resident evil — vape shop au
this overtakes restaurant au for the dumbest thing i've ever written. i work in a vape shop, and this has been a month-long conversation between the coworkers on what each resident evil character would smoke.
18+ only, because smoke stuff, don't do it kids. contains: carlos, leon, chris. please let me know if you want other characters, i am at your humble service.
as customers:
carlos: this man isn't much of a vaper, but he smokes weeds like nobody's business. every two weeks he comes in looking for a new bong (usually small, and needs to have some sort of cool decoration on it. if it has something pink, the man is handing over his credit card) because he keeps breaking his. either he drops them or one of his pets knocks it over. he also never goes through the process of cleaning them, which inevitably leaves jill the burden of having to buy bong cleaner for him in hopes that one day he will use it. it will collect dust with the rest of the bottles somewhere in his room, laying dormant on a shelf.
the employees are all horrendously down bad for him, mostly because he always comes right after the gym in muscle shirts and a tight pair of shorts. the whole work groupchat is filled with carlos smiled at me today, he wants me so bad.
not that it's necessarily their fault, he's annoyingly chivalrous and has a litany of pickup lines at the ready. you need a ladder to reach something? carlos is behind you and ready to grab it at a moments notice.
leon:
a firm man of routine-- buys the same flavour, same brand, every time without fail. peach blue razz, low puff count because he likes a small device. no, he does not want to try something new. you're wasting your time offering it to him. by the time a couple weeks roll around, you know exactly what to grab the moment he swings open the door.
he's embarrassed he's gotten into this whole thing honestly. hit luis' once after a stressful shift, and it was hook line and sinker. he calls them his shame vapes, and hides it in his sleeve so no one he works with will ever know.
god forbid if an employee ever flirts with him. he tried once to say something flirty back and got so embarrassed he didn't show up for two weeks, nicotine addiction be damned. if you can convince him into trying something new, he's not gonna tell you if he doesn't like it. he'll nod and walk out with his tail between his legs.
and honestly? he just kinda looks like a cop. younger people know to pull out their id when he's browsing, assuming he's undercover. ask him how his day is? he will respond "it's going." every single time.
chris:
tobacco flavoured vapes only. "what tastes most like a cigarette" type motherfucker. he'll try whatever cotton candy vape claire has, claims he hates it, and then take multiple puffs anyways. he really only got into it because claire claimed it was better for him than smoking a pack every day. he buys a vape and then proceeds to smoke a cigarette outside the store anyway.
his routine entirely depends on how stressed out he is, and this shop is both his nicotine hookup and his social outing for the week. it takes him a while to open up beyond the typical customer interaction, but once you get him out of his shell, there's no putting him back in it. bring up sports or something else he's interested in, and he's giving you a long lecture.
hitting on him will entirely depend on his mood and your approach. going in strong by complimenting his arms will only get a half-sheepish response, but gently nudging him into talking about himself is what will get you the full chris redfield experience. sometimes he forgets that these people live relatively normal lives, and will pull some batshit insane lore with the casualty of someone who has forgotten that most people have never even held a gun.

Be Realistic ( Leon x reader)
Short blurb because I'm in a mood - Yes based off of that Britney broski audio lmao Warnings: low self esteem reader, body issues ALSO I LOVE ASHLEY GUYS SO DW DW SHES MY BBG SHE JUST SEEMED APPROPRIATE TO USE IN THIS SCENARIO LMAO
✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦
Rebecca and you sat at the edge of the backyard, both of you sprawled out on the lawn chairs. Claire had thrown a summer pool party, deciding it'd be a smart idea to invite people from work. Ada and Claire were chatting among themselves, sipping away at their colorful drinks, Luis urging everyone to put on sunscreen, and Carlos, Jill, and Chris having a competition to see who could do the best cannonball. Among the partygoers was Ashley Graham, the owner of the house in which Claire was throwing the party.
"She's so gorgeous," Rebecca comments, her sunglasses protecting her brown doe eyes.
"I know." You added, the two of you ogling at Ashley's beauty. She wore a cute brown-colored two-piece, with a metal ring in the front that held the top together, which accentuated her complexion and made her appear like a Victoria's Secret model.
"Hey guys, have any of you seen Leon?" Ashley called out, holding the deflated pink dolphin in her hands.
His name made your stomach twist, and you swear you could've felt your heart pang. The way his name rolled off her tongue was so natural, almost melodic.
"Right here." Leon came out from behind the glass sliding doors. He was the only one still in his normal clothes, deciding he was too cool or some shit for the pool party.
The man walked his way along the perimeter of the pool to Ashley. His muscles showing as he carried the air pump to the girl.
"Dumbass, why did you bring it all the way out here?" Chris commented.
"Easy access." Came Leon's response.
"Thanks, Leon!" Ashley beamed, her pouty pink lips curling into a smile that even made your heart flutter. Leon stood close to her, handing his hand out for her to give him the floaty. She complied, and handed it over, their exchange making your eyes lose their gleam.
"My hero." Ashley was excited, her floaty finally being of use.
Rebecca noticed you from the corner of her eyes. She knew about your little huge crush on Leon. The girl watched as your face crept with sadness- dare she say- disappointment.
"Kind of funny how he's still in his normal clothes." She tries to distract you. "Typical Leon."
You looked at her and smiled, "I know. I was hoping to see him shirtless." The two of you giggled, letting out cackles, Ada and Claire looking your way to see what the commotion was about.
"Why don't you go ask him to take it off?" She teased, turning her body to look at you.
"Hmm, maybe." You said boldly, even though you knew you'd rather fall in the pool and drown than do that.
"Bet. You won't." She smirked, challenging you.
"Pftt I totally would." You played yourself up.
"Then go." Rebecca eyes you.
After being riled up by Rebecca, a burst of confidence shot threw you. It couldn't be that hard right? You and Leon bantered and flirted on missions before, so what difference would this make? Plus it was totally appropriate for you to tell him off about his weird pool attire or rather lack of it.
"Watch me Chambers." You told your best friend as you got up from the lawn chair. You were wearing a (top of your choice) that you brought a size too small to make your figure pop. The shorts that you wore were Rebbeca's basketball shorts that she had let you borrow last minute after you changed your mind about wearing a one-piece.
Feeling confident in your tight outfit you began to strut toward Leon and Ashley, the sun's beams hitting the floor making the cement beneath your feet warm. As you approached you caught a glimpse of yourself in the glass sliding doors. Immediately your confidence shrank.
How could you have been so delusional to wear this out? It looked nothing like the way you pictured it in your head. Your model like posture returned to that of a hunchback as you shamefully scurried past Leon and Ashley, walking along the whole edge of the pool, stopping by the coolers to grab two waters, and heading back to a frowning Rebecca.
Leon and Ashley to focused on judging Chris and Carlos' Cannonballs to notice you.
"What happened?" She ask as she noticed the shift in your demeanor.
"Nothing." You sighed handing her a water.
"(Y/n) we already have water." She pushes her sunglasses up to her head as she stares at you. You take a seat on the same lawn chair.
You whined. "Why didn't you tell me I looked like shit?" It was only loud enough for her to hear.
"What you don't though.." She reassures you as she places a hand on your back. "(Y/n) you look hot!"
You didn't believe it. Surely she was only saying this because as your best friend she was obligated to. Your mind flashed back to the image of you in the glass doors. Your hair was flat yet awfully frizzy at the same time, you stood like a toddler who barely knew how to walk, and your legs looked like they were overflowing in Rebecca's tiny shorts. To make things worse you were sure the chlorine from your previous dip had made your skin look all dry.
You looked around for the oversized shirt you came here in. When you found it you shielded your body from the eyes of the partygoers.
"(Y/n).." Rebecca looked concerned.
"I don't know why I even tried talking to him. I probably look like an idiot." You leaned on Rebecca's shoulder as you two blankly watched the Beefy Brazillian splash into the pool.
