Yes but it’s so hard to MEET THOSE PEOPLE, unless you are on this accursed website but even then people don’t aggressively try to befriend each other even when you are matched evenly in tastes
why do ppl do drugs when you can just experience the absolute high of meeting someone who isn’t just unhinged about your fandom but is also feral about your otps

This is dark, and I totally understand if you’re not comfortable answering this, but I genuinely feel like you’re the best person to ask.
How do I stay informed without spiraling into this absolutely unhealthy, blood boiling and borderline mouth frothing anger?
I feel like a barely follow anything any more so cutting down media consumption isn’t an answer, but in the small bit of news I saw tonight I’m literally hot to the touch and having an invasive thought spiral of “Why isn’t he dead? Someone needs to kill him! SOMEONE KILL HIM! KILL HIM KILL HIM KILL KILL KILL MAIM UNTIL THERES NO REDS LEFT FOR THE SAKE OF US PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD KILL THEM ALREADY-“
This isn’t healthy. I know it isn’t healthy. But even knowing the statistics of non-violent revolution vs violent revolution, I can’t help but feel like we’re watching a trolley problem unfold in the worst ways because the modern population is a bunch of cowards.
This isn’t helped at all by the fact I have personal reasons from the last admin that I need to see them SUFFER. And far worse than just some dealership fires.
Oh hon. Please recognize that I am only a tired middle-aged queer academic on the internet with no formal medical or psychological credentials and thus am definitely not the best person to help you here, but because you have said that you value my opinion and trust my advice, I hope that you will consider what I say and see what you can do. (It is hard. It is super hard. I know.)
First, please consider whether you need to be informed. I know that a lot of us have guilt complexes around "consuming" the "right kind of news" and having the "right kind of opinions," because social media has beaten it into us that is the only way to Do Activism (wrong). If you're feeling so completely wrung-out right now that even a little information is overwhelming you, you can just not look, period. That is okay to do. If you need permission from Someone On The Internet to just cold-turkey yourself, then this is it. If you want to stay on Tumblr but can't take seeing any political/news content at all, then you can block, unfollow, tag-and-content screen (remember that you can do more than just block tags; you can block any words that you don't want to see), literally whatever you need. You can block the usernames of people who consistently post political content that distresses you, even if you agree with it. You are not obligated to be constantly informed to the point of trauma. You do not owe anyone a social media presence, or your attention, or so forth. After all, you alone can't do a whole lot to change it, and you need to take care of yourself. We are in a shitty, shitty time right now. Things real bad.
That said, it sounds to me as if you also need to take the next step and get some proper support, especially because you recognize that these thoughts are intrusive, spiraling, and unhealthy but don't feel as if you can stop them on your own. Uncontrollable rage response is a common PTSD symptom, and we are all hella traumatized right now, for literally every imaginable reason. This is a real mental health issue and not just something that you can control by screening your internet content/news consumption/social media presence further, though that might help. So I would really suggest that you start the process of finding a therapist or similar other medical professional who is trained to help and support you and who can offer structured resources that friends and even random well-meaning Tumblr users such as myself can't. It sounds scary and difficult, but it's not, you can do a bit at a time, and it will be necessary so you don't feel so completely raged-out and shaken and scared all the time.
If you have health insurance, you can go on your provider's page and easily make a list of nearby doctors for different kinds of issues, i.e. in this case mental health and counseling. Many of them have extra identity-or practice-specific information listed (such as "LGBTQ-friendly" or "great bedside manner" or "does telehealth appointments" and so forth) and you can also read the reviews for individual practitioners to see if they sound like someone who might be the right fit for you. In other words, you can do a lot of screening even before you arrive in their office and see if they're someone you might be able to work with and open up to. (And as noted, many of them also have virtual options if Zoom feels less threatening for an initial contact.) Make sure that they ARE in-network because you don't want to get socked by expensive appointment fees (health insurance sucks etc), but if you don't have insurance or only a very basic coverage level, you can also search for local or community health-center practitioners who might be able to offer sliding-scale fees or major discounts. There are usually affordable options if you do a bit of looking. If you are at a university in any fashion, make use of the student health and counseling centers. They are there for you!
As I said: things are just flat out terrible right now, and we can't do much about it on an individual level, but we still have to figure out how to take care of ourselves and get through it somehow. Please do not feel guilty if what you need to do right now is go into total news blackout and get some professional help. That is honestly the least of what could be expected from living every day in a stupid and traumatizing situation like this one, and there are plenty of other people who will carry on fighting back while you are tapping out to do some self-care. You do not have to do this alone.
Eventually, you may be able to regain some equilibrium and plan out how you're going to manage the next few weeks/months/years, how you're going to find joy in small things, how you're going to plan to continue living your life even in the face of rampant murderous and unavoidable idiocy, etc. This may or may not be comforting, but as a historian, I can attest that people of previous generations have pretty much always thought the world was ending due to [insert stupid issue du jour.] That, unfortunately, is the story of humanity in a nutshell, and until we break that cycle, it's going to continue that way. However, the bright side is that the world has not ended and has gone onward, and the odds are decent that it will do so again this time. I can't offer much more than that, but I think that's important.
Courage. Take care of yourself. We can do this together. Stay strong. Much love. I am proud of you.

