Benefits of Coconut Oil for Hair Health
1. Coconut Oil Moisturizes Hair:
Coconut oil is an excellent natural moisturizer for the hair. It can penetrate the hair shaft, reducing protein loss and keeping the hair strands well-hydrated. Dry, brittle hair is more prone to breakage, and keeping it moisturized can help maintain its length.
2. Coconut Oil Strengthens Hair:
The fatty acids in coconut oil, particularly lauric acid, can help strengthen hair and reduce hair breakage. Stronger, healthier hair is less likely to break and may appear to grow faster.
3. Coconut Oil Helps for a Healthy Scalp:
A healthy scalp is essential for hair growth. Coconut oil may have mild antibacterial and antifungal properties, which can help maintain a clean and healthy scalp, promoting optimal conditions for hair growth.
4. Coconut Oil Reduces Damage:
Applying coconut oil to your hair before washing can help reduce damage caused by the mechanical stress of combing or brushing. It can also act as a protective barrier against environmental damage.
5. Coconut Oil Improves Hair Texture:
Regular use of coconut oil may result in improved hair texture, making your hair look healthier and thicker.

Primer on writing Ed's hair care!
I love writing about Ed's hair! He has lots of beautiful hair, and it's obviously very well taken-care-of. I love reading fics that include Ed's hair care routines, too, but I know that a lot of white authors might not be confident about writing a man of color caring for his hair.
So, I wanted to put out a quick cheat sheet to help! This isn't an in-depth guide, but I hope it's a good primer so you can confidently include scenes touching on Ed's hair care. I really recommend checking out some natural hair subreddits if you want to go more in-depth so you can get ideas for the everyday frustrations and styles Ed might have.
Common misconceptions:
Ed will not need to wash his hair as often as you might assume he should. Natural hair textures tend to get very dry and brittle when washed too frequently because over-washing removes protective oils from our scalp and hair and dries it out. Ed probably only needs to wash his hair a couple times a week at most (he'll have figured out what works for him and his hair). This doesn't mean he's dirty or unclean, and it doesn't mean he won't shower or clean himself - he'll just probably put his hair up in a shower cap to keep it dry when he showers on days that aren't wash days.
Ed's hair care will look different than Stede's, and if he wants to let Stede help him care for his hair, he'll probably need to teach him how. Ed might have different brushes for detangling and styling his hair, and they'll definitely look different from Stede's. He also won't be able to use the same products as Stede does, or he might damage or over-dry his hair because many hair products meant for white/straight hair will over-strip the oils from natural hair.
A few things to avoid: Ed's hair is always depicted in the show as clean, well-styled, and perfectly presentable. It is not wild, untamed, or unmanageable just because it's got some texture.
Everyday care!
On the daily, Ed will probably rely on a few products to help him keep his hair looking beautiful. Coconut/castor oil is a go-to for locking in moisture (he can also use moisturizing creams or sprays in a modern AU), twisting creams and butters will help him style his hair into twists and braids, detangling sprays and/or creams help with bad hair days, and a curl-defining spray will help him get his hair looking great in the mornings.
On wash days, Ed will want to use a hydrating shampoo and a nourishing conditioner. Between wash days, leave-in conditioners will help him keep his hair moisturized and control frizz (leave-in conditioners don't get rinsed out, and he'll typically apply them after lightly wetting his hair).
Ed will likely want to put his hair into a protective style before bed so it doesn't get tangled and frizzy during the night. Putting his hair up in a sleep bonnet can help protect his hair while he sleeps, but as a fellow guy with longer hair, I can guess he won't like how he'll wake up with a bunch of his hair looking and feeling flat from sleeping on it. Putting his hair up in braids or twists are great ways to protect it while he sleeps so he wakes up with defined, happy hair! Pro-tip: he probably knows that wetting his hair before putting it into protective styles will help define his curls.
Around the water!
