You had decided to stay with Bucky, if only to keep him from damaging himself.

Even if it meant you were being broken down in the process.

He kept true to his promises, insisting that he break up with her. It should've made you feel better, but it didn't.

Seeing how much pain she was in only made you feel worse.

It didn't help that you'd lost sight of who you were and now your whole world seemed to revolve around him.

Neither of you were fit to love one another. It was as if you were pieces of broken glass and your shattered edges didn't match up.

You hated the whole fucking situation.

And given the circumstances, how could you really be happy?

You'd thought that you'd made it obvious that you didn't want your friends to know about the relationship just yet.

His break up was fairly recent still and you didn't want them to think badly of you.

Bucky had even agreed, but somewhere along the line he'd told Sam and Sam told everyone else. Natasha hadn't spoken to you in weeks.

A part of you wanted to be upset with Bucky, but the other part just blamed it on miscommunication.

You didn't need an explanation.

It was late and Bucky had just had a long day of assignments. His arm was draped over your side and his cold nose was pressed against your neck.

He was already half asleep, but you were staring into the darkness of your bedroom, wide-awake.

"Can I ask you a question?" You whispered.

He hummed sleepily.

The words rolled over in your mind for a moment. You didn't want to upset him, but you thought you'd made your stance clear. What he did today proved otherwise.

You were hanging out with the team. Steve had just gotten back from his solo mission and wanted to tell everyone about it.

Bucky walked in and saw you sitting on the couch. Natasha was standing against the wall watching him.

Bucky leaned down and kissed you in front of everyone. It was so sudden and you didn't know how to react.

At first, the team was shocked. They'd heard the dating rumors, but they didn't expect this level of public affection from the former Winter Soldier.

After a few seconds though, Clint started slow clapping. "Real cute, now get a room." Clint Barton, always the sarcastic jackass.

You turned your head away from Bucky and focused on what Steve was saying. However, Natasha's disapproving expression didn't go unnoticed by you.

"Why did you do that today?" You asked quietly.

Bucky still had his eyes closed. "Do what?" He asked in a sleepy voice.

"Kiss me in front of everyone like that."

"Because I love you," he kissed your shoulder.

"I know, but I thought we agreed to keep the relationship thing a little private," you said with a sigh.

Now Bucky was awake.

"Why does it matter? Everyone already knows," he said in defense.

You sat up, annoyed by his careless attitude, "It matters because we agreed! Did you see Natasha's face?"

Bucky sat up too and pulled you onto his lap. He rubbed your back as you wrapped your arms around his neck.

"I didn't want to hurt her, Bucky," you said guilty.

He kissed your temple, "I know, doll."

You got up and went into the bathroom, needing time away from Bucky. Every second you spent in his arms made you feel worse and worse.

Of course, he got up and started knocking on the door. "Can I come in?"

When he didn't get a response, he opened the door anyway.

You were sitting on the edge of the tub with your head in your hands. You were regretting everything.

He stood in front of you not knowing what to do, "C'mon babe, can we please go back to bed. We can figure this out tomorrow."

You shook your head and ignored his pleas, "It's all too much."

"What's too much? I'm here. Tell me. I'll fix it," he crouched down to your level and held your hands in his.

"No, Bucky. You can't fix it. I just...I need to be alone tonight," you told him with tears in your eyes. "Please."

His jaw twitched, but after a long moment he got up without a word and went into the bedroom. You came out a few minutes later to see him, fully dressed, and grabbing his keys.

He walked out before you could say another word, making sure to slam the door as he left. He hadn't even put up a fight.

The only sound left in your apartment was the soft shuttering breath of your sobs.

Okay, I just finished watching Transformers One, and this is my take on it. so buckle in, cause this is gonna get deep

Warning for spoilers. Seriously, if you have not watched. Do not read

First things first. The movie is GREAT! I'm loving the animation style and lore, take that bayverse! This is definitely gonna give new fans a fantastic idea of transformers at its finest. I'm so excited for the new generation of transformers fans that are gonna be raised on this

Me and @fusciaguardian had actually been talking about how a new transformers movie should turnout, before the trailers had even come out. It's the funniest thing, cause we had both agreed that it should go back before the war, and take lots of notes from Transformers Prime. And look at this! A dude from the prime team literally designed the thing, and it was staged before the war!!

Gotta say, I rlly love the lore and history for cybertron. it makes sense, and it goes in a understandable line. It includes all the important aspects of the Transformers universe, like the quintissons, the evil system that lead to Megatron's motivation, and sentinel prime being a jerk XD

But like seriously, stop making main female characters pink. Idk, MAKE THEM RED, MAKE THEM MULTICOLORED. Like seriously, both Arcee and Elita-1 are main female leads and are still pink. Why has nobody fixed this? TFP was onto something, Arcee looked great blue! And Beast wars the movie made Arcee red! Those are great color choices!

I guess this is prolly where we go into everything that went wrong with the movie.

Like serious, everything was great until Orion Pax decided to suddenly be the 'better person' and stop D-16 from taking out the jerk that literally abused and hurt an entire planet of people! Like, if megayron didn't do it, then I'm sure the 100 million other cybertronians who just realized their entire life was a lie would like to step. LIKE SERIOUSLY ORION. YOU REALLY MESSED UP

and the whole 'leadership' thing at the beginning. Like seriously pax, just cause D-16 wasn't following your orders and going along with your plan (like why even would he? He has literally been the brunt of everything that you messed up. Like that time you stepped out of line, he took the punch for you) and because 'oh no' dark music was playing, didn't mean D-16 was doing anything wrong. He had literally just had his life turned upside down. He was gonna step up, and do something about it. What did you think Pax? That you were gonna be the leader? Well sorry, but the world doesn't always revolve around the white boys.

I just really hated that part. They didn't have to make it like that. Like oh noes, foreshadowing NAH. NAH BRO. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG HAPPENING HERE.

Orion just really messed up. Everything after that point just went to disaster and rubbish. Like, at the end, nobody saw what D-16 did. Nobody knew how he stepped up for his people. How he lead, what he did. And Pax is never gonna tell him. Pax knows what D-16 went through. He knew his best friend was hurting, and he turned on him. And you know what he did afterward? He basically became the next Sentinel Prime. He kept the system that was hurting people in place, and kept information from the public. He didn't tell then what really happened. He painted a pretty picture: Prime good. Megatron and Decepticons back. He didnt give them more options. Limited options, same system, facade of secrets and lies. He is the next Sentinel Prime.

like, not to mention, what are you gonna do about the Quintissons? They're gonna come back, and they're gonna expect their shipload of energon.

Like seriously, what were the Primes even thinking?! Of course they would go for Pax, the teachers pet, lucky little white boy that gets everything without having to work for it like D-16 had to.

But that aside, I've thought of at least two other ways the movie could have gone better.

