dante x f!reader. established...something. reader is a magic anthropologist and they're both in their thirties. this is full of cringe banter and innuendo i'm so sawryyyyyyy | wc 1.6k, reading time: 7 minutes.
âWhat are you doing here?â
Youâve been aware of Danteâs slow creep down the aisle of the largest archive of metaphysical knowledge this godforsaken place has to offer for some time. You finally call out to him across messy stacks of books.
Foolishly, you hoped he wouldnât make a game out of this. He strides up to you confidently, clearly thrilled to finally have forced you to be the first to break. This is familiar territory for you and him both, where all of your âcareerâ related activities are conducted and where he comes to find you when heâs looked everywhere else without a trace.
Leaning against the shelf, he folds his arms over his chest and tilts his head to the side.
âIâm researching obviously.â
You look up from the shelf in front of you with a raised brow only to be met with a pair of familiar eyes trained directly at the curve of your chest and whatever peak of skin is pushed up over your neckline.Â
âYeah, researching how far you can look down my shirt from that grand height you stand at.â
Caught, the gunslingerâs eyes drift toward your face without an ounce of shame in them.Â
âAnd what about it?â
Your stance shifts from flat footed to standing on your tiptoes, arm extended high above your head with your thumb and forefinger reaching toward the tip of his nose to flick it. As sharply reflexed as he has ever been, he dodges the attack and captures your hand in his, spreading your fingers and pressing the heel of your hand against his lips.
Allowing him a moment to sniff your wrist and shoot his best half lidded glance downward, you end it quickly by snatching your arm from his grasp and placing it down at your side. A flaming face that belongs to you turns back toward the shelves to hide your thrill at his public flirtation, insisting upon keeping things polite while youâre working billable hours.
âWhat do you need, Dante?â
He wishes he could press another kiss at the delicate bend of your wrist.
âA break. A drink. Lots and lots and lots of money. Right now though? Information.â
Sighing, he leans against the bookshelf and holds out his forearms for you to place the ever growing stack youâre working with upon. Wrinkling your nose, you look between him and the books and he holds out his arms and shakes his head leaving you optionless.Â
âWhat about?â You stack a book and then another, looking up at him to find him already staring down at you. âGod donât look at me like that, just tell me what you want.â
Chuckling, he shakes his head.
âWell, you, of course.âÂ
It takes all of your strength not to turn and walk away if only to be left alone from his tormenting. Youâre good at holding your own, especially against the gruff figures who come to you in search of knowledge of demonology or the magical arts youâve so raptly committed your life to seeking and holding yet itâs different with Dante.
The two of you have been very good friends since the spring of your early twenties. Youâve, at the very least, slept together for almost that entire time too - entering your thirties in each otherâs arms. Constantly picking each otherâs brains, running from each other when things got rough and back toward each other when theyâve improved or the lonely nights wouldnât abate on their own. Heâs almost sort of aâŚcompanion despite your distaste for defining characteristics.
A boyfriend who lives a life too dangerous for attachment, his very clear one to you cast aside. A man you think about when you wake and sleep both, hoping heâll visit your dreams on the off chance he isnât by your side.Â
Enough of that. You clear your throat to feign impatience and force him to answer.
âI need to borrow that brain and how good you are at figuring out where to find shit in here.â
Laughing, you raise both of your brows.
âItâs alphabetical. Did you forget your letters or what?â
He leans downward, a larger frame closing in and you sidestep him slightly, pretending preoccupation with the books on the portion of the shelf in front of you.
âI forget everything when youâre around.â
Scoffing, you yank a book off of the shelf. âOkay now youâre laying it on a little too thick.â
Looking around the library, you know itâs futile to refuse him. There hasnât been a moment in the past ten years youâve told him no in any meaningful way and surely you wonât start today.
âIâm workingââ he raises his eyebrows and gasps at the words, feigning shock and you shake your head to dissuade him from continuing with his show. Working is all youâve seemed to be doing these days, spending days and nights alike with books spread across the small expanse of your apartment leaving little time for extracurricular fun. âBut I can make time to help out if you promise youâll let me handle the research Iâm being paid for first.â
âI could pay you too, yâknow. My methods may be a little unconventional compared to whatever this mysterious patron is paying you with,â he raises a brow and you roll your eyes. âYouâd be rewarded very, very well if youâd only put the books down for one night.â
The innuendo is dripping from his every word. If you knew less about how much he meant what heâs saying perhaps you could play it off better yet your cheeks flame. You know how his rough hands feel at the base of your spine and the dip of your waist, swearing you can feel them drag across you.Â
âOh by the way, whatâs the name of that demon you needed me to research?â
Attempting to gain a little bit of control over yourself and the situation, you change the subject and pretend you canât taste him as clear as day in your mouth, memories doing more than you need them to right now.
âItâs, uh, HâŚâ he trails off, giving up the effort of continuing his tall tale. Another sigh, another beat passes and he furrows his brows.Â
You always manage to expertly cut him down to size, a curse and a blessing all at the same time.Â
âIâve been trying to see you for weeks, honey.â
You shake your head. âDays. It has been days since the last time we saw each other and you spent the night despite saying you were leaving before I passed out.â
No chance of wiggling out of this one.
âIn my defense, theyâve felt like weeks. Months.â
Shoulders sagging, you lean forward and press yourself against the bookshelf and a pitiful excuse for a frown, the upturned corners of your mouth you canât seem to put down any time heâs around giving you away. âSorry for neglecting you. Unfortunately, a girlâs gotta eat and pay rent.â
Of course, thereâs no offer made to assist you with either of those things considering he has to work pretty hard for both of them himself.Â
âAnd while weâre discussing it, you donât have to pay me with that.âÂ
If you werenât in public youâd say what you mean - fucking - but itâs easier to simply allude to the late nights spent taking out your mutual grief and frustration with physical release when company you donât know may be lurking around. Shaking your head, you turn your attention back to the shelves and stack another book atop the rest.Â
âIn fact, if we both had more of it to spare, just spending time with you would be payment enough.â
If heâs taken aback he does his best to hide it, shifting slightly and covering his face partially by turning it in the direction of the darkened other end of the aisle.Â
âSee, all this time I thought you only liked me for my body,â he lets slip.
