i know Final Destination is usually supposed to be interpreted as happening vaguely somewhere in North America, but my Canadian heart loves it when they lean more towards Canada. For example, instead of Jif peanut butter or whatever the common brand is in America, I can recognize that green Kraft Peanut Butter jar lid from anywhere, which is everywhere in Canada (my mom actually just bought a jumbo jar yum)

My Bloodline Will Die With Me
Chapter 2: But Try Measure Loss
Here's the second chapter of my Erik Survives au! This one's a little more lighthearted, hope yall enjoy :)
Tumblr media
“… a miracle, honestly… Should be thankful…”
“Thankful…? MY SON IS GONE!”
Erik grunted and turned his head deeper into his pillow, but he accidentally put more pressure on his sensitive ear and he jerked his head up.
“Erik? Oh my God, can you hear me?” A familiar voice asked Erik.
“Ma’am, give him some space, now…”
Realizing he wasn’t going to go back to sleep, Erik managed to flutter his eyes open. He saw the face of his mother, her face twisted with worry and anguish, tears streaming down her face.
Oh, man. Last time he saw her, he was so angry that she’d never told him about his true father. He didn’t want to talk to her or see her for the rest of the week. Now… Now he felt his own eyes well up. At least he still had her. At least she was safe from Death.
Behind her, Erik could see Nurse Sun and his cousins standing back. Stefani and Charlie… They were still alive. Erik sighed in relief.
Erik’s mother hesitantly reached out a hand towards Erik’s cheek, a new flood of tears pouring down her face. “Oh, my boy… My baby boy…” she sobbed out.
Even though Erik knew he should be thankful that he and his mother were still alive, he felt like the wheelchair had ripped through his chest and left a gaping hole. It was just him and Mom now. No more Dad. No more Julia. No more Bobby.
Erik felt the tears escape from the edges of his eyes. He tried to sniffle, but could only emptily suck in through his nose, since it was still tightly bandaged.
He quickly wiped his eyes and put a hand over his mother’s. He tried to smile at her reassuringly, and he gulped away his sobs.
“Hey, Mom,” he started. Thankfully his voice didn’t crack too much. “I’m alright.”
Mom let out a shaky laugh before her face began to contort into sadness again. She stepped away from Erik’s bed and turned away, followed by a Nurse Sun offering her a tissue box.
Stefani and Charlie exchanged glances before stepping up to either side of Erik’s bed. Their expressions were filled more with guilt, which Erik wanted to smack off their faces. It wasn’t their dang faults that his whole family was gone and he had a few flesh wounds.
“Stop it, you two,” he muttered.
“What?” Charlie blinked, surprised at Erik’s words.
“This isn’t on you, alright? Stop thinking that things would’ve been different if you were there.”
“But it could’ve!” Stefani exclaimed. “I could have seen the factors, we could have been more careful. Bobby could still be alive if…” She trailed off, biting her lip.
Man, Erik had to admit that they all really should’ve stuck with Stefani from the start. She actually might have been able to stop Erik and Bobby from making such a moronic decision like inciting an allergic reaction in an MRI room, but Erik wasn’t gonna admit that in front of her.
“Look… What’s done is done, okay? You weren’t there, so me and Bobby made a mistake. Mostly me, since it was my idea to sneak off and try to get Bobby killed with his nut allergies. But… Now Bobby’s gone and I have to take care of Paco and Death is gonna go after…” Erik suddenly realized something and looked around the room. “Wait, where’s Aunt Darlene?”
“She’s outside, we checked on her five minutes ago. She’s fine,” Charlie said, gesturing towards the door.
“Well, go check on her again, what if a light explodes over her head in the five minutes you left her alone?”
Charlie looked to Stefani, who seemed to take a second to do some mental calculations.
“Okay, yeah, it might be a possibility. I’ll go look.”
After the door closed, Erik sunk his head back in the pillow and pinched his eyes closed briefly. It was tiring to look after a family that was all marked for a violent and brutal death. Weather vane through the skull, face shredded by lawnmower, crushed in garbage disposal, vending machine coil in the head. Why couldn’t someone do something boring like catch tuberculosis?
Realizing his youngest cousin was still at his bedside, Erik opened one eye to see him staring at his nose. Erik remembered how Charlie was scared of his piercings when he first got them, but he won him over when he once put a ramen noodle through his nose. It disgusted Julia and Stefani and freaked out Bobby, but Charlie was the only one who found it funny.
