Imagine Derek and Cove realizing they're both crushing on the Mc before the Mc does. It gets a little awkward but they're besties and each of them think the other 1 is a better fit for the Mc.

Like Cove pointing out how Derek was so thoughtful about father's day, when it never occurred to Cove.

Like wise, Derek points out how mc and Cove are always together, Cove knows the Mc the best.

It goes like that, back and forth, each 1 encouraging the other until they agree they're both a good match. They would never hurt the Mc, they would rather die. It's a bonding experience.

In the end, they make a pact that if any of them date the Mc, the other would be supportive. No matter what, they will always remain friends.

I imagine this pact inspires Derek's proposal deal. He knows he's no competition for Cove with how busy and distant he'll be with school. He knows he can't confess and murky the waters, only to be unavailable. It's not fair to the Mc or Cove but if there's any hope for the future, he atleast wants to make his intentions somewhat known.

moving in with your childhood best friend seemed like such a good idea, until you realized that this meant you'd spend every free moment with cove, making it almost impossible to hide your feelings for the boy!

both cove and you were head over heels in love with each other and have been for years, yet neither of you ever acted upon those feelings, simply pretending you were just friends

but now that you two found yourself living in the same apartment, cove's feelings for him grew even stronger! and it wasn't any different for yourself…

suddenly, there were all these small domestic moments you shared with each other, making it truly feel like you were already some old married couple – going grocery shopping together, cleaning the apartment together or making dinner together every night

but those weren't the only new moments you began to have with one another! while sharing a bathroom, it kept happening that you walked in on each other changing or saw each other hurry back to your rooms after a shower, wearing nothing but a towel

it was difficult to handle that mix between a mundane life and the constant thrill of seeing a new side of the person you loved!

though it only made it more obvious just how much you loved each other! all those times you turned into blushing messes in front of each other, unable to hide those feelings, since there was no place the other one wouldn't be as well

and eventually, it became too much! there was no way cove and you could hide the way you felt any longer…

after another awkward run in during which cove walked in on you changing, he ended up not only stammering out an awkward apology, but also a few compliments and letting a small “i love you” slip out

both of you were awkward messes, unsure what this even meant for your relationship. but it was clear that you both felt the same way! and once you calmed down a bit, you could finally have a proper conversation about your feelings for each other, leading to you two finally becoming a couple!
