04x24 - Blue For A Boy
Taffy and Viv are patrolling an estate together. Taffy shoos a group of children that have gathered together in a large group and searches one of their bags. Alec calls Viv to ask her and Taffy to attend a call. Ken is trying to take a report from a burglary victim at the same time and a group of uniform are chatting loudly outside CAD. It all makes it very difficult to hear what's happening. Viv clearly agrees as she has to ask multiple times for Alec to repeat himself.
Burnside and Mike discuss the Yuppie Factor cos today's villain is upwardly mobile. "....You've been reading again haven't you!" Burnside sniffs derisively. As they return to the CID office Bob brings them a notice of a man who has been burgled twice in 24 hours. "Yuppies?!" Frank scoffs. "Hello, Heartbreak!" He greets Christine before escaping to his office leaving Bob looking very confused.
Taffy and Viv find a man behaving aggressively to a woman with a pram and 2 young children. Sam, played by Robert Glenister, claims they're friends. Brenda, played by Gerry Cowper agrees and insists it's a personal matter. Brenda hurries off to get her kids to school. Viv asks if there was anything she wanted to tell them once she'd walked on a few steps but she insists there isn't. Taffy asks Sam why he was threatening Brenda and he snaps back that he wasn't. Viv asks Sam who the carrycot in his car is for. Sam says it's his daughter's.

Bob is heard shouting at a drunk to leave the station. He tells him that he won't get any more warm cells or free breakfasts from them and tells him to bugger off. Alec approaches with what sounds like a mini-crisis, a broken water main and gas leak alongside a rash of dubious characters on the same street. Bob is on the way to do a Stranger Danger discussion so he promises to drop by on the way.
Malcolm and Robin are passing too so have a nose and can't see any of the reported issues. They do however spot a lady undressing by her window...
Tumblr media
Best to be safe and all that!
Frank and Mike have had 5 sneak thief style robberies of soft porn videos. He reckons the thief is copying them and selling them on cheaply to the public. A snout of Mike's arrives and arranges to meet him in 10 minutes. Frank is amused - he's been charged with indecent exposure. "So he'll be cheap!"
Robin and Malcolm are still watching the lady changing as she's apparently been trying on lots of different outfits. "Perhaps she's a model?" Malcolm muses. Bob spots them loitering and Robin explains that they're 'worried about the young woman in case she didn't realise she was changing by the window'. Bob sends them on the way with a warning to take their hands out of their pockets.
On his way to meet his snout, Mike is almost knocked over by Sam from earlier as he speeds by. Mike spots a pram rolling freely and is sent flying by a kid. This in turn causes the radio to fly out of his pocket and across the road. A van is coming round the corner and Mike lays where he is rather than trying to get up until the pram is hit by the van! Thankfully the pram turns out to be empty! He hobbles to a group of nearby people and finds Brenda in the middle screaming that someone has taken her baby. Alec and Ken forward the call about the abduction to everyone. June arrives and helps get Brenda to her feet. Brenda gives June a picture of her son, Billy, but claims she has no idea who the man was. "I don't know him, I don't know who he was. He's a stranger to me!" She shouts.
June brings Brenda back to the station and sits with her whilst Viv is in Christine's office with Frank, telling them what happened that morning. She tells them that Brenda definitely seemed to know Sam and refused to lay a complaint against him. Frank claims Viv and Taffy must have been half asleep. Christine says no one knew the situation would escalate like it has. Viv points out that Brenda didn't want help, Sam didn't want to take things further and had calmed down so it wasn't police business. "I still like that perfume by the way...." he murmurs after dismissing Viv (a) to try make Christine jealous and b) a nice bit of continuity from The Chief Super's Party)
Mike visits Brenda's house and speaks to one of her neighbours. Brenda is a single mother whose husband left 5 years ago. She works part-time as a supermarket cashier to help make ends meet though money is tight. Mike asks the neighbour if she thinks Brenda works as a prostitute. The neighbour says no, but she has had has occasional boyfriends and reckons that's who the father of her youngest is. He describes Sam to her and she says she can't help him.
Tony spots a red car that looks similar and flags it down to speak to the driver however it's not Sam.
