I was looking at my gif folder today, and just wanted to post this to say, if you feel like you can't draw/animate something, keep practicing and don't give up !

I used to purposely crop animated shots in ways I didn't have to animate the difficult stuff because I had no idea how to. Then I tried and kinda hated the result, but this time I thought I would just remake it until I felt like it looked ok enough. I know my work currently is still by no means perfect, but I'm still pretty proud of it considering I hadn't really taken animation seriously until I started animating Philip about I think two years ago and taught myself through trial and error. The first Philip animation I had made was that timelapse one that was just very simple loops of him sitting at his desk because I was so scared to animate anything that "moved a lot", and then his story motivated me so much that this time I took it seriously and decided to just keep making stuff

summary: the fans finally figure out who your 'mystery boyfriend' is, basically.

warnings: swearing, reader is implied to be clean girl aesthetic and wears makeup, etc

a/n: its like 3am, its so hot... someone sedate me

a blind person would be able to see that you and schlatt were in no way similar. you ran your own, singular channel, where you gave advice, did cleaning timelapses, makeup tutorials, hair tutorials, the works. on the other hand, schlatt ran multiple channels, had multiple companies, and had multiple podcasts. he was everywhere, while you were in one place. no one ever thought that they would see this specific stream.

"do you really think we should do this?" you ask, unsure of him rather than yourself.

"yeah, what's the problem with it?" he shrugs nonchalantly, making sure the camera was in the right position.

"nothing, but.. you with your bits, and lore, and everything... you really think they're gonna be 'okay' with it?" you question, your voice quiet.

schlatt finally makes eye contact with you, giving you a look. you know he doesn't actually care about what people think, and has told you to not care, but you can't help yourself.

"listen, toots, whatever they say doesn't matter because i'm still gonna want to date you after this," he says in a strong tone, making his point known.

you nod and look down, letting out a tense breath and looking back up at him. "okay, let's do it."

the plan was for schlatt to be doing another tiktok reacting stream, and you come in to confront him about it. it was a bit that you couldn't remember which one of you came up with, but it was supposed to happen near the end of the stream. you had at least an hour to kill until then, most likely more.

you scrolled through instagram for nearly the whole two hours until you got the confirmation text from schlatt. you took in a quick breath and let it out, standing up and walking to his office.

"guys, we're almost at the end and not a single one of you has sent in something funny," schlatt shakes his head. "let's keep going."

"you said you would stop," you speak loud enough that the mic would pick it up from across the room. "you said you wouldn't react anymore."

this makes schlatt pause and put the camera into full screen mode, so more of the room and chat was visible. "listen, it's just one stream-"

"no, you said you were going to stop," you walk closer, the side of your torso now in frame. chat started to question what was going on and who had walked in.

"it's just- this is what they wanted," he defends, a small smile on his face.

"you said you were going to rehab, you're tearing this family apart," you say, fake crying until a loud, long meow came from your feet.

"oh! hi, jambo." you giggle, looking down at the cat that stared up at you, rubbing against your legs.

you pick up the orange kitty and hold him in front of the camera, letting chat get a good look at him. you set him down on the desk after a moment, and schlatt moves his chair back into focus of the camera.

"did you guys like that bit?" he asks, but the chat was still questioning who this person was in the first place.

you walk over and pull your own office chair away from your desk, the one that sat right next to schlatt's, and sat down next to him, finally showing your face to the camera.

screams filled the chat, people freaking out that schlatt had someone like you on his stream. "I actually expected you all to not know who I was," you laugh, playing with the necklace that sat across your neck.

"this is my girlfriend, you all need to be nice," schlatt says in a patronizing tone. you both read chat for a moment until a TTS comes through.

"schlatt gets game? that's crazy." it says, making you both laugh.

"no, i'm just here as a publicity stunt actually, the viewers were going down." you say jokingly, looking over at schlatt.

"yeah, money was getting tight, I needed an extra couple dollars." you both laugh at the joke.

playful banter and answering questions goes on for about twenty minutes, and everything goes fine to the end of the stream. schlatt ends it, and a still presence enters the room. he huffs and sits back in his chair.

