Hello! With your comeback I had a grand time re-reading all your past imagines :> they're marvelous! Hope you don't mind me requesting - I had an idea of lotr characters with reader that is in adoration, love, and interest with their hair (and also them! but that's just predictable isn't it, how can you not love them). Even if it's dirty, reader would sometimes help take care of it, and her hands would just go to them on their own. Reader would also love to play with them, and marvel at texture, colour, lenght when they're clean. I had a few characters in mind (Eomer, Boromir, Faramir, Aragorn, Arwena, our 4 lovely hobbits) but I do know that's a lot of them. I am also happy with you choosing only few characters of your taste, or deciding on a completely different one! Quite honestly I'm happy about reading whatever you wish to write in this theme. Rangers are not among the fairest creatures of Middle Earth, but you couldn’t care less – you are in love with Aragorn’s hair. When you’ve first voiced the thought, he was irritated, then amused. Now he softens whenever you go on and on about how beautifully his hair frames his face, how gorgeous he looks when it falls into his face as he’s lost in thought, humming some ancient Elven melody to himself. He may have pondered cutting it short before, but the thought is now discarded.

Boromir has never given his hair much thought; it needed to be practical and nothing more. Imagine his surprise when you offer to help him wash it after a long day of work, sweat, and dirt! He has much to learn in terms of hair care. But even if he was a little hesitant in the beginning, he enjoys your joint baths afterwards far too much! And you braiding his hair is just too romantic to miss. I figure Boromir would also be the kind of person to brag about how much you love his hair – perhaps not with the Elves, but all the more so with fellow Humans!

Seeing Éomer at the royal banquet in Edoras has you starstruck: The usually so haggard and modest horse lord wears his hair down in gorgeous dark blond curls, accentuated by golden strands framing the face you have come to love already. Those strands are usually pinned out of his face for practicality during riding and fighting, but now you cannot help but stare – which at first might irritate him. He may not understand your love for his hair right away, but he cannot deny the warmth your compliments spread in his chest and would eventually find it romantic to take care of each other’s hair.

You were enamoured with Faramir’s hair the moment you first saw him. His gorgeous waves make him look even dreamier than his kind eyes already do. When you first reach into his hair during a kiss, you blush and apologise – but Faramir loves the attention you give his waves and urges you to not hold back (in fact, he enjoys having his hair pulled). He would ask you about your opinions on which oils and waters to use in it and is in Seventh Heaven whenever you play with it during cuddles ♡

So, when your hands finally gravitate toward them as you read with Frodo, lost in thought and the legendary stories of your books, all he does is chuckle, letting you play with them until you self-consciously draw away.

You help him wash it and compliment the colour and texture, which he delights him. Perhaps he would serve you a trick by casually telling you he would cut it short today – but you know better: This Hobbit loves both his hair and your fascination with it far too much for that!

Pippin wastes no thought on his hair: It gets stuck in branches, twisted in petty fights, and spilled by beer in the Green Dragon. Since he knows are you are “a hair expert”, he one day arrives at your door with a bunch of thistles stuck in his curls. Not only does he appreciate how well you take care of his hair, he loves how much you like it, too. He would kick his feet anytime you played with his curls and especially loves you ruffling them!

When you tell him how much you like his hair, Sam initially thinks you’re joking. After all, both the hair on his head and on his feet is usually dirty and sweaty from gardening. You love how they fall into his green eyes when he looks at you all sweet ♡

Leo liked to think that he was a good partner.

He was always there to lend a hand when Finn or Logan needed it. He was always available for kind word or a big hug. There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his two.

And this was simple.

Should have been simple.

Their families had decided on various different plans for American Thanksgiving, and the three of them had decided that more than anything they wanted to spend it together. The ink was barely dry on Logan’s contract with the Rangers, and they knew now that for the next four years, this was going to be one of the few times during the season that none of them would have a game and get to see one another. As luck would have it, Logan had played an early home game Wednesday against the Penguins and had driven down to Gryffindor early. By the time Finn and Leo were done with their game against Montreal, he was there.

Leo wanted everything to be perfect. And perfect for Thanksgiving meant a dinner. A good one. The best one.

He’d done Thanksgiving dinner more times than he could count, but he’d always had his mama and her sisters as back up. Wyatt had surprised Eloise with a trip to Bali, so she was half a world away and without a phone. This was the first time he was attempting it all on his own.

Still, it shouldn’t be too complicated. It was just a lot of simple dishes all together at once. How difficult could it really be?

“Are you sure you want to do all this, Soleil?” Logan had asked, taking in all of the various groceries and prep that had taken over their kitchen by the time he got there.

“I already tried to talk him out of it,” Finn said, putting his chin on top of Logan’s head. “He said—”

“It’s a tradition. Besides, I want to do it for you,” Leo said, ignoring Finn.

“Exactly.”

“Is there anything we can—” Logan started again.

“Our instructions are to go to the living room and stay out of his hair,” Finn replied dutifully, nodding.

Logan’s eyebrows pulled together. “But I want to see you, Leo.”

Leo smiled. “You’ll see me plenty afterward. I promise.”

“But it’s, like, ten in the morning. Are you really going to start cooking now?”

Finn snorted. “Lo, he started like three days ago.”

Leo came up to both of them, kissing Finn’s cheek and then Logan’s forehead. “Trust me, it’ll all be worth it.”

That had been six hours ago.

Now, it looked as if a battle had been waged in the kitchen. Leo was usually pretty militant about organization while he was cooking, but that had been before his gravy had broken for the third time and he’d managed to scorch the rice and beans and had to start them over.

He was frantically trying to keep the cheese sauce from splitting and trying to figure out exactly how he was going to fit in three pans of various vegetables into the oven in the last thirty minutes of the turkey cooking.

“Baby, do you need—”

“I’m fine, Fish.”

“…You don’t seem—”

“Fine, Finn.”

“Are you s—”

“Finnegan.”

And then a few minutes later. Leo had his back to the doorway, but he could feel someone lingering there. It had to be Logan. Finn would have already started talking.

“Tremz, not now. I’ll be done soon.”

He couldn’t understand why they didn’t understand he was doing this for them. It had been effort. Lots and lots of effort over days of work. Baking pies and preparing bread, stewing turkey giblets and necks for stock that underpinned the gravy and the stuffing. Planning the menu, the grocery lists, the shopping. Weaving all of that in between practice and games and travel and everything else. It was almost done if they could give him an hour it’d be finished and he could relax.