"Because you like him. And I'm pretty sure he likes you too." She giggled.
"No- he likes Ashley." You said defeated, your emotions coming out now that you'd made yourself vulnerable. You saw the way those two looked at each other. They had something you wish you had with Leon.
"I don't think so." She wraps her arm around your waist. Smirking when she notices Leon glance over at you two.
"I think I'm just gonna accept my Leon-less life." You said leaning into your friend for comfort. Your eyes occasionally glancing over at an out of place Leon as he shouts at Chris.
"What? You're just not gonna try?"
You sighed. "There's really no point Becca."
She scoffed, "(Y/n)- you're totally out of his league. You can get him if you wanted to."
"Becca!" You groaned, your inner teen always came out when hanging out with her. "I can't. Have you seen the way she looks? She can get him!" You laughed, deciding to find the humor in your failed attempts at love.
"Oh (Y/n) you can too!" Her short hair bounced as she shaked you.
You turned around your hand practically digging into 's shoulder as you stared at her dead in the eye. "Be realistic. Be so fucking for real." You shook her back, your voice that of a goblins.
The two of you laughed as you spewed out nonsensical noises.
The conversation then shifted to celebrity crushes, "You think I have a chance with Josh Hutcherson?" Rebecca lays down on the lawn chair.
"Hundred percent yes." You replied, "What about me and Nick cage?"
"I see that." Rebecca smirks.
"Wait. What about me and Da-" Before you could finish your sentence Leon's shadow loomed over you, causing both you and Rebecca to jump.
"What about you and who?" He asked as he took a seat on the lawn chair you were previously on.
Your heart fell to your ass. "Oh my god you scared me." You and Rebecca giggled.
"You're not going in the pool?" Leon asked, leaning back in the chair.
"You know we were about to ask you the same thing. What's up with the clothes Kennedy?" Rebecca raised an eyebrow, she then nudged your shoulder.
"Yeah, lose the shirt, Leon." You said on cue. A fire growing in your stomach.
"I will if you do." He hooked his hands under his grey shirt as he began to pull it off.
Scratch that. The fire in your stomach was now a full-on Volcano.

The Wedding of the Decade (Carlos's version)
Pairing: Carlos Oliveira x GN!Reader (main), Chris Redfield x Jill Valentine (background)
Summary: It is the wedding of the decade, and the tall man with dark, messy hair invites you to dance.
Warnings: FLUFF!, first meeting in a wedding, implied references to reader having a past crush on chris and carlos having a crush on jill, reader can't dance, shy!reader when the flirting starts, alcohol consumption, image taken from google
Author's Notes: hello! as a huge valenfield fan, i have decided to write a fic with them and WHAT BETTER THAN FINALLY MARRYING THOSE TWO? i plan on doing a leon's version for the same night! enjoy your reading!
my carlos's masterlist
You weren't surprised to get an invitation to Chris and Jill's wedding, or what some would call the wedding of the decade. You were part of Chris's team for a few missions in the past, enough to become his friend. Enough to know about his love for Jill Valentine, of how highly he spoke of her.
That didn't stop you from inviting him out, which Chris politely refused. Not much of a surprise, but one could still try, right?
You are pleased when you arrive at the small, intimate venue in a garden on the wedding day. Thankfully, it is not too warm or humid, and the dress code is casual.
As the rest of the guests start sitting, you are blessed with the vision of Chris wearing a suit. He looks nervous and blushy, his big smile showing how content he is. Claire fixes his tie numerous times, probably trying to calm them both down, and you can't help but smile at the vision.
The wedding ceremony is perfect, and there are many teary eyes among guests when Jill enters with her dad. They had decided on a civil ceremony, more informal. As they read their vows, you are happy that Jill and Chris were able to find love between fighting zombies and bioterrorism. There is really no one more deserving than both of them.
And then, the party.
You are surprised to see many colleagues dancing drunkenly on the dance floor, which is not part of your skill. You would fight an army of B.O.W's before setting foot on the dance floor. After congratulating Chris and Jill, you decide to hang around the bar. You aren't used to those social situations, so just taking a sip from your drink here and there is your best and safest choice.
"Doesn't like dancing?"
You are surprised by the sudden masculine voice near your right side. You had seen his face on the Racoon City files incident: Carlos Oliveira, who helped Jill during the outbreak. You recognize the black hair, but he looks completely different today. Carlos is wearing a suit, which falls well on his muscles, and also looks slightly uneasy.
"I am not going to wake up tomorrow to tons of videos of me dancing, thank you very much," You answer.
"Fair enough. Carlos."
You shake his hand, telling him your first name. The bartender places your drink in front of you, and you thank them, taking a sip.
"So, who do you know? Groom or bride?"
"Both, but I know Chris longer. What about you?" You ask, even though you know the answer.
"Jill."
You nod, picking up the tone Carlos says her name. There is some affection in there. You sip in your drink again, analyzing Carlos in the corner of your eyes. You know how easy it is to develop a crush on someone so amazing as Jill. You decide to test him a little out of curiosity.
"Ah, don't worry about it. I can tell you Chris would be the last man on this Earth to hurt her. He is head over heels for her. They took too long to marry if you ask anyone who knows them."
"Oh? I know Jill can take care of herself." Carlos takes his drink to his lips before continuing, his voice deep in thought, "I guess it is nice to see someone finding happiness in the middle of this mess, right?"
"Right."
You two fall into a silence that is strangely comfortable. You can see Chris and Jill in the middle of the dance floor, holding each other together, and you sigh, looking down at your drink.
"Would you like to dance?" Carlos suddenly asks, making you look at him, shocked. Then you look at the dance floor.
"I don't know how to dance."
"I don't either. Heck, I wouldn't call half of what those people are doing dancing," Carlos chuckles, shaking his head at the dance floor. He is right. Besides the married couple, everyone is dancing whatever they want. "No one will care about two more weirdos in there. Besides, we all deserve to have a little fun, right?"
You ponder for an instant. You know you will look ridiculous as everyone else, but fuck it. Carlos was right. Everyone deserves a little fun. You turn your drink into your throat to gather some courage before placing it on the counter and nodding. Carlos opens a charming smile, offering his arm, and you quickly accept, ignoring the flustering feelings in your chest.
Carlos is patient as you figure out what to do with your legs and arms. The music playing now is at least a high tempo, so you can do whatever you want and move with the beat. You still feel ridiculous, rolling your eyes as Carlos follows your lead, his eye focused on your moves.
"I have no idea what I am doing," You say, making him laugh. You give a quick look around you, but no one seems to care, which relaxes you a little more.
Of course, the song changes to a slower ballad. Clearly meant for couples. You roll your eyes, thinking it was good while it lasted, but Carlos stops you with his hand in the air before you can leave.
"If I may?"
You nod, and he grabs your hip, holding your hand. Not interlocking your fingers or anything more daring, just holding, and you let him. Your hand goes instinctively to his shoulder. Carlos keeps a safe distance, smiling as you let him lead you. It is not a bad feeling, just a strange one. You look anywhere except at his eyes, ignoring how stupid your heart seems to be beating now.
"Still feeling silly?" His voice sounds closer, though Carlos keeps a safe distance from your body. You feel so stiff as Carlos feels more natural. You are starting to wonder if he didn't lie to you before about being a terrible dancer.
"A little. I am like a dead body going into rigor mortis," You answer, and Carlos chuckles.
"Just relax. Remember, don't care about the others. Let me take control, okay?"
You ignore (again) the hot feeling that passes through your body, with Carlos whispering so softly like that. You wonder if Carlos notices how he is affecting you; you wonder if he knows he sounds like he is flirting with you. The smile on Carlos's face tells you that, yes, Carlos Oliveira might be flirting with you.