Pax and D-16 work together. Pax understands D's frustration, and tells him, "you take care of Sentinel Prime, and we'll take care of broadcasting the proof." Two birbs with one stone. Pax listens to D-16's ideas, and realizes that he would make a great leader, he even tells D-16 that he would make a great next Prime. He then takes D-16's as advisor, and they plan out a new and better world together with the people. And what exactly they're gonna do with the Quintissons problem.

Elita-1 and Bee are with D-16 when it happens. Elita was hoping for a punch at Sentinel herself. She is shocked and angered when Prime decides to be a goody-two shoes. And even more horrified when he turns on his own friend. Like seriously, she knew Pax was stupid, but she didn't think he was that stupid. She runs to D-16's side, Bee following (bro rlly doesn't know what's going on, or why his friends are fighting. It makes him sad, he really thought Pax was a nice guy) Elita-1 and Bee retreat with D-16 and the Decepticons. With Prime sitting there like an idiot, being all self-pitying over why his friends are 'betraying' him. Elita and D-16 co-lead, we all know their both good leaders, and Bee is just sort of there. He's almost like the kid of the court, and sweet and innocent, everyone loves him, but he is utterly useless, and does not have a braincell to his name. But they all love him for it. The decepticons male it their goal to reveal Pax's treachery and deceit. And reveal the truth once and for all.

Thats about it, all in all, I loved the movie. Watched it with my family, my mom, my sibling, we'll all with Megatron :3

He steered clear away from you, who was the popular kid. You did well in class and were absolutely gorgeous (he couldn't deny that).

Everyone knew you. They'd greet you in the halls with a smile or a shy wave. You were perfect, it was as if the world revolved around you. He heard stories about you, how you always tried to help anyone in class.

“Y/n? Oh yeahhh, the one from my English Class. Yeah they're cool as hell, they helped me the one time I didn't attend class.”

“They're in my P.E. class! I don't know how they do it but they totally rock that uniform, especially the ass— uh you won't tell them I said that right?”

“Great student. Always passes work on time, they're always doing some type of extra curricular so I don't know how they manage that. A role model indeed, they'll succeed in life— no matter what path they choose.”

He was jealous, how can you do it so easily? Him? He was just there. He wasn't bullied, he had acquaintances and people he talked to regarding school work but it was just that. It stopped at that. He sometimes thinks the only reason he wasn't bullied was because his family is well-off, even if he was the third son— who was forgotten more often than not his family wouldn't want anyone to think they were a push over.

People only ever talked to him because they needed something, because they wanted to use him for the English project they forgot to do or ask him to be their partner in an assignment so he can do all the work load. His appearance didn't make it any better, he wasn't conventionally attractive, he looked like he was in constant pain with his furrowed brows and had terrible eye bags hidden away with his specs.

So when he was invited to a party hosted by his batch he immediately accepted wanting to change. He promised to himself before going inside the door, he was going to meet people, have fun and get shit faced.

Spoiler. It didn't go as he planned.

An hour into the party he was hugging the toilet seat on the second floor of the huge mansion. Okay, Maybe he got too excited and was peer pressured into a drinking contest but at least he was included, right? That was important, to be part of them, to be like them.

He embarrassingly screeched so loud when a hand gently tapped him on the shoulder. He whipped his head to see you holding bottled water with a sheepish smile.

“Hey uhm, sorry about my friend, he just got excited since you like rarely join these types of things. I uh- saw you running up the stairs so I brought you water, so you can flush all the toxins from your system.” You explained, holding the bottle towards him.

“Oh.” He dumbly said, he reached the water and slightly brushed your hand in doing so. It was only for a moment but he felt the thick callousness of your hands. “Thanks.”

“If you don't mind… I can bring you to your place? I'm not a drinker myself, so I'm sober and can totally bring you home if you don't wanna stay here anymore.” You offered.

Not a party person? He expected the opposite to be honest. He thought about it before agreeing. He definitely did not want to stay any longer, he could feel the headache bouncing inside his head.

“Sure.”

Your car looked a little old but smelled and looked clean, he knew a handful of college students who kept their space tidy. There wasn't any type of air freshener which he was glad about, he hated those especially the citrus scents it would've added to his growing migraine. He pushed his head back onto the plush car seat, it smelled like you. Clean.

“You have arrived at your destination.”

“Woah, this place is nice.” You said looking out the window in awe, “Wanna live somewhere this nice in the future, comfortably.” You said to him with a toothy grin.

He looked toward your smiling face with a surprised look, you enjoy things as simple as this? The place wasn't cheap but at the end of the day it wouldn't leave a dent in his bank account alone. “Yea it is nice, thanks for the ride by the way.” He replied sparingly, but nevertheless you still beamed at him.

He walked out of the car and was about to head inside the building when he heard your voice call out. He looked behind in surprise, did you need something else from him?

You jogged closer to him before handing out your phone, “If you don't mind, can I have your number?” You asked shyly at him.

Huh. That was it? Just his number? He looked skeptically before typing it in, he hopes he won't regret it in the future.

He dried his hair with a towel, by now he hoped that all the alcohol was flushed out. He still had a headache and felt like it wasn't gonna subside.

He glanced at his phone from the table and saw messages pop-out.

about yer mario hottakes im rollin in with thoughts on the mario-luigi dynamic.

i've heard so many people go back and forth between them having this 100% perfect brotherly love VS. mario is evil and hates poor baby luigi but i think that maybe it's just they're both complex characters and mario deeply insecure

like that tennis scene where he grinds luigi's foot after luigi wins instead of him. when your whole livelihood revolves around being the kingdom's favorite boy it makes sense you might lash out at being upstaged even if that's fucked up as hell to do to anybody. and while luigi's allowed and expected to outwardly express his fears (at least from diary entries i've seen in the paper mario series and luigi's general "coward" persona), who the hell is listening to mario? he's probably seen how shit people treat luigi for being vulnerable anyway (we play as mario usually witnessing all this and like. bros are real yikes to luigi), so i'd imagine the bottled up bitterness at the world is hard to contain. resentment towards luigi for being emotionally open, resentment towards the denizens of the kingdom for treating his brother like crap when mario probably wouldn't be too different if it wasn't his job to be

i'd imagine the moments he cant contain his cool like that are deep regrets. sure, luigi would forgive him, but can he forgive himself? can mario contain himself long enough to not wig out, especially with everyone watching him 24/7?

idk if this is super off base, i don't go to this school. but imo put mario in therapy, you can't be strong for everyone all the time. you're just some guy

YEAHYEAH i think even if the middle section is YMMV i do agree with the general idea that "the bros' relationship is more complex than 'they love each other' or 'they hate each other'" . like ok. being the most BANAL of canon-compliant here to reel back my own insanity for a second. it is canon that mario gets a bit competitive with luigi/his friends! we see multiple art pieces/cutscenes depicting this

because they are siblings. and im gonna be so real here i latch onto any sort of flaw mario is ALLOWED to have due to his status as Mascot so you can pry "mario gets a bit too competitive" from my cold dead hands

he's also shown to be a bit impatient if he percieves something is taking too much time

ALL THAT TO SAY. i think even if you're just playing by the rules, i think you don't have to JUST go for one extreme or the other. i agree. the rest is purely speculative fanon applying some depth to a character who functionally does not necessarily "need" it.