In canon settings or in AUs where Ed lives on or visits the beach, hair care is especially important! Salt air and swimming in the ocean can be very hard on natural hair, and Ed will want to be diligent about moisturizing to help control frizz and keep his hair from drying out.
Before swimming, if he can, there are a few things Ed can do to keep his hair happy. Natural hair really absorbs water, so wetting it before a swim can limit the amount of saltwater (or, in a pool, chlorine) his hair is able to soak up. It's also a good idea to put his hair in a protective style like braids before swimming.
After being in the water, again, Ed will want to wet his hair! After a swim in salt water, rinsing his hair with cool fresh water will keep his hair much happier.
If he's going to be swimming a lot, Ed will want to be very intentional with keeping his hair moisturized! Leave-in conditioners will be his best friend.
Why does this matter?
For people of color, our hair really matters. Our hair is an important way we express ourselves and feel connected to our culture. And controlling natural hair is one way that colonized societies continue to oppress and marginalize people of color. We're often policed and exoticized for our hair - like how the rich assholes on the party boat in s1e5 tried to touch Ed's beard without his permission. Taking care with how we depict Ed's hair isn't just fun and interesting, it helps make this fandom a more welcoming, inclusive space for fans of color.
#ofmd#our flag means death#and i'd love to hear any additions from other poc as well if you got em! i'm just one black guy#and i enlisted like all my friends to help me come to a consensus here lol

Ways to use magickal oils: for witches and non-witches
In your beauty routine:
Depending on the carrier oil, spell oils can be a great addition to skin care and hair care! Some carrier oils provide a lot of skin and hair benefits.
Castor oil contains triglycerides, which help maintain moisture in the skin. This can help with dry skin. Castor oil can also be applied generously as a hair mask and wash off, or apply very liberally to the ends of hair to help with frizz. This is depending on hair type.
Grapeseed oil is an effective treatment to decrease split ends. On the skin, grapeseed oil can help with breakouts, treat dry skin, and gently fade some scars. It’s also non-comedogenic meaning it won’t clog pores. This could be a good option for someone with oily skin.
Sweet almond oil has a lot of vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, and antioxidants that can sooth both the skin and hair. It can help approve the appearance of dry and irritated skin.
Jojoba oil is anti-inflammatory and can reduce redness, help with chaffing, and keep skin calm. For hair, it can strengthen hair strands and reduce hair porosity buildup. It is both antifungal and antibacterial.
Sunflower seed oil can make hair shiny and strong. It can help tame frizz as well as treat dandruff. When used on the skin, it can help skin retain moisture.
*Always be wary of your skin sensitivities and allergies when buying or making your own oil blends.
Ways to use them in your beauty routine:
Add a few drops to your bath for aromatherapy.
Mix a few drops into your liquid soap (great for cleansing and/or protection!)
Mix a few drops in your palm with your favorite lotion. Rub it into your skin while saying affirmations.
Deposit a few drops through your hair while damp.
Dab it on your pressure points to use as perfume.
If you make soap, add a few drops into your soap for a magickal boost.
In your cooking:
Some carrier oils can be great to cook with! *Make sure not to add essential oils to these blends and use food safe herbs. You’re responsible for your own allergens.
Olive oil is already a pantry staple for many people. Try making an oil blend steeping your favorite kitchen herbs and spices in olive oil to use in your cooking.
Avocado oil is another great oil you can do this with if you prefer.
Coconut oil is solid at room temperature, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use it as an oil blend. Heat up the amount you want in a pot and add your herbs. Keep the heat low to infuse your herbs then place into a jar to solidify.
In magick:
Oils are super versatile and they’re a staple for many witches. The most common way they’re used is to anoint candles for spells and rituals. This can even go as far as anointing deity candles as an offering.
They can also be used to anoint objects. By taking a small amount of oil and rubbing it onto an object, you can add energy and charm it with your intention. This works for talismans as well.
