To be honest. DCxDP where the reason Danny meets the bats is Ace the Bat-hound
Like, just think about it for a second. Danny is in Gotham for college, or maybe he just moved out to find a city where having mad scientist parents isnāt actually that unusual.
He can see ghosts.
The ghosts know this.
Now heās getting harassed left and right by spirits trying to get closure. Fine, whatever, most of them are a one-and-done type deal, and the amount of ghosts trying to get his help steadily decreases.
Except for this one very stubborn dog.
It just keeps showing up and leading him to crime scenes! He doesnāt know how many āanonymous tipsā he can call in to the cops before they trace his phone! And this dog, this incredibly good boy, will not stop trying to help the city. Heās never met anyone with such a strong sense of justice, let alone a dog. Can dogs even have a moral compass?
And so Danny just accepts the fact that Ace isnāt going anywhere and becomes his reluctant sidekick/dedicated medium. He leans into the whole thing, dressing up in a mix of traditional magic-user attire and accessories that pay homage to the ghost dog.
He becomes somewhat well known. The psychopomp detective following around the shadowy figure of a German Shepard? Thatās unusual! Thatās weird! I mean, itās not the weirdest thing in Gotham, sure, but heās a new vigilante and heās got a ghost dog that people can only see when itās around him. Someoneās gonna notice.
Damian, as Robin, is the first to reach out to him.
Ace doesnāt know Damian but he does know a Robin, and while this isnāt his Robin, heās still friendlier than usual. Dannyās panicking because oh god the bats are here and also is this kid gonna steal my ghost dog, Damian is absolutely delighted by Ace, and Ace is just happy to see a Robin again.
Damian decides that the psychopomp isnāt a danger to anyone, and thereās no reason to put this encounter into his reports, really, and perhaps Danny can help with some of his cases in the future.
Danny is sweating bullets because Damian basically tells him that heāll keep him secret as long as he gets to play with Ace. Ace is happy that heās finally getting some bat affiliated crime-fighting assistance.
And so, Danny is now both Ace AND Damianās reluctant assistant. At least whenever heās in trouble, he can always call a middle schooler to help him.
(Is Robin even in school? Heās out patrolling damn near every night, and he stays out late as hell. Does he have a bedtime? He should.)
Eventually it gets to the point where Damian is going over to Dannyās house. When he first sees it, he has a damn bitch you live like this moment, to which Danny responds that not everyone has the money to afford a nice place. Damian counters that he could at least take the time to clean up, and Danny replies that heās working, going to school, and being a vigilante assistant to a ghost dog, somethingās got to give.
Danny nearly has a heart attack when he checks his bank account the next day and sees that someone transferred him 10,000 dollars.
And so they get into a routine. Danny and Damian fight crime with Ace at night, and occasionally Damian stops by during the day to play with Ace and have Danny help with his homework.
(Damian is smart enough to do it on his own, but some of the instructions are written incredibly confusingly, and he would never admit to needing help to his family. Danny is just glad that the kid is in school and cares about his education, blissfully unaware that heās basically emotionally adopted him.)
Damian is used to being in Dannyās company.
Eventually, when going over a case with the family, Damian absentmindedly remarks that heāll have to ask Danny about some of the clues that they might be missing. Nightwing asks who he means and Damian makes a face like he just swallowed a lemon.
Cue shitstorm.
Who is āDanny?ā Why is Damian willing to ask for help from anyone, much less someone outside of the family? Does he know who Damian is? Has Damian been compromised? What the hell is going on?
Damian now has to explain that Danny is the psychopomp with the ghost dog who he might have met hunted down while on patrol and conveniently not mentioned, but heās not a bad person, really, and he lets him play with Ace, and heās been quite helpful on certain cases due to his ability to talk to ghosts.
Bruce insists that the family meet Danny. Damian, hoping that he wonāt just skip town the second he hears the news, relents.
Danny is surprisingly eager to meet the bats, considering his earlier fears.
Damian, blissfully unaware of whatās coming, sets a time and place to meet.
Once everyone is there, he gives Bruce the earful of a lifetime.
Robin is in middle school! Danny knows that thereās no way to stop the boy from going on patrol, but you could at least shift his schedule so he gets enough sleep on school nights! Does the Bat even know where he is half the time?! (No) And why isnāt he comfortable asking his family for help with both cases and homework? Did they ever even notice how much time he was spending at Dannyās house? If Danny was a bad person, he could have seriously hurt the poor boy! Shame on you!
Nightwing is mortified that Damian didnāt trust him enough to tell him about any of this. Red Hood is laughing his ass off, because yeah Danny is making good points but heās also chewing out the literal Batman. Tim is recording the whole thing. Steph is delighted by the absolute gall of this Danger Twinkā¢ļø, and already planning to add him to several groupchats. Damian is more embarrassed than heās ever been in his entire life.
You, he points to Nightwing, did your academic life feel supported when you were a Robin? Nightwing is too stunned to speak. Red Hood, eternal shit-stirrer, says that oh, we all prioritized patrol over our education, thatās just how it is. Red Robin actually dropped out of high school to avoid distractions, did you know that?
Danny honest-to-god shrieks at this.
He finishes his angry rant and leaves, everyone too stunned to stop him.
And as it turns out, Tim wasnāt the only person recording the whole thing.
The entire internet is blowing up with Psychopomp The Danger Twinkā¢ļøās rant. People are taking sides. Things are getting messy. Red Hood literally admitting on-camera to previously being a Robin is somehow not the main focus here.
Eventually someone connects some dots from the video, as well as stories circling the internet about the psychopomp. A ghost dog named Ace, who is the literal only reason that the psychopomp is fighting crime at all, which seems incredibly fond of Nightwing and Robin.
A crime-fighting dog who wants constant attention from both the current and original Robin.
Oh my god, Ace the Bat-hound died and became a crime-fighting ghost.
And, somehow, thatās still not the strangest thing going on in Gotham.
#dcxdp#dc x dp#dp x dc#dpxdc#dp x dc crossover#dc x dp prompt#literally Ace is too good a boy to pass on#this veered wildly into āDanny emotionally adopts Damianā but really itās what he deserves#sometimes family is an ex child assassin an undead college student and a ghost dog#also Danny gives literally no shits during investigations because he Cannot Die#he will just casually take 40 bullets to the chest like itās nothing#if he encounters a rogue he will beat the everloving hell out of them and then give them Jazzās card#(sheās doing confidential therapy for vigilantes and rogues)#except for the ones who are too far gone. like the joker#heās a bitch and Danny hates him#if given the opportunity Danny would gladly kill him but Clockwork says heās not allowed to do that#so he settles with beating the hell out of him and then covering all his stuff in glue#and of course alerting the authorities

silco is a great character. but if your love of silco causes you to hate on vi Iām gonna need you to reevaluate some things
like vi has every reason to hate silco all of which are valid for her to believe. yea she doesnāt get that silco actually cared for jinx. but like bro she was imprisoned?? and like? he killed her family??? why would she ever see him in any way either than that?? she doesnāt know about his political motivations and those donāt justify him trying to kill her family????
viās been in prison for years and obviously would assume that jinx became the way she is cuz of silco. and she isnāt even fully wrong to assume that cuz silco raised jinx for years and yea he did let her get to this point. like yea itās complicated cuz of his own issues and his messed up ideology kinda make him incapable of being a good parent no matter how hard he tries. but vi aināt giving him the benefit of the doubt and like why tf would your expect her to?? obviously we know that there was some jinx brewing beneath the surface of powder in act1. but how tf was vi supposed to have predicted this?? silcoās parenting undeniably contributed to who jinx became. so vi isnāt even wrong to believe this. not 100% right but not 100% wrong.
and like jinx is so different from viās perspective ofc vi is gonna 100% blame silco on that. and like she has a right to. like vi shows up to try and save her sister and silco tries to kill her and yaps about āfreeingā jinx. like what is vi supposed to conclude from that other than silco is Mr. evil and a sister- stealer. like yes girl go blow up his factory.
āsilco was there when vi abandoned powderā actually what tf are you talking about. vi was 15. experiencing a trauma no one eve should. she invisibly shouldnāt have hit powder but like I completely understand why she fricking did. understandable emotional reaction for a 15 yo. how are we still giving her shit about this?? plus she TRIES TO GO BACK TO POWDER. BUT IS PUT IN PRISON FOR 7 FUCKING YEARS. she walked off to cool off not abandon her sister.
also the point is that silco misunderstands jinxās situation. he can only see vi āabandoningā jinx as the same betrayal that happened to him. when theyāre completely different. silcoās perspective on viās motivations and ābetrayalā could not be more inaccurate. it makes sense for him to believe that cuz again of his own trauma. but be fr rn he did not asses the situation correctly which is partly why jinx has such conflicting feelings on vi. yes silco was there for jinx, but not cuz vi abandoned her or bc vi was a terrible sister.
silco and vi both want what they think is best for jinx. what they think is best tho is completely incompatible. both of their perspectives are completely understandable and genuine. thatās why jinx feels this pull between the two of them. thatās what makes the dinner party scene so good. cuz neither of them are entirely in the wrong for believing what they do or for wanting what they do.
āsilco was right, vi chose caitlyn over jinxā
if this is abt s2 then just no. never cite s2 again when talking about vi. never. Not in my vi arcane.
And even in s1 jinx asking vi to shoot Caitlyn was unfair and messed up as crap. like ofc vi wasnāt gonna do that she has fricking moral compass. vi is put in an impossible position.
silco was right about how vi is still holding out hope that jinx can go back to being the same innocent powder she remembers AND CAN YOU BLAME HER?! she hasnāt seen her sister in 7 YEARS?! she only remembers powder. the memory of powder was the only thing getting her through those 7 years. yeah silco is correct in this assessment but it doesnāt make viās hope invalid or selfish, just wishful and optimistic. again, powder was the only thing keeping her going. cuz vi has been separated from the world and the cruel reality of it for 7 fucking years. silco and VIās perspective are both valid given their experiences.
āvi could never accept jinx, while silco loved jinx unconditionallyā
ok and thatās great parenting on a paper but is also lwk part of the problem cuz he enables all of jinxās messed up and self-destructive behaviors. his unconditional love overrides his capacity for good parenting and discipline. itās part of what makes their father-daughter relationship codependent and toxic. also vi loves and cares for her sister sm. but her sister becoming a murderer is an insane thing to ask of her to accept. like jinx does so many messed up things in s1. we the audience know why jinx is acting the way she is. but vi has every right to be disturbed by her. like could you imagine being kidnapped and separated from your little innocent sister for 7 years and then coming back and the first thing you see her do is shoot at people and giggle?? all out of her own volition?? I would be a bit taken aback too. It would be weird if vi wasnāt. And even after all of that vi doesnāt give up on her. she literally says āIām not going to abandon you againā (and do not fucking bring up s2 cuz that was NOT vi)
āvi created jinxā āno silco created jinxā
how tf is this still a discussion?? they both did and neither of them did. jinx was made from terrible circumstance. every single one of her life experiences contributes to who she became. her parents being murdered by enforcers. her living under systemic oppression. her childhood insecurity and feeling like she needed to prove herself to the group. vi encouraging her inventions. the incident. vi āabandoningā her. being raised by silco. killing silco. etc. there isnāt one event that āmakesā jinx.
anyway. viās hatred of silco is valid given her perspective. and silcoās beliefs also make sense given how messed up he is and they are genuine. but I never wanna see a silco fan hating on vi ever again.
#I say this as a certified silco enjoyer#this is abt pre s2 ofc back when the writers cared about being good and about vi#might need to make one of these abt vander too (ignoring s2 ofc)#arcane critical#arcane#silco#arcane silco#jinx#arcane league of legends#paracritical#arcane jinx#vi#arcane vi