(but my personal playground space interp of mario and luigi absolutely has this sort of clashing dualism where both bros are really stressed out with the hand that life has given them and they're always thinking "my brother doesn't know how good he has it" but they love each other despite that, and that love makes them not want to talk about how they really feel, and that makes it WORSE, etc etc etc)

Hello hello I started following you after seeing your wonderful LeGuin art, and I was really curious about your novel as well, if you’d be willing to share a little bit about it…👀

Oooooooh, thank you so much!!!!! 🥺 Omg, my novel… Thank you for asking this question. Tbh I can talk about it for hours, but I’ll do my best to be concise.

Disclaimer: I mostly write in Spanish, which is my native language, and the novel is far from being completed (I'm currently at around 25% of the first draft of the first book). So don't expect to find it in the shelves of your local bookshop any time soon, sorry...

Anyways, I actually believe my story is partly inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin’s work. I first read The Left Hand Of Darkness when I was around 23, which was also the time I started to develop stories of my own (mostly through GMing), and also got heavily interested in human evolution and anthropology. And I know LHOD had a heavy influence on me (on how I understand gender and humanity, for instance). So it would make sense that there is some of it in my work.

The story I'm working on will probably be a bilogy or trilogy. It explores the theme of two different human groups making contact with each other after being isolated for hundreds of thousands of years (at this point they’re two different species). It’s epic fantasy with a substantial science component (mostly anthropology and cell biology) and delves deep into colonialism, genocide, faith, trauma, queerness and empathy.

Now, to the juicy stuff. There are two main characters: Delshed and Vahna.

Delshed is a military officer from the Celestial Empire. After years hating what his job has made him do, he has left the army to pursue diplomacy. However, he is called back to it and tasked with the mission to eradicate the ‘demons’ that are attacking the empire’s eastern border. He then says: well okay let’s go they’re demons they have no soul so I can go kill them with my mind at peace (he is very religious, and celestial faith states all souls are sacred, hence his conflict with his own occupation). The problem is the enemy is way harder to fight than anyone had expected, and his soldiers pay the price. Which tears him apart. And let's say he doesn’t have the healthiest coping mechanisms in the world.

Here’s an old sketch of the problematic yet handsome man:

On the other hand, Vahna (she/they), whose name is Keahane at the start of the novel, is a warrior of a Heruze clan, aka one of the ‘demons’ that are attacking the empire. When the Celestials first arrived to their native land, the Heruze were massacred and displaced, and now they’re cornered into a barely inhabitable mountain range, hiding and slowly dying from hunger. So they decide to try and take back their land. Their advantages are: 1) the empire has mostly forgotten them and 2) they have the power to grow and modify the tissues in their own bodies at will. Keahane is a bleeder (one of the 3 Heruze genders), an expert at body modification, and one of their best warriors. However, horrified after being ordered to kill a whole family from the empire, they do something that is forbidden for their gender: voicing their opinion. They are then banished from the clan and stripped from their name (the worst possible punishment for their people). Their whole arc then revolves around finding out who they really are and what they want.

So the story starts with a war between these groups, which leads to Delshed and Vahna unexpectedly clashing in the battlefield. The central point of the novel is how they, instead of killing each other, end up bridging the gap that exists between them and, after much conflict, become a sort of precarious link between the two species. Which ends up spiraling into a revolution that will rattle the predatory foundations of the empire itself.

You may have seen other characters in my pieces. Such as Isenjat, one of Delshed’s officers and also his best friend. She is totally on board with eradicating the Heruze because one of them killed her first love and left her with permanent injuries that turned her life into a nightmare. She can be an insufferable spite-driven asshole sometimes but I love her.

And the other icon I draw the most is Tairitz, who appears quite late in the story, but also has me obsessed. He's a musician and a storyteller, of an ethnic minority absorbed by the empire long ago. He has lost everything yet somehow manages to be the emotionally healthiest and most deconstructed member of the cast. As an anarchist, he will be more than happy to join a revolution. It may pose a bit of an internal conflict if he falls for the imperial prince tho. Which he totally won't.

As you may have guessed, most of the cast is queer. I really really wanted an ace protagonist who would manage to have beautiful romantic relationships in which their identity is not only respected but honoured, and that is Delshed. Vahna, through the discovery of her own identity, allows me to question the whole construct of gender. And I don't know, I was craving complex and beautiful stories about queer people healing together and making the world a better place. There aren't that many in fantasy (although thankfully that's changing).

If you've read through all this, you have my eternal gratitude. I love these characters with my whole heart and they are the thing that has kept me going through very dark times. 🥺

What's the point of making Ozzie a demon if he's not going to be evil, dangerous and deadly like demons are supposed to be? Vivziepop sucks at making demon characters.not only do her characters look nothing like demons and now they don't act like ones??? Hazbin Hotel is doomed,might as well make Hazbin a preschool show at this point.its also embarrassing that the king of hell (Lucifer) is just Stolas 2.0 from reading the leaked scripts.Id like to add more but im far too tired because this is getting absurdly painful.

I think there is valid criticism in this critique, but I also feel that, in a way, it is rather exaggerated outrage.

When it comes to demons behaving any specific way, that mainly comes down to poor world building. Spindlehorse has done very little to actually dictate how this world of hers works, and many times, it appears she actively contradicts values previously assumed.

Are there vastly different laws and social expectations between rings?

Loo Loo Land, and once again in Oops, Greed is shown to have an extremely lax approach to crimes of violence.

However, in Harvest Moon, having previously killed people results in Millie being banned from participating in the episode.

Stolas being in public with Blitz gets no notice or response of attention in Harvest Moon and again later in Ozzie's. But then the internal logic contradicts that same episode with Walley acting like it is actually a huge deal. And then for a third time the series presents an about face with Beelzebub dating Tex as if there is nothing special going on there.

Stolas cheats, but he is not wrong for that, which makes it not a flaw.

Then, the world building tries to reinforce the idea that this relationship would be a problem by trying to highlight a demon racial and status divide in Western Energy. Only for Queen Bee and Oops to backtrack again and make it extremely normalized with Beelzebub dating a common Hell Hound and Asmodeus' conflict not being about who he is dating, but the act of dating in the first place.