"we'll find out tomorrow, huh." I say, sounding like more of a statement than a question.

"guess so," he says, looking over at you. a comfortable silence falls over the two of you as you gaze into each others eyes.

"i love you," you break the silence first, speaking quietly.

"love you more." he responds in the same tone.

this bastard was the reason this took so long. this asshole dealt so much mental damage to me i fucking hate him (joking) (he's fine) (i like him a lot actually he's a cool character)

figuring out the pose and composition was the worst part honestly. i had a precise idea early on of what i wanted for the scale (fancy metal scale, with the cyan/yellow eye on one side and a pile of monster souls on the other, with the eye weighing more), but finding out how to arrange it into something readable was really hard.

honestly now that it's over i might've overthought it, but i think having this many points of interest did work against me

the point of the scale, and Horror tipping it to the side of the eye, is pretty much to illustrate his breaking point in the comic. when (spoiler!) even after the core started working and everyone got (seemingly) saved from famine, he chose to destroy it and doom everyone out of pettiness because his eye being stolen was more important to him (which like, granted, undyne could've gone about this way better, but the way horror reacted really makes him an asshole)

i'm sure you know the answer, but im gonna say it anyway: (because i want to >:] )

Why Horror as Famine?

the og choice is obvious (he's the one in the group who's story fits the most with the theme) but i actually really like the thought process i had for it

famine is associated with: the color black, a scale (for weighing stuff to sell), and famine (self-explanatory). asides from famine, nothing really screams horror sans, so i really went all in with the theme on this one.

the big thing i tried to do with the 4 of them was: they aren't only affected by the themes of their horsemen, they are also the people bringing it and spreading it to others: - Dust is a victim of conquest, as in gets killed by the human going through and "conquering" the underground, but also "conquers" part of the underground himself by killing monsters/getting their exp in order to fight back - Killer is a victim of war, as in forced to fight monsters against his own will after he made a pact with chara, but also he himself starts conflict/war against his own people on his own terms and for his own enjoyment/benefit - Nightmare... well you'll see it in his own post but i'm sure you can already figure it out :)

so for Horror, he's obviously a victim of famine, he's starving, everyone is. but for the horseman of famine (or at least in the interpretation of the bible that i'm using (the one from wikipedia)), famine is man-made. it's economic famine, choosing to increase the price of basic necessities while keeping luxury products the same. obviously it's not directly applicable to horrortale, but it being a conscious, human(or monster)-made thing is what im running with.

but basically, horror is a victim of famine, specifically the one created by frisk's choice (leaving the monsters trapped underground). but he's also the one who brought famine to everyone left in the underground by destroying the core.

So, we have this doodle with evil Flowey

It's depends on background what colours i will use or what mood of a character i want to create. This time it's just the dark depths of the underground and the light falling from the surface. I'm roughly layering the colors as if they were just chunks of paint. I'm painting directly on the sketch layer, so I'm getting messy shadows. Not tryna to make any details yet

Then, im adding colors in shades. So far it's just gray-blue shadows on his face and petals what im blending into those messy black shadows

Then the light. It's just brighter colors for his adorable face and petals. I also changed color for shades on his petals

And then the details. I used only one brush when coloring Flowey himself, similar to a paint brush, but now I took a basic flat csp marker to circle his eyes, enhance the light on his face, teeth and add other details. I also removed the sketch off his petals to make them look cleaner with sharp eraser brush, added some light yellow reflections on his cheeks and jaw

I'm adding highlights and filling in the gaps in his teeth (bc Flowey has the money to go to the dentist obviously) and.... We're almost done

Colors look pretty okay but something's seems off to me. They're not warm enough so i filling Flowey with warm yellow and change layer mode to color burn and reduce the transparency to 25%

Still, i wanna add more lighting. I cover his top and part of the stem with a light yellow tint and then i change layer mode to glow dodge, 50% transparency. Adding dust particles and.... Finally, Flowey is cooked and Toriel can shoot him with fireball!

[Sure! Also, I just realized that using brackets would be easier to differentiate when I'm 'in character' so I guess i'll type like this and a little more freely for non-in-universe asks from now on.

