A Breakdown of my New Impldoll 1/4 Plump Body (with a MNF Alicia head)
So I've had this body since April, as I ordered right at the release of the Impldoll 1/4 Plump body in real skin back in January/February 2024 to make use of the event to get extra hands and feet. I also got the Susu head, but I split it off with @poupeesdecirque (who made an amazing modded hybrid out of it) as I didn't need it.
I had intended at first to hybrid my DiM Gayane on the body, but then I realized that despite all the annoyance I had with her default body, I didn't see her as super curvy... So I decided to put my Fairyland MNF Alicia on it.
Here she is once I got her a dress. There is nothing slim about this body, so don't even bother getting her slim mini clothes, they will not fit. The dress is intended for Iplehouse JID girls with the glamour bust (my girl has the large bust), but I do think she can share shoes with MNFs from what I've noticed, as mine is wearing her old MNF sized shoes easily.
I'm gonna post the nude doll body pics under the read more cut:
Let's take a brief look at the body upon opening it. Look, no flat butt!! I gotta say, the level of detail on this body is insane. Like the detailing along the areola and the finger knuckles are beautifully done.
The one thing I am a little confused on is that her groin lacks all definition. It's just an odd choice with such a body, as she has even defined knuckles on her toes, but they haven't put anything there for girl dolls since the SGB Star Body, that one didn't have any crotch detailing.
Oh well, not much I can do about that other than mod it myself. But since my girl doesn't go commando, I don't care enough to add the detailing myself.
Now let's compare the Fairyland MNF A-Line girl body to the Impldoll 1/4 plump body. The Impldoll body is a good bit taller and thicker!
I took off the S-Hook and put a 3D Printed neck key on it as the neck would be way too short with just a washer. MNFs have really thick necks on top, so there is gapping, but it's no noticeable one the wig is on. Let's get a good turnaround view:
In the side and back view the gapping his more noticeable, but she stands solid. I did wire her arms legs as she liked to kick herself, but now she is great.
Impldoll even sent her with some coated wire to install as the owner. I used aluminum wire from my own stock as the Impldoll one was a titch too weak and thin to hold up against the elastic.
She sits easily on her legs, and can easily sit with her knees raised to her chest. The engineering is really nice on this aesthetic body, and Impldoll provides a lot of colors to choose from.
But do keep in mind any non "standard" colors (color matching and darker resins) there will be a good several month delay in getting your order. They mentioned this on their Instagram recently as people got worried about waiting 6+ months for dolls that others received within 3 or less months (I ordered a standard color, so it was fast).
I'll end the post with a small resin comparison. I have many other normal skins I can compare, to Impldoll real skin, such as DV normal pink and normal (yellow toned), 2D Doll normal yellow, DFA normal pink, TD Doll normal pink, etc... so just let me know if you want a resin comparison and I will do so.
Thanks for looking!

So the whole reason I've been wanting this Dollzone nb56-001 since it released was that I THOUGHT it was a small chubby body. Turns out to be bigger than my Limhwa dolls. 😭
This project doll does have other feet on, possibly Volks? But I don't think they make it any taller than default.
So yeah, this is absolutely not working for any of the hybrids I was going for. I thought it was going to be just a tiny bit bigger than the Zaoll on the right. 😖