A/N: Part two for you all! I personally think I start to really settle in after this one. Hope you enjoy!
Differential diagnosis was part art and part science. It was as much about making a judgment call as it was about remembering the actual medicine of it all. Doctors in the trauma department had to not be sensitive about being told they were wrong. There wasn’t time for hurt feelings and no one was keeping score. It wasn’t one doctor’s victory when another person got to leave the ER with their life, it was the whole team.
That had been the gist of at least three Pitt Sermons from Dr. Robby and yet, now there he stood across from her over a patient, his feathers clearly ruffled by Dr. Reilly’s pushback on his plan of action.
She didn’t really want to intubate this man unless absolutely necessary. Dr. Robby was practically insisting, but something told Rose it had more to do with how the patient had been behaving just prior to the breathing episode that landed them in this moment than it had to do with the actual severity of the condition.
It was week three of the whole team being on night shift and Rose really didn’t mind the crazy hours. Leaving the hospital in the greenish blue dawn to go sleep in her cave of an apartment didn’t bother her. It was just a different routine.
The guy was dropped off by his roommate because he’d been sick and hacking up a lung. In spite of needing all the oxygen he could get, he had taken to wasting his breath shooting his best shot with Dr. Reilly as she went about her diagnostic work on him. Rose didn’t really mind, as long as people kept their hands to themselves. What did she care if they flirted with the wall?
After the initial labs and scans came back, Rose grabbed Dr. Robby for a consult. The man had decreased breath sounds on one side but was otherwise stable. His lung was at risk of collapsing and he was going to need surgery to remove the fluid build up. All of that she was sure of. The consult was needed to get Robby’s required sign off for medication adjustments and she wanted to get the patient prepped for surgery.
Dr. Robby nodded when she asked for the consult and gestured for her to lead the way.
“My future wife is back,” rasped the man holding the oxygen mask to his face and smirking as the curtain was pulled back around his bed.
The comment sent Robby’s eyebrows skyward and he caught just enough of Rose’s eye roll he gathered this was the tone of the visit.
“I brought Dr. Robby to listen to your lungs so we can get you scheduled for surgery.” Rose explained coolly, picking up his chart to make a note of his vitals and the time.
“He’s nice to look at but not my type. I’m way more into smart, hot brunettes. I guess he fits those categories, but not like you, Dr. Reilly.”
There may have been a weak hand lifting in her direction, but Robby stepped forward quickly. “Please stop talking so I can listen properly.” He said, his tone flat but with a distinct edge. Robby told himself that patients were mouthy all the time, he wasn’t bothered by a random sick man hitting on one of his residents. That would be ridiculous.
“O2 is down. We should intubate.” Robby said as he stepped back from the bed. Rose couldn’t help but frown. “They’ll intubate after he’s under general. He’s stable right now,” she argued and that’s when Robby’s expression hardened. Maybe it was the night shifts, the timing, the long day, the fact that he hadn’t been sleeping well for a few reasons, but he snapped a little. Robby poked his head out of the curtain and called for Dr. Langdon to come intubate.
“We secure airways before we hand off patients, Dr. Reilly. If he suffocates because he was bumped for surgery, it’s my ass as your attending,” Robby said in a low tone as Frank and a nurse prepared to intubate and they stepped out.
Something hot and righteous flared to life in Rose’s chest. Before she could stop herself, she pushed open the door to an empty consult room and pulled Robby sharply by his wrist into the room. He stumbled, surprised and grunted as she shoved him again. “Jesus, Reilly. What the fuck?”
“You’re intubating a stable patient with good vitals because he’s a mouthy little bitch who dared flirt with me,” Rose said, crossing her arms over her chest and fixing him with a glare.
It was a sharp accusation and, judging by his uncomfortable and defensive reaction, a true one. “Don’t be ridiculous. His vitals are not good, his O2 is tanking. He’s an hour and a half from being in surgery. When he is intubated is immaterial, my word, my judgment is final here. You can disagree with my assessment, but you cannot and will not overrule me. The work you and all the other doctors on this floor do is my responsibility. My personal feelings have nothing to do with it.”
Rose wanted to be satisfied that he was clearly sputtering a little, but she wasn’t. “Admit it,” she insisted, her jaw tight. “It bothered you. And that impacted your decision. It might not have been your entire thought process, but it was part of it.” She punctuated the sentence with an index finger hitting his chest.
“What the fuck do you want me to say? That I’m some kind of Neanderthal who hated someone else leering at you? Hated him making those shitty comments I’ve heard a lot of people make about you? Yeah, I didn’t like it. Are you happy?” Robby asked, lowering his voice to an angry whisper.
“So happy,” Rose snarled back sarcastically. “It’s a really fun aspect of my career development having to have men behave irrationally because they’re horny for me.”
“Excuse me, Dr. Reilly, I was not behaving irrationally. I made a judgment call based on years of experience and education. I would absolutely never put a patient through something unnecessary simply because I’m horny for you. I took an oath not to harm,” Robby said, his temper really starting to flare. People didn’t get under his skin, he was always level-headed. Especially at work. What the fuck was wrong with him?
“But you are horny for me and it did piss you off.” Rose said, and then she was getting in his face.
“I think I’ve freely admitted to both of those facts. Did you want to continue questioning my authority and judgment or can we both get back to work?” Robby retorted, crossing his arms and leaning in, all but daring her to keep pushing.
His frustration made Rose feel smug as she watched him bristle. She had spent the last few weeks without him in her bed, and the easy professionalism that he treated her with at work had all but convinced her she had been more affected by their time together than he had. She’d been trying to put that feeling in its place and not feel shame about the loneliness that had creeped over her in his absence. She tried not to wonder if he missed her too, for her presence and personality or even just the physical comfort they found in each other.
Clearly he had, and that knowledge alone made her want to shift tactics.
“It’s a little bit hot,” Rose whispered. He inhaled slowly, and the effect of her words rippled through his body language.
Fuck it.
His lips were on hers before the smirk could fade from her face. Once he broke the seal, she became an equal participant as he tugged her body flush to his.
They were quick and quiet, apart from the soft sighs from Rose as she pressed her face to his neck. She wasn’t even on the exam table, just propped against it as they pulled pleasure from each other. The weeks’ worth of night shifts and longing glances released in a rush of poor decision making.
When it was over, the post-orgasm clarity hit them both like a freight train.
“Fuck,” he sighed, his head falling to her shoulder for a moment as they both caught their breath. Her fingers were in his hair and she knew she had about thirty more seconds of physical contact before the panic spurred them both into action. It wasn’t even that long before he pulled away. “That was so stupid.” He exhaled, shaking his head. “We can’t do that here.”
“So stupid,” Rose murmured in agreement as she went about making herself presentable again with trembling hands, the adrenaline making her heart race. “We said we weren’t doing that anywhere.”
“Well we never really said,” he pointed out unhelpfully and then winced when she turned to give him a blank look.
Neither of them apologized though and she was grateful for that because she could live with being stupid but regretting it would have made her sick to her stomach.
“I have to get back to…” she gestured vaguely at the door. “Saving lives. Good talk.”
The hallway was blissfully empty at 3 am and Rose slipped out before him. He took the hint and went the opposite way a few minutes later.
It was easy enough to tell Dana he was catching a 15 minute nap and she believed him because the night shift was the worst and he certainly looked like he just woken up full of anxiety.