I'm not really sure how to describe my creative process because it can differentiate between each drawing and sometimes the process is really stupid

I'll usually come up with a creature or environment first. I'm inspired by a lot of roblox games like the liminality zone, and @thatonegaycactus has also given me an amount of great creature ideas a few of which i still need to get to. But Golbo was inspired by that one image of the deflated horse if you know it

Coming up with the goobers first is even variable then, either I'll draw it out beforehand or have a good idea of how to put it into a drawing, but once I've came up with the creature as I was drawing the actual drawing (not good!)

I also like to utilize Minecraft when drawing because otherwise trying to do geometry/interior perspective is a great pain and I'm not particularly great at drawing straight lines.

Here's a timelapse saved from my program to hopefully give a better idea of how I draw bc honestly im not great at explaining my processes. Especially because they uh... change with my mood and what I'm trying to do]

[For Golbo I've drawn a concept of him beforehand, and you can see me momentarily pull up a stock image for a split second before deciding to go with minecraft lol, the start of the trend.

You can also see me do the thing in black and white first which helps with the values. But as you can see.... the thing that took the longest was the grass. Despite this being the most popular zooliminology entry, it was by far the most annoying one to draw LOL. but i've been told the extra effort is visible

Vee's Studies!

I'm like, kind of obsessed with them lmao. While I've drawn Vox quite a lot (I've been working on a Vox animation thing over the last month-ish) I hadn't done much of anything when it came to Val and Vel. I knew I'd want to do something with them all later on, but I wanted to get a good understanding of their designs, shape language, and the differences between the three of them so I can play a lot more when it comes to doing them (heh) in my own style.

So, since I was most familiar (and most obsessed with out of the three lol), I started with Vox :3

While I've been working on the animation project, it had kind of been an 'adjust-as-I-go'/'let's-bullshit-this' process, rather than doing the work of understanding why certain things looked more correct than others, so I still learned a LOT from this one study. (Plus the scene makes me wheeze and I happily took the excuse to use that moment as his study reference haha)

Obviously Val is... an asshole, to really undersell it. But this is hell, his character is interesting and his design is immaculate. I think I had the most fun with studying him tbh. Without his santa wings-coat he- *coughs* - yeah. Uh. Good design. I can actually believe that Angel fell for him at one point. Manipulative bastard - sorry tangents. ANYWAY! XD

VERY fun to draw, and a very good balance within these designs of showing off character attributes but also not taking themselves too seriously (The HATS these boys wear! *wheeze* did Velvette just give up fighting them on it? I've gotta know haha)

I missed color too much by this point to make them all match perfectly, and frankly - trying to draw canon Velvette without hue differentiation is AWFUL she has so many details and overlapping elements. If I ever have to draw Vel from 1x03 again I might cry.

Something about her 1x03 look actually makes me feel viseral irritation just by seeing it (like, even b4 I made myself draw it), but then I see her in 1x08 and I wanna draw her forever???? She's so fucking cool? So fucking cute????? The duality of man ig lmao

Anyway, the TLDR is that actually being conscious of how things are represented when drawing a character can lead to surprisingly immense insight... I feel like I not only understand so much more about how to represent their characters, but also a much firmer grasp about how the shape language in the show works.

These designs are immaculate and I had so much fun. I actually have a lot more I could say about this, but my period came today and I'm tired and this post is already massive so I'll leave things here for now! But yeah! Hopefully more Vee's in the future bc I love them!

You noticed how shy and nervous he was, so you came closer, grabbing his hand and rubbing your little thumb on his knuckles in an attempt to calm him down. 

“Do you want to come and play? I promise we're nice people,” you said in the softest voice. It only took a look into your eyes to make Jisung forget about his shyness, the warmth in them was enough to make him feel safe. 

He was 10 years old when he discovered he had a crush on you.

He was on his bed, trying to sleep, but he was wide awake, his chest heavy and his mind was empty, only you in it. He didn't understand why. Why was he thinking so much about his friend? Why did that hug feel so nice? Why did that kiss make him so flustered? Why couldn't he get you out of his mind? Or maybe he knew, maybe he had known for a while but he didn't want to admit it…

“Oh no…”

He was 15 years old when he realized he was in love with you. 