First lucky(?) haul--
Couple of years ago by now, I snagged a Mystery BJD via online estate sale auction. Her pictures? Atrocious. Her value? Uncertain. Her authenticity? A mystery. I had to have her.
She was listed as a "OOAK Custom Monster High Doll," and I had the feeling that she was likely to be overlooked by monster high collectors-- I mean...
I wasn't lying when I said the pictures were atrocious. But hey, what's all that? Empty spot for..ears? Huh.
These pictures were leaving a lot to the imagination. Reverse google image searching, asking all sorts of other collectors and doll enthusiasts-- with their help we narrowed the head down to a Turb & Roxen sculpt by Soom. The body, though-- I'd have to get her in hand. So I did that-- 7 dollars was my winning bid. A lil' extra for tax and shipping and I was sitting pretty at round about 21 bucks. Well worth the risk.
THE ARRIVAL--
She arrived in a big ol' box some time later. I didn't take nearly enough photos, but here are the ones I have after first breaking her free from her cardboard prison:
I posted all these photos in a BJD discord I'm in-- with their help, we were able to narrow it down to an earlier Soom Little Gem release. It all looked correct-- weird lil' knee and elbow cups, all proportions, hands and feet easy to match up. Exciting! So far, she looked PRETTY legit! Yay! Uh. I mean kind of. We mostly came to a dead end. Yeah, looked to be Soom-- was, y'know, MAYBE legit? But finding pictures of all the older Soom bodies was harder than I thought it would be..and it seemed like whoever owned this doll mix and matched parts on the torso. Confusing. DONE CARING I WANNA PLAY-- Whatever!! I wanted to get right to trying my hand at faceup-- something I had never really given a go of before. Lets clean her up.
Alright, no. Nah.
I mean, yeah, ok that's better I think. I even found some old eyes that looked pretty nice! Here's a couple of glamor shots:
SO! Where are we now, two years later? Well, we know a few things-- this doll is -probably- a soom little gem body with a roxen & turb head. She's missing her ears and the body she came with is not from the same set as her head. It looks as if she's had her seams sanded down and, I'm just guessing here, has a boy torso top and a girl torso bottom. I think. That one I'm still uncertain about. She came with no papers-- so I can't ask Soom to help me confirm her authenticity. I've tried (and failed, haha) to find the original owner via old forums and old posts and groups in the hopes I could just, I dunno, directly ask if they had purchased her directly from Soom? Failed at that one, probably shouldn't linger too long on that anyhow. Might creep folks out, haha. I DID join a Soom facebook group and a collector who looked over the pictures said she felt my doll looked in all ways identical to her own legit dolls-- but she didn't provide me comparison photos, so, y'know. Up to opinion there. And that, currently, is where we sit with Mystery Doll 1. All signs point to "probably legit," and yet, sadly, I still have no way to confirm either way. I've recently taken her apart and cleaned her faceup off, I think it's time for a fresh look and some detailed photos of all the parts of the doll. I'll list those separately, probably tomorrow. Did you make it this far? Are you invested in this mystery? I invite you, too, stranger, to seek out answers. If you have a lead, I wanna' hear it! :) Till next time. PS: My eternal thanks to the BJD discord group, folks on reddit, folks on facebook...ya'll have put up with my obsession and curiosity for a while now! Thank you for all your patience and help. <3

Bahaha, so here's the other surprise package from my friend, Rae. It's a busted Namihu BJD Creatures Astarion she purchased from them during that charity drive for the dog that ended up dying anyway and HOOOBOY.
Apparently Rae hadn't even opened this package when it arrived since she was busy getting last minute stuff ready for Resin Rose so we have no idea how busted it was prior to her deciding to give it to me, but uh...dayum. Even his little dagger didn't make it in one piece (that I can glue back together though, most likely).
Honestly, even if it didn't arrived broken, this is still such a janky fucking doll. I cannot believe someone would charge people money for this garbage. I've been in the hobby for 15+ years and have owned and handled probably 80+ dolls from various makers and this is by far the worst body I've ever come across. This thing makes Resinsoul bodies seem like a dream in comparison. Absolutely unacceptable level of quality for the amount of cash Namihu charges. Genuinely embarrassing.
On top of the poor joint design, there are tons of cracks everywhere from the printing process. If this is the norm for 3D printed dolls, it's no wonder some faceup and modding artists don't accept commissions for them.
ALSO ALSO, learn how to properly wrap a fucking doll for shipping, Namihu. The taped up monstrosity I opened up was atrocious.
Counting my blessings I didn't bother commissioning Namihu for my CP2077 character's doll head, and it straight up was because the headback looked funky to me in what few pictures they have posted of it. It seemed like it'd have very limited head movement and I was absolutely correct. On top of that, because of how it was designed, it leaves scratches on the front of the neck lmao.