S to Fā a tier list of how healthy a relationship would be with these different BSD characters
Content warning: mentions of toxic relationship, manipulation, death, minor Spoilers (akutagwas part but thereās a warning) etcā¦ this is also not edited at all.
Characters: Atsushi, odasaku, TetchÅ, Fukuzawa, Kunikida, Yasano, Ranpo, Gin, Chuuya, Higuchi, Edger Allen Poe, Sigma, Dazai, Akutagawa, Tachihara, Ango, Jouno, Mori, Fyodor, Nikolai.
A/N sorry if theres any writing mistakes in this, I wrote this for eight hours straight with an ear infection and like four hours of sleep, so if thereās a spelling error please tell me.
S tier:
Atsushi(heās shown to be very nice, always helping others, and in that one scene he bought a bunch of stuff for for koyaka to make her happy even though he didnāt have much money, he also help everyone without thinking and saves everyone despite their past EX: Koyaka)
Oda(Oda is shown to be a very kind person, whoās extremely kind Ex helping taking care of Dazai and watching over him, while having a strong moral compass, not wanting to kill anyone while having normal goals like wanting to be an author/wanting to wright, he also shows a lot of love for others, such as trusting Ango and jumping out a window and being completely ready to save the kids he was taking care of while before that making regular visit to them, probably one of the most normal people in the entire series. I donāt believe there would be many issues with him other than the fact he is dead. You could probably have a very healthy relationship with Oda.)
TetchÅ(TetchÅ is shown to have a lot of empathy and loyalty, such as when he stops Jouno from antagonizing Aya and when he fights Kenji so he can find Jouno to make sure he is alright. I honestly believe that TetchÅ is probably one of the most normal characters in this series as of now. Of course there are the normal issues that I will be bringing up again and again such as you probably wonāt be able to see him much etc etc, but relatively normal in my opinion. )
A tier:
Fukuzawa(Fukuzawa is shown to be someone that helps others and gives them a chance no matter what EX Ranpo and Yasano, But he is also a work alcoholic Ex that one scene that fukuchi said that Fukuzawa was still married to his work. It really depends on when you would start dating Fukuzawa but if it was earlier in life I believe he most likely would have broken up with you for his work(and also for you safety) but I think he would be on of the healthier options out of BSD cast)
Kunikida(other than Kunikidas long list of things he wants from his ideal women, I believe he would be a healthy partner. Kunikida is shown to on Multiple occasions to save multiple kids and risk his life, he also canonically makes sure to take care of Dazai and his other friends EX Katai. I honestly believe he would be a very caring person to date as long as you like a lot of plans and schedules.)
Yasano(I believe Yasano would be a very kind and caring person to date, though I believe she would be a bit of a handful at times, you would probably have to carry her bags around but I believe she would do anything to save you in a time of need, Yasano is shown to not be afraid to stand up to others EX that one scene where that one businessman was picking on her, asking if she what her job was and she said she was a doctor and she was about to break that manās hands. Yasano is also shown to care of others she is close to EX that one scene where Ranpo and herself are in one of Poeās books and she gives him her glasses to give him the motivation to solve the case in the book. I believe Yasanos love be more quiet but she would still make sure to show it.)
Ranpo(I believe there are many misconceptions about Ranpo, a lot of people mistake Ranpo as some super cocky at everything character, but they forget that Ranpo is not ashamed to say that he doesnāt know how to do things alone EX ride the train even though Ranpo is an adult and heās not afraid to admit he canāt go alone on the train or that heās not fit to be the boss of the ADA, he is only cocky in the means of his detective work, because he KNOWS heās good, heās not being cocky, heās stating a fact, because Ranpo IS better than everyone else when it comes to him deducing things. Though Ranpo does have a blunt and sometimes arrogant attitude he can admit his short comings, like admiring that he couldnāt figure out one of the cases he was doing, or when he was 14 he admitted that he didnāt understand others. I think he would be interesting to date but he could be slightly overwhelming at times because he may sort of lazy, but I believe he would respect anyone he was dating like he respects Fukuzawa or Yasano.)
Gin(probably out of the two Akutagawa siblings, the least affected by their trauma. There isnāt much about Gin that is known to the anime and I Havenāt watched the BSD wan in a while, but Gin Is a very kind person and you can see in I think the fourth or fifth season she protects everyone from herself when she lost control of her knife. over all when she is seen with akutagawa in that one scene (and including the episode where Higuchi is chasing after Gin) she seems to be overall quiet and respectful.)
B tier:
ChÅ«ya(ChÅ«ya is kinda of a mixed bag, on one hand, he is a red flag (I swear to god if I see one of those jokes where it like āChÅ«ya doesnāt have any flags, Iām going to find your house and beat you, Iām so sick of that joke, I see it in every comment section talking about ChÅ«ya, can we please get a knew joke BSD fandom, all the jokes we have are dead.) people often say ChÅ«ya is a red flag since he is in the mafia, which is Valid, which is why I have him so low, other than the fact that he is the mafia I believe ChÅ«ya would be in A tier maybe even S tier but I may be a little biased , but, excluding the fact ChÅ«ya is in the mafia, ChÅ«ya is probably one of the most loyal characters in the ENTIRE series, since it was exclusively said in Stormbringer that āMaster ChÅ«ya is the kind of person who will never abandon those who have helped him, even if they end up betraying. That is simply who he is.ā ChÅ«ya is the kind of person to keep a promise no matter what, ChÅ«ya is also said to be respectful to women, and from what we see from the show he is respectful to everyone but Dazai but Dazai purposely makes ChÅ«ya upset, so I donāt hold ChÅ«ya to blame. I see ChÅ«ya as a loyal and kind partner, and who would be pleasant to date if it werenāt for the fact that he was in the Port Mafia, so you would have to be in the mafia you to if you wanted the relationship to work. I do also see people say ChÅ«ya would be violent because ChÅ«ya is often shown to be angry, but, when ChÅ«ya is shown to be angry itās usually for a valid reason, such as Dazai insulting him, or for him to be put in a life or death situation, such as in Dead Apple, which most people would also do, since there is a risk for so many people dying or being around people that purposely try to make you angry. So I think ChÅ«ya is that bad to date if your ignore all the crimes, but everyone ignores Dazais crimes, so I think they can do the same for ChÅ«ya.
Higuchi(We havenāt seen to much of Higuchi in BSD, though I would like to, and it is a shame that we havenāt, from what I have scene in the anime, manga, and BSD Wan, I think Higuchi is somewhere in the B to C tier, though love her. The reason I place Higuchi so low is because of her intense jealousy around Akutagawa, someone she is not dating. It is seen In the first season that when she sees a women with Akutagawa (it was Gin, which she did not know at the time,) she gets extremely jealous, going as fare as to stalk the two of them and chase after Gin, which is very possessive. The loyalty of Higuchi is also seen in the first season when she does everything to for Akutagawa with zero regret and brushing it off as it just being her job. Higuchi would probably be a very loving and nice girlfriend to be with but a very possessive and jealous one, which isnāt the worst thing to be on this list, considering some of the other BSD characters. While researching this list, I remember how funny Higuchi can be, while partnering up with Atsushi to find how who the women Akutagawa is with she was very witty and she really funny to watch, along as in the wan she was also pretty funny.
Edger Allen Poe(Poe is a decent person, he is shown to be kind, ambitious, and smart, though he clearly thinks of himself less than Ranpo. Poe is a shy person which is shown clearly through out the anime and manga. Poe is arguably a red flag since he did try to kill Ranpo, but he does show some concern if Ranpo does die, so over all I think Poeās fine except his a little off his rockers sometimes, but whoās not anyway. I believe Poeās one of the characters that could date someone outside of his own job, but he is pretty shy, so I think you would have to be introduced to him in order for anything romantic to happen.
Sigma(I honestly think Sigma would be okay, but the main issues would be his A, his inexperience with life, I think he would be very stressed because he only has the memories of the past three years of his life and he really wouldnāt know what to do, and B, he is part of a criminal organization, which considering this list is pretty normal, since itās seems everyone in Bsd has at some point committed at least one minor war crime or killed at least one person. The main issue with Sigma being in a criminal organization is that Fyodor is there and if Fyodor knows about you youāre already dead and will probably be used to manipulate Sigma. Overall, Sigma as a person, though inexperienced would be an okay partner, but because of Fyodor dating him could be extremely risky for the both of you, so for the better, it would be better to have a unspoken close relationship that would only work if you worked closely to Sigma, but this would still inevitably be found out by Fyodor.)
C tier:
Dazai(Iām pretty sure this is a hot take, but, dating Dazai would not be that great, but before Dazai Stans come for me let me explain: Asagiri (the author of BSD) said that in what ever relationship Dazai was in he would manipulate them, so it is canon that he would be a little toxic, but looking at his other friendships, you can kinda see how he acts, heās a womenizer, flirting with pretty much anyone he sees and offering them a double suicide, he also doesnāt let anyone in on his past or his secrets and is overall distant. I believe Dazai would manipulate his partner so they donāt figure out about his past, and if they somehow do, I believe he would always keep them at arms length and you would have to be someone like Fyodor in order to figure him out and make him actually exspress himself, and I think if you could figure him out one of you would leave (because you deserve better) or Dazai feels threaded and he would find a way to manipulate you into breaking up the relationship for him or he would just disappear. But I donāt want that to discredit the fact that Dazai can be a a nice person, but everything nice about him has an equal and opposite amount of evil, which is the issue about Dazai, you would have to be able to tear him apart so you could get close to him, but he would always try to keep you away or you would have to be stupid enough to date him and think he truly loves you. I honestly think you would have to take up a caretaker role for Dazai and you wold have to have known him since his Port Mafia days and be able to corner him and dissect his character for him to let you be close with him, overall, toxic relationship.)
Akutagawa(canonically, I think Akutagawa would be hard to date, Akutagawa has been shown in the past to be violent and cold to others, at one point even hitting Haguchi in the first season, though. I believe Akutagawa has had character development since then, and has started to become kinder, I still believe Akutagawa has a lot of healing to do before he can ever have a healthy relationship with others. I do want to mention the fact that Akutagawa does have a heart, he did say he was happy for Koyoka, and MANGA SPOILERS he was assigned to take care of Aya after Bram died, so I believe we could see him heal more in the future of the show. MANGA SPOILERS DONE we have seen Akutagawa be able to work with others more, and better, so I do believe he will rise the ranks of this tier list soon.)
Tachihara(Tachihara is a pretty nice person that looked up to by some from what I have seen in the anime and manga, though he doesnāt have much screen time, but from I have seen, heās a really troubled person who is emotionally driven, he spends most of his life trying to get revenge against Yasano, and he often argues with Gin, though him arguing with others and acting all hard could have been part of the ruse he had been doing when he was a spy for the hunting dogs. Tachihara is a kind person though he has a lot of internal conflict, with the constant internal battle of if he was a hunting dog or a port mafia agent, though when does choose a side, he sticks to it. I believe Tachihara would be someone who would have trouble starting a romantic relationship do to his job, but the same goes for every port mafia agent of hunting dogs member. I believe Tachihara would be a protective partner, I believe this since you can see that Tachihara has dedicated his life to someone he loves dearly (his dead brother) that he would do the same for someone he truly loves.)
D tier:
Ango(I hate putting Ango here because I love him so much, but Iām not putting him here because I donāt like him, Iām putting him for other reason I will explain. I am putting Ango so low because of his job, I love Ango, as he is my favorite character in the entire show, but because of his job he often betrays people, and I believe he may carry a lot of guilt and shame for what he has done, which I believe is shown when he helps Dazai out of the port mafia, by erasing all his crimes. From what I can see Ango is a hard working government official who does care about others deeply and he struggles to not grow attached to people on his undercover missions Ex Dazai and Odasaku. I believe with Angos constant betrayals he would have many people after him and dating someone would only add more stress to him, and if someone he loved died again I believe he would never forgive himself and he would try to make up for what he did like he does Dazai. Like most of the other characters in this list I believe you would have to work with Ango in the government in order to have any relationship with him, since in any other circumstance he would most likely betray you. I donāt mean to display Ango as only a traitor, since heās not, you can see he is an actually kind and caring man, but he is often put in the position to make hard decisions, though when he helps Atsushi and Koyaka escape in season 4/5 you can see him choose the side that he knows is innocent and to work for his own personal motivations instead of a companyās.
Jouno(in the show Jouno is shown to be pretty sadistic, though he doesnāt join Fukuchi when he offer Jouno to help him, and instead chooses to help others, though he does torment Aya. So I do believe that Jouno is a good person but if you had to date him Iād say it would be difficult, especially with his job most likely keeping away from you for long if you donāt work with him, so I would say another character where you would have to work with him if you wanted to spend any time with him.)
(Weāre skipping E tier because everyone thatās going into F tier doesnāt deserve to be put at a higher letter like E. It also messes with my my color coordination system so Iām sorry if you love the letter E and I didnāt mention it.)
F tier:
Mori(the only way you meet this man is if he found you in the hospital nursery, no other words, the only reason people like him is because Bones(the studio that animates BSD currently) gives him pretty privileges instead of Fyodor, though for the three people that actually find his character cool because of his past are chill, but still, Mori isnāt some hot mafia boss, heās legit a manipulative pedophile, the only reason Mori is ever good is if he can be used for the plot.)
Fyodor(Fyodor may have a nice voice and he may be attractive but donāt let that distract you, that man will kill you. He will ruin your life and make you depend on him (Iām taking that from the fact that during the prison arc he told Dazai to do that.) Fyodor would most likely use you for everything you were worth or keep you around because heās fractionated by you, in the best case you are as smart as Fyodor so you can entertain him, any other way your probably going to get killed petty quickly by him since for most people he doesnāt show much care or interest in except for Dazai since Dazai entertains him, and and any other person he just uses Ex Nikolai or sigma.)
Nikolai(Nikolai would most likely have an unhealthily obsession with you and then kill you, in the show it states that he wants to kill things he loves because he wants them to be free. I would say Nikolai has a good heart but he also is Insane, heās done some of the most graphic kills in the show, but he does show sadness when he think Fyodor died, so he has some empathy but if you were to date him your gonna have a nice knew head piecing with a 15 caliber built in your skull.)
āāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāāā
(PS: donāt let this discourage you from reading/writing fanfics about characters, Iām not doing this to hate Iām just showing what I think it would be like in cannon, but in fanfiction I think itās fine to change things about character (EX making Dazai not manipulate reader) to show how much the character loves reader. This isnāt serious by any means or meant to hate on your favs, again, please donāt send me death threats<3.)