“Oh, c'mon dude, calm down.” 

“I can't because you were right.” 

“About what?” 

“I do love her.” 

He was 16 years old when he got in a fight.

“You fucking asshole!” And after that he punched Jeno in the face, making his lip bleed. “How fucking dare you!?” And another, he could hear your screaming but he was blinded by rage. “You don't love her enough!? Then you never loved her in the first place!” And another, and another and another.

He was 18 year old when he entered university.

“How did we let this happen?” 

“I don't know.” 

“We promised nothing was gonna change after me leaving.”

“Then why is everything different?” 

“Because…” He wanted to tell you, he wanted to confess but the words got stuck once again. He didn't want to do it like that, during a phone call while you were kilometres away. “We're dumb?” Your laughter made the ambience lighter. 

“Yes, we’re very, very dumb.” You wiped a few tears away and cleared your throat. “Let's start being smart again.”

“How?”

He was 19 years old when he confessed his love towards you.

“God, I fucking love you.” It was a whisper. It was innocent and said out of instinct, he didn't even realise what he just said until you left his side. 

“What!?” 

“Nothing.” He was ready to leave but your hand on his wrist stopped him. You made him face you.

“That was not nothing.” He didn't dare to look at you. “What did you just say Park Jisung?” Your tone was demanding and serious, not in an aggressive way but you wanted an answer.

want to talk a little bit about latest practice.. there's things that bothering me sometimes and.. and that's just my blog why not if i want to..

i can't deny i feel upset about.. .. nevermind , i just guess my perception/vision of character/pairing and artstyle kinda.. don't know how to put it properly.. mostly strange so not a lot of people like it?.. my main problem about it right now that because of activity i losing the desire to share things and.. this is not the main thing for now, even if my resources are very low i'm still posting, main thing i want to say now is about sometimes i'm really scared that someday i'll hear something about "tracing above ref" (i working how it showing on screenshots below - canvas for drawing and ref/collage of refs in ref window, that's all. in timelapse you may see i put ref at the beginning , sometimes i leave refs at the corner of practice and saving work with it and sometimes without it, this time i decided to save without ref at the corner. and also if this is practice i caption that this is practice.. this one took me awful 15 hours..), also i'm scared to hear something about refs in general , i know i'm not that skilled to use refs as pro using them i only hope someday i'll be skilled enough, skilled as them.. and scared to hear something about ai.. my silly hyperfixated braincell just forcing me to draw through this amount of mistakes, apologies to the character (.. yes i'm into it that much there's places i literally typing something like "i'm sorry, forgive me please, you deserve better" and etc to him even if he's "just a character"), regrets and lack of confidence in everything.. just because .. i love .. eh.. i don't know for what this is..

I have a metric shit ton of Sinbad refs so it took me a while to narrow it down to the essentials. The anime and manga versions are a little different and inconsistent shot to shot -especially his metal vessels and head ornament (feather in manga/jewels in anime). The manga version also shows that he has sleeves and in anime they look to be a part of the tie instead. I tend to use the anime for his jewelry because they are simpler to draw. I prefer using the manga version for his clothes. I draw his turban the way I do both because it's simpler and it's how it's drawn later in the manga, as well as in the anime. I've been thinking periodically drawing it more detailed/accurately but I keep chickening out. I do draw the head ornamented as feathers some times -I've been trying to keep it consistent to the in-universe day at least.

I do have concept art! I’ll show you! Also thank you so much! I never drew something like that before, it took me 3 hours. Surprisingly, the Timelapse process was very quick. I’ll post a video of it down below!

Anyway, time for concept art!

I began Project Doomsday early last year in August at work. Back then, I had no interest in Invader Zim like I was when I was little. I would cringe at just the thought of it and all the weird things I did involving Zim. But when I was at work, of all things, Zim just popping up in my head! It was like, “HEY! REMEMBER ME?! HEY HEY HEY” It was pretty annoying. So I did what any rational person would do! I began to draw him but with a twist of my own.

This was the first drawing of Z. You can also see an early version of his human design. It was this exact moment where my whole life changed forever. “Goddammit I’m back into this fandom again.” And I haven’t regretted it since.

