the disconnect between actions and repercussions that results from fame amount is just horrible
like famous people both get hated and can levy hate way more than those in the lonely cracks and fissures of the internet
i think it's partially caused by the design of social media sites being guided primarily by capital, and like social "capital" and financial capital seem very similar in how they work (and ofc they can create eachother)
kinda glad i'm not famous and most likely never will be anywhere close to that, since both the responsibility of not like stochastically or whtv causing my observers to do horrible things, and also the amount of hate and generally nonconstructive criticism i'd get (especially if i do sumn wrong) just seem unhandleable
#rambles#idk might as well tag â#cancel culture#this was incited by the iskall (mcyt) situation but not specifically about that#and you dont have to know anything about that to understand this post fully#also not taking any sides in any specific situations. nor is this about saying that the famous shouldnt have the responsibilities above#should i tag this with the iskall and mcyt and hermitcraft stuff? eh idk... maybs...#(a few mins later) nahh but i will tag this ig â#anticapitalista#anti capitalism#someone recommend like. anything regarding this idea of âsocial capitalâ if anyone knows anything. like books or essays or video essays

rereading the og LO pisses me off bc why did Hestia take Koreâs coat??!! The Minthe plant situation, but as a side note Eros + Psyche was such a beautiful story in the beginning. Also do you plan on giving Hermes a partner?
OH so that's actually sorta explained in the physical books, there's a bonus chapter in Volume 2 that tries to make sense of it.
Frankly, like most of the bonus episodes, it doesn't really do a good job of filling in plotholes or logical inconsistencies, for a few reasons:
1.) I think it's wild that this episode was supposed to explain Hestia's cruelty in taking the coat (Rachel even addresses this in the author's note leading into the episode) but then Hestia is still kind of an irresponsible asshole when she just IMMEDIATELY starts infodumping to Apollo, completely unprompted, about how Persephone is the newest initiate in her virgin club. Like it's just bad writing for starters because it's clear Rachel's just trying to get the 'plot' of the episode rolling, but it's also like... wasn't this group supposed to be about protecting women from men? Why is she volunteering that information so enthusiastically? đ I get it's kind of a nitpick but it still kind of made me go "huh???" because it's frankly just none of Apollo's business as both a man and a non-member and there's just zero reason why Hestia should be releasing that kind of information publicly, especially when it's regarding such a sensitive and personal topic like virginity. Like was there seriously NO BETTER WAY for someone as "conniving" as Apollo to find out this info?? He didn't even intimidate or weasel the info out of her, she just started fucking spilling on her own đđ
2.) I don't know why Hestia just immediately took Apollo's word on what he "saw" and opted to go along with his idea to "punish her" which somehow led to the decision to take the coat. He doesn't specifically say to do that, sure, but it's clear she's taking his word over Persephone's literally IMMEDIATELY when she even says aloud that it's out of character for Persephone, and even after getting Persephone's side of the story in that episode where she confronts her, she still takes the coat ???
This is another one of those "where is the feminism???" issues because even with the bonus episode included all we get is "men are evil and awful!" despite the fact that Hestia is a grown ass woman who should be capable of making her own sound judgments. Like where was Hestia's OWN AGENCY that she could have used to decide Persephone was telling the truth about what really happened ??? It's obviously just another opportunity to villainize Apollo which, sure, okay, he's been established as a scumbag rapist at this point so he's undeniably a villain, but... why is Hestia not listening to Persephone at all? And then if that was supposed to be the point, why wasn't that actually addressed in the comic which was still ongoing at the time? Hestia didn't even have the nerve to bring the coat back to Persephone herself, it was Artemis who returned it to her in the end. So we never even get a proper resolution to Hestia's actions, she never apologizes to Persephone, she never takes accountability for her own mistakes in trusting Persephone's rapist over her (which is unfortunately something that happens a lot in these kinds of situations and would have been great to address in a story that's actually trying to be "feminist") and ultimately she just never grows as a character despite having such a direct impact on the main cast.
3.) What was the point of this bonus chapter, exactly? Like I guess we sorta know why Hestia took the coat now (if we don't take ANY of what I addressed above into account) but it doesn't explain at all why that was the decision, nor does it end up affecting the overall plot because Persephone still winds up working in the Underworld, she still spends a shitload of time with Hades, and Hestia is nowhere to be seen, despite the fact that she knows at this point through Apollo that Persephone has interacted with him. How does smugly taking the coat from a 19 year old girl who was recently force fed alcohol to the point of blacking out and then dumped in Hades' car address the original problem that was brought to her attention via Apollo? Despite the bonus episodes being used as a way to "patch up" holes in the narrative, it still doesn't really explain anything, it kinda just raises more questions than it answers.
(*I'll even add real quick that Rachel's apparent reasoning in her author's notes for these bonus chapters not being included in the comic is often so silly because the comic itself is full of so much pointless filler and nonsense that goes nowhere, while the actual important explanations get shoved into the back end of the physical books. It's incredibly backwards and tells me less that these were "deleted scenes" and more that they were attempts to backtrack on Rachel's own poor writing, with the added benefit of making money off it to boot due to these otherwise essential scenes and bits of information being exclusive to the physical books. Many "bonus episodes" feel more like they should have been in the comic and so many canon episodes that got published feel like they could have been bonus episodes. Again, at best, it's bad writing and bad editing, so much so that apparently even Rachel can't fully stand by her decisions because she can't "decide" if these bonus episodes are canon or not.)
4.) Yet another case of "the worst guy ever just made a good point" because even though Apollo's doing it for nefarious, self-centered reasons, he's not wrong that it was extremely concerning for Persephone to spend the night at Hades' place, and that's made worse by the fact that we know Persephone wound up telling her side of the story just for Hestia to punish her anyways. Unfortunately because Apollo has to be Bryce from 13 Reasons Why, the only angle he's coming at it from is "YEAH YOU BETTER GET REVENGE ON PERSEPHONE FOR DOING THAT!!! SHE'S SUCH A SLUT!!!", but there's a whole other separate angle here that his villainy is distracting us from, an angle that actually WOULD have accomplished the subjects of feminism that LO claimed to be tackling and failed at - why was Persephone put into that situation in the first place?
There's never any real consequence to Eros for intentionally getting Persephone blackout drunk and dumping her in Hades' car. There aren't any real consequences to Aphrodite for targeting a girl who did nothing but exist. There aren't any real consequences to Hades for offending Aphrodite within earshot by comparing her to a 19 year old girl who he just spent several minutes oggling through a window. The only one who's actually allowed to suffer consequences is the easily identifiable rapist character, because anyone who knows what sex is knows that Rape is Bad, but no one actually wants to identify and discuss all the other terrible actions and characters within this story - including the leading man who's supposed to be "perfect" for Persephone - because those actions are a lot more subtle and normalized and aren't capable of being consumed easily within a single tweet.
It's a no-brainer to understand "rape is bad"; it takes a lot more self-reflection and honesty with yourself - especially if you're part of LO's core demographic of both young teenage girls and middle aged women - to recognize that Hades and Persephone's relationship is predatory right from the start, and that being a feminist doesn't mean exclusively caring about 'good' women and punishing the 'bad' ones.
#sorry that turned into an essay LOL it's been a whileee#p.s. idk if Hermes will have a partner by the end of rekindled#this isn't his story LOL but we'll see#anti lore olympus#lore olympus critical#lo critical

â SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 93 AHEAD! â
now that we have finally met demetrius, it seems like a great time to dissect his first scene and proper conversation! :]
his wide, unfocused stare hides â¨unexpected complexityâ¨, as expected of a desmond
he's impatient (common desmond trait at this point)
he's nonchalantly exceptional, as we expected and have been repeatedly told thus far
...but most importantly, amidst a sea of accomplishments, he is burdened with a lack of people skills and visibly frustrated by it, as evidenced by his conversation with damian in this chapter.
the analysis and speculation continues under the cut!!
so, a breakdown of the main meat of his introduction
similarly to every single time there's an interaction between damian and another desmond, damian is the one who reaches out first by calling out to demetrius, who immediately asks him what he wants. damian tries to begin with small talk, congratulating him on his accomplishments of the day
demetrius is brief and to the point, but it doesn't feel to me like he is annoyed here. perhaps curious, perhaps indifferent, we don't know -- demetrius is a boy of few explanatory thoughts, after all
merely in the next page, demetrius is revealed to have a blank mind for most of this conversation.
i don't believe this is a sign that demetrius was experimented on or anything. obviously, this does not rule out that he has been experimented on, but i don't think his lack of thoughts are indicative of that, nor do i believe anya was too far away (in previous chapters, she has read the thoughts of people at greater distances than this with ease!). i think this has something to do with his upbringing, but also very importantly his state of mind at the moment
his eyes are wide open, but his stare is unfocused. i think this is an intentional choice to hammer in that he's not really here at this moment, listening to what is undoubtedly to him pointless praise. he has likely tuned all of it out completely.
(as a side note, if we wanna involve anya in this situation more, we could assume that he is intentionally cloaking his thoughts from anya or any other potential mind-readers, but while i do think donovan is very likely involved in project apple, i severely doubt the financial benefactors of project apple would spend likely a lot of money to figure out a way to shield the thoughts of a middle schooler, regardless of who his dad is, from potential telepaths. as far as we know, anya is the only one with this specific power and demetrius is unlikely to have any information that would incriminate the operation. if that was an issue, i don't see why they wouldn't spend their money to protect melinda's mind, since she likely has way more info than demetrius ever could.)
moving on from that side note though,
we do not see demetrius' face as he says this! this is important to me
we are left unaware to whether or not he is disappointed or just trying to abscond to take a nap (he really needs one)
but then, he says this:
this, to me, is a direct attempt at connecting!! he's trying to reciprocate the small talk, the praise, trying to continue the conversation. his thought, "i don't understand him," may feel contradictory but to me, it only underlines his frustration about this, because he knows what damian is going to say next:
even though it was expected, this is not what demetrius was hoping to get out of this. his downturned eyebrows give a feeling of discontent. he is not blank, he is visibly frustrated, visibly annoyed.
and we are thus made aware of a boundary demetrius and melinda both share:
never mention donovan.
for one reason or another, this is the boundary damian has overstepped with both his mother AND his brother now, without ever being informed that it IS a boundary in the first place
so demetrius, upset, turns around to leave and throws this at damian:
this is important, because damian has shared a very similar sentiment to anya before, albeit in a mournful tone.
demetrius likely feels similarly neglected by his parents, but is long past feeling sad about it. he has moved straight to anger, understandably!
but the bigger reason for his frustration, imo, relates to a problem damian once again ALSO has: people treating them as a gateway to their father and nothing more.
demetrius has more than likely also been treated like this, and probably still is unless his peers have learned not to engage because of his brief, snippy responses, so he is familiar with the feeling of being used.
...and damian unknowingly treated him the exact same way, even though he's also grown to hate it.
of course, he's 6 years old and he meant no harm by this -- he's just a lonely boy trying to be noticed by his neglectful parents, after all, what else could he possibly do?
but for demetrius, this is the end of the conversation. he is not his father's manager, he's not even that close to him, so why does his brother only ever talk to him when it relates to their father?
as he said before: he doesn't understand him, and why he keeps doing this. does he not know there is little info to be gained?
he doesn't understand their father either, with his impossibly high expectations, never pleased, never happy, never available
and lastly, as ewen and emile try to introduce themselves
demetrius has one final thought.
and he casts aside this entire conversation, leaving the scene as empty as he entered it.
of course, the chapter doesn't end here, but this is where demetrius' involvement in it does, leaving us with a newfound understanding that while to damian, demetrius represents everything he can only strive to become... to demetrius? his accomplishments ring hollow in the face of everything he wishes he could understand.
we do get an extra flashback that hearkens back to a better yesterday, but while donovan is lacking some very important details (those scars, that dead disinterest that follows his every move -- he seems mirthful somehow here), we don't know if this scene represents a time when they were closer or if it's simply evidence that as far back as everyone can remember, demetrius has been doing nothing but studying all the time
could this be evidence of something nefarious relating to project apple? eh, not particularly, not to me. the boy's just studying hard, any relation to project apple would have to be more recent in the timeline imo
TL;DR:
demetrius has been built up throughout the past 92 chapters as a figure larger-than-life, and this has been thanks to most of our knowledge of him being directly affected by damian's perception of him, as the younger brother living under his shadow
however, he has now been humanized by his flaws: a short temper and a lack of social skills that comes paired with a clear want to connect, to understand, to converse. he seems to be a very lonely kid, everyone around him either jealous, putting him on a pedestal or actively seeking to use him under the false impression that he has important connections, and although he doesn't mean to, damian has unknowingly been treating demetrius in the same way, only seeking him out when he wants to know something about donovan.
interestingly, him and melinda share the same trigger, that being donovan himself, though we do not yet know if their reason for this is also shared.