Going into the idea of "good" and "evil," I don't really think that is a good argument to make. There has to be some sense of conflict for a story to maintain interest, and if the idea of "evil" is the norm was played to a logical conclusion, it would feel more like a joke than anything else. Like in Good Omens, where Hell is dictated by doing the worst thing possible and anything that produces a moral positive is bad. It would completely isolate the audience from the values of the cast, which is why Crowley is depicted as having a personality and values more aligned to humans. As such, it doesn't feel like a good faith platform to stand on when criticizing the show.

What I will say is fair, however, is that Medrano has achieved an Olympic medal in trying to make her characters entirely flawless. There is no consistent character flaw that any of her cast maintains out of what is deemed necessary by the plot or depicted as not a flaw by context.

Asmodeus is quite literally perfect for Vivienne's standards. His whole life revolves around his partner, and he is willing to do whatever it takes for that partner, including murder. But that is good, actually.

Blitz is inconsistently too insecure in his relationships. He's insecure when it comes to FizzaRolli and Stolas, resulting in him burning down his own family home and violently rejecting Stolas after the night at Ozzie's. But he's so secure in other relationships that: (1) despite knowing Barbie doesn't want to see him, he tracks her down, (2) he is overbearing of Loona despite feeling like she hates him, (3) abuses Moxxie, despite having issues with losing people.

And I think that's what this criticism is actually addressing. A lack of understanding the stakes and values the world plays on while simultaneously being handed characters who are so volatile in their own values every time we see them that it is pretty much impossible to defer those values passively.

fabby for both. i know this to be true. honestly, if it wasn't for fabby falling for her to begin with- and making an effort to get closer to her than coworkers probably had ought to be- i don't know if solaris ever would have fallen back. it takes until fabby enters the picture for solaris to actually learn that romance is something that she would be willing to work for and care about.

this isn't to say that solaris didn't fall painfully hard. honestly, the only reason fabby fell harder is because of her deep and horribly repressed yearning that threatened to explode out of her chest every time she was in the privacy of her own home. but- as someone who headcanons solaris as a demiromantic who... doesn't really have friends- the lane change from platonic to romantic attraction hit her like a freight train.

imagine some late-thirties-early-forties 6'2 horrifyingly scarred woman experiencing the equivalent of a grade school crush for the first time. if it didn't feel so good it would be fucked up. you mean to tell her this happens to 'regular' people all the time?? what's wrong with them???

in any universe in which fabbylaris is possible, i would imagine zor is out of the picture- either permanently, or that they're just not living under their all-seeing eye anymore. i think that one of fabby's biggest concerns about their relationship (whether she's consciously aware of it or not) is how zor molded her into exactly what they wanted her to be.

fabby well and truly thought she was trapped under zor's thumb forever. she didn't have a choice. her every decision and action and thought needed to revolve around them. her loyalty- first and foremost- was to them...

but solaris was always there for her. a hand on her shoulder. an advocate once she was too far gone to vouch for herself anymore. a breath of fresh air. a constant reminder that the way they were treating her wasn't right. wasn't normal. wasn't loving. she would fight against zor of all people, for... her sake? no one would have done that...

as for solaris? there's a reason why she doesn't have a lot of friends. she's very... leery of the way people perceive her. she's spent her entire life dealing with people who are either terrified of her, hate her on the basis of nothing, or undervalue her when she damn well knows her worth.

... and it wasn't that fabby wasn't like that in the beginning. the two of them couldn't have been any less alike. but fabby... changed. it took a lot of time, but she fought through her pride and grew to outwardly respect her and her work. and eventually, to love her. to teach her that there's such a thing as love worth clinging to...

she kind of resolved to the fact that no one who started with a bad impression of her on the basis of nothing would ever change... that there was no reason to try convincing them to change. but fabby broke her expectations in a way that kind of shattered her worldview at the time.

he's just a little guy because he is just a little guy. he makes cute drawings for his dads and hangs out with his friends and has a bunch of siblings and is learning the flute and has a gun. he's 5 days old and he already lost a life

if he dies it's the beginning of so many terrible arcs. what is Forever's grind for if not his son's safety- to end the world, to get phil to love him? who does the emerald in Felps's house belong to? what's the point of the football field? what's the point of all the training? what if you lose a third (?) chance.

he's Quackity's hope, also, I guess, to be the parent he tried to be but never could, even if all he has is 1% of his custody

It doesn't make him value his life the way they want it to- instead, it convinces him he can't, by any means, let himself get killed, otherwise his dads will end up like 1% dad quackity (very very sad), and his siblings will mourn him and that won't be nice

he's an incredibly sweet kid- this isn't an hc as much as it's an Actual Real On God fact, I just think it's very important

because he is such a sweet kid, the lessons about hurting other things are the ones that he dislikes most

he loves tax evasion it's his favorite crime to commit

he picks up other people's habits very easily! things like tics, stims, speech patterns, etc

he's scared being manco will make his dads like him less. no matter how many times they tell him it's fine, he feels he has to compensate for it somehow

his gun is like a comfort object to him, and staying away from it for too long makes him very uncomfortable

despite being scared of bulls, he doesn't hate them, not like Leo hates whales, for example. Killing that bull he had gotten phisically close to wasn't pleasant

as he grows, he tries to put on a bit of a tougher persona because of, especially, Cellbit's expectations, although all the other dads' also contribute in different ways

ultimately, he sucks at keeping that up, and 99,9% of people can see right through him

he cherishes his first stolen emerald so so much

he uses braces due to his bad leg! that leg stops at the knee, and Forever is working on a prosthetic for him

he loves watching Forever work on the prosthetic, and will often comment on things he wants on it

he has a hard time understanding romance, due to having 5 dads who aren't in love with each other, Chayanne's dad being one of his dad's crush (he THINKS that's it), whatever cellbit and roier have going, etc

1. What are your OC’s best and worst qualities? What do they think are their best and worst qualities?

Jovial's best quality is probably his kindness. The world is cruel, he knows it is cruel, he is a devout follower of a chaotic neutral god, and yet he chooses kindness. His worst is blind devotion to his faith probably.

Jovial would say his best quality is his faith, because his entire everything revolves around his faith. According to him, his worst quality is that he is sometimes vindictive. He knows it's normal and tbh should be expected of him as a cleric of his god, but he wants to choose to be kind, and so he does have mixed feelings about it.

14. How is their relationship with their family? Which family member are they closest to?

Jovial doesn't know his biological family and if he were to meet them that would be a disaster for everyone in the city the meeting happens in.

16. How do other characters in the story view them?

Several of the NPCs we've met have been impressed and slightly afraid of Jovial just for the sheer power he can put out in a fight.

