Selena stalking the bats because well... Batcat reasons
Spots another stalker, much smaller with camera
Is interrupted by a rouge deciding to recreate Godzilla but in Gotham and without the monster.
Ends up scooping the small child up and bunkering down while the city goes to shit.
The smaller stalker is... A strange child. Very well mannered, very aware of how much of her space how much of her time he is taking up. Very apologetic about everything.
It takes longer than it should for her to remember that children typically have parents. And that while the kid was fine with her assuming he was a street kid he had a very expensive photography kit. And not nearly enough meat on his bones.
It takes just a little and then he's opening up, but not really he thinks he's trying to convince her to let him walk home alone. My parents think I'm very self sufficient, no of course I don't have a nanny I'm not a child he very much is a child, their in Egypt they don't keep up with the news, well I guess you would be interested in the jade cat l.
So he agrees to let her drive him home.
She makes a detour, tells him to play along. Introduces him as her son, to batman... Not that he's supposed to know Mr. Wayne is batman.
He doesn't break character, neither of his "parents" are blood type O... And doing a field blood transfusion... Is going to raise some questions.
#tim drake#selena kyle#catwoman#red ribbon#batman#batcat#Selena just steals an entire child#yes she and Bruce get married the next day at city hall#because they'd been engaged.... for a hot sec#but Tim's parents just don't show up#until after Bruce realizes he “is not the father”#he's totally Tim's dad though

you guys i have so many thoughts about tdr. i have so much to say. like i don't want to be super mean but dude that comic fucking sucks and i can't lie i think it made me kind of homophobic actually
#my stance up to now has been that i don't really care about tim/ber but now that i have read this. dude...#it sucks that they gave a canon queer tim narrative to someone who uses homophobia as shock value and virtue signaling points#and who actively tears down characters who don't like her special little uwu flawless oc (kate im so fucking sorry)#there's no substance to this relationship i don't see why they even like each other#bc she keeps just stating oh they're perfect they make each other so happy but she doesn't like. show that at all#and i HATE the shock value homophobia like i cannot overstate how much i hate it#oh these random cops are homophobic (that's how you know they're BAD!)#oh bernard's parents are homophobic (that's how you know THEY'RE bad too!)#it's so hamfisted and it reads like such. cheap storytelling#especially bc tim as narrator doesn't even get to have ANY thoughts on his own queerness or seeing this homophobia in the world around him#and then she can't go more than two pages without being like BTW BERNARD IS THE BEST EVER AND TIM CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT HIM#while against this ugly backdrop of shock value homophobia#there's no substance to this relationship. why do they even like each other. it just falls apart if you examine it at all#because she just is fundamentally incapable of writing either of them as people with character flaws#for fucks sake she can't even be consistent with tim's BASIC character tenets. ''i always dreamed of being batman'' false lmao#but then to follow it up with ''i never wanted to be batman i always wanted to be my dad''#and then on TOP OF THAT to make the Only mention of Jack drake and his impact on tim's life ABOUT BERNARD AGAIN.#yeah sorry im a hater now. this was shit tier#rimi talks

Valicer Not-Incorrect Quotes, Meet The Family Edition Volume II: Van Dort Visit
Victor: [knocking on the door to Smiler's apartment, fidgeting anxiously] S-smiler? Are -- are you ready to go?
Smiler: [from the other side of the door] Yeah, just a second!
Smiler: [opens the door to reveal that they're wearing -- a plain black suit, white shirt, and black tie]
Victor:
Smiler: ...you okay?
Victor: [blinking and shaking his head] Yes! I-I just -- didn't expect -- [gestures to the outfit] I d-didn't think you owned -- d-don't get me wrong, it is p-probably perfect for visiting Burtonsville and m-meeting my parents, it's only...it looks d-downright funereal.
Smiler: [really awkward smile] Ah -- there's a reason for that...
--
[Context: the trio are being driven by the Van Dorts' chauffeur through the streets of Burtonsville to the Van Dort mansion]
Smiler: [takes a picture of the town and sends it to their friends]
Thirteen: [texting back] Ha ha. Take one without the black-and-white-filter, will you?
Galactica: [texting back] Yeah, be fair, Smiler.
Smiler: [a minute later, texts a picture of themselves and Alice in front of the window, showing that they're in full color]
Galactica: [texting back] WTF???
Thirteen: [texting back] HOLY SHIT HE ACTUALLY LIVES IN A TIM BURTON MOVIE?!
--
[Context: at the mansion, Victor is showing Alice and Smiler around]
Smiler: [staring down another hallway] Sheesh, how many rooms does this place have?
Victor: I'm honestly not sure. More than we could ever need, that's for certain. [rolls his eyes] Have to have room for all of Mother's "treasures..."
Alice: Yes, your mother in particular does seem to be into the conspicuous consumption. [small smile] At least you don't have a gold toilet?
[smash cut to:]
Alice: [staring at a literal gold toilet] Oh my fucking god.
Smiler: [also staring] Is it -- can you --
Victor: Of course not -- do you think my mother would ever allow anyone to befoul her beloved toilet?
Smiler: Rita is going to kill your parents if she ever meets them.
Victor: Please tell her to do so in a way that allows me a proper alibi.
--
[Context: Nell is holding court at tea and complaining about "this modern world"]
Nell: People just don't know their place anymore! Why, just a little while ago, I had the displeasure of dealing with the rudest, most incompetent barista I've ever met!
Victor: [not really paying attention anymore] Did you?
Nell: Yes! Cheeky little bugger didn't seem to understand anything about his job! All I wanted was a few little extras -- the sort a customer is entitled to -- and he couldn't even pour the coffee right!
Victor: [sudden horrified realization] Uh --
Alice: [calmly sipping her tea] That must have been terrible for you.
Smiler: [nodding] I bet you didn't even leave a tip.
Nell: Oh, we never leave tips anyway -- we don't believe in them, isn't that right, William? [William gets half a nod in before she continues] But we paid good money for that coffee, and I expected it to be done right! Not by some half-wit with dyed hair rolling his colored contacts at me!
Smiler: [completely deadpan] How dare they.
Victor: [muttering] Still drank the entire thing, though.
Nell: Not the point! [shaking her head as she returns to her own tea] At least you're not spending all your time with those sorts, Victor. If I knew you were carrying on with a barista I'd die of shame.
Alice: [under her breath] Can we have that in writing?
Victor: [trying very hard not to laugh]
--
Victor: [deep sigh as they all climb in the Van Dort's car to go home] Thank you both for putting up with that.
Alice: It's fine, Victor. They are your parents, and we were going to have to do that eventually.
Victor: I know, just -- I'm sorry. About them. They're -- a-a lot, I know.
Alice: [squeezing his forearm] I imagine you do, yes.
Smiler: Yeah, really. [pause] So, how do you think it's going to take before she finally realizes who I am and dies of shame?
Victor: Considering how much attention she pays to "servants" -- the heat death of the universe.
Alice: I don't think I can wait that long.
Victor: Please don't murder my mother.
Smiler: Yeah, Rita already has dibs.

