I understand if you’re a child and you thought this was fun or something, and it is, but me and Connie don’t always enjoy seeing asks like these. We do a lot of work on our storyline and making sure everything makes sense, so having people assume where our plot is going and wanting to tell the characters what will happen is a bit?? Idk, it’s just not nice on our end. Especially not on mine, as I’m the one who edits everything so it’ll all make sense. Artist Participation in Brief

You will produce a polished illustration tangibly inspired by the fanfiction you’re paired with.

What does tangibly inspired mean? You can choose to depict: 👉 the featured characters 👉 a specific scene from the fic 👉 a broader, more symbolic illustration, like might be used for a book cover What route you take is up to you! You're encouraged to talk to your writer for inspiration, but this is not a commission, so follow your imagination and inspiration.

Do I need to be a professional or experienced artist to join? What if I only like certain Dragon Age games or content?

We accept artists of all skill and experience levels! You do not need to be professional or experienced, and there is no application/jurying period for this type of event. Once you sign up, you're in! Our writers' fics cover all four Dragon Age games, with themes ranging from modern AUs to canon retellings to NSFW & darkfic. Whatever part of Dragon Age is your favorite, we have a fic that will interest you!

About Claims & Matching:

Anonymous pitches will be available from August 3rd - 10th to artists who submit a sign-up. You must submit a sign-up form to access the pitches! The fics on offer range from Teen to Explicit and have a variety of relationship types, including platonic and crossover ships. Some of our writers are focusing on canon characters, while others are including OCs. You can find an example of the information provided in the pitches here. After reviewing, you'll be asked to rank your top 3 choices, and the mods will match up writers and artists based on those rankings.

Our first order of business is nailing down the dates for this year's Zukka Week. We want to give everyone as much time as possible to create, so we're aiming to have it sometime in November, before everyone gets busy with the winter holidays.

To our Erised community,

Fandom thrives when creativity is paired with consideration—given the ongoing harm to the trans community perpetuated by JKR, we feel a particular responsibility to ensure Erised is inclusive and welcoming to our trans community members.

In response to overwhelming feedback from both the community at large and Erised participants, we’ll be creating a comprehensive inclusivity FAQ that incorporates more perspective from queer, trans, gender-nonconforming, non-binary, and other marginalized members of our community. Please note that this will be a formalized rule and fully posted for Erised starting in 2026.

So for this year, before the rule is finalized, we are asking all Erised participants to not include 'trans characters' under their 'content I would rather not receive' section of their form as a blanket statement. Despite best intentions, blanket statements like this can be alienating and exclusionary.

We are requesting anyone who has written 'trans [characters]' under content I would rather not receive to clarify which parts of the trans experience would be uncomfortable for them to receive, or if this is tricky to articulate for you, specify that as your reason for the request, instead of a statement excluding trans representation without context.

Some examples of things you might wish to replace a blanket "no trans character" statement with include (but are not limited to):

Specific elements related being trans that might be difficult for you to receive like medical transition, gender dysphoria, a focus on gender discovery/coming out journey, transphobia, particular words for (or any descriptions at all of) genitalia, certain types of sex (i.e.; vaginal sex), etc.

A wish to only receive trans characters if they are written by trans authors

If you have very specific, or hard to pinpoint, preferences surrounding trans representation or concerns about how sensitively this topic will be treated by your gifter, and therefore prefer your gifter to avoid depicting trans MCs to be on the safe side, please explain this on your form.

What does this mean if I am a participant? 

Please check your email. We’ve sent out an email with more guidance around this request for 2025 sign-ups.

Please note we will never expect any creator to write/draw a trans character if they do not feel comfortable doing so. When we make matches, we endeavor to make sure creators have multiple things in common with their giftee, and try our best to pair people who want to receive trans representation with those who expressed interest in writing/drawing trans characters. Even if your recipient lists this as a “like”, as for any other content, you may choose whether or not to include it in your work.

We ask for your benefit of the doubt in understanding that this decision is meant to be inclusive, not exclusive. If you're not sure if this applies to you or would like help phrasing your requests to be more inclusive, please reach out to us. We're happy to help brainstorm alternatives with you.