I recently bought an Imomo doll Miko! If everything goes according to plan, I plan on making her into a mini Frieren! I think her serene or somber sculpt, with a rounder face, will lend well for Frieren. I really like the Volks Dollfie for Frieren, but I think a rounder face would have made her a little bit more on-model, annnnd... well, Miko was about $100 shipped, which is quite a bit cheaper than the Volks Frieren price tag, ahaha. :'D
I've read that vinyl Imomo doll bodies can be kind of floppy, so I am prepared to stabilize her with teflon tape, wire, and even hot glue if needed. If I like her well enough, I am planning on ordering an Apsu. More anime-elf doll talk below the cut, ahaha.
I think Apsu would lend well to be a mini Dungeon Meshi (Delicious in Dungeon)'s Marcille!
I think if Volks was to do a Dungeon Meshi collab I probably wouldn't be able to resist getting an official Marcille doll, but at least they would be in different scales and probably have different hairstyles anyways!
Assuming I really like the Imomo dolls to justify getting a third 1/4 scale girl, I think I might get a Mie to shell Elf (or Sui) from Ojisan Isekai/Uncle from Another World.
I think Mie looks a lot like Miko - I think the biggest difference might be in her ears? - but I think Sui's design looks distinct enough from Frieren that it won't be a problem.
I love Uncle from Another World but I find it highly unlikely that there will be much in regards to new merch for the show (especially since season 1 has caught up to the manga already...) and getting a Sui dollfie would probably be highly unprobeable (lol), but I look forward to getting a little Sui. :)
Until I started thinking about which doll would suit which character, though, I hadn't noticed all three girls have green eyes. I think I've found reasonable eyes for all three on etsy already, so now I'm just on the hunt for a wig and stockings for Frieren. All of them will be getting removable elf ears but I am not sure if the 1/3 DD scale ears by GoldDin (recommended for their head size) would be too big for my tastes.
I think it looks really good on @catfishy2u's custom MDD Frieren, though! So I am probably over thinking it, ahaha, since I tend to veer towards smaller elf ears for my bjds... so I think that's messing with my perception a little bit. I did buy some elf ears secondhand for dollfie by B. A. F. Studio (unsure where they sell their products but I think they're Japanese) potentially for Marcille or a future dollfie.
I'll be testing the fit on Miko when both parts get here. Supposedly Miko will be here tomorrow, but I think Tuesday/Wednesday is more likely, but we will see! Although, seeing all three girls together, I think maybe the BAF ears would be better for Sui - Marcille's ears seem to be bigger like Frieren's in comparison. We shall see!

Scarlett - The Cursed Doll
@vivi-h3artz, honey! Here's what you asked for! Please don't tell Solomon to cook for me🙏🏻
I made a whole ass Word document when I first made her. That's two pages long and I'm just gonna copy and paste that over to here. Enjoy!
Appearance:
Pale af BJD doll
24 inches tall (~60 cm)
Long red hair up to her calf
Blue eyes
Pointy ears
Light blush covering her cheeks and nose
Small mouth
Big crack from her right cheek to her left eye
Small cracks around her body
Disability:
Due to the abuse Scarlett had to go through before being adopted by Sakura, she can’t walk properly and becomes tired fairly quickly. She walks slowly and “brokenly” therefore adding to the creepy factor people used to say the doll has.
Origin:
In comparison to the other dolls made by the Devildom doll company, Scarlett is one of the tallest and can move and is basically alive. Due to that people say she’s cursed. She can’t talk since the mouth has only been drawn onto her face and because of that a lot of people are creeped out about her quietly moving around. Since no one wanted to buy her, the owner took her away and put her in the storage room. By then the cracks already existed, because nobody “took notice” of Scarlett or ignored her and therefore her falling down from the shelves was a normal occurrence. And until somebody picked her up from the floor and put her back onto one of the shelves, a lot of people would have already “accidentally” stepped on her. (As tall as she is, there is no way people didn’t see her.) Scarlett never saw the outside world, only the store she walked around in and the storage room she later was put in.
Sakura adopts Scarlett:
Once in a while the company would travel around Devildom with those shopping stalls to promote their dolls better, since their store was quite far away from the center of Devildom.
Luckily for Sakura, this time the stall was quite close to the House of Lamentation and since the brothers knew about Sakura’s obsession with dolls, but never owning one, they decided to take her there and allow her to choose one which they would buy.
Since the owner didn’t like to leave the cursed doll in the storage room while he was gone, he took her with him and planned on hiding her before the customers would arrive. However, he forgot to do that before the Avatars and their human arrived and Sakura’s hawk-like eyes escaped nothing. At first, she was overwhelmed with all the beautiful dolls, but her eyes landed quite quickly on the tallest doll at the stall. She immediately fell in love with the doll, even with “all the cracks and being broken”, dear owner, thank you very much. (Sakura loves everything with “flaws” since she says that everything deserves a home and if no-one’s willing to take them in, she will.)
The owner tried to talk her out of buying that doll, trying to scare her away with making up gruesome stories about her being cursed, but Sakura was stubborn. Despite being a bit frightened of the stories Mammon and his brothers supported Sakura in her decision of that doll and tried to convince the owner of giving the tall doll to the human. In the end one of the employees took the red-haired doll from the shelf and handed her to Sakura, asking her how she would name her new doll. After admiring all the details and “flaws” of the doll, Sakura decided to name her Scarlett, because of the cracks looking like scars and the red hair (Thank you, @belphieslilcow). The employee also told them they wouldn’t have to pay for Scarlett as long as they would take good care of her, to which Sakura eagerly nodded and smiled.
Nowadays:
At first it took a while for Scarlett to show that she’s actually alive, but after she realised that Sakura wasn’t about to hurt her nor let her get hurt, she decided to open up. Scarlett is like a curious toddler, who wants to explore everything she can. (Can’t blame her on that.) She’s also shy and acts like a regular not-alive doll whenever there are new people. She’s clingy and gets upset if Sakura leaves her alone in the bedroom for too long.
Scarlett usually stays at home if Sakura needs to go to RAD, usually spending her time in Levi’s room while he’s doing his online classes. Except when Sakura is out of the house until almost dinnertime. When that happens, Scarlett needs to come to RAD, too. One time, however, the human forgot there was a meeting after classes that could go long enough until dinnertime. That day Sakura came home to a very upset-looking Scarlett in her room.
The others like to tease Sakura about being Scarlett’s mother, since Sakura has a habit of putting the doll on her hip when she doesn’t necessarily need both hands to where they’re walking. She also has an arm in front of Scarlett whenever she’s walking on her own a bit (usually in HoL, while Sakura sits on the floor or works on her desk with Scarlett walking on the desk) in case the doll needs to hold onto something before she could fall over.
Left: Scarlett before the adoption
Right: One of the many outfits Sakura puts Scarlett in after she took her in
#obey me#obey me mc sakura#my obey me mc#obey me oc#obey me oc scarlett#app for the pics is called Magic Girl: Monster for anyone wanting to know and i couldn't add cracks unfortunately