These are early designs of Dib and Gaz. Jeeesus, they look terrible. Hell, even I thought it was terrible back then. Originally the AU’s artstyle was going to be very different but I went with a more 90s anime look because it’s my favorite.

Now, this drawing is pretty cool. That look of pure hatred. Aghhh, I love it!! It just screams, “When I see you, I’m going to kill you” I also didn’t know his blood was supposed to be pink so I drew it green.

Yet another good sketch! This is Z getting ready to do one of his experiments. I bet you can tell what’s going to happen to that dog over there.

Hey look it’s Gir, the zombie robot dog thing! This was an early sketch of him. Designing him was very hard.

And this was Z’s “official” design… I hate it. He looks like a stick bug and his head looks like a booger. I mean, I know I purposely designed Z to be super skinny, but you could at least tell he was strong. This… this just looks like a twig. Twig Zim. Invader Twim. New OC anyone?

And finally, Z’s official design. I have to say I am very proud of this one. He looks super deadly and stuff, I love it! 100/10.

Even though I at first regretted being back into this series, I’m happy I did. I felt like I embraced a part of myself and those silly memories. Believe it or not, Invader Zim saved my life back then and I’ll always be grateful. I love you, you green gremlin fucker.

Okay, enough with the mushy stuff, here’s the Timelapse of my newest Doomsday art! I was listening to Resident Evil: Dead Aim - Save Room. Even though the AU is supposed to be horror, I honestly felt like this song matched with the theme, at least with certain parts of the story.

HOLY SHIT. This piece took four hours!!! And I couldn't be more happy! I have been working on fluidity and organic lines for poses so they aren't so stiff! And this is the result! I still need to work out the kinks in how I draw feet and hands. But, I am pleased with her hands and the pose overall! So much symbolism in this piece! The frayed and cut red threads of Fate, her fearful and widened eyes..the missing mouth!!! It speaks volumes of a character who has been through the wringer in relationships. And how she has lost the ability to not only communicate but to feel loved! This piece actually kind of hit a nerve with me. I've been in this situation before.

OC-tober day 3/4: Old OC/Redesign

This one took me a few days so I'm combining the two prompts ^^ It would have been the same oc regardless anyway so it makes sense to given the tasks. I very rarely draw mechs so I hope you'll excuse the identical style to Zerrinth's post; symmetry is just so much easier when it comes to designing and basic posing.

His name is Delta, and he's an OC who I've had for a very long time.

I'll frontload this with the character lore and timelapse; if anyone cares for my breakdown of the oc itself, that'll be the huge ramble at the bottom ^^

D-17, going these days by Delta, is an autonomous multi-function guard unit. Originally from a world shrouded in eternal night, he and his charge Amyss fled its destruction in their ship, the ArchWing, to the planet of Soniterra. Spending their time amongst my other ocs, they now live amongst its denizens in secrecy, studying the world of light and sound through void-borne awe and wonder.

Powered by a zynal core, Delta is mechanically minded and quiet most of the time; tweaks to his functionality by Amyss have given him something of a sassy streak, however, and he's not afraid to giving a gentle ribbing to (or occasionally completely devastate) a poor friend with sharp remarks every once in a while.

Able to rearrange panels and parts of his body, as well as altering the shape and location of the hardlight parts of his form, Delta is capable of minor shapeshifting. He can also very precisicly manipulate tools and objects, capable of working on engineering projects at microscopic levels without any form of magnification or complex set ups with ease. Combining these skills means he is a very capable engineer, and has even rebuilt a living body into a partial cyborg to save someone's life. Though the world he now lives on seems primitive and inefficient by his standards, he does not usually feel arrogant about it; the mechanics of its tech are so different and new to him that he is ever interested in studying it.

A highly capable combatant, D-17's original purpose was to protect the outpost he and Amyss lived within from creatures of void. Energy beams firing from his hands and sharp blades forming from his body kept him and his charges safe, but the planet's end signalled an end to his guarding duties.