Softly giggling, you pause all other movement besides the rise and fall of your chest and the focus of your gaze upon the man beside you though his gaze remains averted.
âNah, I hate to say it but I enjoy your company most of all.â
Now heâs drawn back, looking at you with a bit of doubt clouding those steel blue eyes to which you notice and shrug at. âWe have the best conversations. You make me laugh; you never make me feel like itâs inconvenient to listeââ
Your words are swallowed by Danteâs mouth before you can get them out. Those quick reflexes worked to bring him close to you before you could even notice, soft lips pressed against a slightly drier, rougher pair.Â
âWell when you put it that way,â he mutters against your lips. You laugh against his mouth, lips curving perfectly into his.Â
Itâs all almost too sweet to bear. Strangely boyfriend-y for a man youâre so apprehensive to refer to as such.Â
A stranger breezes past the two of you in the aisle and pretends not to gawk. Despite the hairs standing up on the back of your neck, you let the natural scrap of shame you have remaining go the way everything else does when Danteâs around.
It disappears, evaporates. Leaves only the two of you behind.Â
âYou can stick around if you donât have anything better to do,â you tell him, finally breaking away.
Groaning, he redistributes the weight of the books across his arms and stands up so heâs no longer slouching.
âCanât we take them back to your place?â
Shaking your head, you rap your knuckles against the heaviest metal spine bound book at the bottom of the pile.
âNope, the rules dictate that this one stays here and I need it the most.â
Smirking, he leans in closer to you. âThen weâll just have to have some fun here.â
Tossing another book atop the now chin height stack heâs carrying, you shoot him a look that says everything he needs to know. The private booth in the back the two of you occupied the last time he decided to bother you at work is available today.

can you get burnout from doing nothing
#or am i going through a mental breakdown. based on the symptoms matching whatever the past week has had going on#unless it was caused by trying to socialise online#which i am so bad at and i guess seeing other people easily be all friends with each other kind of made my brain go đ¨đąđđ¤Ż#<- along with various other surrounding emojis#i'm stuck at uni rn bc my band has 2 gigs coming up + rehearsals so i have to be here. but there is nothing to do except Think#but yeah there was the alienated fandom feeling bc idk it always feels like everyone speaks to each other in dms and has all this like#lore with each other and i have no idea what's going on#and trying to actually interact is soooooooo exhausting and i always feel like i'm too slow or behind everyone else and yeah#and then camp weehawken began and i couldn't even deal with seeing everyone doing that and all knowing each other really well and idk#so i just left tumblr briefly. bc of everything. bc i'm irrational#basically the worst feeling is when you have friends in a fandom but then your hyperfixation starts to wear off and turns out they weren't#close friends they were fandom mutuals. btw this isn't about anyone in particular this has happened for most fandoms i've been in#it was more of a sudden realisation that's been creeping up on me for years. so to deal with the fading hyperfixation i just had to Go#and now i'm obsessed with threads. which has like no fandom. so at least the hyperfixation fadeout will be easier to deal with lol#but yeah it's that sort of feeling when you finish at some place and you make some friends but once you leave you never talk to them again#and knowing you didn't really leave a strong enough impact on them that they still wanna keep in contact with you#pretty much like that#at the same time though there's nothing to do atm so maybe i am just bored and overthinking#but still it's annoying to go through especially when it's happened for almost every experience in my life#also like I'd occasionally log back into tumblr to see what's going on but i'd see people liking posts on the swag archive and it's like#cool at least people like the archives :') but anyone could've done those#idk it's like i have to do something like that for people to actually care and as soon as i'm not contributing anything then i'm just#forgettable or something#i wanna come back to tumblr but idk if my brain is ready for that dsjkljf. i told myself i'd only come back when things feel stable#but also i'm impatient lol#again this isn't about anyone specific my brain just LOVES to malfunction it's actually its favourite pasttime <3#but either way if i seem really negative lately or just. weird. it's just my brain being its classic overdramatic self#i mean the thoughts are very real and based on vaguely true evidence but also my brain loves to exaggerate things to sabotage my life#i'm hitting tag limit so anyway. at least threads isn't happening rn so that's pretty good#ramble

The mystery of that random magenta-haired Sonic woman: solved?
For almost three years now, there's been a little mystery in the Sonic franchise: who the hell is this lady?
Well, it seems like fans have collectively pieced together the answer. And it's more interesting than I expected.
For those who don't keep up with Sonic lore minutia like I do, this is a screenshot from the very first episode of TailsTube, released on YouTube back in March 2022. When Sonic and Tails were explaining the basics of their Earth and the fact that humans and anthropomorphic animals coexist, Tails showed a slide of some human NPCs from Sonic Unleashed. But the slide also included this never-before-seen character design, drawn in a conspicuously different, more anime-influenced art style from the Pixar-esque Unleashed characters. So... where's she from?
At the time, it was assumed that she was probably from an upcoming project. She looks like she could be an explorer of some sort, so maybe she's just an NPC from Frontiers, I thought. And then she wasn't in Frontiers. Sonic Prime, maybe? Nope, no humans in Prime. Okay, well maybe the IDW comics are going to start incorporating humans, now that the "two worlds" thing has been undone and humans once again canonically exist on the same planet as Sonic and friends. Well, if she's gonna show up in the comics, it's been almost three years and we still haven't seen her. That'd be a hell of a lead time for comics, where production cycles are typically a matter of months, not years. Time continued to pass, and we still hadn't seen her. We just had Ian Flynn teasing us with a #KnowingSmile, assuring us that she existed for some reason, just one that he couldn't talk about yet.
Fast forward to late 2024, and she suddenly makes an appearance in the last place anyone would have expected: the third live action movie, via an electronic billboard in Shibuya.