“You wanna know how exactly it happened,” Erik remarked. It wasn’t a guess, Erik knew he would be curious if he was in Charlie’s position, too.
“Oh, n–no, not really. I mean, yes, I’d like to know, but you don’t have to tell me right now–”
“Charlie, it’s fine. I’ll tell you. Y’all deserve to know.”
Charlie shifted his weight, looking around hesitantly before pulling up a chair and looking intently at Erik, waiting for him to start.
As Erik recounted what he remembered, Charlie hardly blinked during the entirety of his story. Erik could see his expression filled with anxiety, shock, and grief. He only interrupted when Erik got to the part about his piercings ripping out.
“God, that must’ve hurt a lot,” he said with a wince, his eyes darting to Erik’s nose again.
“Heh, it sure did. Especially the ones in my, uh…” Erik looked down at his body, whose true damage was concealed by a loose purple sweater, courtesy of the hospital’s lost and found bin (since his other shirt had two holes and blood on it). “Uhh, my chest.”
“You really shouldn’t have had piercings there, you know.”
“Yeah, okay, in hindsight maybe not the best idea… But my body, my choice, yeah?”
“… Sure, man.”
Nonetheless, throughout Erik’s ramblings, he noticed an underlying determination in Charlie’s eyes, like he was analyzing all the aspects of what happened and taking it as a lesson. Good. Let the kid use Erik’s mistakes and help the rest of his family avoid this fate. They’ll get it right, even if it kills them.
When Erik got to the part with the wheelchair, his words drifted off. “I kinda got knocked out after that. The nurse told me you guys ran in with her after hearing her screaming. How… How did it look?”
Charlie gulped. Erik hoped he wasn’t about to puke on his bedsheets. “It wasn’t pretty. You were on the ground with a lot of blood coming out of your head. I was scared that you were actually dead. But Bobby… God, I can still see that spring drilled into his head. You should be grateful you didn’t see what it did to him.”
Erik winced and grunted. “Sorry you had to see that.” God, Erik couldn’t look at Charlie’s eyes. He traumatized his little cousin. He was probably never going to see vending machines the same way. Or wheelchairs and MRI machines, for that matter.
“He was taken down to the coroner’s while you were taken to the ICU,” Charlie continued. “Mr. Bludworth didn’t have to wait long to see him again, I guess.”
Ah, yes. That charismatic old coroner. He was now three people away from being next on Death’s list. When they were talking to Mr. Bludworth, Erik had felt a grim comfort with the man, and he found the thought of leaving his little brother in his care slightly reassuring.
Erik finally noticed Stefani and Aunt Darlene peeking in through the doorway. Did they hear his whole recount?
They better have, Erik thought. He didn’t want the details to be repeated again. He lifted up an arm and beckoned the two to come inside, to which they obliged.
“Hello, Erik… Are you feeling okay?” Aunt Darlene asked.
Of course not, look at me, Erik said in his head. However, he knew that Aunt Darlene probably had nothing better to say given the circumstances, so he dialed back the snark in his verbal response.
“I’ve been better, Aunt Darlene. Thanks for asking.”
“I didn’t want to come in earlier because, well…” She glanced at the machinery around the hospital bed anxiously. “I don’t want an accident to happen around you. You’ve been through enough.”
Right. Death was gonna go after Aunt Darlene now.
“How long has it been since mine and Bobby’s accident?”
“It’s been around a day and a half, I’d say,” Stefani said.
“And nothing’s happened yet?”
“No, not really.”
“Which, personally, doesn’t reassure me at all,” Charlie piped up.
“Well, Death has to make sure the right circumstances will allow a victim to be claimed,” Stefani said, shifting her weight. “You know, there has to be a setup that looks like a complete accident or coincidence. Mom probably hasn’t gone anywhere near a deadly mechanism because she’s mostly just been sitting out in the hall this whole time.”
“It could only be a matter of time now, though,” Aunt Darlene said gravely. Erik peered closer at his aunt and noticed that she was blinking blearily and had dark circles forming underneath her eyes.
“Aunt Darlene, have you been eating or sleeping?” Erik asked.
She paused and shook her head.
“What, are you taking your chances of slowly starving to death rather than having a sudden, painful accident?”
Stefani shot Erik a look. “What?” He said, shrugging slightly. “She’s not taking care of herself.”