You can also anoint yourself! Certain points on the body can be anointed depending on your intention. Anoint your throat with a confidence oil before giving a presentation to aid in communication; anoint your forehead with a psychic oil to aid in divination; anoint your pressure points with a love oil to draw someone in.
The possibilities are endless.

Do you have any tips on how to not lose hair? I’ve been watching my weight and eating less than 1000 cals for three weeks and have already lost a ton of hair. Is there anything I can do to minimize it?
hey! here are some tips
protein intake, even though you're eating fewer calories, you can also increase your protein intake by making sure that the food you're eating (that are low in calories) have enough protein. if you can't eat more food, you can take supplements like whey, or plant based protein powder
managing stress, stress can be the cause of hair loss, so focus on stress management techniques like yoga, meditation, and breathing excersises.
hydration, make sure to keep yourself hydrated. drink plenty of water to keep your body and scalp hydrated
hair care routine, use gentle, nourishing hair care products. avoid over-washining, excessive heat styling, and harsh chemical treatments. have scalp massages with oils like coconut or castor oil to improve circulation and promote hair growth
nutrient-dense foods, even with a low calorie intake, you should prioritise foods that are packed w/ essential nutrients. foods like leafy greens, berries, lean proteins, nuts, and seeds can provide you with nutrients without adding too many calories

My current perfume layering routine:
(I'm going for light and sweet roses and vanilla for the summer, but with a slight exotic twist)
Wash with sandalwood soap (I leave it sit for a few minutes because sandalwood is good for your skin)
Wash again with Imperial Leather Rose Milk and Mallow shower gel
Massage Palmer's Cocoa Butter Oil into my body while it's still damp (it smells like soft vanilla)
Moisturise with Nivea Rose and Argan lotion
Apply rose oil on my pulse points
Then spray perfume on top of the rose oil. My current favourite is Fatima Pink by Zimaya, which is a really really close dupe of PDM Delina and lasts for ages (if you like Delina but don't want to pay €260 and don't mind using a dupe I'd def recommend this for €40, it's the same scent and longevity in a different bottle). It smells like sweet, light roses, a bit fruity, and to my nose it smells kinda like Turkish Delight.
I'm also:
Using Jurlique rose hand cream every time I wash my hands
Washing my hair a couple times a week with As I Am coconut cowash, shampoo, and leave in conditioner (they smell like coconut and Shea butter)
Oiling the ends of my hair daily with L'Oréal Elvive Extraordinary Oil (love the smell of this, and it also just glides on and softens the hair without looking greasy)
I also have been using honey peel masks, honey and almond sheet masks, oil pulling with coconut oil, applying Glossier birthday balm throughout the day and Klavuu rose lip treatment morning and night, massaging my scalp and hair with a mix of hot argan oil, black castor oil and jasmine oil once a week, and massaging argan oil into my face, lashes and brows at the end of my skincare routine (but nobody will be able to pick up on these scents except for me unless they're way too close lol)
Roses are in bloom at this time of year, and are classically feminine and elegant. Vanilla is also feminine and adds warmth and sweetness. Sandalwood is woody, exotic, and calming, while coconut is tropical, sweet and nutty, perfect for summer. Which is the vibe I want to evoke this summer - feminine, sweet, and summery, with some exotic allure.

GROWING OUT + STYLING YOUR LASHES
Minimise the use of mascara + if you do use it anyway, ensure that most of the residue is washed off with micellar water before you go to sleep
Avoid lash adhesives, falsies, eyelash curlers etc for the time being.
Using a clean spoolie, brush through your lashes everyday, this helps stimulate them which promotes growth.
Apply oil to your lashes daily- coconut, castor, olive etc etc. use a cotton swab for a clean application.
Consider taking biotin, collagen, or vitamin E as supplements for lash growth (consult with your doctor first!)
Avoid touching/rubbing your eyes, as this can pull out some of your lashes.