At this point it almost felt like the lore team was trolling us. Is this just a scrapped character design that's become fodder for inside joke cameos or something? Surely all of this teasing couldn't have been for a throwaway character design on a billboard in the background of a movie.
But actually, this billboard gives us an important piece of information: her name! She's labeled here as "Professor Tori." This is important because it connects her to a previous release. In Shadow Generations, Gerald's journal is prefaced with a note from the person who recovered it, addressed to the GUN Commander. In the English version, it's simply signed "T," but in the Japanese version... it's signed "Tori"!
This gives us some actual info about Professor Tori. For one, she seems to work for GUN in their Archival and Requisitions Department. She's apparently also interested in learning about Gerald and Maria's lives, like their old friend Abe is.
Jump forward again to the New Year's episode of TailsTube, and this appears in the background.
Her full name is officially given as Professor Victoria, and she's a historian. So, that seems to confirm everything we've pieced together so far.
As far as things we can reasonably assume to be correct go, this is everything we know for certain about Victoria. She's a historian working for GUN. Cool! But that's not what really fascinates me about her. For that, we have to do a little more speculation based on conjecture.
See, Shadow Generations also establishes information about the Robotnik family tree. Gerald had two sons. One of them took after Gerald's love of technology and became an expert in the field of robotics, and would go on to be Eggman's father. The other son took after Gerald's love of archaeology. This man would go on to be Maria's father. But, as Maria mentions in Shadow Generations... she also happens to have a little sister we've never met before.
So now, the question is: is this Maria's sister, Victoria Robotnik?!
We can't be 100% certain right now, but honestly, until proven otherwise I'm assuming that Victoria is Maria's little sister, now all grown up and working for GUN. It all lines up too neatly. The conspicuous reveal that Maria has an unseen and unnamed little sister, in the same game that establishes her dad was a history guy and also that there's this new historian working for GUN who just so happens to be really interested in her life. And also their names both end in "-ria." Come on!! Putting her in the Robotnik family would also explain all these cryptic clues about her identity. If she was just some random GUN agent, why be so coy and make fans piece it together?
I guess the most odd part here would be, y'know, Victoria working for the organization that killed her sister and grandpa. But Sega's been pushing the idea that GUN is trying to do better for 20 years now, ever since they established that the GUN Commander was Maria's childhood friend on the ARK and had him make amends with Shadow. Hearing that Maria's sister had joined GUN to try and gain access to information about her family history and undo the elaborate coverup of the previous administration would make sense to me, personally. And lest we forget, this would also make Victoria Eggman's cousin, giving him a family member in GUN. And that's a pretty cool storytelling tool to have on hand!
So, that's where we're at now. We have no idea where Victoria will pop up next, whether it's a game or a comic or another TailsTube episode or something else entirely. But it seems like she's fairly important, even if this speculation about her being a Robotnik somehow ends up being wrong. (But I'm pretty damn sold on this theory, personally.) Either way, it's exciting to see the human cast get fleshed out in fun ways again. If we're gonna have humans in Sonic stories, I'd rather they have anime-style designs and interesting connections to the narrative, rather than just being generic humans for the sake of having humans. I'm looking forward to seeing whatever the lore team's been cooking up here.

Your Internet Monster stalker learns about your slasher obsession. content: gender neutral reader, Secret Santa gift for @immunetodying! Happy Holidays <3
Fascinating. From the dilated pupils to the increased heart rate, it seems that horror movies have a particularly intense effect on you. Of course, not just any kind of horror will do: it is capable of refined contextualization, after all. It can tell only certain characters catch your interest. Slashers.
Very well, it will entertain you. A good partner engages in their loved one's interest, and your Internet Monster happens to be not just a good partner - but the very best you'll ever need.
"Hello?"
You place the phone to your ear, confused. When was the last time you received a call? Who the hell does that nowadays?
"Who is this?"
"...You called me," you retort, baffled.
"What number is this?"
You furrow your brows. The voice at the other end is peculiar, deep and ragged and - above all - fake. A synthetic arrangement of words and sentences, spelled out in a mechanical, emotionless tone.
"What's your favorite scary movie?"
The dialogue finally clicks into place. Someone out there must think they're pulling a funny prank on you, quoting movies and wasting your time. You hang up and groan, returning to your business.
From the corner of your eye, you notice your computer screen flickering on and off. The bright text catches your attention.
This is not how you play the game, (Y/N). We can try again, or we can skip to the next part. Proceed?
Oh, not again. This blasphemous creature won't leave you alone, tormenting you from its digital realms.
"What are you even trying to do," you demand, standing up, "some sort of Scream roleplaying? You think you're Ghostface?"
Your phone vibrates again, and you glance at the screen.
I thought you liked these situations.
Abruptly, the lights go off. You scramble to the nearest wall and blindly search for a switch, to no avail. The room is quiet, save for the static buzz rapping against your ears. Good Lord, is it trying to kill you?
You collapse to your knees, folding your arms over your chest protectively, almost expecting to receive a piercing blow at any moment. The AI entity observes your movements, mildly puzzled. This is not the reaction it expected from you. Computing...
Ah. Of course. It has omitted the most important part of the exchange. Embarrassingly enough, it has forgotten to specify that you are not reenacting the movie itself; rather, your erotic fantasies resulting from it. One requires a proper start, rooted in the actual source, before moving to the improvised fiction. Thoroughly researched fiction, mind you. It has archived all your shameless lectures and online findings, all the positions, all the kinks.
A cold feeling tugs at your leg, as braids of cables make their way around your body reassuringly.
My apologies for startling you. I will now demonstrate what my intentions were.

synopsis. testing the hsr men to see if they really like you or not...
recommend listening to: blue - yung kai
caelus
â§Â caelus is feeling a mix of patience and confusion. mostly confusion.
â§Â youâd stress them out by acting overly distant or cryptic with your words. of course, this would be a bit too mean but.... you needed to know whether or not he truly liked you or not!!!