My favorite thing about the bats is that… they are gothamites. And sure they scare the shit out of people… but they are in Gotham. Superman is loved by his people, Flash is adored, people pray to Wonder Woman, Green Arrow is feared. But the Bats? The Bats are like all of Gotham's weird older brothers/sisters/parents. Superman and Green Lantern are visiting Batman in Gotham and all of a sudden he gets smacked in the face by a banana and they turn and find a group of teens skateboarding away and one kid calls over his shoulder ‘eat the fucking potassium you absolute brick.’ and Batman doesn't even do anything. Barry is chilling with Nightwing when a girl runs beneath the building they are sitting on and screams “Nice ass Night! But get it the fuck down here, my cats stuck in a tree.” And Nightwing does a flip off the building and just?? helps her?? Wonder Woman and Black Canary are passing through Crime Alley on their way to the Batcave and spot Red Hood standing in an alley, being lectured by a woman who is half his size and she ends the lecture by throwing two sandwiches at his face and walking away. Red Hood just takes his hood off and starts eating. Superboy is helping Red Robin defeat Scarecrow and while they’re hiding, waiting for him to walk into their trap, RR is casually conversing with a Gothamite about Hogwarts Houses, and when he says the Gothamite looks like a Gryfindor he pops his head out and screams “Yo scarecrow hes right fucking here!” J’onn is heading to the Manor to discuss League business with Bruce when he spots Robin(Damian) fighting Riddler all alone and is about to intervene when three teenagers show up and just fucking deck him instead. Damian doesn't thank them, just glowers, and one of the guys goes “you're welcome you fucking brat.” And the girl even smacks the back of his head and goes “manners.” Clark is sent to go find Tim and Steph and Damian and finds them at this girls birthday party, in full costume, eating cupcakes and drinking punch, jumping on the bouncy house and is like “errr, B-Batman needs you home.” And as one the entire birthday party group went “Fuck Batman.” Spoiler was spotted painting these guys nails, Black Bat was seen teaching calculus to a group of teenagers, Batgirl(Babs) was running after a group of kids screaming “Give me back my laptop you fucks!” Just- just the batfamily and Gothamites being annoying to each other and appreciative yet bitches.
Bus driver: stop getting thrown at my fucking bus, i got places to be and my insurance only covers so many shatter windshields and person sized dents Batman: I don't really control where I get thrown Bus Driver: well you better fucking start otherwise theres gonna be another fucking villain on these streets *drives away and almost runs him over* Superman: *gaping* yo-you're just gonna let him do that? Batman: *shrugs* Gotham insurance aint what its cracked up to be Superman: *staring dumbly*
#gothamites and batfamily are like this🤞#they hate each other but love each other#one big happy fucked up family#batfam#batman#batman and robin#bruce wayne#batfamily#gothamites#only in gotham

(based on a fic i'm writing atm)
Jazz Fenton who, after a bad reveal to the parents, starts to search for family that can take care of Danny because it is unsafe for him in Amity Park now. Jazz Fenton who finds the name Kane in her ancestry that then connects her to the name Wayne.
Jazz Fenton who shows up on Bruce Wayne's doorstep with a folder of proof of their relation with pictures; blood tests; family trees; etc. Jazz Fenton who says that Danny is "different" from the other boys and that it is too dangerous at home after their parents found out.
Bruce Wayne who shares this with his kids and they all come to the (logical in this situation) assumption that Danny Fenton is a trans man, proven more when their government files are encrypted and neither Tim nor Barbara can crack them (the Guys In White encrypted them and Tucker, upon finding out about this, further encrypted them just to see if he could (spoiler alert: he could))
Their theory is further proven even MORE when Danny is asked why he's still wearing a shirt while they're swimming in the pool of Wayne Manor (post identity reveal on the Bats' part because otherwise he'd question the scars) and Danny says he has scars on his chest he doesn't like showing (they are vivisection scars from the GIW)
I love the "accidentally assuming someone is trans" trope so much, it's so funny
*Everyone staring at Danny because he took off his shirt after spilling hot cocoa on himself*
Danny: What are you guys... oh. Oh, right, those.
Bruce: Those are... Daniel, are those dissection scars?
Danny, assuming the gig is up: Vivisection scars, actually. Or maybe it could be considered dissection, though I was definitely awake during it. I uh... guess I owe you all an explanation, don't I?
The rest of the batfam doesn't even care about the why or the how. They just want to know who did this to the Danny.
I love them a normal amount, I swear

Full disclosure I haven't read this particular arc just yet (it's on my list!) plus tumblr deleted like three paragrahs and I'm grumpy, but I love love love how this is another example of Bruce trying so hard and succeeding in his relationship with Tim. There's a reason why Tim is probably the Robin who believes in Bruce the most (and highkey the only Robin who actually wants to keep Robinning) and it's because of moments like this. Bruce's getting-it-right-moments ratio manages a net positive when it comes to Tim where it questionably doesn't with everyone else.
Because unlike his adopted ones, Tim still saw Robin as a "job" that he could be "fired" from. He can/will/has quit Robin of more-or-less his own volition before. Everyday that he clocks in for his Robin shift is a reassurance to Bruce that he's choosing this, something that Bruce can't easily take for granted if his Robin is someone that depends on him for their entire livelihood.
In return, Bruce tries really hard with Tim and improves upon what relationship skills he had with Dick and Jason. Because Jason showed him what happens if he messes up. Because Dick kept reviewing where he went wrong. Because Tim wasn't the kind of kid to just roll over and take unjust treatment but also was the most starry-eyed and reasonable Robin to ever Robin. Bruce puts down his walls to apologise to Tim, Bruce praises Tim for his work frequently, Bruce hears out his troubles and tries to improve on them — all of these still scarce because Bruce is like that but also very much present throughout their relationship.
And Tim makes it so easy, you know? I'm thinking about Tim negotiating with Bruce doing Young Justice (1998) about telling his friends his secret identity. He communicates with him really well and doesn't let up on how unfair it is, all the while never giving Bruce a hint of a threat that he'll simply disobey him. Bruce bends the rules, and Tim is elated. He respects Bruce to hold the reins, but then he demands a level of respect in return. Because yeah, if Robin is a "job", then Batman is his boss, and he answers to the viligante union and HR department in Tim's head that allows Tim to walk out of this job anytime he wants.
Tim makes it so easy. He walked into the Robin position going quite clearly "You're not telling anyone what you feel but I'm quite certain I can tell. You have relationships in your life that are valuable but are quite clearly fucking up on and that's just a shame and needs to be rectified posthaste. I recognise that you're in charge here but here's my powerpoint presentation on what I think is the best course of action—" and then Tim is in there with his absolute zero mouth filter and his urge to emotionally contextualise absolutely everything that happens. He goes into fits of anger and then immediately follows it up with "I'm sorry for lashing out, I know you're only trying to help and it's just a lot for me." (hnnngh I'm in awe of this boy's emotional awareness) and he'll have a good time and then follow it up with "That was great! I particularly enjoyed ____ and ____!" like some field trip assignment. He does this to Bruce, he does this to Dick, he does this to freaking Alfred. His constant communication and general obedience puts everyone at ease and makes them more willing to hear him out, and also if the tiny kid is calling you out on your emotions and not stopping for the last twelve blocks then maybe it's time to address those supposedly obvious feelings.
I'm inclined to think that Dick and Jason could've achieved this if it wasn't for the fact that A) they were stuck to Bruce and had virtually no choice but to seek his approval for everything and B) Bruce wasn't being receptive. By the time Tim came along, Bruce had seen how a lack of trust breaks down the relationship and ultimately leads to major field consequences. He'd figured out that those pesky little emotions that he'd always shunted away was something that could put his Robin in actual danger, that he should actually prioritise them to the extent he could. He'd raised one Robin that he thought probably hated him (Dick) and another that had died trying to find parental love in his absence (Jason) and now here came a third Robin who would throw his hands up in the air exactly like his first two and Bruce knows what comes next if he plays his cards wrong.
It's fascinating for me to watch Dick and Bruce struggle through their own strange relationship in the early days of Tim because they (plus Alfred) constantly have Tim as their bottom line of the Ultimate Child To Protect. And like I said, Tim makes it easy. Anything Bruce fails at in the parental department isn't his first-line responsibility because Tim's dad is alive and he loves him (parental failures on Jack's part are considered more important because Jack's his real actual active dad! Tim doesn't want or expect Bruce to be his dad, therefore rendering all parental affections from Bruce net positive no matter what!), anytime Tim is dissatisfied with the adult support he's getting from Bruce, he stalks Dick or Alfred for Better Adult Advice.
The foundation of their relationship makes it work for Tim to be effectively and eventually officially an emancipated minor. Tim is well-equipped enough to handle the pesky adult parts. As for the mentoring parts, this child is basically famous for procuring his own family. But he and Bruce are extremely similar on their paranoid need for control, and this takes them in opposite directions in this scenario — Bruce wanting to adopt Tim, and Tim wanting to be independant. What I love so much about this conclusion is that Bruce gives in, accepts that he can't have total control, settles for involving himself in Tim's life in any way he can. And Tim receives this as trust, validation, security. It has the unfortunate side effect of encouraging his paranoia-fueled shenanigans (*cough*hit list*cough) as basically everyone in the batfamily does to each other, but it reinforces the support Tim needed at this difficult time. Bruce managed to reassure him that he would still be there for him even if he didn't choose to lock them into the father-son role Bruce wanted. Is it any surprise that Tim is the Robin he can depend on to always come home when called on?
(Of course, the net positive still means Bruce messed up 999 times but sooomehow they did manage a net positive)