He didn’t even turn around. He heard a sigh and the shuffling of feet and that was it.

Leo tried to distract himself from the lead weight in his stomach with mashing potatoes and pulling the stuffing from the oven, but it was there anyway.

And then, finally, it was done. The table was set.

Finn and Logan were both silent when they sat down.

“Looks great,” Finn said quietly.

“Ouais, Soleil.”

They made their plates, and Leo was finally ready to sit back and enjoy the fruits of all that labor.

And then tragedy struck.

Well, tragedy had started three days earlier when he’d decided to salt brine the turkey. Salt and baking powder. Salt and single action baking powder.

Finn reached for his napkin, discreetly trying to make a gagging noise without being rude.

It wasn’t the kind of mistake he made. But he did. The turkey looked perfect.

Logan winced, but kept chewing, swallowing determinedly.

As soon as he put it in his mouth, he could tell it wasn’t perfect. It couldn’t have been farther from perfect.  

Single action baking powder. Not double. Double would make it…

Taste like metal. Like baking soda.

Suddenly, Leo was aware of the wreck in the kitchen behind him, the sweat and stains on his T-shirt, the reserved, cowed expressions on their faces.

If it hadn’t already tasted vile, it would have tasted like ash anyway.

He wasn’t aware of the tears before they started to fall.

“Excuse me,” Leo said before leaving the table.

He just made it to the bathroom before the crying really started. What was he doing? He’d spent all day on this, and for what? He turned on the sink and wetted his hands, pressing cool water to his cheeks. He studied his red eyes in the mirror. His hair was frizzy, and he looked tired.

There was a gentle knock at the door before it was pushed open and Logan was there, pulling him into his arms, and the tears started again.

“Shhh, Soleil. It’s okay. It’s okay,” he soothed. It didn’t matter that Leo was six inches taller than him, in an instant, Leo folded himself into his chest and let himself cry.

“I’m sorry. God. I’ve been the worst,” Leo snotted.

“Non. No. Leo, no. It’s alright. You were stressed. We know that. We know you wanted it to be good for us.”

“This was a terrible idea,” Leo said.

“It wasn’t. Shh. It wasn’t. You always try to make everything so good for us. Finn and I know that.”

“And you’re not here that long!? You’re leaving tomorrow and I spent all day snapping and distracted,” Leo continued to rant.

“Peanut, look at me,” Logan pulled back, using the sleeve of his too long sweatshirt to wipe at Leo’s face. Leo was sure he looked a mess.

Logan didn’t seem to care. He offered Leo a small smile.

“You’re okay. It’s okay. We love you, Leo. It’s so good that you want to do things for us, Peanut, but it’s all okay. I promise.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah,” Logan said, nodding his head like that was all there was to it.

Maybe it was.

“Okay, folks. Good news. There’s Thanksgiving pizza arriving in t-minus seven minutes,” Finn said coming in the doorway. “Everything else is delicious and who even likes turkey anyway? Worst poultry in my opinion,” Finn sniffed. 

Leo couldn’t do anything but pull him into their hug.

Afterward, after Finn and Logan tackled the kitchen and Leo was showered and snuggled into Finn’s oldest Harvard crewneck, Leo thought that it had been perfect anyway. Perfect as they’d laughed watching Finn try to combine cheese pizza and cranberry sauce, perfect as Logan balled up pieces of rolls and put them in the hood of Finn’s sweatshirt for him to find later.

Now they were all crammed on the couch. It was big enough for all of them, but each of them preferred to gather at one end and invade one another’s space. Leo’s head on Finn’s shoulder, breathing in Logan’s cologne as they watched A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.

And Leo was so grateful for them.

“Thank you,” he said quietly into Logan’s hair.

Logan didn’t say anything, just reached up to kiss temple.

Leo figured it maybe wasn’t what he’d expected, but maybe that was exactly what made it better.

Friendly reminder, I'm not a native speaker, there is also no subtitles. I'm trying my best, but I can't hear everything and probably made mistakes. Please keep in mind, I wrote it just for reference.

At the very beginning of the scene, the school bell rings, signaling the end of classes. Afterwards, the boy runs to his father and says that he got 100 points for the test, his father promised to buy him a ranger toy for this - his father says they will now go and buy it. After, the girl calls her mother and tells about how well she drew a picture during class with their family, and the teacher noted that it was drawn very well. Mom praises her. QL: Every time after school, he (Cheng Xiaoshi) saw other children being picked up by their parents, and how they returned home together. And he just stood aside and looked at them all alone, feeling envious and lonely. In order to make himself like a normal kid and to blend in with others, he tried his best, but...

Flashback

Kids playing together. Kid 1：Look at this! Kid 2：Take it! CXS：What are you playing? Can I join you? Kid：Em…

Woman：Why are you still here? Go home, go. You don’t know this kid, so why are you hanging out with strangers? Let’s go. Grandma：Nannan (girl’s name), listen to grandma, it’s time to leave. Go home. QL: The neighbors who used to spend time together with him and the friends he played with left him one by one. He was eventually isolated, but I know how afraid of losing everyone he was.

(Here they placed a flashback that corresponded to the moment with the earthquake when CXS ran to QL’s house) QL: That was the first time, when he, who had always been stubborn, was so frightened that couldn’t put words together. Then I realized how painful it must be for him to say, "I don't want you to care about me." At that time, Qiao Ling understood - these people who came to the photo studio as soon as they heard the news about Cheng Xiaoshi's parents', just wanted to satisfy their curiosity. Their perfunctory concern may be able to hide it from others, but it couldn’t fool Cheng Xiaoshi since he was involved. Children have the purest, the sharpest eyes.  These people themselves had no idea how their sarcastic words could hurt a child's heart. In the following days, Cheng Xiaoshi stopped trying to cater to others and just spent time alone in the photo studio. Sitting alone at the door of the photo studio, watching people coming and going, the liveliness was about other people, had nothing to do with him. Day by day, year by year, the photo studio was becoming more and more dilapidated. Cheng Xiaoshi also grew up gradually, but his life seemed to always have two points and one thread: from the photo studio to the school, and then from the school to the photo studio. He only had one friend, Qiao Ling, by his side.