The second of my pieces for @legacywagonfanzine!
Ei8ht has to be one of my favourite episodes, it’s SO much fun and there are so many good bits that came out of it… (Plus, I thought the eight layers of hell would lend well to a fun drawing!)

1. why would you tag me you’re reblogging directly from me, obviously it’s going to show up in my notifications
2. none of what i said is ‘cop think’. i am begging you and your fellow liberals to learn what the police actually are and what their stated and inferred objectives are before you start labelling people brutalised by the police as thinking like them. i am a black autistic trans man. in what world do you think it is appropriate to a) speak to me like this and b) accuse me of ‘thinking like a cop’
i’m not talking about rehabilitation and neither was OP. you’re not rehabilitating random people on the internet who are actively in support of republicans and trump (seeing as that’s the only brand of evil you can fathom). you’re doing that within your community, not again. on the internet. i am aware that people are not ontologically evil. i am a prison abolition supporter and student of its theory, and i think i would be quite the hypocrite to believe that some people can are inherently evil.
what i am saying is that one has to be able to confront reality head on, even if their goal is restorative justice, as you claim yours is here. republicans voters voted for a president who very clearly labelled all mexicans as rapists, criminals and terrorists, who admitted to sexually assaulting women and who stacked the supreme court with conservatives. nothing you say is going to change the reality that they were not dissuaded by the vile rhetoric coming out of his mouth.
what i find interesting is that you are unable to provide a response to my point about coddling american conservatives and instead wrote all of this to address things i never said.