Thought I'd compare two similar 1/12 bjd bodies for reference since I haven't seen anyone else do so.
Ufdoll's animal body white skin (left) and a come4free's bonnie starry night (right)
First the ufdoll's I've had mine for two years now so mine might have yellowed slightly here is a comparison of a new white skin and the vanilla option. There is a tan option but it is not that dark and I have never seen it for sale on English sites.
Now texture and price. The ufdoll has a nice soft feeling I'm not sure what it is or how to describe it other than all my other dolls feel like standard plastic but both my ufdoll's have a almost fuzzy feeling on the surface. Price: I bought mine for 40$ but I have seen them slightly higher and lower but not by much.
Now for the bonnie.
Come4free's bonnie starry night is a blindbox doll meaning if you want a specific doll in the set it will be opened from someone to confirm which one otherwise its random. And yes you get the full doll head and clothes mine is just bare for comparison.
This is the 3rd line of Bonnie's this and the second have this type of body, the first run has a more realistic body. I only own one from this 3rd series but I can still tell you what I know about the 2nd
All bodies but one are white like an actual white not Caucasian. While unfortunately all of starry nights are just a pale Caucasian.
Now price and texture. I paid pretty cheap for mine looking for a sale and not caring which one I got they are all cute in my opinion and I mostly wanted it for the body. But average price for these can run about 20 - 30 $. Texture is standard plastic
Comparison photos now.
Bonnie (left) ufdoll (right)
I wondered what the hands would look like switched so here's that
Bonnie body ufdoll hands (left) and ufdoll body Bonnie hands (right) now there is a slight color difference but as someone who puts nendoroid heads with different skin tones than both on these things it's really not noticeable.
Feet both are very wide and will not fit standard doll shoes or socks in this scale. Bonnie (left) is even bigger and didn't come with magnets to put in their feet like the ufdoll (right) but has divets for them.
Knees bonnie (front) has a kneecap and makes a clicking sound while bending it, I actually like and prefer this it also stays in place a bit better than the ufdoll's (behind) as the smother joint will not stay in place fully bent as well.
Butts bonnie (left) has a bigger ass than the ufdoll's (right)
Back and more butts. Ufdoll (left) has more range of motion in its back and again you can see the bonnie (right) is slightly thicker in torso and butt.
Okay that's all I got to say of you have any other questions don't feel shy to ask me. ✌️

