Live as if already free
Graeber said and wrote
“Live as if you’re already free”
and so I woke up and I texted you and did the dishes
“Its been way too long and seeing you, it always feels like coming home”
I’ve said it many times before, I wasn’t made to work and die, I was made to live and lie in silken sheets
To love communally, to tend to hearths and hearts and on the bleakest days I place my faith in this
“Who does the dishes” they asked like sealions “after the revolution?”
“Who builds the phones, who puts the work in?” and I think to myself that we already do
We already do and all thats different is the boots upon our back
So like the people always have
Since times unknown and unrecorded
I yearn, I long, I hope strategically
Your voice on my headphones lasts me for days
Your hands placed on my waist last me for weeks The thought alone that we are meant to be will outlast all
Live as if we’re already free, build community, build care
Build love and hope, and unconditional support
Build a world worth living in among the ashes of the old
It struggles to be born and now are times of holding on
So please hold on
For brighter days have need of you

Author Bio ~
Hi! I figure I should get back onto Writeblr now that I'm going to be a published author. :D
I'm Lee Ann Kostempski, an anarchist writer who specializes primarily in dark fantasy and horror, though I like to experiment in many genres. I'm also a librarian. Common themes in my writing include:
utopia
class struggle
disability
gender
sexuality
My biggest influences are Ursula K. Le Guin, adrienne maree brown, Mona Awad, and Margaret Killjoy.
I have one published short story and one published novella! You can read the short story, LIKE IT'S A MAD THING, here in the Spring 2020 issue of 34 Orchard for free (trigger warnings: sexism, depression, supernatural horror, gore/body horror). You can buy the novella, THE WORLD AS IT SHOULD BE, here on the Mocha Memoir Press website or on Amazon in print or Kindle format; (trigger warnings: suicidal intent, depression, gore/torture, supernatural horror).
Contact info, links, & more about my current WIPs under the cut! :)
Current projects include:
DEATH & TAXES -- a trilogy retelling the legend of Robin Hood from Maid Marian's point of view, with a dark twist (rough draft);
PARASOCIAL -- a horror novella about celebrities and fan culture taken too far (rough draft);
FOR THE LOVE OF THE LIBRARY -- a departure from my usual genres, this one's a YA coming-of-age story about a senior in high school fighting to save her public library's Teen Section from budget cuts (rough draft; I plan to post this for free on Wattpad when it's complete);
SOULROT LULLABY -- a short cli-fi horror story about an Earthling forced to team up with a descendent of the wealthy humans who fled to Mars against an unexpected threat (completed & currently seeking a home for publication).
[CURRENTLY UNTITLED] -- a potential sequel to THE WORLD AS IT SHOULD BE following a disabled protagonist who flees life with the witch hunters when she realizes they would sooner kill her than protect her, and seeks shelter with witches (outlining).
I also occasionally write fanfiction over on Ao3, and poetry, which I typically post on my Wordpress unless I want to publish it.
You can find me on Instagram and Facebook as well.

"Creatives deserve to be paid" and "We desperately need community spaces for creatives that aren't focused on trying to make money or advance careers where we're allowed to make connections and experiment" are two statements that can and should coexist.

What ppl don’t say about being intelligent or multitalented is that you have to hide your skills so others don’t feel insulted, humiliated, or feel like you’re making fun of them for not having the same abilities as you, human beings like to compete between them, and if they find someone who excels at something, the first thought they’ll have is to find a way to exclude that person, so the talented in question doesn’t “steal” the attention from them, so they can be recognized, they’ll find a way to ridicule the “talented one” so others will believe it’s not that brilliant, humans work by ego, and ego also destroys them, destroys the society, and nowadays society is based in capitalism, the capitalism needs this type of behavior to keep humans away from each other, so they don’t work together to destroy it, so humans will always be slaves ‘cause they’re addicted to recognition and instant gratification and individualism will always be attacked ‘cause it’s a form of freedom, and there’s nothing big companies and their bosses hate more than freedom and a mind clear from poison, so if you’re intelligent, talented, whatever word you want to use for it, don’t make yourself little just because everyone laughs at you, if you have an idea that seems crazy for this world, it’s because this world is rotten, not because you’re wrong, keep being free

One of the main outcomes of cancel culture is the realization that we need a healthy and accurate “court of public opinion.” Between locking someone up and letting them go scott free, people collectively need to be able to analyze a situation and determine, drawing on knowledge of abuse, psychology, and emotional intelligence, who is really in the wrong and to what degree; what likely happened; and what a just punishment (if deserved) should be. To what extent should this person’s reputation be impugned?
In short, the mob needs to mature. To learn how to think. So that at last it can start to govern itself.
Without being derailed by obvious narcissism, immature judgement, etc.
Fortunately, this seems to be happening.