the best traits of your future lover đđ
⢠pile one â˘
your person knows how to let go of endings. theyâre not the type to hold onto connections with people and situations that are clearly already dead. they know how to accept death moments, mourn the permanent endings, and keep it pushing. iâm also seeing that theyâre not someone who forgets about someone in particular whoâve passed away. they make time to go and visit the gravesite of whoever this person is, putting down flowers, ensuring that their grave is kept up to par, etc. this person has A LOT of self love. theyâre one of the few people who can say that they genuinely love themselves and this is shown through how they treat themselves. how they dress themselves, how they take care of themselves, how comfortable and happy they are in their own energy. they also know how to accept and let go of any character traits or behaviours that no longer serve them. they donât find it difficult to do that at all. they radiate self love and self respect and this is clearly seen by just looking at them. they donât allow themselves to be trapped or bound by anyone or anything either. this person isnât someone who listens to other peopleâs orders if they donât see the point in them, and this is a great thing because itâs also a sign of their self respect. they go their own way. especially in terms of societal expectations of them. they donât listen to most of them because it doesnât serve them - nor does it make much sense to follow these things. they honour themselves the most, so therefore theyâre not going to agree to anything that goes against that.
they love the summer too. this is when theyâre the happiest. the sun is something thatâs vital to their well-being, so this may be the type of person who loves to go on holiday to hot places when the weather gets cold in their home-country. this person is a breath of fresh air. they love to be joyful and happy. even in sad times. and this isnât denial of their sadness or negative feelings. this is the ability to see both sides of most situations that they find themselves in. they stand out for this too. i donât think that you wouldâve met anyone who radiated such vibrant energy as much as this person does. theyâre someone who respects all aspects of life. the perceivably good and bad. they know how to accept anything that comes their way and find the lesson within these situations. theyâre someone whoâs just highly respectful too. because they know that theyâre deserving of respect themselves, so they apply that to everyone else - unless someone does something that makes them feel otherwise. as much as they know how to live life to the fullest and they love to project their energy outwards to make themselves and others happy, they also know when itâs time to go within and hibernate. to do some introspection when they find themselves being bound by a thought process or self-limiting belief within themselves. they know how to allow these blockages to die off, but they still respect the fact that theyâre there and they use them as material to project themselves further in life than before.

⢠pile two â˘
the first card that has come out is âsexualityâ. so this person is very sexual. but iâm hearing responsible. they donât play about safety, protection - all of that stuff. sexual energy is also creative energy, so they know how to transmute this into energy that they can use to build. their sexual energy is hidden for only those who they allow into it. theyâre very picky about who they accept when it comes to anything sexual. as physically attractive as they are, itâs really not easy to get into bed with them. they have specific standards that they abide by. standards that are centred around emotions too. this is someone who needs an emotional connection with someone before theyâre even open to sleeping with someone. they know that their body is sacred and they canât be just mixing their energy with anybody and everybody. their sexuality is very sacred to them. this person could also have a beard. a very thick and full one. maybe even long too. maybe thatâs a turn on for some of you? idk đ theyâre also someone who refuses to feel sorry for themselves. you wonât find them playing a small violin and indulging in self-pity. they use upsetting moments to teach themselves something. they learn a lot from situations that theyâre victimised in by taking time out to rest and reflect on them; how they got into that situation in the first place, the part that they played, etc. iâm picking up on some sagittarius energy here. everything is taken as a lesson to learn by them.
thereâs also a lot of patience that this person has. they understand that itâs a virtue thatâs extremely valuable if they want to manifest something in stable ground. this applies to their goals and aspirations, friendships and relationships, self development. this isnât someone whoâs just willing to rush into milestones in any area of their life. they take things one step at a time to get a well-rounded view of people + situations. this is how they learn as much as they can about the person or thing that theyâre getting involved with. theyâre not reckless. this person is very prosperous thanks to this. they know how to move in life for the best results. they know how to plant seeds, take the time to nurture them, and leave them to do their thing so that they can yield the best crops for them. this person is also financially prosperous too, but this has taken a lot of time and determination to achieve. side note: this person could love carbs. i feel like thatâs their weakness in terms of food đ same tbh. theyâre also extremely protective of what and who they value. they act like some type of guardian for the people they care about. always on the look out for toads who shouldnât be around their loved ones lmao. they always keep a watchful eye of the people closest to them - not in a smothering way, but in a âiâll let you do your thing, but iâm still going to overwatch to make sure that i notice anything to keep you safe fromâ type of way. this person is very respectful. respectful of people and their time. of their boundaries. but theyâre still gonna be watching over you lmao. coming through like a protective parent đđđ
patreon
⢠pile three â˘
this person knows how to let their demons go. anything that haunts them from their past is something that they lay to rest. when situations are dead and buried, they accept it, deal with it, and let it go. especially anything related to their values, priorities, and beliefs that cause them to self-sabotage. i feel like this person has a history of extremely self-sabotaging behaviour but they know how to release the demons that haunt them. the same ones that cause them to hate themselves at times. theyâre adamant on working on their self esteem. they realise when theyâre thriving on sabotaging themselves and cut that shit out. they know exactly how to heal themselves once their consciousness makes them aware of fragmented aspects of themselves. theyâre very big on healing. they know how to transmute their mindset and their perspective. they know how to choose what they allow to enter and rest in their mind. the rest is what they let go of. they find a lot of self empowerment in healing themselves. and they heal through constantly trying to expand their consciousness of themselves. especially the dark parts of their mind and their ego. this means that this person is extremely persistent at doing shadow work. i feel like this person has a very troubled past. a tortured soul in this lifetime. but they donât allow themselves to succumb to it. they transmute all of that pain and heal it. they could even heal others whoâve experienced the same or similar things as them. theyâre driven by this.
the âdedicationâ card has literally come out. this person is so dedicated at transforming themselves from who they were in the past. theyâre a fighter and they donât give up. at all. theyâre aware that they have all of the tools that they need in order to do this. and anything that they realise isnât a tool for the betterment of themselves is something that they dispose of. for some of you, this person could use spirituality or occultism as a way of doing this. and if so, theyâre very dedicated to up keeping their altar and giving offerings to the gods + goddesses that they worship. iâm hearing that they use their own demons in their energy work a lot of the time. instead of allowing these energies to control them, they ensure that theyâre the ones in control of them. they have extremely strong boundaries - especially with substances. so, for example, this person could either not drink at all and be very strict with that, or they drink but theyâre strict with the amount of alcohol that they consume. these boundaries could apply to anything. but these boundaries allow them to keep a very clear mind. again, theyâre focused and dedicated to what serves them only. theyâre also quite direct in vocalising their boundaries. theyâre not afraid to speak up for themselves as a way of protecting themselves and their well-being. this person could definitely use divination as a form of guidance for their healing. but even if they donât, they know how to find symbolism in their daily life to guide them to the right path. this person is highly connected to spirit because theyâre very connected to their higher self. this person is also a healer through their own guidance that they give to others because theyâve been through a lot of shit. they know exactly what people need to hear to get them closer to being on the right track. theyâre able to see higher perspectives of themselves and their life as a way of navigating it as best as possible.

⢠pile four â˘
one of their best traits is their ability to alchemise. the power and knowledge that they hold regarding how energy works and what type of energy to mix together for amazing outcomes. they know how to see value in the smallest of things and how to flip that into something of higher value for themselves. just like pile three, they know how to alchemise their self sabotage into something that they can use for better. they can see value even in their self-sabotaging behaviour, as odd as that may sound. this pile is so similar to pile three. one of this personâs best traits is their ability to heal. itâs like even in the middle of self sabotage, they heal. everything is part of their healing journey - both positively and negatively. i was feeling scorpio/prominent pluto energy in pile three but in this pile itâs even stronger. this person is the definition of tearing yourself down to build yourself back up again. they alchemise in the middle of negativity (which is plutonic energy through and through). they know how to see the light in the darkest of moments. and that light is what they use to create in the middle of chaos. itâs almost like this person practices the strongest type of chaos magick - whether this is consciously or not.
they create a whole new energy out of negativity. they find a way to a new path in the middle of the darkest environment possible. and their mind is being highlighted as the dark environment that they often find themselves in. they donât see this as a negative though. they see this as a challenge. darkness that they have to sift through to find valuable treasure to add value to their life. despite all of this, this person is extremely emotionally fulfilled. they find a lot of fulfilment in connections and in improving themselves for the sake of the people who theyâre connected to. they know that if theyâre not stable, they canât build anything stable with anyone else. they use their connections to find their best source of energy, and i feel like they find a lot of enlightenment from others too. they low-key love negative energy. but not in the sense of causing it for the sake of feeding off of it. if they find themselves in a negative situation or a negative headspace, they take it as a sign that theyâre going to come across a breakthrough if theyâre able to find it. and that just means more self empowerment and a higher vibration, from their perspective. theyâve befriended their shadow. their shadow is like their best friend. and they work alongside it everyday so that their shadow doesnât take over and destroy everything. their self-sabotage is almost controlled. they allow their shadow to be present in a very controlled way because they learn so much from it. they figure themselves out best through this part of themselves while simultaneously bringing healing to it.

Honestly it annoys me how both the show and the fandom treat Angel dustâs situation like a typical abusive boyfriend and not literal sexual slavery. His trauma is too fantastical to be written in a way where the only way to cope with your abuse is by not crying about your pain and confronting your abusers
If you want to know more specific rewrite ideas, this sort of Ask is how you get me off my soap box and more into the creative aspect of the story.
The issue with the contracts is a serious world-building flaw. Based on the Rosie and Alastor leak, there is no way to end a contract, making the theme about consent entirely moot. The other aspect of Angel Dust's contract is how it doesn't really have any clear payout for him. It seems like he just handed himself over to Valentino with no expectation as to what he was supposed to get in return.
I personally would have made the contracts more like real contracts. Each party offers something in return for something else, and either side can renege if their terms are not met.
Taking Alastor for example, since we have an idea of what he was supposed to get in return for his soul. He gets to be the most powerful Sinner in Hell, but only if he does what Rosie wants. If he acts out of Rosie's best interest, she can return his soul and take back the powers she gave him. On the other hand, Alastor could also tell Rosie that she isn't meeting his expectations and take his soul back, knowing he will lose the powers she bequeathed him in the process.
That means Valentino must have offered something to Angel Dust in exchange for Angel's soul, but we have no idea what that could even be, and the show really wants it to be that AD needs to be rescued.
And that's something we see in all the "contracts between Helluva and Hazbin: one party has no say in the contract. Blitz isn't the one who proposed sex for the book, nor did he have the opportunity to barter the agreement. All he could do, all the situation allowed for him to do, was agree. Because he doesn't just need to have sex with Stolas, he also has to return the book.
Blitz is the one who has the book currently. The ball should be in his court about whether or not he even accepts Stolas' offer. It doesn't play out that way because Stolas can just kill him with a look. There is no ability to barter here and that's why the deal is only able to be seen as coercive.
In terms of the Sinners, Valentino cannot die any more than Angel Dust can. So there is legitimately equal footing under the idea of the contract. And even if Valentino is an Overlord, that doesn't really mean anything to us. Maybe the show will add to their classification, but the main point is that, Overlord or not, Angel Dust should have agreed to receive something back in exchange for his soul. And whether that exchange is fulfilled or not, desired or not, should be fluid enough that either party has the opportunity to break that contract.