“I don’t need to make Stefani and Charlie look after me,” Darlene said defensively. “I’m responsible for being aware of my surroundings, I shouldn’t do anything risky like… Eat something I could choke on, or sleep in a bustling hospital.”
“Then we’ll get you home, Mom,” Stefani said.
“Well, entering the road should be out of the question–”
“–So what are we gonna do, Mom?” Charlie asked exasperatedly. “Should we get Aunt Brenda to walk you home? Are we all just gonna stay here with Erik until he recovers or you get your accident around him?”
“I don’t know!” Darlene suddenly exclaimed, her voice cracking slightly. “I don’t know, my whole life I’ve tried to plan for the moment that Death would come after Mom and Howard and me, but now that it’s actually happening, nothing has gone right! I hate that Stefani seems to be the only one here who can figure out what might happen, everyone’s lives shouldn’t be her burden! That’s too much for one person to handle.” Darlene lowered her voice. “I never wanted my daughter to deal with this…”
Everyone was silent. Erik glanced at Stefani, who looked both surprised and heartened at her mother’s words. In hindsight, Erik realized exactly how much Stefani must be going through. She’s the one plagued by visions of death, she’s the one who actually witnessed the bloody ends of not only Howard, but also Iris, Julia, and Bobby. She’s the one who suddenly had her mother reenter her life after abandoning her, only for her life to also be thrust into her hands.
Erik shifted his weight so he could sit up more in his bed, grunting slightly.
“Here’s what could happen,” he began. “We’ll grab an AED and get Aunt Darlene to the safest place around here. I don’t know if you know of any safety bunkers or if Grandma Iris had anything in mind, but figure something out.” He turned to Stefani. “Stefani, I hope you got some good rest, because you need to be alert to any more weird visions that could clue us in to what could happen to Aunt Darlene. If worse comes to worse, we’ll let her flatline and bring her back with the defibrillator. Unless,” he raised an eyebrow at his aunt. “You’re willing to kill someone…?”
Aunt Darlene had an expression on her face that said something like ‘Did Howard raise you to be a psychopath while I was gone?’ so Erik raised his hands in surrender. “Was just wondering.”
“Erik, you should go back home and rest,” Charlie said. “Aunt Brenda can take you –”
“–Nu uh. I have to see this through. You’re not getting rid of me that easily.”
“Erik, you’ve been through enough,” Stefani interjected. “You have a concussion and you need rest–”
“Hey, I’m not on Death’s list, remember?” Erik interrupted his cousin. “I know we’re all worried about the well-being of the cool older cousin, but I’m safe. Sure, I almost got my head taken off, but I’m not dead.”
Stefani and Charlie exchanged glances, as if still unsure about letting Erik tag along. “Come on, I survived my tattoo parlour fire and a flying wheelchair. I’ll be fine. One week at most and I’ll be good as new, the doc said.”
“I thought he said three weeks–”
“Zip it, Charlie.”
“Okay,” Stefani finally said. “I think we should head to Iris’ cabin. She managed to survive there for decades, so Mom might have a good chance there.”
“Fair enough,” Erik relaxed into his bed again. “We’ll go after the doctors officially discharge me.”
A loud rumbling sound suddenly filled the room, making everyone but Erik flinch.
“Heh, look at all you wussies. I’m just hungry. So hungry I could eat…” Erik made a serious face and stared at Darlene.
“Erik, if you didn’t have a concussion, I’d slap you,” Stefani said.
Erik smirked. Two weeks? He’ll fight Death itself in two days.

If I had a nickel for every time there was a summer 2025 horror movie that featured a silly likable guy named Erik who made a suggestion to kill a child, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but weird that it happened twice

My Bloodline Will Die With Me
Finally, my first fanfiction! This is a somewhat angsty, plot-focused rendition of Final Destination: Bloodlines but Erik survives and tries to keep his cousins and Aunt Darlene safe.
Tumblr media
(bonus art i made for this fanfic bc i could :D)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Waking Up Is Harder Than It Seems
The first thing Erik noticed when he woke up was the smell.
The chemical smell was almost overwhelming. It filled his sinuses and clouded his head, making him dizzy and nearly knocking him back into unconsciousness.
Despite the smell, he realized he was breathing through his parted mouth, not his nose. Ow, his nose. He didn’t dare try to breathe through his nose, that was gonna suck for sure. Well, not that he could even if he tried. The next thing Erik noticed was a scratchy gauze fastened over his nose, completely covering his nostrils.