I adore this show (the plots! the dialogues and rich language! the local color! the insane tribal loyalties clashing with centralized authority, and the people caught in the middle!) and two characters who are so fascinating in their own right and who should have interacted more in canon! I love how Rachel is so non-nonsense, dedicated, and capable, and never passes up the opportunity to point out racial and gender nonsense when she sees it happening and affecting her in her work. And Boyd is just the poetically-spoken, ruthless, manipulative yet sincere, forever outlaw of my heart. I ship them, yes, but don’t worry too much whether your fic is “shippy enough” – I am good with innuendo, subtext, a mutual attraction which ambushes them and is so inconvenient, something implied but maybe the characters themselves aren’t ready to deal with what it would mean for them, or full-on shippiness! Feel free to include any other canon character, I love them all. As for Boyd/Ava and Rachel/her husband, you can work those relationships into the story, handwave them, break them up off-screen, whatever works for what you’re writing.

Canon-specific DNW: anything more intense, sex- and violence-wise, than an M rating; basically keep it to canon levels of violence/gore/sex.

Prompts:

-Boyd has to work with the Marshals (again, or divergence from one of the canon occasions), and this time Rachel rather than Raylan is his contact/minder. Plots and schemes and double-crosses, oh my!

-Rachel once acknowledged Boyd’s silver tongue. Let it get them both out of a bad situation. How does it hold up against Rachel’s unimpeachable stake on the moral high ground?

-Rachel is on Boyd’s prisoner transport once he’s in federal custody. Does she help him escape (shades of Elmore Leonard’s Out of Sight)? What would it take to get straight-shooting Rachel to make that choice? Or does he try to get her to break all the rules, but fails for reasons I leave up to you?

-Spoilers for Justified: City Primeval: once Boyd busts out of Tramble, the Kentucky Marshals’ office calls Rachel rather than Raylan to deal with it. She’s been promoted and moved to a different office, ten years later she might even be working at Marshals’ HQ in the DC area, so how happy is she about having to return to Kentucky to deal with goddamn Crowders? And why did Boyd bust out? And how much trouble can they cause each other, since middle age hasn’t slowed either of them down one bit?

-Boyd trying to pull the wool over Rachel’s eyes and her not having it. Having to work together or Rachel needing to use Boyd as a informant, and how that might shade into flirting, and how Rachel might feel about that, given Boyd’s past (even if, as Raylan said, Boyd’s too smart to really believe in white supremacy, there’s still his lifelong criminality). The beginnings of a good working relationship or friendship or affection, and how frustrating and difficult that would be, because they are who they are. Or the later stages of a relationship, when somehow they make it work, however tense it gets at times.

-For something more explicitly shippy, give me a strong hate/love (Rachel would be horrified to fall for a con, let alone this con!), “I know this is a terrible idea” dynamic. Give me their having to work together and/or antagonistic flirting/confessions of feelings. Give me UST, thwarted desire, angry longing. This may be a tall order, but I’d be super into non-issue-y ship fic which somehow deals with or touches on the fact that while Boyd’s white-supremacy period was almost wholly bull, he’s still the guy with a swastika tattooed on his arm, and Rachel is African-American.

-There be somethin’ spooky lurkin’ in them there hills! Maybe it’s just the usual bunch of hillbillies with more firepower than brains, maybe it’s something genuinely eldritch. Marshals and local crime lords walk right into it, and then these strange bedfellows (ha ha) need to get each other out.

The Cleaning Lady

Thony De La Rosa/Arman Morales

Edit: the news of Adan Canto's death just broke and I have no words. But I still want fic for this canon, so no worries if you're thinking of writing me that. I enjoy the heck out of this trashy show -- it's basically a fanfic of itself, with the plot just there to prop up the glory which is the central ship. (This is why I think S1 was much stronger than S2 -- I don't watch this for the plot twists, I watch it for Thony and Arman's nuclear-grade UST and occasional lapses into near-RST and those fantasy sequences, did you see those, they were wild!) I love how Thony is always very intense, on-task, doesn't flirt, doesn't go out of her way to make herself appealing -- and she doesn't need to because Arman Morales, big time gangster and all-around smooth operator, would happily take a bullet for her any day. And I love Arman's suaveness as well as his moments of, hm, let's call it near-menace rather than real menace. He's still the guy who'll kill when he needs to or do a little light torture to get what he wants, because that's the life he chose, but he's not a sadist, and through his connection with Thony, he starts to see both the roads not taken and the roads he might yet take. And when knocked down a few pegs by the events of S2, Thony weirdly becomes a reliable presence in his life -- just as she's relied on him even before she fully trusted him.

Not a must, but if you want to throw in some untranslated Spanish and/or Tagalog, or some more details about the characters' backgrounds as immigrants, I'd be down for that. Generally I'd enjoy something closer in spirit to S1 than S2 (see prompts). Also, if you want to bring in any of the side-characters, that's fine: I especially enjoy Nadia (who is awesome and she gets the short end of the stick, she held up her end of the bargain and now her husband is running around with a woman who is so very different from Nadia, really she should dump Arman and stop relying on men to define her and build her own criminal empire) and Fiona (especially the moments when she has to deal head-on with Thony's other life, like her anger after she discovers how deep in Thony is and that Thony never even told her, or everything about Fiona reacting to meeting Arman and watching Arman and Thony interact).

Canon-specific DNWs: demonizing Nadia (handle her marriage to Arman any way you want - they break up, cheating, perhaps-reluctantly open marriage, Nadia being justifiably angry, whatever, just don't make Nadia the bad guy); having the whole fic revolve around the kids (they can appear, just don't make them central to the story); plot focused only on Luca's illness; Marco appearing in-story (you can mention him).

Prompts:

-Road trips! On the run together! Sneaking in and out of the country, by land, air, or sea! You and me against the world!

-Your version of how S3 kicks off: Thony and Arman are now smuggling prescription meds from the Philippines, Thony has seemingly embraced the criminal life (I love the moments when Thony gets her gangster on and Arman's like "attagirl"), and she wants to bring Fiona back to the USA. What happens next? Is Fiona grateful or angry? What complications arise in this new business venture? How does working together as equals affect Thony and Arman's dynamic?

-Arman spends more time in prison, which of course means more insanely UST-ish visits from Thony, more clandestine phone calls, maybe a prison break?

-Ignore S2 entirely and write your own continuation of S1. What comes after the hand holding and "I'm staying here for you" and passing of the secret messages, and Arman trusting Thony rather than Nadia with the crypto, and Thony's new legal business, and the Feds still breathing down everyone's necks?

-More like the nearly-a-bottle-episode when they kidnap the sleazy motel manager. Throw the characters together into a confined space and a pressure-cooker situation, and let it rip.

-More of Thony actually using her cleaning and/or medical skills in her role as part of Arman's criminal operation.

-More quiet moments of getting to know each other and how similar (and how different) they are, like the bar scene in S1 when Thony (shows she trusts Arman the most when she) admits that she's spying on Arman for the Feds.

-One of them has to put the other one in danger for reasons. How do they get them(selves) out, and how does this affect their dynamic?

