FHS Shipping Week day 5: "I can fix them", polyamory

I don't think he can fix them honestly. First of all, i fucking love great escape:

Second of all: I've changed Deuz's character quite a lot from canon because I see so much untapped potential in what he could have been.

Among the Nightmares, he is their most important person by far—the one who pulled them from their lowest moments, gave them a place to stay, and filled the void of love they had craved for so long. He offered them comfort, protection. What is he if not their savior? His name means "god," after all.

His entire song is dedicated to them—to this group they’ve built—and his unwavering promise that he will always be there to save them. That if they try hard enough, fight hard enough, they can claw their way out of the poverty they were doomed to live in.

I see him as someone hardened by a ruthless world, believing that "the streets are rough, the world is cruel, and you need to look intimidating so no one takes advantage of you." That mindset justifies picking fights with someone like Spring, for example. But petty bullying? That wouldn’t serve him. It wouldn’t make him stronger or more feared—it would just be cruel. And he's not cruel.

He wants to give his boys a better future, to lift them out of the life they’re trapped in. But he’s just as much a victim of his circumstances. No matter how hard he tries, he’s made them accomplices in an act—this illusion that they are at the top of the food chain by being aggressive and antagonistic. He’s the one who taught them to pickpocket, to fight, to stand their ground, to demand the right to live as human beings instead of maggots doomed to die.

He’s also the one who, for the sake of survival, turned them into objectively bad people.

But he wants more for them. Better for them. He believes he can fix it. Fix them.

If he works hard enough, if he earns enough, if he loves them enough... then surely, their lives can be good. Right?

I know it's not canon but my new crack hc for college au is that they did this like, as a scare tactic. Like we'll come on really intimidating and weird and make him too scared to ever mess with Killer in case we put a curse on him or something.

But then they brought up this blood oath and Cross was just like "okay" with no hesitation and while they were like "wait what" he was already pricking his finger like "where do I sign" and then they had to go make a fake document, the whole time like "oh he's *dead* serious, maybe it's fine. we'll still be like hey don't hurt Killer but, damn" lol

Some more of Our Au, cause I'm having fun building up the world and characters.

Horror and the rest of the Horrortale residents that live in Our Au is given food everyday. This makes them the most loyal residents towards Nightmare, who saved them from their starvation. If they try and grab more food than they are allowed during meal hours, they get a "death stare" from Nightmare. The kids of Our Au have became desensitized to Horrortale residents and Horror's eye. Sometimes the newer members get scared, causing them to get a stern talking to from Nightmare and equality.

Killer isn't sure if he loves Our Au as it can be predictable, but he does like it. Thanks to Nightmare's spell book the determination trait was drained from Killer (not 100% sure about this yet ¯\_(._.)_/¯). Although it did not take away the spirits (delusions? he wasn't completely sure) of Chara and Frisk. He sticks around Horror the most as he doesn't want to lose him again.

Dust is constantly observed by Nightmare as he knows Dust is the least approving on his idea. Dust at one point wore his scarf around Our Au but Nightmare told him to put it away because an adult monster complained about the Scarf making Dust special. Nightmare puts equality first. Without Dust's magic, he looks like any other sans in the Au.

Nightmare keeps an eye on Cross as he is new to Our Au. He's also suspicious that he is similar to Dust and not completely playing the part. Sometimes, Nightmare hears Cross talking to himself, figured it was a similar situation to Dust and Killer.

Residents are often forced to smile because Nightmare wants to make beings happy. If they aren't happy, Nightmare gets a bit explosive on them and very upset. He has a room similar to Starlight Glimmer had in Mlp for people who need a little push to conform.

All designs aren't final. Not very good at character design. Although everyone will be wearing basically the same thing, at the very least an outfit with the same color palette.

Day 2: confession

YAYYY TODDAI YAYYYYYY YAYYYY!

Alright, time to talk about what possessed me to ship them and how I think this confession would play out.

For me, both Mai and Toddy are lonely in their own ways.

Toddy carries the weight of her relationship with Bon—she loved him deeply and genuinely, but it was never reciprocated romantically. Beyond that, she’s his friend, yet she feels out of place among Bon’s other friends, as if he’s almost embarrassed to admit he enjoys her company. She has no deep connections with anyone her age; Bon prefers his “better” friends and even some guy he just met over her. She’s left standing on the outside, alone.

And it’s not like she doesn’t know why. Toddy is blunt to the point of rudeness, struggles with social cues, and lacks tact in conversations. She doesn’t sugarcoat things or bother with fake niceties—either because she doesn’t realize how harsh she sounds or because she refuses to play along with social conventions she sees as meaningless. Some social rules make sense, don't be too loud, don't look sloppy, dont chew with your mouth open. But fakeness? That serves no purpose. In a world that often pushes people like her aside, she holds her ground. She’s independent, skilled, and knowledgeable. Why pretend to like something she doesn’t? Why follow unwritten social rules that seem arbitrary?

Mai, on the other hand, mostly sticks to her family. People don’t really like her, and that’s fine—she doesn’t resent it. She can’t resent much of anything. Her mind is wired for relentless positivity, to the point where she struggles to understand sadness, let alone why some people need to feel it. She’s loud, strange, and exhausting to be around, so most people don’t stick around. They have their real friends, and Mai is just… there.

Like her sibling, Mai believes love is unattainable for her. Not because she’s unworthy, but because she’s missing some fundamental pieces of what makes a person "normal." And that’s okay. She’s just too weird to be loved in that way—it’s not self-deprecation; it’s just a fact. No reason to be sad about it.

Their similarities draw them together. They’re both "too much," both incapable of filtering their words, both struggling with empathy in conventional ways. But instead of clashing, they understand each other. Mai blurts out whatever comes to mind, not to be cruel, but because that’s just how she is. Her response to emotional distress is suffocating positivity because that’s all she knows. Toddy doesn’t bother with fake pleasantries or polite omissions—why would she? To her, honesty is the only thing that matters. The very things that alienate them from others become a shared language between them.

They’d start as friends—close friends—confusing everyone around them. After all, Toddy is someone who is all caught up on looking "good" and "proper", while Mai is the weirdest kid in school. By all logic, their relationship should be antagonistic

But then there’s Mai, showing up at odd hours, pestering Toddy late at night just because she can. Toddy, exasperated, telling her to dress warmer because it’s freezing. Mai ignoring her, dragging her along to one of her favorite spots—a quiet place where the stars shine brighter than anywhere else.

And there, under the vast sky, she confesses. No theatrics, no layers of mystery, no grand gesture. Just simple words, because that’s how Toddy likes things.

And Toddy says yes. Loudly. Immediately. Throwing herself into a hug, because that’s how Mai likes things.
