there are so many self opposing dichotomies in the bible it begins to become difficult to wrap my head around
at what point do my acts differ from acts of god if he must give me the strength to do anything? if he already knows everything ill do does it not become his act?

something about cesare being neck-collared by his father by trapping him in the cardinal's robes against his will instilling a deep sense of powerlessness that drove cesare to overcompensate by seeking devotion and exerting domination as he projected the controlling behavior his father imposed on him onto two people who are so different from each other by grabbing them by the neck- the submissive masterless assassin micheletto, and his disobedient incompetent soldier younger brother juan. micheletto was an ideal vessel for cesare to fulfill his need to dominate in being a skilled but obedient killer and all while juan's rebelliousness made it difficult for cesare to control him...the contrast between the malleable (only to cesare) micheletto and the defiant juan is almost highlighting cesare's drive to assert the control that was denied to him by his father...

The parallel between Sokka and Tenzin as their fathers' sons.
Sokka, left at 13 as his father and all the other men head off to war. Hakoda tells him "being a man is knowing where he's needed the most" and he needs to protect his sister, his home.
Tenzin is the second airbender. He is also half water tribe, he's a man. When Aang dies, he will be the last airbender. He understands what he needs to do.
Untold amount of pressure and responsibility have been thrust upon them by their fathers. Though, I believe it is not all intentional, but the unfortunate circumstance of being the fathers of sons who take responsibility incredibly seriously.
In Sokka's case, "protect your sister" is a vague instruction. It was meant to give him purpose, to help him feel okay about being left behind, He is too young for war, his father does not want to bring his child to slaughter. But Sokka will die with purpose. He will train the children of his tribe so they will be protected, he will face a fire nation ship until his last breath. He cannot go to war, but Hakoda did not see that war was all around them. In trying to give Sokka purpose, Hakoda put their world on his shoulders.
We do not get to see Aang be a father (in the TV shows), but we know he had hopes for the future. All his children were air nomads, and the air acolytes brought his culture back, but Tenzin could bend. This part of their culture is one ONLY they share. I do not think Aang would hide this, he is joyous that he gets to share his culture. When he feels respected, he always is, he taught the air acolytes after all. Off handedly, he could say, "I'm hopeful for a future where there are lots more air benders," and that, which feels mostly innocuous to him, is the nail in the coffin of Tenzin's fate. He is Avatar Aang's son, and the future of the air benders. It would not matter that Aang meant a future in generations. Tenzin sees the responsibility and it's his. He is his father's only air bending child, he knows what he needs to do.
Being a parent is not understanding the way the things you say harm your children. Even those things that feel innocuous in the moment can be life altering. Especially the more the child respects the parent. Purpose and Hope for those with a broader perspective, can be death sentences to a life that could have been when expressed to those who idolize the former.

Bugtober 2024- Day 8: Lore
[…many pages of the manuscript were damaged beyond recognition, either from age or being exposed to the elements within the Giant’s Lair. Likely a mix of the two. Despite my best efforts only a few pages were able to be preserved. The ones that remain do paint an interesting picture though! Even with a lack of full context.
One page in particular stands out to me.
It tells of the transfer of power between a figure called Hierophant Vergilius and an Acolyte Victor, as well as documenting the survival of only a single child that was born to Victor.
Illustrations even accompany the text!
Thankfully these provide more insight, showing that these figures were likely to be moths. There’s also a notable use of blues and crystalline shapes. Perhaps they also make use of Ancient Crystals?
Whether or not the child was named or even made it to pupation doesn’t appear within the pages I could preserve. I do have my suspicions though, as later text that can actually be read mentions Victor, referring to him with the Hierophant title, being aided by an Acolyte Apollyon. However until I can find more, this is purely speculative.]

I was thinking that Jing Yuan actually does see Yanqing as something akin to a son, but most of the time treats him as his disciple and a member of the cloud-knights; he admires his tenacity and wants to protect part of his innocence, he did seem to raise him and is so similar to his younger self, but it also comes with an arrogance unbeffiting of a soldier that needs to be straightened out, something that must happen to everyone. Plus, there's something he needs Yanqing to do for him when the time comes, even if he still can't let the kid walk completely alone.
On the other hand, Yanqing doesn't necessarily see him as a father figure (most of the time), more like a mentor and benefactor who inspires respect and some affection, his feelings on the matter could be less complex, but there's always doubt and rumors around Jing Yuan (still glad the common folk can talk so freely about him). For what plot would the general need some kid prodigy who came from thin air?

I need you all to understand anytime it's said that the (non canon) ye olde new vegas wedding that Kremy and Gideon had was a "shotgun wedding" I am laughing my ass off. I don't think that means what you think it means
Actually you know what I firmly believe Gricko has called it that before and nobody has corrected him

it doesn't really make sense in the logic (lol) of the show but part of me loves the idea that edd is being raised by his grandparents.... kids who are raised by grandparents tend to be overly mature and a little uhhhhh off-beat. i feel like it could explain a lot.

insert really smart comment here that makes you go "wow that was really smart i like this guy"
his note i wrote under the cut
Dear Betty,
Firstly I want to thank you, for everything. All your sacrifices, your wishes, your love and care. I wont let them go unnoticed any longer. I was a fool, blinded by my own blissful ignorance. You were my princess but i failed as your hero. This experience has opened up my eyes, made me realize things I should have seen sooner. Its silly really, I cared so much for you that I ended up hurting you. I am forever sorry for the pain i’ve caused. I wont let you down again, I don’t think you’ll let me.
I will live every day to the fullest, for you but especially for myself. You’ve shown me I deserve to live, and I’m going to. I have daughters, both capable and intelligent. I have a family, I can no longer waste my life away, I am not alone. Thank you, for helping me realize that. Love, Simon

The thing I realized the most about Omniverse that had effect on me past the art style that was so abundantly clear was everything with Malware and Feedback.
How despite the rough edges OV has, it handle the subject of trauma beautifully, what it means to lose apart of yourself, that still holds up to this day whilst also having a compelling and threatening villain to accompany that, but Ben is able to overcome that by forgiving himself and that’s how he gets Feedback again, how is able to heal.
And I just go “yeah no fucking wonder I’m a angsty fiend obsessed with hurt/comfort and characters facing their trauma”

absolutely hate that the oni trilogy reframed lloyd as his father’s enemy bc he was unwanted or unloved bc the whole point was that lloyd was wanted so so badly that his father was willing to give into the prophecy that had doomed him in the hopes that he could save them both from it, and in the process ensured that they would be on opposite sides