Silly little doll box opening (kind of) post for um a VERY heavily modified body :)
This is kind of a two in one post as I bought this head and it FINALLY came weeks ago and i have been waiting for his body to start working on him!
So the head was stuck in the UK for 2 plus weeks but he's absolutely gorgeous. Arrived to me with a slightly damaged faceup but he is probably the only more realistic styled bjd I'll ever get because his PROFILE!!!!! He's got such a gorgeous nose and such a kind smile, as well as the cutest ears that stick out.
^ stealing Dindrane's body (they are about 10 cm of a height difference so it did NOT work but it was nice to get a proof of concept for him on a body!) And him blank! Literally no pictures can capture how lovely he is irl 🥺
The body was a HUNT. His resin color is one that is very hard to match, much less when it's yellowed like he was (iirc he's about 10 or so years old) so I had been keeping my eyes out on the secondhand market. At the same time, I'd been HAUNTED by this very modified body that was the right scale but would be a ton of work to get it where I wanted it to be. I spotted this body months before I bought the head but continued to tell myself I would NOT get it because the amount of work would be immense. The more I looked into bodies and when I compared the one I had been considering, the colors were far too off. In the back of my brain, I remembered the body that I had been beating the temptation to get for months and hunted for resin comparisons. Funnily enough it seemed it would match really well or at least close enough so I bit the bullet and went for it. This body has been spray painted and sculpted on but it was objectively the best deal and the best match so I was pretty hopeful. (I love to get big projects and have 30 million of them). The neck measurements were also super close so I was PUMPED to get him on a body.
The body came to me unstrung (and I promptly forgot this information until I opened the box and was like oh fuck it is going to be a silly restringing moment)
I cannot even remotely emphasize just HOW big this doll is and how much I did not expect that. His torso (not even including his chest) is the size of my hand.
^ rough resin match which showed the head was a tiny bit lighter but I needed to sand the body anyways and it was lightly body blushed so I have pretty high hopes it'll match when I'm done :) or at least close enough! The tendril looking things are the sculpted on bits and I plan on keeping them a bit, but sanding some completely off and some down a little to fit my vision for him!
All unpacked and laid out! He's absolutely GORGEOUS sculpting wise, the detail on the hands and feet alone are more than worth it for me!
Like the veins and the overall sculpting are SO gorgeous. I'm so happy with him :)
^ kitty cat helper 🥺 i was having the fight of my life with this body because he comes up to me eye level when I'm sitting down. He's BIG. (Iirc nearly 30 inches tall) and very heavy!
I had to redo the stringing here but seeing him all put together was so so good! It fits his head size perfectly and is the exact body shape I wanted for him!
^ fully put together!! He's got so much personality and honestly is gonna be so so fun for me to work on!
^ next to my other biggest dolls. He is a UNIT
#twist rambles#bjd posting#dindrane#maris#aramis#<- sculpt name hopefully ill remember I tagged under this since he has no name as of rn#fun facts his dick is jointed. thats why im having to take extra caution censoring it bc it is THERE.

Some bjd colors and bodies comparison.
First: Dream Valley 1/4 horse body in light tan and cat body in coffee.
Second: the four different msd male bodies by Dream Valley (grey, white, pink, yellow). The white one here don't have human hands, sorry.
The yellow and the pink has tiny differences, the yellow is one cm shorter, has a longer neck, and a bit more defined muscle structure. Though the pink has more muscles on the back.
And lastly, four different 1/4 girls!
Lillycat Kitty Jolie in candy purple, Magicmirror Fafnir in purple, Dandelion Moon Vega in lilac and Rap1993 Anie in stormy lavender.

Yeah... overwhelming victory in poll so I am not waiting for it to end. :D You all get to see me gush about my BJD.
I named him Shen Bǎihé. Sometimes I just call him Bai. A whopping 68cm, Shi Ze model, full set, Loongsoul. Hmm, I picture him as a stage actor. His outfit was certainly interesting to put on. So much sleeve!!!! @.@ I just love posing him though. I want to eventually have backdrops and props for pictures. So I am saving for some tools to make them myself because bjd furniture really adds up the $.
Bonus: My friends Doll for height comparison. (All I remember is 17 cm dream body.) And my lovely limited edition 2021 dragon bjd I named Xiao.
Cut for those who don't like bjds.