Ok, rambling time ;w;

I don't know exactly when I made this guy, but I remember writing about him all the way back in primary school, in blue pen on lined paper that I kept in my little organiser tray. That would be about age 6 or 7, making this guy almost twenty years old in real time ;-;

His origins start even earlier, in fact; he's an amalgamation of a couple of simple characters I made as a small child, including one of those 'running along the side of the road' guys you'd imagine on long car trips. Timelines and memories are fuzzy after 2 decades, but I'd imagine those guys are from at least a year or so before I squished all those ideas under one single name. So a solid 19 years, and a potential 20-21 easily :') wow.

Delta is actually old enough that I hadn't done much drawing by this point in my life, and so I mostly wrote things instead. Those old papers are around here somewhere, but design-wise he's never been truly nailed down; just a basic mental image and the odd description or two. The one exception is an old pixel art piece I made of him in mspaint, back on the Family Computer (remember those? ^^). I was a huge fan of pokémon fusions at the time, and I'd spend ages mixing up their sprites to see what I could do. Eventually I moved onto making things from scratch (scratch spriting, what a fun term), and that lead to the one and only time I've ever drawn this guy. It took way too long, it's very clunky, and I no longer have the original file :c Lost long ago in the move between computer to laptop I imagine. Instead, I managed to find it in a gloriously 240p youtube upload set to a Linkin Park song ^^ ah child me, you never left.

All the way from 2010, here's the best surviving version I could find. And yes, the youtube bar at the bottom is in the shot; you want to fight me over it, go find and screenshot it yourself :)

It's weirdly posed, has literally only 1 shade of grey + shading for colour, the design makes very little sense, especially for the chest and torso, and he looks a lot more evil than I intended. Despite a few efforts that went nowhere later in life though, I just never managed to redraw or redesign him in a way I was happy with. So for a long time, this grey pointy spriteart has been all I ever saw of Delta. Figured he was long, long, LONG overdue an update, and so here we are :)

Though he might look very different now and have actual anatomy knowledge informing his structure now, who'd have thunk? I tried very hard to keep intact the core design features that 13 year old me added in. It's the same fella after all! Here's a quick list of basic ones, since most of them are subtle but intentional after all:

-Glass/screen face with digital expression; I think taking the top off frees him up to look cleaner, but underneath was always a smooth screen. This way he can see above himself too ^^ -'Bunny ears'; little antenna/paddles that originate from the endless runner character, who was originally something of a rabbit -Shoulder-mounted boosters. Pretty self explanatory. -Upper arm loops; this one was actually a coincidence! I guess 2010 me and 2023 me both thought the upper arm needed something ^^ -Elbow plates; these were like. A big thing. Originally able to shapeshift into blades and other tools, I had to keep them in. It wouldn't be delta without them. They're just less... accidentally lethal now ^^ old design was POINTY -Split shins; the original shins have a pair of plates on them that form a sort of 'cuff' above the foot. I honoured this by making the feet the same way, the ankle connecting between the two sides. -Spikes! His hips were feeling a little.. empty? So I gave him some electromagnetic spikey blade things he can use as tools, as well as some hardlight claw hands.

Week 10

I finally did another digital drawing, this time using Adobe Fresco on an iPad Air 2. This piece was actually way more relaxing to draw than the last time I tried drawing digitally on Krita using my roommate's touchscreen laptop because nothing was glitching out. Everything worked perfectly this time and the Apple pencil felt very intuitive in my hand. I still struggled to get my line work to look nice and I'm not sure if the process in which I colored and shaded my drawing was the way most people do it but after finishing this piece I walked away wanting to do more digital art which is a victory in itself.

When I walked out of Manga in New York I finally understood the importance of how the presentation of an art piece can add to the overall experience of the audience member. This was a quick sketch I did in Adobe Fresco of how I was planning to display my animation. I'm thinking of getting one of those old TV carts that I would often see in elementary school where it had a big CRT TV that was hooked up to a VCR. The VCR is just for display because I'm not sure how to put my animation onto a VHS tape and even if I did it doesn't really add anything but I was planning on displaying my animation on the CRT TV. The reason the setup is like this is because this is the same setup that the two brain cells have when they are watching Dillon's embarrassing memories. I will also have two bags that will be labeled Embarasing Memories and Good Memories, after the audience member is done watching my animation they will write one happy memory and one embarrassing memory on an index card/cassette tape and throw them into their respective bag. I'm not 100% sold on this idea but it is a good start.