Time for another dive into the code! This time we're doing Warm, Moderate, and Cold Cove again, but for the transition between Step 2 to 3 instead of 1 to 2.
As a refresher to those who might not remember the original post talking about how it works from Step 1 to 2:
When making certain decisions in how you interact with Cove, the game will give you either warm points or cold points. These points are calculated at the end of the step to determine whether your Cove in the following Step will be warm, moderate, or cold. If you have more cold than warm points, the game will only use the cold ones, and same for having more warm than cold points. The points not used are essentially "thrown away."
A "warm" Cove is friendlier to others and cracks more jokes, a "moderate" Cove is closest to his Step 1 self, and a "cold" Cove is quieter and more blunt. They all interact with the MC similarly, except a warm Cove is more likely to tease the MC and not be as dependent while a cold Cove is more likely to side with/cling to them. His relationships with others will still be similar regardless of whether he's "warm," "moderate," or "cold," but how he expresses himself in those relationships may be different.
The warm-to-cold variation is a spectrum that goes from Warm, Warm-Moderate, Moderate, Cold-Moderate, and Cold. There is no Warm Cove who will do Cold Cove things and vice versa. With Warm-Moderate and Cold-Moderate, the idea is that you have a mostly Warm/Cold Cove respectively but with some mild variation.
There is a variable for "moderate" points in the game's code, but it goes unused in the game itself, meaning that a moderate Cove is more of a "default." If you were to go from the start of Step 1 and immediately to the end without doing any moments, that would be the best way of getting a "moderate" Cove. Engaging in moments is more likely to make your Cove warm/cold, so if you've played the game a lot and always go through a lot of moments without using the Cove Creator to change his personality, you could get a Moderate Cove for a potentially different experience.
In terms of the rules on how to get a warm/cold Cove, it varies. If the MC calls Cove out, teases him, includes/talks about other people, and encourages Cove to be more outgoing or do new things, he's more likely to be warm. Taking Cove's side, being protective of him, speaking up for him rather than letting him do it himself, and keeping things between him and the MC is more likely to make him cold. It's not a one-size-fits-all situation though, as a shy MC could make Cove warm because he's being encouraged to defend you whereas leaving Cove all by himself could make him cold.
Regardless of whether he's Warm, Moderate, or Cold, Cove will remain a sentimental introvert who gets flustered over romance.
Cove's appearance has nothing to do with whether he's warm/moderate/cold barring the rare cases where a choice might happen to overlap with it.
In terms of new information from Step 2 to 3 specifically, I'll say right away that whether your Step 2 Cove is already warm, moderate, or cold doesn't matter nor factor into how your Step 3 Cove turns out. All that matters is how you treat him in Step 2.
In addition, the point calculation works differently. In Step 1, having no more than 11 points in either Cold or Warm will give a Moderate Cove, having 12-19 points in either Cold or Warm will give a Cold-Moderate/Warm-Moderate Cove (depending on which you have more points in), and having 20 or more points will give a fully Cold/Warm Cove.
Also, if your points are tied, the game would "flip a coin" to decide whether it will opt for the cold or warm points.
However, Step 3 has more variation (well, not technically, but we'll talk about that later), first by making it even harder to get a Moderate Cove.
You only need 5 or more points in either warm/cold points to be locked out of a fully Moderate Cove (as a fully Moderate Cove would be 0-4 points). 5-9 will get you a slightly warm/cold Cove (we'll call this Moderate-Warm and Moderate-Cold for convenience), 10-14 or 15-19 (the game does two checks for this for some reason) will get you a Warm-Moderate or Cold-Moderate Cove, and having 20 or more will get you a fully Warm/Cold Cove as before.
In the case of a tie in points, the game will not do a "coin flip" anymore and will instead default to cold points.
One odd thing I will note (this wasn't relevant in the original post where I talked about Step 1->2) is that the Cove Creator actually sets some default cold/warm points as you pick the various buttons for Cove's personality.
The button on Warm gives 20 warm points and 10 cold points (again, these cold points are "thrown away" because the game only cares about what you have more of), the button between Warm and Moderate gives 12 warm points and 6 cold points, the button on Moderate gives 6 warm points and 6 cold points, the button between Moderate and Cold gives 6 warm points and 12 cold points, and the button on Cold gives 10 warm points and 20 cold points. These are the same points applied in any step where you can use the Cove Creator to change Cove's personality.
Now, did you catch something there?
Due to how Step 3 changed how few points are needed to lock you out of Moderate Cove (only 5 or more), it's actually impossible to get a fully Moderate Cove using the Cove Creator to change his personality. It will give you 6 warm points and 6 cold points, which will default to the 6 cold points due to the "coin flip" removal, thus giving you a Moderate-Cold Cove.
You can actually test this yourself if you have a save at the Step 3 Cove Creator. Set Cove's personality to "Moderate" and skim through the intro narration until it starts talking about Cove's family, right here:
Cove's relationships with his family improved over the years. Kyra visited several times after that summer, and things became easier between the two.
He was also closer with his dad than ever before. You knew they talked more, and that helped prevent a lot of friction before it could start.
If you had a fully Moderate Cove, you would get one of two follow-up narrations depending on if your Step 2 Cove was warm/warm-moderate/cold-moderate/cold or fully moderate.
if Warm/Warm-Moderate/Cold-Moderate/Cold in Step 2:
Cove's personality, however, drifted back to how it was in the past. He was pretty blunt and not overly social, but he had plenty to say when he felt like it.
if Moderate in Step 2:
Cove's personality, however, was recognizable from the past. He was pretty blunt and not overly social, but he had plenty to say when he felt like it.
You won't get this narration if you chose Moderate from the Cove Creator. Instead, you would get one of these:
if Warm/Warm-Moderate/Moderate in Step 2:
However, Cove grew into someone no one would call 'social'. He kept to himself, usually. He cared for the few connections he did have, but didn't reach outside them.
if Cold-Moderate/Cold in Step 2:
However, Cove still wasn't what anyone could call 'social'. He kept to himself, usually. He cared for the few connections he did have, but didn't reach outside them.
I actually checked just to make absolutely certain that I was on the latest version of Our Life (1.7.1) and I am. It seems that in the process of trying to give more variation to Cove's personality (or just making Moderate more unlikely), the Cove Creator was left out of the equation. I'd be curious to know if this happens on older versions.
Further puzzling is that I was going to list multiple examples to show the difference between Warm/Warm-Moderate/Moderate-Warm and Moderate-Cold/Cold-Moderate/Cold (similar to what I did in the last post for Step 2 Cove), but the thing is that I could not find any.
I searched and scanned through the code in an attempt to call upon any instance where it would check for a Warm-Moderate/Moderate-Warm or Moderate-Cold/Cold-Moderate Cove specifically, and in every case the game considered them to be fully Warm and fully Cold respectively.
In other words, whereas in Step 2 you had Warm, Warm-Moderate, Moderate, Cold-Moderate, and Cold Cove, Step 3 seems to stick to a strict Warm/Moderate/Cold Cove with no in-betweens. If anyone has any evidence to the contrary then by all means, message/toss me an ask, but I couldn't find anything to suggest otherwise.
This also makes Moderate Cove the hardest to get since you would need to actually achieve it in-game by avoiding warm/cold points as much as possible. Even just going through the Step 2 intro and ending only, I don't even think you could avoid being locked out of Moderate Cove if you're playing on Fond/Crush.
Getting back to the topic of choices though, here are the options themselves that'll give you warm/cold points throughout Step 2:
Step 2 Intro
After Cove comes by to deliver the fruit bouquet (Fond/Crush only):
"Thank you!" [warm +1]
"Thanks." [warm +1]
"You are too cute sometimes." [cold +1]
When Jeremy is complaining about his parents:
You kept quiet. [cold +1]
"You shouldn't talk about your parents like that." [warm +1]
"Sorry. It must suck being forced to do something you don't want." [warm +1]
"We just said hello. You don't have to keep complaining at us." [cold +1]
"Calm down. You don't have to yell so much." [cold +1]
"Who peed in your cereal this morning?" [warm +1]
When Jeremy mocks Cove's eyebrows:
"What?" [no change]
"No! Cove's wavy eyebrows are so cool!" [warm +1]
"How can you say that when you've got a bowl cut?" [warm +1]
"Don't listen to him. They're really unique and special." [cold +1]
"Well, they are kind of silly." [warm +1]
"Apologize to Cove right now. You can't treat people like that." [cold +1]
(immediately following above choice):
You just rolled your eyes. [warm +1]
You crossed your arms over your chest. [cold +1]
You shook your head. [warm +1]
You patted Cove on the shoulder. [cold +1]
You lunged towards Jeremy! [no change]
You grinned at all of this. [warm +1]
When Derek points out the fruit bouquet once Jeremy is gone:
"I need to save it." [cold +1]
"Why not? Let's eat." [warm +1] {note that the skewers will change Step 3 Cove's left wristwear: pineapple or strawberry will take it off, grape will give him the black wristband, and melon will give him the chain bracelet and beaded wrap bracelet with the jewel}
When Elizabeth shows up to confront the MC over the fruit bouquet (if the MC chose to eat it with Derek and Cove):
"Sorry, Elizabeth..." [warm +1]
"Get over it." [warm +1]
"Well, the morning's been kind of a disaster!" [cold +1]
"We were hungry?" [cold +1]
"It wasn't us. A seagull came down and ate it all while we weren't looking!" [warm +1]
When Derek and Cove try to make an escape from Elizabeth:
You ran! [cold +1]
You stayed. [warm +1]
After Cove sneaks into the MC's room (Fond/Crush only):
"What are you doing?" [warm +1]
"What's up, Romeo?" [warm +1]
"This sure is a surprise, but you're always welcome here." [cold +1]
"Is everything okay? What happened?" [cold +1]
"You're lucky I didn't start screaming." [cold +1]
"Amazing. My dreams have come true." [warm +1]
(following above scene) When Cove vents about being upset over his situation with his parents:
"There's nothing wrong with feeling bad. That is hard to deal with." [cold +1]
"We can deal with this." [warm +1]
"I'm sorry, Cove. You know I'm here for you." [warm +1]
"Yeah, that's... a lot." [cold +1]
You didn't know what to say. [warm +1]
(following above scene) After Cove asks if he can stay longer in MC's room:
"You can stay tonight, but we shouldn't make a habit of this." [warm +1]
"I've got a flashlight and some cards. Are you in?" [warm +1]
"Of course. You can always stay here, Cove." [cold +1]
(following above scene) When the MC realizes that Cove has stayed the night in their room:
"Cove!" [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
â You laughed quietly. [warm +1]
â You laughed loudly. [cold +1]
â "Are you okay?" [warm +1]
â You helped him up. [cold +1]
â "Shhh! My moms are gonna hear us." [warm +1]
You laughed out loud. [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
â You laughed even more. [cold +1]
â "Are you okay?" [warm +1]
â You helped him up. [cold +1]
â "Shhh! My moms are gonna hear us." [warm +1]
You jumped out of bed. {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
â You whispered in his ear. [cold +1]
â You shook his shoulder. [warm +1]
â You poked him in the face.
â You tugged at his hair.
â You threw a pillow at him.
You froze. {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
â You whispered in his ear. [cold +1]
â You shook his shoulder. [warm +1]
â You poked him in the face. [no change]
â You tugged at his hair. [no change]
â You threw a pillow at him. [no change]
(following above scene) After Cove realizes that he'd fallen asleep and tries (fails) to calm down:
"It's going to be alright." [warm +1]
"We're going to be in so much trouble!" [cold +1]
"Just calm down." [warm +1]
"Settle down, before moms hear you." [cold +1]
You didn't say anything. [warm +1]
(following above scene) As Cove is trying to sneak out back to his house:
You wished him luck. [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
You rallied him to keep going. [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
You suggested he sneak out the door instead. {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
You urged him to hurry up. {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
When Kyra asks the MC if they have any restaurant recommendations:
You shrugged. [cold +1] {note that this will give Step 3 Cove the spiky hair}
"Not really." [warm +1] {note that this will give Step 3 Cove the middle-parted hair}
"Sure, I have a couple of favorites." [no change]
You nodded. [no change]
When Cove is sulking near the end of the outing with Kyra:
You made a silly face at him. [warm +1]
You smiled at him. [cold +1]
You gave him a sympathetic look. [cold +1]
You flicked his straw wrapper at him. [warm +1]
You left him alone. [cold +1]
Wave
Fond/Crush routes only
When Cove asks the MC if they want to come down to the beach:
"Sure! I'll meet you there when we're done." [cold +1]
"Oh- yeah, I could do that..." [cold +1]
"Alright." [warm +1]
"I can't this time." [warm +1]
After MC meets with Cove on the beach:
"I wouldn't have missed it." [cold +1]
"Sorry you had to wait." [warm +1]
"And stay inside all day? I don't think so." [warm +1]
If the MC brought a board with them to the beach:
"Cove, I'm not that good at surfing." [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"I borrowed this board, but I don't know how to surf..." (if the MC is inexperienced at surfing) [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
"I'm ready to get in there." [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"Wanna have a competition?" (if the MC is experienced at surfing) [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"Will you give me some tips?" [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
If the MC didn't bring a board with them to the beach:
{note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"What am I supposed to do while you surf?" [cold +1]
"I'll stay here and watch you surf." [warm +1]
"I'm going to find something to do while you surf." [cold +1]
After Cove jokes about clothespins if the MC went surfing with him (not for competition) and got into a splash fight with him:
"That was terrible on any scale." [warm +1]
"Please don't." [warm +1]
"You're adorable." [cold +1]
"I'm not sure that even counts as a pun." [cold +1]
"I love it." [warm +1]
If the MC chose to stay on shore and watch Cove surf:
You continued to watch quietly. [warm +1]
You started cheering him on after a really cool wave. [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
You shouted at him to remember to pace himself. [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
You did an impression of a sports announcer. {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
You made a silly face when he looked back at you. [cold +1]
(following above choice) After Cove checks on the MC:
"I've found ways to entertain myself." [cold +1]
"It's been fun." [warm +1]
"Eh, I'm just a little bored." [cold +1]
"This was totally radical, dude." [warm +1]
"I couldn't take my eyes off of you." (if Crush) [cold +1]
(following above choice) When Cove tells the MC that he likes them being there:
You teased him. [warm +1]
You smiled. [cold +1]
You looked away. [cold +1]
When Cove imitates Jeremy (if the MC chose to go with him to the park):
"Ha ha." [warm +1]
"Don't scare me like that! One Jeremy is enough." [cold +1]
"That's not really nice. Funny, but not nice." [warm +1]
"You don't have to tease him." [warm +1]
"Ugh, parents don't know anything." [cold +1]
(following above) After the conversation with Cove starts winding down:
"We better get home." [warm +1]
"I wish days were longer." [cold +1]
You chose not to say anything. [warm +1]
Growing
When the MC greets Cove when he arrives at their house (Fond/Crush only):
With a wave. [cold +1]
With a low five. [warm +1]
With a nudge to the shoulder. [cold +1]
With a noogie. [warm +1]
With a hug. [cold +1]
After Cove explains why he's come over (Fond/Crush only):
You thought that was really sweet. [warm +1]
"How'd you know I was doing nothing? Maybe I had plans." [warm +1]
You nodded. That made sense to you. [cold +1]
"I was thinking the exact same thing." [warm +1]
When Cove admits that he hasn't eaten: (Fond/Crush only):
"Yeah, I get like that sometimes too." [no change]
"You should really eat properly." [no change]
"You didn't eat at all? Then you gotta have something now!" [cold +1]
"Great! We can eat lunch together." [warm +1]
During the second pause of tic-tac-toe or hangman when Cove complains about feeling stuck to the floor:
"I'll have to charge you rent then." [warm +1]
"You can be my new roomie if you want." [cold +1]
"Looks like we'll both be stuck here forever then. I'm sticky too." [warm +1]
"No way. I'll peel you off if I have to." [cold +1]
You just smiled at his whining. [cold +1]
During the third pause of tic-tac-toe or hangman when Cove wonders where the game's name came from:
"Maybe they named it that because people played it with tics and tacks."/'"Maybe it's what they had instead of real court trials back then." [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"I've always wondered about that..." [warm +1]
"I'll have to look it up later." [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
"It's a really old game. No one's sure where the name came from." [cold +1]
After the MC played tic-tac-toe with Cove (Indifferent/Fond):
You laughed along with Cove. [warm +1]
"Well, you should've taken the challenge more seriously." [warm +1]
"You're the one who wanted to play in the first place." [cold +1]
"I'm still the winner and you're the loser!" (if the MC won) [warm +1]
"I let you win, actually." (if Cove won) [cold +1]
You shook your head at him. [cold +1]
After the MC's initial reaction to Cove's hangman phrase (Crush only):
You didn't say anything. [cold +1]
"No, you're cute!" [cold +1]
"...Thank you." [cold +1]
"I can't believe you!" [warm +1]
"Damn, Cove." [warm +1]
You just let out a small squeak. [warm +1]
(following above choice):
"I really think you're cute. Seriously." [warm +1]
"Did you mean it? Do you really think I'm cute?" [cold +1]
You didn't say anything. [warm +1]
After Cove talks about how he thinks their talk about romance has been good (Fond/Crush only):
"I think so too." [cold +1]
You shrugged. [cold +1]
"It was awkward." [cold +1]
"The conversation had a mind of its own." [warm +1]
You just nodded quietly. [warm +1]
After Cove comments that he loves it out on the poppy hill (Fond/Crush only):
"I do too." [no change]
"You do? That's surprising," you said jokingly. [warm +1]
"Your opinion sure has changed since you were first on this hill." [warm +1]
You quietly enjoyed the moment. [cold +1]
After Cove says that he's glad to have met the MC (Fond/Crush only):
You blushed at the statement. [warm +1]
"I feel the same." [warm +1]
"That's so nice of you to say." [warm +1]
You smiled silently. [cold +1]
"You're being too sweet!" [cold +1]
"You're special to me, Cove." [cold +1]
Family
After Cove comes into the home and notes the awkwardness (if the MC stayed with their moms):
You laughed. [warm +1]
You wiped your eyes. [warm +1]
You smiled at him. [cold +1]
You shook your head in answer. [cold +1]
When the MC can talk to Cove about what happened, if the MC stayed with their moms (Fond/Crush only):
"There's a lot going on right now." [warm +1]
"It's nothing..." [cold +1]
You didn't speak to him. [cold +1]
"I needed to talk to you." (if the MC visited Cove) [warm +1]
"Thank you for coming... I'm glad you're here." (if the MC went to their room or outside) [cold +1]
"My parents are dead!" (if the MC asked about their adoption story) [warm +1]
(following after above choice)
"You don't have to do this." [cold +1]
"I'm okay..." [warm +1]
You closed the distance and hugged him." (only if Cove did not hug the MC; this happens if the MC doesn't have enough "touch points") [no change]
You started to cry. [warm +1]
You took a step back from him. [cold +1]
If the MC is participating in Lee's idea and Cove comments on it (Fond/Crush only):
"Thanks." [warm +1]
"I was pretty good, huh?" [warm +1]
You blushed and said nothing. [cold +1]
"Luckily we had a crowd who's easily impressed." [cold +1]
Dinner
When Cove asks the MC the first time if they want to come over for dinner:
"Yeah, I'll go." [cold +1]
"I can't." [no change]
You kept listening. [warm +1]
When Cove asks the MC the second time if they want to come over for dinner:
"Yeah, I can come." [warm +1]
"I'll have to ask my moms and get back to you." [cold +1]
"No, I can't make it."
â "Sorry." [no change]
â "Alright, I'll go." [cold +1]
"Why am I the only one invited? Or did you mean the whole family?"
â "I can't. Sorry." [warm +1]
â "Alright, I'll go." [warm +1]
After the MC looks around Cove's room (only if they haven't been in Cove's room before):
"Are you trying to make your own beach with all this sand?" [warm +1] {note that this will give Cove sporty +1}
"It's nice." [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove studious +1}
"Thanks for letting me come over." [warm +1]
You weren't sure what to do. [cold +1]
When the MC chooses where to sit/not to sit and Cove raises his eyebrows at them (Crush only):
You were nervous about that. [warm +1]
You smiled comfortingly at him. [cold +1]
You chuckled over it. [warm +1]
You felt very charmed by his reaction. [cold +1]
(following immediately after above choice):
You only shrugged back. [warm +1]
"It's nothing. Don't worry about it." [cold +1]
"You're like an open book, you know that?" [cold +1]
"You're such a sweet guy, Cove." [warm +1]
"You're adorable!" [cold +1]
When Cove asks if the MC wants to name a fish (Fond/Crush only):
"Yeah, I do!" [warm +1]
"Can I?" [cold +1]
"No thanks." {note that this will give Cove the thin rectangular blue glasses}
When the MC has the opportunity to ask if they can name a fish (Indifferent only):
"Can I name a fish?" [warm +1]
You kept quiet. [cold +1] {note that this will give Cove the thin rectangular blue glasses}
When Cove comments on how it seems unfair that the MC can't have pets at their house:
"Right? My moms can be strict over the weirdest things sometimes!" [warm +1]
"I don't mind it too much." [no change]
"I get it." [cold +1]
After Cove talks about how humiliating the deal was for him (if MC told Cove about the deal in Step 1):
"I'm really sorry about what happened, Cove." [cold +1]
"Then I'm sorry, since I'm gonna bring it up forever." [cold +1]
"Yeah, I get why that'd be embarrassing." [warm +1]
You laughed. [warm +1]
You stayed quiet. [no change]
if the MC has either told Cove about the deal in Sandcastle or did not bring up the deal now in Dinner
When the MC is given the opportunity to question Cove on why they're there:
"Is there a reason they wanted me to come over tonight?" [warm +1]
You kept quiet. [no change]
After Mr. Holden thanks the MC for coming:
You thanked Cove's parents back for inviting you. [no change]
You didn't say anything to that. [no change]
You just felt awkward about the situation. [cold +1]
When there's a lull in conversation during dinner:
You brought up your own topic of conversation. [cold +1]
You left coming up with a conversation topic to them. [warm +1]
After Cove is denied having an immediate sleepover with the MC (Fond/Crush only):
You gave him some words of encouragement. [cold +1]
You patted him on the back. [cold +1]
"Pst, I'll sneak the phone into my room tonight." [warm +1]
"Hey, you could always sneak into my room again." [warm +1]
You pouted about it too. [cold +1]
if the MC chose to tell Cove about the deal here in Dinner instead of anything else
After Cove storms out of the room:
You immediately followed after Cove. [cold +1]
You just stood there. [warm +1]
After Cove and the MC head to the MC's living room:
"Are you okay?" [warm +1]
"What do you want to do now?" [warm +1]
"I'm really sorry Cove." [cold +1]
"You did the right thing by leaving." [cold +1]
"Do you want to be doing this?" [cold +1]
You said nothing. [warm +1]
After the MC listens to Cove vent about his dad's behavior:
You continued to listen quietly. [warm +1]
"I'm sorry you have to deal with all that." [warm +1]
"You're right, that's terrible." [cold +1]
"It could be worse." [cold +1]
"Even if it didn't go well, your dad's only trying to make you happy." [cold +1]
When Cove laments the idea that he might not've been friends with the MC due to his dad (Fond/Crush only):
You stepped forward and rested a hand on his shoulder. [cold +1]
You hugged him. [warm +1]
You smiled reassuringly. [warm +1]
You wiped his tears. [cold +1]
(following immediately after above choice):
"I'm really glad we got to be friends." [warm +1]
"Please don't cry." [warm +1]
"Hey, don't worry about it. Alright?" [warm +1]
You didn't need to say anything. [cold +1]
"I wouldn't have let anything your dad -or anyone else- did mess things up." [cold +1]
After Cove insults his dad's inability to make people happy:
"I'm really sorry." [cold +1]
"You don't actually mean what you're saying." [cold +1]
"Do you hate your dad?" [warm +1]
"I'm here for you." (Fond/Crush only) [cold +1]
You felt bad that things were so hard for Cove and his dad. [warm +1]
You didn't say anything. [cold +1]
(following after above choice):
"What about your fish?" [cold +1]
"I remember that day, when it happened." [warm +1]
(following after above choice):
"Your dad still needs to stop being so forceful, though." [cold +1]
"You might feel better than you do if you tried to make up with your dad." [warm +1]
"You guys really need to learn how to communicate." [warm +1]
"I'll be on your side no matter what you do about your dad." (Fond/Crush only) [cold +1]
You stayed quiet. [no change]
When the MC is deciding what they can do for Cove to help him:
"Do you want me to turn the TV on?" [cold +1]
"Do you want something to eat? Or drink?" [cold +1]
You listened to whatever he wanted to say. [warm +1]
You stayed with him silently. [warm +1]
Road Trip
After Elizabeth teases Cove and the MC about getting married:
You told her to cut it out already. [cold +1]
"Cove has a point. It wasn't a great comment." [warm +1]
"I'll marry you, Cove." [warm +1]
You ignored Elizabeth. [cold +1]
You were embarrassed. [warm +1]
"I'll marry Cove on the same day Shiloh's mom marries Cove's dad." (if the MC joked about Cove's dad marrying Shiloh's mom in Long Day) [cold +1]
When the MC takes a good look at Cove wearing a jacket (Crush only):
You averted your gaze from him entirely. [warm +1]
"Yeah, don't worry about it." [no change]
"You look good - in the jacket. That's all..." (if Nervous) [cold +1]
"That looks nice on you." (if Relaxed) [warm +1]
"You just look so good right now." (if Direct) [warm +1]
"Yeah. Everything is really good." [no change]
You nodded while saying nothing. [no change]
After Cove panics and says "Nothing!" if the MC asks what he likes seeing others wear (Fond/Crush only):
That was funny. [warm +1]
You paid it no mind. [no change]
(following above choice):
It was a topic that made him uncomfortable, so you let it go. [cold +1]
You had a little fun and that was enough. You changed the subject. [no change]
"You're not very good at these conversations, are you?" [no change]
"I swear I won't make fun of you." [warm +1]
"I just thought it would be fun to talk about..." [cold +1]
(following above choice) After Cove admits he likes seeing people wear ankle bracelets:

You complimented Derek on his politeness. [cold +1]
You joked that Derek was basically an adult. [warm +1]
You kept quiet and took a bite of food. [warm +1]
If the MC chose to go outside after Cove to the poppy hill:
"You really should go to sleep." [warm +1]
"I know how you feel." [cold +1]
"I feel good." [warm +1]
"I hope you feel better." [cold +1]
You shrugged back. [warm +1]
You nodded. [cold +1]
(following above if Cove does an action that he claims is doing what the MC does):
"You do that all the time too." [warm +1]
"So do you, Cove!" [cold +1]
You were stunned he noticed enough to take note of it. [cold +1]
"I don't do it that much." [warm +1]
Not being able to argue with his assessment, you accepted it. [warm +1]
You felt bashful about his joke. [cold +1]
After Cove climbs up to the MC's window in his wetsuit to ask if they want to go to the beach with him (Fond/Crush only):
"Always." [cold +1]
"Here we go again..." [warm +1]
"It's way too early, Cove." [warm +1]
"You're crazy." [cold +1]
"Cove. You're so cute." [warm +1]
You gave a decisive nod. [cold +1]
Hope that helps, or at least is interesting in some form~
This one was a real doozy, not just because of having more chances than in Step 1 to give Cove warm/cold points but I really thought I was going crazy with the whole Moderate situation.