I wanted to see these two side by side, because Kassandra was Val 1.0, and it’s fun to compare her to Val 3.0
It was a very difficult decision to reshell Val back in 2020, but I’m glad I did. I didn’t want to sell the original head though, so I got a new body for it and made it into a girl. It’s kind of funny that both heads are on DFA bodies!
Kassandra’s body was advertised as 68cm with head, but she’s closer to 66cm in truth. Val on the other hand was supposed to be 70cm but is actually 72cm. Funny how that works!
The what is what:
Sculpts: Dollzone Chen on a DFA 68cm girl body (Kassandra) & Simply Divine Thomas on a DFA 70cm Boy body (Val)
Eyes: 16mm brown glass eyes from ACBJD (Kassandra) & 14mm Small Iris SoulinaBox eyes (Val)
Wigs: CanCan J-Series in Ivory in 8-9 (Kassandra) & Monique Adorabel in Moon Black in 8-9 (Val)

All this time I was thinking the Rowan body was shorter than the older Limhwa body. But they're actually quite close in height 😦
I mean nothing super fitted in the torso could swap between them, but lots of modern clothes can. And the jumpsuit can!

Estate Doll #2: Doll Zone head, Mirodoll(?) body
WELL WELL WELL! Lookie what we got HERE.
(Frankie-cat approved)
More photos of the doll inside below the cut!
Aw yeah. Primo wrapping. Plastic bag.
I'm not sure the sculpt yet-- but I do believe this is a legit DZ head. Came with eyes that are sold on mirodoll still today.
Bless your soul I will clean you soon, I promise. Anyway, onto the bod.
Awwww..buddy your head...don't fit. Hm. So the body itself is.... eh. Not the best? There were some obvious flaws--
(..I don't think that's a purposeful outie belly button)
(That is deffo a resin bubble.)
Other than that-- there didn't seem to be any obvious seams (although there were a few inside some of the parts.) and I saw no markings. Off to the BJD discord group! They suggested the Mirodoll bodies--
I mean yep; yeah! That's the same body. (Images from here!)
I don't see any major differences other than the uh...horrifying head.
I hate it. So-- I'm thinking either it's a legit (and flawed) mirodoll body or...a recast of a mirodoll body. It's hard to say, as no one online during the INQUIRY had any available comparison photos of their own dolls. One person said they were pretty certain the body was legit-- that flaws were common in mirodoll bodies and that they didn't recall there being any marks on the insides of the parts. Well. Maybe we'll see soon? As per usual, I'll upload pics of each part of my boy later on down the road. For now, you get to sit here and puzzle with me. Enjoy the nightmares that gif I made will no doubt give you. <3

This was also a faceup I did for myself on a secondhand Telesthesia & DragonDoll Long Tianqi in normal pink. He arrived wit ha company faceup that made him look vampiric, but I wanted to shell a dragon, so redone he got!
The scales are super shiny and shimmery, which I love to do. He's not only a dragon, but also a pirate captain of a flying ship. The red dragon eyes were also made by me.