Frank takes a hard line with Brenda and claims she's a liar who lied about not knowing Sam. "He just came up and started. I've no idea who he was." She says that she couldn't report it or speak to the police because she was in a rush. Frank says his officers heard talk of money and her owing him something and that they won't find her son if she keeps lying. Christine takes Frank to her office and tells him that he's handling it wrong and the concern should be for the child. The priority is locating the baby. He agrees to let Christine talk 'woman to woman' with her. "I'm not sure that being a woman has much to do with it." she drawls as she leaves.
Uniform search a nearby alley and gardens. A drunk Taffy and Viv spotted outside the library on their way to deal with Sam and Brenda that morning is found asleep in one of the garden sheds but there's no sign of the baby or Sam.
Christine looks through the pictures of Billy as she talks to Brenda. She asks if the man who has Billy will do anything to him and she says she doesn't know him so has no idea. Christine points out that he must know her routine given that he's spotted her twice the same day. She asks if he has any right to contact with Billy. Brenda insists he doesn't but refuses to answer who Billy's father is. Christine says he could have dumped him somewhere but Brenda snaps he wouldn't do that. She then asks if he knows how to look after a baby and that he has snatched him knowing that the police will be on his case. What kind of state of mind could he be in? Brenda pauses before telling Christine the man's name is Sam Rice and he's Billy's father. He's an estate agent who lives in a posh close with his wife.
Frank leads the way over and directs officers to surround the house and search the back garden. Frank tells Mrs Rice that he's there to speak to her husband. She is in shock and admits his office has rung and asked the same thing several times. Mike has a look around and finds an empty nursery that appears to be for a little girl. They don't have any children and were going to adopt an 'unwanted child' from Brenda who then refused to hand the baby to them. She says they were 'so good to her' and then asks what Sam has done.
A man called Henshaw played by Paul Bradley arrives, moaning he's been waiting to be let in for 10 minutes. He wants to make a complaint with someone in authority as he's been stopped three times in one day for driving a red car...
Brenda tells Frank that Sam wanted a biological child of his own but his wife couldn't have them. She agreed to have his child the natural way 'he was so clinical...' and he paid for her to give birth in a private hospital. At first, she insists she wasn't paid for it but then she admits he gave her £2K (now almost £5.5K) upfront.
Sam has taken the baby to the hospital as he panicked when Billy kept crying as he had no idea what or how to feed him or how to change him. He tells June that it's important to him that his wife, Martha, isn't told that Billy is biologically his. June leads him along after he takes one last long look back at his son.
Frank tells Brenda that the Chief Super will look at the statement and read her file and he will decide what will happen to her. Christine comes through and tells Brenda that her son is at the hospital and is being kept in overnight for observation but he's absolutely fine.

There are two ways I see that SpyxFamily can go with the Authens.
Ever since we've been introduced to the world of SxF, last names have always been an indicator of who exactly it is we're dealing with.
The Forgers are literally a Forged Family. No-brainer.
Yor and Yuri Briar: both beautiful people but with sharp thorns to protect themselves and one another. Their coloring and their characters are related to Roses and Yor is literally Thorn Princess.
Fiona Frost: Ice Cold. Frosty Exterior. Snow Queen. Warm and melty and obsessed on the inside.
Franky Franklin: Frank, honest and blunt. He's always up-front with Twilight since the beginning. Franklin also comes from the word francos meaning 'free'. He's a free agent, allied with Twilight but not with WISE, since he is an Ostanian. He's also the first true free-thinker, holding no allegiance to any state but cares genuinely for the people around him.
The Desmonds: meaning South Munster, one of the provinces of Munster. While it doesn't necessarily have a defined meaning, it is said that the lucky number of this name is 11, and Damian is ranked 11th amongst 228 students for the exams. Neat.
So Authens, right? Sigmund and Barbara Authen. If Loid, Yor, Anya and Bond are a forged family, then Siggy and Barbs are an authentic one from the getgo. Ever since the introduction of these two, everyone has both been over-the-moon and skeptical. It's nice to add new members to the family in this show. It's nice to see a foil (and an insight into the future for them) to Yor and Loid, where the elderly couple are genuine in their love, while Twilight and Thorn Princess still struggle with what exactly their fake relationship entails. Sigmund and Barbara trust one another completely, while the Spy and the Assassin still have ways to go on that front.
Now, Anya is being tutored by Sigmund, a former University Professor, Lecturer and Neurologist. Similar to Loid in a way, who moonlights as a Psychiatrist. The Authens aren't just being shown as a "what could be" for Loid and Yor as a couple, but as parents and mentors as well as seen in this chapter.