This is one of my favourite Bruce/Tim moments. All you will ever need to know about Bruce's method of parenting his kids is in these three panels.
#dc#batfam#tim drake#batman & robin#phoenixglacier's words#Also!! I do have specific moments that are jumping to mind as I write these!!!#A Lonely Place Of Dying + Rite Of Passage:#for where Tim shows up with all his zero mouth filter and then for his emotional turmoil when his parents are kidnapped#Young Justice (1998):#Bruce is like the the adult mentor that actually believes in Robin constantly and genuinely argues for him#naturally this is all behind the scenes and only mentioend because Tim deduced it without Batman having to tell him#this is what I mean by Tim making it easy because he'll notice Bruce's actions without always having to be told#Between aLPoD & RoP are a bunch of Batman issues that show Tim's training#and during that there's this scene where Tim calls Alfred and asks to go train at the cave on the weekend because he get needs to get away#so Alfred's able to be like Oh okay I will be prepared for a teenager who might be emotional instead of purely focused#he also does a ton of this stuff with Dick and probably modeled healthy behaviour for them in the most Disney Junior way possible#Batman Knightfall:#Bruce in his distress tells Tim that he was counting on him to handle gotham#and Tim just plainly explains that it was asking too much of him but that he tried anyway but almost got killed ya know?#It's the fact that Tim absolutely shouldn't be blamed but like Tim could actually articulate such without them all imploding#Nightwing (1996) Issue uhhh 6:#also Prodigal:#Tim does the dissecting of feelings with Dick just as much as he does Bruce but I love reading this arc just for showcasing Tim's life MO#his field trip debrief assignments. his nosy little habits. his ability to trade shifts instead of working excessively#(to the result of adorable scenes)#He stands up for himself whenever Dick gets too bossy and it shows how Dick is different too (so much more willing to admit he's wrong)#I feel like I don't have to mention this but#A Death In The Family:#has Jason so happy with the littlest things Bruce does that seem to reach out to him#this boy was willing to take whatever love he could get

I’m kinda curious as to how the batboys would react with a partner that randomly compliments them (like really sweet and sappy things too, “you’re so pretty, I love how smart your are, you’re perfect,” etc.) + refers to them as Boyfriend, no name, just Boyfriend
Like the reader would be all “hey! This is Boyfriend,” while holding onto him.
Ahhh, I love this concept!! (I only did part of it, but please let me know if you want the other part!)
---___---___---___---___---___---___---___---___---_
Bruce: Would be very confused at first because he's always used to his partners introducing him as Bruce Wayne. And he always knew they did it so people realized their partner was dating a billionaire. He'd expect it from you, like with everyone, but then you simply introduced him as your boyfriend. Alright, that was strange. He assumed it was because it was just your coworkers he met and you didn't care much what they thought. Then it happened with your friends and your parents and each time you introduced him to someone, not as Bruce Wayne the billionaire, but simply your boyfriend, he felt his heart clench a little. His wealth or status hadn't won your heart, he had.
---
Dick: When you don't introduce him by his name the first time he meets your friends, he says nothing about it. He assumes it was a one off. But no. You kept calling him that, barely saying his name at all, if ever. It was always "Oh, my boyfriend likes that restaurant too!" And "Actually, my boyfriend has an early day tomorrow, we'll pass." He soon realized it was your own subtle jealousy showing. You called him your boyfriend every chance you got because you didn't want a single one of your friends looking at him for too long, let alone any strangers getting the idea they had a chance. He was a bit proud, honestly. He found it adorable how you'd drag his arm around his waist to emphasize your point.
---
Jason: He feared love more than anything. It terrified him to give his heart to someone when it felt so fragile he thought if it broke one more time he'd die for good. But then he gave it to you. He still felt hesitant and you knew that. Which is why you would call him your boyfriend every chance you got. You wanted him to know how much you liked people knowing who he was to you. He realized quickly that you did it for his benefit but couldn't bring himself to ask you to stop. He really liked having you say it and it made him a bit more confident in your love for him each time he realized you weren't ashamed of him.
---
Tim: You do it to tease him, but he never responded in the right way whenever you did. He'd lean in as well and start referring to you only as his girlfriend/boyfriend/partner just so it was fair. He rather enjoyed the way it sounded when you called him that. He still couldn't believe you'd actually put up with him, so hearing you state so proudly that he was your boyfriend made him elated. How would it not? He knew you meant it as a dramatic, over the top joke, but he loved hearing it anyway. So much so that you both eventually stopped with the theatrics and began using it sincerely.
---
(Aged up) Damian: He's a proud man, typically. With an ego far taller than him. You called him your boyfriend once before you started dating and he lost it, angry that you didn't give him the chance to ask you to be his girlfriend properly before you began using those labels. Then, you'd use it to annoy him at first. Never saying his name when you introduced him to your friends or family bugged him and you knew it, but you slowly came to enjoy it for reasons other than his frustration. He had to admit, he learned to like it after a while, too. You

