hmmmm i have quite a few

i don't like luna lovegood. i think she's very irritating as a person and i would absolutely go batshit if i had to interact with her in real life. she is the wizard equivalent of a flat earther and an anti vaxxer, not a spiritual guide. hermione wasn't narrow minded for doubting her and xeno, they were the narrow minded ones for never questioning their beliefs despite the MOUNTAINS of evidence against them. rahhh she makes me so angry. (i hate that i have to specify, but this isn't misogynistic, i would feel the same if she was a guy.)

lucius malfoy is a relatively harmless guy, he's just slippery. he gives me such peacock vibes. he just wants to show off and look rich and not be questioned. (also he def dotes on narcissa and draco which is adorable to explore in fics <3 i think he would be an amazing father to a little girl and would have loved a daughter which i like exploring in my fics, but that's just a headcanon)

draco is the same way, i feel. iirc he's usually too scared to start shit unless crabbe and goyle are there, he just makes me laugh tbh. of course he does do and say some shitty things but i am just. unable to take him seriously. this may be because i haven't thought about his character in a while, but as of right now, i don't really see him as evil OR a sympathetic little boy. he's just. a little dude. (he is more dangerous than his father though, i'll give him that.) i mean if marauders stans are allowed to glorify james potter and put him on a pedestal, i'm allowed to have this.

percy weasley! i love percy so much, i think this is an uncommon opinion but i don't really know. i think he's amazing, i've already talked about him a lot on my blog so ye :)

i think the weasley family is dysfunctional asf. i don't think i personally can explain it, but this post by @/arkadijxpancakes does a great job of comprehensively analyzing their history and dynamics as well as showing why each weasley is the way they are. super good read!

albus dumbledore: i don't know why this is controversial but i actually think he was a good character, all things considered. yes, he did some bad things, but they were to help save the wizarding world in the end. he set it all up.

severus snape: i think he's awesome, deserved WAY better, and was a traumatized character who is severely overhated. please don't try to fight me on this, you'll just give me a headache.

lily evans: this is a very new opinion of mine but... i don't think she was a great person. i used to wonder 'how could james potter, a shitty little twit twat, end up with such a wonderful and kind and amazing person?' but i've come to realize, she's really not those things. she was kind of a shit friend from what we know. i still think she's very interesting, but not necessarily a good person.

harry potter!! i want to include him because i think that quite frankly he is an awesome little dude but is super underrated and borderline disliked by a big part of the fandom. though i personally feel like he could have been written better in some ways, i still love him tons and i think he deserves more appreciation <33 (also i adore the idea of an oddly specific au where percy and oliver team up to take care of lil tiny first year harry)

neville longbottom: this may be the most controversial one yet but i just don't feel the hype. i feel like he was largely unimportant in the first six books besides as a side character (but it's been a while since i read most of them, so correct me if i'm wrong) and yeah he was cool in the seventh, but like... i still don't feel it. he was pretty boring imo. i think i logically understand why he's loved, but i don't personally relate :/

(canon) james potter: hate him. -100000000/10. he can go die. (OH WAIT HE ALREADY DID!) i'm sorry, i just cannot like him. fanon james is awesome and super cute and lovable, but fanon james is a whole different person than canon james. if we compare young severus to harry, james is dudley dursley in literally every way. rich, privileged, gets away with everything, and loves picking on powerless and vulnerable people for fun. the only difference is that james potter tended to do it with a partner/group, and dudley could do it on his own. oh, and dudley apologized, i guess. it was pretty half assed but we did see him trying to be better with the teacup and stuff. they both suck, obviously, but at least dudley had a slight turning point. maybe i just don't like james because we never saw him be apologetic or regret anything in canon? idk.

cho chang: i honestly really liked her! i thought she and harry could have been super cute ever since i read the third book. now obviously valentines day of 1996 was a disaster, but i still think that if she and harry had met up again after the war and after they had figured themselves out, they could have sort of talked and apologized and moved on and possibly rekindled. idk, this isn't really as ~controversial~ as some of the others because i feel like cho chang is just more forgotten than unpopular or controversial, but i don't see a lot of charry content out there so i'm putting this here :]

one last thing i almost forgot, VIKTOR KRUM IS A FUCKING CREEP!! i used to be more hesitant about voicing this opinion because he's so loved in the fandom, but GOD DAMN he's a creep. as a famous, rich, popular adult, he asks out a 15 year old and is super nice to her and appreciates her intellect and is generally very sweet to her, but that just. that literally just sounds like grooming to me?? wtf?? i mean if i was asked out at 15 by an 18 year old, i would be VERY creeped out. also he comments on how attractive ginny (15 at the time) is at bill's wedding when HE IS IN HIS 20s. he then makes a comment along the lines of 'what's the point of being famous if all the good looking girls are taken?' HEY HERE'S AN IDEA, FIND A WOMAN INSTEAD OF A GIRL??

I hate him! I think he’s a weirdo, I could excuse him going out with Hermione was he was 18 and she was 15, IF he hadn’t said he found 16 year old Ginny attractive during Bill and Fleurs Wedding. I think that was just the author forgetting how old he was, but it upsets me. The idea of Hermione spending the summer with an older boy she barely knows in a foreign country without her friends or parents is anxiety inducing to me, so glad she didn’t go with him.