Man, the Russia/Ukraine war has led to a lot of terrible takes from far leftists. I have a mutual from Brazil, a self identified socialist, who is convinced that Ukraine is full of nazis. While they don't support Russia, they questioned why they have to be "pro-Ukraine" or "pro-Russia". They call Ukraine a "nazi hole" but call Russia merely "fascist". Am I wrong in thinking that they've been influenced by Russian propaganda? I know Ukraine does have a nazi/far right problem, but so does the US? And most European countries? idk they strongly hate the US/US government too, and it seems to create some kind of brainrot. at least they don't blindly support China or Russia like tankies do (nor identify with them), but it's still frustrating to take a neutral position on a pretty black and white situation.
I don't want to confront them 1) cause I'm not the type to argue over serious things like this and this may break our long friendship and 2) I'm not super educated on the nazi situation in Ukraine.
Anyway thank you for letting me rant in your inbox.
Yes, Russia has specifically focused its propaganda efforts on Latin America, Africa, and other regions that HAVE suffered from Western/European/American imperialism and are thus predisposed to take the worst view of them/believe that this situation is their fault somehow. This is similar to what the USSR did in newly postcolonial Africa in the 1960s and 1970s, positing themselves as offering the shared hand of communist brotherhood from Western oppressors. Because of more recent events like the invasion of Iraq, which was fully as unjustified as the invasion of Ukraine, Russian propagandists and their eager tankie/leftist foot soldiers have also got a lot of mileage out of "whataboutism." This is likewise an old Soviet propaganda technique designed to deflect any criticism of the actual situation by disingenuously asking "what about this other one!!!"
Likewise, the idea that Ukraine has a "Nazi problem" is itself propaganda. In the last election, far-right/Nazi-identified parties won barely 2% of the vote and AFAIK, no seats at all in the Verkhovna Rada (Ukrainian parliament). This is far lower than the nearly half of the USA voting for the far-right/Nazi-sympathetic Republican Party, and as noted, the far right elements in the UK and Europe. The idea that Ukraine is "full of Nazis" (with a Jewish president who just celebrated iftar with the Ukrainian Muslims/Crimean Tatars during Ramadan and instituted observance of Muslim holidays nationwide, very Nazi of him) is a line used by Russian propagandists to "justify" their attack and appeal to national memories of the Great Patriotic War (World War II) and the struggle against the Nazis, which is the central cultural grievance/memory in modern Russia. The Putin regime has referred to anyone they don't like, but especially the Ukrainians, as "Nazis" for a long time now, so it's supposedly their holy duty to kill them/commit ethnic cleansing/forcibly reunite the "fraternal" people of "Little Russia," as Ukraine has been called since the 17th century, with "Great Russia." And yeah, no.
Because the West and Europe has been pretty solidly on Ukraine's side, Russia has therefore cultivated countries like China, India, Brazil, etc, who have all suffered from Western interference and are looking to move into the first rank of global superpowers. This is, as noted, similar to the competing systems of influence built during the Cold War, but it also relies on much deeper Russian grievances that go back to the medieval era. Anybody who knows a thing about actual Russian history would therefore know that every single word it says about the Ukraine situation is a lie, but because that lie is useful for many other countries and fits into their own understanding of themselves, it is easy to repeat and act like it's a so-called superior moral position. This is also why US/American tankies so eagerly lap up Russian propaganda, because it plays into their moral sense of themselves as far better than the rest of the West and "righteously" discovering that the West is responsible for all the evil in the world etc etc. While non-Westerners are just helpless misunderstood puppets with no real agency or ability to make complex choices. This totally makes sense!!!
#anonymous#ask#russia ukraine war#russian history#as ever tankies are the fucking absolute worst and wrong about everything

hi! in one of your asks you said that you spoke picard, can i ask how you learned it? i know there are a lot of regional languages in france, but that there was a push to only teach french in schools, so would you say most young people who speak a regional language learned it from family/ self taught?
Hello,
I indeed was raised in the North by a family who has been living in the same handful of cities forever (I recently dicovered I had an ancestor in the 1100s called Estiennenon the 1st, Knight of BersĂŠes, a village ten kilometres from my hometown growing up).
Here are the dialects of Metropolitan France (and at the bottom of this page the ones from the former colonies, overseas):
It is true that the government has been trying to unify the language (and the accent) for a long time, claiming their insistance comes from a desire to strengthen the republic instead of accepting what they call communitarianism, which would according to them divide people. It has been a difficult topic for several centuries and as far as I see, most people have integrated the fact that you can speak your dialect at home with your family and your school friends, but it (nor your regional accent) has no place in school (from high school I would say) nor work, and especially not in formal situations.
We are also very attached to etiquette and not afraid of confrontation and what is considered good social behaviour includes good communication so if you speak like your grandparents, it will most likely be unfortunately side-eyed and sarcasmed out of you during your youth.
I was born in the early 90s and can fully understand Picard. I will use the occasional word or have a shadow of an accent coming out when I am really tired (it was stronger when I was younger), but I do not and have never used it because it was and is still mocked, not only because it is a dialect but it is one from the North, which has a pretty bad reputation overall (think Alabama). I have no intention to teach it to any future children as my knowledge has been rusting since I moved out after high school and there would be no benefit to it outside of being able to understand a few songs, although I still use some of the daily vocabulary.
As for the second part of your question, I have to take a first stop at your mention of "young people" since, outside of certain regions and families that make it a point to share the language with their children, the practice of speaking it at home is getting lost. My parents are mid boomer and early gen X and they naturally adopted my stance growing up to avoid mockery at work, especially while living in other places and it seems to be the case for most people, therefore young children would not be exposed to their regional dialects at home through grandparents anymore, and our current teens are way more interested in learning English anyway.
There are however places that are very proud of their dialects (ones that are essentially some form of bilingualism as they were born of the proximity with another country) and will teach it in a bilingual school French/dialect (such as Alsacien, Breton - which has no direct borders but is Celtic - or Occitan).
However, I would not add Flemish to this list despite its location since Belgium has a French side and a Flamand side who hate each other culturally and linguistically. I was raised near the Belgian border and did not hear or see Flemish until after I started travelling.
Let's look at a few dialects:

And since you specifically asked about the North, here is my shoutout to Jacques Landrecies, the only Picard specialist of the country and a beloved professor when I was a lit student, interviewed towards the end of this video.

Hope this helps! x

Forgot to add, but Stolas basically guilt tripped him into doing it.
"The one who wants me is my first ever friend..."
Blitz was perfectly willing to just leave Stolas there tied up, but instead gave him pity sex.
Yeah sure...Blitz was the one to make it all about sex. No Stolas....no....that was ALL YOU! The only thing Blitz did was do a little bit of flirting and steal the book, he didn't make it about sex. From beginning to end, that was all you.
People like to defend this kind of shit with "Oh it's intentional because it's meant to show Stolas lacking self-awarness!", which is very funny because 1. You are actively acknoweledging that Stolas' perspective here is invalid and Blitz's is which goes against the whole idea that both sides are suppoused to be in the wrong and 2. The show is not calling this shit out and every time Stolas says something like this (The final scene in Full Moon and the begining of Apology Tour) it's never called out nor is it ever frammed as that, and in Apology Tour specifically it is very obvious that we are specifically suppoused to take Stolas' side here and see Blitz as purely in the wrong.
I also do need to acknowledge that there are people who think that Blitz's feelings are portayed as valid by the narrative. They are not. The final scene in Full Moon and the begining of Apology Tour have Blitz rant about Stolas being a prince and considering that Oops established that this is a bias Blitz has towards Stolas it is very clear that these scenes are intended to be read as Blitz being blinded by his biases against Stolas due to Stolas being a prince, and he's too consumed in his biases to see that Stolas has real feelings for him. That is how these scenes are being frammed and clearly how they are suppoused to be read.
So no, the show doesn't see Blitz's perspective as valid. There is that rant in the begining of AT where Blitzo awkardly spells out his self-hatred keeping him from believing that a prince could possibily love him but the rest of the episode frames Stolas as someone hurt by Blitzo's actions and Blitzo as an asshole who hurts others. So his self-loathing isn't really something that the episode really wants you to sympathize with, only as another reason for why Blitz struggles to see that Stolas loves him.
Blitzo isn't a character that the show wants you sympathize with in this situation; the point of the episode is Blitz realizing that he isn't a good person and he needs to change. That's not a set up for a sympathetic character.
The show is directly outlining people information like this yet people still make bullshit excuses for Viv's writting based on some tweets. Blitz's perspective is never treated as valid by the narrative at all, sure, it acknowledges that Stolas was wrong for making this deal in the first place, but that gets rendered moot because that's not the reason for why Blitz hates Stolas; Blitz hates Stolas because of a bias he had against royals that completely came out of nowhere in season 2 solely so the show could make him purely look like an asshole consumed by his biases.
The narrative doesn't see Stolas SAing Blitz as the reason he hates Stolas, rather it sees Blitz's bias being a reason for that. It doesn't actually look at Blitz's perspective and how Stolas' actions may have affected him, hell it shows that it doesn't even affect him at all!
It's another instance of the show demonizing the people who Stolas has hurt so it could make them look unreasonable and further woobify Stolas. It's made even worse with the implication in Apology Tour of Blitz gaining feelings for Stolas and since Blitz really wanted to fuck Stolas it's not unreasonable to assume that the show may go in the route of "Blitz liked being SA'd by Stolas but he was just too comsumed by his biases to realize it!" because then you are fully painting Blitz as an biased asshole and any argument that the show understands his perspective gets thrown out the window.
Stolas' feelings are treated as valid by the narrative, how hurt he feels that Blitzy doesn't love him, that Blitzy doesn't see that Stolas loves him back, that Blitzy is "making him uncomfortable". Meanwhile, the narrative purely treats Blitz's feelings about Stolas as completely invalid, not using Stolas SAing him as an reason for Blitz hating him but rather him being too comsumed by his own biases.
There's a strong inbalance here that makes the argument that the show wants us to see them both as in the wrong completely fall apart. Blitzo is treated as the problem by the narrative and the fandom, that he's hurting poor Stolas' feelings with how he's treating the bird boy. And here's the thing; Blitzo having this bias came out of nowhere. There as no hint of this in season 1 or the first five episodes of season 2, it was only until Oops where this thing came up. This was never shown to be a character trait Blitz had nor is there even any reason for it, why Blitz has these preconcieved notions about Stolas going in. It's because the writters pulled this out of their ass so they could have an easy way to make Blitzo look like a complete asshole. Nothing more.
It's further accentuated by the show using "tell don't show" in that scene, where we are told that Stolas did all these nice things for Blitz rather than shown, and not to mention these nice things do not line up with Stolas' behavior at all in season 1. It's all just completely and utterly lazy. It's a lazy way to make Blitz in the wrong here. It's a lazy way to absolve Stolas of his behavior again so the narrative could coddle him.
It's a lazy way for the show to pretend this relationship has naunce when it doesn't. Oh, and fans have the fucking gall to say "you don't understand the nuances" when people critisize this shit. Oh, I'm sorry, what naunces? This relationship isn't nuanced in the slightest; it's a victim and abuser relationship where the victim is strawmanned and portayed as wrong and the abuser is coddled and woobifyed. Whether it was intentional or not, that is how the relationship comes across as.
The show needs to see that BOTH perspectives are valid for the "their both in the wrong" thing to even work, but it doesn't. Blitz never gets any slack and Stolas is babyed. That is how this relationship is frammed. You can not ever convince me otherwise.
#holy shit this post got long#anyways I really felt like I needed to say this so#ya#vivziepop critical#hazbin hotel critical#vivziepop criticism#helluva boss critical#helluva boss criticism#anti stolas#anti stolitz

