sometimes i just sit there and wonder what i identify as.

i grew up in an area where i didn't have much representation of anything, "gay" was an insult and colours were dedicated to specific chromosomes. if you grazed football as a girl, you were seen as a tomboy alongside if you even looked at claires you were just odd. i think some messed up part of me still believes that, despite every fibre in my being disagreeing with it. there wasn't much representation of being homosexual in a form or another, mainly just jacqueline wilson books i peered into with such curiosity and utmost wonder.

it sort of struck me that i was different when i was much younger too. hell, sleepovers with girls scared me since they smelled so "sweet" or they were much prettier than me. we all watched films with the odd kissing scene and wanted to peer into the mirror, maybe attempt at looking into it without shame. it didn't stick, yet it didn't wipe off. i kissed a girl on her cheek in my bedroom when i was about nine, fags the most ive ever done, and i don't count it fully either. i kissed a girl on her hand too but still, that doesn't count in my books. nobody ever had the "it's okay to be gay" talk with me but they never had the "being gay is a sin" either. it just sat uncomfortably in the room. all the pins and homemade flags were just pretty colours opposed to something with significance in this world. ive tossed the majority of the relics besides a pin i bought when i had a sense of freedom for the first time but that's about it at most. we still haven't talked about it, and we don't intend on it either.

i remember my mom watching a tv programme with me, her eyes flickering towards me whilst saying "i don't get why people come out. i get where she was coming from, as if it was natural, but she was also the figure who never brought up these sort of conversations. the woman who made me feel a sense of crushing burden when i felt a sense of anger. i just shrugged it off, and never gave my views on the matter. i think if i had the confidence, i would have said something along the lines of "it's because we live in a society where showing who you really are needs courage".

i think i did tell her i was pansexual when i was younger too, this was during a mist of things where id say random bullshit to them as a joke, hoping they'd want to linger nearby. i haven't said a word yet.

gender was another thing that puzzled me, which still does. i never really thought much about it, i just thought you were female, male, or non-binary. that's it. no more options, just three buttons and you could click one. i used to lie awake, my mind thinking about issues for me to go 'holy shit am i trans??' which obviously still happens; why would i be writing this out otherwise? i dipped into being demigirl to nonbinary to immediately agender and i sort of sat there, sticking a label on it like they have to me with other diagnoses. i go from wanting big tits and being the epitome of feminine beauty to wanting to have top surgery and going by a new name. i know gender is a spectrum, but some part of me knows everyone around me wouldn't accept me, thinking im more mentally ill than i am.

i don't know why i decided to type this out either. maybe to give myself clarity instead of chastising myself for what's happened in my world.

ive only ever dated afabs. one cis. one somewhere between demigirl and nonbinary and the other transmasc. i know i hurt them one way or another, and so did they. i speak to one of them a few times now and again but for the other two, i apologised to one of recent and it's stuck to my mind. the other i fucked up so bad it hurts to look into a mirror. i think amabs scare me and i don't know why. i attach myself to older guys in films and loosely to other people, remarrying shane in stardew over and over again. one minute i have a preference and then it drastically changes.

my friend once said that people who are lgbtqia+ must have some evolutionary default in them, which i believe heavily. i have autism and probably some other stuff undiagnosed (my autism is clinically diagnosed yall) so that checks out. i saw a survey a while back that most people who are lgbtqia+ are diagnosed professionally or self with something along the lines of adhd, autism, and other mental disorders. but that's all we are. disordered motions, grasping onto conclusion.

maybe one day i will find somebody and it will make perfect sense. maybe i won't find anybody. for now, i know that i can only try, and when i try i collapse in tears wondering why nobody likes me.

Allison- giving someone drawings and sketches, either big and detailed or a tiny stickman, they'll do it all. Would definitely draw a psychedelic pattern then write "balls" over it and hand it to someone. Also stealing a person's stuff. Won't keep it for long so they don't accidentally stress the person out, but finds it funny to see how long it takes for them to realise it's gone.

Ideal place to hang out/ have a date:

John- literally anywhere. Could be sat in the middle of a field, he doesn't care. Finds it fun to go to kids parks in the late evening and chill there. Kind of thing where you'd go to a shop, grab loads of snacks and drinks, and just walk around. Stopping at random places every so often.

Claire- nights in. Not really one for big nights out. Don't get me wrong, she'd love to go on a really fun jam-packed evening, restaurants, theatre, etc. But spending quality time with someone is enough for her. Baking, telling stories, whatever seems fun.