Tumblr media
Both Loid and Sigmund get into Spy Wars for the sake of educating their students. The difference however lies in the way they go about it.
Loid reads and watches the entirety of Spy Wars to show that he is a good father with a pulse on what his daughter likes, as well as an avenue for him to teach Anya since she responds well to the show. But Loid only memorizes the show and tries to brute force (relatively speaking) Anya's education with it.
Like... making a fake episode of the show just to try and make Anya interested in her studies.
Sigmund on the other hand really sparks a love and understanding for the material itself.
Tumblr media
Loid tries to force Anya to see the value in education through cold logic and goal-oriented thinking. Anya should study to Prevent War from erupting between Ostania and Westalis. Sigmund guides Anya into seeing the worth of education by itself. The joys in learning for learning's sake. Loid tries a surface level approach, where Bondman's adventures are hamfisted edu-tainment. He thinks that since Anya likes Bondman, she'll be tricked into learning by using Spy Wars as a coat of paint to mask a really boring lecture.
Sigmud correctly identifies what Anya loves about the story itself, and then uses those elements to relate to classical language.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Loid and Yor are committed to their duties, but it doesn't necessarily bring them joy. To keep children safe and happy, Twilight will lie and Thorn Princess will kill, but their personal satisfaction isn't something they bother about. Sigmund, on the other hand loved his job. He loves teaching. He loves the altruistic element to itcultivating minds, helping them along to their full potential, but he also has a personal joy in teaching.
Another thing is that Loid loves his family, but doesn't know he does and can't spit it out. He can come off stoic and cold. Sigmund readily shows his appreciation for his wife and for his new student Anya.
Tumblr media
What troubles me now is what happens next.
Authen does mean authentic. I have no doubt that Sigmund authentically loves his wife. His love for his research is also authentic. His passion for teaching is authentic. His admiration for Anya is authentic.
But what's the context of this authenticity?
See, the first route is that Sigmund really is just a good guy. A simple, kind, brilliant man who probably had a hand in building Project Apple from the ground up with the goal of improving people's minds, starting with dogs. Maybe it was co-opted by corrupt officials, twisting it into a monstrous organization willing to harm children and animals to realize their goals for a powerful human weapon. A weapon that became Anya Forger. Sigmund and Barbara leave, aid in the war effort for civilians and victims, and make a life for themselves in Berlint. I do believe this might be the likelier option.
But what if the contrast between the Forgers and the Authens is taken to the extreme?
The second route takes advantage of the inherent and subtle darkness in SpyxFam. This manga is just a bundle of gooey joy, but that happiness successfully hides the brutal truth of the world. Every character in this show is touched by war.
Anya and Bond are intended as living weapons. We tend to forget about this since Anya is a goblin child and Bond is floofy goofball.
Twilight and Yor are orphans of war, turned into the most powerful soldiers on each side. We forget this since both are idiots when it comes to anything each other and their family.
Handler is a level-headed badass who radiates older sister vibes for everyone who works under her, and she genuinely cares for her agents. She's also a depressed wreck who barely functions outside of work and constantly relives the loss of her husband and daughter.
The Blackbells? Posh rich folk, right? But their money comes from warmongering. Martha, the kindly mother-figure/butler/security for Becky? A veteran of war. The seamstress who is fond of Yor? Most likely an anti-authoritarian activist, since Loid clocked her immediately as being arrested for political activity. Maybe a former Red Circus member. Bazooka Bill? Funny kid who hit puberty way too early and has a hilarious deep voice. He's also being groomed to be a venerated soldier at the age of six by his father, who has most likely committed war crimes.
SpyxFamily is genuine in its joyful moments. But it barely hides the darkness that constantly lingers. War is a shadow that haunts these bright pages, and it always recontextualizes the zany adventures our family goes on.
What if the Authens are like that?
Everything about them is authentic. But they're also twisted. An authentic love for neuro science can lead to an obsessive march towards human weaponry. An authentic desire for world peace can mean that the end justifies the means, even if that means a telepath that could, theoretically dominate an entire nation. An authentic love for his wife could lead him to hiding everything from her.
