i’m so worried that the actual valid reasons to be mad at izzy’s death are going to be drowned out by all the numbskulls talking about “bury your gays” and “killing disabled characters is inherently ableist.” (there are ableism problems in the writing, his death is not one of them) that’s not what’s wrong here. the issue is it’s a wild choice that was barely set up and had no payoff whatsoever.

in my opinion, izzy’s life had barely begun. he had just discovered an interest in performance and makeup, he was adjusting to life with a prosthetic leg, and he had finally started to work through past trauma. his life was tragically cut short by some guy we barely knew shooting him in an act of cowardice and desperation. this might have been effective narratively, except it wasn’t. his death was more about ed than it was about izzy. the tragedy of this moment, that izzy still had a crew that loves him and a life to look forward to, that he was dying still believing that he deserved the abuse he went through, none of that was remotely acknowledged. in that moment it was all about ed and what izzy’s life meant for ed’s character. so, this isn’t a moral problem, it’s mostly a writing problem.

and maybe they’ll make it work in s3 and bring him back as a seagull or undead sea creature or give him more consideration/mourning. but until they fix this unsatisfying mess they’ve created i’m gonna be disappointed and a little mad. i just hope everyone is mad for the right reasons. because one the worst feelings as a fan of media is seeing two fellow fans who are both wrong argue about something you care about.

I’m sure Dumat being defeated the same year andraste was born means nothing

I’m sure this has nothing to do with the fact that andrastes mother was part of a tribe who helped the grey wardens fight and defeat dumat the same year she was born, meaning that she could have been a fetus affected by the taint in the proximity of a dying arch demon

And the fact that nobody knows which grey warden killed dumat, as seven wardens died from injuries from his death throes, and therefore we cannot actually identify a warden who absorbed his soul, means nothing

And I’m sure it is a complete coincidence that andraste had dreams and visions of the being later referred to as the maker her whole life, and behaved strangely, talking about hearing lost voices and seeing strange auras. That absolutely doesn’t sound like anyone else we know

Love the thought of Leo just casually being well traveled to absurd degrees. Like one day they’re facing their new Big Bad of the year and like, Draxum or whoever says that the key to their fight is located somewhere in, like, Latvia or some place, but no one knows where to start.

Then Leo’s like “oh I know a place” and when asked how the heck he could know of one it smash cuts to Leo falling through the ceiling of said place due to a portal mishap.

Also love the idea of Leo, being as accidentally (and then later, purposefully) well traveled as he is, sometimes taking his family on outings to different places all over, maybe to some new Yokai spots he found along the way.

In these places, Leo 100% lets his bros get scammed by tourist traps.

so, we know that abuse and victim responses to abuse are very central to aftg, but what i find interesting is how other characters respond to the victim’s reactions, especially when it comes to mourning their abuser. there’s something about kevin mourning riko, aaron mourning tilda, neil mourning mary, andrew mourning cass, thats so important to me because it really truly highlights how even when people are united through similar traumas, the differences in their situations makes it impossible to fully understand the relationship a person has to their abuser. neil, aaron, and andrew are united through the abuse, neglect, or - what the fuck is the word i’m thinking of? permit? condone? i mean, knowingly allowing it to happen and not intervening - stemming from a maternal figure. but neil can’t understand why andrew would hold on to cass for so long - he refused to let her go until aaron came into the picture. and andrew can’t understand why aaron would mourn for tilda, potentially viewing aaron’s grief as a betrayal of their promise. and they all ridicule kevin for his reactions to riko. of course, neil and andrew are also abused by riko, but they still can’t understand the complicated relationship between kevin and riko because, at the end of the day, they just weren’t there.

i mean this is primarily an observation but i really love how trauma and trauma response is depicted as nuanced, complex and overall just difficult to understand from an outsider perspective in the books. it reads as really real, and though it can be frustrating when a character doesn’t understand a different character’s response, you have to understand that their perception of said character’s response is warped by their own experience of abuse.

andrew bounced from home to home, never had stability, so obviously he held tight on to the first mother-figure that didn’t outright hurt him. his self-worth was probably low enough that he thought living with drake was a fine price to pay to keep cass.

neil only ever had his mother, and he’d willingly accept her harsh hands because he believed she was just keeping him safe from the very real dangers that were closing in on them.

aaron was dealing with an addiction, and so was his mother; he was equally dependent on her to avoid withdrawal as he was scared of her anger.

It’s wild to me that I have seen takes about how Tamlin should have stopped his father and brothers from killing Rhysand’s mother and sister as if he isn’t 14-15 (maybe 16) years old at the time. He is a child, especially for a species that lives forever! His older brothers were willing to kill Tamlin just for expressing an interest in being High Lord and we know his father was something nasty. What young teen is going to be able to go against a group of family, especially ones that have tormented him? He’s out numbered and terrified of them.

Tamlin is incredibly powerful, but I remember something in ACOTAR about him keeping his full abilities on the down-low to avoid provoking his brothers and father. He was so scared of his family that he tried to hide his incredible strength from them. How terrifying would it be to watch your friend’s family be killed at the hands of your own father and brothers and think you can’t do anything or they’ll kill you too. Tamlin doesn’t believe in himself, he thinks he’s nothing more than a killer, and so yeah! Of course this traumatized child would be unable to do anything.

(Plus we don’t even know what happened while Rhysand’s mother and sister were killed. Tamlin very well could have been dragged along or forced to watch.)

Oh I’m following the JP releases so yes, I yelled a lot back then when the event was out! It was soooo Leovil coded, bless them for the food! And we waited for so long to have it in the EN server damn! But oh boy, worth the wait! As I said, it’s like the official translators just gave in, no more effort to be subtle when Leona and Vil are interacting, they fully embraced the “ok it’s canon! Have your regular mom and dad flirting in vacations in front of the kids and the weird uncle. We tried OKAY?”

I’ll never recover from "I’ll show you the time of your life".

So yup, I’m feeling pretty delighted~ Plus I love the relation between Leona and Kifaji, (I can’t use "Neji" sorry) behind the railleries and criticisms you can feel how much they care and respect each other and it’s just pure gem for me, I root for them with all my heart (っ˘ω˘ς