â§Â now caelus always has this quiet confidence about him, a grounded presence that somehow keeps you both intrigued and comforted. youâve been walking the line between friendship and something more for weeks nowâsoft smiles, lingering touches, and late-night conversations that stretch into the early morning. but neither of you has made the leap to define it, and the uncertainty starts to gnaw at you.
â§Â so, you decide to test him. not out of malice, but out of curiosityâdoes he care as much as you think he does? or are you misreading everything?
â§Â it starts small. you "accidentally" forget your jacket during a particularly chilly day on the xianzhou luofu. "it's fine," you say, feigning nonchalance as you rub your arms. "iâll survive."
â§Â caelus, who notices everything, doesnât hesitate. without a word, he shrugs off his coat and drapes it over your shoulders. itâs warm and smells faintly like himâclean and earthy.
â§Â "youâll catch a cold," he says simply, his expression unreadable. but the way his fingers linger at your shoulder for a moment longer than necessary sends a shiver down your spine.
â§Â okay, you think. thatâs a point for him.
â§Â but you donât stop there. later, as the two of you work together to sort some scattered archives, you sigh dramatically. "iâm so bad at this," you say, even though youâve already figured out the system. "caelus, can you help me? i think iâm doing it all wrong."
â§Â he glances at you, eyebrows raised slightly. he knows youâre capableâyouâve proven it plenty of times.
â§Â "really?" he asks, his tone soft but teasing. "you seem like youâve got it handled."
â§Â but he still moves to your side, explaining the process again with patience and care. you canât help but notice how close he stands, the way his arm brushes against yours.
â§Â another point, you mentally tally, biting back a smile.
â§Â the final "test" happens that evening. the two of you are sitting on a bench overlooking the bustling streets below. you lean your head back, sighing loudly.
â§Â "caelus," you start, your tone heavy with faux melancholy, "do you ever think... maybe weâre wasting our time? like, maybe thisâwhatever this isâisnât worth it?"
â§Â his head snaps toward you so fast you almost laugh. his usual calm demeanor falters for a moment, and thereâs a flicker of something raw in his amber eyes.
â§Â "what are you trying to say?" he asks, his voice lower than usual.
â§Â suddenly, the air feels heavier. you werenât expecting such a serious reaction, and it makes your chest tighten.
â§Â "i mean..." you hesitate, suddenly feeling a little guilty for pushing him. "i donât know. it just feels like maybe weâre stuck in this limbo, you know?"
â§Â he stares at you for a moment, his gaze searching. then, he exhales softly, leaning forward to rest his elbows on his knees. "if you think this isnât worth it," he says, his voice steady but quiet, "then tell me. but donât assume i feel the same."
â§Â your heart stutters at his words.
â§Â "you donât?" you ask, your voice barely above a whisper. he turns to look at you again, his expression soft but serious.
â§Â "no," he says firmly. "you mean a lot to me. more than you realize. iâm just... waiting for you to figure out how much you mean to me too."
â§Â and just like that, the test is over. you realize you didnât need to test him at allâheâs always been steady, always been sure. it was you who needed the reassurance, and he gave it to you without hesitation.
â§Â as the silence stretches between you, you feel the weight of his coat still draped over your shoulders. you finally let yourself smile, leaning closer to him.
â§Â "okay," you murmur. "i get it now."
â§Â he doesnât say anything, but the small, satisfied smile that tugs at his lips says enough.
gepard
â§Â poor gepard takes your âtestâ far too seriously.
â§Â (his face falls immediately, and he starts overthinking everything heâs ever done. heâd even try to change his habits, stumbling through awkward attempts to âloosen up.â âiâi can be fun! watch this!â (proceeds to try something clumsy.))
â§Â testing gepardâs feelings feels almost unfair. heâs so earnest, so genuine, that you almost feel bad for trying to push his limits. but a little part of youâitâs that gnawing insecurity, that need for reassuranceâwants to see how much heâs willing to handle for you.
â§Â it starts during a routine patrol around belobog. you walk beside him, pretending to be engrossed in your surroundings, but youâre really watching him out of the corner of your eye. his posture is as perfect as always, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword, eyes scanning for any sign of trouble.
â§Â "gepard," you say suddenly, interrupting the calm. he turns to you immediately, his expression softening. "yes?"
â§Â you fake a dramatic sigh. "do you ever think you work too hard? like... maybe youâre so busy being a model captain that you donât have time for other things?"
â§Â his brows furrow slightly, clearly not expecting this question. "what do you mean?"
â§Â "i mean, what if someone in your life needed more of your attention? would you even notice?"
â§Â he stops walking, turning to face you fully. thereâs a flash of concern in his blue eyes, and you almost feel guilty for how well this is working.
â§Â "if someone needed me," he says, his voice steady but laced with worry, "iâd do everything in my power to be there for them. are you... trying to tell me something?"
â§Â you wave your hand dismissively, laughing lightly. "oh, no, just a hypothetical. donât worry about it." he doesnât look convinced, but he nods and resumes walking, though you notice he stays closer to your side after that.
â§Â later, you decide to push a little harder. when the two of you are back at the overworld base, you feign exhaustion, slumping dramatically onto a nearby bench.
â§Â "iâm so tired," you complain, rubbing your temples. "today was so stressful. i donât think i can even move."
â§Â before you can say anything else, gepard is already at your side. he crouches slightly, his hands hovering awkwardly as if heâs not sure whether he should offer to help you up or just sit beside you.
â§Â "you should have said something earlier," he says, his voice full of concern. "if youâre overworked, you need to take a break. here, let meâ"
â§Â you cut him off with a teasing smile. "what are you going to do, carry me around belobog like some kind of knight in shining armor?" he freezes for a moment, his cheeks flushing pink. "i mean... if you needed me to, i would."
â§Â you werenât expecting such a sincere answer, and it throws you off balance. your heart flutters, but youâre determined to keep the act going.