QL： Before, I was worried whether Cheng Xiaoshi would be able to make friends who truly cared about him… Until that day. That day.

IM FINALLY GETTING AROUND TO THAT CAINE POST WITH HIS RELATIONSHIPS TO THE RANGERS LETS GO

Caine & Ortega:

Ortega is caines best friend of years, even after the farm. In fact, caines had a crush on him since their sidestep days, but only realized it in retri lol. He finds his static soothing, its a reprieve from the constant chatter around them, even if it comes with the cost of not being able to read his mind. The problem is that caine is really good at following orders, and during his sidestep days, when they first got all their freedom, he kind of subconciously latched on to ortega as the nearest authority figure because they likened his static to the numbers used at the farm. Even post second escape, they still regard him as an authority(though hes starting to chafe against ortegas influence a little bit more). Part of the reason caine is a no-kill saving step is because, even if they dont realize it, theyre doing what ortega told them to do. if ortega had asked him to kill somebody, hed do it 100%. and if that somebody just so happened to be a near-mythical kingpin ruling over los diablos, well... let's just say theres more than one reason caine agreed to HGs deal unthreaded

Caine & Chen:

Oh, caine has a thing for the marshal and they are throwing a fit about it. This was NOT supposed to happen. Chen was supposed to be the vaguely-tolerable side effect to getting spoon. But then he found out that chens well-shielded mind is actually really nice for the same reasons ortegas mind is, and that he could relate to the feeling of being forced into a role he doesnt want to play. Back in the day, caine was always frustrated that chen didnt trust what he brought to the team, but now that theyre "retired", it doesnt matter and they can relax together as individuals. It was a surprisingly nice development. The two are more similar than they think– nowadays, the main conflict between the two is caine being lycan, because chen is absolutely aware of that fact and caine is just about clear-headed enough to note that thats probably a bad thing. Caine and chen are both very (for lack of better term) career focused, and even if caine doesnt like being villainous, theyre willing to do whatevers needed for the job(over 80% drive babyyy). So yeah, those two are going to butt heads when That conversation finally comes up

Caine & Herald:

Caine is WORKING that 66% strength of mind whenever herald is around. They find him intense, overly curious, and far too forgetful of boundaries, all of which they Do Not appreciate. But he still cant help liking the kid. Hes legitimately proud of how far heralds come along, and hes interested in his potential as a threat since hes shown how perceptive he can be. Currently, theyre trying to round out heralds skills as part of the team, as well as pushing him to analyze and use what he notices against an opponent. Plus, training herald has been more of a lifeline than theyd like to admit(i wrote something about it, but idk if ill post it rip). Its a schedule, hes a good coach, and he just likes fighting for fun lmfao. The whole thing would be great if herald could get some shields for the love of god

Caine & Argent:

Fun fact, caine used to have a small crush on argent between rebirth and retribution. It was a mix of admiration for her skills, the constant attention and the fact that argent is just pretty lol. It faded quick (quickly enough that he panicked in the bridge fight when he realized she was flirting with him lmfao), but they continued to hold a healthy amount of respect for her afterwards, even if they didnt approve of her teamwork. And then the casino happened! Caine had gone through the whole casino infiltration entirely untouched, but when they noticed the fight between argent and shroud, they couldnt help but give into curiosity and see what was happening. That was. a bad decision. He watched shroud attempt and fail to devour argent, and they ended up getting a panic attack and fleeing. He is now scared as shit of her :D! He avoids her like the plague, and whenever hes given an opportunity to escape a room with her in it, hes taking it. They dont know what she is, and they have a bad feeling about finding out

I’m Tori, a 20 year old autistic girl (pronouns she/her) who would prefer a ship with a man. Also, I tend to prefer the humans in middle earth (so like Aragorn, Faramir, Boromir and Eomer) so if you could kindly ship me with one of them specifically I’d be very grateful.

I’m really short, only like 4’ 10” (142 cm) with wild, long and wavy auburn hair and really light blue eyes. I’m slender but very toned, and I also wear glasses. I'm pretty neutral about both my appearance and myself in general and I don't think I genuinely hate anything about myself. I'm generally neutral about most things actually. I have chronic joint pain all over, scoliosis and some other illnesses but I stay very active regardless. I’m really polite and try my hardest to be nice to everyone, but if you cross me or give me a bad vibe I can be a little cold and aloof. I’m a tad awkward, but I’ve been told I can be charming and I’m really good at making others laugh with witty comments. I tell amazing stories because I've had a lot of experience with different things during my life. I’m very generous and don’t mind helping others or doing nice things for them. I’m also extremely energetic and always have to be doing something, to the point where I’m honestly not sure I really know how to rest. My friends say I give really good advice and am very wise, and also that I have warm, inviting energy. I could lowkey befriend anyone if I really tried. Though I'm also very sensitive and don't enjoy being teased too much, so I don't tease people much either. I hate seeing people, or really anything, upset.

Where I really shine is with my large number of hobbies and interests. Because I always like to keep busy, I have a lot of different activities and side gigs to keep me occupied. In Middle Earth, I’d probably be some sort of ranger who picks up a bunch of odd jobs here and there. I currently work as a librarian but my other hobbies include:

VAL'S BG3 VERSE CHEATSHEET.

as a tl;dr; i will be keeping Val's DA verse as her home canon, meaning that her BG3 AU will be a secondary verse that acts as a sequel of sorts to her DAO timeline, blurring both universes together a little.

her BG3 verse picks up ten years after the events of DAO, during the DAI timeline when the Hero of Ferelden is conspicuously absent and based around the line from a romanced warden Alistair where he talks about the DAO protagonist having gone "west" in search of a cure to the taint.

considering that Alistair is Val's romance by default, the difference here is that this takes place in her arc where she and Alistair have amicably broken up and he is made king. Val is pursuing a lead for a cure that takes her west of Thedas into the continent of Faerun, where she travels onward to the Sword Coast and is abducted by the nautiloid like the other origin companions.

following a wonderful discussion with mel ( @spiderwarden ) about the potential connections that can be drawn between the dalish and the drow in a crossover verse, Val would technically qualify in Faerun on first glance as a high elf, though her lifestyle and background is nothing like them for the most part. in a continent of heightened elven magic where Solas's tearing down of the veil did not reach, Val would have a high elven lifespan assuming that she is able to cure the taint that limits her lifespan to 20-30 years from her induction as a Grey Warden. ( as for how to cure it? like Grand Enchanter Fiona, she would need the taint "drawn" out of her bloodstream. it is mine and @anquenin's working theory that astarion, or rather vampires in general, could be the cure she's been looking for )

speaking of the taint, the effect of the Calling on Val is paused as a result of the mindflayer tadpole.

