The thing that makes Yor Forger an amazingly written female character isn't that she has strengths and weaknesses. It's that her strengths and weaknesses are complex, varied, and just so human. Like I feel like people think that to write a "girl boss empowerment" character, she needs to be great at everything or that she needs to be one thing or the other. Like she has to either be strong and smart or gentle and motherly.

Meanwhile, there's Yor. She actively struggles to assist her first grader with homework and can't cook, yet she is incredibly knowledgeable about biology because of her side gig and can make one heck of a stew. She can perform inhuman feats of strength and parkour her way across a city, yet she's a total lightweight and loses almost all her coordination when drunk. Speaking of being lightweight, despite that, she is immune to many poisons. She can't handle more than a glass and a half of chardonnay, but pufferfish poison feels like nothing more than advil to her. She struggles to socialize and sees herself as a poor candidate to be a mother, yet she is the only member of her family actually getting close to Twilight's target because of her kindness. Also, while Twilight/Loid can look and act like a picture-perfect father, it's Yor that actually knows how to raise a child and how to talk to children. Without her, Loid would be screwed.

Yor, despite being a paid killer, is the humanity of her family. Anya is a child who, even with the ability to read minds, knows so little of the world, Loid is a spy who prides himself on his ability to disguise himself among civilians but hasn't actually known what it's like to be one since he was a child, and Bond is a dog, a future seeing dog, but still a dog. Yor for all her social awkwardness is what truly sells the Forger family. With any other woman, the Forgers wouldn't work because there would always be a strange sense of uncanny valley around them. Too perfect father, a child who knows everything but understands nothing. It's only Yor that makes it all click. A slightly ditzy yet weirdly ominous maternal figure.

The big day

I'm not going to lie, I teared up a bit when drawing Loid crying 🥺

This idea came from a beautiful insta reel where a papa is listening to her daughters audio before his bride (mummy) walks down the aisle. When I saw it I just couldn't help but imagine Anya and Loid. Of course I had to add his beautiful bride (beautiful like Anya ❤️)

I didn't forget my good boy Bond! 😭 I just didn't know how to add him at the time. But don't worry, he will appear more.

My family deserves real happiness, that's what I wanted to convey here. 🥺❤️ I'm hoping they get it in the end!

fun fact: in the German dub when Yuri makes up Yor's nicknames for Loid he said. Lollo. like lolli(pop) with an o. so that's what we call him now

Family is Concerned Over Local Man's Health if His Daughter Receives Another Failing Mark

Looking through the detailed art of the Forger Family home from the official anime guide and I'm floored at all the little details I missed.

Anya has a rug on her floor with a plum blossom design, and wjat looks like either a watercolor painting OR an embriodery of irises on her wall. Both of which are flowers that symbolize "promises." She's also has access to a balcony, because apparently Loid hates himself (although I'm sure Teen!Anya sure as hell won't complain about that). And the glow-in-the-dark stars stuck to the ceiling are a nice touch.

Yor's room is simpler in terms of design, but shendoes have one interesting decorative detail which is the kissing cat statues next to what looks to be a photo of a cat. Apparently, Yor is a cat lover.

Loid's room is almost completely devoid of personal effects, and the only detail that really jumps out to me as interesting is that he has a record player in his bedroom.

Today I will make my incendiary fandom post on *spins wheel* Spy X Family.

Look, I enjoy Twiyor romance and jokes about Anya asking for a little sibling as much as anyone. But I often really dislike it when post-reveal “they’re a real family with no more secrets” AUs feature Yor and Loid having a baby.

Because like??? It reads to me like people thinking that in order for the Forgers to be a real, perfect (nuclear) family, they have to have a biological kid. They have to have a baby and it has to be theirs, specifically. As if Twilight and Yor aren’t already in love thanks to their relationship and already parents thanks to raising Anya.

(Also, as if Twilight and Yor, two war orphans who know intimately how it feels to be failed by adults, wouldn’t consider adoption if they decided they wanted a second kid?)

I don’t think people consciously intend that to be the message. But it does feel like they don’t actually consider Anya to be Yor and Loid’s kid. Like she’s not enough, like for them to be real parents and a real family they need to have a baby and their own biological kid specifically.

It feels like people are looking at the family they’ve already built and saying it’s not enough.