-S2 sets up and then basically drops the idea of Thony, Nadia, and Arman being equal partners in drug/med smuggling. How would that work in the long run?

-While Arman's heart-eyes have been obvious from the jump, Thony plays her cards closer to her chest and has been more reluctant about giving in to the attraction. What would need to happen for her to just dive in, come what may?

Oliver Baumer/Eric Love

Yes I do ship it, I do, I do!

Ahem. Don’t get me wrong, I liked what the movie did with the father-son relationship and its influence on both men’s character development – but I really wish they hadn’t got Oliver out of the action before the story’s climax (not like that!). The final denouement with Love father and Love son was great, as was the hint at the end that Eric learned something in anger-management group and has a support network that will help him a lot. But. I would have wanted to see more of the intriguing dynamic between Eric the intelligent, semi-feral, yet not-incorrigible, young thug and Oliver the educated, dedicated, kind yet aware of his own potential for violence (what was he on about with “I need to be here”?), slightly older counselor. They had me at Oliver’s “I want him” and Eric later telling his father that Oliver’s a better man than Love Sr. Also the not-flirting and the push-pull in the scene when Oliver picks up Eric from his cell - yowza!

Exception to blanket DNW: dubcon is a-okay! If you decide to go there, my preferred flavors of dubcon for this canon are: power differential makes it a bad idea but they do it anyway; “I know you want this”; “if the answer’s no/you’re only doing this for a dare or to prove a point, then why are you enjoying this so much [as am I]?”; no no yes a.k.a. starts as dubcon (or one of them thinks they’re dubconning the other), becomes enthusiastic consent.  

Also, if this is relevant or makes you nervous about writing for me, Eric would be 18-19, and Oliver is maybe 10-12 years older – and I like it!!! (The actors were 22 and 31 when the movie was made, FWIW.)

Prompts:

-I would love to see Oliver return to holding his group in prison, so the two of them can interact more, either in the movie’s immediate aftermath or years down the line, as it’s implied that Eric will be serving a long sentence. Give me more scenes from anger management or the ribald, honest, free-flowing conversations in group, either with the other men present (I liked Hassan and Tyrone especially, among the group members) or a one-on-one session.

-An oblique or open-but-undramatic admission/declaration that they both know there’s something there, even if they don’t know what to do with it. Or, one or both of them knows exactly what to do with it, and the push-pull that would result from that.

-Dirty talk: used for arousal, as a defense mechanism, as a form of flirtation. Eric using slurs to assert dominance, and Oliver not letting him hide behind profanity, when he can use colorful language to express emotion and/or sexual interest. There could definitely be some verbal taunting/flirting about who wants/is eager to do what or is good at doing something. There may be some sniping comments about logistics and (lack of) condoms and barebacking and what men get up to in prison. There probably wouldn’t be deep discussions about sexual identity.

-An emergency in the prison requires a lock-down, so Oliver gets temporarily stuck in Eric’s cell or another room with only Eric for company. Things get porny and/or emotional.

-Eric is eventually released (you can handwave this so it happens soon after the movie or have it happen years later) and crashes with Oliver while he adjusts to the outside world. You guessed it: things get porny and/or emotional.

-Oliver is sentenced to prison (maybe he gets done for GBH after attacking Deputy Governor Haynes), and now Eric is the more knowledgeable and "well-adjusted" one, the one with skills Oliver desperately needs. The balance between them shifts, so how does that affect this burgeoning something between them?

-How do they get to the point where both can cross that line from friends/whatever the hell they are and become, to lovers? (There’s Eric’s personal history and general discomfort with vulnerability, plus all the ways prison sex can be or make things complicated, and if it helps, I headcanon Oliver as either gay or bi and at least somewhat closeted, at work especially.) Who initiates and “directs traffic”? How does their always-contentious dynamic shift during and after sex? Is the sex an isolated (series of) occasion(s), or a progression/escalation over multiple encounters (how would I love especially an escalating series of encounters, let me count the ways)? Eric might seem like the logical initiator and/or dominant partner as well as using the possibility of sex to manipulate and exert control, but then Oliver might (or might not!) surprise him and is definitely the one more in touch with himself as well as aware of his custodial duty toward the men in the group.

-At some point in their intimate relationship (probably not right at the start, and probably not in prison, though if you can make it happen in prison, more power to you!), Oliver decides he’s going to take his sweet time and make Eric fall absolutely apart with pleasure, while using dirty talk to both arouse and empower Eric to own his desires – by that point, Eric is in a place where he can let that happen and enjoy it, even if he still talks tough.

-Or how about this: Eric gets out, relationship happens or is in the process of being negotiated, and while physical intimacy is a whooooole neeeeeew woooorld, you know what else would be cool? Phone sex. Yep. Or even, Eric gets himself one of those secret prison burner phones (preferably hidden somewhere that’s not someone’s arse), and… phone sex after lights-out and lock-down. Maybe nothing (much) has happened physically (yet), so phone sex can be a building block to that or one facet of that deepening intimacy.

-For smut: any top/bottom (or switching) combo is good. Hand jobs incl. mutual, masturbation, blowjobs, 69, intercrural, frottage, anal fingering, finger sucking, rimming, anal – all good.

Sigh, where to begin? How about the beginning. Long time Zelda fan who started with Ocarina of Time, which was quite the event back then - big enough to get trailers in movie theaters even! Loved BotW, and even though some would say that wasn’t Zelda enough for a game, I felt it was Just Enough and so I comfortably place it at 3rd for Zelda games overall, behind Wind Waker and my favorite of the bunch, Majora’s Mask. Played most, but not all. Played enough to know where BotW2/TotK went wrong as a Zelda game. It fails at being one in so many ways, and while that’s not the only reason I ended up hating it, it’s an important one.

Let’s talk about one of the core elements of Zelda games, the dungeons. Most, if not all play these out similarly. Each dungeon’s built around a specific item. They’re meant to be a progression of sorts in difficulty and slowly add to a core inventory of tools and weapons you’re eventually expected to use at the end of the game as you make your way to the final boss, whose often Ganon(dorf).

BotW did away with these in favor of smaller “dungeons” and a multitude of shrines with 1-3 room puzzles that may or may not revolve around Link’s main abilities thrown at him in the sectioned off tutorial-land at the start of the game. A lot of these shrines were...okay, didn’t hate them, though we’ve all rolled our eyes at the absurd amount of Test of Strengths and Nothing Shrines that count some overworld obstacle/puzzle in place of there being anything worthwhile inside. I struggle to remember most of these 4 years later (shout outs to Eventide), along with any of the main “dungeons,” save for the grand finale event that took place in Hyrule Castle.