Why Octonauts and the caves of Sac Actun is Barnaclesā character at its best!!
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/06bde6b509c2f3e5fe41d32108d6a104/209c39ecb5e41b7f-16/s540x810/59a436e018f836d277eb167538ce96d9dcece9a8.jpg)
This thread might be jumbled and not well organized Iām writing this on a whim, sorryy
As we know, Captain Barnacles is the brave Polar Bear leader of the Octonauts. Heās always put others before himself no matter what, he never let himself be weak around his team.
Even in moments where he was needing bed rest (Cone Snail) (Jellyfish bloom) he still found some sort of way to help. Throughout the entire series however, the only time he showed genuine fear (that Iāve seen) was in the Great Arctic Adventure:
And that was when his sister, Bianca and her cubs were swept up under a wave, but even then he didnāt dare hesitate and he swam like hell to get them into the GUP-A and steer the octopod above water.
Even here in Sac Actun when the GUP H crashes and Pesoās parachute doesnāt work, Barnacles immediately holds him and moves himself out of the path of the GUP H as it falls.
Even when he loses his Octo-Compass and canāt call anyone for help, he doesnāt give up, he and Peso follow some birds and they carry Coba over to a cenote.
Okay Iām not gonna do a play by play lol but what Iām trying to say is, nothing really presses Captain Barnacles to worry until he realizes he has to go through a cave to get Coba to the Caribbean Sea.
But even THEN after he sees how sad Coba is he still goes. He doesnāt bring up anything besides the fact that cave diving is extremely dangerous, especially since they donāt have the proper equipment (they actually almost run out of oxygen later in the movie and Peso cracks his helmet not too long after they get inside)
Throughout the movie, Barnacles has a different vibe about him, heās usually infront of everyone on missions, heās incredibly focused and as the captain heās giving orders or suggestions.
Heās still pretty open and friendly as he usually is but the further they go in the quieter he gets, but Peso is pretty good at bringing him back without thinking.
And even when Peso expresses fear Barnacles, as he always has, gently brings him down to earth, even helping him fix his cracked helmet. And when Peso apologizes he tells him not to worry and to keep calm.
However, at one point Captain Barnacles gets stuck in a hole and acts very āout of characterā and starts panicking and literally begs peso to pull him out, which is very, very rare for him.
And thatās when he finally comes forward about his experiences with getting stuck after ice collapsed beneath him as a cub and getting stuck for a long time.
And Peso, honestly the other MVP of this movie in his caring heart tells Captain Barnacles that heāll be brave for him and this time asks his friend to follow him.
Honestly Iāll give Octonauts this, I donāt know any movie for pre-schoolers that tackles things like this. Of course, they touch on fears, but they always tell you to be brave. But as Captain Barnacles says: āYou canāt be brave if youāre not afraid first.ā
And itās true! No one is truly brave without experiencing fear, the bravest people ever once cried for someone to hold them or save them when they were scared.
Even if Barnacles hasnāt explicitly said it, I feel like his experiences with helplessness, along with being raised as a polar scout, pushed him into learning to be brave and kind as he is now.
Bravery with the presence of fear is called courage. And thatās something Barnacles learns in this movie. Thanks to Peso of course.
In a later scene, Barnacles has to push a boulder thatās caught in a tight squeeze to help Coba, he hesitates but on the other side, his crew, his dearest freinds are cheering him on. And at this moment, he puts his fears aside, to complete his mission, but especially To help Coba.
And he pushes himself through the tight tunnel and shoves the boulder out with his polar bear strength. letting Coba and himself out. And he thanks the group for their help and Peso reiterates: āYouāve always helped us be brave, and we will always help you too!ā
In a lesser movie, they wouldāve made fun of Barnacles, or have his fear last for like 5 minutes, he might have gotten over it by the end, but thatās not really clear.
In later media his fear isnāt ever bought up so Iām assuming heās over it(?) but it wasnāt bought up in previous episodes of the show. (Even in situations that would trigger it)
But in any case, Iāve never seen a preschool show respectfully and thoughtfully talk about trauma and how to help people with it Of course it doesnāt go too terribly deep into it, but imo, it doesnāt need to. Acknowledging it and having characters show support is a very good way to get that conversation started.
Now, as for Captain Barnacles himself, I believe this is him at his best because for once, heās vulnerable, and he can truly trust the other Octonauts. He already could, but that was with handling other creatures or taking care of missions, but here? He trusts them with his fear, he trusts them by letting his guard down around him, and they stay with him and stay patient, even Kwazii who almost never has patience already knew about his claustrophobia beforehand, indicating that Barnacles has told him before.
Barnacles is able to feel completely comfortable. And thatās because he is a good leader to the Octonauts, heās gentle with Peso and his fears, never once has he lost his patience with anyone, so why would they do that to him? When heās always been a safe place for them. for the Octonauts, whether itās by protecting them from danger or giving them a pep talk.
Another thing I really love about Sac Actun (And all the Octonauts movies in general tbh) is how, they add to the animation, the backgrounds are notre thurough and the lighting is very pretty, the characters are more expressive.
But they donāt change the art style. Infact, they embrace the art style the show already has, they add to it, the characters move more they express more, but they donāt add little bitty gritty details like fur, nothing wrong with movies doing that.
But I like that they take advantage of the new budget while also sticking to what made the original so lovable.
I donāt know how else to say it I just REALLY love this Netflix special, PLEASE watch it!!!
#octonauts#captain barnacles#sac actun#mooshie rambles#and I mean REALLY rambles lmao#I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH GUHGHH