Dont get me wrong I love Brennan Lee mulligan and think he's an extremely talented entertainer and probably just a decent guy on top of that. I would hang out with him. but people really need to be less married to this particular quote of his. It's just bad analysis, it's not a true or productive thing to believe. "All fascists are bullies (and, by implication, all bullies are fascists)" is puuuuureeee cope

Spent my shower this morning thinking about how sad I am that Davrin is the least-romanced companion so I’m going to gush incoherently about him because
GOSH I love Davrin!!!
This is a man who has convinced himself he’s a sword against the darkness. He’s “the bodyguard”, a monster hunter, a gruff all-business type who thinks of himself as not fitting into the culture that raised him
When really deep down he’s a shepherd, a guardian of nature and a DEEPLY caring person who uses professional distance to hide from his fears. His fear of not having a purpose, of not being good enough to raise Assan, of having to discover a future for himself (and with Rook if you romance him)
He’s the companion that calls Rook “the boss”. He pushes everyone’s boundaries and sometimes says rude things (his banters with Lucanis, his one conversation with Neve where he’s testing if Rook is paying attention).
But he’s also the companion that’s looking out for Rook the most. I’m convinced one of the reasons he asks Rook to go out to the forest with him and Assan is so Rook can take a break and just. Breathe in some fresh not-Fade air. See the real sky. He even confirms in his picnic date that he was hoping it would be relaxing for Rook too! He’s trying to shepherd ROOK as much as he is Assan and the halla!
Even when Rook returns from Fade Jail, Davrin’s response to their anxiety and fear with comfort and stability, because he’s ALWAYS looking to take care of people.
And then when you offer him a future with Rook, one he didn’t think would happen because he told himself NOT to fall in love with the boss (but how could he not, he loves the pursuit, the “thrill of the chase” and this time he caught his mark) that future is what he uses to get himself through that last battle. It motivates him and he sounds so soft when he talks about it before you take on Elgar’nan…
His arc is purely reflected in how he talks about Assan. Assan is the symbol of Davrin’s own struggles and also his method of dealing with them- caught between hunter and caretaker, finding a way to balance the two. And his romance emphasizes this by underlining his caring nature even more- he’s a hunter in pursuit but once he catches what he’s after, he’s the heart of a halla.
Just….Davrin!!!!

You know I do find it fascinating that skystar is such a popular ship, like I think it’s Starscream’s second most popular ship outside of megastar, despite the fact that it was only in g1. I’m pretty sure outside of that they haven’t had a connection to each other (outside of Shattered Glass, and by saying that, I’m wondering if there’s more precedent in the comics too. But at least TV show wise, I think it was only g1)
Granted, some of it probably comes from the fact that while Starscream is in basically every continuity, Skyfire/Jetfire is in very few, due to copyright/licensing issues, which is also why he’s got an inconsistent name on top of that. So like, most of the time you can just invent Skyfire and insert him into continuities with a similar backstory to g1 and it doesn’t cause too much damage
But yeah, even that; this ship’s got a real grip on the community despite its one appearance, and it wasn’t even Prime or IDW. Though it was g1, so that probably accounts for something
Edit: I switched up Animated in my examples to IDW, because while I know Animated is very fondly remembered, I don’t think it had the impact on the fanon or canon that Prime did. IDW I think was more influential, at least on the shipping scene. I do mention this in the tags so just know I edited IDW in later

One of the things I find interesting about Levi is the fact that he just. doesn’t change his opinions on people, unless told by others to, because he just- doesn’t have opinions on them. And okay yeah this was kind of an obvious thing he did literally say he didn’t care about people but still-
This is seen mostly with David where Levi still considered him ‘a good person’ even after his whole “I’m a lying, manipulative, scumbaggy piece of shit,” moment, because before that, everyone else considered David to be a good person-
And since Levi doesn’t exactly understand things like having an opinion on someone, and just based his off the people around him, he just- continues to consider David to be one. And I just find that interesting :>
(Wait, does Levi even really understand why David is now considered a bad person? Maybe on a theoretical moral standpoint he would- Because he does know what society considers ‘right’ or ‘wrong,’ or at least he knows some of it, even if his own moral compass is- kind of nonexistent- But besides that- I don’t know if he’d understand how people’s opinions of someone can change so quickly just from one conversation, or even just one sentence-)

So fixated on Cinderella Boy but too ashamed to actually rant anything about it to anyone (but my sister) but I secretly am plotting a ritual incantation so the demons can possess my friends so they read it and one day walk up to me and just “happen” to talk about it with me.
CB is one of like the 20 reasons my 2025 year has been going to shit (not bc I dislike anything but bc I been so depressed over the current ending iykyk)