in DA she is a rogue class with the ranger specialisation ( and i have brought in D&D elements in terms of writing her over the past few years anyway ), so in BG3 i played her as a ranger / rogue ( and this is what stops me from making her a druid despite her background. she may originate from a nomadic clan but she was one of their hunters, and refined those combat skills during her years in Amaranthine leading the Grey Wardens )

naturally, Val's choices align with a "good" playthrough after already having saved the world once, but a lot of what i wish to explore with her BG3 arc is Val being in an older, more mature place as opposed to the 19/20 year old Val who was forced to join the Grey Wardens and amass an army to fight the Archdemon. that version of Val was naïve to much of human society and was pushed into a lot of decisions ( such as making Alistair king ) by those around her, particularly when it came to the Landsmeet. as a result, she prioritised duty and the safety of Ferelden over her own happiness during the game and for the ten years afterwards, and her BG3 arc gives her the chance to seize a happy ending for herself too.

How would they start dating? Let's see... I have lots of different ideas for how they could get together, but for a scenario that's close to the normal canon...

I think it would start with the two exchanging numbers. Not for any romantic intention, but so Yamano could message him ASAP whenever new products came in. That's all it is at first... but little by little, the texts start getting more personal. Yamano slips in fun stories about her day and the General responds in turn, sending her pictures of pandas and cats and other cute creatures he assumes she'd enjoy.

The General respects Yamano's opinion on anything and everything food-related, and starts asking for recommendations outside HopeMart. What restaurants does she frequent? Are there any cafes she'd like to visit? And so they start going out to eat together. After a while they make plans around their meals too, going to the zoo or the park or the beach. They even meet on Christmas and Valentine's Day to try special couples-only menu items.

Yamano feels like a person who'd insist "we're just good friends!!" until told otherwise, even if she wants more. The General is even worse, absolutely refusing to see any deep meaning in seeking the company of this one particular human.

They'd need some sort of push to admit their feelings.

Maybe Rooney spots them on one of their definitely not dates and curiously presses the General for answers on why he's engaging in human courtship rituals. Yamano starts to wonder why too. Maybe Trigger encounters them as well, but the way he balks at Yamano's presence doesn't sit well with the General at all.

Maybe the General's identity is revealed during a fight with the Rangers. A startled Yamano doesn't respond to his texts for a while afterwards. He worries that she'll never talk to him again - that she'll think he was deceiving her for some villainous purpose when the truth was... he just wanted to be with her.

The next time Yamano contacts him is through a phone call. They've never spoken like this before. Her voice sounds both strange and familiar through the speaker as she asks when his next day off is, and if he'd like to tell her more about himself over a proper dinner date??

Well, maybe something like that! That's probably my most natural / casual idea for the pair ^^;; I had lots of fun writing this in any case.

I'm open to asks on other scenario ideas if folks are interested, though I can't promise a big write-up every time...!

Gale and this oc didn't get along great, so that's my warning for that.

The lighting on the side view of Étoile and Astarion's hug could've been better, but these were both very sweet. Especially since I had to go back and hug Astarion based on seeing a friend's screenshots as I'd had Étoile ask whether he didn't want to go speak with the others. He seemed so standoffish.

I went back even further afterwards and had Étoile go to Avernus with Karlach just to see whether there was an angry reunion in this six months later, but the game registered it as having broken up with Astarion, though he did have much more to say as a friend than as a romantic partner.

And I've heard that in multiplayer that a character can speak with the player character who didn't romance them About their romance so I need to play with someone who will either make two very specific selections while romancing Astarion or who would be fine with me doing so, just so I can someday see what he might have to say.

Halsin walked through a hedge to get here. Étoile's going to fucking produce a handkerchief to dab the dirt from his scars, etc.

I'd like to think that Shadowheart's cottage is somewhere between Reithwin proper where Isobel and Dame Aylin are based, and Halsin's settlement which extends from Moonrise down to farmland in the valleys where Ketheric's army was camped. I think I'd place Komira and Arabella here too, and it's tempting to relocate Zevlor and Doni but I don't think you'd get Mol (and therefore a number of her kids) out of Baldur's Gate, and I still like the idea of the strained but reliable familial relationship she could have with the fallen Paladin if she needed to lay low from both thugs and the law.

Regardless, that's a lot of people at least a five days walk from Baldur's Gate, and maybe Astarion's quiet with Étoile because he suspects that they'd be staying there if they could, rather than managing his 7000 evil exes the chaos of the vampire spawn, his siblings, the drow and the city; and even if Étoile didn't want that, perhaps Astarion feels that all of their friends think Étoile would be better off in that life, and is a little less secure in facing them about it than he'd care to admit. Or maybe Astarion's quiet because he would rather be living either that or any other selfish life where he wouldn't have to consider what the spawn would be doing without oversight, where he wouldn't have to worry that moving to a wooden home would see it set ablaze around him by adventurous monster hunters who sought to see him in sunlight even at the cost of greatly disturbing all Halsin had built.

Karlach and Dammon would be in Baldur's Gate because Étoile was able to get her an item blessed with Auril's cold to act as a magical coolant for her heart.

Wyll and Florrick both heavily implied that Wyll would be Duke Ravengard at the end of Étoile's playthrough but in the epilogue he was once again the Blade of Frontiers, and a ranger. After seeing some screenshots on what was supposed to feature in the epilogue if Wyll became duke, I'm going to ignore whatever the hell happened there and maintain that he became duke. He featured in my plans for how the vampires would cope and govern!

Lae'zel and her son Xan may even have been my favorite part of the epilogue. They are so important to Étoile; who would drop everything to help for two months or so if Lae'zel asked them to help with her journey, though they'd doubt she'd need them to.

Gale is in Waterdeep. His relationship to Étoile was strained during the game events and it totally collapses / is held up by niceties only in post-canon. I still picked the hug because I think Étoile would be surprised by how much they missed Gale / how relieved they were to see him alive before the dread of his presence really set in. Gale clipping shoving himself face-first into Étoile's tits and his following line really made this awkward interaction feel authentic, lol.