âThe whole idea that theyâre using the Gaza âHealth Ministry,â thatâs synonymous to Hamas,â Romirowsky said. âSo basically youâre saying that youâre relying on the Hamas narrative to describe what is happening, which is totally detached from reality. Hamas has its own interests as far as aggrandizing everything ⌠theyâre looking to create a sense to put pressure on Israel by aggrandizing the numbers when they themselves are responsible for the devastation in Gaza. Itâs all Hamas. Letâs be clear: This is part of the Hamas strategy.â
Editors who contended that the use of âmassacreâ violated Wikipediaâs neutral point of view (NPOV) policy were outnumbered, and the verdict was consensus to rename the article âNuseirat rescue and massacre.â
âThis is part of a concerted campaign to manipulate the narrative and thus rewrite history,â one Wikipedia editor told me. âThe day of the rescue operation â they couldnât simply let that be the story that four hostages were rescued so they had to rebrand it as a massacre in the refugee camp ⌠and their main focus was butchering as many people as possible. They just happened to rescue four hostages. If Entebbe happened today, it would probably also be called âEntebbe airport massacre.â Their MO is to deny that injustices occurred to us, but then take these said same incidents and repurpose it for themselves and their own narrative.â
An editor who grew disillusioned with Wikipedia after making thousands of edits told me that âeven if some high-quality sources said a massacre happened, that still wouldnât make it the COMMONNAME. Once upon a time, something like this would be called âNuseirat operationâ or something neutral like that, it would describe the rescue and allegations of a massacre. But since experienced editors know very few people read beyond the title and lead, these guys are using their numbers to corrupt them both.â
Another editor told me that âa âmassacre,â by definition, is not a scientific classification. There are obviously many cases in which the term may be applied unambiguously, but that is not the situation here, nor in many of these contentious article title debates. All we are witnessing is subjective determination wholly driven by the politics and bias of the invoking party, specifically around what they wish to emphasize and ignore. The two sides doing their best to stack the optics deck with charged language to vilify the other side and win some endless PR war. They know that these article search results populate at the top of Google, and are widely cited and quoted by journalists and on social media. They so desperately want their authorship and preferred terminology to enter into common parlance and usage before everyday people have even had a second to think about whether the designation is true, or even appropriate to talk about it in that way. In the case of Nuseirat, what we know is that there was a rescue operation, as well as a reportedly sizable civilian casualty rate. Iâm not sure if calling it âNuseirat rescue and massacreâ is appropriate, and I donât think most of the people who participated in the RM cared about finding the most appropriate solution as well. What we have now is a weird âFrankensteinâ result that only highlights the schism and unhealthy detente between sides with profoundly differing perspectives and agendas.â The editor contended that Wikipediaâs manual of style should be revised so the word âmassacreâ is âremoved from general use in article titles when there is any ambiguity or intractable debate, or subject to far stricter criteria.â
One editor told me that the arguments put forward by those who wanted âmassacreâ in the title were âa stretch but it almost doesnât matter because so many people bought it,â as there were â4-5 more supporters than opposers ⌠the supporters of that name were particularly unified in their support â in fact, unusually so, so much so that they even carried a name that wasnât even the one proposed. Which is possible to do but unusual.â The editor believes that the discussion had âall the hallmarks of canvassing and coordination, which we know they are doing on Discord.â

A Deal With God: Taking Another Look At Max's Song Through A New Lens
Something you may have seen me talking about over the past month-ish is this really obvious (yet easily overlooked) plot armor the Duffers have given Vecna.
Vecna has a hostage. He can't be killed, or rather, can't be allowed to die, until Max has been retrieved. If he loses, so does everyone who loves Max. This means neither El nor the Party can strike any real blowsâwhich also means El and the Party can't allow the military to strike any successful blows. As I've discussed, these are prime circumstances for a possible "setting aside our differences to take on a bigger enemy" moment, even solely for Max's sake.
And I was sitting around last night, doing a whole lot of nothing, when it hit me. This has already been foreshadowedâheavily so, and specifically in regards to saving Max.
It's quite literally in the lyrics of her song:
Do you wanna hear about the deal that I'm making? ... And if I only could I'd make a deal with God And I'd get Him to swap our places ... Oh, there is thunder in our hearts Is there so much hate for the ones we love? Oh, tell me, we both matter, don't we?
In "Running Up That Hill" Kate Bush describes a man and a woman struggling to understand each otherâa lack of understanding that leads to mutual harm/loss. If the two could see each other's side of the fight, then the fighting would cease. The woman says she would make a deal with God to swap places with the man so that both sides would finally understand each other and work as a united force.
I've discussed, previously, the heavy-handedness of Vecna's God coding, as well as the barely-hidden soft spot he still seems to have for El, the breadcrumbs of "asking for understanding/trying to tell the story" that are interspersed between the Vecna victims, and hints that someone from the "other side" may already be trying to help under the table. None of this is to mention the fact that even in 4.09, El was still trying to bargain with Vecna. The only thing causing the talks to fall through was her lack of power in the situation. The military is a large source of bargaining power.
A mutually beneficial deal with a God-coded character that puts an end to fighting between a girl and a guy who love each otherâeven if their relationship has become clouded by hurt and betrayalâis quite literally the theme of Max's "saved from Vecna" song. "A deal with God" is quite literally what was saving her from the fate of the other victims.
It would be an olive branch, another minor plot line that's tied directly to both Max and El (not to mention Max and Billy's tenuous peace between seasons 2 and 3). All Mike had to do was offer El some candy to smooth things over in favor of working as a team against the Mindflayer. All Max had to do was speak Billy's language; safety was the bargaining chip.
Imagine what a bargaining chip like Max could do in terms of solving the situation in Hawkins? What kind of language is this speaking that both parties might understand?
Guaranteed the military won't give two shits about a mostly-dead girl in the face of the literal apocalypse. They're already starting the season off wanting El dead anyway. Even if they change targets, the military is not a trustworthy allyânot like the alliance between someone who has everything to lose in avoiding a war on two fronts (It didn't work for Napoleon at Waterloo, it won't work for Vecna in Hawkins. Not when one side has El and the other has free access to napalm and bombs.) and someone who has everything to lose in terms of loved ones held hostage.
It would also bring the show full-circle to the original ST1 message that the government is the big bad, and that all the weirdosâyes, even the "bad" boys that everyone thinks are creepyâneed to band together to protect their own from the government. Any government.
It would also be a really good chance to dig into Will's habit of holding resentment towards people. If his modicum of resentment towards El about Mike was enough to make him lash out verbally, then what is his anger and resentment towards the UD going to push him to do? Especially if there are talks of making deals...who knows?
Has Will healed enough to put his past with the UD aside for Max's sake? Or would he be steadfast in his believe that they need to kill Vecna/One as soon as possible regardless of Max's situation? (Staring at his behavior re: Mrs. Driscoll in ST3)
Which is to say: could Will...reach across the aisle, if need be?
And would Vecna require some kind of insurance? What would he ask for as a placeholder, to ensure that El won't just take Max and turn tail to join up with the military? Because El wouldn't keep up her end without first ensuring that she's really getting Max back, but it would be an illogical and OOC gamble for Vecna to just send them on their way without, as I said, some kind of insurance.
Maybeâand this is pure, pure speculationâsomeone who isn't in the Party's best graces? Someone who might not have been able to move past "we have to kill him", who may possibly almost mess up the deal because he hasn't worked past blaming Vecna/One for things done by other people (i.e. the Mindflayer). I mean, everyone wants Will to be special. Everyone wants him back in the middle of the supernatural arc. The Duffers have said Will's emotional growth will be important. He very much needs to face and grow through his trauma, and he very much needs to broaden his view of the world beyond himself.
Will and El swapped places in ST1, putting El into the UD and Will into the hospital, fresh out of a coma. All I'm saying is that a swap would be an interesting way to play it out, seeing Will be swapped to save El's friend, who is so coincidentally in a coma in the hospital. Get God to swap our places, and all that jazz.
Alas. I'm rambling. Just needed to get it down on "paper". Lots to say, so little time to say it in!

For the people that are going to do Dracula Daily this year:
One of the subplots that Dracula covers, and arguably the most important subplot, is one centered around a psychiatric patient confined to an asylum- it touches upon the way he sees the world, his relationship with his doctor, and how he relates to and perceives the villain VS the heroes, since for most of the plot he believes the villain to be good and strives to serve him.
Both the patient and the doctor characters (who are part of the main cast and very important to moving the plot foward in their own ways!) are portrayed as sympathetic victims to the main villain and mostly on the side of good, but in different ways, and, of course, the way they are written is informed by the beliefs of the time.
I won't spoil anything too important about it, just warn you that this subplot depicts Victorian Era ableism, which is... pretty extreme, and forms of medical abuse (specifically, psychiatric abuse) that still exist today!
This plotline involves:
-depictions of hallucinations, delusions, and irrational thinking
-medical malpractice: delusions being encouraged, patients being dehumanized, prolonged use of dangerous restraints
-unsanitary behavior (eating live animals)
-ableist attitudes from most of the hero characters
(other Dracula fans pls tell me if I've missed something)
What do I make of this? you ask. Well...
Do not excuse medical abuse, even if it's fictional. The doctor character is, for all his medical malpractice, depicted as a complex person that has some likeable traits and he undergoes a pretty sad arc relating to loss and trauma, like most of the heroes of this novel. This doesn't make him any less of an abuser, nor makes his patient any less of a victim!
Refrain from using ableist language or rethoric. The patient character, being written for a very old horror book, is often depicted as "unsettling" and his strange behavior is sometimes played for horror. This 1) doesn't make his situation any less deplorable 2) doesn't make him any less sympethetic and most importantly 3) doesnt give you a free pass to treat him as a scary horror monster. He's a victim of both the real monster of this story and the system he lives in.
Listen to psychotic fans. Research the history of Victorian asylums. Understand the historical context. Look at this subplot from a holistic perspective instead of treating it as a horror story within a horror story (although, it is a horror story, but not for the reasons some think it is!). Just don't be a dick to disabled people.
If any part of this subplot triggers or squicks you, you are not obligated to read it, just be aware that it exists and that it is important to avoid perpetuating ableist stereotypes, be they present in the original text or not. (Hell, you are not obligated to read any part of the book if you don't want to do so. Dracula Daily is supposed to be fun. Analyzing literature is supposed to be fun. Enjoying literature is supposed to be fun!)
For the love of God, don't get angry if some fans dislike the doctor character for what he's done and take the patients' side. This was an issue during the last Dracula Daily run. He's literally the victim in this relationship. I'm not saying you can't like or dislike either character but I have to reiterate: do not erase either character's contribution to the plot, do not demonize the patient character for being mentally ill in an "ugly" way and beliveing the villain is good, and don't woobiefy the doctor character because he said a funny thing once. Both are complex adult human beings so don't expect them to be caricatures.
Do not be afraid to call out ableist behavior from other fans, but also be careful to not overstep or talk over disabled fans, especially psychotic fans.
During the Dracula Daily run, some blogs will warn about the entries in which this subplot takes place, and what triggers apply for each one of them. If you need those warnings, don't be afraid to reach out for them!
Happy reading!