Use tweezers carefully to style your lashes each morning
To naturally curl your lashes, I just use a small spoolie and warm Vaseline, and leave it for around 1-2 minutes.
Apply some Vaseline there and there because it helps with locking in moisture but don’t apply anything to the roots as it will block the hair follicles for growth
GROWING OUT + STYLING YOUR EYEBROWS
Same things here- wash your face and ensure no make up residue is in your eyebrows + apply oils daily.
Avoid plucking your eyebrows for 12~ weeks. This gives them time to properly grow and actually highlight stray hairs.
Try to wear sunglasses that cover your eyebrows, as excessive UV exposure to your eyebrows can harm the proteins there, which cause them to be brittle and thinner.
Once again apply small amounts of Vaseline but the former still applies.
Exfoliate your eyebrows around 3x a week as it stimulates the follicles which promotes growth
Use eyebrow gel for them to stay put throughout the day, but a good quality one as some can leave white residue.
Fill them in if they’re sparse, but still be diligent. Overfilled eyebrows<<<
Know if an arch, soft arch, or straight eyebrows suit you the best, dear peachie has a good video on this.

I saw your requests are open. Can I please request Soobin and a black fem(she/her) reader? Maybe them just being cute and him introducing her to Odi?
soobin x gender neutral! black! reader
↝ wc: 589
note: super late!!! hope u enjoy anyway!!
content: black reader obv, blonde soobin my fave, neck kisses, odi <3
♡
- dating soobin is literally just fluff - all the time!!!! - whenever your together he always has to have his hands on you - arm over you shoulder, - around your waist, - a hand on your knee or thigh, - WHATEVER!!! he just wants to touch you, ok? :( - he often stares at you and just admires your hair - he has so many questions bro. - how do you get your curls looking like that? - why don't you wash your hair as often as he does? - how do you get your braids/cornrows/locs to stay and not unravel? - he's so curious but he's scared of offending you so he doesn't ask for a while - not until late one night, on a washday that you started a liiittle too late - he decides to just ask, deciding that if he does offend you at least he knows not to ask anymore
the blonde boy walks into the bathroom, stopping midway into the door to observe you combing your hair. "y/n?" you glance at him, "yes, babe?" you respond, not stopping your ministrations on your last section of hair. "what are you putting on your hair?" you stop applying the conditioner and smile at him. your ex didn't really care about your natural hair business, so this was a shock.. as well as a nice change of pace. "it's leave in conditioner. why?" "nothing. im just curious." he watches as you comb it through, twisting it then wrapping it around itself into a little ball on your head. he's so fascinated he doesn't realize he's been watching for ten minutes, till you finish up.
- that moment opened up a gateway for him LMFAO - all of a sudden he's randomly asking you things like "what's your hair type? 3 or 4? and what letter?" "do you use coconut oil or castor oil? both?" "is the inside of your nightcap silk?" - now where tf did he get the info to even conjure up these questions?? - and then you catch him watching braiding tutorials 💀 - yeah, checks out. - no but it makes you feel so giddy that he's so interested!!!!! - he's not really a big fan of pda, - but he doesn't mind hand holding and hugs (which still make him super shy..) - he also introduced you to odi :( <3 - AND HE ONLY DOES THAT WITH PEOPLE HE TRUSTS
he placed his hand on the cage lock, opening the door and scooping the small hedgehog into his hands. “here,” he says, “open your hands.”
you cup your palms, following soobin’s example. you watch as he gently places odi into your hands, the little hedgehog turning around to stare at you with beady eyes- it's at that moment your heart melted.
as you looked at the little creature in your hands, adoration shining brightly in your eyes as you gently petted him. the same could be said for soobin; he looked at you as if you were the one who'd gotten him odi in the first place.