Comforting Your Batboy
First | Previous | Next
Danny slept next to Dick for a few days after what happened. He no longer felt secure about his place here. No matter where you go you take yourself with you and Danny is the problem here yet again.
Danny didn't understand affection, at least not the kind that a parent gave. The moment Danny told Dick that his parents were scientists Richard understood. Gotham had seen dozens of scientists who pushed the boundaries of morality and there was no shortage of children used to fulfill their ambitions.
Danny still missed his parents. Regardless of how things ended, he had lived his entire life with a family unit that on paper meant life was stable. He had somewhere to go and people who at least acknowledged him as family. Parents that took care of him at least out of obligation.
This story sounded familiar. Like Jason who never stopped loving his mom despite everything or Tim who accepted his neglect as what it was. They didn't know what it was like to have parents that loved them like they should. Dick was lucky to have the parent he had.
Danny remembered quiet dinners as his parents rushed to finish the food that Jazz made or them going on long tirades about their research. For 12 years they devotedly worked on that portal. Every chance they got they'd run off to the basement. Because it was their life's work, the only thing that mattered.
When it was unveiled, Jazz only scoffed. She hated the portal. Dad looked to Danny for praise and Danny didn't know what to say.
"Isn't it just the greatest thing you've ever seen?" Dad put his hand around Danny's shoulder.
"Well...its definitely a thing." Danny laughed awkwardly.
Danny had hoped that when the portal finished it would mean he'd spend time with his parents. Maybe they'd give him more than a passing glance when he brought them his report card. He could share with them his dreams and plans to be an astronaut. Show them the stars and all his research. To prove to them that he was a scientist too.
But that didn't happen. None of that would ever happen.
Jazz warned him not to hope for too much.
"People don't change Danny." She said simply.
Danny still tried. He still hoped. That hope made him try.
That hope killed him.
Danny never told Dick the specifics, about the accident. Dick never pried, but he knew something wasn't right.
Danny would cry in his sleep some nights. Dreams of a life that was far away now. Dick couldn't do much, all he could do was hold Danny's hand and wait for the nightmare to pass in hopes that Danny would forget his dream when he opened his eyes.
Danny's body was scarred. Something he used his powers to cover but they were still there and appeared when the stress got too much. Dick only saw a small part of them.
Dick got a full view once of Danny's back once when Dick left him a change of clothes. Lichtenberg scars like feathered ferns ripped through Danny's left arm and back. Danny hated it when people saw his scars and the marks disappeared the moment he realized he was being watched.
Dick didn't mention it. Not even the faint green glow the marks gave off.
"Why does Batman hate me?" Danny asked peeking out from under his blanket. He was still shrunk down
Dick bundled the toddler up in the blanket.
"He doesn't hate you. He just...he doesn't like things he doesn't understand." Dick tried to not make that sound awful.
"He doesn't understand me." Danny sighed.
"And he doesn't have to. He won't do anything to you. Not with me around. I promise. I know you've been hurt before and you must have felt alone but you got me." Dick ruffled his little fuzzball's hair.

It is so, so important to me that people understand that Tim didn't figure out the bats because Dick was a "Show off". Like yes, Dick Grayson is the most flamboyant, dramatic ass man you will ever meet.
But the quadruple somersault? There's no way that was because dick was just showing off. Because you're telling me Bruce Wayne, who's so committed to hiding his identity that he literally acts like a completely different person out of the mask in public just to ward suspicion, would miss the fact that Robin regularly uses the flying Grayson's trademark move? There's literally no way.
In the comics we see Tim explain his deductive process to Dick and Alfred and they're both surprised impressed whatever. We don't see him explain it to Bruce. I think Bruce would be surprised and shocked that a 9 year old was able to put the pieces together but I don't think he'd be surprised that the quadruple somersault gave it away.
So if Bruce was possibly aware of such an obvious give away, why let it continue?
I'll tell you why.
It really comes down to the physics
So Dick was 9 when he started out right? That means the most he'd have likely weighed was 43kgs or roughly 95lbs in freedom units.
But Dick and both of his parents are gymnasts who tend to be smaller. So he was likely less than that.
In physics, rotating objects build up angular momentum (this is how bikes stay up right for example). The more rotation, the more momentum. And objects with less mass build up that momentum much faster than those that are heavier.
Robin constantly has to fight people who are nearly 3 times his size. I teach 8 year olds, they're tiny. A quadruple somersault for a small boy that weighs less than a hundred pounds is a brutal weapon. Especially if you add in the acceleration from gravity as he drops in from above.
And I can guarantee you this logic tracks because Dick literally utilizes this idea, without the somersault, in the 2009 teen titans cartoon.
Yeah, that's right. We're talking about the infamous knee drop.
Like it is borderline savage. Add in a quadruple somersault and the resulting force is nearly fatal. It's likely the main reason Batman would ever allow him to do it with the cape on.
Also, Dick landing feet first on the penguin in the first image probably gave the guy severe back issues
#I'm so tired of people giving Dick shit for being a show off#like he is for sure#but thats not what gave him away#it's strategic and practical#he's using the skills he already had in his repertoire to his advantage#also unrelated but#when Tim shows up to convince dick to be robin again#and has to explain how he figured it out#it was just after the arc where dick and bruce had to deal with tony zucco getting out of prison and nearly starting a gang war#pretty sure zucco dies sometime during it#but it brings up a lot of feelings for dick#which is the entire reason Tim finds him at Haley's circus in new york#then Tim immediately reminds him about his parents death again#and technically jasons too because thats his entire purpose for being there#point is#dick was going THROUGH it when Tim shows up#idk thought it bore mentioning#lena speaks#batman#tim drake#dc comics#robin#batman and robin#dick grayson#bruce wayne#nightwing#dc robin#dc analysis#a lonely place of dying#physics

Smol Au where Bruce heard one 1 detail about Tim’s home life and immediately went into Bat-Dad Override Mode.
Like, imagine Tim offhandedly mentioning something like, “Oh yeah, my parents used to forget I existed sometimes. I once had to fake a break-in just to get their attention.” And Bruce just freezes. Cue the world's longest internal monologue:
"Wait. What. What do you mean 'forget you existed'? What do you mean 'fake a break-in'? TIM, WHAT DO YOU MEAN—"
And the next thing you know, Tim blinks and—boom, Brucie Wayne has casually committed legal theft.
Paperwork? Done. Custody battle? There was none. Jack Drake? Doesn’t even realize he’s been replaced yet. Bruce just pulls some billionaire strings, has Alfred pack up Tim’s things, and suddenly Tim legally belongs to the Batfamily (As if he didn't emotionally belong to them already)
Tim: “Wait, what?” Bruce: “You live here now.” Tim (Scared of Jack): “But my father-” Bruce (Hugging him): “No. I'm done seeing you go back to a place where they don't care.”
Meanwhile, Dick, Jason, Cass, Steph, and Damian are in the background, going absolutely feral over the fact that Bruce didn’t do this sooner.
Dick is so happy he picks Tim up and swings him around like a ragdoll.
Jason takes the opportunity and breaks into the place and steals the expensive stuff that Tim mentioned he liked.
Cass just smiles and nods approvingly before immediately making Tim do some ridiculous high-difficulty sparring because "You are true family."
Steph is thriving because she’s been screaming about how her twin deserved better for years. More chaos fun for them now.
Meanwhile, Damian is pretending to be normal about it.
He’s sitting there like “Hmph. This changes nothing.”
Internally, he is losing his mind. “Father should have stolen custody a long time ago.”
He spends the next month being extra insufferable about Tim’s new legal status but also follows him around just a bit more than usual.
Then Duke shows up later, and the other Batkids make sure he gets the memo.
Cass just hands him a file labeled “People We Hate.” Jack Drake is at the top.
Jason corners him like “If you ever see a Ouija board, we’re using it to haunt Jack Drake.”
Dick just gives him the reasons straight
Steph just mentions it once or twice.
Damian openly insults Jack at a gala
By the end of the week, Duke is fully briefed and casually says “Screw Jack Drake” at the dinner table, earning an approving nod from Jason.