That was easily the most memorable area, one you could tackle immediately after the tutorial’s done, and that’s exactly what speedrunners do, the gamers they be. That One Good Dungeon, with its various different entry points and paths through, that you don’t *have* to do yet can, works out as a satisfying final challenge before facing off with Calamity Ganon. While I longed for the older dungeons, this felt like a borderline acceptable trade only because they nailed that ending section (ignoring the final boss fight, or any of the “dungeon” boss fights which were sadly similarly forgettable)

Anyways, BotW2 managed to screw this format up royally in every conceivable way: fourfold, fivefold? Let’s start with the shrines: They’re back, in fact I think there’s more this time.. so many of them were Nothing, and that’s before counting the Nothing Shrines. Why are so many of them dedicated tutorials, ones that teach mechanics learned in BotW1 at that? The worst offender was a bow tutorial that followed a sky diving challenge that I encountered early, but easily could’ve found 50 hours into the game.....Why not have these in the Tutorial Island section of the game? Guessing it’s because they simply didn’t have enough ideas to fill the 150+ shrines they chose to put in this time around. Roughly 1/4 shrines, of the ones I did (max stamina + 20ish heart containers worth) felt like they were worth doing, and that isn’t to say I liked 1/4 shrines either. Some puzzles were so short, so simplistic, that I’d wind up solving them before the loading was done and I regained control of Link. The bloated Tests of Strength were phased out thankfully, but in their place was a watered down Eventide grouping that rarely felt engaging thanks to my displeasure with BotW2 combat.

This might just be me, but trying to understand and get the physics of these games to work is a chore and not at all fun, and there’s so much of it in this game. I got enough amusement out of stasis in BotW1, but with that gone all that was left was either getting such puzzles done in 1 try or in 10+ attempts, never understanding what I did wrong. Nothing Shrines shouldn’t even be a thing I’ve come to realize. There should just be chests in the open world that give you your Blessing. Two unnecessary Switch-length loading times feels insulting at this point, and this is just one of the many ways this game wastes the player’s time. If Sage’s Wills can be found out in the world, and are spent at Goddess Statues, why not Lights of Blessing? The Nothing Shrines that reuse overworld challenges were among the most infuriating, such as the 3 giant mazes. Like many aspects of the game, I felt punished for playing BotW1. It’s so obvious most of these Shrines are warp points first and puzzles second and that became even more painfully evident when you realize so many of them are also tied to Lightroot warp point locations. Just...make a warp system instead?????

They added roughly 150 caves and these suffer the exact same issue. Rarely one feels like it’s worth the effort and they all take so much time to go through. The fact a few of these hide important armor means you can’t just turn around when you find one, either. Wells can now be explored...as well, and none of the ones I found amounted to anything meaningful. The most useful either of these new additions ever felt was in where you wound up afterward when using the new Ascend mechanic, which is one of the few bits of gameplay that felt good and felt like it had constantly been considered for general gameplay and exploration. Unfortunately, this resulted in a similar thought to how “shrines are just warp points” - “caves/wells are just about where you can ascend afterward” - this facet even comes up a few times in the sidequests I bothered to do. This isn’t a bad thing, but it’s an issue when you make 150+ (250ish if you add in the wells) of these little tunnels and have little in form of substance for them. Ones tied to main quests felt acceptable, but again they’re main quests so they’d better be.

There are 6 main “dungeons” in the game, and it’s time to dunk on them I suppose. The Goron minecart venture was ruined by joycon drift constantly making Link walk out of carts against my will, making me wish you could just have a Sit button prompt similar to horses and zonai vehicles (I don’t recall any steering devices in the Goron “dungeon”). The Rito ship/Zora dungeons were a whole big Nothing whereas the climbs up to them were actually kinda fun. They reused half of Hyrule Castle. They actually make you do laps around it to fight monsters and that’s apparently a “dungeon.” Sigh. Don’t even want to talk about the Mineru one, as I hated the fuse mechanic (loved Thunderhead though, we’ll get to that in a separate post). The Gerudo Temple was just about the only serviceable “dungeon” and even then I felt disappointed because I tried using Ascend all over that place, thinking and hoping they’d have some fun elaborate puzzle tied to it but I was just sequence breaking and doing areas early which was only slightly fun, since Riju was stuck a few floors down.. I wonder if the dungeons could’ve worked out better if given their own separate loading zones, similar to shrines, if trying to fit them into the world was an issue.

The final path to Ganondorf is a long, winding stretch littered with enemies. I ran past all of them, I was so done with the game at that point, and I felt like nothing of value was skipped as a result. Had to fight a big enemy gauntlet at the end anyway! Also, anything related to caves, wells, and the underground looked awful to me, visually. There was a constant fog in the air that weighed down the exploration as it made things unnecessarily hard to see. The beauty of the overworld - I’d seen that already, in the first game. There’s some beauty in the Sky Islands, but that’s about all you get this time around, that’s new, with only a few exceptions that we’ll get into later. As for the other bosses? Design wise, I loved them, but combat wise.. ridiculously easy and fights shorter than the cutscenes that played before and after them. Most of the bosses not requiring any unique move or ability to defeat just reinforced how this game’s open ended nature means you can’t require the player to use anything specific most of the time. The rare instance a sage ability was required, it was awful because this implementation itself was awful, but more on that in a later post where I rant about combat.

...I feel I didn’t appreciate the better dungeons of past Zelda games enough after finishing BotW2/TotK. Skyward Sword’s Desert dungeons were -fantastic-. Still remember most of the Ocarina/Majora’s Mask ones. Wind Waker’s were so few that it’s hard to forget how they played out. Even Twilght Princess with some of its...weirder moments, like the Icy manor and beyblade dungeon. Tarm Ruins also fondly comes to mind. I’m gonna miss these experiences. It’s feeling pretty evident we won’t be getting anything else like them from this series going forward. Hope I’m wrong, though.

nat went thru The Horrors and once it was kinda “over” and they were on their own they were like ok. u know how i can deal with this. by literally becoming an entirely different person and pretending none of this ever happened to me!!!!!!!! i really need to write their toyhouse page because they have so much lore and i dont have it compiled anywhere LMAO nat is my oldest oc and theyre a terrible person (SLASH SILLY THEY ARE 13 YEARS OLD) i HATE them!!!!! because they lack their own identity their entire existence kind of revolves around their loved ones and since their loved ones are constantly in danger from various plot related threats (nat oberon and avery are all multiverse/“versetraveler” ocs so theyre involved with some friends ocs and theoretically various fictional characters because im a NERD) nat now has a horrible savior/hero complex. so they feel like even though their loved ones dont expect them to protect them theyre tired of putting in so much effort and energy into keeping people happy and safe and not receiving anything back (even though theyve given 0 indication tbat theyre struggling at any point because they refuse to tell anybody the truth about anything involving their own life) i have a whole more specific infodump i can send screenshots of later