Minato thanks whatever lucky stars he has left for Mitsuru.Â
Sheâs evidently the reason Officer Kurosawa is here: sheâd had the foresight to arrange for him to be contacted in the event that emergency services received a call from any of their phone numbers. She had also briefed Kurosawa about the nightâs events, taking point without hesitation while Minato continued to stand there uselessly. Sheâd slipped into a calm and collected demeanor like armor, as though she wasnât covered in the blood of someone she cared about.Â
Kurosawa, who Minato has also been thanking those overtaxed stars for, had offered them all a ride to the hospital, split between the two squad cars. They never would have gotten here so quickly if it wasnât for him. He had even escorted them into the hospital to explain the situation, and now a nurse leads them to a waiting room. Unfortunately, Koromaru wasnât allowed inside, so Kurosawa offered to take him home. They really owe him for this.Â
Aragaki and Amada are nowhere in sight, but Sanada is there. He sits on one of the padded benches, elbows resting on his knees and fingers threaded together tightly, watching a nearby set of double doors with intense focus. His hands and arms have been scrubbed clean of Aragakiâs blood, but his clothes are still soaked in it. Itâs started to dry now, turning the fabric rust brown and stiff. Sanada doesnât seem to notice it. He doesnât even seem to notice their arrival.
He sits so incredibly still. The cold, muted light in the room has scoured all the color from his skin, leaving him as pallid as stone. The only real assurance that he hasnât been replaced with a marble statue is the minute tremor in his clasped hands.Â
âAkihiko?â Mitsuru sits by his side, gently laying a hand on his shoulder. Sanada turns and regards her for a moment, expression unchanging, before looking back to the doors.
âShinjiâs in there,â he says dully. âTheyâ they needed to perform emergency surgery. Thereâs no guarantee heâll survive it. Thatâs what I was told.âÂ
No one has the heart to speak after that. No one knows what to say at all.Â
Once again, Mitsuru comes through. âHow is Amada?â She presses gently.Â
Sanada bites his lip. âThey took him to check if his eardrum ruptured. If it did, thereâs a chance he might not be able to hear out of that side anymore. But theyâll do what they can.âÂ
God, this really is the worst. At least Amadaâs injury isnât life threatening, but the fact that it happened at all makes Minatoâs skin crawl. He didnât need to have been standing in that alley to know that Takaya hadnât been firing a warning shot, nor had it been his aim only to render Amada half-deaf.
What had Takaya been trying to do? Had he simply been planning to take out the next members of S.E.E.S. that happened to cross his path, or had he sought Aragaki and Amada out specifically? And if heâd targeted them in particular, then why? Without Chidori, how had he even found them?Â
Minato has a feeling he wonât ever get the answers to these questions.Â
An hour passes. The only break in the terrible silence comes when Aigis offers to keep watch so everyone else can get some rest. Itâs a sweet gesture, but no one takes her up on it. Despite his exhaustion and the fact that itâs a little past two in the morning at this point, Minato knows thereâs no way heâll be able to sleep. Itâs clear that all of them feel the same.Â
Not long after Aigis makes her offer, the double doors open and a doctor in scrubs comes into the waiting room. Sanada immediately sits ramrod straight. Mitsuru squeezes his shoulder and stands while he remains seated, still at rigid attention. It seems they have a wordless agreement: sheâll do the talking.Â
Thereâs no way Aragaki is out of surgery alreadyâŚright? Minato tries desperately to glean some sort of information from the doctorâs face, some indication of whether sheâs brought relief or grief with her. There are deep lines etched under her eyes, and a pink furrow across the bridge of her nose from a surgical mask she must have recently been wearing, but her actual expression is as unreadable as Aigisâ.
Minato swallows, nerves absolutely frayed at the seams. He doesnât know if he can handle more bad news at this point. The space between his ears feels numb.
âHow are they?â Mitsuru asks, getting straight to the point.
âWeâve done what we can for Amada-kun,â the doctor replies. âFortunately, his eardrum is intact. It should heal up nicely and regain full hearing function, though it will take some time. At least a week. Weâd like to keep him overnight to monitor him, but there should be no complications with his recovery. I can give you more details once we discharge him, if youâd prefer.â
Some of the tension in the room softens. âYes, that would be fine,â Mitsuru says. At least thereâs some good news, though the fact that sheâs leading with that makes Minato worry about Aragaki even more. Did he make itâŚ?Â
âAs for Aragaki-kun, the operation is a fairly delicate procedure, given the extent of his injuries and the advanced state of his condition. But currently itâs progressing as well as can be expected,â the doctor continues. A little more of the tightness in Minatoâs shoulders relaxes. Heâs still alive. At least for the moment heâs still alive.
From the corner of his eye Minato sees Junpei, Yukari, and Fuuka all glance at each other in confused alarm at the mention of âthe advanced state of his conditionâ, but neither Sanada nor Mitsuru look at all surprised. He wonders when and how they found out, given how tight-lipped Aragaki had been about it, and whether they may even know more than he does.Â
âWe will need to perform a blood transfusion, but unfortunately our stocks are somewhat thin at the moment. Apathy Syndrome has led to an uptick in need for transfusions and a significant slowdown in donations. We wanted to ask first if you would be willing toââÂ
Sanada immediately stands up. âIâll do it,â he says.
The doctor frowns. She looks deeply regretful. âUnfortunately, Sanada-kun, according to your charts from when you were here earlier this year, you arenât a viable donor for Aragaki-kun.âÂ
âWhat?â Sanada looks nearly as stricken as if she had told him that Aragaki didnât make it. âButâ weâre both type A, I know we are!â
âThatâs correct, but your blood type is A-positive, and Aragaki-kunâs is A-negativeâ your red blood cells contain a protein called Rh factor while his do not. Attempting to introduce your blood into his body will cause his immune system to react to the donated red cells as though they were pathogens and attack them. Even for an individual in perfect health, this reaction can be fatal.â
Sanada goes from pale to grey over the course of her explanation. He sits back down heavily, as though his knees have simply given out.
âI see.â His voice is strangled and so, so small.
âIâm very sorry, Sanada-kun,â the doctor says, and she really does seem to mean it. She turns to Mitsuru. âKirijo-san, given your blood type is O-negativeââ
âYes of course,â Mitsuru answers without hesitation. âWhatever he needs.â
âExcellent. Now the number of units we need exceeds what we can safely take from one person, but it does look like thereâs another member of your group who would be a compatible donor. Minato Arisato?â Her gaze flickers between Minato and Junpei questioningly.
It takes several seconds and Junpeiâs elbow digging into his ribs for recognition to finally click into place.
Minato Arisato. Thatâs right. Thatâs him.
He stands and nods, and comes to stand beside Mitsuru. He doesnât trust himself to speak.
âThank you, Arisato-kun. If youâll both come with me, please.â
They follow the doctor wordlessly. From behind him, Minato hears a long, jagged exhale and Fuukaâs quiet voice asking if Sanada is alright. He does not let himself look back.

I'm very love your stories about Kaiju no 8 and I have an idea that I wonder if you could do it. English isn't my first language so I hope you could forgive me if some words I write go wrong. Imagine Kagami go on a misson with Gen and Soshiro and she's got attack by a Honju and got in a serious injured that make her almost lost her life and fall into a comatose for a few months I think, and their react about that situation. I hope you have a wonderful day!
Thank you for loving my stories!!! Also, your English is fine hehe
To be honest, your idea is actually what I planned for the main story of my series. If you've read the manga, it will take place in the second wave arc, where more numbered kaijus got introduced from 11-15! I will give you a slight spoiler for what I had in mind!
Now I am actually planning on creating a kaiju no. 16 specifically made to combat Kagami! If you've read my post OC: Uzui Kagami, it's stated there that she's inspired by Uzui Tengen from Kimetsu no Yaiba thus she knows of Total Concentration Breathing and is immune to most poisons. So to combat her, the kaiju will be inspired by Gyuutaro that works with poisons and sickle (might change the weapon but it's essentially like this)
This is just a summary for my future work which will answer your question but it goes like this...
=â˘=â˘=â˘=â˘=â˘=â˘=â˘=â˘=â˘=â˘=â˘=â˘=â˘=â˘=â˘=â˘=â˘=
Kagami is a strong woman who became a platoon leader for her skills and mostly due to her hard work. Being surrounded by people who underestimate her and kept on calling her weak has impacted the way she thinks of herself, hence she doesn't believe she's strong nor had the talent as it took an even longer time for her to be promoted. Kagami can definitely survive a honju attack as she can neutralize kaijus no matter the size with her special weapon.
To be seriously injured, a tough opponent is needed which is kaiju no. 16 who can match evenly with her, maybe even stronger. It would be a battle of endurance between them as poison immunity doesn't mean it combats all poisons. (This is heavily inspired by Uzui vs Gyuutaro okay!)
Anyways, I won't say much as it would be a major spoiler but to give you an answer, her injuries are indeed severe. Her right lung has been punctured making it hard to breathe and use TCB so she had to rely on her suit. The small and big wounds on her body contains poison which is hard to combat making her almost die (like really die). Not even medicines are working because her body is also immune to it. Medicines and poisons are two sides of the same coin.
After declaring her critical condition, Soshiro tries incredibly hard to get to her despite his own injuries. Their locations are distant to each other so he would really need help even if he overuse his suit to get there. He begged, begged for her not to sleep and to wait for him to come. She's already saying her goodbyes as all she thinks about in her last moments was him. She's sorry for she can't wait for him and told him she loves him. Soshiro is definitely ooc for he openly begs and cries for her, breaking the hearts of those listening to their convo.
Gen is also one of them. He's already accepted the fact that he'll never have a place on her heart. Especially as she's never really mentioned him during her last words. As he's the one closest to her, he was the one that took her in his arms and hurried to the base where she would get treatment faster and better than the medic on field. By then, her pulse is almost non-existent and she's getting colder by the second. He also wanted to cry and beg for her not to die but he shut his feelings up.
For miraculous reasons, she's saved but in a coma. She doesn't hear any words they're saying as she's occupied by her dream. Soshiro doesn't want to leave her side even after they defeated kaiju no. 9. For the first few days, he'd cry and not leave her side. No amount of persuasion can get him to leave. Not from his captain, his comrades, his family nor hers. It was only Narumi Gen who got to get him away from there and get him back on track.
Ever since then, he'd visit her everyday after his work that he's practically lived there now. Most medical staff told him that it might be impossible for her to wake up but none of them listens nor believes it. Soshiro has faith that Kagami will wake up for him and their promise.
For the first few days, Gen also didn't want to leave her side but gave way to Soshiro who was more broken than him. He kept most of his feelings to himself despite being crushed as well. The only time he cried was when he confronted Soshiro that make him come to his senses. Amongst all the people, he's the most in denial as he speaks to her everyday like she's just sleeping. He'd actually be the most delusional aside from Soshiro with her coma.
As in all, Gen's more or less accepted everything. The question is...
Will Kagami lose her memories or not once she wakes up? HAHAHAHA
Memory loss is not an issue but Gen can definitely try!
I'll tag you once I've made the main story okayđđ¤