Étoile wasn't willing to trust Mystra with the Crown of Karsus (and notes that she didn't promise anything with regards to their tadpoles), and signed a pact with Raphael, effectively condemning Gale; but mechanically Gale doesn't acknowledge this after the defeat of the netherbrain, and says he's going to reforge the crown for Mystra. Because of this, I'd either consider him and Étoile having an argument on the docks, or Gale's power being restored by the loss of the tadpole, as Wyll's are lost and Astarion regains a vampire's weaknesses. And Gale could be a level 17-20 wizard, with spell slots enough to cast Hold Monster on Astarion, to cast Time Stop, to cast Teleport, to put himself in the bay where he can retrieve the Crown immediately. Though perhaps he would be more subtle.

Étoile could express confusion and conflicting emotions upon seeing Gale in the epilogue, and at the end of Withers' party, Raphael could show up as he did post-credits, to accuse Étoile of allowing Gale to usurp his Crown, to express his warning that Mystra has now both the Crown and the Orb, and to threaten to make coin of Étoile's soul. I think rather than for a vague notion of "Étoile seeing the consequences of their actions," Raphael might not kill them instantly because he thinks himself patient, and if there's a chance Étoile could still honor their pact in the years they have left to them, that he believes them to be more useful living than as a piece of currency, but if the Crown is the possession of Mystra or another deity by the time their name is written in one of Withers' scrolls, then he would collect their soul as promised.

Étoile would deck Gale after Raphael left. I don't think they'd forgive each other, but they could probably remain civil in Karlach or Halsin's presence at least.

Raphael was such a stronger enemy for Étoile narratively than Mystra would be, but I'm happy to put that fic concept on the backburner to indulge this since it could give me an excuse to have Raphael around more to bitch instead of to need-to-be-defeated.

Other OC's I'd keep in Étoile's worldstate are Borgakh - a resident of Halsin's settlement, Upton - moved from Baldur's Gate to Waterdeep after their fiance died during the mindflayer madness, Uleri - a librarian in Baldur's Gate entangled in politics, and Yar'sul - a ranking githyanki sworn to the cause of the Comet.

arms: Does your OC have any weapons? What weapons do they carry, and how do they wear them when they're not fighting?

Character Design Asks

Korrinth favors long swords over other weapon styles, forgoing the traditional pair of glaives the Illidari are known for. She does actually keep smaller throwing glaives that she uses for ranger attacks. In addition she has a spell-book that is loaded with complex runes that she wouldn’t be able to draw during a battle, though it does have other utilities as well. Finally, she sports a pair of sharp claws and fangs, as well as a lengthy education in arcane magic that allows her to cast fel based spells.

One day I’ll give her a whip….. one day.

While she was never quite a martial character, Korrinth received some basic combat training focused on a blade when she spent time with the Sunfury army, then afterwards when she was trained as an Illidari, then honed over the decade or so slaying. Because of her lack of martial experience she found glaives to be far too cumbersome to be effective with, and settled on a pair of matching blades. Usually worn alongside her hips, she prefers alternating between standard and reverse grips when wielding them.

While she doesn’t utilize the larger glaives she still does use the Illidari staple at times in the form of a miniaturized throwing glaive. The blades fold for convenience and is stored on the backside of her belt. It isn’t a weapon she often employs mostly because she will rely on spells to close a distance like felfire bolt, fel lance, or corruption spike (I’m just making shit up).

Given her background as a mage spellcraft is a big part of her repertoire, as she often uses spells and runes in a fight. While she can certainly innately cast spells or draw runes, she keeps a rather lengthy spell-book that also gets utilized in conflict. It can be boiled down to her having more complex runes already drawn out that she will quickly tear out and apply fel to, mostly ones that are too complex to draw in the heat of battle. Beyond the combat applications, this also serves as her magical journal, bestiary, and sketchbook. It sits offset on the front of her belt, near the hilt of one of her blades.

Finally, Korrinth herself is a weapon due to the demonic mutations she received. While her corruption isn’t as complete as most Illidari, she still has the staples; Claws and fangs. Korrinth has been known to use these built in weapons at random. While they absolutely serve as a last line of defense when disarmed, she had been known to dispatch demons with them once already wounded in a feral showing of power, frustration, annoyance, or any mixture of the three, however she’s usually in an enraged or emotionally heightened state when that does happen.

Look I just have a lot of Feels about Eärendil choosing the fate of the elves for love, for Elwing's sake, despite feeling closer kinship to men. I just. I just can't see this as being about anything else

"What kind of flowers bloom in that paradise?" - I'm sorry this has a lot of very interesting vibes but my brain's just drawing a blank anyway

"What should I, in my weakness, loathe? Ah, now I finally know" - somehow this sounds very Garak. I think some kind of character study fic of Garak figuring out his feelings about, like, everything about living on DS9 but especially regarding a certain Doctor Julian Bashir...

"As we sing of the time of the cherry blossoms" - this has A Vibe, and makes me think of how cherry blossoms in japanese culture symbolize the briefness life, but again idk what characters or fandom it would be, sorry ':D

"The people who wandered in the dark" - makes me think of the dúnedain of the North for some reason. Maybe a fic set around the fall of the Arthedain, when the dúnedain of the north became rangers

"The fire of your soul that burned so red" - this has Merlin vibes somehow. Maybe a post-canon Merlin & immortal!Leon fic where Merlin never returns to Camelot after Arthur's death, but Leon finds him years later, still blaming himself for Arthur's death, barely a shadow of who he once was

"Dress me all in flowers white so no mortal eye can see" - this is a story about someone sacrificing themself. Idk why but it is. Maybe about Glorfindel during the Fall of Gondolin, fighting the balrog to save those who escaped the city. And maybe continuing on to his existence in the Halls of Mandos, afterwards. And maybe even onward to him returning to life and being tasked with going back to Middle-Earth.