Talking with @respectthepetty about the finale, and I think I've figured out my biggest sticking point.
We see the incredible care and love that Kan shows his patients, and Tew's mom in particular. We see him ask her for confirmation multiple times. He brushes her hair, asks her if she has any worries, promises to take care of Tew for her.
He calls her Mom. She cradles his cheek. He sits with her while she falls asleep.
We see this scene play out, we feel Kan's compassion for her, we feel his need to help.
And when he and Tew have their confrontation, he says all of this. He talks about how much it hurts to see people struggle with unbearable pain, how the system doesn't care about how well or how poorly people are living, doesn't care about what people want for their life. He gives an impassioned defense of the need for euthanasia to be made legal.
He tells Tew that his mother died the way she wanted to, that she passed peacefully and on her terms. He tells him that she wanted him to be happy.
And we don't see Tew truly understand any of that. We don't get to see him even really process any of it.
I didn't need or expect Tew to become a supporter of euthanasia, or to even fully forgive and understand what Kan did and why he did it. But it seems like what we got instead was Tew accepting his feelings for Kan, and acknowledging that.
So that "I love you" felt... Misplaced.
What good does a confession do when you've got the man you're in love with handcuffed, on your way to turn him into the police.
(The confrontation itself was beautifully done and it hurt all my feelings. But I'm not sure it was in the right place? There was no room to see them struggling with and processing it. Kan's sad nod of acknowledgement and no response was the correct response, but it was also mine, quick I think is not the desired effect.)
Also, Kan volunteerimg to turn himself in, without arguing for his patients who need him -- in his hospital that is desperately short staffed, in which he is the only palliative care doctor; a point that has been made over and over in the series -- also felt off.
I would've been happier with an ambiguous ending, maybe even the exact same one, where we didn't see the cuffs, and weren't sure what was next for them.
(from my understanding, this is basically the opposite of the source material? There's also the comments from the screenwriter that have kind of left an annoyed filter over all my thoughts about the show, but I digress)
Honestly, I may have been okay(er) with the outcome if we had had more of their relationship development on screen, more of them trying to understand each other (that felt very one sided in the end).
Idk.
The show was beautiful, beautifully acted, and had some very important things to say, and it made its arguments well considering the lines they had to tow. But the politics and the moral struggle of the show were embodied in Kan and Tew, and the culmination of that struggle feels like it wasn't given enough space.
#maybe a little too negative to tag?#i think i would've been 90% happy if we just didn't see the handcuffs honestly#if we were just left to question what's next#*incoherent screaming*

suga
on cam
restrains himself more. much more careful and conscious over what he displays; a great case of show the best, hide the rest. i keep sensing his virgo moon here, he just wants to manage his image closely and make sure it remains clean. does allow himself to break out of that shell sometimes, and lets out his more playful and fiery side. very free-thinking, independent. just wants to do his own thing. much brighter and higher spirits on cam than off cam.
off cam
stubborn and self-focused. finance-oriented; stable and good at dealing with that part of his life. puts a lot of importance and value into material matters. can have some gluttonous tendencies, where he just gets insatiable; ariana grande's seven rings āi want it i got it.ā vibe. increeedibly ambitious. if he sets his mind to something, it is going to happen. logical and rational. also extremely intelligent and smart. good luck trying to outsmart yoongi. doesn't bother to sugarcoat his words, very direct and honest in his expression. prefers and values the harsh truth, head over heart.
j-hope
on cam
masculine, passionate and strong, just has this quietly powerful and authoritative presence that demands attention. but at the same time gentle, balanced; a pleasant and agreeable aura. presents himself as this continuous student, someone who's very eager to expand his knowledge and skills in his career. consistent, stable, humble and self-aware. good at dealing with criticism. someone you just enjoy being around, he creates emotional connections with ease and makes everyone feel comfortable. big heart.
off cam
very focused on his group. like he loves these boys dearly. much more in tune with his feminine side; a soft, empathetic and nurturing soul. might be the hidden mother of the group lol. in tune with his emotions. doesn't shy away from expressing his feelings. so much more romantic and dreamy too. i feel like he cries a lot behind the scenes, especially about sappy and little sentimental things. very charming and idealistic. but also immensely hard-working. type to put in even more effort when no one's looking.
namjoon
on cam
confident and inspiring. so so much passion. brings a sense of warmth to his surroundings, and has an encouraging and uplifting effect on the people he's with. carries a lot of wisdom with him, so much good advice to give. knowledgable and mature for his age. like an old soul. very introspective, deeply reflects on his actions and his behavior. good at bonding with people and offering this sense of comfort, support and emotional understanding. loves in a profound way.
off cam
solid and stable. level-headed. a lot of focus on tangible achievements and practicality. ālet's get this work doneā. much more self-sacrificial than one would think. not as stubborn as it might appear, quite adaptable and open to opinions different to him. however, rub this man the wrong way somehow, he can get incredibly rigid pretty quickly. ācut the bullshit, deadass.ā is what i heard, lmao. he doesn't like people who are too blinded by their emotions, and too delusional all the time; he can't deal with emotional immaturity. very fact-based and rational in that sense.
taehyung
on cam
a lot of contentment and abundance in the way he presents himself. like he just gives off this expensive aura, and seems pretty satisfied with himself. kinda snug and prideful. knows what he is and what he can do for people, and radiates that self-assurance and confidence to the outside. i can tell it just makes him very attractive to people. mature, in control of his emotions. calm and collected. he just looks like he knows what he's doing all the time. very complex too, someone who just adds depth and flavour to everything he does.
off cam
talks and speaks up much more. very clever and quick-witted. mentally agile and savvy. observant and detail-oriented. isn't afraid to stand his ground and voice his opinion when he needs to. he makes things look very easy and effortless, but in reality, he puts a lot of effort and hard work into all of his endeavours. responsible. can get burdened and overwhelmed more than you think. impatient tendencies. can get scared of change, but also doesn't wanna stay stuck; can have problems balancing out these two clashing sides in him. i always feel how being a capricorn stellium with an impulsive and rash aries moon must be quite exhausting sometimes.
jimin
on cam
balanced and gentle aura. sweet and diplomatic. someone who encourages a peaceful and harmonious environment. very much a libra. he has huge duality, where he can go from this happy go-lucky and bright smiled sunshine, to a dark and sensual devil (card that come out) that just gazes holes into your soul. i think he bases a lot of his image on his performances, i keep seeing him on stage in my minds eye. loves letting out and transitioning into his scorpionic (his venus+mars placement), sexy and mysterious energy whenever he's on stage. almost like he plays a role and fools people. loves to stand out among the crowd. can get very competitive and greedy too, in terms of his performances. (the energy was crazy intense here?)
off cam
much more laidback. outgoing and sociable, enjoys meeting up and going to parties. good at making friends and networking. more comfortable and slow-moving. more pragmatic than one would think as well. not nearly as soft and sensitive. can be more confident and self-assured than what meets the eye. but can get emotional out of nowhere though, kinda unpredictable with his feelings. his energy is just very fickle, but at the same time intense. he's either completely loyal to you, sticks by you through everything, or doesn't give two cents about you, honestly lmaooo :')
jungkook
on cam
humble, an eternal student. always trying to improve, expand his horizon. more youthful and bright in spirit. extremely driven and determined; if jk sets his mind to something, no one can hold him back from getting it. very much obsessive in that way. holds a lot of love in his heart, is gentle and careful in the way he treats people. there's some femininity here too. he might have this more sensual image in people's eyes. people enjoy his company because it's very calm and chill, drama free. mostly quiet and reserved. doesn't insert himself into any conflict intentionally and stays out of it.
off cam
surprise surprise - hugely perfectionistic. even obsesses over managing his image behind the scenes. very eager to keep it as flawless as possible. i heard āa dream to work withā though. someone who loves to collaborate, enjoys learning from other people. very committed and dedicated to quality at his work. always focused on doing the right thing; well-established manners and strong morals. likes connecting to people on an emotional level; moreso needs it. more sensitive than one would expect. can also get immensely greedy sometimes; this is where i see his dilemma. he's always yearning to reach the highest level work-wise; but can easily feel dissatisfied and unfulfilled. he doesn't enjoy fame, but at the same time can't do without it. i heard āthe only thing i'm good atā jk is the type to think he's not good at something if he isn't at level 10 right away. he's always looking to do more and more; very prone to burning himself out badly because of his extreme ambition.
note; mister jeon always has so much to say, phew.

SYDNEY'S PART
THE ANALOGY OF THE PARTNER WITH ADDICTION
I just realized this parallel, and I have questions and feelings.
This second scene was one of the most frustrating moments for me, and that is saying a lot. It made me realize the crucial factor that could contribute to Sydcarmy not working despite the underlying feelings and connection.
The scene is obviously about how Sydeny feels guilty for not being able to stand to Carmy and make him stop the chaos. Maybe is also about feeling sad because she doesn't think that he wants to change for her, because if that were the case, he would have done it already. He has verbalized that intention and always, always, leaves her alone and behind (It is hard to keep with you sometimes).
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/029d5b2459ac127c932bd12616e3c22d/7615f4dc19025a44-2a/s500x750/00c8489a525e3f6fa463457ef469202c29d26972.jpg)
I have been wrestling with the theory that Carmy's and Syd's relationship is acting as an analogy for an addict and their romantic partner. I have been reading this book: Loving someone in recovery. I still need to finish it, but it has given me some ideas. More extended meta-analyses on this subject are coming up. But I wanna concentrate on what the scene is hitting at (I miss ao3).
Notice in Brigade, the woman also says, "until the chemistry changes.", then in the very next scene, you have Sydney decipher a recipe just by chemistry logic, leaving Carmy impressed, and right after, carmy puts Sydney in charge of the restaurant. The clues are all there.
Also, notice how the woman at AA refers to the abuse of substances, but in Carmy's case, it also means abuse in the literal sense, verbal, psychological, and physical abuse.
The show has many scenes in which Sydney treats Carmy's issues with compassion and a firm hand.
"I don't want to be an asshole" "Don't be" aka: I know you know what is right and wrong despite feeling like shit, don't let it get over you.
She keeps her cool while Carmy makes impossible demands and screams. She helps Tina with her dish and completes the task without ever insulting or yelling back at anybody. The toxic techniques that Carmy learned that worked in the culinary industry, she refuses to accept as the norm. She is a chef Terry.
Finding the positive in the worst circumstances, aka, saying Cicero "You are here" or encouraging Richie and the staff. Even reviewing Carmy's recipes with patience and humor
"Is hard to keep with you sometimes' is key word hereĀ sometimes, aka: "because the problem is your issues, not you. You are a good person who is deeply hurting, but your actions have consequences for me and the people around you".
The thing is, if we are gonna talk about a partner with addiction, we need to establish the problem (the trauma) and the drugs. I remember watching a movie about addiction, a nurse saying, "Drugs are never the problem (for an addict), they are the solution.
So, the problem (the trauma)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/906befee77b20ae4ff5e052a8c00b6c2/7615f4dc19025a44-d1/s400x600/343d697b78f27e3c7f8f9c5d69b1c684a4658d5c.jpg)