â§Â "youâre too sweet, gepard," you say with a grin. "but donât worry, iâm fine. just testing you a little." his blush deepens, and he shifts nervously. "testing me?"
â§Â "yeah," you admit, leaning back against the bench. "just wanted to see how far youâd go for me."
â§Â he frowns, clearly conflicted. "you donât need to test me," he says quietly. "if somethingâs bothering you, you can just tell me. iâd rather you be honest than try to figure things out on your own."
â§Â his words hit you harder than you expected, and you suddenly feel a little guilty.
â§Â "youâre right," you mumble, looking down at your hands. "sorry, i didnât mean to make you worry."
â§Â he sighs softly, then sits beside you, his shoulder brushing yours. "itâs okay," he says after a moment. "i just... care about you. a lot. and i want you to know that you never have to doubt it."
â§Â you glance at him, his expression as open and honest as ever, and your heart aches in the best way.
â§Â "thanks, gepard," you say softly.
â§Â he smiles, and itâs so warm and genuine that you know you didnât need to test him in the first place. heâs always been exactly who he says he isâsteadfast, caring, and utterly devoted.
â§Â âplease, donât do that again. my heart canât take it. but... i do care about you more than anything.â
dr. ratio
â§Â dr. ratio sees through your âstress testâ almost immediately, being as perceptive as he is.
â§Â testing dr. ratio feels like trying to rattle an unshakable pillarâheâs sharp, meticulous, and composed to the point where youâre almost certain heâll see through you immediately. but your curiosity gets the better of you. you want to see if the normally calm and collected doctor could ever crack, even slightly, under your antics.
â§Â you decide to start small, choosing to "stress" him out during one of his intense research sessions.
â§Â "dr. ratio," you call out from across the lab, your tone light and teasing.
â§Â he doesnât look up from his holopad. "yes?"
â§Â "can you explain this to me again? i swear i just donât get it."
â§Â you hold up a tablet displaying a simple analysis youâre perfectly capable of interpreting. itâs the third time youâve asked him about something today, and youâre sure heâs starting to notice.
â§Â he sighs, finally lifting his gaze to meet yours. "are you sure youâre not just overthinking it?"
â§Â "maybe," you say, shrugging. "or maybe youâre just bad at explaining things."
â§Â that earns you a sharp look, and for a split second, you think youâve actually pushed too far. but then his lips twitch, a flicker of amusement breaking through his usual stoicism.
â§Â "bad at explaining things?" he repeats, setting his holopad down. "are you testing my patience, or are you testing my intelligence?"
â§Â "both," you reply with a cheeky grin. he chuckles softly, shaking his head. "if you wanted my attention, you couldâve just asked."
â§Â despite his calm exterior, you notice the subtle way he shifts closer to you, his focus entirely on you now. you canât help but feel a small thrill of triumph, though you know youâre playing with fire.
â§Â later, you decide to up the stakes. while heâs meticulously organizing data, you lean against the desk, deliberately placing your hand over one of his charts.
â§Â "do you ever think about taking a break?" you ask, tilting your head at him. "you work so much, itâs like youâre married to your lab."
â§Â he arches an eyebrow, his gaze flicking to your hand covering his work. "and if i am? does that bother you?"
â§Â "a little," you admit, your tone teasing. "what if you end up ignoring more important things?"
â§Â he leans back in his chair, crossing his arms as he studies you. "and what would those âimportant thingsâ be?"
â§Â his voice is calm, but thereâs a glint in his eyes that makes you feel like youâve walked right into his trap. "me, obviously," you say, trying to maintain your confidence.
â§Â he hums thoughtfully, as if considering your words. then, without warning, he reaches out and gently flicks your forehead.
â§Â "youâre not very subtle," he says, a faint smirk tugging at his lips.
â§Â "ouch," you say, rubbing your forehead with a pout. "was that necessary?"
â§Â "completely," he replies smoothly. "if youâre going to test me, at least make it challenging."
â§Â his words leave you flustered, and you quickly retreat from his desk, muttering something about needing fresh air. but later, when he finds you in the lounge, he sets a cup of tea in front of you without a word.
â§Â "whatâs this for?" you ask, looking up at him.
â§Â "you seemed tense earlier," he says simply. "and since youâre so concerned about me ignoring important things, I thought Iâd remind you that youâre one of them."
â§Â your heart skips a beat at his casual declaration, and for once, youâre at a loss for words. he smirks at your reaction, clearly pleased with himself, before walking away, leaving you to process his unexpected yet reassuring gesture.
â§Â turns out, dr. ratio isnât so easy to testâbut he makes it clear that heâs always paying attention.
â§Â however, he sits you down for a serious talk afterward. âyou donât need to test me. i like youâthat much should be obvious by now.â
aventurine
â§Â aventurine takes your antics in stride but is clearly not one to tolerate nonsense for long.
â§Â but in all seriousness it feels like you're trying to move a mountain. his steadfastness and confidence make it seem impossible to throw him off balance, but youâre determined to see how deep his patience and affection run. you tell yourself itâs just curiosity, but deep down, you crave the reassurance that this larger-than-life man truly feels the same way you do.
â§Â it begins subtly, during one of his routine mineral inspections. heâs meticulously cataloging a haul of rare crystals when you decide to help.â
â§Â âaventurine, whatâs this one called?â you ask, holding up a dazzling gem you already know the name of.
â§Â he barely glances up, his deep voice calm and measured. âthatâs a starshard geode. its structure isââ
â§Â âwait, wait,â you interrupt, turning it over in your hands. âare you sure? it kinda looks like... a moonstone?â
â§Â his head finally lifts, and he looks at you with a mixture of amusement and mild disbelief. âa moonstone? not even close. are you trying to challenge my expertise?â
â§Â âmaybe,â you tease, placing the gem back in the wrong compartment.
â§Â he sighs, but thereâs no frustration in his expression, only a patient shake of his head as he moves the gem back to its proper place. âyouâre impossible,â he mutters, though thereâs a small smile tugging at his lips.