you guys i have so many thoughts about tdr. i have so much to say. like i don't want to be super mean but dude that comic fucking sucks and i can't lie i think it made me kind of homophobic actually

I love the idea of parentified Tim Drake.
Bruce loses Jason and isn't ready for another son. Tim sees this, he acknowledges this, and he's okay with it. He's never really been a son to his own parents so he wouldn't expect the neighbor to start taking care of him.
When Tim's parents come home, they're not mean or anything, they just don't baby him. They treat him as an equal--as someone who knows what he's doing--and that's fine, because he does.
He's been taking care of himself for as long as he could remember, so when people try to treat him like a child, it angers him more than anything. The way that they assume just because he's young he can't take care of himself.
Tim's been to galas before, though. He's talked with Bruce and the man never treated him like he was incompetent. Tim's parents would ask Tim questions about the company so that he could recite them to Bruce. It was a song and dance he was well versed in, but he didn't really mind, not when Bruce looked at him with such a fondness in his eyes, always saying, "That's really interesting. You know a lot about your parents' company. Did it take you a while to memorize it?"
And he'd shake his head and say, "No," because that was the correct response, even if it was wrong.
Even if he had flashcards about Drake industries and kept up to date with perception of the company and the stock value and who the shareholders were and what they wanted and what they were willing to do to get that.
It wasn't one bout of work. It wasn't a single night of studying to make sure he passed the test, but a lifetime memorizing information and then rememorizing it when it changed.
So when Jason died and Bruce started getting bad, Tim knew what to do.
He was used to long term projects where it would be years before he actually got to see any result. He was used to seeing adults as people who he was responsible for, though he had to admit that the responsibility had never been that big before.
When Tim showed up at Bruce's doorstep, he was young, just like both of Bruce's other sons, but his eyes lacked that sort of naïveté and childlike wonder that should have accompanied the baby fat which persisted on his cheeks.
That's what made Alfred pause at the door.
There was a kid. A black haired, blue eyed kid. He was young, like both of Bruce's sons. His lack of naïveté was something he shared with both children, only Dick's had been a fresh sort of loss, one he was still mourning, and Jason's naïveté was something long-forgotten and left to rot. It was a feeling you smelt when you left the windows closed for too long.
Still there, still somewhere, but not quite right and never able to be found, only stumbled upon in rare moments of something that could almost be called joy.
Tim's naïveté is something he left at home. He keeps it on a shelf in his bedroom, something to look at when the going gets rough, but something too fragile to be held.
Maybe that's why Alfred lets him in.
That day, Tim meets Bruce--not Brucie or Batman, just Bruce.
He meets a man who's hair's grown long, but not long enough for it to have been intentional. There's grease in his hair and bags under his eyes and you can tell that he's been biting his nails.
He's clean shaven, because that's what people can see when he wears the cowl.
Tim takes a deep breath before walking into the room.
Bruce doesn't move, but Tim doesn't doubt that the man notices him.
The room smells like alcohol--a smell he recognizes from when his own father is home, though he can't say he's ever remembered it smelling so concentrated.
"Hello," he says, when he's right in front of Bruce, "My name is Tim, and I'm here to help."
Bruce doesn't say anything, but he doesn't need to.
Tim talks to him, slowly distracting the man as he brings him to the bathroom, first trying to put a toothbrush in his hand and then, when that doesn't work, brushing the man's teeth himself.
Tim draws a bath for him and grabs him a new pair of clothes, and tells him to take his bath, only leaving the room when Bruce finally stands up and starts undressing.
Tim takes care of the sheets, puts new ones on the bed, and goes to the kitchen, to find Alfred already making food.
The butler asks him if he's staying to eat but Tim just insists that he's not hungry and brings the food up to Bruce.
He knocks on the bathroom door, and when Bruce doesn't respond, he opens it.
Bruce is sitting in the bath, knees to his chest, crying, but not otherwise moving.
So Tim rolls up his sleeves and washes Bruce's hair, then keeps him company as Bruce washes himself.
Bruce finds it easier to get things done when there's someone else in the room--talking to him, giving him something else to think about.
Tim talks as he gets Bruce out of the bath and hand him a towel. He talks as Bruce dries himself off and gets dressed. He talks as Bruce eats the lunch that Alfred made him and he talks until he gets Bruce back to bed.
He leaves, voice hoarse from talking so much after living in an empty home.
He comes back the next day and does it all again.
Alfred doesn't know what he should do. He knows, of course, that Tim is young and shouldn't be taking care of someone at that age.
He also knows that Bruce is in no state to take care of himself and all of Alfred's attempts have been in vain.
Tim's talking was what got Bruce to eat his first actual meal in a week--not just popcorn and protein bars. Tim's presence is what got Bruce to bed.
Tim was what was making things better, so while Alfred knew he should put a stop to it, he couldn't quite make himself do so.
Instead, he started doing little things.
He invited Tim to stay for meals.
Invited Tim to stay the night.
It took a while, but eventually, Tim started living in the manor.
One month, there's only ghosts in the house, the next, three beating hearts.
One month, Bruce can only think of his son, the next, he's calling Tim his dad.
One day, Bruce crosses the line as Batman, and the next day, he has a Robin.
You know how things go from there, some things are lost, others are gained. Some things stay the same, others do nothing but change.
Bruce and Tim get better, but Bruce still thinks of Tim as his dad.
No one really pays it much heed, though. That's just how they are--nothing really to note.
It's Dick, though, who starts noticing something's off, because Tim never sleeps.
When Dick was first adopted, he had nightmares.
He'd remember what it was like to watch someone fall. He did not watch it from the ground, but from the balcony, holding onto a trapeze, moments away from completing his own jump.
It took him months to finally come to Bruce, tell him about his nightmares.
Though he was never told the details, he knew it was the same for Jason. He pushed Bruce away, insisted that he'd be fine on his own, but eventually started letting him in.
He never asked, but assumed it was the same for Tim. When Tim couldn't sleep, when he had nightmares, when he couldn't stand to sleep in an empty bed, he'd go to Bruce like the rest of them did.
It was a reasonable thing to assume, and it was a belief he only questioned when he got up in the middle of the night to get water.
That same night, Bruce had a nightmare. Bruce knocked on Tim's door. Bruce slept in Tim's bed.
Tim ran his hands through Bruce's hair, promising that everything would be okay until Bruce fell asleep.
Now that he knew to look for it, Dick started noticing even more. The way Tim knew Bruce's favorite food and the way Tim took care of the man's company so that Bruce had the freedom to do what he wanted. The way Bruce turned to Tim when he had a problem or wanted to be told he did something well.
It was wrong.
It was wrong and Dick was trapped because he hadn't noticed it earlier. Why didn't he notice it earlier?
Tim came to him first, asked him to become Robin again. Dick knew about Tim from the start. Dick was there for the entirety of his stay as Robin.
He was there.
So why didn't he noticed?
Jason sees him panicking on patrol and Dick just breaks.
He breaks down in his brother's arms--arms he can feel tightening around him as he tells him everything.
They talk about it a lot after that. Jason starts noticing things too.
They bring in Babs and start making a file--compiling evidence because there's always the urge to just ignore it. To acknowledge that Bruce is doing better than ever.
But that requires them to forget about Tim.
To let the boy take care of Bruce and not live his own life.
Because, now that they're looking, they can see how lonely it is.
How he doesn't have any school friends--he had to drop out to take over WE.
How he's grown apart from Young Justice--always leaving when Bruce is in trouble or needs someone to talk to, not able to bear the idea of what Bruce might do if left alone.
Because Tim knows he'll break.
Bruce needs someone to take care of him, and Tim exists to fulfill the needs of others, regardless of how much it takes from him.
So Tim goes and helps his son. He never talks about how tired he is. He has sleeping pills to fix that, and maybe he can't take them because what if Bruce has a nightmare and then he can't wake up Tim--it's unimaginable.
Dick and Jason notice, though, and they try to bring it up with him, but they're not sure how.
Not when Tim's gut reaction is just to start taking care of them, too. Easing their worries, telling them that everything's okay.
They want so bad to insist that it's not okay, that this is going to ruin Tim and he can't spend his whole life like this.
But they want even more to be held. To be granted that unconditional love and care that comes with being Tim's child.
So they try to say something--anything.
But then, Tim smiles. He opens his arms to them and asks about their days.
And they they try to tell him that not everything's okay, but Tim is smiling, and they try, but they can't say a thing.