The drug (solution)
You already know my theory that Claire is the equivalent of painkillers/anesthesia. A shallow but pleasing relationship that is always available to attend to your flaws without ever being actual medicine. Because to get better, painkillers are never enough.
BACK TO SYD
Syd really doesn't believe she has a say in what Carmy wants, (God she even believes she is not what Carmy wants, because he wants Claire, that is what it seems to her) just right before this dialogue, she asks him "Do you want me to say something?", from reading the book, it really reminded me of a partner feeling abandoned when the addict would resource to their drug of use to feel good or set back to old habits. That would leave the partner frustrated, depressed, and angry.
To be fair, the fact that Carmy is his boss should be added to the equation. They cannot even be called friends, so why should Sydney say something? Carmy is 24/7 in defense mode, saying things like "You don't have to say it, I already know."
He offered Syd equal partnership, but she didnāt get it. If they had been equal partners she definitely has the power to say something. But she didnāt take the offer, maybe because she suspected (or feared) they would never be on equal ground.
THE KEY QUESTION IS, WHAT DOES SYDNEY SAY?
I am genuinely curious about this. Is Syd (or her leaving) supposed to be a wake-up call to Carmy? That he fucked up something that brought him genuine joy and connection because Syd knew the real him, while Claire liked Logan and Carmy's brokenness? The way Claire would enable him in his bad tendencies? How is he gonna realize all that?
Sydney needs more emotional resources when it comes to conflict resolution. So far, her techniques have been using patience and love (water) against toxicity and bad patterns (fire). There is definitely a need for that. That is what turned everybody around and helped them become their best selves. But it has a toll. And she started the season with "I don't know what the fuck to do right now" and ended the season without a solution. Maybe walking away is the solution.
SYDNEY'S PART
What could this mean for Syd? Sydney may confront Carmy or not. I guess we will have to see.

watching daredevil s3 and i found it odd in the flashback scene that karen, who had an experience with addiction in the past, couldn't approach matt's vigilantism with a bit more empathy. idk it just feels kinda out of character they made her react that way, saying "you certainly sound like an addict' with a judgemental tone. they really made karen and foggy hit the audience over the head with their treatment of matt like an addict and it just feels icky.
especially when compared to how karen reacts to anything frank does with softness and compassion even when frank repeatedly pushes her away like matt does, isn't that a bit unfair?
Get ready for another long post folks
I understand what you're saying here, and honestly I think you're right in some ways. I think it goes back to what I was saying earlier about Karen being flawed. She's not perfect. Like Matt, she can be a hypocrite at times. She can also lash out in anger and judgement. That's just a very human thingāand also, something that Matt does consistently through the series. They're all people, they're all flawed, they're all blind (no pun intended) to their own hypocrisies and faults.
Also, and this is just my personal opinion, but I think she's also reacting that way because she's an addict. She has experience with what it's like; she knows how damaging and difficult it can be. And with Karen, when she finds out that Matt's Daredevil, she's already poised to see it as a bad thing. He gets beaten to shit on the daily, has countless near-death experiences, and literally puts his personal life on hold and lets everything fall apart in service of his alter ego. Which, to be clear, is definitely something that Matt needs to doāhe has to be Daredevil. He can't hear the things he hears and not suit up. So it makes sense that he has to sacrifice so much of his personal life.
But at the time that Karen finds out about Matt being Daredevil, Matt has not yet learned how to balance his work and personal life. They even make a joke about that at the end of season 3. (Karen: "You're going to move back into Matt Murdock's apartment?" Matt: "Yeah, yeah. I just figured he has a healthier life-work balance.") At the time Karen learns the truth, DD has taken over Matt's life and screwed everything up. Not to mention everything that happened with Elektra and the terrible position that put Karen in. He literally had an emotional affair with her, and Karen sees her in his bed and never gets an explanation. For all she knows, Matt fully cheated on her while in his DD persona.
And then there's the fact that Matt literally told Karen "I don't need him to be a part of me anymore. And I don't want him to be." Matt himself, at the time of The Defenders, is trying to let go of Daredevil. We as the audience know that it's a terrible idea, but Matt mistakenly believes that giving up DD will fix his life. The way The Defenders is written, it seems as though Matt has asked for Karen and Foggy's help in giving up DD. So of course they're both frustrated when Matt takes up the suit again; not because they think it's bad, but because Matt himself has framed DD as an addiction and has told them he wants to give it up. They're frustrated at Matt for his flip flopping, his "relapsing" if you will. Sure, they should be more compassionate. That's absolutely true. But Karen and Foggy are only human; and after seeing the way that DD has torn Matt's life to shreds (and their lives too!), it makes sense that they're frustrated with him.
The other thing is, the show itself is absolutely framing the DD persona as an addiction, from the very beginning of season 1. By the end of season 3 (and probably in the scrapped seasons 4 and 5, we'll see what Born Again will do) Matt has learned to balance the lawyer and the vigilante; his violence becomes something he can control. He's learned to walk that tightrope. However, at the very beginning of the show, it's clear that Matt's violence controls him. In that first monologue in the confessional, when Matt talks about "letting the Devil out," he's talking about the addictive power of violence. You also see it in episode 2 when he's torturing that Russian and he says "It's not just the boy. I'm doing this because I enjoy it."
All of this really comes to a head in season 2; Frank Castle points it out. He says "I think you and me are the same" and he says "You're one bad day away from being me." Because one of the core struggles of Daredevil, both as a show and as a character, is between the use of violence to prevent harm, and the use of violence as vengeance/emotional release. And despite Matt's moral grandstanding, he consistently veers into the latter. He never crosses the line into murder, but his violence is Matt's way of releasing the anger inside himāof "letting the Devil out." And that, frankly, is addictive for him. It's why it is so difficult for him to refrain from killing Fisk at the end of season 3. The emotional release of extreme violence, especially under ethically and morally justifiable circumstances, is very difficult for him to resist. It's in that last episode of season 3 that he really overcomes this, and realizes he can control the Devil inside him, rather than the other way around.
All this is to say, the show frames Matt's violence/DD persona as an addiction, and his arc is focused on overcoming this and finding a balance. So for Karen, who has a canon background of addiction, it makes sense that she reacts the way she does. She has little patience for him because a) she's human and flawed, and b) she knows what addiction did to her and her family, and she's scared what it will do for Matt (and Foggy and herself), and it causes her to lash out at him.
As for your point about the way she treats Frank Castle, I think it comes down to the fact that Frank is usually honest with her. Karen very vocally disapproves of what Frank does and all his methods, but she knows that he's honest with her, so she can meet him where he's at and they can go from there. Matt, meanwhile, has spent their whole relationship being deceptive and hiding things constantly (and yes, obviously he had good reasons for that, but it doesn't change the fact that it's very shitty for Karen to have to deal with). Frank doesn't have the same problem with work/life balance; he doesn't have two different identities. He doesn't hide and he doesn't lie in the same ways that Matt does. So I think it's fair for Karen to be mad at Matt for a while. After everything that went downāafter Matt spent their entire relationship lying, tanked the law firm, destroyed his own life, and not to mention the whole Elektra debacle, all of this while they were datingāno wonder Karen's upset. She'd have to be a literal saint not to be!
There's also a lot to be said about Matt/Elektra and Karen/Frank being parallels to each other in the way that those relationships play out, but that's a topic for another day.
Anyway, I don't know how I've become the Karen Page Defense blog, but I'm not complaining lol.

Finished Rivalsā¦ have things to sayā¦
Spoilers obvs āā>
Eeeeeeeeekkkkkk!
If you go into this show knowing itās gonna be big, bold, brash, and unapologetic about being those things, youāll have a great time!
The hair, the costumes, the music (oh god, the music - who stole my playlist?!), the cast - just everything is dialled up to 200% and if you dare to question āis it good though?ā it just shrugs and cuts to another sex montage.
Letās be honest, I came (ahem) for David Tennant, but honestly, I stayed for so much more. He is brilliant of course, he always is, and his ability to capture the exact centre of a Venn diagram of pathetic and evil is unmatched - nobody does it like he does. He draws sympathy for a truly awful character, and certainly made me headbutt a wall a few times wondering how Tony kept making such terrible decisions. (Also if someone could supply a montage of him shouting fuck with full passion Iād be very grateful) - as he got more pathetic I honestly couldnāt resist him. His destruction of the Declan set is one of the most laughably pathetic things Iāve ever seen and I was almost crying watching it.
Meanwhile, theyāre bending over backwards to make us like Rupert and I just canāt do it. He also makes lots of terrible decisions (mostly with his dick of course) and for me it undermines the apparent āhe loves Taggieā thing. I just wish heād go home and play with his dogs.
(Also Gertrude is my favourite character, just the best dog!)
Shout out to Victoria Smurfit who knocks it out of the park as Maud - she has some of the best line deliveries in the whole show, particularly as she prepares to leave for London and resume her career.
But honestly, my heart belongs to Freddy and Lizzie. If youād told me Iād be grinning with happiness, with tears in my eyes, for a sex scene between Danny Dyer and Katherine Parkinson before I started watching this, Iād have called a doctor for you, but thatās the truth. They are spectacular and I adored them. Iāve never been a fan of Danny before, but he completely seduced me here, and I already loved Katherine (IT Crowd fans in our house) - but between them, they supplied the real ārooting for themā heart of the series. I want to see them together in everything now!
Back to DT - the top tier irony of having his character win his first BAFTA and then have him clubbed over the head with itā¦ priceless, and I personally suggest the academy honour him with a long overdue nod for this role simply in order to see him receive it with trepidation in case he gets bludgeoned with it. It even beat the joyous irony of Tony being all true blue and Tory afterā¦ well everything that went down this summer!
(Also, the way Tony passed the award to Cameron as they collected it made me think that if David had won this year for Crowley, heād have absolutely asked Michael up on stage to give it to him because Aziraphale should share it)
And lastlyā¦ Love is a Battlefield is an excellent song, but I will never be able to listen to it again now. Oh pathetic-evil DT characters, please stop wobbling my moral compass (sorry, Iām writing Kilgrave fanfic right now so Iām all over the place in terms of right and wrong)
Anyway, it was great fun and Iāve told everyone to watch it, 80s references bingo cards at the ready!
#rivals#rivals spoilers#seriously spoiler central here#donāt click on the cut if you havenāt finished#tony baddingham#david tennant#danny dyer#katherine parkinson#and everyone else#but mostly these three

