got the mast and sails up on the o'day!! the jib is. well. i could raise it and thats about the only nice thing i can say about it. the mainsail is in good condition at least! but the jib needs to be replaced lmao.

i have a new jibsheet which looks great, but pretty much everything else needs to be replaced. mainsheet, halyards, downhaul, outhaul, all of it. all the lines are the originals from 1973 and it shows. i dont think mariners have a boomvang that i need to worry about at least. we didnt even have a shitty outhaul and downhaul to work with, so while we were hoisting the sails to get a better look we grabbed some baling twine from the barn and used that LMAO

stepping the mast was a lot easier than i expected, though the forestay gave me a bit of trouble- i had to unscrew the bolts a bit for it to reach while my dad was holding up the mast and keeping it steady, and because of a slight bend in the bolt it reallyyy didnt want to reach. that slight bend lost me the few millimeters that would have made it easy to slip the pin in and be done with it. the line tied to the forestay i used to step the mast by pulling it forward.

at the end we lowered the sails, removed the boom, backed the trailer back into the barn, and put the mast on a couple of sawhorses so the top of the boat is ready to paint. theres a massive ugly fiberglass patch that needs to be painted over. ill sand it down and try and do a better one in the winter maybe, but its nothing to worry about now. the rubber trim in the throughway needs to be replaced, but that should be easy.