Instead of making you nervous, however, it relaxes you. Ignoring the feeling of being watched, of looking silly, you let Carlos guide you, his hand strongly holding onto your hip. When the song ends too soon, Carlos lets you go.
"You are a terrific dancer." Carlos declares, and you snort despite being overjoyed at how Carlos complimented you.
"I think you meant terrible." You joke nervously while Carlos shakes his head.
"No, I meant terrific."
"Yeah, well, all thanks to my partner." If dancing had been hard, flirting is definitely on another level. The last time you remotely flirted was with Chris, to which you failed miserably.
"Your partner would be very pleased if you continue to dance with him," Carlos's voice sounds so smooth. Oh, Carlos is definitely flirting now. You move your weight from one foot to another, the consciousness of being watched hitting you back again. Not sure of what to do.
"I am not very good at this," You mumble, hoping Carlos understands the meaning. Carlos nods, touching your arm to bring your attention back to him.
"Just follow my lead."

What are your thoughts on what Ada and Carlos’ dynamic would be like? I’m writing a fic with them and I’m curious your opinions
sorry for the lateness. i was busy
i'm gonna suck for my answer because there's no true answer :( but here we go.
her dynamic with carlos will be similar to leon's because both men are kind of the same. not super, but very, very, very, very, lowkey.
a) both men would save her
b) both would feel betrayed for ada's double-sided nature
the slight difference is flirting.
remake leon doesn't flirt with ada a lot and og leon is just horny. (don't ask me about og carlos, i haven't played the game). remake carlos would be respectful in aspects about ada. some fans think carlos remake is gross for his flirting for jill, but i disagree. remake carlos has limits and won't be just weird.
ada remake flirts a bit. not a lot but a bit.
that's the difference between them.
can you make their flirting into sexual tension? sure, but their natural moments would be small moments of flirting despite being friends or rivals.
carlos ->
considering that carlos called jill super cop, he would also have a nickname for ada. he doesn't sound creative, so maybe 'woman in red'. ada would call carlos by his name and only moments of flirting she would call him something like, 'big boy'
the situation of umbrella is the most interesting part of their unexplored dynamic, but it falls to nothing. both technically worked there, and it's unfortunate that we don't know where carlos is. his reaction discovering that umbrella was the bad guy would make me believe that he would've gone the path as joining the bsaa or even joining leon by being "asked" to join.
that depends on how you see that detail
however, we can have fun with ada's secretive nature, carlos would trust her like he trusts jill. if ada does a good thing for him, it grows points for him. if ada full on betrays carlos (which ada hasn't done since re2 remake and re4 og), carlos would actually try to stop ada, but if he has no true conclusion on what she will do. he will let her go like leon does to her.
ada ->
ada with carlos would be a normal day for her. another big guy, she would brush off his flirting, but every once in a while, make him smile with a flirt back.
neither would think it's romantic unless it's like a quiet moment.
ada would appreciate carlos re3 more than leon re2 because carlos is a bit more capable and wouldn't force himself into her life.
their bond would touch around the idea of "i worked for someone bad." they won't really pass the "i acknowledge you" unless you push the characters together with writing. considering ada's character, make her hack carlos or follow him because she needs something of him. make the bond grow with moments and make ada feel guilt.
hope it helps <3

Hi. As someone who really likes Ashley (and Eagleone) I obviously want her back. But having read your asks a few days back I kinda understand how that probably won't happen, having to keep a small cast so the focus stays on actually important characters (plus sadly is nowhere near as important or memorable as other one-off characters like Sheva, Billy or Carlos and even they don't have much prospect of returning). But still I let my delulu self have fun for a bit. And something stood out, and it's the conversation on the lift, right after the wrecking ball fight.
Ashley, for the first and only time in her existence, talked about her future after the game. And it is strange when a character discusses their future, because we as the audience will take that as foreshadowing of something about said charcter ultimately becoming true. But Ashley's not coming back; the devs are not gonna write her back into the games, right? So why, why choose that as the topic of their conversation? They really could've chosen something more casual, maybe keep their dialog as harmless and casual flirting that leaves no consequences to the future like they did in other sections of the game. But it had to be that. Why?
In 2021, ID gave Ashley a picture cameo after forgetting about her for 15+ years, with a more matured and beautiful (and less pixelated) image. 2 years later in 2023, RE4R came out with a new and improved version of Ashley, making her infinitely more likeable, and thus making people sadder that this is the only game they are gonna see her in. But in that same remake, she teased about becoming a US agent with Leon, fighting evil and whatnot. So is it ever possible that in the 2 years after RE4R we will hear from her again?
Is Ashley's reintroduction timeline just a coincidence? Yeah probably. But taking into account the nature of the conversation on the lift and this coincidence, it really really felt like I'm connecting dots. Will she come back? Not as a main charcater or anything, maybe just with Hunnigan-level of importance, but will she come back?
At the end of the day, I must admit I looked a bit too much into this. I just want to see her again, and I'm overthinking to make that seem more plausible. But I also really really want to hear your thoughts on this, on the foreshadowy conversation and timeline, on how Capcom went out of their way to make her lovable to the point of taking some of Ada's spotlight away. Can this be a preparation for an actual future role in the franchise, albeit small and insignificant?
And if you've seen that very AI looking RE 9 cover, who is that woman at Leon's side anyway. Her hair is light colored and her physique looked too small to be Jill's. And that hairstyle...ok I'll stop; that cover meant nothing and she's probably a new character. I just see Ashley everywhere now lol.
I'm gonna answer this backwards.
I'm assuming the AI lady is Jill just because of the leaks. But like. It's AI. So don't read too far into it.
Now, I'll admit that I always did find it weird that Ashley talking about becoming an agent is the single only unskippable "cutscene" dialogue in the entire game. You can even skip Leon and Luis's conversation on the elevator up to his death. But you cannot skip the one between Leon and Ashley on that lift after the wrecking ball.
But here's the thing.
One of the most important things that that German leaker, Andy, talked about was how RE games are made.
I talked about this a little already, but RE directors and producers are given free rein to write any story they want for the games, and they are in no way obligated to pick up where another team or game left off. He used Steve as an example -- no one was interested in bringing him back as a tyrant, so no one ever did.
But it wasn't just Steve. He also specifically mentioned that we will never see Sheva or Helena again -- because nobody in executive roles on the team cares about them. No one's going to go out of their way to bring them back. And they don't have to. No one's going to ever mandate it. That's not how these games work.
So the same kind of principle applies to Ashley. She'll only come back if someone wants her back. In this case, the likeliest candidates would be Hirabayashi or Kadoi, who both seemed particularly invested in her character for RE4make.
But, to our knowledge right now, both Hirabayashi and Kadoi are working on CVXR.
And RE9 started production before RE4make did. So there's no way she was planned for RE9. That wouldn't make any sense.
So this brings me back to my original point. She's not coming back in RE9. And if she's not coming back in RE9, she's not coming back. What would be the point of bringing back a character over 20 years later? Right at the end of the story, even?
They're not going to retroactively fit her into any remakes, either. Because she doesn't belong in them.
She's not coming back. She's just not.

Have me and my flatmates been up all night coming up with a non Raccoon City Incident/non-evil Wesker AU which is just an excuse to have funny slice of life S.T.A.R.S shenanigans (also featuring Leon, Carlos and Claire)? Yes.... yes we have.
Jill continuously being propositioned for her lockpick skills so that Chris/Leon/Claire etc. Can fuck with people (mostly Wesker).
Wesker and Rebecca are coffee buddies ie. They're the first 2 in the office each morning and have morning coffee together in silence.
Leon and Rebecca are the office gossips because Rebecca's seat gives her clear view of everyone else's business.
Chris CAN solve all the puzzles in the Police Station but he likes annoying Wesker by making him come pick him up at the main lobby cause he "forgot" the answers to the puzzles again.
Leon joining STARS down the line and sitting next to Barry and behind Chris and throwing stuff at the back of Chris' head.