2022 Art Summary

it is that time of the year again, folks. this year has felt like forever and so short simultaneously. it’s felt like nothing and everything was happening. it was a weird year for me, probably because for the most part it was rather monotonous. but there were some good things to look back on, and as per usual i’m here to round it up here for you all to look at and enjoy :3

i’ll be honest. i was really worried about the art summary this year at first because these first few months were so sparse. i even considered just condensing the whole thing into quarters since this one was so lacking. but as the year went on, the more things i had to share, so for sake of brevity i will be putting the first three months up all at once

included in this quarter are assorted Cosmic Legacy character sketches, a Genshin Impact sona to continue the trend i had wanted to set at the end of 2021 (which i did not continue afterward), a lil valentine’s day present to my girlfriend, and a shiny form for my sona that was just part of a inside bandwagon. not much to say otherwise :/

the one major thing that happened in the first few months of 2022 was that i FINALLY. GOT MY HANDS. ON A NINTENDO SWITCH. I CAN NO LONGER MEME ABOUT BEING SWITCHLESS

so that was pretty exciting :>

the release of Pokemon Legends: Arceus is what broke me, but before i played that i started off with a blind nuzlocke of Pokemon Shield, which is what the lil digital doodle in March is about; i had just caught a Stunky i named Wasabi and i was indifferent to Stunky up until catching him where i just fell in love with it

so, AI art, huh? this was when it was burgeoning, and still fun and popular to make. so when i saw some people using a 3d pokemon generator i made a whole bunch and gave it a go. i generated about 30 of them and hadn’t quite gotten to around a third of that, but the few i did were really fun to draw!

(the lil gremlin one at the top corner is uncolored here bc when i did try to color it my brain fully glitched and screwed up royally so i opted out of showing my failure here lol)

so my friend Cake started streaming a game called Your Turn to Die with me and our partner Stacey during the spring starting in late March, and it was such an incredible time that i miss being a part of (if you wanna watch our full playthrough, the vods are saved on her channel here)

so towards the end of our playthrough i decided to try my hand at drawing some stuff because my brain could not simply hold all of my feelings for them

i am definitely not biased because i played both Keiji and Rio Ranger in the stream, but i sure did like them a lot, and it was really fun to draw them :>

had a lot of cosmic drawings this month, most likely due to celebrating the One Year Anniversary of the concept at the beginning of the month! we celebrated with a cute little collab. i happened to continue the cosmic train on my end by coming up with a funny meme video idea (that we will get back to multiple times later on) and i also worked on a couple pieces in preparation for an upcoming event in the next month...

I FINALLY REMEMBERED TO SIGN UP AND PARTICIPATE IN ARTFIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME

it was a really fun event but i did not anticipate how late i would start my entries and how much time it would take to do them well, so i only got a few out, but i��m really proud of them! it was awesome to see all these brain children of random people from all around, and to get a couple responses back of my own as well! i’m excited to give it another go next year :3

i did not get a whole lot of art things done this month because MY GIRLFRIEND (and her roommate) CAME FROM OVERSEAS TO VISIT!!

it was such a great time being with them, and we had so much going on i didn’t get much opportunity to do much, but that was fine. one thing, related to my partner actually, is my pokemon gym trainer sona here! Stacey had been thinking about a fakemon region and wanted her friends as gym leaders, so i offered myself as a ground-type trainer, since it’s one of my favorite types and is rather underrated

a little more work got done on the cosmic meme video, and a couple other lil doodles. not much else artwise, but an awesome month regardless :3

idk why this month was so lacking, cuz this is pretty much all i had lol

the one decent sketch of my sona being angy was inspired by a post i found on here that was like... if you were a villain in a movie, what song would be playing at the point you would snap

and the choice i made was Faint by Linkin Park cuz it seemed applicable. and then my brain decided to listen to it on repeat and i ended up drawing that sketch. so that was cool :0

as per usual i do at least attempt to do an october art challenge, and this time i wanted to try this year’s annual list from Thomas Sanders, and it was pretty fun! i was really into it the first week, but then i got behind and after that point many of the prompts didn’t hold my attention, so... i trailed off. again

but! i do really like these ones in particular. didn’t really have much else after that so i’m glad i had fun with those

again this is p much all i had - november was a pretty nice time actually, with lots of gaming stuff going on with me n friends, but not so much art stuff was going on then

after having completed playing pkmn shield back in june, i tried my hand at pkmn legends pretty much right after that... and it didn’t quite click with me, though i did really like it. and then over the next few months i got back into pkmn go and that’s when i realized That’s more like what legends is about - it just screwed me up coming from a regular pkmn game. so, this month, i picked it up again and i’ve gotten much farther and much more attached!

in addition, later in the month my friends and i got back into playing stardew valley after nearly a year’s hiatus, and we made our characters based on the main trio in Cosmic Legacy, and so i drew Lalun with a parsnip. it was funny

and speaking of cosmic and video game things, Sonic Frontiers came out and i... did not get that one (though i will one day cuz it looks rad) BUT one of my friends got super into it and got me hooked on one of the songs, and then the part of my brain that associates fandom stuff with songs (a rarely triggered part of my brain) started to tie that to [REDACTED] here, as inspiration for their character. maybe. idk but the song gave me vibes that they could definitely have and i thought it was cool and i made a cool art with it too so yay

and here we are, at the end of the year! the sonic hype train was still rolling so i thought about giving them another go and they turned out pretty good! and i pumped out some more pokemon content at the very end to inflate this month’s art stuff a lil bit more

OH YEAH and that cosmic meme got finished just in time for crimmis! here is the link to that since i would not post it here

all in all it’s been. a year, to say the least. i am definitely looking forward to new things in the new year, but this one had been pretty alright. lots of fun and memorable things that hopefully i can continue doing similarly in the future :3

I made a post going over this recently but I wanted to make a pic to help spread the word of my idea about a sequel being made.

This year the Power Rangers franchise turned 30 years old and it was celebrated by Netflix making a movie featuring the cast from the Mighty Morphin era of the series fighting a returned robotic Rita Repulsa, ah Power Rangers. I thought it was really good, but now its been confirmed that Netflix has plans for a Power Rangers reboot after the current Power Rangers show they are airing ends. Now I would have been okay with this decision but after thinking back to the movie, I think the people at Netflix should put the reboot on hold for a bit so they can do a sequel movie to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once a Ranger because I could see the sequel doing something that ALL Power Ranger fans would love to see.

Spoilers for those that haven’t seen the movie (or know much about the older Power Ranger shows) but in the movie Billy (the first Blue Rangers) revealed that he has been trying to bring Zordon (the mentor of the first Power Rangers team) back, but accidentally brought back Rita Repulsa’s evil side. The movie ends with Billy saying he is going back into space to heal the Rangers that were effected by Rita during her attacks but after a talk with the new Yellow Ranger, was motivated to keeping looking for Zordon and bringing him back.