Tumblr media
What if Sigmund Authen is authentic in every aspect of himself, and is still a man with a dark agenda? That would perfectly contrast Loid, a man who has faked every single element of himself down to his own name and identity, but has never once strayed from his goal of ensuring a bright future for the strangers around him?
What I'm saying is that it'd be really cool if Twilight, a living lie made human who will commit to any deception for the sake of children's safety and happiness would be heavily contrasted by Sigmund Authen, a man who lives so authentically to his creed that he is willing to put children in harm's way for the sake of World Peace?
With the upcoming chapters clearly focusing on Anya and her past, wouldn't it be cool to celebrate Spy x Family hitting 100 chapters by revealing more and more of its dark, haunting, war-torn world after more than a hundred chapters of Spy Family antics?
Tumblr media
Uh... Anyway, here's Comedy by Gen Hoshino.

My thoughts on Batman Caped Crusader
Tumblr media
Ok finished all 10 episodes of Batman Caped Crusader. Good cartoon but its not without flaws. Visually speaking its a great successor to Batman the Animated Series. The supporting cast is fantastic. I love this version of Harley. Way more sinister compared to her other counterparts.
The setting specifically setting it in the 1930s really helps it stand out from other Batman media. I really did not like how flat Hamish Linkletters Batman was. His Batman voice didnt really have any personality to it. Bruce is really cold towards Alfred in this. Its kinda off putting honestly.
Like it gets better towards the end but initially its very jarring to see. I do wish we got to spend more time with Bruce/Batman. The show is really trying hard to focus on multiple characters that you dont really get to know them that well. For example Harvey Dent is set up in the first episode and we know where his fate ends up, but its just that we dont get a lot of time seeing that build up so when it happens and what happens at episode 10 its like whatever.
Not to end on a bad note for this but I did enjoy episode 7 for the fun references IYKYK.

04x22 - Running Late
CID are running an operation and Jim and Mike are already bored. Burnside says they'll wait as long as they have to. They're expecting a security van raid. The boss of the company knows; he's an old friend of Frank's and ex-job; but the actual security staff on the vans do not.
Uniform are briefed to keep their eyes open for people stealing radios from cars as there's been a run on them lately. Bob also tells them to keep off the Dock Industrial Estate until 11am at the earliest. There's a shoplifting gang in action at the moment too and they're told to inform all shop security staff and management on their beats.
Claire is running late, literally running across the yard just before the end of the briefing. Bob is not impressed but before he can bollock her a drunk is brought in and distracts them all by 'dancing' with Alec. It stops him from telling Claire everything she missed.
Tumblr media
I swear Claire could have been Beth Green's mum. Not only do they look like each other, but they sound like each other too!
On the beat, Claire spots a teenage girl who is clearly trying to get away from her. She stops her - right near Frank's obbo. He calls in to try and get a message to 'the silly cow not a million miles away from my car.' to move on but it's too late, a security van arrives before Taffy can work out who it is. A red van pulls in not long after with Mike thinking that it is their target. They move in and force the red van to pull over with the driver shouting long and loud he hasn't done anything on repeat. When Jim opens the back all he finds is frozen fish. The armed Sgt mocks Frank for being let down by his snout as he calls for his men to get back in their van.
The teenage girl insists she hasn't done anything and stays quiet when asked for her name. Claire explains she doesn't suspect the girl of an offense, she thinks she might have done a runner or something. She has no evidence that the girl has done anything - she just felt that something was wrong. Bob - and then Frank - bollock her for ruining the obbo with Christine interrupting to get them away from her. The girl eventually talks to Alec and tells him that she's nearly 16 and is called Jane Woods. She's from the Boseman estate and then she bursts into tears.
Yorkie and Claire return the girl to the estate. Her mother doesn't look overly happy to see her and is less happy to see her accompanied by police officers. Her parents claim she runs away often but always comes back. They have to leave but Claire is still not happy and thinks something is going on. They're distracted by two chance youths trying to steal a car.
Burnside tells Jim to enter the fish delivery man into the collator's records because he doesn't believe that he's entirely innocent or unconnected with the crime. This is after he's made him search every single pallet of fish that was in the van so the others tease him about being a bit whiffy.
Also in the collator's room is Claire trying to look up more information about Jane and her family. Bob pops in and asks her to come and see him before she leaves to go back out. Jim gives her a pep talk about Jane and tells her to do it properly and check the address and voters register, not just the people.
