A little reminder that the "scary" neurodivergents belong in the community too. The ones with intrusive thoughts. The ones who seem self-centered.

whenever people ask how ive explained to people, especially younger kids such as my roomates little siblings, how i experience pyschosis, or just daily life as a schizophrenic person, specifically delusions and paranoia, i use the horror movie analogy.

"you know when you watch a scary movie, and your super scared after? maybe you think theres someone in the dark or hiding, and you do unreasonable things like crawl on top of the sofa or run down the hallway so nothing can catch you. thats what it feels like for me. in the moment, it feels very very real to me, and it doesnt help when people go 'its just your mind playing tricks on you', because its so real to me its hard to believe. what i need, just like you would need if you watched something scary, is someone to sit with me and 'protect' me, or keep me safe. protecting me can mean things like 'if i do this, nobody can hurt you.' or 'im with you, i will keep you safe.' or, i need to do things i know will make me feel safe, such as a routine, turning a light on or holding a pet'. everyone will need something different, you just need to ask."

it helps people, especially young children or people who dont really understand even the basis of pyschosis/paranoia/delusions, put it into perspective from their own experience.
