Touching on recent 9-1-1 fandom discourse, I think it's important to contextualise. You see, the thing is, I've typically in the past shipped non-canon ships, but they've taught me a lot about fandom culture.

Ngl, this kinda started with The Mighty Ducks (Charlie/Adam shippers rise) and keeps going onto fuckin Klance (I'm just mad about how the writers left Lance and Allura as individual characters regardless of their romantic status at the time) and Zosan (OPLA did not help this).

So I 10000% know what it's like to ship something and for it to never to be canon because that's like 95% of most ships (especially gay ones) in fandom.

I promise you...if Buddie doesn't go canon... you'll live. You'll still have the same fanon couple that you've worshipped for so long.

Just, please... stop the 'Tommy Bashing' fics just because he is hot enough to make Buck discover his sexuality (instead of Eddie). I don't have the energy especially when some people don't even un-tag Bucktommy with these fics. They still keep Buck/Tommy as the main couple even though all they're doing is making Tommy OOC and an asshole (idk I haven't actually read the fic because I muted the creator when I saw that's what they were doing)

This is all new to me.

Normally, I don't ship the canon one, but Bucktommy is cute, guys, and idk what to tell you if you disagree. There isn't a single interaction they've had (in canon, not fanon) to show you that they don't desperately want to know each other better.

My point is: YOU DO NOT NEED YOUR SHIP TO BE CANON FOR YOU TO SHIP IT. As a veteran, I'm so shocked at the entitlement of NEEDING your favourite ship to be canon because that's the only way it's valid.

Please, grow up and understand that things don't happen in this world just because you want them to. Canon or not shouldn't stop you from being able to enjoy the dynamic.

This is outrageous. Kennedy is a Qanon, anti-vaxxer, and deranged kook. He is not a scientist, a medical researcher, or a doctor. In fact he has no expertise at all regarding drugs, vaccines, or nutrition. He was a pretend attorney hired because of his family connections.

The common man thinks all rich people are smart and everyone with a degree is automatically an Einstein level genius. Studies have shown that the public has been conditioned to follow the lead of any tall man in a suit, or woman in business attire.

Just because someone dresses like a business person and knows a little more about issues than Joe Sixpack doesn’t make them a f—king expert. It’s easy for the ordinary person to believe in conspiracy theories when they don’t know how anything works.

The Dunning-Kruger effect doesn’t literally mean too stupid to know you’re stupid. Rather it is a cognitive bias in which people with limited competence in a given field overestimate their abilities. Neil deGrasse Tyson on his podcast Star Talk describes this as a hobbyist thinking they are on par with highly educated scientific researchers.

We have the entire MAGA movement thinking they understand everything because they read a blurb on the internet from random strangers with no credentials. Worse yet most of this “I did my own research” crowd are unwittingly being strung along by professional propagandists.

The Joe Sixpack crowd thinks Trump and Musk are highly educated and have a grasp of everything under the sun. In fact they each possess a bachelor’s degree in economics and nothing more. You couldn’t teach elementary school or be a librarian without a master’s degree. They are totally outclassed by the majority of politicians, statesmen, world leaders, financiers, scientists, medical professionals, and virtually everyone they come into contact with. They each have only two things going for them. One, they were born rich and two, they promote themselves endlessly to the masses as stable geniuses when in fact they are drug addled fools. Again the lower class thinks they are rich so they must be smart.

RFK Jr thinks because his law firm handled some environmental cases, mostly unsuccessfully, he is an expert on medicine and science. In point of fact he is merely the hobbyist Neil deGrasse Tyson has described. The hobbyist who doesn’t understand the big picture or the finer points of how anything works.

Public, and private education, hasn’t failed us. In red states which are now the majority, Republican politicians and oligarchs who own for profit charter schools have deliberately dumbed down education in their states. It is not the fault of the teachers who are mostly well educated and good intentioned fighting an uphill battle against the willful ignorance of Republicans who want an electorate of sheep that simply obey without question. Pile on top of that the radicalization of the red states masses by right-wing propaganda outlets and you have a recipe for disaster. For profit charter schools are underfunded, have lower paid staff (unqualified) and are not held to the strict standardized testing criteria public schools face.