The Rangers bringing back Zordon would be the PERFECT way to end the current Power Ranger series before a reboot, especially with the Power Rangers in Space theme vibes the ending was giving off as that was the series where not only Zordon gave his life to save the universe but also the season that prevented the Power Rangers from ending all those years ago. I saw someone suggest the idea of having Andros (the In Space Red Ranger) being the one to do so and I agree with that, as he was the one Zordon asked to destroy him and thus save the day but we never saw how that effected Andros afterwards. This could give the character a story arc in the movie where he finally gets closure by undoing his act and bringing Zordon back. It would also be nice to see Zordon seeing how his teenagers with attitude have grown up and that the Power Rangers still kept his dream of defending the world from evil alive after all this time.

Luckily If this doesn't happen soon I could still see it possibly happening one day as there has been a Power Rangers multiverse in the franchise for a while now, so while Netflix does its reboot series, I could still see adventures happening in the current Power Ranger timelines, whether it be through more shows, comics, or said sequel.

I have really tried not to, however there is one person I do hold a grudge with and that's because my wife left me for a complete clusterfuck of a delusional idiot and she had the nerve to rub it in my face when they were together only for her to be entirely wrong about the dumbfuck afterward. She's told me that he wasn't the one that broke she and I up and that our relationship was over well before then, I think she's lying but w/e.

What’s your opinion on the Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers Peter Pan controversy?

Wow, Disney trying to whitewash their own history in order to make themselves look better? Who would have thought?

Yeah, here’s the context in case anyone reading this doesn’t know. Bobby Driscoll was a child actor during the early days of Walt Disney Studios, starring in films like Song of the South and Treasure Island. You might recognize him more as the original voice actor for the titular character of Peter Pan in 1953. However, just a few weeks after that movie hit theaters, his contract with Disney was terminated due to Driscoll hitting puberty around that time, and it was hard for makeup artists to cover up his acne. Afterwards, his life really went downhill, as he struggled to find ends meet, developed a drug addiction, and on March 30th, 1968, two boys found his dead body in an abandoned apartment. He was only 31 years old, and his family didn’t even know he was dead until almost two years later.

And then 54 years later, some people writing the semi-reboot/semi-sequel to Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers thought, “Hey, you know that child actor who was abandoned by Disney as soon as his voice cracked and died alone at a very young age? Let’s make him the villain of this movie!”

The main villain of the movie, Sweet Pete, was a toon who was cast in the lead role of Peter Pan before being dumped by the nameless studio after getting older. Obviously, this is meant to represent the same treatment Driscoll received from Disney, but obviously, they couldn’t put the Mouse’s name in a bad light, so they make him genetically modify other toons to make bootleg movies of Disney classics. In addition, his character design was basically Peter Pan (iconic green jumpsuit and all), except he’s noticeably out of shape, has a very hairy chest and arms, has a visible five o’clock shadow, is clearly balding underneath his cap, and has the gruff voice of Will Arnett.

And it’d be one thing if this was an attempt to shed light on the terrible treatment Driscoll got, but outside of his backstory, he isn’t portrayed in a sympathetic light at all. The fact that the movie went out of their way to make light of a story about a child actor being abandoned by the very same company funding them is unbelievably insensitive. They try to do something towards the end by comparing him to what caused Chip and Dale to break up, but that doesn’t work because A) Rescue Rangers was cancelled because Dale wanted to try starring in his own show, and B) Chip and Dale were at least adults when their big break was cancelled, while Driscoll/Sweet Pete was basically a teenager.

Hell, there wasn’t even any reason Sweet Pete had to be the villain, because after his backstory, outside of a handful of references to the 1953 movie, he could be replaced with literally any other character. You could have at least had fun with the idea of an evil Peter Pan, as a lot of people agree he was an asshole in the movie. You could have made the Lost Boys his henchmen instead of the original characters created for the movie. You could have given Pete a pet crocodile to feed the hands of his enemies to. You could have made Captain Hook and Smee police officers trying to catch Pete in a subversion of their dynamic in the original movie.

Instead, this movie went out of its way to make the villain’s backstory eerily similar to what a real person went through, and instead of making this about how poorly Disney can treat its talent, they instead use him to represent the cheap bootleg movies ripping off Disney films, as if Sweet Pete isn’t like any of the “real” animated movies Disney has made. I may believe that Astruc based the character of Chloe off someone he knew, but I am positive that even he wouldn’t stoop this low to start portraying her in as negative a light as what this movie did with Driscoll.

In fact, part of me likes to think that Thomas Astruc and Jeremy Zag were approached by the producers of this movie to ask them about including Ladybug, saw the plans for the movie and how classic cartoons like Peter Pan were treated, laughed like madmen, and had their unexpected guests thrown out by security.

An interesting result of the Jon & Catelyn tension is the way that, once out of Winterfell, Jon confronts her influence on him. It would be wrong to say he didn't internalize any part of her, because he did: he got the hardest parts of her, so naturally she shows up in the most flawed parts of him. The parts of him he's forced to face in AGOT.

Many asoiaf characters re-enact their own trauma/abuse/humiliation (Theon with Beth Cassel, Cersei with Taena, Arya with Raff the Sweetling) and Jon is no different.

As he watched his uncle lead his horse into the tunnel, Jon had remembered the things that Tyrion Lannister told him on the kingsroad, and in his mind's eye he saw Ben Stark lying dead, his blood red on the snow. The thought made him sick. What was he becoming? Afterward he sought out Ghost in the loneliness of his cell, and buried his face in his thick white fur.

Anyway, there are similarities btwn AGOT Jon and Catelyn turning their negative emotions out on others [first two quotes regarding their brothers, the last two when they feel hurt & lash out to make the hurt mutual]:

Jon noticed the shy looks [Myrcella] gave Robb as they passed between the tables and the timid way she smiled at him. He decided she was insipid. Robb didn't even have the sense to realize how stupid she was; he was grinning like a fool.

"Cersei Lannister is comely," she said sharply. "You'd be wiser to pray that Roslin is strong and healthy, with a good head and a loyal heart." And with that she left them.