My professor recommended that I watch more animated short films that weren't just from previous alumni to broaden my horizons in terms of storytelling in a short animation and the way animation is used as well as its quality. I saw 10 animated short films but I'll only talk about the ones that stood out to me starting with This Actually Happens A Lot by Tom Law. I remember my professor asked me to explain why I love animation so much and I showed her the transformation sequences from Ben 10 (2005) and I just said "I mean just look at that". But she didn't see the same thing I did and said I needed to look deeper for the reason and I feel this short gave me that answer. Animation makes the unnatural feel natural without needing to explain why it is the way it is. In this short, we see that the male character's social anxiety is causing him to stick from wall to wall and be suspended in thin air. Obviously, this doesn't happen in real life but I didn't question it, I accepted immediately that this is how this world works and because of that I'm more in tune with the author's message instead of fighting the way he presented it, creating a much more enjoyable watch. If this was live-action I would be more interested in how they did the effect rather than what the point of this character being suspended in mid-air is supposed to represent in the first place.

Resilience by Yunie Choi gave me a new perspective on the horrors of war and life after death. They used animation to do a timelapse of a decaying corpse over the course of several hundred years and it is quite beautiful to see how life moves on without you. The use of colors and interesting animal designs really add to the beauty of this animation.

This guy, Manu Mercurial, does a lot of YouTube tutorials for animation but I haven't seen his animated projects in full before. I thought it would be topical for me since we are both interested in the subject of memories. He very much took a very different approach from what I was thinking of doing but I still think it was a good watch to see how people visualize revisiting their old memories

I like Afternoon Class by Osro for the same reason I like This Actually Happens A Lot, I don't question why this kid's head turns into several heavy objects but I have an immediate connection to it because I understand the feeling of trying to stay awake in class. Also, the use of sound effects is excellent in this short.

I put Forget Me Not by The Lonely Star Studio on here because it shows that even with terrible voice acting and mic quality I can still appreciate the animation of this short which has also been a huge stressor.

Bounty by Arrowmi is on here because it has the opposite problem of Forget Me Not it has amazing voice acting but the art style and animation are pretty rough. It's not bad but it's not super pretty to look at either. However, it was still able to tell an intense story of an ex-bounty hunter and suck me into the world despite its noticeable drawbacks.

Going back through my old script ideas, I had this one part where at the climax of the story the main character would wake up in a car sitting next to his dad. He's in shock because his dad is supposed to be dead and yet here he is just driving nonchalantly, the main character knows this is a memory but he decides to ask his dad a bunch of questions to see if his dad would still be proud of him if he were to meet him as an adult. I feel that this entire scene I made was inspired by this Spiderman story I found 2 years ago on Instagram in which Peter gets 5 minutes to talk to Uncle Ben after years of being Spiderman, this story really connected with me when I first found it because what I want the most in life is to just ask my dad "am I doing good". There are a lot of things that I struggle with; not being masculine enough, I'm almost 23 and still haven't had a girlfriend, and I constantly wonder if I picked the right career choice. I don't know if my dad struggled with the same things but I assume that he didn't and I often feel that if he were to meet me as an adult he would be disappointed. I know that most likely he would say that he is proud of me despite all my shortcomings because that is what parents are supposed to do but the fact that I will never get that answer kills me. I decided to read all 3 parts of this story to get a better idea as to what led up to this Uncle Ben interaction and it was pretty good, if you watched Spider-Man 2 it hits the same story beats. Lately, I've been thinking of scrapping the two-brain cell idea and instead animating the car scene I described earlier on its own.

REFLECTION:

I'm really happy that I finally found a groove into digital art and I'm hoping this will finally jumpstart some animation this week. I'm also glad that I watched all those animated short films, they all had their unique quirks and drawbacks that you don't normally get to see in professionally animated TV shows. I also want to explore the idea of being able to talk to a dead relative for a brief period of time before you never see them again.