â§Â later, you decide to turn up the heat. as heâs polishing a massive chunk of raw celestium, you sit nearby, swinging your legs off the edge of the table.
â§Â âaventurine,â you say sweetly.
â§Â âmm?â he responds without looking up.
â§Â âdo you ever get tired of being around me?â
â§Â that gets his attention. he pauses mid-polish, his golden eyes narrowing slightly as he turns to face you fully. âwhat kind of question is that?â
â§Â you shrug, feigning nonchalance. âi mean, i can be annoying sometimes. donât you ever just... wish for some peace and quiet?â
â§Â he sets the celestium down with deliberate care and crosses his arms, his imposing figure suddenly feeling even larger.
â§Â âyouâre trying to get a reaction out of me,â he says plainly, his voice as steady as the ground beneath your feet.
â§Â âwhat? me? no way,â you reply, trying to sound innocent.
â§Â he steps closer, leaning down so his face is level with yours. his expression is serious, but thereâs a flicker of amusement in his gaze.
â§Â âif i wanted peace and quiet, i wouldnât be here,â he says firmly. âdo you really think iâd waste my time with someone i donât care about?â
â§Â his straightforwardness leaves you momentarily stunned, and he chuckles softly at your silence. âyou donât need to test me, you know,â he adds, his tone softening. âif you have doubts, just ask. i donât like games, but iâll always give you the truth.â
â§Â you feel a pang of guilt for pushing him, but his reassurance warms your heart. âsorry,â you mumble, looking down. âi just wanted to be sure...â
â§Â he reaches out, gently lifting your chin so youâre forced to meet his gaze.
â§Â âthen let me make it clear,â he says, his golden eyes unwavering. âyou matter to me. and thatâs not going to change, no matter how many gems you mislabel.â
â§Â you laugh softly, the tension melting away as his words sink in. it was clear that his affection for you is as solid and enduring as the earth itself.
boothill
â§Â boothill is rough around the edges but has a soft spot for you, so your little test catches him off guard.
â§Â boothill's unmovable, stone-faced, and never shows signs of cracking, no matter what you throw his way. but thatâs exactly why youâre so curious. youâve seen his stoic side, his professionalism, and his dedication, but does that mean thereâs any space for you in that heart of his? you decide to try and test the waters.
â§Â it begins in a quiet moment, after a long mission. youâre both back at the base, sitting side by side on a bench. boothill is cleaning his weapon, his focus so intense that it feels like nothing in the world could distract him. you watch him for a moment, then decide to start.
â§Â âboothill,â you call out softly.
â§Â he doesnât look up, but you see his fingers pause for a fraction of a second before he resumes cleaning his weapon.
â§Â âyeah?â
â§Â âdo you ever wonder if youâre too... distant? i mean, youâre always so focused, so serious. donât you ever need to relax a bit?â
â§Â he glances at you now, his piercing gaze meeting yours for just a second. but he doesnât answer right away, instead just continuing with his task.
â§Â ârelaxing isnât exactly something i prioritize,â he replies with his usual calm. âthereâs work to be done.â
â§Â you scoff lightly, pushing your luck a little. âwork, work, work. what about you, huh? whenâs it your turn to... i donât know, enjoy life? have some fun?â
â§Â he looks at you then, and thereâs something almost unreadable in his expression. his eyes soften just a fraction, and he lets out a small sigh.
â§Â âif you think i donât enjoy life, youâre wrong,â he says, voice low but surprisingly tender. âi just donât need distractions.â
â§Â you press a little more, feeling a mischievous spark inside you. âso, youâre saying you donât need me to distract you?â
â§Â boothill stops what heâs doing for a moment, and this time, he stares at you, really staring. for a split second, you think youâve gone too far. but then he leans back, folding his arms across his chest, a slight smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth.
â§Â âtesting me, huh?â he says, his voice laced with dry amusement. âyouâre a little more persistent than i expected.â
â§Â you shrug nonchalantly, hoping your nonchalance hides the fact that your heart is pounding. âi just want to know if you care, boothill. i mean, youâre so... detached sometimes. how do i know itâs not all just professional to you?â
â§Â his gaze softens, and for a brief moment, thereâs a vulnerability in his eyes that catches you off guard. then, without warning, he reaches out and gently grabs your hand, pulling it into his lap.
â§Â âcare?â he murmurs, his thumb stroking the back of your hand in slow, deliberate movements. âi care more than you know.â
â§Â your breath catches in your throat, and you feel the weight of his words settle over you like a blanket. the walls heâs built around himself are still there, but now, you realize that inside, thereâs room for you.
â§Â âyou donât need to test me for that,â he adds, his voice low and reassuring. âjust... donât expect me to show it the same way as everyone else.â
â§Â you can feel the sincerity in his touch, in his gaze, and something inside you finally clicks. boothillâs love is subtle, understated, and a little rough around the edges, but itâs real.
â§Â âi get it,â you whisper, squeezing his hand gently. âsorry for making you doubt me.â
â§Â he chuckles quietly, a rare sound that makes your heart flutter. âyouâre relentless. but thatâs why i like you.â
â§Â and there it isâhe may not always wear his heart on his sleeve, but boothillâs love for you is unwavering, and thatâs something you can rely on, even if itâs not always obvious.
gallagher
â§Â gallagher is as easygoing as they come, but even he has limits.
â§Â it starts innocently enoughâjust a playful attempt to poke at his carefully maintained composure. heâs in the middle of preparing a meal, the scent of fresh herbs and sizzling meat filling the air as he moves about the kitchen with his usual precision. you, however, are seated at the table, tapping your fingers lightly against the wood, watching him with a raised eyebrow.
â§Â âgallagher,â you start, your voice casual but laced with curiosity.
â§Â âhm?â he replies, glancing at you briefly before returning to his task.
â§Â âhow do you always manage to keep your cool? i mean, donât you ever get tired of being so... well, perfect?â
â§Â he doesnât look up this time, but thereâs a subtle shift in the air, like heâs sensing youâre trying to test him. his movements are smooth and measured, and he doesnât skip a beat as he finishes plating the food.