Review: 2D Doll 1/6-scale new body (normal yellow)
Above: Not a very graceful-looking pose, but a memorable one that shows off the poseability of the 2D Doll 1/6-scale body!
Summary: 9/10 would recommend.
Pros: Good poseability; two-piece torso; option hands are available; hefty, solid quality resin; reasonable wait time. If you’re looking for variety, this is also the shortest Yo-SD-scale body I know of.
Cons: No easy hand-changing mechanism; back of elbows have that sculpted nub which I find rather ugly; more expensive than other Chinese-made 1/6-scale bodies.
Note: I want to add that my 2D body came strung with extremely thick 3.5mm elastic (I usually use this thickness for MSD’s!), and with an over-sized S-hook in the head which I had to switch out for a smaller one in order to fit the kindergarten Kun-kun head pictured above. It was also strung so tightly that there was barely any give when I pulled on the S-hook. I wanted to keep it as it was for this review, but I couldn’t bear the tight stringing and ended up restringing the body the very same day, with slightly thinner elastic (about 2.5-3mm, which is still thicker than I usually use for Yo-SD’s). 2D Doll have mentioned on their Weibo that they are looking into this issue after receiving complaints, so this will hopefully change in future.
More detailed comments and photos:
Wait time: It took about 2 months to arrive, even though I ordered in February 2020, during the Covid-19 situation (to take advantage of a sale). Not bad at all. It came securely packed in an unbranded box (probably because I didn’t order a full doll?)
Sculpting: This is a child-like body with somewhat cartoon-y shaping. For ease of comparison, the body is pictured below beside the fairly well-known Volks body (also one of my favourites). Without the head, there is a height difference of almost a centimetre. There aren’t many other good bodies which are both in the same scale as Yo-SD and are significantly shorter, so this pleases me greatly.
Below: back view. Note the elbow joints which have a floating nub on the back. Visually, I find this type of elbow extremely unappealing... but I’m willing to put up with it in this case because the body checks all my other boxes -- and at least those armoured nubs are not on the knee caps (shudder).
The other sculpting point that irks me slightly is the swollen-looking ankles, with ball joints larger than the base of the calf - but I suppose they help promote sturdy posing. I should mention that the soles of the feet are not flat but are cutely sculpted with an arch.
Posing: As shown right at the top, this body crouches solidly and with little effort, which is no mean feat. The double joints in the elbows work perfectly and are not difficult to engage, so the doll can touch the back of its head and its face with ease. Wrist and ankle mobility is quite good.
The thighs are on the tubby side and are in all one piece with just a basic slot at the top. As a result, thigh mobility is slightly limited, though not as much as one might think. The doll can only sit with its legs spread, compare below:
Below: Kneeling is possible, both upright and on the doll’s haunches (”seiza” position), but again, the legs have to be spread. The double joints in the knees engage quite smoothly.
Below: The spread-eagled “suwarikko” pose is one of my favourites. This body can do it, but not as smoothly as Volks, Pettimal or Miyadoll. It can also sit with both legs bent to one side!
Below: Body can also stand with one leg in front of the other, or slightly raised.
Resin: The resin is heavy and feels very solid. I don’t see any traces of seams, discoloration or dust. It is totally opaque with a very slight plasticky look to it. I have no complaints, resin-wise.
Hybridizing notes: The body is a good match size-wise for my Mia Soo Smile head and kindergarten Kun-kun, which are both on the slightly smaller side of this size range. A silicone “KIPS” disc is needed for maximum head mobility. The neck is on the long side and could stand to be shaved down about 3-5mm (which I intend to do subsequently). I have since discovered that 2D Doll sells a “short-necked” version of their 1/6-scale body, probably intended specifically for hybrids, whilst the original version which I purchased has the standard longer neck (I surmise that the 2D Doll heads have a deeper neck socket than average). Be sure to purchase this version for your hybrid, if you wish to save time and effort. Edit: The standard body is about 235mm at the highest point of the neck.
Below: Colour-wise, 2D Doll normal yellow is an excellent match for slightly yellowed Volks fair - I’d rate it a 95% match. It is less peachy/ more yellow-toned than Mia’s new normal - about an 85% match. I will likely order a short-necked normal pink body to compare, and will update this review if so.
Option hands: A small range of option hands is available. Closed hands are usually some of my favourites, as far as hand poses go, but these ones are strangely bland and look like they were made out of plasticine. The standard open hands are quite chubby and cute, though, with detailed nails and finger joint creases on the underside. The main problem as far as the hands go is the lack of an easy-change mechanism. Combined with the super-tight stringing, I needed the aid of hemostats to be able to change hand parts.
Overall: You know how you can kinda tell, just by looking, that some bodies draw inspiration rather heavily from other well-known or market-leading bodies? This body doesn’t give me that feeling. I feel like it was sculpted from scratch, with a specific vision in mind. The end result is more individual than most 1/6-scale bodies now on the market, whilst also being functional and charming. And of course, there is that irresistible height difference, which was the main reason I originally purchased this body.
Purchasing tip: 2D Doll often has sales where bodies are up to 15% off. I’ve also noticed that a couple of multi-brand Taobao retailers list in-stock dolls at discounted prices, so you may want to take a look if you’re in a hurry.