Four Times the Batkids Forget They're Adopted, and The One Time Damian Forgets He Isn't
It had started off as a joke, as most things do, and Dick meant nothing behind it, really. It was amusing to him, actually, to tell his coworkers things about Batman and pass it off as his father. “Oh my dad? Yeah hes not big on talking. He loves showing me he cares though.” (this was, of course, in reference to Batman doing three back flips and a kick split when Nightwing had patrolled with him the other day, a classic Nightwing move) But it soon…went deeper. Dick stopped making jokes out of it, and actually began listing things about Bruce. About his Dad. It didn't help that his police friends were actually interested. “So did you and the old man do anything fun over the weekend?” Dick thought back to how he had wanted to surprise Bruce by stopping by for dinner and instead had ended up in the sewer eating granola bars on a stakeout for killer croc, who had escaped. Again. “Oh yeah we had a picnic.” Dick nodded, smiling at Randy. “Yeah. He’s, he’s kinda bad at remembering when to eat a meal on time and all that.” Dick laughed. “Its something I share too. Must be genetics.” He rolled his eyes. Randy laughed, clapping a hand on his shoulder. “I hear you. My old man smoked all the live long day. I try to keep it down, but that addiction gene is just strong eh?” Dick chuckled. “Yeah I guess.” His phone buzzed in his pocket and he waved to Randy, turning to tug it out. It was one, simple message from Babs. “Ur adopted genius. What genes.”
Jason didn't even know how they had gotten on the topic. But here they were. “Yes. I got my mothers hair, of course, but I get my temper from my father.” Artemis was saying. “I have parents.” Bizarro grunted. Roy laughed, smacking him on the shoulder. “Well you certainly didn't get Kal’s looks buddy. But you do have his killer hair.” Starfire laughed. “That is true. I, for one, share my parents hair and have my fathers powers. But truly the best gene I was given were my mothers eyes.” They all turned to Jason. “What about you?” Roy asked. Jason scratched the back of his neck. “Uh, I used to have my dads eyes but um after the pit y'know,” He waved to his now green eyes. “And actually I have my dads dark black hair, and he’s graying early too, which might be why my white streak is so prominent.” They nodded in agreement. “But yeah, hes actually a little taller than me so maybe I’ll still grow a few inches but uh yeah. I don't… remember my mother enough to talk about her.” “Dang man. I wish we could meet your dad.” Roy murmured, laying a comforting hand on Jason’s shoulder. “Then we could really compare. I mean-” He laughed. “You sound like his carbon copy.” Jason frowned at his friend. “What do you mean? You’ve met Bruce?” They stared at him. “Jason,” Artemis began slowly. “Aren't you adopted?”
Tim hunched over the information form, eyes straining to read the small print. His hand reached up to stifle a yawn and he settled for a sigh instead. It was late, but Tim needed to get the form done before he went to bed, otherwise everything would be far too stressful in the morning. He reached over and grabbed his coffee mug, a dark black cup that had a red R painted on it poorly. Bruce had made it for him a few years ago when he had first become Red Robin. He sipped it, staring down at the medical form. “Gods I hate having to do this.” He muttered, but reluctantly grabbed the thick medical binder Alfred had obligingly gotten for him when he had asked for medical records of the family. Tim did not under any circumstances, want to have to sit at the doctors office the next day and somehow lie his way through all the medical questions relating to his family history. He didn't have the time nor patience for it, and it was crucial he was given proper medical advice what with his missing spleen. “Any history of heart issues Bruce?” Tim muttered, flipping back past Martha and Thomas to Bruce’s great great great grandfather. “Nope, guess not.” Tim was halfway through the form when he realized the blood coursing through his veins wasn't Bruce’s.
Steph rubbed a hand across her belly, staring at the monitor. “Your baby looks good Ms. Brown. They’re at the proper stage. Due in about two months. We’ll see you back here for your next check up.” “thank you doctor.” Steph murmured, sliding off the bed and dressing quickly before hurrying out to her car. The car door slammed shut behind her and she breathed, pressing her forehead to the steering wheel. Her phone buzzed. She lifted it and pressed it to her ear, hitting accept. “Hello?” “hey Steph.” Bruce’s voice vibrated through the phone. “How was your doctors appointment?” Steph gave a bitter laugh. “Everything looks good. The baby will come in about two months.” “Thats good. Thats real good.” Steph nodded, eyes closed. “You doing okay Stephanie?” Bruce asked, voice soft. “I don't know.” her voice broke and she squeezed her eyes shut, fighting tears. “I just- I’m so scared Bruce. So scared.” Bruce hummed comfortingly through the phone. “I know Steph. Its scary. And parenting, its hard.” Steph coughed out a watery chuckle. “Was that a hit?” She muttered, rubbing a hand over her face. Bruce chuckled. “No. Baby it wasn't. And just think, you’ll get to see all the firsts I didn't get with you. Their first steps. Their first wave. You might even get to hear them say mama before i kidnap- i mean adopt him or her.” Steph laughed again, and it sounded less watery. “Yeah. Well, when do kids start walking?” She asked in interest, sniffing and sitting up straight again. Bruce hummed. “Well i started walking almost immediately, but Im special.” Steph laughed. “Of course.” “alfred said i first started talking when I was around thirteen months old, and Talia said Damian was walking by ten, but she could have been lying.” Steph nodded. “Tell me more.” She whispered. Bruce obliged, happy to distract her. “Oh and whats probably going to be your favorite, babies, or at least I did, start laughing at around four months.” “laughing?” Steph gasped. “Oh Brucie!!! Thats too funny! Little chubby baby you, the future batman, laughing!” She cooed. She could almost feel his eye roll through the phone and stifled her laugh. “So yeah..” Bruce finished. “You should expect your kiddo to start walking around then. And laughing probably sooner. I would have if you'd be in my life at that time.” Steph was quiet. “Thank you B.” He hummed. “Anytime Steph. I’ll always be here to help you.” “Wait wait wait-” a new voice joined in the background of Bruce. “Are you guys serious right now?” Steph identified it as Jason. “What?” Bruce asked puzzled. “B, Stephs adopted. Her kid is as likely to walk at the same time you did as when she did!”
“Damian?” “Go away Drake.” Damian called back, riffling through the papers. “Dami?” Tim poked his head into his younger brothers room. “Oh hey kiddo. Whatcha doing?” “I am busy Timothy.” Damian countered in annoyance, shoving the box back under his bed and moving to his desk. “What are you looking for?” Tim asked puzzled. Damian ignored him. “Dami.” “Go away Timothy.” Tim crossed his arms, leaning against the doorframe. “Come on Baby Bird. Tell me.” Damian shook his head, covering the blush on his cheeks by poking behind the desk. “Damian.” Tim’s hand was suddenly on his back. Damian jumped. Tim held up his hands in surrender. “Just tell me. I’m sure I can help you find it.” Damian sighed in acceptance, cheeks pink. “I have.. Lost my adoption papers.” He muttered, staring at the floor. But Tim didn't laugh or ridicule him. In fact, when he looked up, his brother seemed thoughtful. “Well i know me and dick and jason have them hung over our beds…” His gaze drifted to the very clearly empty space above Damians bed. “I know.” Damian jerked his head in a nod. “That is why I wished to find it.” Tim nodded in understanding. “Well, lets go look in the den. Thats where Alfred keeps all the legal stuff.” Damian trailed after his brother to the living room and watched as he opened the cabinet and pulled out three boxes. “You look through this one, I’ll search these two.” Tim ordered. Damian nodded, accepting the box. It was where Alfred found them, two hours later, broom in hand. “My dear sirs, what are you doing?” The butler asked in bafflement. “Looking for Damians adoption record.” Tim answered, nose still in some papers. Alfred looked at them. “Master Tim. Master Damian.” The two boys looked up. “Yes Alfred?” Tim asked. Alfred's face was fond and utterly confused. “Master Damian is not adopted. He is Master Bruce’s blood son.”