Erik knew he was laying in a bed, and he knew that he had to still be in the hospital. But where was everyone else? Where was Bobby? As much as he wanted to fall back asleep, Erik needed answers.
Erik slowly opened one eye and was immediately flooded with the sterile brightness of a hospital room. He squinted through the overwhelming whites and tried to take in his surroundings better. As he shifted himself to lean against his pillows instead of laying flat on the bed, he sensed some movement approaching him.
A woman’s face entered his vision, eyes soft yet professional. She was dressed in a nurse’s uniform.
“Erik? Erik Campbell? Are you conscious? Blink if you can hear me.”
Erik didn’t really want to blink. He wanted to ask her a hundred questions, but his voice wouldn’t work yet, so he blinked. He found his eyes began to adjust better to the hospital room, so maybe blinking was for the best.
“Excellent. You’re doing great. You’ve been in a… strange accident, to say the least.”
Yeah, no kidding, Erik thought.
“I know you must have some questions–and frankly, so do I–but you shouldn’t push yourself right now and you should get some more rest. I’m Nurse Sun, and here’s a call bell you can use in case you need anything–”
Oh, no, this woman isn’t leaving me yet. There was one thing Erik needed to know right now. He opened his mouth and coughed, clearing his dry throat as much as he could.
“Mr. Campbell, please don’t try to–”
“—Bobby?” was all Erik managed to get out before he fell into a coughing fit. Well, that was embarrassing.
Nurse Sun looked at him with concern and produced a glass of water with a straw from his bedside table, guiding it to Erik’s mouth. He grabbed the glass and flicked the straw aside, sipping some water directly from the glass in an effort to relieve his throat.
“Bobby…?” Nurse Sun finally asked, seeking some clarification from Erik’s question.
Yeah, this was annoying. How on earth was he gonna ask this woman he’d never met before that he needed to know if his little brother didn’t get himself killed from an allergic reaction?
Erik’s memory began to recall more of what happened before landing in this bed.
He remembered seeing how scared Bobby was at the idea of having Death relentlessly chase him. He remembered how there was no way he was gonna let his little brother end up like Dad or Julia. He remembered getting him those (not unsalted) peanut butter cups from the vending machine. He remembered seeing him eat them and begin to struggle breathing. He wanted to stab him with his EpiPen then and there because he could see how much it hurt. Even though Bobby was bigger than Erik, he looked so small and scared, which only made killing him more painful for Erik, but he had to make sure Bobby died before bringing him back, so that he could be safe from Death for good.
But then… The MRI machine turned on. And Erik’s piercings all flew out. Each one ripped out his flesh and sent burning pain through his skin. Erik tried to hold them in, but he only had two hands–not enough for all his piercings. Maybe he should have taken them out after the incident at the tattoo parlour…
Erik remembered dropping the EpiPen while trying to hold his piercings in, and Bobby leapt for it. Erik, despite his pain, knelt down and tried to grab the EpiPen away from him. Erik didn’t know why–it was instinct, it was part of his plan to keep Bobby away from his lifeline.
He should’ve let Bobby have the EpiPen, since things were already going wrong.
The last thing he remembered was a wheelchair flying towards them.
“Erik?”
Erik turned his eyes back on the nurse, who now had a grave look.
“Bobby… He was the boy who was with you?”
Erik felt a sharp sense of unease and dread. He tried his voice again, which came through easier now, thanks to the water. “Yeah. My brother.”
“Your brother? Oh, I’m so sorry. He… he didn’t make it.”
No. “No. No.” Erik’s face twitched and he shook his head in disbelief. Bobby can’t be gone. They had a plan. He was going to flatline, which was risky, sure, but they were in a hospital. It was the best place to save his life, so what went wrong–?
“I heard noises coming from the room you two were in and metal items were flying for the door. I walked in and saw you bleeding from your head on the ground and Bobby was beside you, sticking an EpiPen in his thigh. There was a wheelchair that was stuck in the MRI machine–I have no idea what you two were doing in there but that machine should not have been on.”
So Erik must have gotten knocked out by that wheelchair when he knelt down to Bobby. Good thing he wasn’t standing, or else he might’ve gotten caught by that wheelchair and–well, ouch. “So then what happened?”