Carmy had an anxiety attack and Sydney stopped it
The Bear | 3x3 | Hands
Let us not overlook the fact that this season Miss Adamu ALSO reverted another one of his attacks, just because we focus on her girlboss speech. OK? The girl bossing is great, sure, but that's not the point.
The point is that Carmy was having a stress-induced anxiety attack in the middle of service, which given S2 eps 9 and 10, was bound to happen this season, of course. And Syd stopped it. Very Sydcarmy material, IK. THAT IS THE POINT. But the B side of that point is that so far I saw NO ONE on Tumblr focusing on that part of this scene, unfortunately. Please make my day and correct me if I'm wrong. Show me a post where this guy is showed some compassion when analyzing this scene, and not a post just cheering up on her girlboss one-liner and butch-femme energy. It's like no one cares. Don't get me wrong, I'm ALL ABOUT that girlboss vibe too, one thing doesn't cancel the other one out in my book. But go ahead, show me that post that highlights his anxiety attack too when meta-analyzing that scene, I haven't found it yet. I'm not gonna lie, because of course I prefer to be right than popular: It pains me and infuriates me in equal measure that just because we all love Syd, some people seem to think that's some sort of license to completely disregard Carmy's mental health deprecating by the minute throughout the entire season, in a rather painfully obvious way, since he got out of that walk-in.
Anyway... Moving on. There's more.
Her words or even energy were not what calmed him down and prompted him to get out of the anxiety attack zone and collect himself, it was looking at her eyes. They locked eyes, held their gazes, and only then he was finally able to get it together. In that order, as can be clearly seen in the vid above. Itās the order what matters, he calmed down AFTER locking eyes for a moment, you can see the shift in his energy not as she was telling him she couldnāt babysitter him but AFTER looking at her with piercing eyes for a sec.
Anxiety attacks and panic attacks are not the same. I encourage you to do the research because if you really care you will and this post is not supposed to be educational, I'm not in the mood for that today, this post is cathartic for me. What I will say though is that patients with panic attacks also suffer from anxiety and can also have anxiety attacks. Some even find it hard to differentiate one from the other. Professionals don't. The difference is quite clear: The build-up, the symptoms, the intensity, the duration, etc. Carmy is a C-PTSD textbook case.
The stressor that triggered his anxiety attack this time around was the lack of HANDS, which can also be a metaphor for the lack of help Carmy gets. Syd is pretty much the only one who really helps him. Ever. He's surrounded by people, yet very alone. Granted, he's not the best at asking for help, and he's not the best leader either, and there's only so much Nat can do being in her 3rd trimester and all, etc, so like I said, it was bound to happen to him, and it did, and when it did, Syd put out the fire with her presence and her calm.
She didn't patronize him, he's not a victim around her, he's just himself. He's certainly not cool-relaxed Logan either, she's not his babysitter, and she's just as stressed out as he is, but she compensated his lack of temperance with her peace firmness, and he responded to it. Because even in the middle of an anxiety attack, Carmy never gets his eyes off the prize. HE HAS TO WIN THAT STAR FOR HER, NO MATTER THE COST ā She's his star.
Let us please also notice the fact that the C person MADE YET ANOTHER APPEARANCE IN THE MIST OF HIS ATTACK. That's the guilt I mentioned HERE, eating him away inside and causing him apprehension in the least convenient moment because once an anxiety attack strikes, your defenses are down and whatever you are trying to bury deep down your psyche comes up full force. So she keeps contributing to his anxiety even when they're not even together anymore. Classic.
He also thought about the other source of guilt that is eating him away, his fallout with Richie and how his Cousin didn't forgive him yet, even when he apologized to him and told him he loved him.
Another stressor: GUILT.
OK. Thanks for coming to my TED talk about how Syd calms Carmy the fuck down every single time and I need him to do the same for her in the hallway in 04x01 and return the favor, or I will set FX on fire. Because in case you didn't notice, this post was actually about THAT.
Bonus track: To calm down he willingly tried to think of things and people that bring him peace, and not only he definitely didn't think of C at that moment, he thought of Nat, of his time in CA and in Copenhagen, and this time around HE DID NOT ALLOW HIMSELF TO THINK ABOUT SYD, WHO HE KNEW WOULD HAVE ENDED THE EPISODE ON THE SPOT. He deliberately didn't. But she showed up and did the trick anyway:

was working on my wip and realised this scene is so wolfstar coded so ummm here ya go (sorry in advance for the awful translation lol)
also this is veeery long so i'm putting most of it under the cut
tw: mention of death, harsh(ish) lenguage
ā
"Then came the ambulance and the police,ā he murmurs, his eyes fixed somewhere in the room, mind showing him once again the image of Sirius' tired smile. "They gave me a blanket. I felt stupid in it."
John, observing him with deep eyes, full of compassion, nods. Remus figures he can't show it, the pity. That it's part of his job not being able to say Oh, you poor thing and that, instead, he must be professional. And it's not that John is bad at it, at hiding what he thinks; it's just the eyes.
It's impossible to lie with one's eyes. Sirius' always shine, even if he insists on wearing the blackest clothes.
Shined. Not anymore. And he doesn't dress in black anymore, it's Remus who has to mourn now, instead of him. And for him.
"How are you feeling?" the psychologist asks, and Remus makes an effort not to cry.
"I don't know," he answers, honest. He doesn't know what words to use. "Bad."
Not enough. John gestures at him to keep talking, to elaborate. He always does that. It's cruel.
Remus looks down at a ring he takes off his finger, and proceeds to watch it turn in his hands as he fidgets with it. It was Sirius'. Everything he owns was either his or reminds him of him in some way. Even the smallest of things, the silliest of details.
If only he could get rid of it all. If only he knew that'd make him forget.
"It's like I don't really believe this is real,ā he says, without lifting his gaze from the steel ring. It's carved in a checkered pattern, a chess board that extends and hugs the owner's finger like a ribbon. It's not excessively visible but, if you brush your finger against the metal, you can feel the shapes against your skin, kissing your fingertips like he once did. That feels like so long ago, though. āI... I'm sad, obviously, but also angry. I think it was selfish of him."
Before it had been his, Sirius', the ring had belonged to Regulus. It had been silver then. Sirius turned it into steel when he'd received it from his brother, who got it from their father, whose father had gifted him it, and so on. It must be hundreds of years old.
"Selfish?"
He'll probably ask to be buried with it. If it's not worn on his left hand, it will be trapped on a chain around his neck.
"Yeah, I dunno," he shrugs. He doesn't know how to explain himself. He knows how he feels, he just finds it difficult to believe that anyone could understand it. He tries anyway. "He's gone and he's left us all here as if we didn't have enough problems of our own," he says. "Like, now I have to be myself, which is already tough enough, and also be him for James and Peter and Harry and... Oh, God, Harry..." He shuts his eyes. He needs to breathe. He closes his hand over the ring, and looks at John. "But I need him too. And I don't have him. I don't have anyone to treat me like he did. So, I don't know."
The therapist nods again. When he started the sessions, Remus thought it was weird that John didn't take any notes, like in the movies. It might sound stupid, but he imagined someone constantly writing on a notepad, making a record of every word that came out of his mouth.
It turns out John only uses his notebook to write dates and appointments down; that he actually listens to what he says, instead of analysing every sentence as if it were a mathematical problem.
He's been lucky, and he knows it. At least in this, he's been lucky.
"Do you feel responsible for what happened?" He asks, and Remus thinks about it for a second. Now that the unease has lessened, he's left with just the cold on the tip of his nose and the metal on his fingers. He misses hugging Sirius on cold days like this one.
"Yes," he answers. No point in lying.
John stares at him. Elaborate, he's probably thinking. He always looks at him like that when he wants to make Remus talk.
"I'm the one who was supposed to take care of him," he says then. "And, instead of that, what I did was use him to make him help me with my shit. And even after he's gone I'm still whining about him not being here to give me cuddles. I don't know. Maybe I'm the one who's being selfish.
The psychologist, whose diploma is Remus now observing, makes a face.
"Wanting love is not selfish, Remus," he says, so soft and kind it almost makes Remus feel small, vulnerable and about to break. Or already broken.
"But taking the love away from someone and keeping it to yourself is," he objects.
"You think that's what you did? Taking the love from him?"
"I don't know," he says, and before John can ask him to explain, he continues: "I think maybe if I'd made things right he'd still be here."
The air is still for a few seconds, both in the room and in the street across the window, as well as inside of Remus' lungs, who holds his breath in an attempt to make the ache on his chest go away. It doesn't work.
"It wasn't your fault that he suffered," Josh tells him, but he's been told so many lies he doesn't need to think to detect the lie.
"But it was that he didnāt stop suffering," he tells Mr Too Good For Taking Notes. He should've had that noted. "I should've done something. It's what I'd to have done."
John, wanting to understand but being apparently incapable of it, furrows his brows a bit. The expressions only last a second, and is not even that exaggerated, but Remus sees it anyway. The doubt.
"You think it was your purpose?" He asks. He acts interested. Sometimes he almost even makes Remus forget that he's paid for what he does. That he wouldn't be there if it weren't for the money. That he's got better things to do than...
"Helping him?" Remus asks, trying not to sound too aggressive, but probably failing. "Yes."
"And do you think you were, say, destined to save him?"
"Yes," he agrees. A bit cheesy his personal taste, but, yes, that's what he believes. Why lie, if he's not going to write it down, even.
"But, if it was destiny, how could you have avoided it?"
That feels like a boot to the stomach. He doesn't quite know wether it confuses him or it makes him angry but, either way, he doesn't know what to answer. Perhaps not having thought of it earlier is what irritates him and puts him, once again, in front of a mirror in which a disappointment shines.
He thinks for a bit. Then speaks.
"Trying harder," he says. "Being better."
"No, Remus; is not about trying," his confidant tells him, with a smile that could either indicate complicity or compassion. "You did all that you could, and more. And, still, you couldn't change it, nor can you now."
For some reason, that hurts. Rather, it stings. Both in his open wounds and his sore eyes.
"And what do I do?" He asks. His voice doesn't seem to want to know the answer, as it doesn't cooperate in making itself heard. He swallows and takes a deep breath, letting Sirius' ring slide back into his finger, where it should always have stayed.
"Think about what you did achieve," John offers, so careful it seems almost meticulous. "You made him happy for a time, you gave him peace. You made him feel safe, too. Confident. You helped each other. That's good."
"But he's dead," Remus says. He's not sure he's used that word since it happened. It's not likely, seeing how much it hurts pronouncing it. He's spent over a month circling around and avoiding one of those damned words, the ones that feel like mines in an already ruined field. He presses his lips and looks at John, cheeks wet with rivers of salty water. "That's bad."
"Yes," the therapist agrees. "That is bad."
#crazy about the therapists name being john#cause the original isnt wolfstar so john is a perfectly normal name (and its actually jon)#but in this context it could be interpreted as a conversation with himself and omg aaaaa#also the āif i cant have his ring on my finger i will have it on a chain around my neckā HELLO? im fangirling to my own writing i know#but like#that translates to āif i cant marry him/live a life with him i will at least hold whats left of him close to my heartā#AND THUS I DIE#sorry i just love this scene so much im going nuts#also um ignore the james & lily & peter & harry mention cause i was lazy & didnt know how to make the context make sense lol#wolfstar#remus lupin#sirius black#marauders era#the marauders#dead gay wizards#dead gay wizards from the 70s#moony wormtail padfoot and prongs#tw death#tho if youre sentive to death maybe rethink being on this fandom (for your own personal good)#uhhh idk what else to tag#enjoy the angst#losver fangirls#losver writes for some reason#losver is sad#btw just thought it would have been better if it was sirius talking about finding james dead??? like aaaaa but anyway whats done is done#wolfstar brainrot#wolfstar supremacy#wolfstar microfic#not so micro lol#weirdly i love writing therapy sessions (might be cause i need one)