Andrew- movies and arcades. Loves being playfully competitive, so he's gonna have a great time in an arcade. Doesn't care how many tickets he wins, as long as he wins the most games against the other person. Also loves action movies, will buy tons of popcorn, but still manages to run out halfway through. Happens to the best of us.

Brian- coffee shops. Absolutely loves if it's a bookshop with a café, xe just likes the comfy atmosphere. Also likes hanging out in random fields, it just feels very free. He would absolutely watch the sunset with someone, so both morning and evening hanging out vibes.

Allison- museums. Those interactive museums are the best, it's much more interesting for them if it's hands on and not just reading information. But also likes to do some trouble making shit like trying to stay in the museum after it's closed. They technically don't have a curfew so might as well stay and check out what it's like all creepy dark in there.

Bisexual. When writing Claire, I tend to swap between cis (or at least going by she/her pronouns and using feminine terminology) and nonbinary and using ae/aer pronouns. The label of agender probably fits aer better, but I like the colors of the nonbinary flag better. The purple, black, and white fit aer so well, and then you have yellow for those wonderful Clairegana vibes.

Some More OC Stuff

I have SIX Obey Me OC's now this is getting entirely out of hand RIP-

So I very recently decided my Obey Me OC, Muse (first pic below), was going to have a kid with at least one of their partners.

I'm still working on all the details, but meet Aska and Silas! You can probably guess which kid belongs to who lol. Tagging @paper-trash-bag since you mentioned you liked my OC stuff! Hopefully this is just as interesting! <3

Aska (bottom left) is from Muse and Simeon, and Silas (bottom right) is from Muse and Solomon. I'm toying with the idea of giving Aska another younger brother who would look exactly like Simeon but I'm not 100% sure about it yet?

And just for context, Muse, Solomon, and Simeon all live together in the same house and are a throuple/polyamorous.

Still kind of up in the air on what eye color Silas has since Muse has all blue eyes and Solomon has SOME blue in his eyes but also a hint of brown/hazel? Idk man there's a little bit of everything in there... Unfortunately the picrew I used for Silas is kind of limited in eye colors so I couldn't find a good hazel color to see what that might look like. :(

Some other fun facts about these two:

-Simeon was the one who named Aska while Muse named Silas

-Aska looks mostly like her father but her personality is more like Muse. You can't see it in the pic but she usually wears her hair in a small fluffy little ponytail at the back of her head

-Silas looks more like Muse other than the white hair but has more of Solomon's personality. The little curls in his hair are also from Muse :')

-Aska sees Solomon as a babysitter more than a father figure (less of an annoying babysitter and more of the fun kind) but will often go to him for advice on anything that she can't confide in Muse and Simeon for

-Uriel is Aska's godfather while Claire and Thirteen are her godmother(s)

-Same for Silas, except his godfather is actually Simeon, who he does see as a second father figure

-Aska sees Luke as sort of an endearing uncle who helped raise her even though they're close in age (should mention that Luke is older/more grown up by the time this story/plot takes place)

-Silas just thinks "Luke is annoying and uptight about Celestial Realm shit" ...in his words. lol. Really he's just jealous that Luke spends more time with Aska.

-Aska and Silas aren't that far apart in age (haven't figured out specifics yet)

-Both of them are somewhat immature but Silas can save face way better than Aska can

-Silas has a TERRIBLE sense of fashion (but at least he can cook! thanks, Simeon!). Mostly this is because he desperately wants to be seen as a separate entity from his parents and wants to be his own rebellious person

-Aska is disinterested in magic and the different realms; she just wants to mix music and be a DJ or dance and sing

-Silas is dedicated to his studies and magic but hates it at the same time; he hides away his carefree side because he wants to make his parents and others proud and surpass them. But at the same time he doesn't really want that burden...

-Silas got the short end of the stick when it came to his vision because of Muse's shitty eyesight and Solomon's millennia old genes, so he has to wear glasses lol

-Aska started out more attached to Muse as a child but grew closer to Simeon the older she got while Silas was more attached to Solomon when he was younger but became very attached to Muse as he got older

-Because Muse is Agender and uses They/Them pronouns, Aska gave them the nickname "Parental Unit/Parent" in leu of "Mom"

-The only exception to this is when Aska is in peril, feels unsafe, or when something is seriously wrong; she instinctively calls Muse "Mom" and that's their way of knowing that she needs saving from a situation or person(s)

hey! this is just a short little thing I wrote in like an hour. I like the concept and needed something to smile at, so,,,

Hopefully it can make you smile too

“Alright, class, settle down. Welcome to your first day of the fourth grade!” Logan smiled and looked out at the class. “I’m Logan Astra, I’ll be your writing teacher. You can call me Mr, Miss, Mx, or just Teacher. You can even just call me Logan if that’s what makes you most comfortable.” Logan received the expected confusion at that statement. Kids never really knew what to make of him. “Are you a boy or a girl?” was a question she got almost daily. They always just replied with “whatever you want me to be.” It seemed to satisfy the young ones.