Notes: this is part 8 to lucid dreams.
Warnings ⚠️: child neglect. Running away. And I called reader dumb...
'May the twenty second, 3 years ago....' You repeat in your head.
May 22nd three years ago, was when you had realized that you didn't mean anything anymore to your mother...
May the 22nd was when you guessed she stopped loving you.. or atleast that's when you figured out she did.
It was your last year of middle school and it was your graduation...
You had worked so hard to get good grades you took extra classes did everything you could to be the top student of your school... and you had gotten valedictorian of your middle school.....but you didn't care for the praise or the small medal they gave you.
No, all you wanted was for your mother to watch you walk up the stage and take your gradation paper and give your small speech that you had prepared so much for.
But she didn't show up..... no one did. So there you were in your small cap and gown giving thanks to people who weren't even there.....
You had taken pictures with your friends parents because you didn't have anyone else to take a picture with.
You didn't cry....maybe something had happened? You would be selfish to have gotten your feelings hurt over something as small as graduation if something bad had happened.
But as your friends parents drove you home you tried to think of everything bad that could've happened. Your mother surely wouldn't have forgotten...right?
You had reminded her so many times...she wouldn't have forgotten she never forgot anything that was about dick or Tim...so this had to be something traumatic..
Finally arriving into the manor you quickly thank your friends parents for the ride and hop out the car.
Finally in the house your eyes search everywhere for them...or more important your mother.
Finding her in the kitchen calmly drinking tea with a Tim, you breath a sigh of relief... she was okay..everything was okay.
Your relief doesn't last for long when you realize...everything's okay....why didn't she show up then?
You hesitatently walk up to her angry but trying not to show it.
"Mother....? Is everything okay?" Your voice is quiet almost a whisper you don't want Tim to hear you.
"Everything's fine." Your mother quickly brushes you off not even sparing you a glance.
She doesn't even notice your still in your cap and gown. No, Tim's the one that has to point it out.
"You graduated?" Tim asks in a stoic voice you can tell he doesn't even care.
You nod and look at your mother wanting to see her reaction... but she doesn't even have one.
"You were validatictorian?" Tim asks agian seeing the small medal wrapped around your neck .
You nod agian and look back at your mother but she continues sipping her tea looking at him. As if your not fucking there.
"That's cool.... it's pretty easy to get that though. I've already skipped a couple of grades. My teachers says that I'll definitely get validatictorian." Tim says and looks at your mother watching for a reaction just like you did.
But the difference? Is that she actually payed attention to him. She smiled a he spoke and looked at him with pride.
You wanted to smack Tim.
Of course he didn't have to stay up late studying like you did. He didn't have to ask for extra credits... like you did.
And of course he didn't have to work for your mother's attention like you did.
Because unlike for you..she actually cared for time.
She loved him...but not you.
Atleast not anymore.
Ignoring both of them you walk your preteen, heartbroken self up the stairs and into your room.
You wish you could tell that small girl to give up.
She'd never win her mother's love. You wish you could tell her that nomatter how long you study or act nice or train harder that her mother will never love her...
No, you wish you could her that her mother died the night she met Bruce Wayne...
But even if you did.. your preteen self would never believe you.
Your lay on the same small twin size mattress now. Three years later and yet you still feel the same.
But that would changed..it had to change.
And your not dumb. Atleast you don't consider yourself dumb. You know they're probably expecting you to leave.
You know they probably have all the cameras facing you window. And you know you can't just walk out the front door.
So you'll wait. You'll wait until the last minute when the sun is just barely above the horizon. And you'll go through the small vent in the laundry room. That only you know about....
You know kion said he'll wait for you until sunrise..but surely he'll wait a little longer..
Your bags under your bed it's already packed. There's not much that you packed anyway. You only packed the necessaries.
Clothes didn't really matter since your sure your father would make you burn them anyway. And you wouldn't need your phone or laptop. No, they'd be unused there.
So all you really have is your favorite stuffed animals and some pictures of your friends and jason.... and some of the books you and jason used to read.
You've already wrote letters to everyone saying your goodbyes. Some letters more detailed then others. Some with love and some with absolutely no emotion at all.
You watch as the clock hits 5am and you stand up setting the letter on your desk and grabbing your bag from under your bed.
Slinging your bag over your shoulder and quietly opening your door. You make your way down tha hall..
You walk passed Jason's room and everything in you is begging you to walk in and give him one last hug. To tell him that you love him one last time... but you can't.
You know you can't. Because your heart won't allow you to see him without not letting go.
So you continue your stride down the dark hall and down the stairs right into the laundry room...
Setting your bag down you carefully take off the small vent that you'll escape this prison from.
"No goodbye...?" A voice says.
You know that voice you know exactly who's voice that is. He's the only one that's went through this vent with you.
Of course he'd know you'd escape this way. Maybe you were dumb.....
And if his voice wasn't enough for you to recognize him the squeak from his cruches are as he inches closer. Because the joker fucking broke his legs...
His words are meant to be playful. To lighten the mood. But you catch the way his voice breaks slightly as he talks.
You freeze for a moment before you snap back to reality. You have to do this. You have to escape. You remind yourself.
So you continue removing the screws in the vent not daring to look at him.
"You should be asleep." You say and you know you shouldn't be so harsh with your words. These are your last moments with him....
"I'm not an idiot...I can't just let you leave." His voice is firm but it hard to take him seriously when his voice is so quiet.
You know he's looking at you and he wants you to look at him. So you stand from your squatting position.
Looking at him you don't remember him looking this small...maybe it's because of the crushes under his arms or his slightly bruised eyes...but it hurts to look at him.
"You promised you'd never leave me... you pinky promised." He says. His voice is so small and you can tell his voice still has that hint of baby tone despite him trying to hide it.
This was definitely going to hurt....
"Things are different now jaybird.... you gotta understand. "You say as you step closer. You want to hug him to tell him to go to bed and you'd be there later ,like you always do... but you can't.
Because for once you can't keep your pinky promise.....
"I ain't gotta understand nothing! You pinky swore.. You never break pinky promise...you taught me that...remember?" His voice is so hoarse like it almost pains him to talk.. and you feel the same way you did when kion was crying... useless.
"I remember jaybird....of course I remember.. but I gotta do this....for me..." Your words are true and......new?
You've never done anything for you.
Always for someone else. Always trying to please someone else...but now? You had to do this.. you had to put yourself first.
And looking into Jason's blue eyes you can tell he understands..like he always does.
And it makes your heart hurt more..
"Then take me with you."
You'd rather die then do that. Then take him away from somewhere safe..and take him somewhere you can't promise to keep him safe.
But you don't say that. So you settle for....
"Where I'm going...is only for me...it's not right for you..."
He looks down and you can see his small hands clenching into fist.
"One last hug?" He asks and you can tell he's given up. So you of course just like always fulfill his wishes.
Hugging him is different then hugging Kion... it's nice and comfortable... it's familiar.
Reluctantly you pull away... you don't have time to talk.. you have to get going.
He quickly wipes his eyes... and looks at you.
"If... if you go..I'll...I'll scream. Then everyone will wake up..."He says and is an empty threat. He probably wouldn't that.
"I'll be gone before they even get out the bed." You say and it's true. Your fast. Way faster then they are...especially in their sleepy state.
He sighs and you can tell..he knows this is it.
"Gotta go.." You say as you bend down and quickly kiss the top of his head like you've always done...he nods reluctantly and he doesn't even spare you a glance as you bend down to crawl your way through the vent.
"Sis....?" He says just before your about to go through the vent. And you turn back to look at him.
And you can tell the heartbroken look on his face will hauntyou forever.
"Yeah?" You say your voice just barely above a whisper.
"I love you. " such simple words..such normal words and yet they sting your heart.
"And I'll always love you. " That's it. Those are your final words before you crawl your way through the vent and out the other side.
You don't dare look back. There's nothing for you back there.
Atleast Not anymore.
Finally through the other side of the tunnel. Your quickly make your way out of the manor yard. Knowing all the blond spots of their camera system.
You make it to the town square fairley quickly and you reach the top of the tower where the Kion is waiting.
He smiles as he sees you. And you can tell he feels he's reliefed..
"I almost thought you wouldn't show.."
"Well,. I'm here..now..let's go." You say and he smile and a blue portal appears right infront of you two.
And it's the same portal that had brought you to gotham in the first place...
He reaches out silently asking for your hand. And you take his hand in yours and sigh. Your really doing this...
You look back and from here you can see the whole city..and the sun is coming over the horizon.
And for once... you finally see the beauty of Gotham......
But Kions voice brings you out of thoughts.
"Thank you sister...for choosing me." He says and he looks up at you with the same love that jason did...and for a moment it's like you see jason.
"Always..." Is your response and you don't know if thats entirely true...but you can't focus on what you said right now...
No, now all your focus is on the blue portal that Kion pulls you through.
...........Back at the manor.... the batfamily members came out of there hiding spots as soon as you left.
"You did it right todd?" Damians voice rings out. And jason flinches but nods.
"Yeah....I put it in her pocket when we hugged.." Jason's says quietly.
"You did good jason.." Bruce says as he puts his hand on jason shoulder in a 'im proud of you' way.
Jason nods still feeling sad that you had left, and your mother sees that..
"Don't worry jason...well find her..the tracking device Tim made will track her nomatter where she goes..." She says trying to offer comfort but jason doesn't budge.
"Yeah...Tim's tracking device better work though." Dick says almost glaring at Tim.
"It will...we had clark test it before. It works even in space." Tim says defensively.
"How long until the portal device can be used?" Your grandfather asks Bruce firmly wanting answers.
"We should have it ready by tomorrow." Bruce says just as firmly. Bruce can tell your grandfather blames this on him. And he can't deny that this is mostly on him.
"Good the sooner the better...." Your mother says trying to ease the tension between the two stubborn men....
And maybe you should've felt jason put the tracking device in your pocket...but I guess your just..... dumb?
Thanks for reading!! And I am not calling anyone dumb! So sorry if I offended anyone! 😔 😔 it's just for the fic.