Carlos joining STARS and flirting with Jill on the job and getting scolded by Wesker.
Barry and Carlos getting Chris and Wesker matching Gay Icon Mugs cause they think it's hilarious. Chris and Wesker don't but they do proceed to only use those mugs from now on.
Carlos' brings a Vinyl player to the office and slowly the rest of the crew accumulate an impressive Vinyl collection.
Wesker brings in an IKEA bookcase, makes Chris and Leon build it together as a bonding exercise and then tells the group of that bookcase isn't full by the end of the week with a decent variety of literature he's docking their pay.
Rebecca getting real tired of trying to teach the team proper health and safety measures when the team includes Jill, Chris, Wesker and Leon 4 walking occupational hazards.
Jill takes Chris to gay bars every Saturday, they may or may not have ran into Wesker there once but they all agreed for their own mental health it was best to never speak of it again.
Leon gave Claire a parking ticket on his first day as a rookie cop and he hasn't been able to get rid of her since but he's not complaining cause he likes her, although Chris did use it as an excuse to bully the rookie.
Claire will just turn up at STARS office and just make her self at home. For this reason Chris is the only one in the team Wesker doesn't call by his last name because if Claire is there, they get confused. Leon doesn't even get his last name, he is and will always be "Rookie" (even after Carlos joins after him).
Barry, Chris and Carlos go to concerts together.
Chris and Wesker compete at the shooting range while the rest of the team watch and place bets. Leon and Jill are tied for most correct predictions. Chris is 1 ahead of Wesker currently.
Jill brings her dog to work. It likes to sleep under her desk, drool on Chris' shoes and sneak into Wesker's office for treats.
We definitely discussed more but it is now 6am and I need to sleep so enjoy these sleep deprived ramblings.

Dirty Bird Part 1
Summary: Kit Rogers has had a crush on her best friend Carlos for years. They always flirt, Carlos more so than Kit, but it’s just fun and games with no serious intention. At least until Carlos finds Kit’s phone unlocked and open to a very specific romance book. Then all bets are off and Carlos will win this game of who will be the first to break and make a move. The others are collateral damage and wish Carlos and Kit would just bang already.
A/N: A slight AU set in present day, but instead of hunting B.O.W.s, the gang are an elite security team that handles everything from celebrities to offering an extra hand to politicians to even helping people that need the protection for court cases. Chris, Leon, Claire, Jill, Carlos, Kit, etc. all work for the company. Also I have Carlos from Brazil in this so his native language will be Portuguese.

“Hey, Kit-Kat, when’s our date?” Carlos asked, coming over to sit on the front of my desk.
“Jesus,” I hissed, jumping at his voice. “I’m going to put a collar with a bell on you.” For once he wasn’t in tactical gear and sounding like a whole troop of people marching about. I actually didn't hear him sneak up on me in his civilian boots.
“Ooo, kinky,” he chuckled as he began to pick up and pilfer through the things around my desk like he always did, careful to put them back where he got them as well.
“Uh huh, can I help you?” I asked with a sigh, looking up at him while he just gave me his usual goofy smile.
While Carlos worked on the ground in the security company we were both employed at as the actual physical security, I worked with the tech side of things. Anything computer or tech based work went through me. There was a small team under me, so it wasn’t my job to do everything. Not that I actually gave more work to the team when I was overwhelmed. I liked being busy, it made the day go by faster, but it also made it easier for Carlos to sneak up on me when he wasn’t actively doing something.
“I already asked you. When’s our date?” Carlos asked as he stood up from my desk.
“We don’t go on dates, Carlos,” I said with a snort. “Now, if you want to have a few drinks and look at girls, I’m game for that.”
“You always say that. I mean an actual date. Like you and me, a little Brazilian place in town, some camarão no leite de coco, a couple of beers, come on,” he said.
“I thought you didn’t like shrimp,” I said, looking back to my computer as I pulled up an email that came in.
“Not all the time, I like them in Brazilian dishes,” he said, moving around to perch his chin on my head. “What’s Chris yelling at you about now?”
“I swear to god, Carlos,” I huffed. “You can’t be reading my emails, with or without me, you know this.”
“Yet, I still do it,” he chuckled, his body pressed against my sitting form much like a dog wanting attention. Carlos was kind of like a local stray that loved everyone so easily. No one tried to make him leave, instead giving in to his small wants at first then suddenly he was just there all the time and everyone accepted it. That was how we met.
A few years after Chris Redfield started the S.T.A.R.S.( Security, Tactile, Assistance, Reconnaissance, Service) he had found me in a basement working for random jobs that happened to involve his company and clients. I was hacking his systems and stealing his data. The fact that he didn’t have me arrested or try to kill me was surprising. What surprised me more was that he offered me a job with quality pay and equipment. Assuring me the health, dental, and vision insurances were top tier was a good selling point for me as well.
I was so used to working on my own and over a screen or phone line, interacting with others was weird at first. Especially when meeting Carlos. He took one look at me, asked my name, and from then on called me ‘Kit-Kat’ and treated me like I was a lost puppy. There were random hugs from nowhere that he insisted on, saying that it was for my health as I hid most of the time in my office. Then I was called into the field and Carlos was my partner for my first mission. I had no experience with actually protecting people or acting as security. Even though I was only there to keep an eye on the computer of the client who was receiving death threats from an unknown source.
It wasn’t necessarily special in general, but the client was testifying against their ex who was a big name in the drug trade. The job for me was simple, screen everything and follow the bread crumb trail to the person behind everything. Well, I had found them and it wasn’t the ex. It was from a ‘nice guy’ friend of the client who wanted to be more than friends for so long and so badly it had become an obsession. He’d gone so far as to try and set up an attempted murder so he could rescue the client himself.
The plan went horribly wrong and instead of the client getting attacked, it was me. If it hadn’t been for Carlos coming in to save the day, I would not have been there at my desk for him to bother as I tried to keep up with company policy on privacy.
“Is there any other reason that you’re here? You know, other than to use me for a perch and read my work?” I asked, reaching back to dig my fingers into his side. Carlos jumped back with a grunt as he slapped at my hand.
“I already told you, I wanna take you out on a date,” Carlos said, going back to his usual spot on the side of my desk.
“And I already told you, we’re not going to date,” I said, shaking my head. Sure the guy was drop dead gorgeous and smooth with his words, but he was also like that with everyone. He always asked everyone out for a date, even Chris when the guy was stressed and needed a laugh. No one was off limits to Carlos’ charm. As much as I would love to be in a relationship with him, I doubted he’d be able to really commit. Nothing against him, but I had some. . . Needs. Carlos probably was into some tame stuff sexually, like nothing more than a blindfold for a few minutes.
I on the other hand. . . I needed a firm hand and I didn’t want sweet Carlos to think that I was a freak in a bad way. The last time I was in a relationship and tried to go that route, my girlfriend told me I was weird and needed therapy. That was nearly 3 years ago and since then I’d only had one sexual partner and he lasted a month nearly 2 years ago. I did have a dom that was my girlfriend for a few years, but then her job took them out of town for good and I didn’t want to move. It was an amicable split, but she’d left me to another dom who was. . . He wasn’t the best. Nothing abusive, just didn’t read me very well. That was only a few months before I left the scene all together and went ‘vanilla.’
I didn’t want to mess things up with Carlos. He was one of my best friends and I didn’t want things to get weird and I ended up losing him because I wasn’t fulfilled sexually. There was no doubt in my mind that he’d get me off, but I would slip into my head too easily and the relationship would suffer from that. It had taken me some time, but I figured out how I worked and what I needed from someone in a relationship. Some people needed more and some people needed less, I just happened to need more. It wasn’t one-sided though, I was willing to give the other person what they needed as well, but I always felt like I was asking too much.