They called on a student with their hand raised. “So, do we call you she? Or he?”

“Anything you’d like, dear.” They replied. They weren’t going to get into the complexities of gender and the labels they really used. She used any pronouns and any terms anyway, the kids didn't have to know their agender identity. They just needed to know what to call him. “I have no preference whatsoever.”

“So you’re not a boy or girl? What are you, then?”

“Not everyone’s only one or the other. Some people are in between, others are something else entirely! Others, like me, don't really have any gender at all.” Logan decided to get the explanation out of the way. “You can call me whatever you wish. Boy, girl, anything else. I could not care less. Just use whatever makes you most comfortable.

“Now, I’m going to call roll. I’ll call out your last names, and I’d like you to respond by raising your hand and telling me and the rest of the class what name you’d prefer to go by. Sound good? Alright. Anderson?” Logan looked up from their list to see a kid with long blonde pigtails raised her hand.

“Claire!”

“Okay, thank you Claire, Adams?” Logan went through the list quickly, making note of all of the kids’ preferred names.

“Dolion?” Logan paused and looked up. A kid in the back slowly raised his hand.

“... Janus.” There was some snickering in the background. Logan moved on quickly, not wanting to single the kid out. She might have a talk with him later.

It was soon lunchtime, and all of the kids were sent off to the cafeteria. Except one. Janus, a short little boy with a tiny hat on. He stayed behind, of his own accord.

“Miss Astra? Can I eat lunch with you?” Janus was chewing on his lip, hopeful eyes turned up to Logan.

“Of course, dear. Might I ask what for?” Logan already knew the answer, but letting the boy tell her himself was probably best.

“Umm.. those boys from the back of the class were.. They were making fun of my name. And if I go to lunch they’ll just keep doing it there.” Janus looked toward the ground. Poor kid. “I just wanted a break.”

“I see,” Logan pulled out a chair to let Janus sit across from him at the teacher’s desk. “Would you like me to have a word with them? I can try to help, if you wish.” Janus shook his head. “No, teachers have tried before. It just got worse.” “Ah,” Logan raised an eyebrow. “So this is a repeated occurrence?” Janus nodded. “Alright, I won’t speak to them without your permission. For what it’s worth, I think your name is wonderful. Do you know the mythology behind it?”

“Kinda? I know Janus is the name of a two headed Roman god, but that’s all I got.”

“That’s correct. But Janus is way more interesting than you make him out to be. What do you know of Roman mythology?”

“They basically copied the Greeks and changed some names,” Janus laughed a bit. “Like Aphrodite is Venus, Poseidon is Neptune, Eros is Cupid, all that.”

Logan smiled, “See, that’s the beauty of Janus. He was one of the few truly Roman gods. He has no Greek counterpart. He was known as the god of many things, most of them being opposites of each other, hence the two heads facing away from each other in depictions of him. He presided over beginnings and ends, exits and entrances, war and peace, change and transitions, time, and doors, portals, and gates of all kinds. He’s been referred to as ‘the Gatekeeper’ because he’s the guardian of every door and passage, including gates. The latin word for doorway is januae, corresponding with Janus’s name. His name was always invoked when declaring war or peace, as he’s a god of time intervals, such as wartime and peacetime. His temple was an open enclosure with large gates at each end. The gates were left open during wartime and closed during peacetime. Another reason for Janus’s two-headedness is because he has one head to look into the future, and another to look to the past. I think he’s really cool.” Janus’s eyes were fixed on Logan the entire time, eager to learn about his namesake.

“So he’s actually cool? He’s got cool stuff to be the god of, a lot better than some of them. There’s a Roman goddess of cattle. Like, that’s it. There’s a Roman god of fevers. How lame is that? I’m glad mine’s cool.” Janus smiled and bit into his sandwich. Logan bit into theirs. It was a good lunch.