Dead Philosophers
You used to sit and tell me about revolution Class war and how you always shout, "fuck the bourgeois!" Claiming the works of dead philosophers as your own Mouth agape, the words of Jim Jones and pull string dolls But you knew And you swore to me you were going to change the world
You'd sit for hours and talk about the plans The ones you stayed up all night figuring And it seems that maybe you do have this all figured out Right down to how we'll cook the rich when it's time to eat them Poetic imagery spilling form a silver tongue And you call me the class traitor I'll accept the role
because you're goddamn right I am.
I know what I am. I know exactly what I am.
But you don't. You took the words of Proudhon and Goldman and Godwin And that's become your identity now And you call for civil war in between all these stupid factions Putting Anarcho in front of anything just in case the cool kids are looking this way
You say all of this, of your going to topple the patriarchy and your going to eat the rich You give you twisted history of anarchism And if that's what anarchy looks like, than I want no part.
You say all these words. Over mimosas and fruit As you've dragged me to brunch and a bunch of wasps are staring at my hair

Maybe I really can change the world just by writing my silly little stories. Maybe just by observing things and writing them down I can change how people see things. Maybe I can make art that touches people’s very souls because I made it because I wanted to. Maybe I am making a difference and I just don’t know it yet

Alright. Gonna set down the feed and plug the thing.
New year, new habits!
I write this travesty!
The site is in constant need of repair, so are the characters, and so is the author (me). Part 1 is steampunk, and in Part 2 we've gone diesel. It starts with a hate crime, this is not for the faint of heart, but it does get quite funny in places. The absurdity is a coping mechanism!
I've got to break my website later so I can try to fix it, but there's a new instalment this week so I'll give people time to read that, if there's any takers!
Known Readers: 2 (hi 5th and Kith!); 1st Goalpost: 10?
If you're reading, check in with me. My hit counter is buggy AF and I moved the comments offsite, to Tumblr. I won't know you're there if you don't say hi!
Known Supporters: I'm burning my Patreon to the ground because they annoyed me, give me some time to set up someplace else! 1st Goalpost: 5?
If you WANT to support, go ahead and let me know that too. I'll be working on a subscription basis in the future - you'll only pay when I publish!

If you're an author/writer, a maladaptive daydreamer, alt, a cosplayer, into DnD/Roleplay, enjoy fantastical fashion, or generally just have a love for fantasy fiction... you HAVE to attend a Renaissance Faire at least once in your life.
I'm most of the above and it was an amazing experience for me. Entirely liberating. I forgot my job, my disorders, my responsibilities. Completely tossed aside my stress for an entire day. There were freaks everywhere; unusual humans of every lovely variety. My friends and I met so many great people. Anti-facists, anarchists, goths, punks...
I'm from a small town and know next to no alternative people. The X's on my gloves, safety pins, the yellow laces on my docs- people don't understand it. There I was able to speak the lingo and made friends in the process. At one point or another I was offered alcohol by a new acquaintance. Told them I was straight edge. Instead of looking at me weird, they GOT IT. Even apologized and asked if it would be disrespectful for them to drink in front of me. I'll tell ya, punks supporting other punks... nothing better.
It was like coming home.

The Inspiration Behind THE WORLD AS IT SHOULD BE
Cher cannot save everyone, and neither can I. No one can. No single "hero" like Gandalf or Katniss is going to swoop in and magically save us all. And yes, the fascists are currently winning. That doesn't mean it's not worth fighting them.
“Margaret [Killjoy]: I suppose your work does have a fairly dark tone, often very fatalistic or nihilistic. Do you think that mirrors how you see the political situation? Or is it a reflection of something else? [Professor] Calamity: I think the world we live in is pretty bleak (though I am pretty upbeat in person). I’ve always been attracted to characters living in very bleak times, how they’re…

The Ballad of Dogboy
I never wanted this and I never gave my consent to god But I know she doesn't care anyway
I'm so tired.
Every move is energy I just can't create muster up from some reserve tanks but that's all empty now I've got nothing I can really give
Yet find me here, still pushing forward for a cause I no longer believe in But it's the only way I'm social so I'll pretend that circled A isn't over rated And that that black flag you're flying isn't cliche
Shouting slogans with picket signs Goddammit, you promised me a riot not a picket line, with picket signs, a picket fence and all the rest
I say Molotov you say I'm a cop and I laugh in your stupid pale face Your 24 years old, with a comb over and a dog collar around your neck
The big ballad of Dogboy and the kennel club' Your going to end up just like your heroes washed up and still grasping at strings that aren't there You just muscle memory, and your hand is bouncing all the time
You pulled me in, you made that choice and then you get upset when I actually want to bring it to the streets I don't want to go for a walk around the block I want to throw a nice red beak through the plate glass of a Starbucks Was I the quickest regret you ever did have?
This the ballad of Dogboy and his kennel club Faces shoved deeply into their food bowls filled with false social justice and selfish morals They don't know I've poisoned the water and I watch their tongues lick it up, splashing the floor still singing the ballad of Dogboy and the kennel club
I told you someday I'd be back, and I'd be back for you