OBERON!!!!! oberon is one of my older ocs as well (most of my favs tend to be) and he was exiled from the realm of the gods after being convicted guilty of murdering his sister, leaving his brother and his other sister to take on both their own roles as well as the roles of the missing siblings!!!! oberon and his siblings (olivia, ophelia, and orsino) were gods relating to the seasons because the god of life has such a broad range of jobs he created lesser gods to handle things like animals and earthly change and such. oberon was the god of autumn but not anymore :’D now hes just some batshit old dude who walks around talking to feral animals and giggling with nobody. his toyhouse is here and has more fleshed out info :3 minus the backstory stuff sorry LOL im sure ill figure out how i wanna share that sometime but ill be happy to share in dms if u want later his story is actually in the same world/universe as nat!!!!! and their universe is connected to averys just bc both of them are versetravelers and so theres like this big multiverse thing going on so theyre technically connected?? but they dont interact much since theyre still different universes //shrug

last but not least my greasy boy axel. his friend got MAD and was hospitalized when he was like i wanna say 12-13ish?? and so his gradual decline began here. he started dedicating himself to finding all the information he possibly could on alternates and how people handled them and stuff hoping to gain some insight on how to save his friend (which eventually devolved into this but also needing to prove people wrong about him) he stopped going to school at some point and when he was probably around 14 (hes currently 15) he started suspecting his sister, melodie (13 y/o), was replaced by an alternate so then he stopped leaving his room and hes not doing so hot. someone take away this kids monster energy and make him shower he is FILTHY his parents want to help him but they have 0 clue what to do about this. so theyve been kinda indirectly enabling this behavior and theyre just trying to support him and his issues but someone needs to lock him outside to touch grass i swear

Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter 204 Thoughts. 

I thought I was not going to have much to say about this week’s chapter, because it is mainly fighting, however, I read a tweet about opening words that got cut out of the English Translation of the chapter. 

“A life they never asked for, but more brothers than they could hope for. 

 A special warmth that is a pillar for his heart there….! Choso and his brothers stand firmly together as one!” 

Which just perfectly summarizes how Choso embodies all of the positives of a sibling relationship. Let’s talk about what Jujutsu Kaisen has to say about siblings underneath the cut. 

1. Big Brother. 

What is unique about Choso is that his entire character revolves around  the role the eldest born / first son / big brother is supposed to play to their family. Which is ironic, because Choso’s family is his mad scientist father, all of the failed creations he got bored of and abandoned, and also the mother who was abused to make him and all of his siblings. 

“A life they never asked for...” is putting it mildly, the life Choso was born into through no choice of his own, is unrelentingly, despair inducing-ly bleak. 

The death painting brother’s response in general to this hopeless situation they were born into, and have relatively no control over is to completely rely on each other. They have no relatoinship to their mother or father, they have only had each other for hundreds of years. 

Which is where much like Choso’s own hybrid nature, they like many cursed spirits  the death paitning brothers horrifying abominations, and yet they regard each other the same way a normal human family would. To the point where Choso’s motivations are incredibly understandable to us the reader because his entire motivation is to try to act as this ideal older brother figure, which could resemble a sibling relationships many humans have or possibly wish for. The way Choso loves his siblings, despite their horrifying origin, is the same way an older brother is expected toc are for his younger brothers, if a bit idealized. 

Choso and his brothers are quite literally aborted fetuses at various stage of fetal developments. They were people never meant to be born into this world. They are not equipped to survive. They were abominations sealed away by Jujutsu Academy, and then two thirds of them were killed by Jujutsu Sorcerers soon after they were born. Nobara and Yuji also kill them without hestiation because they are cursed spirits despite the obvious signs of intelligence they showed, whereas they might have hesitated if they were human curse users. 

Choso’s love for his siblings represents both Choso trying to make the best of the situation he was born into, and an active choice on his part to love his brothers. As stated in the panel above, Choso and his brothers could so easily hate the world for what it did to them, and yet that’s not their objective, they don’t want revenge, purely what they want is to survive. They were never meant to be born, yet they are trying to live in the world, and live for each other. 

Choso, Eso, Kechizu live for the sake of each other, that’s the way they cope and try to make the best of the situation they were born into. However, loving is also an active choice on Choso’s part. There are other siblings born into similiar situations, unhealthy family households who are faced with similiar choices as Choso.

Naoya who has no relationships to his siblings, and at large no relationship to his family treats people as nothing more than dispoable actions, relationships as transactions where he gets something out of them. 

There is another you could draw a comparison between Choso in the Zenin household. Maki and Mai parallel Choso’s relatoinship to his borthers in the fact that twins are considered “cursed” because of the omens associated with them. Maki is also born in a way that makes her an outcast to her clan, having a restriction that makes her unable to see cursed techniques in exhcange for increased strength. Choso and his brothers are the shame of the Kamo family, Maki and Mai are considered shameful by their father Ogi and he blames them as the reason he wasn’t made clan head. Kenjaku similiarly, abandoned the Death Painting Bros because he didn’t consider them interesting 

The way Choso acts as a ig brother, and the way Mai acts as a big sister are markedly different however. Mai and Maki are continually in conflict with one another. While Choso and his brothers do everything together, Mai and Maki are seperate. 

Maki’s intentions may have been to reform the Zenin for Mai’s sake, but she didn’t make that clear to Mai. Mai beleives Maki left her behind, and maybe, Maki did prioritze being strong and defeating the Zenin over her relaitonship with her sister. Maki a staunch individualist would have hated herself if she stayed in that household with Mai forever. 

Maki and Mai are born connected, the same way CHoso and his brothers are all connected to one another, but while their sibling relaitonship is a blessing, something they use to make their situation better Mai internalizes the idea that she is a burden to Maki/. THat she is the reason Maki cannot get stronger. That their connection is holding Maki back. To the point where Mai choosing to die is the thing that finally makes Maki stronger. Maki gets stronger, but only as an indivdual, with her sister permanently lost. 

Maki is stronger now, but she is stronger alone. This is in comparison to Choso who is labeled weak and uninteresting this chapter by his own father. Choso who even considers himself a failure. 

However, Choso always chose his relationship with his brothers over his individual strength. He chose, even to accept and forgive Yuji after learning they were brothers. He is able to find love in his life because he made that choice to love his brothers. Even though two of Choso’s brothers die similiary to Maki and Mai, his situation as a whole is far less tragic. 

And I say it’s a choice because during the same arc where YUji and Co fought the death paintings, there was a clear foiling between Megumi’s relationship with his adoptive sister, and the chosen relationship of the Death Painting brothers. 

Just like how I choose who to help, you choose who to protect me. Megumi and Choso are foils in regars to the fact that they were abndoned by their actual blood fathers, and despite having no family Megumi similiar to Choso chooses to prioritize his adoptive sister who he has no blood relationship’s well being over everything else. 

In all of these cases a good relationship with their sibling isn’t something that happens on his own, it’s a choice made by the characters to try to be good to their siblings.