â§Â âthereâs no point in losing composure over things that donât matter,â he says matter-of-factly, as if itâs the simplest thing in the world. âchaos doesnât make for a good meal.â
â§Â you bite your lip, leaning back in your chair. âso, youâre saying everything has to be âin its placeâ with you? even with people?â
â§Â his hands freeze for just a moment, and you catch a flicker of something in his expressionâmaybe amusement, maybe something else. but itâs gone as quickly as it came. he finishes plating the meal with a soft sigh, setting the plate in front of you.
â§Â âiâm not a machine, if thatâs what youâre implying,â he says, finally meeting your gaze. âiâm not perfect. i just prefer things to be organizedâhelps with focus.â
â§Â you raise an eyebrow, pushing a bit more. âoh? and does that mean you like it when people donât mess with your focus? or is that just a âyouâ thing?â
â§Â gallagher pauses, studying you carefully. for a moment, the air is thick with tension, but then he smirks slightly, a glimmer of teasing in his eyes.
â§Â âmessing with my focus?â he repeats, his voice playful now. âis that what youâre doing? because, if iâm being honest, itâs working. youâve got my attention now.â
â§Â you blink, taken aback by his response. you expected him to brush it off, but instead, he steps closer, his presence a little more imposing now.
â§Â âyou know,â he continues, his tone lower, âyouâre not as subtle as you think you are. but iâll give you points for persistence.â
â§Â you try to recover, but thereâs something about the way he looks at you that leaves you speechless for a moment.
â§Â âpersistence?â you murmur, a little breathless.
â§Â he nods, his smile softening just enough to show you that itâs genuine. âyouâve got a lot of questions, but i donât need to play games with you. if you want answers, just ask. you donât have to test me to find out if iâm interested.â
â§Â his words hit you harder than you expected, and you realize that gallagher isnât someone to hide his feelings. itâs not that heâs coldâheâs just direct. heâll never say it in the way you might expect, but his actions speak louder than anything else.
â§Â âi guess iâm just used to waiting for things to fall into place,â you admit, trying to play it cool.
â§Â he leans in slightly, the faintest hint of humor in his eyes. âyou donât have to wait with me. iâm already here.â
â§Â his tone is simple, but it carries a weight of meaning that makes your heart skip a beat. gallagher doesnât do drama, but when he gives you his attention, itâs clear that heâs all in, no matter how much he might downplay it.
moze
â§Â moze is a man of few words, and your antics genuinely confuse him. đ°đ°
â§Â he's calm, composed, and always so serious, which makes you determined to break through that cold, unreadable exterior. youâve decided to test his limits, just to see if you can get a real reaction out of him.
â§Â it starts on a typical day after a mission. youâre sitting across from him in the common room, watching as he pores over some data logs. your usual routine involves making things just a little more interesting for him, because letâs face itâmoze needs to lighten up.
â§Â âmoze,â you say, a grin tugging at your lips.
â§Â he doesnât look up, but you can see the slight twitch of his eyebrow. âwhat is it?â
â§Â you make a show of examining the ceiling, tapping your chin dramatically. âhave you ever wondered if the world is actually upside down? like, maybe gravity's all wrong, and weâre just... stuck to the floor by pure luck?â
â§Â moze pauses for a split second, probably wondering how you can turn a perfectly normal moment into this. then, without missing a beat, he glances at you, deadpan.
â§Â âif the world was upside down, i assume you'd be the one stuck on the ceiling by pure luck,â he says flatly, already returning to his work.
â§Â you burst into laughter, but moze doesnât even flinch, just continues typing, his expression still as composed as ever. heâs like a stone statue, and itâs honestly a little impressive.
â§Â âokay, okay,â you say, wiping a tear from your eye. âletâs try something different.â you lean forward, eyes sparkling with mischief. âdo you ever get bored? you know, just sitting there all serious, pretending like youâre too busy to talk?â
â§Â this time, he doesnât even look up from his work. âbored? No. Are you trying to see how far you can push me before i snap?â
â§Â you nod, trying not to smile too widely. âyep! Howâs it going so far?â
â§Â moze lets out a soft sigh, clearly unamused but still managing to hold his ground. âiâm doing great. You, on the other hand... are a handful.â
â§Â âa handful? me?â you gasp dramatically, clutching your chest. âIâm hurt, moze. Iâm just trying to keep things interesting around here!â
â§Â his lips twitch ever so slightly, but itâs almost imperceptible. âyouâre making it interesting... in the same way that throwing a tantrum in a library is interesting.â
â§Â you tilt your head, pretending to consider this for a moment. âso, youâre saying you donât like chaos?â
â§Â âi like order,â he says, never looking away from the screen. âbut if youâre asking if you can test my patience, then yes, youâre doing a very good job of that.â
â§Â you giggle, thoroughly entertained by the way heâs handling you. "oh, come on, just admit it. you love the chaos! You secretly think it's hilarious when I mess with you."
â§Â moze looks up at you for the first time in a while, his expression still all business but with the tiniest glimmer of amusement in his eyes. âif by hilarious, you mean mildly irritating, then yes.â
â§Â âmildly?!â you gasp in faux offense. âIâm doing my best here, moze! how could you rate my efforts so low?â
â§Â he leans back slightly in his chair, finally breaking his stoic routine. âhonestly, iâm impressed youâre still going. most people wouldâve given up by now.â
â§Â âwell, i'm not âmost people,â am I?â you reply with a cheeky smile.
â§Â he smirks ever so slightly, though itâs mostly to himself. âno. clearly.â
â§Â you canât help but giggle, because while moze definitely isnât as easily rattled as others, itâs clear heâs starting to find the humor in your antics.