Carlos was a giver for sure and I didn’t want to take too much if he didn’t have it to give. It wasn’t fair to either of us, so I held back and kept up my walls to keep us as friends. At least as friends I was never alone and we could rely on each other. It was almost like being married without romance.
“So, what are you doing Friday night then?” Carlos asked, beginning his pilfering of my desk again.
“I’m working late. Trying to get things set up for your mission come Sunday,” I said, glancing at him before taking a crystal pyramid from him as he started to poke me with the tip. “It’s a short one, but I’d rather have all the bases covered so you’re not left in a lurch in case something happens.”
“So, if I brought take out to keep you company with a few beers then that would be acceptable?” He asked.
“I suppose so, but I can’t take too many breaks,” I said, giving him a look. “How about some Indian food? I’ll order ahead and you can pick up.”
“Sounds like a plan, Kit-Kat,” he said, clicking his tongue with a wink as he stood up. “Just let me know the time.”
“Will do,” I said, giving him a salute. “Now get out of here and let me work before Chris sends an email about ‘professionalism’ and we have to have a company wide meeting about workplace ethics.”
“Those are the best meetings though,” Carlos chuckled with a wave. “See you later.”
“See ya,” I said, smiling as I shook my head at him.
Friday came quicker than I thought it would. There was suddenly more work to be done than before, a second mission being planned, which meant I was probably not going home. Carlos would at least be some sort of company at least.
Needing a break from looking at my computer screen, I pulled out my phone to read the latest erotic fiction I had found by accident. Most of the time it was boring to me, women fixing men or men falling in love so easily. There was no fun antics or shenanigans, not to mention the sex scenes were subpar.
The one I found put those to shame and made ‘Fifty Shades of Gray’ look like a teenage fanfic. It had interesting characters, mystery, intrigue, and filthy, nasty sex that I longed for.
It even had pictures.
I was a few paragraphs into a new chapter where the main character was being overwhelmed, so the love interest took her to his own private dungeon to use sensory deprivation as he tied her up with rope.
Carefully, muttering words of affirmation and comfort, Carl pushed the large, red ball gag into Katrina’s mouth. He hummed softly as she slowly relaxed as each piece of bondage was added. He slid a blindfold over her eyes before he took lengths of red rope and bound her arms behind her, braiding the rope up her arms and around her chest. Her nipples were hard, excited at the attention her whole body was receiving.
Carl made sure to bind them tightly too. Katrina’s breasts were not large, but after the rope was wound around them, they were large and lifted. Just how Carl liked them as it made it easier to tease and torture. More rope was wound around Katrina, tying her calves to her thighs as well as trailing from her chest down like a spider web, over her hips and sex to sit directly on her cl-
“What’re you reading?”
“Nothing!” I screamed, shoving my phone under folders where Carlos could see it. I didn’t hear him come in, again. “Can you stop sneaking up on me?”
“Are you watching porn? Cause if so, let me watch too,” Carlos chuckled as he set the food down on my desk.
“It’s not porn, just a book I’m reading. I was at a good part,” I said, putting my phone in my drawer.
“I can tell. I knocked and said your name, but you didn’t even look up. What’s it called? Maybe I’ll have a read,” he said, getting paper plates from the to go bags for us.
“I don’t remember. I’ll look it up later for you,” I said, relaxing a bit. He would never find out what book it was if I could help it.
“Okay, cool,” he said. “How’s work coming?”
“Well, I’m going to be here all night if Chris doesn’t stop scheduling missions last minute,” I said with a sigh. “I was hoping I’d get out by midnight, but that’s not happening.”
“Isn’t there anyone else who can help with that?” Carlos asked as he divided up the food.
“Yeah, but I like to do it myself and not have to double check work constantly. I already check my own, if someone else does it then I’ll have to double check them as well and it’s just easier to do it myself,” I said, seeing that I was able to get a rendering started. It would take half an hour so the small break and dinner wouldn’t put me behind.
“You know that Chris had a team put together for you, so you didn’t have to do this on your own, right?” Carlos said, pulling my attention away from the computer.
“I know, I know, but. . . I just have a hard time letting someone else have control over stuff. Especially if I’m the one that’s signing off on it that it’s good to go,” I said. “I mean, it’s one thing to trust you with picking out food-”
“Which you didn’t, by the way,” Carlos said with a smirk.
“But it’s another to have people's lives on the line. I won’t take chances with that,” I said, giving him a look.
“Hey, Kit-Kat,” he said, reaching over to grab my hand that was twirling a pen. “You’re the best this place has, but everyone here knows their job. That’s why they’re here. You don’t have to do this alone, the whole point of having a team is to rely on others.”
“I get that and I do hand things over, but. . .” I said, trailing off with a sigh. His hands were rough compared to mine. They were battle worn and had calluses from the hard physical labor of being a grunt. Carlos always knew how to use them though, in fights or like right then when I was slowly letting my guard down a bit. He sat quietly as he gently rubbed the back of my hand with his thumb.
“But what?” He asked softly.
“But it’s you on the mission and I cannot let anything go out that could get you hurt or worse,” I said, keeping my eyes on our hands. “I would never forgive myself if something happened to you because of me and my team and I didn’t catch it because I handed it off to someone else.”
“Your team needs your trust though, Kit. I trust my team,” Carlos said, pulling me over in my wheely office chair. “Look, it’s going to take more than some broken tech to get rid of me okay?” I looked up at him, seeing that goofy smile behind that wild hair.
“You’re my best friend, Carlos. I just don’t want to lose you, okay?” I said, giving a soft smile back.
“Like I could leave you in a cruel Carlos-less world,” he chuckled, pulling me in for a hug.
In the midst of the hug, we knocked over a tub of butter chicken onto me and the floor. The orange sauce soaked into my clothes as it dripped down my desk as we pushed apart quickly.
“Shit, sorry, Kit-Kat,” he said, jumping up to grab paper towels from the bathroom.
“Not your fault. We were getting emotional and this is our punishment for it,” I called after him with a laugh. Thankfully the food wasn’t too hot, but it did cover the front of my shirt and pants. I was going to have to change clothes entirely. “Hey, you get the stuff on the floor and desk, I’m gonna run to the locker room and clean up. I’m gonna have to shower to get all this off me,” I said with a sigh.
“Gotcha. As much as I love butter chicken, I don’t think that color suits you,” he said with a wink.
“I swear,” I grumbled, taking some of the paper towels from him to keep from dripping a trail of spices.
~~~~~~
Carlos let Kit walk away to get cleaned up as he took care of the floor and desk. It wasn’t too bad of a spill, it just happened to end up mostly on Kit. Finding some spray cleaner in the cabinet behind her desk, he quickly took care of the spilt food. At least they still had the curry and rice.
With the spill cleaned up, Carlos made sure the other tubs had their lids closed tightly to avoid further catastrophe. He also found himself unsure of what to do next. He didn’t want to eat without Kit, but what else was there to do? Then Carlos remembered her phone.
With a mischievous smirk, he dug it out from under the files then entered her passcode to find the book she had been reading. Was it probably not okay to do that? Yes. Was he probably going to get socked in the head by Kit if she found out? Very much yes. But when he’d arrived at her office, she had this look on her face with her mouth partially open and her pupils were blown wide as she was breathing a bit heavy. She had to have been reading something good.
For as long as he’d known Kit, she’d been pretty controlling about things as well as uptight in general. Not really in a bad way, but she could learn to relax. Carlos thought it would be nice to date her, help her open up a bit as they enjoyed each other’s company and liked being around one another a lot (they often stayed at each other’s places on the weekends after missions or just because) but each attempt at flirting or asking out failed and he couldn’t figure out why. That evening he was starting to think maybe they were just really good friends and that’s how she saw them. He would have let it be and kept the friendship, but when he started to read her book, he realized he had been going about it ALL wrong.
