- back to sever side PR code from yesterday but not cigar

- come home to make pasta for dinner

- fortnite

today i:

- woke up at 8:15am ish. had to go shower because stuff happened overnight while i was asleep. cut my fingernails, shaved, and ubered to work

- got to work, mentally preparing myself for another long day of debugging. got breakfast and was at my desk by like 9:45am ish

- spent the first hour and a half debuggin. matias came over to help me try to debug the code. we got very deep into the stack calls to the third party library calls. i learned about lldb in Xcode which was cool. we realized that the assignment that seemed to be a ghost/not assigning the attributed string property was actually correctly doing its job... despite Xcode saying that it was nil. we then spent some time trying to figure out why the frame was 0. i had to pocket it after a bit around 11:45am

- met up with xueyan briefly to discuss some comments on our doc and then go to the design doc review meeting. the meeting for our project was 12-12:30 but most of the time was taken up by several people discussing long term/large scope implications of this project. xueyan and i only spoke briefly, which was a lot different than the meeting on monday. i feel like we got good feedback on monday, but this meeting was also interesting cause we were mostly listening in to other people discuss why they thought some tradeoff was worth or not

- grabbed lunch with my mentor, just chatting about my project/his work

- went back to debugging the iOS PR. slow and steady trying to figure out why the frame was 0 and not being defined. i pinged matias a lot, trying different things. 

- met up with my secondary mentor for our weekly meeting. it was a coincidence, she was actually dealing with a bug for a few days and was feeling tired/stressed. we met briefly for about 25 minutes from 3-3:25pm and then we were like okay time to go back to work LOL

- went back and tried to keep debugging. matias suggested i could use a different approach by defining the frame manually. i gave that a try and at least got the elements to show up on the page. but it was being injected into the proper uiview... it was being overlayed. i went over to his desk to ask and he suggested maybe i was adding the wrong subview to the uiview. so i accessed the property within the uiview.. but that still didn’t work. it actually removed what i was trying to display all together. and then i realized... what if instead of adding a subview, i was just supposed to assign the value........

and then

IT WORKED!!!!

i literally gasped out loud and thanked him a lot LOL. i was so happy. it was almost like the same rush of happiness i felt when doing CSDS homework. omg i was soooo happy

i brought it over to my mentor to show him that it worked and he was also really happy :D 

- went back to my desk to clean up the code and realized that i didn’t even need to have the extra code defining the frame manually altogether. it really was just that one line of setting the view instead of adding the subview... four days worth of work all cause of one line. wow

- formalized the code and put up the PR. i’ll need to add a unit test tomorrow, which that in itself might take a while to figure out how to do... but we’ll see how it goes

- switched gears to try out the server side PR from yesterday. i waited for a while for stuff to build and then gave it a try. it still wasn’t working, even though i thought i had come up with a fix since yesterday. at that point it was around 7:15pm and i was like... okay i’m done for the day

my mentor and i headed out and then i ubered home

i got back around 7:30pm

- finally cooked a meal for the first time. i boiled pasta and added alfredo sauce and then threw some slices of ham in there cause i wanted some flavor LOL

i watched some of konosuba while eating. it was like season 1 episode 7 i think...? idk i honestly kind of stopped paying attention after a while cause i was focused on other thoughts with what’s been going on with a friend

- decided to play fortnite with jwoos, started a download update for season 5. it took forever but while i was waiting i decided to watch all of alex ernst’s vlogs

also while i was waiting i wrote up yesterday’s blog post. then around 10pm it was finished updating

- jwoos and i played a game of duos and then his friend, ian, also wanted to play. we played like 4-5 games. it was fun messing around on the golf carts and seeing the new parts of the map. the meta has changed apparently? to use submachine guns + shotties or something. idk. but after like the first two games, i started lagging really bad. like jumping between 100-200 ping >.>

it made the game unplayable so i was like i give up. we stopped playing around 11:30 or so

i took a shower and now i’m typing this up at 12:36am

time to sleep

today i:

- woke up at like 10:35am, literally moments before my alarm went off (i set it for 10:36am which seems random but it was just basically 12 hours from when i set the alarm) 

- got out of bed and made a pb&j sandwich. ate it and watched john oliver’s episode on cryptocurrency

fun episode to watch

- headed to class around 12:10pm. was again first shown up by an express T >.> then caught the next T to class and arrived around 12:25pm. we learned about power and EM as side channel attacks in crypto lecture

- walked back to west with brian, ryan and mark. we grabbed roast beast as our lunch and then watched an episode of rick and morty. i believe it was the “Ricklantis Mixup”

- mark and ryan left around 3pm and brian and i started on mobile app dev. it was pretty straightforward, just a slider that controls the transparency in another fragment. we finished in like 30 minutes. we also went over the MC questions and then it was like 4pm ish. we just played smash for like an hour and a half

- around 5:30, dimitri came back from work and we double checked over our parts before submission. turns out my hangman fragment thing was throwing a null error. and the reason was because even though i set the code to be in landscape, it was still running code in portrait first before switching to landscape. so i just had to add a null checker. idk why it worked on my laptop after rerunning on the second try

officially got confirmation of a snow day tomorrow. WOOOOOOO

- ate my leftovers real quick from flushing, and then headed to east campus around 6:50pm. we had our hackathon organizer meeting. i was late cause of the T and got in around 7:05pm. the meeting ended around 7:15pm and we transitioned over to prepare for the cloud infra workshop that our past director was teaching.

it started at like 7:30pm and there were so many people. like 40-50 some people? it was packed

he gave a great presentation about infra, starting with a basic server and then expanding version by version to create more elaborate systems. i wanted to stay but had to leave around 8pm to go to OW

- i went to OW because i was giving a mini-talk on CS and ethics because these things are very important. we were missing a lot of members from the meeting since it was the first meeting back so i wish there were more people there. but i think it was relatively successful nonetheless (even though i mumbled my way through the latter half)

- planned out android workshop, and then just kind of hung around for like an hour and a half. it was me jules sho alexa and filip just hanging out after 9:45pm. we chatted about a bunch of random stuff like ML, internships, app feedback, youtube, classes, etc. it was a good time. i finally left around like 10:45pm

- stopped by star market to get groceries. the lines were insanely long. the calm before the storm... so many people were buying groceries before the snow storm tomorrow. i waited for like maybe 15 ish minutes, finally got done with everything by like 11:45pm. 

came home, unpacked everything, took a shower, and then just kind of lazed around for a bit. i honestly didn’t know what i was doing, i just kind of sat on my laptop switching tabs. i’m tired now though, i’m ready to crash

it’s 1:43am. we have a snow day tomorrow. WOOOOO
