Cassandra Clare LOVES the grew-up-too-soon x babied-all-their-life trope

Clary was sheltered up until the events of TCOB meanwhile Jace was getting raised by Valentine

Kit was forced to grow up quickly while Ty was babied by Julian and his family

Sophie was cast out onto the streets while Gideon had a fairly nice upbringing (besides his dad turning into a worm but let's face it he deserved it)

Lucie was raised as the daughter of one of the wealthiest Shadowhunter families while Jesse literally died as a kid

And do I even need to explain Thomas and Alastair...

Just remembered how Grace had men in her life wanting her for her beauty and never bothering to know about her other qualities and Christopher Lightwood being the first man who admired her for her intelligence and her brain and Sophie after her scar said that now she will know who loves her truly and how Gideon Lightwood told her that he admired for her character, bravery and her beauty. Oh Lightwood men you will always be loved by men.

Of course Alec is an awkward sweetheart, his middle name is Gideon, and we all know how Gideon Lightwood was.

just got to the sophideon proposal scene in clockwork princess and wow. gideon's declaration beforehand, henry asking which one of benedict's friends gideon was going to marry, gabrily eavesdropping, gideon's apology and sophie correcting him that he hadn't proposed, gabriel's happiness when sophie corrects him, gideon's proposal, sophie asking him if he had practiced it and gideon using the word extemporaneous, their kiss being broken up by bridget singing about a couple who got married and died two days later, sophie saying she's going to murder her and correcting herself to call him gideon instead of mr lightwood. nobody did it like them.

Oh wait. I just realized Thomas Lightwood was named after Thomas Tanner (the institute's servant who died in clockwork angel ) AND they have the same build.

Someone tell Cassandra Clare to stop killing everyone's parents like Clary, Jace, Isabelle, Alec, Jem, Jessamie, Cordelia, Alastair, Zachary, Gideon, Gabriel, Tatiana, Jesse, Grace, Emma, Julian, Ty, Livvy, Dru, Tavvy, Helen, Mark, Kit, Ariadne and Magnus literally all grew up missing at least one parent

And now, we have the final (and largest) of the main five families; it's the Lightwoods!

The Lightwoods are in fact my favorite TSC family, which is why I saved them for last (gazing at my blorbos' names as a little treat to myself).

I still used the found family tree for a couple of the names, but it claimed that Isidore Lightwood was the son of Grace and Christopher, which is obviously impossible so I just assumed that he's now Alexander's kid. Also, (and this goes for all my family trees) I used birth years from the defunct tree but not death years, just because the only characters whose birth years are sourced purely from the tree are incredibly minor; while the death years are a lot more significant to characters we care about and therefore far more likely to be contradicted at some point. (Also I'm a squishy emotional guy and don't wanna think about my beloved characters having concrete death dates).

the fact that gideon’s first reaction to thomas saying he’s gonna spend the rest of his life with alastair was “i didn’t think you even liked alastair” is soo in character 😭 he has no idea whats going on but tries his best

My issues with chain of thorns aside, Thomas' come out was so fucking funny bc of how in character all the interactions were

Thomas, being the dramatic queen he is, simply decided to yell it out to his whole family without preamble and completely out of the blue that he's in love with a dude

Gideon ,our clueless sweetheart (bless his heart, he's trying), was like I wanna be supportive but I dont understand wtf is going on.you're in love? with carstairs? when did THAT happen? Help

Eugenia, another huge-ass dramatic queen, was like YALL HEARD HIM MOTHERFUCKERS,YOUR OPTIONS HERE ARE ACCEPTANCE OR ACCEPTANCE

And sophie, our always practical babe, was like enough chit chat all of you.When is son in law coming for dinner?