So that was what his Kit-Kat really wanted. Not the guy next door routine he’d relied on and thought everyone wanted. Well then, it was time to do some research and dig a bit more into this new scene he’d stumbled upon.
The mission was planned to be only a few days and had a lot of waiting around, so Carlos had planned to take time to read up on some things. The others didn’t question him about what it was, his reading picks were pretty random ranging from gunsmithing to Japanese geo-political situations to Ethiopian cooking. So when his nose was buried in a kindle in the down time, they didn’t think twice.
What Carlos found out was that there was a LOT more to the book Kit had been reading and he was starting to think he’d gone in over his head. He had to remind himself though, this was the girl he’d wanted to be with for nearly four years and he was going to do his homework and go that extra mile to impress her and woo her. Even if it meant learning about a whole subculture.
Back at home, he usually spent his first day home with Kit to come down from the adrenaline and anxiety, but the mission was a flop. They had been there for just an hour when they were told that they wouldn’t be needed after all because they ended up choosing a different security company. That was the third time in a month that had happened. Jobs were getting harder to get and keep it seemed with some other rival company called ‘Umbrella’ swooping in at the last second to steal the job. He let Kit know what had happened so he’d be home sooner. She had already said that it was okay that he wasn’t coming over, she was finally letting herself rest. So he was going to take advantage of seeing about the local BDSM scene. He’d read a lot, but needed to talk to someone who knew about it and could explain some things to him. Last thing he wanted was to come in guns blazing and scare Kit off completely.
Finding the building, he’d called ahead to make an appointment to talk to the owner of a local BDSM club. Her name was Lady Alcina Dimitrescu and she was a dom at the club as well.
Carlos wanted to be as serious as he could be about the lesson, so he dressed in his best jeans and a button up that was clean. He didn’t really have much in the way of dress clothing save for a suit and he felt that was over kill. At the front door of the club, he found there was no sign to say what it was other than a black and gold sign marked ‘Club Gold.’ The door itself was down a few steps with a patio on either side of opaque glass windows, the wood of the door was thick and heavy, but a shiny black to match the sign.
Should he knock? Should he message that he was there? Carlos didn’t want to be rude, but he also didn’t want to be late. Checking the door, he found it unlocked. There were no people around the front so when he walked in, the place was quiet. It was the middle of the day, so a BDSM club probably wasn’t in it’s prime hours.
“Mr. Oliveira?” A woman’s voice asked. Carlos turned to see in the bar area where she stood. Dressed in a black business dress with matching patent leather heels that he was pretty sure would work as daggers, the woman smiled and waved to him. “Welcome, I’m Lady Dimitrescu,” she said as he walked over to him. Every step was confident and powerful, the click clack of her heels had ‘unf’ behind them. Her posture and movements said she was very much in control.
“Hello, uh, call me Carlos, please,” he said with a smile, holding out a hand to her.
“Of course. Welcome to ‘Club Gold,’” she said as she took his hand in a firm shake. “Usually we don’t open till 10 PM, but your email was intriguing. Usually we don’t teach directly, but because you explained your situation quite well, I’d be happy to help.”
“Thank you, really,” Carlos said. “I’m not too sure about joining a club like this, but I definitely want to make sure I have what it takes to woo my girl.”
“That’s the beauty of the scene. It’s all safe, sane, and consensual. You don’t do anything you don’t like and neither does your partner or all the participants of your scene. That’s why communication is important. You want to show this young lady that you’re interested in her, but she seems to be interested in less conventional romances, yes?” Lady Dimitrescu said.
“Yeah. I read some of the books she has and I figured that maybe I should try something else. Maybe something to suggest that I would like to try out her interests or at the least show that I’m not the guy next door that has no clue how to pick up on hints and such,” Carlos said with a soft chuckle.
“Well then, let’s begin,” Lady Dimitrescu said with a smirk. She turned on her heel, crooking her finger for him to follow her deeper into the club. Carlos eagerly followed, unaware of all that he would learn.
~~~~~~
I hadn’t seen Carlos in a few days, well properly. There had been a few run ins at the cafeteria, but he’d quickly run off with a wave because of training. It wasn’t that odd, given they had to stay in top shape. Especially with down time now, he would be training a lot more. Which meant I was free to work without him popping in to distract me. Though I really did like him dropping in once in a while. It was getting a bit lonely as I passed on a few projects to my team. I was taking some of his advice to trust my team and make less work for myself. They were excited to have decent work, so I let them have it. It meant I wasn’t as stressed and could get more important work done.
About lunch time, I had decided to head to the cafeteria for some coffee and maybe something from the lunch line. At the coffee station, I grabbed the creamer and mixed it with the steaming, dark drink in my tumbler as I heard the clomping footsteps I was used to.
“Hey there stranger,” I said, giving Carlos a smile. He was in his work out clothes, meaning I could see how sweaty he was in his tight tee and sweatpants that hugged his ass perfectly. I would never complain about seeing that. “How’s it going?”
“Good, we’re doing drills today so I’m getting my ass handed to me by Jill,” he chuckled, leaning against the counter next to me.
“Well, you have fun with that. I stay in the office for that reason. My ass would be taken out by a rogue fly if I tried to do any of the training you guys did more than necessary,” I said with a snort.
“Oh I don’t know. I think you’d surprise yourself,” he said with a snort before pointing to my back. “Oh, your shirt’s come undone in the back.”
Clothing for the most part was pretty casual for the organization, mostly because we had to be able to move and run at a moment’s notice. So, my jeans and black top were in line with policy. The one I had on was over a gray tank top. It gave me long sleeves while winding around my chest to tie in the back. I usually had a lab coat on when in my office or working with my team, but it was one of those days of just being easy to overheat with that one extra layer so the lab coat was off on my break.
“Crap, can you get them for me so I don’t look like an octopus trying to turn around with a spine?” I asked, knowing that it probably came undone because of my crappy tying skills. If it was in front of me, that would be a different story.
“Yeah, sure thing, Kit-Kat,” he said as he moved behind me. I was not prepared for what happened next.
Standing behind me, Carlos adjusted the straps to tighten them. Which would be fine, but he was so close as he worked his arms around me to make sure nothing was pinching or pulling. His dexterous fingers pressed the tie string down just under my breasts to almost braid it down my midsection. Carlos' breath was hot on the back of my neck and I swear he was just an inch away from pressing against me. Then the man had the audacity to tighten the string like he was lacing up a corset as he made just the lowest and softest grunt. I could not help the face I made as my eyes went wide and my cheeks got hot.
Oh no. Oh no, no, no, no, no.
“Does it feel okay?” He asked, his voice low as he stayed close.
“Mhmm,” I nodded, not trusting my voice to be steady as I felt him tie it off. “Thanks.”
“You’re welcome. I better get some food, training is gonna start again soon. I’ll see you later,” Carlos said, stepping away and suddenly turned back into his usual goofy self. I waved back to him before looking at my coffee and questioning everything I knew.
What the hell just happened?
“Uh, Kit?” Rebecca Chambers, the head medical officer, asked as she came up to me. “You okay?”
“Who was that man and what did he do with Carlos?” I wheezed, turning to look at her as I held onto the counter to steady my suddenly shaky legs.
The surprise of Carlos suddenly becoming a very, very dominating flirt was jarring, but not in a bad way. In fact it was really nice and I think I discovered something new about myself and having clothes tied to me. Damn it.
Later in the week, I was told I had training to do. It was for field missions as well as team building. Everyone was given a partner, scientists and computer techs were paired up with field grunts and commanders. Who did I get paired up with? Carlos of course.
There was an obstacle course that we would run through, which was set up two stories high. We would help balance each other as we step up a pair of logs to a post and then go across a line while holding lengths of rope like a rope swing. We then would climb across a rope lattice to the third post to zipline to the fourth post where you and your partner had to swing across a large gap to the last post that had a wobbly rope and plank bridge.