Claire goes to see Christine and tells her that Jane doesn't have the surname she gave and neither does her mother. The mother has previous for theft and Claire believes she knows exactly why Jane runs away. Christine suggests she go speak to the girl.
Jim is found trying to clean his phone because 'everything still stinks of fish!' He's called away by Burnside who has just had a tip-off - the van goes round twice. It's likely their suspects will strike the second time. He calls Mike to get the armed police back to accompany them and to hurry because they have just 40 minutes to go.
Taffy tells him that they're going to be an hour, minimum. Frank can't wait so tells Mike to go get Bob and Tony who also have the pink slip to be armed officers. Charles says he doesn't like it but Frank pushes the fact that if he doesn't authorise them to go armed themselves then an armed robbery will go ahead and he'll have to break the news to two grieving families. Charles says he'll speak to Area Command but Frank isn't to leave the building without his command. Christine signs out guns and bullets to the officers though Frank chides her for not doing it quick enough. Brownlow calls through with permission.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Frank, Mike and Bob showing their 'pink slips' for their guns)
Jane admits that her and her stepdad are alone together a lot. She asks how they spend their time together but they're interrupted by a message on the radio. She asks Jane for a cuppa so she can hear it without her there and then looks around the flat and finds a room full of stolen property. Jane says it's all down to her mum.
Mike prepares his gun as Bob drives and Jim moans about being sent the long way around by Frank. "Just because I'm not tooled up..." he scowls to Robin. They get into position and wait for the security van to arrive with poor old Bob having to get on his tippytoes to see over the wall.
Tumblr media
Jim sulks that they might miss all the fun. Robin says he doesn't mind as he's got things to live for. "Such as?" "Well I'm married aren't I!" he said pointedly. The security van arrives and Robin and Jim have to hide quickly whilst a car speeds by containing men wearing balaclavas. Luckily they're too focused to notice the two policemen right next to them so speed into the yard. The officers make themselves known and shout at the robbers to drop their weapons. One does so Tony moves in to arrest him. Another makes a run for it with Bob and Jim chasing him.
Tumblr media
Jim drops down in front of the gunman and ends up held at gunpoint. Bob shouts that he's armed and after a tense standoff, the man gives himself up with Jim cuffing him and Bob securing the gun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
TSG arrive too late - Sun Hill has sorted it all! Frank enjoys rubbing it in the face of the Sgt who insulted him earlier.
Claire brings Jane's mother in. Frank recognises her. Bob congratulates Claire, Jane's mother had been taking her shoplifting with her and she'd had enough of it. Frank hurries through to tell Bob that they've got to let Jane's mother go - she's his snout on the shop lifting gang!
Tumblr media
Bob protests that Claire needs that collar. Before Bob can talk to Christine and ask her not to let her go, Frank is already there. As Jim put it, he's a hard man to live with!

Plot Bunny + Lily James, Once Upon A Time?
Okay final one then I sleep until I hit the newer ones I just got more recently tomorrow (and the Hunger Games one that breaks these up)
Barbara Thorne (Graham Humbert ship)
Princess Danaë Forsyth was always an adventurous girl, she wasn't as ladylike as some may like with her horseback riding and skills with a sword. But she enjoyed it, she traveled and explored the woods even when she was warned against it due to the constant risk of running into and upsetting the Evil Queen. Instead, she heard a voice coming from above. It was beautiful, but the only clue was the tower with no entrance. Days had passed, Danaë kept visiting to figure out a way in and with no other options, just started climbing. She found a man when she got up, with hair longer than she's ever seen and she fell in love. Unfortunately, the witch that stole the man didn't approve of the love, and sent him away, never to be seen by Danaë again. The witch made sure of that when she pushed the princess through the window and into the thorns below.
Barbara Thorne was a sad story in Storybrooke, the girl who couldn't see. The doctors couldn't explain the blindness, it's like one day she just got hurt. But Barbara lived fine, she could get by in life either way. The Sheriff was a big help especially, he was always kind to her and didn't doubt what she was still extremely capable of. But most of her time was with Mary Margaret, the woman let her be a teachers aide for some easy money and it was nice to spend time with the kids. Except when she starts having dreams, fantastical dreams of swordfights and fantasy worlds, she only feels like she can really trust Graham to not write her off, luckily with the arrival of Emma Swan, it seems like she might not be written off by anyone anytime soon.