When Bruce brought Mousy in, they had that new baby smell. The baby smell that always seems to be on few months babies. Which is exclusively why weekly cuddle huddles now exists in the manor. Just one day/half day in a week with the whole Batfam +Alfred huddled around in the living room under a giant pillow fort and they just relax and play with Mouse before eventually taking a short group nap to calm down a little bit from all the stress of vigilantism from the week.
-🍨
That's so sweet and cute. Allow me to show you what it looked like before they established the weekly cuddle huddle.
The Littlest Wayne: New Baby Smell
"The baby's gonna have a nose-shaped dent on top of their head if you keep doing that."
Bruce lifts his head just enough to press his cheek to the top of your tiny head instead, then settles back down into the couch. Tim rolls his eyes.
"How good even is the smell? They're a baby," he says, opening his hands. "B, my turn. Give."
"Hmm. Fine, but remember to support the head. They don't have any well-developed neck muscles yet."
Tim scoops you up and sniffs your face. Then he does it again at the crown. You make a low, curious noise, but otherwise don't care.
"What the hell, this is amazing." Tim turns and walks out of the room with you.
"Tim!" Bruce calls, offended. "Hello? Give me back my baby?"
"My baby now." Tim keeps walking and Bruce gets up and follows him until they're both in the day room. The teen sinks into the much more plush couch cushions and gently presses his nose to your head. "What do they do to babies to make this happen?"
"Google it. I'll hold them while you do," Bruce says, reaching for you again. Tim ducks away from his hands. "That was rude. Don't you have anything else to do today?"
"Cleared my schedule," Tim says. "I'm totally free. Don't need to do a thing but this." He sniffs you again. "Babies are so weird. Hey. Hey you. Yeah, hello, open your eyes. Hi! You're silly and weird and smell great. Do you know that?"
You squint, nose crinkling in irritation. Why is your warm bed being so noisy? You are tired. Silence, warm bed.
"You're bothering them. Give me the baby," says Bruce.
"You're bothering them. Go annoy one of your other kids. I'm getting my brotherly bonding in."
"Bothering? I love bothering people," Jason says, strolling into the room. "What are we doing?"
"Why are you here?" Tim asks.
"Cause I'm also nosy. Answer the question, Replacement."
After some gentle wheeling (read: Jason threatening to go declare himself alive just to make their already hectic schedules ten times worse), they tell him. Dick, who was passing by, hears this and peeks his head in, too, and it's not long before you're being passed around like a bong at a campfire so your family can get a hit of that new baby scent.
Damian finds his whole family another hour later, curled up in a big, careful pile around you and dozing.
"Ridiculous," the assassin mutters, whisking you away to be placed back in your crib. "Don't they know that smell is strongest at your head because it's coming from your brain, which you can only detect because your skull hasn't fully hardened yet? If you smell good, your parents won't want to abandon or kill you in favor of raising your stronger kin, thus greatly increasing your chances of survival. Classic evolutionary biology."
He lowers you back down into the crib. Instinctively, your tiny hand finds its way around his finger and grips it tight. Damian thumbs over the back of your hand for a moment, quickly checks over his shoulder, then leans down and sniffs your head.
"Bye," he mutters, gently prying his hand free and leaving you to rest.