Edmure did not take that well. The next day he avoided her entirely on the march, preferring the company of Marq Piper, Lymond Goodbrook, Patrek Mallister, and the young Vances. They do not scold him, except in jest, Catelyn told herself when they raced by her that afternoon with nary a word. I have always been too hard with Edmure, and now grief sharpens my every word. She regretted her rebuke. There was rain enough falling from the sky without her making more. And was it really such a terrible thing, to want a pretty wife?

Jon Snow stroked Ghost's thick white fur, smiling now. "Ask me nicely."

Tyrion Lannister felt the anger coiling inside him, and crushed it out with a will. It was not the first time in his life he had been humiliated, and it would not be the last. Perhaps he even deserved this. "I should be very grateful for your kind assistance, Jon," he said mildly.

"No more than Theon Greyjoy would harm Bran or Rickon?"

Grey Wind leapt up atop King Tristifer's crypt, his teeth bared. Robb's own face was cold. "That is as cruel as it is unfair. Jon is no Theon."

-ASOS, Catelyn V

However, these sort of kneejerk responses don't become a habit for Jon. There is a learning curve, but when Jon's behavior is pointed out to him (you're a bastard and a bully) he makes different choices. Jon and Tyrion form a friendship. When his anger flares at not being named ranger, Sam makes him realize the folly of his own pride. Later on with Gilly, Jon gets upset at the unfairness of the situation but forces himself to accept a resolution he personally does not like.

This is dissimilar to Catelyn, as seen through her feelings towards Jon: Catelyn accepts that bastards exist, recognizes them in Ned/Edmure/Robert's case, however the Stark way of raising bastards in the home isn't something she can stomach. Catelyn finds Jon's presence likely as unjust as Jon finds his fellow Night's Watch recruits at first. Who bears the brunt of these dissatisfactions? In Catelyn's case it's Jon til the end; in Jon's case it's Grenn and Pyp and Halder, until he confronts his own privilege and befriends them instead.

Contrast how Jon opens himself to the wildlings, eventually coming to compromises with them, to how Catelyn approaches Tyrion during their time at the Eyrie. These are both situations in which Catelyn and Jon face their supposed enemies, even gain some respect and trust for them, but where Jon learns to be malleable, Catelyn purposely fortifies herself against that.

She believes she has to, in order to be strong.

She woke aching and alone and weary; weary of riding, weary of hurting, weary of duty. I want to weep, she thought. I want to be comforted. I'm so tired of being strong. I want to be foolish and frightened for once.

And this is the tragedy of Catelyn, in my view. She is so smart. She is deft, patient, loyal, moral. Catelyn's worldview serves her well except that she can't see past it - in part because she doesn't allow herself to. At various points, she does express empathy and understanding, but it doesn't ever mark a true deviation from her original beliefs (family, duty, honor).

"Does Cersei pray to you too, my lady?" Catelyn asked the Mother. She could see the proud, cold, lovely features of the Lannister queen etched upon the wall. The crack was still there; even Cersei could weep for her children.

"And who would keep you safe, my lady?"

Her smile was wan and tired. "Why, the men of my House. Or so my lady mother taught me. My lord father, my brother, my uncle, my husband, they will keep me safe... but while they are away from me, I suppose you must fill their place, Brienne."

-ACOK, Catelyn VI

The next day, as she broke her fast, Catelyn asked for quill and paper and began a letter to her sister in the Vale of Arryn. She told Lysa of Bran and Rickon, struggling with the words, but mostly she wrote of their father. His thoughts are all of the wrong he did you, now that his time grows short. Maester Vyman says he dare not make the milk of the poppy any stronger. It is time for Father to lay down his sword and shield. It is time for him to rest. Yet he fights on grimly, will not yield. It is for your sake, I think. He needs your forgiveness. The war has made the road from the Eyrie to Riverrun dangerous to travel, I know, but surely a strong force of knights could see you safely through the Mountains of the Moon? A hundred men, or a thousand? And if you cannot come, will you not write him at least? A few words of love, so he might die in peace? Write what you will, and I shall read it to him, and ease his way.

Last one is important because Catelyn has pieced together the abortion Hoster forced on Lysa, is deeply sympathetic, but what she expresses in words is concern for Hoster's relationship with Lysa that suffered as a result. Not for Lysa who lost a wanted child and wept buckets on her wedding day. Catelyn's letter, regardless of goodwill, guilts Lysa - it's phrased with compassion for the father they share but it isn't an affirmation of Lysa's pain, instead centering Hoster. That's part of a tendency, part of how she understands Cersei through the lens of motherhood, Brienne through the lens of temporary necessity. Sorting them back into place. Lysa as the benevolent daughter.

Compare these two scenarios where Jon and Catelyn are asked to confront their past biases:

Small wonder that the Seven Kingdoms thought the free folk scarcely human. They have no laws, no honor, not even simple decency. They steal endlessly from each other, breed like beasts, prefer rape to marriage

Jon had to laugh. Even now, even here. Ygritte had been fond of Longspear Ryk. He hoped he found some joy with Tormund's Munda. Someone needed to find some joy somewhere.

"Mya Stone, if it please you, my lady," the girl said. It did not please her; it was an effort for Catelyn to keep the smile on her face. Stone was a bastard's name in the Vale, as Snow was in the north, and Flowers in Highgarden; in each of the Seven Kingdoms, custom had fashioned a surname for children born with no names of their own. Catelyn had nothing against this girl, but suddenly she could not help but think of Ned's bastard on the Wall, and the thought made her angry and guilty, both at once.

-AGOT, Catelyn VI

Angry and guilty. A combination Jon feels in one of his lowest moments as well, when he's ashamed of how he reacted to being (fairly!) rejected and dismissed.

Jon remembered the wish he'd wished in his anger, the vision of Benjen Stark dead in the snow, and he looked away quickly. The dwarf had a way of sensing things, and Jon did not want him to see the guilt in his eyes.

It's fair to find these sort of parallels unsavory, but people are products of their environments, of the times they were loved and the times they were spurned. In Jon's case we can't really understand how anti-bastard sentiment affects him without looking at the human element of it, which necessitates discussing Catelyn in specific.

The chip on Jon's shoulder didn't magically disappear; it had to crumble slowly, bit by bit (and even then not entirely). In AGOT-ASOS Jon experimented with & rejected exclusionary ideals in exchange for a more expansive worldview that he could never quite have in Winterfell. Good for him, and a logical culmination of his emotional journey.