It didn’t seem that hard, but as Carlos and I grabbed the harnesses and helmets to put on, we saw the pairs trying to work together only to fail. The teams kept falling off the obstacles or getting stuck upside down, it was a bloodbath.
“So, how are we going to make it through that?” I asked as we stood off to the side.
“You’ve been through worse, it’ll be a piece of cake for us,” Carlos said as he slipped on his harness easily. “Just don’t get stuck in your head like you tend to do and you’ll be fine.”
“Uh huh,” I said with a snort as I attempted to put my own harness on. “Jesus Christ on a bike. Carlos, help. I’m already tangled in the harness and I haven’t even left the ground.”
“Alright, keep your shorts on,” he said with a chuckle. He grabbed the waist harness and held it open for me to get my legs in the right holes before having me hold the nylon straps in place. Whatever had gotten into him before had come back because he knelt directly in front of me to tighten my harness. “That feel good?” He asked, looking up from under those damn gorgeous eyelashes with a crooked smile. His voice had gone low and I felt its rumble against parts of me that it shouldn’t have. “You need it tighter, Minha gatinha?”
“What are you doing?” I hissed. My cheeks were HOT. While a lot of the employees here didn’t speak Portuguese, I did. Was this flirting better than before? Yes. Was I enjoying it? Very much yes. Was it surprising and had me taken aback into a fluster? Jesus yes. Did I know how to process this while we were at work and in front of EVERYONE? Absolutely not.
“What? I’m just making sure my partner is prepared for the obstacle course,” he said as he tightened the straps a bit before standing up to lean in close to my ear. “Now, be a good girl and put your helmet on.”
This man was an alien and had taken over my best friend’s body because Carlos could never make me blush so hard and have me squeezing my thighs together as I tried to remember how to breathe.
“Yes, Sir,” I said, my voice breathy as I put my helmet on and clipped the straps. Of course Carlos had to adjust it, his fingers grazing over my scalding skin as he looked on like it was nothing.
“Now, let’s go win an obstacle course,” he said, putting his arm around my shoulders to lead me to where we started.
The obstacle course went well, we didn’t fall, but it did take us some time when my foot got tangled in the rope lattice. Carlos was quick though, helping me lift that foot to shake it free. He also showed mercy by being his usual self when we were up there, probably to keep me from falling off like a fainting goat.
That was only the beginning though.

Day Two
Fandom: Resident Evil
Pairing: Jill and Carlos
Prompt: Word: cold | setting: coffeeshop AU
Words: 1.1k
Jill doesn’t always enjoy her time working as a barista, but she always enjoys seeing her favorite customer. Even if she won’t admit it. @writersmonth
“Sorry, please repeat that.”
The man let out an annoyed noise but repeated his order one more time for Jill to take down. Jill ignored his attitude as she leaned forward slightly to write down his order on his drink. Another few seconds and Jill finished with the customer, passing the drink to Claire before preparing to take the next order.
The noise from the crowd in the shop, mixed with the annoying pop music playing from the speakers, was starting to grate on Jill’s nerves. She had had a late night, but no matter how much she tried to, sleep evaded her. All she could hope for was for her own coffee to keep her going and her shift to be over quickly.
The morning crowd seemed to only be growing the past few months and it made her job that much harder. Her co-workers didn’t help either. No matter what time they were working, early morning or late at night, Claire and Leon always seemed to find a way to goof off. Whenever she did try to corral them back into working like normal people, they’d last about 10 seconds before they were back to making jokes.
“Ohhh your favorite customer is here.” Claire had appeared over Jill’s shoulder, shaking her shoulders teasingly. “Make sure to put on your best face.” She bumped hips with Jill, attempting to take over the drink that Jill had been working on.
"Claire," Jill yelled out in surprise, fumbling with the cup she was holding. Claire snatched the cup up with deft hands and brought them in front of her, not even glancing Jill's way as she worked.
“Be careful! I could have spilled that” Jill was tired and the last thing she needed was to make a mess during the morning rush.
Claire waved her hand at Jill and motioned towards the counter, "Don't worry about this, go help him out. It's the only time you are willing to talk to him anyways. Let me help you out."
Jill worked her jaw for a moment, trying to think of any sort of witty comeback she could say. But her already exhausted brain decided that was too much work and remained blank.
“You guys are the worst sometimes,” Jill muttered under her breath as she rubbed her temples. It didn't help that Leon came out from the stockroom right as she spoke.
“You know you love us,” Leon said cheerfully as he walked past her. “But what did we do this time?” He directed his question at Claire who motioned towards the door in response.
Jill ignored whatever they said next. She didn’t need their pointless chatter influencing her thoughts, especially right now. It was bad enough when he wasn’t here, but when he was? They were intolerable.
Taking a breath, she turned around to face the man on the other side of the counter. “Hey Carlos. Surviving the cold out there?
She took in his bundled form covered with a thick warm jacket. He wore a beanie on his head and a scarf around his neck that seemed to protect him from the cold. His face was flushed from being exposed to the elements.
He gave her a warm smile as he rubbed his hands together. "I think I'll live, but I might freeze out there if Mikhail has his way."
"Working you that hard still?" It annoyed her hearing how far his job pushed him but she figured it wasn't her place to say anything. They only started getting to know each other and she didn't want to ruin that by stepping on any boundaries.
"You worried about me?" He gave her a sly smile that almost made her blush. "Don't worry. I won't become a Carlos-cicle today. Wouldn't want to miss out on seeing my favorite barista tomorrow."
That set her heart racing. She took slow breaths to try and calm herself and scoffed at his attempts to flirt with her. " You’re always complaining about your job working you too hard, excuse me for showing concern. Sounds like you'll be fine. Your usual then to keep you warm out there?
He chuckled and said, “Not today. I’ll take a black coffee instead. That will keep me going for the rest of the day.”
“Same here,” she said, bringing out her own black coffee and looking out at the crowd to emphasize her point. “It seems like everyone is trying to hide from the bad weather before heading off to work. Which leaves me to deal with their cranky behaviors.”
"From how I've seen you handle those cranky customers in the past, something tells me you'll be just fine." He was leaning on the counter at this point, a grin never leaving his face as he chatted with her.
"Uh, thanks." She didn't know what else to say beyond that, but as the fear of things turning awkward started to set in, Claire jumped in.
“One cup of coffee, hot and ready!” She had a big smile plastered on her face while she handed him her drink.
“There's my favorite barista!” Carlos called out. They made a big show of passing the drink off and thanking each other at the expense of Jill. Usually she would be annoyed but at this point she was too tired to care and rolled her eyes. It also didn't escape her that Carlos would glance at her every few seconds before looking back to Claire.
She smiled at their theatrics, but started to push Claire away as she said, "Alright you two, we're in public you know."
Carlos gave her an apologetic smile but Claire seemed to be trying to tell Jill something through her expression as she nudged Jill back.
“Guess you gotta work a little harder at being the favorite.” Claire finally said, deflating as she shook her head at Jill's apparent lack of ability to grasp what she was trying to convey.
“I don’t need to do anything but my job.” Jill responded, ignoring Claire's annoyance at whatever she had missed. She knew it had to do with Carlos but now wasn't the time. It was hard to be mad at Claire, no matter how much she teased her about Carlos. She just wished the teasing wouldn’t happen while Carlos was right in front of her.
“Which I should probably leave you ladies to do.” He looked behind him sheepishly. but appeared to relax when he saw that there was no line behind him. “Sorry to distract you. I’ll see you both later. Bye Leon!”
They all waved goodbye and watched as he headed out the door. Jill let out a wistful sight as the door shut behind him. No matter how much she dismissed and scoffed at Claire and Leon’s teasing, it was hard for her to deny the moments when she wished she had the nerve to act on her feelings. Feelings she was very good at pushing aside.
Tomorrow, she told herself. The same thing she had told herself every day since he had started coming into the coffee shop.

