I mean it's pretty much just (hilariously) canon that Su She is the most OP character in the series. He's just nerfed hard by being incredibly unlucky, making bad choices, and falling for stupid tricks. He's not the smartest guy, not even close. He's not the strongest guy either, tbh.

But like if you're just describing this dude, like even just from the novel... Ok here's a guy who can do demonic cultivation. He can cut off the cultivation from like hundreds of people without them noticing. This dude can teleport like that's a pretty big thing that he can do. No one else teleports, but this guy. This guy teleports. He's proficient in curses, he's proficient in musical cultivation, he's proficient in sword techniques. He's 'not as good as Lan Wangji' but again literally no reason why he *couldn't* just teleport into his room in the middle of the night and kill him before he realized what was happening. It's strongly implied he's the guy *making* these Turmoil remixes, at least alongside Jin Guangyao. In the 'present day' scenes of the book, there's always, always reasons why Su She is never "at full power", especially in Guanyin Temple, like he's drained from transportation, he's wounded, his sword is broken, and he's been beat up and like he still has enough energy to shatter another sword? Oh! And his cultivation is permanently damaged from the hundred holes blowback.

The first time they meet Gravedigger!SMS, Wei Wuxian is even like "huh I wonder if that guy was Lan Xichen?" So like, he's not as strong as Lan Wangji (who like is the strongest guy), but Lan Xichen? Yeah he's about on par with Lan Xichen I guess that's fine.

And I mean you have to consider, Jin Guangyao's a pretty reasonable guy, who looked at the entire cultivation world turning against him, with the esteemed Twin Jades and resurrected Yiling Patriarch leading the charge and he's apparently like... 'oh yeah. Minshan can handle that'. Like I'd call myself a Su She stan, but I'd be getting the boat ready way sooner than JGY here! Like we'd be leaving immediately! He might just be taken in by the power of positive thinking but I think, Jin Guangyao is actually like number one Su She stan! And he's very nearly correct? If those Wens didn't show up and stop the Second Siege? That's absurd. There's no reason why 'Su She vs. The Entire Cultivation World' should have ended up being such a near miss.

((And of course he finds it personally fulfilling to be JGY's devoted henchman, JGY is the one who believes in him and his abilities and encourages him. Evidently he's not even bs-ing it, he really believes Su She is talented and capable, so Su She becomes talented and capable for him! Sorry for the conjecture, but, I think Su she has to know he's not going to do anywhere near as good a job in politics as Jin Guangyao, and supporting Jin Guangyao is probably genuinely a fulfilling role for him. He's very pro-Jin Guangyao.))

The Second Flautist remains the stupidest but also funniest adaptation choice. Su Minshan, heretofore portrayed as a cringefail loser who needed Wangxian and Wen Ning to save his ass from the Waterborne Abyss, overrides Wei Wuxian’s demonic cultivation abilities TWICE. Not only does he seize control of Wen Ning, but he manipulates the resentment summoned by Wei Wuxian to attack people and turn them into puppets at Nightless City SO EFFECTIVELY that Wei Wuxian cannot regain control of them even on an individual basis with the Yin Tiger Tally helping him.

Su Minshan, true Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, is the most overpowered character in the entire series, and we must therefore conclude that he chooses to be Jin Guangyao’s devoted henchman rather than seizing any power for himself because he finds it personally fulfilling.

okok look while I am obviously SOOO into where Arcane went with the Machine/Arcane Herald, I can get why gamers who liked og LoL Viktor would be Big Annoyed at him being totally retconned and overhauled in game. That is undeniably a totally different guy there and yeah it would be shitty to have the guy you like completely swapped out. I can especially get it if they liked the mechanical cyborg engineering aspects of his character!

BU T I keep seeing iterations of "he didn't choose anything for himself he just had things happen to him" or "he just went mystic. he used to be someone who used his genius to remake himself and now he just meditated himself into a wizard" and I am so so down to meet in the pit on those takes!! I get people not liking the less mechanical aspects of him but hhhhhhohmygod do not be taking my guys agency and genius down like that

Yes the initial full fusing with the hexcore is something that happened to him, that someone who loved him maybe too much did to him (almost like Arcane has themes of people being launched down dark paths by things that happen to them beyond their control hMmMmmmmmm!!!) And btw I still hold that while his brain got changed by trauma (bc trauma DOES THAT) and the hexcore helped amplify and empower him leaning into his worst traits, after Jayce forced that initial fusion everything Viktor did was a choice.

But also!! Jayce used Viktor's notes. Viktor was the one who went down and got shimmer, who lied and experimented in secret. He stumbled into noticing the hexcore responding to biological material but then he pursued that avenue (because LIFE is a lot of stumbling into things and then deciding what to do from there), figured out what interdisciplinary collaborations he needed to make, figured out on his FIRST TRY what runes he would need to put where.

And while they don't lean into the mechanical engineering genius as much as the OG Viktor like...guys that's a software engineer with a big scoop of magic theorist on top of it (who then started a pivot into biomechanical arcane theory like THAT). He made a magic AI! Don't go telling me he didn't use his genius to become the Arcane Herald when he made a magic AI and then I got to watch the hexclaw grabbing and programming runes into spells like the coolest shit ever!!

That man figured out how to make Jayce's ideas into reality. He then used the scant knowledge of the arcane that still exists to figure out and recreate, using technology, what mages do by instinct. He made a MAGIC AI HOLY SHIT. Jayce is STILL referencing Viktor's rune theories to figure out the anomaly!!

He did not use the same type of genius to become the same type of Herald, but my guy invented being a technomancer so hard that he turned himself into a magical supercomputer and was so good at THAT that he made himself a robowizard god and I will not be hearing anything belittling how nuts that is!!

the company i work for decided that its switching from the german formal "You"(Sie) to the informal "you" (Du) in all of our websites so now we have to scour the entire database to change it and i quite frankly hate that, not just bc the unecessary extra work but especially bc its such a weird and unecessary change

i bet its bc everything here is getting englishfied (both literally and culturally it feels like, when my new boss talks its half in english bc every second german word is just replaced by an english one despite there being perfectly fine words for it in german too, its so annoying) and bc they want to sound more personal in hopes of getting more clients bc 'company is your fwiend uwu!!', i know this here is the amercian tm site so you wouldnt understand really but i do not want to be greeted with 'du' by companies, no, thats too personal, you dont know me and im not giving you my data, stay away!!

i guess thats how i would describe it .. the formal you is like a polite distance, like someone you dont know staying outside your personal space, but when its the informal 'you' it feels invasive unless i told you you can call me that, and that goes double for companies

maybe its a small thing that doesnt seem important but i cant stand it, im just a little part time worker doing data work so i got no say in it but the companies founder also announced hes giving his post to his kids some time ago so ...... since then theres been alot of changes and new projects that solely aim to imitate whats popular and whats done by other companies, despite ours being one that is, or used to be, intentionally different, like, that was the POINT, but i guess chasing trends is just too appealing for CEOs
