I see Goth is trending on this here site right now so I'm just going to take this opportunity to say HELLO from one of your friendly neighborhood Elder Goths (I'm 44). HI FOLKS! I'm a writer, actress and ghost tour guide! I welcome all Goth styles, shapes and sizes, Goth does NOT have to be expensive (just look for black things at thrift stores & on clearance racks like I do then mix/match), I welcome all baby bats and new Goths into our collective black-clad fold, we love you! And always remember: punch Nazis. It was a rule of all my favorite Goth clubs then and now.

🕸️🕸️🕸️Goth dancing (without standing) for my fellow friends with mobility issues. 🕸️🕸️🕸️

🦇 tis in the hands and the face that thou art to make most of thy movements. The formula to goth dancing I find is this:

Flowery hand movements + dejected slumping + brooding to the beat of the music = goth

• using thy face is key, turning thy head away then turning back and widening thine eyes suddenly. I would also work on thy spoOooOoKy broOoOooOding face. No goth should ever leave the house without it! My what if thou art in need of a sultry brooding session but thou hath forgotten thy brooding face at home! Woe!

• hand movements often are to do with mimicking certain actions, then flowing into other dance steps while complimenting the movement using other movements and facial expression. Some examples include;

🕷️the tea Tis mine!! All mine!!:

imagine thou art offering tea to another, stretch it out towards them then suddenly pull it back towards thee because they are not worthy of thy tea

🕷️Tis a cat

Imagine thou art holding and stroking a cat or any other animal of thy choosing. Do so to the beat of the music and making much flourishing with thy hands and be sure to glare at everything around thee.

🕷️bone chilling hands

Shake thy hands beside thee like thou art trying to dry them, gradually moving them up towards the top of thy body

🕷️the swoon and bow

Making perhaps a swooning gesture or bowing, throwing thy body or head forward if thou art able does add quite the Victorian melodrama if it art thine tune.

🕷️picking devil fruit

Imagine thou art picking fruit. Do so with a wondered facial expression. Tis vital for this step to use thy face. Stare at the fruits above thee with fascination and slowly pluck the fruits.

🕷️shimmy shimmy shimmy shimmy shimmy x16

Disorderly, careless and chaotic movement such as throwing thy hands about and doing a spooky little shimmy can go a long way I tell thee!!

🕷️I am the goth I speak for the trees

Moving and swaying thine body like a tree and waving about thy arms. OOoOooOh I art spoOooOky Lorax and I speak for the spOooOoKy treees.

🕷️flutterflies

Making a bird shape with thy hands or other fluttering motions with an expression of wonderment

🕷️shoo the bats

Imagine thou art shooing bats away from thee. This can be done as aggressively as thou does wish.

🕷️oOoOh I art spooky and summoning

Raise thy hands in a summoning motion look towards the sky and move side to side. Channel thy inner witch in ye olde painting running around shirtless and summoning the devil.

Tips:

• if thou can, I recomend thee to throw about thy hair a lot, perhaps make thy hands into a claw shape as you move about or wear some dramatic sleeves or other article of clothing to flair about

• goth dancing is all about expression in its most natural form, whatever thy body art capable of is enough. However it is thou chooses to dance to goth music is so perfectly good in mine opinion.

• my most adored bands to dance to are Lebanon hangover, clan of xymox, the cramps, selofan, this cold night and Cocteau twins.

• tweak these suggestions to thine own body, adjust depending on thy needs. Remember to be safe and to treat thy body kindly.