I was watching a docu-series on the late Senator Bobby Kennedy this morning (I was trying to get a feel for how his son might campaign just in case he becomes a viable candidate. I still want Biden and will vote for him anyways due to the real fear that Trump is determined to snatch that primary nom but I am curious) and I got all teary-eyed when Congressman Lewis appeared on screen to talk about Bobby's work and being one of the only few white politicians at MLK Jr's funeral. And I remembered Bernie Sanders making this remark about John Lewis being a part of the Establishment and it filled me with so much anger that I had to get up and leave the room. Like this man marched side by side with Rev. King in Montgomery, Alabama and was beaten near to death by the police. This is a giant of the Civil Rights Era. And Bernie Sanders from lily white Vermont has the nerve, the audacity to call him part of the Establishment??

It just makes me so angry. So unbelievably angry and sad.

Well you see, as usual, Bernie Sanders knows almost nothing about American politics, and/or American racism. So.

Also: I don't think you can use anything about RFK Sr. to learn absolutely anything about RFK Jr. He's a joke candidate: an extreme anti-vaxxer backed by the likes of Steve Bannon, which should tell you all you need to know, purposefully thrown into the "Democratic" primary on some vague idea that he can siphon off votes from the most clueless people in America who see the Kennedy name and nothing more. He is not a viable candidate and should not be treated like one in any way, so yes, you owe him absolutely squat in terms of time, attention, or acting like he is a serious or good-faith contributor to anything whatsoever about the primary process.

If you, just like me, grew up labelled as a "good kid", it can be hard to finally go against what is forced upon you by someone's authority.

Especially when it comes to doctors and medication.

I've always been a good kid. I did everything doctors told me. I dieted, I kept taking more and more medication, I never spoke over them or against them, because they know best. Doctors are respectable, they are trying to help. My mom is a doctor. I got back some very shady-looking bloodwork as an adult and never questioned it, just assuming that I had somehow missed having been sick with hepatitis C at some point. The bloodwork turned out to be botched, and I had to go to another town to get it re-taken, showing that I have never, in fact, had hepatitis C. It is likely still a part of my medical records somewhere, though.

I am currently seeing a lot of doctors, as I finally have insurance and can get help for the smaller issues I've been having throughout the years. And yeah, it's kind of a mess. I keep being sent to different doctors from the same field, and they don't communicate with each other. They misread my papers, have trouble accessing my test results and scheduling follow-up sessions, they can be rude and dismissive sometimes, but overall, I'm doing fine, and I'm following their recommendations to a T. And they help, even if actually being listened to might have helped a bit more.

But sometimes, they'll send you to a psychiatrist to rule out some of your symptoms maybe being psychosomatic (because, you see, the only results of yours they could access were your most recent, good results, not the abysmally bad results you had at the beginning of the month, so now your abysmally bad results didn't sound real enough to them to still be causing any lasting issues), and the psychiatrist will be one of those types. The "autism is a terrible disease, but you can be cured!" type. The "you are sick in the head and must be immediately hospitalized, even though mental institution patients in Russia permanently lose some of their human rights" type, the "going into remission for your autism can cure everything, including your actual infections, and don't you dare not want to get rid of your terrible mental disease!" type. And, after pushing you, intimidating you, constantly switching the narrative and lying about what type of medication you are being prescribed, after refusing to elaborate about the side effects and essentially shooing you out while insisting you come back next time fully medicated (despite the next time not being covered by the insurance, and even the first time getting the psychiatrist up in arms about whether or not your insurance really covers it), the psychiatrist leaves you with a list of medications, after you have already extensively told them all about the horrible, life-threatening side effects you've had with similar types of medications before. You look these up online, and the side effects sounds like exactly the type of thing you want to avoid. Your mental health is not as bad right now as it used to be, your main problems are physiological, and it's not the right time to go and risk experiencing such a vast array of side effects that you were never able to escape with these types of meds.

But you want to be a good kid. A medical professional prescribed you medication and insisted that you take them. They also insisted on you coming back and checking in with them, about raising the "baby dosages" that had been prescribed. You are a good kid, good kids do what authorities tell them to! They take the medication and suffer the consequences, because the doctor knows best.

This is where you stop being a good kid and become a reasonable adult who doesn't want to risk fucking dying because they are dealing with some of the most incompetent medical professionals known to man.

I am still as pro-therapy and pro-medication as I was before, but I will keep on looking for a professional who doesn't make me want to write an official complaint about them three minutes in. They must truly believe that mentally ill and developmentally disabled people are incapable of defending themselves and exercising their rights.

Welp, gotta prove them wrong.