- he thinks you're the cutest, most precious thing in the world! - whenever he wakes up in the mornings and looks at you, - scarf wrapped around your head/nightcap on/curls out, whichever it is, his reaction is always the same - cuddling even closer to you and burying his face in your neck - if he's feeling bold.. little kisses too - yea, he's so in love with you 😭
#txt x black reader#txt x y/n#txt x you#txt x reader#choi soobin x reader#Choi soobin x black reader#choi soobin x you#choi soobin x y/n#soobin x reader#kikisficz#made this before odi left ☹️

nurturing my natural self (part 4)
Disclaimer: I made this, like all my other posts, for myself, but if you are reading this, I'm not a doctor, and this is basic researched knowledge. If you realize that you need help, please seek a doctor!
Allowing Your Hair to Recover
Nurturing your hair is just as important. This allows your natural hair to breathe and thrive. While protective styles like braids, wigs, and weaves can be great, they can also harm your hair if you don't give it a break. It's crucial to find a routine and products that work for your hair type and porosity.
I want to grow my hair out so I can wear it more often, but I’ve struggled to find styles that suit my current length after chopping off my dead ends. Cutting those damaged ends felt like a weight lifted off my chest! I’m investing in my hair care and currently have a protective style in, but I’ll switch back to my natural hair once it’s out.
I’ve found more styling ideas on TikTok, which helps since it can be tough to find looks for my length. My hair is a bit longer than the TWA (teeny weeny afro) stage and is growing well. The health of my hair is very important, and I plan to continue adding to my routine.
- Nutrients: Protein: Essential for hair structure (lean meats, fish, eggs, legumes). Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Support scalp health (fatty fish, walnuts, flaxseeds). Vitamin A: Promotes sebum production for a healthy scalp (carrots, sweet potatoes). Vitamin C: Supports collagen production and iron absorption (citrus fruits, berries). Biotin: A B-vitamin crucial for hair growth (eggs, nuts, avocados). Vitamin E: Improves blood circulation to the scalp (nuts, seeds, leafy greens).
- Hydration: Drink plenty of water to keep your hair and scalp hydrated.
- Scalp care: Cleansing, exfoliation & massage: using a gentle shampoo, keep your scalp clean to prevent build-up, which can hinder growth. occasionally exfoliate your scalp to remove dead skin cells and promote circulation (started using aztec clay, 10/10 so far, loving it). massage your scalp to stimulate blood flow and promote hair growth.
- Moisturizing Oils: jojoba, argan, grapeseed & avocado oil. These help hydrate hair by adding moisture and nutrients. Apply these oils to damp hair to hydrate it, either as part of a deep conditioning treatment or after washing.
- Moisture-Sealing Oils: castor oil, coconut oil, olive oil, avocado (serves as both) & shea butter. These create a barrier to lock in moisture and prevent dehydration. Use these after applying a moisturizing oil or treatment to lock in the hydration, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends of the hair. I don't use these much if at all unless I'm focusing on the ends of my hair because of my scalp condition.
- Heat Management: If you’re using heat, always protect your hair. Heat protectants are a must to prevent damage from styling tools. Try to minimize heat use overall or stick to low-heat settings.
- Detangling: a major part of healthy hair care. Always use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers (if using both, then use your fingers first), and make sure your hair is wet with conditioner to prevent breakage.
- Seasonal Hair Care: your hair’s needs can change with the seasons. In the winter, it might need more moisture, while summer humidity might require lighter products.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Choose sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners to avoid stripping natural oils. reduce or avoid harsh chemical treatments (e.g., relaxers, dyes) that can weaken hair.
- Protective styling: using low-manipulation styles to protect your ends (braids, twists) can help prevent breakage. styles that are too tight can lead to traction alopecia.
- Hair care ingredients: it's important to find what works for you. what works for kayla may not work for kiara, yk? for example, i've read and heard about others who benefitted from Coconut oil, shea butter, castor oil, jojoba oil, rosemary oil, and mint oil are examples of hair care ingredients known for their nourishing, moisturizing, and growth-stimulating properties. While not all of these oils are beneficial for managing my seborrheic dermatitis, certain ones, like jojoba oil and rosemary oil, have been especially helpful in controlling flare-ups.
