Me bitching about gender expression and why tumblr sucks ass about this when it comes to women

I submitted Dita Von Teese to a smash and pass blog as an experiment and I’m legit surprised she’s being voted as smashable in a landslide. Bc it’s always so weird to me when tumblr shits on basic/stereotypical/modern forms of feminine expression (baddies, bimbocore and y2k for lack of better terms, etc). Yet when someone does it weird enough like in a vintage glamour aesthetic then it’s sometimes OK. Though, most of the time it’s upholding gender ideas of stereotypical femininity or whatever and putting money in the pockets of billionaire men. Not true in most cases btw. Many bra, shapewear, makeup companies, etc are owned by women. Especially the former two, bc how are most billionaire cishet men going to know shit about the root of a breast and how different types of bras give different effects to different types of breast shapes and fullness. But it’s like why is it that it’s most acceptable on tumblr for a woman to dress androgynous or masculine but not to express their gender in such a hyperfeminine way. Bc you can dress however and still “look gay” AF, but even if not, who cares, it’s how someone is expressing themselves and their gender.

But when a dude works out and is buff, can knock down trees with his hands or whatever is stereotypically masculine, they defend him with the “HEY they’re not upholding toxic masculinity he’s just expressing themselves. Also please smash that watermelon with your biceps for me.” And they extend that accepting/enthusiastic energy towards men who don’t dress stereotypically masculine. Which I agree with but why can’t this energy also be applied to women who dress however they want.

Dunno I normally hate those posts that go like this but as someone into gender exploration, fashion in all its forms, not just how it looks but plays into the expression, social class, and economic status of the wearer, I think it’s ridiculous. Just so tired that men get a free pass on being stereotypically masculine. But women need to not uphold beauty standards even if they’re not extending them to others, since makeup is a set of products that inherently puts that mindset into a person. I understand it to a certain degree since makeup advice generally goes like “you need to do your makeup like this if you want this effect” and can uphold standards in this way, but working out is pretty similar in that regards.

Basically I’m ranting that tumblr still views gender in such a binary way that is detrimental to women.

I Saw the TV Glow is such a uniquely, devastatingly queer story. Two queer kids trapped in suburbia. Both of them sensing something isn’t quite right with their lives. Both of them knowing that wrongness could kill them. One of them getting out, trying on new names, new places, new ways of being. Trying to claw her way to fully understanding herself, trying to grasp the true reality of her existence. Succeeding. Going back to help the other, to try so desperately to rescue an old friend, to show the path forward. Being called crazy. Because, to someone who hasn’t gotten out, even trying seems crazy. Feels crazy. Looks, on the surface, like dying.

And to have that other queer kid be so terrified of the internal revolution that is accepting himself that he inadvertently stays buried. Stays in a situation that will suffocate him. Choke the life out of him. Choke the joy out of him. Have him so terrified of possibly being crazy that he, instead, lives with a repression so extreme, it quite literally is killing him. And still, still, he apologizes for it. Apologizes over and over and over, to people who don’t see him. Who never have. Who never will. Because it’s better than being crazy. Because it’s safer than digging his way out. Killing the image everyone sees to rise again as something free and true and authentic. My god. My god, this movie. It shattered me.

aHhh okay so the discussions of Titan!Megatron on @callsign-relic's blog have fully. FULLY taken over my brain and ive been drawing stuff for it for like the last few days nonstop

the tl;dr of this is AU is pretty much "what if Megatron got turned into a titan/cityformer as a form of penance/imprisonment and now roams the empty wasteland of Cybertron forever" plus "IDW Megatron has really fucked up internals so... what if that, but as a City?"

and of course since he's a Titan, that also means he has a cityspeaker... or three. One per sub-AU thing. Theres 3 options. 3 flavours of AU.

Hi. My battery is running out once again so design and art notes get chucked here instead of an image.

The cuffs and collar are hardwired into Megatron, so I made the lights the same colour as his biolights!

I imagine that on the tops of his shoulders there are solar panels, even if you can't see them here lol.

I really wanted to keep the swirly bits on Megatron's chest from IDW

Other art notes:

The second picture with the seekers is (loosely) inspired by a discussion about whether or not Megatron gets visitors or not. I thought about who would visit him and well... I think this is as close as Starscream realistically gets to visiting him.

Extra detail about that piece is that Thundercracker and Skywarp are keeping watch from above! Also drawing Megatron took me like 8 hours because I was struggling with his legs really badly kshffkbfkdsbdk,, the background went much faster, funnily enough.

Optimus specifically isn't wearing his Autobot badge any more.

This isn't relevant in this series of images, but Ultra Magnus's eye markings are only on the Magnus armour. His other two forms do not have them :] (... until he begins to discard the armour, that is.)

Megatron is roughly 3200m/2 miles tall. Technically he could have clouds around his knees, but I thought this looked a little bit cooler lol.

Also, height chart! Him big. I didn't even attempt to put a human for scale because that'd be. near impossible with this scale.

You know what’s astonishing about Katara? She grew up in a world without bending.

It’s not surprising that Sokka calls her bending ‘magic water’ in the first episode. It might as well have been magic to them at that point; they had never seen it in practice until they meet Aang.

So not only did Katara not have any teachers, she didn’t have any kind of guidance, no visual aids, no idea of how bending is supposed to look or work. The first time she ever sees actual waterbending movements is when she steals the waterbending scroll from the pirates. The first time she meets another waterbender is when she reaches the North Pole, where within weeks she outmasters pretty much everyone and goes on to teach the Avatar.

Everything she does is so incredibly impressive, and yet I can’t help but feel the most proud of her when she catches a fish on that little boat.