My thoughts on Levi's up coming bad boy one shot and his love life. :3
Now personally! I feel like he shouldn't have a love interest in the oneshot. Not because like I don't want to share him or stuff like that, but because that would kinda throw away all the levihan hints they gave us. Hell, it's most likely canon.
I understand that it's set during Levi's early childhood, teenage years and early adulthood but that would still kinda ruin the whole premise of Levi and how he lived. It's quite literally shown he didn't have any interest in anybody other than furlan and isabel, they were his only family. I doubt he'd find himself a crush down there.
The underground was a time where the only thoughts in Levi's mind was to survive. It was no place to fall in love and shit like that, given how in the manga for no regrets, even when given the choice to have a woman or anything from some man's store, he prefers taking something (specifically tea) from the store after winning the arm wrestling match.
Link to it::
Next, if Levi were to have some sort of love interest or crush during his youth, I feel like it would at least be mentioned once, it could be when he was still with furlan and isabel, but there's nothing. It could also be a situation like erwin's and marie's where nile got to her first because erwin chose humanity. But it seems unlikely. Erwin, still, cares about marie and talks about her. And if Levi liked somebody, given his big ol heart, surely he'd ask about this love interest at least once right??
If anything, romantically, Levi quite literally only has eyes for one person, which is hange. I'd argue it's canon. Levi is constantly worried about them, during countless battles together, he first thought of hange and their safety, he makes sure hange keeps themselves alive, he listens to hange and their hours long rambles, he even asked moblit, in the short story, to keep hange safe because he's the only one around them 24/7.
I get that he can have a first love, but he was feared and hated upon during his youth by the people in the underground, I highly doubt some woman is going to find that hot. Levi was dangerous, and people in the undergrounds knew that, yeah sure some people still fought them but humans are like that. Always biting more than they can chew.
I firmly believe Levi's first and last love was hange. I'm sorry to the eruri shippers but I see their relationship as only blinded loyalty from Levi's side and comradery/deep friendship due to their years in the military together. But at the end, erwin wanted him in the beginning for Levi's strength.
Hange on the other hand, always viewed Levi like a person, not a tool, not a thug, nor a person to be afraid of. Levi's first normal interaction above ground was with hange and how casually they greeted him, furlan and isabel while the rest of the corps were still weary of them.
There are countless scenes with him and hange, countless.
I'd say Levi and Hange have the kind of love and bond in the manga that nobody else can have. Not even eren and mikasa.
Hange and Levi's relationship was built on years of comradery and trust. They know each other well and only have each other. Even when erwin was alive, Levi knew more about hange than he knew about erwin, so much so that he knew how they knocked. Now, we can assume he knows erwin's knock too, but we've only been shown to see him recognize hange's knock. The two literally talk telepathically for gods sake!!! They just look at each other and understand! I don't remember seeing anybody else having that deep of a bond.
After reclaiming wall Maria, Levi was always by hange because they're all he has left and he's usually by their left side because hange can no longer see from that eye, it's a disadvantage and it anything were to go past them or attack them, it'd be from the left and Levi knows that, that's why he places himself to their left whenever possible.
Even during the end, he shows hange emotions that he's never shown anybody else. He's said things to them that nobody else has seen. He quite literally hands over his heart and gives it to hange to keep. He's seen holding back tears and holding onto the hand that last touched hange, knowing they'd never return back to him.
And even after that, in every shot of after the war, he's always thinking of hange, whether it's looking at the plane that they were last in, or the lollipops, or the glasses he holds. He's always thinking of them because they're all he had.
I feel like both Ackerman's chose to stay single because they lost their brunettes. They lost the one they loved most in the line of duty and will never move on from it because they know they're soulmates.
Both ackerman's wanted a peaceful life with their brunette but they couldn't. Not in this lifetime at least.
Which is why I humbly believe having a short love interest for the sake of nothing in the bad boy's manga would kind of ruin all that Levi has! It fits if he has only one love and even that he can't have because life is just that cruel. A short love interest would be useless and would only cause heated arguments between shippers and even send death threats to the creator, so for the sake of everybody, I sure to do hope there's no love interest for Levi in his one shot. We already know who his soulmate is, there's no reason to drag another character in just so the fandom can hate it for a reason as silly as "Levi's inlove with them."
To anybody who read all of this, thank you so much (â´âĄ`â). That means alot!!!

CCCC Vol.1 - Cacophony: Mindâs domain (4/5)
Hello and welcome back to the fourth part of my analysis of the Cacophony act.
Let's start with a brief recap:
After a period of peace and mutual understanding, in which Mind, Heart and Soul tried to work together, they start to drift apart
Mind wants to take control and become the new leader. Heart fears Mind and tries to stop him, by subduing him
Since theyâre both equally powerful forces, Heart cannot take Mind down and ends up suffering the consequences of his action
Depression follows. Chonny is unable to express what he feels, so he slowly starts to hide his feelings, until his depression worsens into apathy
Fully affected by apathy, Heart cannot bring himself to care anymore. They will all die anyway, so thereâs no point in trying to protect their vessel from Mind. He can take over.
And so, since Mind is taking over, this part will be all about him: his thoughts, his ideas, his sick burns at Heart and his reasons. The guy surely has a lot to say.
<- Previous post - First post
_______________________________
Be Born: Mind takes over
About himself - nah, Iâm kidding. Mind doesnât talk about himself. Thereâs one thing he loves doing more and itâs dissing Heart.
Since Mind doesnât hold any grudges at all, he insists and reconfirms Heart is stuck in the hole he made for him ah ah ah, take that Heart. Okay, he didnât say the last part, but Iâm sure he thought it.
He also accuses Heart of being responsible for their situation: itâs Heartâs fault for not wanting to be one and staying away from him instead. Jeez, I wonder why Heart didnât want to stay with Mind, considering what a âlovableâ fella he is.
He also confirms heâs âhalf of a hollow personâ. Glad to see that, at least, he and Heart agree that their vessel is âhollowâ.
About the split:
Mind says he was in control before and he will be back in control. So, since Heart was the current leader after the split, I suppose Mind was in control for a period before the split? And yes, this makes sense because a person isnât always guided only by one side. You are not always controlled by your emotions or your mind (or both): they always switch.
Mind doesnât specifically talk about the event that leads to the split, but mentions a depressive state and a constant fight - which sounds more like the consequences of said event rather than the event per se.
About the current situation:
Just like Heart, Mind feels the cacophony growing in intensity
Heâs aware he, Heart and Soul are three parts of the same person, hence why Heart needs him to survive. And this is also why he insists heâs not an enemy: in the end, they all have the same goal.
Mind tries to rouse Heart from his apathy. And he does it the only way he knows: with more reproaches.
Since the reproaches donât work, Mind resorts to an ultimatum: either Heart reacts, or he will die. Mind is very clear about it in the last line. âWill we be ours? Or will you die?â: Mind doesnât include himself in the dying perspective nor wants Soul to die. Itâs up to Heart to decide if he wants to move forward with them or to be left behind and rot.
_______________________________
Storm and a Spring: Mindâs fears
In The Heart Acoustic, Heart feared that, by leaving Soul with Mind, Mind would make him âsickly, dead and coldâ. He fears Mind would irreparably destroy their vessel.
But the picture Mind sees is very different:
1) The vision of Soul
Heart feared Mind would trick Soul into becoming âsickly, dead and coldâ. Mind, on the other hand, already sees Soul as something âso deep, and dark, and eternally coldâ.
Itâs very interesting how both of them see Soul as something dark and cold. From what weâve seen of him until now, Soul seems powerful, way more powerful than them. And he admitted their constant bickering is âdraining his sympathy dryâ. So, well, thatâs probably why they donât see him as the life of the party.
Also, Chonny said in the Q&A that Soul âwas always meant to be a sort of husk/shell/veneerâ, so since heâs the closest to the actual vessel, it also makes sense they see him as something sick and dark, because itâs how Chonny feels too: sickened by the split and full of dark thoughts.
itâs just very interesting that these aspects of Soul are seen by Heart as a consequence of Mindâs influence, while Mind always saw Soul like that.
2) The vision of Soulâs power
Heart feared Mind would trick Soul into becoming cold like him. Mind, on the other hand, fears that Heart would be crushed by Soul.
So, to put it simply: Heartâs main concern is Mindâs ability. Mindâs main concern is Soulâs power.
It almost looks like Heart doesnât think Soul is the most powerful of them, but sees him as the husk/veneer heâs supposed to be. While Mind sees past Soulâs âroleâ, and focuses on how powerful he is.
And if Mind is correct, then Soul is way more powerful than we thought. Heâs not just stronger than them, he can literally destroy one entire side of the self.
3) An oath between Heart and Mind
Mind mentions an oath between them to keep the Soul whole. When did it happen? Was it before the split? Was it after? Considering what we have, I would put it during Night: that moment was characterized by mutual understanding and a desire to be together and work as one. What better moment to promise to keep Soul whole?
4) A threat - and its consequences
Right after all of that, Mind tries to rouse Heart from his apathy one more time, to push a reaction out of him. And when he fails, again, the ultimatum becomes a threat: either Heart finally reacts or Mind will kill him.
And what happens, right after one of these two equally powerful forces tries to subdue the other? They are the ones who are hit. We saw it during the Juno incident, we see it again here. A threat was enough, to lead Mind down a chaotical series of hypotheticals and dark visions.
Some people saw it as a panic attack and yes, we can consider it as such: after all, we just saw the embodiment of the mind threatening to kill the embodiment of all feelings. If you think about shutting down all of your feelings, wonât you also feel a tinge of panic and imagine all sorts of dark consequences for it?
_______________________________
The Mind Electric: Mutual inability to understand
So, letâs recap:
* Mind is heavily influenced by logic
âBut if he'd just once humor me He'd see we need to live life logicallyâ
Mind embodies the logical side, so of course he prefers clear, cut, precise logic over confused, incomprehensible feelings.
But also: the split has been (probably) caused by a failed romance. The reason they became three is because of feelings. Of course Mind thinks theyâre bad and they should live life logically!
* Mindâs insistence on lies
In his constant dissing, Mind keeps pointing out how much Heart is a liar.
Again, it makes sense, because logic cannot be affected by lies. 2+2=4 is and will always be true. Thereâs no room for lies in logic.
But feelings⌠well, they can be faked. Or misinterpreted. They may look like something and end up being something else.
This is completely foreign to logic. And since Mind knows that because heâs part of the same entity and knows how feelings work, it makes sense he insists so much on Heart being a liar: Heart says heâs in pain, but what if itâs a lie? He says he care, but what if thatâs a lie too? How can Mind be sure whatever Heart says is true or not?
* Understandable distrust
So, from Mindâs point of view, we have a leader who is constantly affected by confused emotions and lies all the time. Now, would you think this is a great leader, or would you also think this is a parasite that should be removed from his position?
Sure, Mind is petty and everything⌠but his reasoning is logic. He sees a bad leader? He wants the leader removed. He sees himself as more clever and more logical? He wants himself as the new leader, because he thinks he can do better.
Also, do not forget the two previous songs: Mind already explained that he doesnât trust Heart in the leading role - and not just because heâs a liar. He thinks Heart isnât strong enough for Soul.
And despite all his pettiness, all Mind wants is to keep moving forward. While Heart has already surrendered, Mind still fights against apathy.
* Mutual inability to understand each other
We learned to understand Mindâs motives, maybe we can even share them. But consider what he says:
âI'm sure it seems from his point of view That I'm a simple, cynical machineâ
and
âMaybe my existence might be by design A simple fact that he'll refuse to seeâ
In other words, Mind blames Heart for not understanding him⌠all while he himself doesnât show any understanding of Heart.
What are the previous points of this song? That Mind thinks Heart is a liar, that heâs confused by emotions, that heâs weak and vile.
Now, what did we see in The Heart Acoustic? Heart lies and may seem weak and vile, but thatâs because of self-preservation. Heart might be affected by emotions, but heâs still very well aware he and Mind need each other to become one. And even if heâs affected by emotions, Heart still has a clear vision of the problems Mind might cause and thatâs what pushed him a strong, very strong reaction.
* Understandable distrust part 2: the Juno incident
Mind didnât take the Juno incident well. And I know, itâs funny, ahah Mind doesnât hold grudges, sure.
But see how he talks about it and consider when it happened.
In the song before (Night), Mind and Heart were still cooperating. Mind was only thinking about taking Heartâs role as the new leader. And until that moment, Heart probably looked meek and weak in his eyes.
And then, Heart tried to subdue him. And when Mind talks about it, he doesnât focus too much on the shooting part, but on how Heart fell inside âa hole he dug for meâ.
What struck Mind the most was that Heart wanted to kill him. He wanted it so much, he already dug a hole for Mind. Mind, the same force he was cooperating with not long ago. After telling him stuff like âI want to see your eyes looking back and out through mineâ.
Of course Mind thinks Heart is a huge liar, of course he holds a grudge! If their forces werenât equal, Heart wouldâve succeeded. Mind was saved, because Heart is as powerful as him.
And this also explains why he keeps pointing out heâs not a villain nor an enemy: because he knows why Heart tried to shoot him and he wants to prove his fears were unfounded.
Despite his efforts, Mind still doesnât get a reaction out of Heart. Heâs still stuck in that hole heâs still âengulfed in resentmentâ.
And so, Mind sees him not just as a parasite anymore, but as a virus. And if parasites can still be useful for the body (think of all the parasites that live in our intestines that cooperate with us), viruses donât. Viruses have to be killed and removed.
Mind tried everything he could, Heart didnât reply. The last thing left to do is to get rid of him.
And thatâs when things can truly become dangerous, Soul finally intervenes.
-> Next post
(How about a coffee? â)