Luther:

Cishet but 100% an ally (guys he’s not homophobic he’s just low on brain cells)

Luther doesn’t totally understand his trans siblings’ gender identities at times but he will destroy absolutely anybody that misgenders them

When Diego came out as trans, he switched to the correct pronouns immediately with absolutely no hesitation

He has never slipped up with Diego’s pronouns

Same exact thing with Allison when she came out as trans

Probably didn’t sneak out of the house to go to pride parades with his siblings but covered them and made plans with Grace and Pogo to assure Reginald wouldn’t find out they were gone

Diego:

Diego is bisexual and a trans man

Diego clearly has a preference for women but has definitely been into guys (or been in relationships with them) before too

Diego is trans I will die on this hill

Because he was raised as a girl, he learned how to follow in dancing rather than lead

Klaus is actually the one that taught him how to lead in dancing

In return, Diego taught Klaus the opposite

(Really Klaus just wanted someone to dance with though)

When Grace was naming the children (Reginald would never), Diego asked her if he could have a boy name

She, of course, obliged and gave him one

Grace was ALWAYS. THERE. for Diego whenever he had dysphoria attacks or anything

She’s the one that comforted him through his first period and sewed him boy clothes

When Diego came out, Klaus asked if he could have all of Diego’s old clothes

(He got them—Diego was more than happy to give them away)

Whatever old clothes Diego didn’t give to Klaus he gave to Allison

Diego was absolutely terrified to start T because of his fear of needles

Grace was with him the whole time, and after freaking out at first, she finally helped him have his first shot

I actually have way too many trans Diego headcanons I want to share so I’ll just make a separate post later

Allison has a preference for men but in her long history of being a famous person has had some flings with women

Right after Diego asked for a boy’s name, Allison asked for a girl’s name

Reginald literally Didn’t Care that his kids were trans because he never referred to them by gender anyway, he just called them by their numbers

He did, however, refuse to allow them any surgeries because it would keep them from participating in missions for a while

Allison rumored everyone she could in public that she had always been a girl and Diego had always been a boy

Allison is publicly out as trans (we love to see it) and if anyone tries to deny her a job because of her identity she just rumors them out of it

Klaus:

Klaus “had to get his jaw wired shut because he ran down the stairs in Grace’s heels” Hargreeves does not give a fuck about gender roles

(Gonna use he/him pronouns for Klaus because those are the ones he goes by in the show)

As stated above, Klaus was always interested in feminine things

Reginald kept pretty clear gender distinctions in his house (see his pants for boys/skirts for girls uniforms) and Klaus HATED it

So of course he completely spit in Reggie’s face about it and wore all of Diego’s old skirts whenever he could

And like the sister bonding scene in the hair salon?? Klaus is genderfluid come on guys

Klaus is attracted to men and women

In Allison’s bedtime story to Claire, Klaus flirts with a female ghost

Diego assumes that Klaus’s Vietnam lover was a woman (it’s incredibly unlikely that Diego knows nothing about his brother’s sex life or sexuality considering how open Klaus is about everything)

Klaus mentions cute cowboy ghosts in season 2

Klaus used to have a male lover that made excellent osso buco

Five is attracted to women and agender!

This lil shit doesn’t give a single fuck what pronouns you use for him

Five has been known to commit homicide purely for others’ acts of homophobia or transphobia

Not that Reginald ever really gendered his children at all rather than just calling them by their numbers, but if he ever misgendered Diego or Allison, Five was ALL OVER HIM. IMMEDIATELY!!!

This cranky old guy is full of rage—but also support for every member of the LGBTQ+ community

Ben:

Ben is definitely a bi icon

Didn’t get very much time to explore his sexuality on Earth since he died so young

As we see in season 2, Ben can catch feelings for people from afar

The first time this happened he was kinda scared, but Klaus helped him through it

The first time he fell for a guy was even scarier

It was another guy in Klaus’s rehab and Ben suddenly found himself enamored with the guy

Klaus (even though he wasn’t feeling particularly social) spent as much time with the guy as possible so that Ben could also spend more time with him

(I’m here to provide the fluffy Ben and Klaus sibling content that season 2 did not)

Vanya:

BI ICONNNNNNN

Never really opened herself up to relationships before Leonard because she felt like she didn’t deserve them

She pinned quietly from afar, though

Klaus was the first person she ever talked to about being bi

Klaus, of course, immediately accepted her and tried to help her through it

Vanya is definitely more atttacted to women than men

She’s just a bi icon what more is there to say

Overall This is just a diverse collection of stories aimed squarely at young people. Most of the protagonists are in their mid to late teens or are trying to deal with issues from that point. I would argue that as usual, it is not diverse enough. No one is intersex, no one is ace or aroace, I don't think any of the main characters is trans. But what it does give us is indigenous and disability voices.

Rats by Marlee Jane Ward Lesbian Featuring narrator Michielle and interest Maita. It's so very Melbourne it uses our iconic places and the pace of our CBD to drive the story. It feels a bit like a slice of life for the chaotic Michelle. Honestly, it's quite an effective opening.

