Actually in my heart, I do think Link cares in twilight princess, but they use Midna because it would be clunky to have an internal dialogue of a silent protagonist. I dont think Midna cares about hyrule that much at the point where you get to transform at will, just about Link and Zelda respectively. Like, I think Link cares more about it than Midna really does, and Midna only vocalizes it because of the aforementioned clunk factor, and because she cares specifically about how it would affect Link's mental, especially in the cases where you dont realize people can see you (which is what primarily happened to me)

I think Link the Character would not be trying to transform in extremely public areas because he cares about not scaring people. furthermore i also think that it guts him that the people of ordon are so scared of wolf him

Twilight Princess Link absolutely cares because Twilight Princess Link is a hard-working farm boy with a heart of gold, he's quite literally the Clark Kent of all the Link's, while Midna is the perfected form of the "uchi" companion, she starts off not giving a fuck and then slowly but surely actually starts to give a fuck when she realizes the light dwellers actually aren't all that bad and maybe don't all deserve to become lifeless beings.

I think Midna cares enough to stop you from transforming in front of other people because 1.) by the time you get the ability to shapeshift, she actually DOES give a shit about you (after the Lanayru section of the game and Link/Zelda save her life) and 2.) she's the keeper of the Special Magic Rock that lets Link change at all, if she says no, then Link can't just change on his own 🤷 but also mostly 3.) starting a public riot in the middle of a populated town does not make for a productive journey, it would have been obstructive at worst and annoying at best LMAOO

As for whether or not TP Link cares about scaring people, I think the fact that he asks at all to transform while he's in full view of the people points more to him just. not thinking before asking LOL or idk maybe he just likes fucking with Midna especially after all the fucking around she did with him in the beginning 😆

I don't even think Majora's Mask Link would want to necessarily scare people either, but as I briefly mentioned passively in the tags, Termina is already awash in so much collective trauma that arguably nothing phases them anymore. Every once and while I remember that the LO discord was a secret 8th level of hell. Any criticisms you had on the chapter had to be censored because Rachel didn’t want to see it. You weren’t allowed to talk about religion (astrology was a part of that and was the reason so many people got in trouble) and some of the mods were terrible. We got put into a “thunderdome” and were allowed for a few minutes to voice some valid complaints. Then they kicked some people out that were a part of that thunderdome for creating trouble.

the "thunderdome" incident was essentially some huge meltdown that allegedly happened in the official LO discord

it allegedly started when people were arguing among themselves about whether or not discussion of SA and other triggering subjects should be allowed (kinda silly to think of it not being allowed considering the subject matter of the comic they were discussing, but ok lmao)

and the discourse apparently got to a point that the mods had the brihgt idea to open some free for all room for one hour where anyone could say anything

y'know, to "get their grievances out" or w/e

and let's be real, we KNOW how the LO fandom has behaved in the past, especially back then when criticizing LO in ANY capacity was considered a crime punishable by public humiliation and witch-hunting

soooo it went about as well as anyone would expect it to, allegedly there were a LOT of horrific things said, massive amounts of in-fighting, and by the end of it all, after MANY people had been banned - some just for simply having an opinion that opposed the hive mind - a lot of users were left wondering if the whole point of this "thunderdome" room was just an underhanded attempt by the moderators to entrap and expose the people who didn't worship Rachel so they could ban them

again, this is ALL ALLEGEDLY, I wasn't there when this happened and I've only read about this from the one reddit thread that actually talked about it and heard other things from people who were supposedly there (but I obviously have no way of verifying / confirming without screenshots)

this is all testimonial, not 100% confirmed, so take it with MOUNTAINS of salt

still, the thought of this actually happening is hilariously absurd. if this actually happened, that means Rachel's mods seriously thought opening a Roman coliseum room was a good idea, and since they've been trying to bury it.

It also just goes to show just how toxic and unhinged the fandom really was back then, before criticizing LO was publicly acceptable, because yes, there was a time the fandom would straight up argue over whether or not it was okay to talk about SA in this, the community dedicated to a comic that depicts on-screen SA.