- Routine: Find a fitting routine for your type and porosity. A general one is: shampoo + condition + rinse + leave in + style OR shampoo + deep condition + rinse + leave in + style . People include pre-poo (pre-shampoo) to detangle, some people even condition their hair before deep conditioning. this can actually cause your deep conditioner to be less effective. my current routine to which pre-pooing will be added: detangle with water + shampoo/aztec clay mask w acv + deep condition + rinse + leave-in conditioner + blow-dry on low heat. this is to prep my hair for like braids or something but if i was doing a wash n go, i wouldn't bow dry, i'd style with either a curl custard and gel or a hair butter (to lock int he moisture) + gel since i already used leave-in.
- Trims, Patience, and Stress Management: Regular trims are necessary to keep split ends at bay. Managing stress and getting enough sleep can make a huge difference in your hair’s health. And remember, patience is key—healthy hair growth takes time!
Some ingredients to beware of:
- Sulfates (e.g. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate): Strips natural oils, causing dryness.
- Parabens (e.g. Methylparaben): Preservatives that may disrupt hormones.
- Silicones (e.g. Dimethicone): Can build up on hair, leading to dullness.
- Alcohols (e.g. Isopropyl alcohol): Drying effects on hair.
- Formaldehyde (e.g. DMDM Hydantoin): Can cause irritation and allergic reactions.
- Artificial Fragrances: Can irritate sensitive skin and cause allergic reactions.
- Harsh Detanglers (e.g., Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Cetrimonium Chloride): Can strip moisture and cause buildup.
Hair Care Essentials
- clarifying shampoo (deeply cleanses to remove buildup, excess oil, and impurities. Ideal for occasional use to refresh hair but can strip natural oils with frequent use.)
- hydrating shampoo (gentle cleansers that don’t strip natural oils; look for hydrating formulas.)
- co-wash (cleansing conditioner that helps remove dirt while maintaining moisture, suitable for regular use. i.e. when you wanna wash your hair but it's too soon use shampoo bc you don't wanna dry it out)
- conditioner (moisturize and detangle hair after shampooing.)
- blow dryer (better than air drying, esp useful for when you're doing styles that require dry hair)
- spray bottle (refresh, dampen, moisturize)
- plastic cap (to hold your hair when you put hair masks on)
- leave in conditioner (retain moisture and detangle hair.)
- deep conditioner/hair mask (Used weekly or bi-weekly to provide intense moisture and repair. choose one best suited to your hai-- what your hair needs the most in the moment)
- hydrating creams & oils (shea butter, coconut oil, or argan oil to nourish and moisturize.)
- natural oils: coconut oil, olive oil, jojoba oil, or castor oil can help seal in moisture, add shine, and promote hair growth.
- essential oils: tea tree oil, lavender oil, and peppermint oil can help with scalp health and stimulation.
- curl creams or gels: defining curls, providing hold, and reducing frizz.
- edge control & brush sleek edges and maintaining hairstyles.
- hair mousse: volume and lightweight hold.
- wide-tooth comb: for detangling without causing breakage & combing out.
- detangling brush: for detangling (denman, unbrush etc)
- fine-tooth comb: sectioning and parting hair
- satin or silk scarves/bonnets/pillowcases: protect hair from friction while sleeping, reducing frizz and breakage.
- hair clips and bands: sectioning hair during styling and care routines.
- heat protectant spray or cream: if you use heat styling tools (like flat irons or blow dryers) to protect your hair from damage.
- trimming tools: scissors handy for regular trims to remove split ends and encourage healthy growth.
- scalp massager: promote blood circulation and stimulate hair growth.
- scalp Treatments: tea tree oil for dandruff or other scalp concerns.

Foolproof Hair Care tips & routine :
I wish I knew 10 years ago... Seriously..