SOME GOOD SHOWS THAT I LIKED IN 2023! (AND SOME THAT I DIDN'T)
I watched A LOT of stuff that did not originally air in 2023 by dint of my Old GMMTV Challenge. This list is inclusive of this recognition!
THE BEST SHOW I WATCHED THIS YEAR: HE'S COMING TO ME
I have no other words: this is my favorite Thai BL of all time. Perfect length, perfect plot, perfect celebration of Thai culture, perfect acting, the greatest coming out scene of all time, the BEST of the best BL moms. Perfection.
THE OTHER BEST SHOW I WATCHED THIS YEAR: BAD BUDDY
I don't even want to think about how many words I've written on Bad Buddy this year, but they're well deserved for this REMARKABLE show. I've got a thing for shows by Aof Noppharnach that feature Ohm Pawat, what can I say!
THE MOST INFLUENTIAL SHOW(S) I WATCHED THIS YEAR: LOVE SICK AND SOTUS
The influence of Love Sick and SOTUS can be seen in SO MANY Thai BLs, even through today. Without having watched these two shows to start my OGMMTVC project, I wouldn't have the context for what later shows like Bad Buddy and Theory of Love were commenting on by way of their content and structures. Love Sick in particular was a HELL of a lift -- but I am damn glad I watched it, and I certainly feel nostalgia for it today.
Honorable mentions of influential pieces that had impacts on Thai BLs: Love of Siam and Dew the Movie
MY OTHER FAVORITE OLD SHOWS I WATCHED: UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN AND THEORY OF LOVE
BANGERS!!!
If New Siwaj ever tops Until We Meet Again, I'll fly to Bangkok and give him a gold medal. That long-ass show, 17 EPISODES, I WANTED MORE! OhmFluke's chemistry was great, the story delved SO deeply into historical homophobia and how culture and acceptance changes over time -- scrumptious. Theory of Love, man, the way this show ate up implicit compassion bias and gave it right back to us. I loved it. KHAI FOREVER!
THE BEST SHOW I WATCHED THAT ACTUALLY AIRED IN 2023: MOONLIGHT CHICKEN
Not only was Moonlight Chicken my first real live fandom experience on Tumblr, it was a hell of an amazing show, incorporating so much of what I love particularly about Thai BLs, and how many Thai BLs do not shy away from celebrating Asian cultural touchpoints. From exploring Jim's internalized homophobia by way of his rural upbringing, to juxtaposing Pattaya's spiritual symbols with growing development that upends older strains of local culture, Moonlight Chicken offered a lovely commentary on what it means to be queer in an ever-changing Thailand.
THE OTHER BEST SHOW I WATCHED THAT ACTUALLY AIRED IN 2023: WHAT DID YOU EAT YESTERDAY?/KINOU NANI TABETA? SEASON 2
BRILLIANTLY ACTED by literally the best actors in the Asian BL game: we are blessed that Nishijima Hidetoshi and Uchino Seiyou have given so much to this franchise. It's hard to write about this show because it's so perfect -- it needs no extraneous words. Plot, pacing, acting, character development, gratuitous food shots. It has it all.
THE OTHER OTHER BEST SHOW I WATCHED THAT ACTUALLY AIRED IN 2023: I CANNOT REACH YOU
Just like Bad Buddy looked at Thai BL tropes in the eye and said, "over my Nong Nao," I Cannot Reach You asked Japanese BLs about the efficacy of almost every trope we've gotten used to, and questioned them with efficiency. The biggest shocker for me? REAL COMMUNICATION, encouraged by the CIPHER, Hosaka, that allowed the two lead protagonists to confirm their love and understand each other. It was straightforward and FUCKING GOOD.
A SHOW THAT AIRED IN 2023 THAT I HAVEN'T WRITTEN ABOUT YET, THAT I NEED TO REWATCH IN CHRONOLOGY, THAT ALSO DID SOME TROPE/GENRE ASS-KICKING THAT I'M STILL THINKING ABOUT: LA PLUIE
La Pluie was FEARLESS. The show had a LOT to say about romance and soulmates not being as much of a realistic thing as content-makers... and, frankly, majority society would like us to think. La Pluie made its characters WORK for love and understanding, and had us viewers face our implicit biases about how romantic content should and could work. I watched this show out of order of the OGMMTVC watchlist to see it it was one of the best of the year, and it certainly is. I'm planning a deep rewatch for early 2024 to pen my words on it.
A SHOW THAT ALMOST TOPPED MY 2023 LIST BUT GOT DOCKED BECAUSE I ENDED UP LIKING THE NOVEL A LOT BETTER: I FEEL YOU LINGER IN THE AIR
@neuroticbookworm and @lurkingshan know that I flipped THA FUCK out over this show -- FABULOUSLY acted by Nonkul Chanon and Bright Rapheephong, FABULOUS cinematography, great story up until the end of the series. My fangirling led me to read the original novel by Violet Rain, and -- I found out that Jom was a lot more damn sassy than we got in the show! Tee Bundit's penchant for sadness won. This is not to dock the show, but the novel had more than enough material to carry the series through without repeating themes in the end. So it fell on my 2023 list, womp womp. BUT I STILL LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SHOW, DON'T GET ME WRONG.
TWO SHOWS THAT I'M SUPER GLAD I CAUGHT UP WITH WHILE THEY WERE AIRING: THE EIGHTH SENSE AND BE MY FAVORITE
Be My Favorite looked at Krist Perawat's checkered past as a BL idol and said: we are going to examine this and make an honest BL out of inspiration from it. It wasn't a perfect show, the time travel shit didn't end up adding up in the end, BUT -- excellent acting from two GMMTV VETS made up for those tangles, and I loved the contextual philosophical references throughout the series. The Eighth Sense looked at the tug-of-war that Korean BLs have with K-dramas and their tropes and said, actually? We will have these dudes full-frontal kiss, and placed that energy against commentaries on mental health, both topics that Korea hasn't quite embraced as quickly as other countries.
HONORABLE MENTIONS OF OTHER AWESOME SHOWS THAT MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE AIRED IN 2023
Make It Right, Our Dating Sim, Dark Blue Kiss, Gay OK Bangkok, Dirty Laundry, 10 Years Ticket, I Told Sunset About You, I Promised You the Moon, 3 Will Be Free, Lovely Writer (underrated?!), Our Skyy 2 x Bad Buddy x A Tale of Thousand Stars (UNDERRATED!), and Manner of Death.
And the shows that are airing that I know will stay with me well into 2024: Last Twilight and Cherry Magic Thailand.
I had fun!
WHAT ELSE, WHAT ELSE: THE "NO" SHOWS: THE PROMISE AND STEP BY STEP
I'm not even hyperlinking my thoughts on these shows, nor gifting them with gifs. Insert Bugs Bunny NOOOOOO gif here! We got Man Trisanu, though.
THE SHOW I WAS THE MOST OBVIOUSLY DISAPPOINTED BY: ONLY FRIENDS
Despite my passionate disappointment for this show and how it ended: in the context of the OGMMTVC, Only Friends is still an incredibly important inclusion to the list. Some amazing Tumblr bloggers offered commentary that the bias against sex that OF contained within the show was actually importantly and culturally contextual to the still-conservative state of acceptance that Thailand is currently in (here and here for more reading).
Only Friends reminded us that despite any kind of marketing that we here on Tumblr, as a majority non-Thai audience, may receive about a Thai show -- that we are still not fully plugged into the non-verbal expectations of what a show like OF could promise to do, and to be okay when it doesn't reach those heights. In light of the seemingly pro-sex marketing blasts that previewed the series before its airing, OF ultimately seemed to want to take casual sex, chew it up, and spit it out. There might be reasons why that happened that we just don't know about as outsiders to Thailand. But as an Asian-American viewer that was hoping for neutral -- and maybe even supportive -- commentary on single folks having casual sex without judgement, OF did not deliver for me.
I'm ending the year reading Dr. Thomas Baudinette's book, Boys Love Media in Thailand, the first book-length ethnographic study on the impact of BL on queerness, media, and more in Thailand and across Asia. Baudinette comes from the world of Japanese queer media studies -- as someone who came to Thai BLs this year from Japanese BLs, I appreciate his trajectory. It's clearly a necessity for me to read this book in the context of the OGMMTVC, to understand how Thai BLs have changed over time, and to understand the incredibly larger impact of heterosexual/heteronormative media and themes on Thai media as a whole, as larger and larger swaths of Thai, Asian, and international societies welcome and watch BLs with open arms.
All of this feeds into my ever-growing body of knowledge about the impact of Thai BLs, both in Thailand and across Asia, as Baudinette writes about, and how these shows have and are developed/developing over time. It's been an AMAZING YEAR of watching old and new dramas for me, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the genre grows even more in 2024.
I also made AMAZING FRIENDS on Tumblr -- y'all know who you are! What a year of growth and discovery for me: this has been a fabulous experience, and I'm looking forward to even more growth in the new year!