Otherwise all I have to say is that him catching the snitch when he did was stupid, they definitely had time to wait for the chasers to make more goals. His teammates were probably very angry with him after that.

i would like to point out that i think viktor krum is disgusting. of course in goblet of fire he goes with hermione at the age of 18 while she’s barely 15. then in deathly hallows he asks harry (who’s disguised) at bill and fluer’s wedding about ginny who was still 15 on august 1, 1997. krum was 21. i hate him and i hope he retired from quidditch due to a very painful injury.

As always, I agree with you! How tired I am of these statements against Hermione. Appearance is the last thing Harmony is appreciated for, since their relationship is much deeper than a sporty ass on a broomstick and a monster in the chest. But Krum, the world star of Quidditch, invited Hermione and called her beautiful, Cormac, who is not one of the guys who appreciate only the inner world of girls, became interested in Hermione. Harry noticed Hermione at the ball, and all that was said about Ginny was that she was wincing. Ginny's beauty is generally overrated. We find out that Ginny is beautiful only because Pansy said that many people liked Ginny, given that none of the Weasleys were described as handsome, I perceived that Ginny's popularity among the boy with a hormonal surge was rather caused by her superficial character

I’ve just seen a Romione shipper say Hermione is mid in attractiveness/looks (which just goes to show how they want to make her average-looking so it’s easier to self-insert themselves as her imo). To be honest, I personally wouldn’t find Hermione attractive in the HP universe. Canon says otherwise. It’s first apparent that Neville showed in interest in her, Viktor Krum showed an interest in her, Cormac McLaggen showed an interest in her, Harry described her as a “pretty girl” at the Yule Ball, Draco couldn’t find an insult to give her when he saw her at the Yule Ball (teeny tiny part that says a lot), and then there’s the drunk who hit on her in DH.

And most of this interest was gained after her teeth got resized to normal. And I think it’s more telling how specific these are compared to Ginny suddenly becoming the hottest girl at Hogwarts. And it’s a lot more realistic to think that a handful of people think someone is attractive instead of an entire school, especially in a world with a limited number of people, cuz of a difference in opinion/tastes in what one finds attractive of course.

In conclusion, Hermione is attractive, and canon does nothing to refute otherwise.

Krumione was,, a really interesting ship.

Maybe I'm just overly touchy or whatever but he was 18/had a professional career and was one of the most famous people in the wizarding world, while Hermione was a 15 year old girl still in school who hadn't even taken her O.W.L.s yet (power imbalance much??). It's kind of weird that he sought out Hermione, a smart but not so popular girl, when he could have asked, like, anyone else closer to his age.

At Bill and Fleur's wedding, he also comments on Ginny's attractiveness, which was... pretty weird? At this point he would be like in his early 20s but he's still looking at girls who are quite young (Ginny was 15 almost 16).

Also I feel like if his character was actually portrayed in the movies like he was described in the books (he more or less just looked like Snape but younger) the relationship would have a lot more backlash, but he was played by a pretty conventionally attractive actor... so...

I have to disagree with you about Viktor Krum.

When he dated Hermione, he was 18 and she was 15, and he asked her to spend the summer with him in Bulgaria.

Then, at Bill & Fleur's wedding, he was 21, and the two "women" he complained about not being able to dance with (because they were already taken) were Hermione (who was turning 18 about a month later, making her only 17) and Ginny (who was turning 16 in the next week or so, making her only 15).

JKR was trying to set him up to make Ron & Harry jealous, but she made him a disgusting creep in the process.

I literally JUST realized that you haven't done character analyses on the Fleur and Viktor.

You know, I don’t actually have spicy thoughts on every character in Harry Potter. I can’t even say I have interesting thoughts on every character in Harry Potter.

Eventually we’re going to get to the point where you guys point to some NPC I haven’t covered and I go, “Ah, yes, that’s an NPC!”

But that said let’s do this.

Fleur Delacoeur

I think part of the reason Fleur is the way she is is due to her Veela inheritance and constant combatting of rampant sexism and racism. Everyone treats Fleur like a sex object, even when she’s only a school girl. Girls see her as a rival and boys see her as the highest possible babe they could obtain. She’s someone who, dangling from your arm, will make you look good.

The Veela aspect makes it even worse as that adds this exotic spice to Fleur and I’m sure that for every smutty fanfic about Veela that exists right now in Ao3 there has been some boy in the Harry Potter universe who has said that premise to her face.

They say Veelas go into heat and must obey the command of their alpha mate, didn’t you know, Fleur? 

By the way Fleur acts, this has been every day of her life probably since she entered Beaux Batons.

She has to act cold and very serious because she will never be taken as seriously as her male counterparts. If she doesn’t ram her competence down your throat, every second of her life, then she’s just this dumb blonde who’s going to be a good lay.

Harry, of course, doesn’t get this at all and sees Fleur as an Ice Queen Bitch who looks down on him until he saves her sister. Really, it’s more that she saw what looked like Hogwarts blatant favoritism (having two champions) and putting this little boy into what is supposed to be this very challenging and dangerous competition.