As a child I always had silky, smooth hair.. And I believed that it'll stay that way forever. Little did I know.. I got into an all girls hostel in 10th grade & got dandruff & certain vitamin deficiencies. That made my hair look & feel unhealthy ever since.
Hot water :
Is a big no no..
Your hair will lose its natural shine in the long run.
Thinning will be a problem in your mid 30s.
Stick to lukewarm water from root to tip.
Take your damn vitamins :
Get your blood checked & see if you have any vitamin / mineral deficiencies.
Take your vitamins & once you get that problem sorted. Switch to a healthier diet that contains all those vitamins.
Besides vitamins.. eating curry leaves on an empty stomach is also good for someone who is suffering with hair fall.
Identify your problem :
If you have dandruff or hair fall..or literally anything.
Your scalp type - Oily / dry / normal
Your hair type - silky / delicate / dry
Your hair type and scalp type are not always the same.
In case of oily scalp - I strongly suggest that you don't oil your hair. Because if you do.. your problem might never resolve. (I know it because that's what I have..) but you can use a hair mask after shampooing your hair to make sure that your scalp is feeling nourished.
In case of dry scalp - Use any oil of your choice. Especially massage your scalp when you are applying the oil.
In case of dry hair - use conditioner after shampooing your hair.
In case of delicate hair - masking is a must.
Two Shampoos :
One shampoo to treat your problem (hair fall / dandruff / really any problem) & the other to act as a cleanser (parabens and sulphate free).
Problem shampoo alone - Mon, Fri
Cleanser shampoo alone - Wed, Sun
Oil :
Oiling is a big no no if you have a sebaceous / oily scalp.
Oiling is good for a dry scalp.
Tea tree oil for dandruff
Onion / castor oil for hair fall
Cold pressed coconut oil for strengthening hair
Masking / Conditioning :
Masking is helpful in nourishing your hair and scalp.
While conditioning is good for bringing back your hair's natural shine / lustre.
Please don't take them for granted.
Comb & Exfoliators :
If you are someone with a dandruff problem.. please comb your hair regularly. It will clean your scalp..
And if you have a hair fall problem.. combing with a narrow teethed comb will stimulate blood flow.
Using a scalp exfoliating comb while bathing will help you get rid of dirt / dandruff efficiently..
Clean your combs :
Wash your combs by soaking them in vinegar + warm water or baking soda + warm water.
And do not forget to wash your pillow covers after a shampoo bath. Especially if you have a dandruff problem.
Other no brainer shit :
If you are using an anti-dandruff / hair fall shampoo.. please let the shampoo sit on your scalp for atleast 20 mins before you wash it all off.
Be gentle with your hair & scalp. Don't dig your nails into your scalp or don't be harsh with your hair. Just gently massage your scalp & hair while shampooing them.
Please wash your scalp thoroughly. I can't stress this enough.. most problems are caused by the shampoo residue that is left behind..
Proper Routine :
Problem shampoo + Masking - Mon, Fri
Cleanser shampoo + Conditioning - Wed, Sun

nanami kento with a curly haired s/o!
a/n: my hair is 3a+b so this is mainly based off my experience with washing and styling! im going to make it as vague as possible to try and include other curl types and the process but i might get some stuff wrong im so sorry, i got taken away with this….
nanami kento x gn!reader
cw: hopefully none
seeing as most people in japan dont have curly hair, it would be something that did cause him to pay attention before you started dating
part of him wanted to ask to touch it, but he knew better once he heard you rant about some woman coming up to you and touching it without asking
before you spent the night together he *really* had no idea how high maintenance it is
the first night you spend the night he’s confused but curious about your bonnet, you tell him your favorites - if it has elastic bands, ties or is scrunched
(the next time you come over he has a few of your favorite ones under the sink, just in case)
you talk about satin bedsheets, how you want silk ones but they’re too expensive and when you come by to spend the night next time your side of the bed has a silk pillow case
he listens to you about all your different products, taking note of what you like about each one and what they do, if they make your hair too stiff, too heavy for your hair, doesn’t add enough moisture
he looks at all your oils, what they do and which ones, your hair grease, castor oil, etc.