Being a physically disabled Dimension 20 fan breaks my heart sometimes
Iāve been thinking about this since last Wednesdayās episode when we finally got a real scene with Lydia, one of the few physically disabled characters in the entire canon of the show. It was nice, but it was really just a lore dump. An excuse for exposition. A moment for Kristen to look good by expending sympathy/pity. (Iām a little frustrated about how that interaction went down. Extending the help action was nice but patronizingly touching the neck of a full-ass adult without consent was not. It was weird and not something she would have done to a nondisabled character).
I have watched almost all of D20 (still missing a couple of seasons) and as far as I know hereās where our list of canon physically disabled characters stand: Lydia Barkrock, Jan de la Vega (who feels pretty problematic to me, maybe more on that in a later post), one of the Dwarven statues in the temple in The Seven (who is not given the dignity of being brought to life like Asha), and Peteās coworker in TUC2 who is in exactly one episode and is so unimportant I have forgotten his name. I guess you could make an argument that Gunny is disabled, but I don't feel that Lou or Brennan really talk about him or play him through that lens. So in terms of canon physically disabled PCs-- that leaves us with 0.
We do a bit better with neurodivergent characters and characters with mental health problems; Ayda (my beloved) is very well developed and Adaine is a PC. There have been some openly neurodivergent players, like Omar and Surena, whose characters also read ND to me. But that isnāt labeled or discussed in canon, so it's hard for me to know where to class that. I am going to focus the rest of this post on physical disabilities, since that is my area of lived experience. If another fan wants to write about their perspective of neurodivergence rep in the show, I would love to hear that, and will happily amplify.
There has never been a character with a sensory disability or a limb difference or a chronic illness (not a fantasy one, a real one) on Dimension 20. The only NPCs we have are nondescript, similar wheelchair users. And there has never been a physically disabled player at the table. On the flagship show of Dropout, a company founded on diversity and inclusion. It feels extremely pointed to me.
In fact as far as I can tell there has only been one (1) physically disabled performer on any of Dropoutās shows. (Shout out to Brett, you were great on Dirty Laundry.) Obviously I havenāt seen every episode of everything they have produced. If I have missed someone, please do let me know in the comments/reblogs. But itās a problem. And Sam Reich even agreed with this criticism when I asked him directly about.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/6a4b751cac750b0486a4ad0032dd4de5/84e6da4bd5ed9efc-b0/s540x810/fe7adc445072e8ea458f85e085e55f7aa0e82a2e.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/9bb9799762bd1a3b82639bc561c80c99/84e6da4bd5ed9efc-7c/s540x810/7fbe25e6857e387de10a2a6ad0e9c412b5b86c95.jpg)
I do really hope theyāre working on it, as Sam says. But why has it taken so long?
Dimension 20 has had trans and nonbinary and queer players. It has had players of many different races. Iām not saying that the diversity here is perfect; there should always be more POC in the dome, more queer people. We should keep pushing for that. (And we should also push for performers at the intersections of these identities!) But weāve seen the ways this diversity has expanded and improved the different seasons, because diverse players create sensitively drawn, diverse player characters. They add details to their PCās experiences that make them feel rich and alive. Iām thinking about each of Allyās PCās incredible capital G gender and Aabria āall my characters (even the stoats) are Blackā and how excellent they all are. D20 would not be the show it is without this input.
And yet. And yet.
There are 1,000 interesting and complicated themes to explore around disability. Dealing with access. Dealing with ableism. Dealing with compassion and community care. Dealing with none of it and just being a cool fantasy or sci fi character that happens to be disabled. We donāt get any of it.
I watch my favorite show and I see myself in the ace rep and the female characters. But I donāt see all of me. I see a silent but ever present message: you arenāt quite welcome here.
I have this fantasy that I play in my brain sometimes that someday Iāll get to talk to Brennan in person, like maybe if I buy a VIP ticket and risk Covid to go to a live show or we run into each other on the street or something. I am able to look him in the eye and articulate why he NEEDS to include a physically disabled player in an upcoming season. I reference the ways heās talked about inclusion and writing diversely on Adventuring Party. Maybe I hand him a handwritten letter, or hell, a printout of this post. And because he really cares about diversity and his shows and his fans he would listen to me, and cast a physically disabled performer in the next season.
But I think that might be giving that nondisabled man (whose work I adore, who I respect so much) too much credit. Because heās had Jennifer Kretchmer, a physically disabled actual play performer, on adventuring academy to talk about access in gaming. Heās hired disability consultants. He knows about physically disabled people, enough to give us shoutouts as inconsequential npcs. And he still hasnāt thought to include us at the table. In over 20 seasons. None of that other stuff matters if we aren't given a seat at the story telling table, and the agency to craft our own narratives equal to other participants in the game.
When Lydia was telling her story in the last episode, I kept wishing for a prequel, where she is more than a plot delivery device and a kind but unimportant parent. I want to know about her adventures with her adventuring party. I want to see a talented, wheelchair-using actor play out the scene when she decides to put the gem in her chest. I want to hear about what happened after. I want to know how she survived. I want it so badly it hurts.
I am in the process of trying to find new indie actual plays that feature more disabled talent. I am learning how to GM myself so I can tell these kinds of stories. But itās not the same as being a fan of something. Sometimes I donāt want to have to make my own representation. Sometimes I just want to turn on my favorite tv show, the one that I have cosplayed from and written metas about and loved whole heartedly, and see myself included.
If youāre another disabled or neurodivergent fan Iād love to hear your thoughts on this. If youāre not, Iād love for you to reblog this. I would love for the absence of physical disability in this show to be a topic of fandom conversation, at the very least.

I havent watched it yet, but I saw a lot of reports that The Acolyte promotes a lot of Jedi Order "hate" if you will. What did you think about it? As a Jedi fan, I kind of DONT want to watch it because of that.
If you ask me, it's a fine show :) it hasn't quite gripped me, the thick lightsabers that look like toys are a nitpick that keeps triggering me.
But overall it's nice!
Yes, there are some small jabs.
The Jedi in The Acolyte are really reticent towards using their lightsabers, resorting to hand-to-hand or even stun weapons.
From what I've seen on Twitter, people are speculating that this is to show how much more "good" the Jedi were back then, as opposed to the more "square, dogmatic, quick-on-the-draw Prequel Jedi," who lost their compassion and have fully detached themselves to the point of dehumanizing themselves.
Yord is clearly meant to be one of the first "Prequel Jedi" as described above.
It's played for laughs 50% of the time, but yeah. The narrative frames him as being a bit of a dick who's a bit too proud of himself. And I'm seeing reflections of Tales of the Jedi Mace Windu & what Filoni described Episode I Obi-Wan as.
Same goes for Vernestra, dogmatically insisting he return to Coruscant because "protocol" and literally shown playing politics.
I've seen folks draw a parallel between Vernestra's attitude and that scene in Episode II where Yoda and Mace agree that they can't let the Senate know their powers of foresight are waning... and yeah, people interpret that scene as the two of them playing politics.
The director commentary of Episode II states that's not the case. It's more about the fact that if they trying to keep the war from starting.
Parallels between Sol and Qui-Gon
Very evident. But again... if you ask me, Sol is just being a Jedi. Qui-Gon isn't the only one with those character traits. Look at Obi-Wan, Yoda, Mace, Shaak Ti.
Finally, there's some hints that some evil shit went down years prior to the show and the Jedi were at the center of it.
I'm gonna hazard a guess that it's not as black and white as Mae or Sol makes it seem. A "big misunderstanding" type deal.
So yeah. Vernestra and Yord strike me as one-dimensional and a bit cartoonish. But overall:
Love seeing Jedi do some Kung Fu.
Love that they finally fixed how lightsaber blades look on camera.
Love the concept of a Jedi-centered detective story.
Mae and Osha are fun in different ways, but I'm kinda scared that, from their mantra, the show is gonna culminate in a "Gray Jedi is the way" kinda direction, and you know how I feel about that.
Love Qimir. And I get the feeling he's more than what he says he is, if you get my drift.
Love the acting in it, the set pieces, the production value, the way some Force powers are used (Sol with the Force speed, fuck yeah!)
Love that the title of "sith acolyte" is an actual thing now. It kinda helps us figure out what Dooku was between when he left in Dooku: Jedi Lost and his last episode in Tales of the Jedi. If I understand correctly, Sidious had an apprentice while grooming an acolyte... once the apprentice kicked the bucket, he promoted Dooku.
8/10 as far as I'm concerned.

I wish people could understand that Mel CAN be a manipulator and an empathetic person, one does not cancel out the other, and the fact you guys keep trying to say for others to, "understand the complexity of the character" but KEEP IGNORING IMPORTANT CHARACTER FACTS its frustrating.
Mel is a good manipulator bc she understand others, her empathy is used to work towards others feelings, and THAT'S why she can manipulate Jayce so well, because he is ALWAYS open with his feelings, he always feels the need of aproval, and Mel is always there to say what he wants to hear, and I swear if I see someone else saying "Jayce wanted to be manipulated" I will jump (Wth is WANTING to be manipulated??? manipulated is doing something for others want, not yours).
This is not only throwing away ALL of Jayce's arc and character through the window, but is ALSO throwing away all Mel's character, she IS A FCKIN GOOD MANIPULATOR THATS WHY SHE IS THE FOX AND NOT THE WOLF AND HER ARC IS ABOUT TURNING INTO BOTH NOT JUST BEING ONE
And that's why they couldn't work out, they were meant to help eachother grow in character, yes, but not to grow together (Not criticizing people who ship them). But thats why all their scenes together just doesn't feel right, Mel is always surprised when Jayce comes to her seeking confort, yes, she can care about him, she can love him, her manipulating him doesn't mean she can't love him (after all she is the daugher of Ambessa, she only knows this about love, she doesn't think its something so big), and at some point she could have loved him romantically, but deeply? I don't think she knew Jayce deeply enough to really love him that way. The same with him.
Mel used Jayce, Jayce used Mel (In ways he probably didnāt even know, he used her for confort, for being a safe haven for him, also, maybe thats why HE apologized in the end to her, I will probably analyze this scene better later), Mel used Jayce for all her purposes and thought it was doing good for him too, after all, who wouldn't want a chair at the council sit? With all the investments and privilegies. Mel did have good intentions all the time, but she doesn't come front with people to ask what they want, she assumes, she do, she never asks, she tries to never show weakness but she always will show compassion, in many ways she is like her mother.
Mel is a interesing character because she commits bad things with good intentions, not noticing she is also hurting others, she does to others what she would want for herself, but never actually asks herself if others would REALLY want that. In top of that, she IS classicist towards Viktor, the same way all characters of piltover are in one way or another, this is embedded in their heads internally and sometimes they don't even know, the way she ignores him and is just going towards Jayce's aproval to get aproved the hextech weapons, the way she looks at him with arrogance, she looks down on him.
The thing with Arcane characters, is that most of them have more than one facet, they wont fit perfectly into the "good" or "bad" person, and I really wish Mel's character to not be boiled down into just "did nothing wrong ever" or "Girl character that stayed bettwen my ship"