Hehe, don't know why I ask this, but what type of girls would every RE character would get attract?
Thank you for your question. I’ll answer it in two parts. The first will be about male characters and the second about female characters. I’ll publish it later so stay tuned. Also, I didn’t really answer for every characters but for the main ones. And I didn’t include Ethan cause I think I don’t know enough about him to do so.
HEADCANON: Resident Evil Characters and their type of girls. (PART1)
Chris Redfield: Jill. Im winking at you Valenfield shippers. No, but seriously ... Chris likes simple women and natural beauties. He is not attracted by the sultry seductive type at all and eccentricity is a total no for him. It even repulses him sometimes. Take the example of Jessica Sherawat. When it comes to personality, Chris looks for a woman who is true to herself. He will favour honesty and loyalty above all. He also adores independent strong woman that can handle themselves.
Leon S. Kennedy: Many would call Leon a womaniser but the truth is, he is not. Sure he loves women, all women, not having a particular type. But he doesn’t chase them. He is no player. He just falls easily for them because that’s what comes with his caring/ protective personality. You could almost characterise him a hopeless romantic. But despite not having a particular type, there are some similarities in the women Leon dated/ is interested in. They don’t need a man. They don’t need him. They are strong and confident and they don’t crawl at his feet, drooling, (Look at Ada, Angela, Helena and even Claire). They are hard to get and that is terribly sexy and attractive to Leon.
Carlos Oliveira: Again, Jill. That’s it. That’s the answer. No, i’m kidding. But Jill is definitely the type of woman that Carlos would do anything for. So, if you want to be more than just another fling in Carlos’ life (because in that case he would go for any pretty girl), you must show him that you got temper, spunk and that you know what you want. Carlos loves challenges and he will go for the chase and use all the flirty cards he’s got in his sleeve to seduce you if you display those characteristics. And he won’t give up. But I guess, he would definitely love a woman that occasionally flirts back. So, in a nutshell, be a sexy badass.
Albert Wesker: Wesker is not attracted to anyone but himself. He is egocentric and narcissistic and that doesn’t leave place for any relationship or possible attraction. But, if he is in the mood to welcome a woman in his life for a night (because it won’t be for more than that), he will go for the submissive type that he can control and manipulate the way he wants. He is a god and that woman would have to be a priestess. Meaning she would have to worship him and show great devotion. I believe he would also be attracted to woman way younger than him. We can take the picture of Rebecca hidden in his office as proof. (that makes me so uncomfortable when i think about it)
Piers Nivans: To me, Piers is a young Chris Redfield but contrary to Chris, Piers is way more grounded and much less impulsive. So he needs a girl that is pretty much like him, calm and down to earth. I don’t see Piers dating a girl in the military. I guess he would like to have her belonging to a world outside of the BSAA, despite his incredible devotion to the cause, just for the sake of having a shelter to go back when things gets bad. He would probably go for the girl next door but she would have to share his point of view and his moral. He needs understanding and compassion.
Jake Muller: Jake is a protective man so he would thrive in a relationship if the girl he is with let him a somewhat dominant place in their couple. But, do not be the damsel in distress. Jake can act a bit like a macho but that’s often just a facade. He wants a woman that can pit herself against him on occasion and that will refuse being bossed around. Show your strength and don’t be afraid to take the helm when you have to.

(1/4) The issue I have with Ada and Leon is that their relationship is portrayed way too unclear for my liking. I like it when there's room for interpretation but I shouldn't have to turn to 5 different media to fully understand the concept developers had behind their scenes. I shouldn't have to listen to the interviews with the VAs to have the "ah, ok, now I see it" moment.
(2/4) I know these days game developers like to think that with modern graphics you can do everything but that's not true. Animated characters will never be as expressive as real people. Sometimes you just have to say something openly to get your point across. That's cool that the RE2 remake director discussed with Ada's VA how much vulnerability she could show to Leon but her inner conflict didn't translate into the screen in my opinion.
(3/4) It goes for their entire interaction. It looks like what was going on on the set between the actors was much richer than the final product. And that we are better at analyzing it than developers at delivering it. It's not actors' fault. It's developers' who can't write. Everything about Jill and Carlos' characters and their relationship was clear to me precisely because the characters were talking not only to each other but they were also voicing their doubts.
(4/4) I also didn't have that issue with Leon and Claire's relationship. I also don't have that issue with any of the characters seperately. Ada and Leon on their own are awesome. But the developers are so hung up on making their relationship confusing that it just annoys me.
---
Tbh I’ve never listened to what the VAs have to say, but it’s so neat when other people tell me about them!
If, in terms of media, you’re talking about the rest of the games, then I also don’t think it’s fair to say that you shouldn’t have to reference them to get a clear picture of the relationship when their journey throughout the games over time is what makes their connection the strongest. However, if you’re talking about extra content like VA overviews and stuff like that, then I happen to agree! No media should rely on the extra content people might not see as a means to convey a point. It pisses me off to no end when the fandoms I’m in tend to rely on that so much.
And yeah, micro-expressions and other complicated displays of emotion will never come across fully on screen the way real actors can pull off. Resident evil especially seems to have a hard time with that, as I’ve often found their characters lacking in any sub-contextual emotions or subtle displays of feeling. As a result, when characters don’t speak or the exposition isn’t explicit enough, things the writers mean for players to understand tend to fall to the wayside.
Resident Evil is crippled a lot by it’s poor writing. The inability to carry out a full and cohesive storyline over multiple games as well as the oftentimes shocking level of disconnect between installments will always make it less than it could be. Resident Evil has such strong characters but it also fails to deliver fully on the complexity and depth of their characters. This doesn’t just go for Ada Wong, it pretty consistently applies to almost every character in the franchise (although I will admit that Ada is hurt by it more than most simply because she’s already so secretive - Capcom also being so secretive leaves us with little in regards to her and her motivations).
With Ada and Leon, the developers of the games really need to come out and say things clearly. It was fun at first, but at this point it’s hurting both the characters and the relationship the writers are trying to build. Once more, however, I will disagree that the connection between them isn’t clear (at least to me), but I feel as if I’ve already said why and I don’t wont to repeat myself lol (I hope you don’t mind).
But I will say that I also happen to disagree about the level of vulnerability conveyed in the sewers scene. I’ve never needed the VAs or any kind of overlapping conversations to guide me through it or tell me what was going on. Since the very first moment I saw that scene I got a pretty solid impression of what was happening and how it translated for Ada’s character and her relationship with Leon. The vulnerability and Ada’s struggle with it (especially in regards to him) has always been something I’ve noticed in her.
I’ve also never had a problem with Leon and Claire’s relationship either! XD I love them so much. I just had a hard time reading them as romantic like so much of the fandom seemed to? My first impression of them was so solidly platonic that it was actually surprising to me when I saw people shipping them romantically. Which actually tracks, because I played the Leon A playthrough first. So I never actually got what people meant about “tension you could cut with a knife” because the flirting and interest on Leon’s end is almost nonexistent compared to Claire’s. As soon as I played Claire B is saw what people meant, because you can hear her interest a lot more than you could ever hear Leon’s.
I always got a strong impression that Claire had a bit of a crush on Leon at first that eventually faded into feelings of friendship when nothing continued. Although as soon as I started to ship it I enjoyed the idea of those shallow crush feelings turning into something deeper and more authentic as time went on instead, with Leon returning the feelings.
And yeah XD, Capcom characters are always much better on their own. Ada’s character thrives when she’s on her own, and it kills me that we don’t get to see more of that. Like absolutely murders me. I am begging Capcom to give us an Ada game. Not an Ada movie, an Ada game.
Please Capcom I’m literally dying over here. I’m being starved! Ugh.
Lol anyways. Thanks so much for the ask!! It was really interesting and I honestly agree with so much of it. I hope you have a lovely day 😊💕