The nurse cleared her throat hesitantly. “Bobby noticed me in the doorway. He stood up, asking me to help you. Then… out of nowhere a coil from the vending machine behind me flew out towards him. Went right through his…” Nurse Sun’s eyes darkened and she pointed at her head.
Erik stared at the nurse after her recount of what happened. He let out a breathy scoff. So Bobby was dead. Gone. He was never gonna see his little brother grow up.
Death really was relentless.
Nurse Sun now avoided Erik’s eyes. “To be honest, I wasn’t sure what to make of the situation at first. Admittedly, I freaked out and three other people rushed into the room, calling out to you two. I suppose they were friends, or family?”
“I came here with my cousins and aunt…” Erik traced his heart brand, which still stung from the fire at his tattoo parlour from yesterday. He was still trying to comprehend what Nurse Sun just told him. To think that what happened with Dad, Julia, and the tattoo parlour was insane enough, but now Bobby?
Nurse Sun let out a long sigh. “Is this a lot? I think it’s a lot. To be honest, I really shouldn’t have told you all of this yet, but surprisingly you are taking this in better than… most, I would guess.”
Erik mustered up an expression that said something along the lines of: Lady, you wouldn’t believe the week I had.
Nurse Sun shockingly might have gotten the gist of Erik’s internal dialogue, because she raised one eyebrow and leaned back. “Interesting life you must have,” she muttered.
The door opened and a tall man with long white hair and a long white coat walked in with a clipboard. Nurse Sun immediately straightened up and turned to him. Clearly, this man was his doctor.
“Hello, Mr. Erik Campbell,” the doctor said, his tired eyes flicking between his clipboard and Erik. This guy clearly needed some coffee. “I’m Dr. Frances, I see you’ve already met Nurse Sun. Are you able to talk?”
Erik opened his mouth and simply said “Yeah. Ow.”
“I can imagine. To give you a brief rundown of your condition, you had a concussion from the wheelchair striking your head. It did give you a deep gash in your temple region, but we patched that up just fine. Nonetheless, you will need some rest from any hardcore physical activity so you don’t make your concussion worse.”
Erik raised a hand to his bandaged temple tentatively. Wow, Erik thought. Despite that wonderful summary, it still felt worse than it sounded. Bobby got a concussion once from a brutal football game, but Erik was never aware of how much it sucked.
“As for your… Smaller injuries…” Dr. Frances glanced at Erik’s nose and ears. Ah yes, his spontaneous piercing-removal procedure. Fun.
“We disinfected those wounds and patched them up as best we could. We can provide you with some painkillers if you would like them. All in all, we have managed to stabilize most of your injuries, so as long as you don’t have any more accidents, you can make a full recovery in two to three weeks.”
Two to three weeks? Yeah feel free to wrap me in bubble wrap while you’re at it, Doc, Erik bitterly thought to himself.
His recap done, Dr. Frances tucked the clipboard under his arm and nodded to Erik. “You can expect to be discharged tomorrow. Good day, young man,” he said before shuffling out of the room. Well, all things considered, Dr. Frances seemed like a pretty good doctor. Erik appreciated his straightforwardness.
Nurse Sun got up from her seat and gave Erik a quick smile. “I know you’ve been through a lot, but you should get some sleep. We’ll contact your family to let them know how you’re doing.”
His family. “Wait,” he called out to Nurse Sun. “How long have I been here?”
She glanced at the clock, which read 3:56. “It’s almost 4 AM right now. I don’t know when you arrived, but we picked you up around eight hours ago.”
He’d been out for at least eight hours? Was Death still after the rest of his family? Were they still alive? What did they do about Bobby?
Despite Erik not getting all the answers to his questions, the information he got was still enough to fill Erik with exhaustion. He really needed some sleep. Since the incident at the tattoo parlour and Julia's accident, he hadn’t gotten much rest. The nurse walked away, wishing him a good sleep and dimming the lights in his room. Erik sunk into his pillow and closed his eyes.
The last thing Erik thought of before drifting off was Bobby’s outstretched hand towards him.

lowkey kinda funny how ppl compared Richard Harmon's John Murphy with McCabe Slye's Tommy Slater, and now with Richard's Erik Campbell from Final Destination Bloodlines getting popular, McCabe's character in the trailer for his next movie Star People looks like he'll also be similar to Erik.
The Murphy/Tommy comparisons:

The Erik/Taylor comparisons:
