Libra - Mirror Mirror on Snow White’s Door 

When Snow White moves into her cottage and finds that she isn’t alone, we are looking at a Libra mind gone a little mad. The 7 dwarfs represent projections of herself, and Libra is the ruler of the 7th house, the reflective and elusive hall of mirrors. She thinks other people are threatening, or rejecting, or beautiful, and yet these are figments of her own essence revealing themselves in the outer world because she doesn’t know these feelings belong to her. The Evil Queen stands before the enchanted mirror and asks who is the fairest of them all, interesting because The Venus glyph displays the image of a handheld mirror. And sometimes the Libra looks into the mirror expecting an answer, because the person standing there can seem like such a mystery. The Queen and Libra’s own experience demonstrate the danger of the Libra mirror and its tendency seduce vanity and dilute identity. The dwarves were another feature of this mirror, and the 7 emotions and characteristics on display. Snow White was a Libra who did not know how to accept her happiness (Happy), was ashamed at her bashfulness (Bashful), embarrassed by her bodily functions like sneezing (Sneezy), suppressed her grumpy moods (Grumpy), distances herself from her dreamy sleepy state (Sleepy), was humiliated by her momentary airy dazes (Dopey), and fears harnessing her leadership (Doc). These sensations, qualities, and emotions that are inherent to her nature become features on the faces around her. And the Libra’s urgency is to create union and relationship, unbeknown that she is forming these relationships with herself. Libra is socially consuming because she must observe these qualities in other people before she recognises them in herself. Until then, there is the feeling of quicksand in her being, a lack of internal continuum and structure that can make her directionless and fearful. In no real direction she spins deliriously, meeting different dwarves everyday, operating without true value. But Snow White was beautiful because she knew how to love. This capacity to love is what truly enraged the Evil Queen. This is why she demanded Snow’s heart, and this is the only constant in Libra, the pure frequency of love, the heart they have inherited from Venus. In the Queen’s mirror, Snow White reflected the qualities of love, generosity, and sweetness that she had banished from her being, the very quality of Libra.

the zodiac has many categories within it. triplicities (the modalities) and quadruplicities (the elements) are popularly understood, as any combination of one modality and one element is matched to exactly one sign. (e.g. ‘fixed water’ = scorpio, ‘cardinal earth’ = capricorn) 

but there is another dimension to the signs that divides them again into three parts. the zodiac is a progression, from aries to pisces. the signs represent a narrative of maturation and evolution. and each set of four signs can represent a component of freud’s structural model of the psyche; id, ego, and superego. 

Firstly we have the “personal signs”, which correspond to id. These signs (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer) are primarily motivated by impulse and instinct. These archetypes ultimate goal is satisfaction for their basic needs and desires. This stage of the cycle represents the mind in its infancy, irrational, pleasure-seeking, and amoral. 

The ego of the zodiac is the “relational signs”; Leo, Virgo, Libra, and Scorpio. The primary motivations for the relational signs are self-esteem and validation. These signs are attentive to the way the world around them responds to their behavior. They crave approval and praise. In this stage we see the value of knowing how to perform, compromise, negotiate, and manipulate. Volatile and self-conscious, these signs stand for adolescence and young adulthood.

Lastly we reach the highest echelon of the zodiac, the “universal signs”; Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. As the superego of the zodiac, these signs are primarily motivated by a desire to do what is absolutely right. Key values are morality, ethics, wisdom, truth. They carry the burden of feeling accountable for the whole of society and are not easily swayed by whims or by the ego. Developed and responsible, this stage of the zodiac symbolizes old age.

Utopias (Part 4)

Capricorn: Built up buildings, a big city, classy and simplistic design. Everyone progresses here, advances, creates personal ambitions along with shared ones. Hard work is a virtue, but so is being supportive and stable, extending a hand to those that need advice and solid method. Everyone walks with an air if dignity, but followed closely by a sarcastic grin and shining smile should someone break the poised pace.

Aquarius: A place of technology, pointing to the future, like a cross between a built up city and a science lab. If cars will one day fly, here will be the place to have them first. Can be overwhelming on a first visit, not knowing how anything works, but the fascination is more than enough compensation. The people here are odd and eccentric, but also speak with such interest and offbeat passion that it is infectious.

Pisces: Misty, iridescent, reflective, one colour seems to blend into another, can be confusing for the senses upon first visiting, but there is a point where it becomes easier to acclimatise. The floor doesn’t feel solid, like you could fall right through, but if you concentrate hard enough, you see the streams pass through, pretty rainbow lights dancing on the water. Everyone walks with a sleepiness here, takes time to gather how they feel.

The Moon burned as vibrant as a child’s laughter, where for every quench, a match struck once more.

The Moon is considered to be sensitive in this placement, despite the often brash and bold expression of emotions due to the quick responses that those with the Moon in Aries feel, where even nuance and small disruptions can leave them feeling uncomfortable or irritable, much like that of a child.

Emotions are curious little things for the Lunar Gemini, like wisps of the unconscious floating by. They can feel like detached bystanders to them, where completely involuntarily they cannot always find a connection with their own emotional reactions.

Probably one of the biggest arguments I see being used against astrology is the Barnum effect. Basically, it’s an effect that states that people are naturally inclined to believe in general, vague descriptions that can apply to everyone.

The people who make this argument get so smug because they think, “It’s true, the astrological descriptions are all so vague and applicable to everyone, so therefore, it’s bullshit!” when really, they don’t know what they’re talking about.

If you look at your natal chart, you’ll see that all of the signs are present. You are supposed to feel all of the signs resonating within you. When you read those vague Sun sign descriptions, they should ideally resonate somehow in some way. If you don’t, you have an interception, and interceptions can feel quite painful for anyone who has one in their natal chart since it shows an imbalance of the signs.

The people who make this argument also argue on the assumption that astrology was supposed to be extremely accurate, in an objective sense. What these skeptics don’t realize is that astrology is a subjective subject, and that accuracy, or the truth is truly a subjective idea when humans have different biases and perceptions due to their complexities. If accuracy was so objective, why do people still have arguments to this day? If accuracy, or the truth, was so objective, wouldn’t everybody know about it to where no conflicts would occur? Of course, this wouldn’t happen because the subjectivity of the truth is connected to our uniqueness as an individual.

Astrology was not and will never be an objective subject in its essence. If astrology was objective at all, it would be for the sake of existing and mental understanding. After all, you can’t objectify the human personality, and people who generally take an objective stance will struggle to understand that.

Astrology isn’t vague because it’s inaccurate, it’s vague because it takes the essence of life into account. Astrology is a subject that realizes that random circumstances, environments, and events all come into play when it comes to the individual. Take the variables away, and you’ll see a warped, incorrect picture of life.

There’s a reason why Scorpio is a fixed sign, and there’s also reasons why people tend to question how Scorpio is fixed at all. Scorpio however, will always be a fixed sign.

The questioning usually starts due to the planets ruling Scorpio. When people think of the fixed modality, they tend to think of keeping something stable, calm, or static, which is the technical definition of being fixed. However, Scorpio shows that you don’t always have to try to be comfortable and safe to feel stable with yourself. Scorpio actually proposes the opposite: you can gain stability and fixation by being doing the counterintuitive - being volatile and extreme. It implies that sometimes, in order to be truly maintain stability, you must go out of the comfort zone to get it. This is explained through Mars traditionally ruling over Scorpio. Mars always presents an energetic, argumentative energy that goes against the nature of staying unchangeable. That’s why Scorpio is always seen to be a polarizing sign, but that’s not the only place where Scorpio’s extreme nature comes from.

Pluto is the other reason why people can question Scorpio’s fixed modality. Pluto represents transformations, which is an impactful change. When placed next to each other, what Pluto represents also contradicts with the fixed modality. It almost seems that Scorpio is too dynamic to be a fixed sign, when really, Scorpio uses change to maintain stability. You may ask why Scorpio would want to be stable in the first place.

Scorpio wants to be stable so that it can stabilize the inner chaos it has inside itself. After all, stability is the core principle that holds Taurus and Scorpio together as sister signs. Stability and control is what gives Scorpio’s seemingly dangerous volatile nature a sense of direction. Without the idea of stability, Scorpio would truly be a sign of disorganized chaos… But Scorpio is not. Scorpio represents organized chaos. After all, you never see a Scorpio lose its composure in public, since it is good at keeping a scarily calm demeanor. Scorpio will also fix itself on something powerful, but tangible to keep themselves together. This is why Scorpio is known to keep secrets.

The fact that Scorpio is also a water sign also explains its fixed modality. Emotions is the main medium used by the water signs, and emotions are quite fleeting, dynamic, unstable, and irrational at times. Naturally, emotions are preferably (but not always!) hidden for the water signs, and for Scorpio, it keeps its emotions hidden to keep itself in line.

Libra is the cosmic energy of justice and associates with morality, righteousness, and objectivity. Revered in both myth and material, the judge is an esteemed member of society, capable of generating law bound by conscious impartiality and morale. On a shaking tightrope, the Libra is constantly striving for balance, easily shaken by a hidden sensitivity and sharp intellect. There is a natural diplomacy the Libra thought process follows, constantly integrating multiple perspectives and attempting to find the neutral mid point. This can be maddening and chaotic inside for the Libra, where they are forced to insert incredible judgment amongst conscience and concern. Libra and the 7th house rules the lower court, legislation, and legality. Saturn exalts in Libra, and Saturn governs all forms of Karmic Law, authority, justice, and diplomacy. These domains of life express cohesively in the Libra archetype.

Libra self mediates with highly developed righteousness. And Libra is an incredible dreamer, but intense psychological precision must be inserted into every decision or judgment. The use of justice systems, contracts, and law provides the social cohesion and bliss Libra envisages, because equality and virtue becomes rule. Libra is not where law becomes corrupt or amoral. Libra is the purest expression of bringing oppositions into balance, restoring inequality, and maintaining peace through divisions of principles. They retain all the cheques and balances in order and reins in the laws upon which civilised society conducts itself. The function of the Scales is to balance the ‘system’. The Egyptians saw the sacred Scale of Ma’at. Ma’at as the goddess of balance, justice, truth, and order. It was She who kept the universe from drifting into chaos. At death, a human’s heart was measured on Her scales against a feather. This determined if the individual had lived harmoniously with natural laws and could move on to the next realm. Souls too heavy were immediately devoured by demons. The responsibility of Ma’at expresses through Libra, who upholds this grand cosmic duty with grace. Libras conceive the undercurrent of universal justice and recite this through thought and action. 

Libras do not believe that calling out inequality or sexism makes one a victim, but is rather empowering and declaring of social destruction. The young Libra can live in an unruly world of wild oppositions in which they swing wildly between. The scales come into balance with age, experience, self reflection, and developing a sense of proportion with the use of discrimination and judgment. When the scales are not balanced, the Libra can become heavy hearted, reactive, vulnerable, sad, and lonely, while the mind is in high, chaotic flight. Intuition must be weighed with intellect to bring pure morale, retribution and righteous answers to light. There is a sensual nature of Venus that glosses the airy Libra mind, it gives Libras an ability to see a beautiful or reformed society that they promote with natural law. The Libra scales tend to tip on the side of other and away from the self, expressing their devotion to people and decency. As God’s appointed judge of the cosmos, in divine eyes Libra is forever your honour.