In Case of Emergency, Break Glass by Erin Gough Lesbian or Bisexual, Awakening Featuring narrator Amy and interest Reg. Amy is 16 and kissing her boyfriend is uninspiring to her. While catering at a fancy party she meets Reg. Amy and Reg have this perfect little space that is in almost direct opposition to everything else Amy is with in the story. It is all presented so well the awakening, the flight.

Bitter Draught by Michael Earp Gay Featuring narrator Simeon and interest Wyll, with a cameo by Wren an nb Witch. It's a simple-ish find the witch save the girl story. It feels like historical fantasy. It's a well-constructed story short story working well with trope and genre limits, expectations. But it is oh so bittersweet.

I Like Your Rotation by Jax Jacki Brown Lesbian, Disability Featuring narrator Jem and interest Drew. Both Jem and Drew are in wheelchairs, though different kinds of chairs. The story kinda focuses a bit on the otherness and exclusion that can appear even in queer safe spaces. That idea of protection. It ends in a perfect place of both pain and optimism.

Sweet by Claire G Coleman Non Binary Featuring narrator Roxy and their mad bunch of friends. This is set in a dystopia where gender is illegal, of note is race, Roxy and all her friends are indigenous. Sweet as a story is brilliant playing well on role reversal and fear. The characters are captivating, particularly Sweet herself and Roxy. You want to see them all thrive. Even in such a short story, there are indications of developed lore, Coleman has clearly thought it out well.

Light Bulb by Nevo Zisin Non Binary or Agender Featuring a nameless narrator. Light Bulb in one phrase... positively weird. It uses a lot of symbolism and metaphor. This is the kinda one that you just has to be read. But it is good.

Waiting by Jen Wilde Bisexuality, Lesbian, (lowkey Autism) Featuring narrator Audrey and interest Josie. Audrey is autistic and bi, a fangirl, from what I know iconic Jen Wilde. This has one of my fave quips about fandom vs sport. "Can I ask you something?" [...] "What's the difference between us being cosplay, and you going to the footy in your team's jersey?" [...] "I'm genuinely curious about this," she continues. "We're here as fans, some of us cosplay. And you're going to the football as a fan, in your own kind of cosplay" - Josie. I have removed the idiot boys' responses because they are less than useful. This one is coming of age brilliance that really makes me want to read Queens of Geek. It's relatable to an adult that community vibe that cons present like nothing else. Yes, like those who are queer we are outsiders nearly everywhere else but get us together and it is like home. A home made up of a loud, eclectic family.

Laura Nyro at the Wedding by Christos Tsiolkas Gay Featuring narrator Jack and boyfriend Paul. I'm going to be honest this is the story that stayed with me. This is the longest of the stories at 30 pages, Jack and Paul are also the oldest protagonists. Set in Victoria with at least one migrant protagonist, Serbian Paul. I'm going to put the rest under spoiler because this goes heavy fast.The focus of this is the queerness as in the otherness of having a weight over you, something not about you. It's the power of forgiveness, the impact of the other on family units. I know it is a short story but the story does just end.

Each City by Ellen van Neerven Queer Featuring an unnamed narrator and interest Talvan. Set in a slightly dystopian future both main characters are indigenous. The protagonist is running for her safety after gaining government attention as an activist. It's an odd story but I couldn't be more white if I tried, this isn't my culture.

An Arab Werewolf in Liverpool by Omar Sakr Gay Featuring narrator Wafat and interest Noah. Unsurprisingly this is supernatural fiction but also adds the cultural other of Islam. It's fun and will likely speak to people of faith. Not just Islam but other faiths as well. I do like it for its variation, it's nice to have the supernatural element covered.

Stormlines by Alison Evans Non Binary Featuring narrator Marling and interest New. These two use ve and they pronouns respectively. This is not a romance, it is a story of home. It's effective storytelling if slightly predictable. Alison pushes a neutral pronoun agenda which is always a welcome approach. It gives people permission, options, freedom, license.

Questions to Ask Straight Relatives by Benjamin Law Gay/Queer Unlike the other stories in the collection, this isn't a fictional story. It's a mix of a personal story and advice for people of any identity. "Coming out as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex or queer can be a massive relief, but it also usually marks the start of having to answer questions from straight people for the rest of your life."... for the rest of your life. now isn't that the scariest part of this coming out thing. Honestly, this section contains just plain brilliant advice for queer people of identity at any point in their life. I can see why Michael Earp positioned it last in the book.
