Dear Stephie, ❤❤❤ on you and your loved ones and thank you ever so much for being an absolute blessing in this fandom <3 I've half a mind to stop the ask here, the most important being said, but I do actually have kind of a request ! In honour of arospec week (and of a very confused ace who's discovering only now that they MIGHT be aro in spite of having identified as biromantic for more than half their life) (yeah it's me), do you have any good/new queerplatonic Johnlock for us ?
Hey Nonny! *HUGS*
Happy AroAce Week too! <3 It's always "fun" learning something new about yourself at inconvenient moments, LOL.
Ah, sadly, I haven't READ anything new recently with a-spec rep, BUT I did recently reblog my ace lists during pride this past June and I had some fics added to them, so check out these lists, as they have been updated fairly recently:
Queer / Ace Relationships (Dec 2019) (Updated Jun 9/22)
Asexual Sherlock (updated Aug 22/22)
Ace Sherlock Pt. 1.5 (MFL)
Sadly I don't have anything specific to aromanticism (that I know of, anyway) but I absolutely want more if anyone has them!
Hope you have a great weekend, Nonny <3

Sure sure romantic pairings are fine and all. But more people should perhaps consider two characters loving each other to the point of incomprehensibility. To the point that there is no simpler way in english to define or describe it than just to say those characters’ names together, joined eternally by the vague conjunction ‘and’. There’s so many types of love and dependencies and emotions in general thrown in there that you can’t tell what colors they are anymore, they’ve just joined into a giant blobby mess that’s almost black, but when you look closer glistens with more colors than there are names for. Just a thought

Why are there not, like... platonic x reader fics. Like, I don't wanna date these characters, I just want to hang out with them and crack jokes and banter and get takeaway and play videogames and maybe even hug and bop them on the head and just have affectionate platonic physical contact??? I want to read a fic about being friends with them, and yet all I can find is romantic reader insert fics.

Honestly it’s so tiring having to fight for ace/aro hcs in fandom. Like they’re never anyone else’s first pick unless the character is nonhuman (usually robots and aliens, because of course) or inherently un-pair-able for whatever reason. If the character falls outside that slim margin by even a little bit you have to fight tooth and nail to find any scraps of someone, anyone with a similar interpretation to you. Even if the character does have stuff in canon that supports an ace/aro read it still feels like you have to fight to prove it’s there. It’s just thoroughly disappointing.

I love you fics that are people clearly just projecting their thoughts about being arospec onto a character.

Did any other aroace-spec people try to write fanfiction when they were younger, but struggled to write romance/romantic scenes? Because I vividly remember trying to write fanfiction when I was younger, but not really knowing how to write the romance because that wasn't something that I felt that much. And this goes for all kinds of romantic fanfic, reader insert, OC insert, shipping, etc. I tried writing all of the above, and every single time, I was unable to write, or even sometimes start, the romantic scenes, because I just didn't know what exactly that felt like or how romantic relationships started. And even when I could get through writing fanfic, it just felt SO unnatural and weird to actually write; like not bad, but just odd, like not realistic. But somehow, people really liked it, so I guess I did something right lol

Lucifer starts flirting with Alastor purely to annoy him
It’s the only time Alastor is actually at a loss for words
The only other person who would attempt to flirt with the radio demon is Vox, and he’s too much of an anxious idiot around Alastor to actually flirt with him openly

the struggle with being aroace in this fandom (besides shipping culture) is that like. I want to explore characters as aspec but I really fucking hate aspects hcs for characters that r infantilized. Like for example Cass is so often treated as invisible, a baby, or a pet that any exploration of her being aspec immediately sets of red flags. Same with Tim.
Which sucks bc it’s not like there’s nothing interesting to explore! Asexual Dick would be such a cool concept to dive into. I’ve been wanting to write a oneshot about aroace Tim who doesn’t get into relationships bc he ‘doesn’t want his cover blown’ and refuses to dig deeper. Hell, aroace Cass would be interesting if it subverts the above and is about her feeling like she’s failing at being a person, feeling like her aspecness is part of why she’s failing, and dismantling the internalized aphobia. It’d be so neat to see Jason thinking he’s a late bloomer before the pit and thinking the pit stole romantic/sexual attraction from him after the pit. I lowkey hc Steph as ace just bc she wears purple.
but like. I haven’t read many fics (in general but also in this fandom) that manage to write an aspec character without it being at least partially the I-dont-see-this-character-as-mature-so-I’ll-make-them-aspec thing. If anyone has fic recs lmk 🫠

okay okay okay I know we have the explicit ace and aro rep in Sif and Mira BUT have you considered
Sex neutral ace Isa (that's a very neutral reaction to "drawings of people doing fun things" you've got there. Very neutral. Surprising for someone who's very easily flustered)
and aromantic M'dame Odile! Bonding earring conversation where she says it's not really her thing, anyone? Sounds to me like everyone in this cast is aro and or ace.

Hello everyone! I had a new idea for a februari challenge 🌟
Within fandom, there’s a big focus romantic and sexual relationships, in my opinion sometimes to the detriment of other types of relations. Friendships, familiar bonds, queer platonic characters and aspec characters more often than not get the short end of the stick in these kind of spaces. I fear this notion reinforces amatonormativity and makes fandom spaces less comfortable for aspec folks.
In fanfiction spaces, gen fics are a good way to filter out romantic content! I love ao3’s tagging and filtering system in particular, as you can look up fanfics that explore non romantic relationships easily. I appreciate the ampersand and slash differentiation.
I would like to take the idea of gen fics further, and develop the presence of non romantic or sexual relationships in fandom spaces more. For example, I want to coin the term “gen art”! This would be fanart, that much like gen fics, explores characters and character bonds that aren’t focused on romance. I think it would also be great to develop a tagging system for platonic bonds. Creating this type of language within fandom is the first step to changing the relationship hierarchy we so often see there.
For this challenge, the idea is that for every day you create a gen fan work inspired by the prompt of that day. This can be art as the name suggests, but any type of media is welcome! Fanfics, art, edits, poems, moodboards, photography, the sky’s the limit. Don’t worry about skipping any days or changing up the prompts! This is all in good fun ✨💕
You are very welcome to join in! Please tag your posts with #genartfebruari so I can find them and reblog them 💖 I will be reblogging all entries! I'm of course joining myself too 😊
Even if you don’t plan to join, I would very much appreciate reblogs as it would help spread the word 🙏
It would be really nice if we could make this into a solid thing together. We could have fun creating together, but also try our hand at changing fandom spaces to be more safe and comfortable for everyone ✨
The prompt list (text version):
1. Hug
2. Goodbye
3. Pets
4. Garden
5. D&D Party
6. Birthday
7. Plushies
8. Pride
9. Cosplay
10. Comfort
11. Stars
12. Childhood friends
13. Dancing
14. Love
15. Reading
16. Snuggle
17. Karaoke
18. Picknick
19. Texting
20. Rain
21. Road trip
22. Silly
23. Found family
24. Movie night
25. Missing
26. Gifts
27. Reunion
28. Sleeping