you teach him about your homemade hair masks, keeping the house stalked with olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, jojoba, tea tree, whatever you use
the first few times you style it around him hes watching like a hawk, taking note of each step from exfoliating your scalp, parting your curls in half, parting it again and lathering it until your hands are way too foamy and dripping all over the tub, then he watches you detangle your hair with your fingers while you condition.
you tell him about how you used to sit with your mother and she’d do your hair, how most of the time it was a pain in the ass- having a tender head and her yanking your hair apart then threatening to hit you with the brush sometimes she did but but ultimately looking back now that you didn’t have it, you missed it. there’s a deep seated warmth that comes from the memories thats almost spiritual
after kento hears about that he starts doing his own research on how to help better
the next time you get to wash day around him he asks to help, and you’re hesitant but ultimately come around
he props your knees on a towel comfortable, rolls up his sweatpants and sits on the ledge one foot in the tub the other out
hes gentle with your hair, finally fully touching it and almost melts at the touch. your curls twist around his fingers and its hypnotizing, hes obsessed!
he parts your hair mimicking your movements he watched down to the muscle twitch
the massage he gives you while he washes your hair makes you feel like you’re in a salon
he rinses your hair out with gentle scrunches instead of your aggressive twisting and then scrunching
you almost stop him from detangling your hair but he’s so careful, if you get the slightest painful tug he’s rapid fire with apologizes and a massage
you walk him through each product and how much to put, he scrunches your hair and then carefully helps you flip your hair
then it comes to the twisting and suddenly you’re grateful he’s here because now your hair is split in half and he’s twisting one side and you’re doing the other
“you’d make a good stylist,” you had joked to which he responded “only for you.”
this becomes routine most times, there are other times where you just need to relax yourself, and he respects that
you’ll sometimes let him pull the curl very gently, if he wants to touch it, because he knows how much time it takes and his body will never be found if he tries to do more than that
everytime you get to wash day he’s secretly hoping you’ll let it go natural because anytime you do that means you don’t have plans of going out for the weekend and that he has free reign to play and touch with your hair
it feels nice so you let him
he massages your scalp, stares at the way your hair lengthens so much and then bounces back against your scalp
he loves how soft it is, how it’s like his own cloud, how you stand out from the crowd and it’s like ivy sprawling out, spring tree’s shining in the sun and how it makes you look so much more ethereal
he loves to massage oil in or grease your scalp, how you tilt your head back into his touch and the serene relaxation on your face
when you whine and complain about your bonnet falling off and say something along the lines of “i go to sleep with it on and wake up with it checking out at the store without me” he snorts so hard he splashes coffee all over himself
when you’re sleeping and he notices your bonnet slipping off, he’ll put it back on
when you straighten your hair, he doesn’t hate it per-say, but you do definitely notice that he seems less touchy with your hair even though you tell him its free game
once its back his eyes linger on your hair more, and it makes you feel fuzzy inside that he’s so enamored with your natural hair, especially since growing up it had been too much for other people, always in the way, always too much or a commodity for others to stare at and disrespect, but he just sees it as an extension of you and is enamored with it
if you get any protective styles like braids, locks, twists, cornrows, its like a kid in a christmas store. he’s staring any chance he gets (but his favorite will always be your natural) because he’s just so mesmerized and enthused about the different styles you do
when it’s time to take your braids out he gets to work, untwisting and cleaning up any strands you take out and end up on the floor
he has to hide his face when you’re humbled by the lack of growth because he knows he shouldn’t be laughing but each time you’re so earnest
i got too carried away
i wish i could just hire someone to wash my hair but at the same time don’t touch it
also my love language is acts of service so this is 100% just my self indulgence