To me, it’s very telling that Fleur ends up pursuing a career in a foreign country working for inhuman employers. Fleur’s promotions for the goblins are far less likely to be tied to whether she sleeps with her boss.

As for Fleur’s marriage to Bill, I think Bill’s one of the better Weasleys. Given Fleur’s personality, her ambition, and her general attitude towards life I don’t think she’d marry a man who doesn’t respect her. Bill probably acts like a gentlemen, is one of the few men who doesn’t bring up the Veela part, and treats her like a fellow human being.

Now, I think their marriage has issues, but that mostly pertains to the in-laws. Molly is not down with Bill marrying Fleur, because Fleur is not at all the daughter-in-law she envisioned for her sons. Molly throws a fit, never really gets with the program, and I imagine Christmas Dinners suck forever and that Victoire also has to deal with this bullshit. However, people have shitty in-laws, this is a thing that happens and why some people see their relatives only once a year.

Christmas will just be that time that Fleur puts up with Molly Weasley.

It’s also a little suspect that Bill marries Fleur when she’s right out of school, but they meet in the working place, from everything we see of the Wizarding World women marry young, and love works in mysterious ways. Given what we see of Fleur and of Bill, I’m willing to believe that theirs is actually a pretty good relationship.

Her mother-in-law is just awful.

Viktor Krum

Viktor’s a nice guy, Bulgarian, a quidditch star. That’s really all I’ve got on him.

To me, he always screamed being in the plot to a) give Durmstrang a participant that wasn’t outright evil b) give Hermione a first love interest to make Ron wake up and smell the coffee. 

Which is why he promptly disappears from the plot never to be heard from again after book number four.

Seems like he’s a bit torn between his career and school, I imagine his education might suffer a bit because of it as he has to do his work on the road, but he seems to make due and is a competent enough wizard to have been entered into the tournament (per the selection probably making him the best of his class). 

That’s it, seems nice, seems like more or less what he was in canon.

So, Snape. If you've seen my blog, you might have noticed that I wouldn't invite him over for tea. Maybe I would've liked him if he didn't bully/emotionally abuse students and not care if Harry died, as long as Lily lived.

An unpopular one I like would be......Percy. I honestly had to think about this 😅. Him believing that Voldemort isn't back isn't that unrealistic and he never actually felt as if his parents truly supported his ambitions. So it would make sense that he would try to start a life on his own. Doesn't excuse what he did, but people criticize him too much for this, in my opinion. Although, he was a pompous arse, he was good at heart.

The same could also be said for Cho and Lavender. I kind of like them too.

The only "bad" they did was "get in the way" of peoples' favorite ships. But their unpopularity in rooted in misogyny (people like Dean, even if he "got in the way" of Hinny. And Krum for Romione).

Sometimes I think about Victor Krum whose most important person in the world was the girl he had known for a few months and who as far as we know wasn't even his girlfriend.

While the other Triwizard Champions had to rescue girlfriend, sister and best friend, Victor had to rescue the girl he danced with. Was there no one else? I really feel so sorry for him... Fame really made him lonely.

I mean, I don't think Hermione would ever marry Harry, it's just not a route that that's plausible to me. That said, if she did, I argue she'd have it worse than Lily.

Lily's marriage, short as it was, seems to have been a disaster. However, it was a relationship, more James has incredible flaws but I don't think he would have ended up abusive to her. At least, not by the time she left. Harry though... He might honestly end up killing his wife.

Marrying Harry is a very bad thing that could go very poorly for Hermione.

As for who's the best choice, it's hard to say.

I think there were a lot of reasons Hermione did end up with Ron. Their relationship is also a disaster, but given her life, I think to Hermione he seemed like the safest and most stable route. Point being, I think there are few routes where that wouldn't have happened. There was a reason Hermione and Viktor's relationship tapered off beyond the long distance.

Draco's certainly not an option either. Draco doesn't even like Hermione. Hermione certainly hates him too. She'd be marrying a man who loathes her people, and marrying into a family and culture that loathes her people. And Draco would never, ever, marry Hermione. Lucius would disown and perhaps murder him.

I'd say the best option is Hermione grows up, is single for a good while, then marries someone we never meet probably through her work. She maintains her friendship with Harry and Ron, because it'd devastate her to lose that, but it's more distant than before and she's able to become her own person with her own life.

But if you're forcing me to choose a canon character... I guess Viktor? He seems to like her well enough, he's a nice guy, has good prospects with this quidditch thing (while he's young at least). Hermione seems to like him, would probably feel safe with him (Hermione's more intelligent than him, or at least probably imagines herself to be, and I think she will look for that in a relationship especially when younger. Her friendship with Harry and Ron is defined by her being the smart one, if she's not, then she could very well be abandoned and she knows it).

I think she didn't go for Viktor in canon because of Ron and Harry. It threw off the group dynamics too much. Viktor was nice, but he's in Bulgaria, and Hermione is petrified at the idea of being friendless.

So I don't think this would have ever happened. But I guess it's a thought.