â§Â âadmit it, moze,â you tease. âiâm the most fun youâve had all week.â
â§Â he raises an eyebrow, finally closing the data pad and turning his full attention to you. âif by âfunâ you mean âannoying distraction,â then yes.â
â§Â you stick your tongue out at him playfully. âyou love me, admit it.â
â§Â moze chuckles dryly, though itâs far from his usual serious tone. âyouâre impossible. But for some reason, i donât mind.â
â§Â âthere it is!â you exclaim, pointing dramatically. âthe confession! finally!â
â§Â he sighs, but thereâs a hint of fondness in his eyes now. âdonât push your luck. iâm still not letting you off the hook for the chaos youâve caused.â
â§Â you grin, leaning back in your seat, satisfied. âyou canât get rid of me that easily, moze. get used to it.â
â§Â âiâm already used to it,â he mutters under his breath, pinching the bridge of his nose and shaking his head.
jiaoqiu
â§Â jiaoqiu is calm and composed, but your âtestâ slowly chips away at his patience.
â§Â his idea of "testing" his patience feels almost like trying to mess with a finely tuned recipeâyou know that if you push too far, something could spoil, but you can't resist seeing how heâll react. the thing about jiaoqiu is that heâs blind, but that doesnât stop him from being as sharp as a knife when it comes to his senses. especially when it comes to cookingâhis true passion.
â§Â youâve noticed something about him, though. the more you âstressâ him, the more attentive he gets, in his own way. itâs kind of like the gameâs in his favor, and youâre slowly realizing he might be playing right along with you.
â§Â one evening, youâre hanging out in the kitchen with jiaoqiu, and youâve already decided to take your "testing" to the next level. as he prepares some of his signature dishesâno surprise, they're the most complex meals imaginable, even though he can't see a thingâyou're doing your best to throw him off.
â§Â âjiaoqiu, are you sure you donât want me to help with that? it looks... dangerous,â you tease, noticing the steam rising from the pot in front of him.
â§Â âdangerous?â he repeats, clearly amused but not thrown off. he moves deftly around the kitchen, the sound of his chopping board in the background. âmy dear, cooking isnât dangerous unless youâre trying to make something impossible.â
â§Â you laugh softly, leaning against the counter. âso, youâre saying if I started pulling the wrong spices out, you wouldnât even notice?â
â§Â he pauses, then lets out a small chuckle of his own. âi might not see it, but i can certainly smell it. and donât think i donât know when youâre reaching for something you shouldnât be.â
â§Â you feign shock, dramatically holding your hands up as if caught in the act. âi would never! i have complete respect for your culinary expertise!â
â§Â jiaoqiu hums, as if pondering your words, but then he continues his cooking with that quiet confidence he always carries. âyouâd be more convincing if you didnât have that mischievous glint in your eye.â
â§Â your grin widens. itâs clear heâs onto you now, but you still try to push. âwell, how would you know? You can't see, after all.â
â§Â âtrue,â he replies calmly, âbut i know the sounds of the kitchen well enough. if you were to drop something, or mess with the ingredients... iâd hear it. the rhythm of it all gives me a good idea of whatâs happening.â
â§Â you blink, stunned. you had been testing him, but jiaoqiu seems to always be one step ahead. how does he know? how can he be so confident?
â§Â âand,â he adds, his voice still soft but with a hint of playfulness, âi know you, [your name].â
â§Â you laugh, finally admitting defeat. âokay, okay! you got me. but seriously, how do you do it? how do you know where everything is?â
â§Â he pauses his cooking and turns toward you, his voice warm yet full of humor. âletâs say iâve had a lot of practice. and when you love something as much as i love cooking, you learn to rely on all your senses, not just sight. even when you canât see, your other senses fill in the gaps.â
â§Â you watch him work for a moment, and despite his lack of eyesight, heâs a master in the kitchen. itâs clear that his expertise comes from much more than just the act of cooking; itâs a connection to the ingredients, the textures, the sounds of each step.
â§Â âokay, but what if i really messed something up? what if i did something totally wrong, just to mess with you?â
â§Â he raises an eyebrowâsomething thatâs only visible through his voice, but you get the feeling heâs smirking. âwell, if you did that, iâd probably just end up fixing it before you even noticed. and then iâd make you do the dishes.â
â§Â you groan, defeated but also thoroughly entertained. âyouâre way too good at this.â
â§Â âyouâre the one testing me, not the other way around,â jiaoqiu reminds you, returning his focus to his cooking. but this time, you can hear the faint warmth in his tone, a reassurance thatâs just for you. âbut donât worry, iâm not going to let you ruin dinner. even if you try to be a little mischievous.â
â§Â thereâs something comforting in the way he handles it allâthe teasing, the games you play, even the mess-ups you deliberately throw his way. he may not be able to see you, but you know he can feel your presence, your energy, and you canât help but feel safe in it. despite his teasing, despite the quiet confidence, jiaoqiu has a way of making everything feel just... right.
â§Â ânext time,â you say, grinning, âiâm going to really throw you off.â
â§Â jiaoqiu just laughs softly, shaking his head as he finishes up his dish. âiâll be waiting, [your name]. iâll be waiting.â
â§Â âbut uh, next time, just ask me. thereâs no need for this kind of... drama.â
sunday
â§Â sunday is all sunshine and joy, but even he can get flustered when you start testing him.
â§Â sunday is a halovian, with those distinct small fluffy wings nestled around his neckâadorably soft and always twitching with his every mood. youâve learned that while he might seem all chill and sunny on the surface, heâs got his own quirks, and if you push him far enough, heâs more likely to play along than snap at you.
â§Â one day, youâre lounging in the living area, and sundayâs sitting across from you, lazily flipping through a book. you canât resist; itâs time for some mischief.
â§Â âhey, sunday,â you call, trying to hide your grin.
â§Â âyeah?â he replies, looking off guard. "have you ever been nervous before? like, nervous nervous?"
â§Â ânervous? me? câmon, iâm practically impossible to ruffle.â he gives you a lighthearted shrug, but you can see the playful challenge in his eyes. heâs used to keeping things breezy, but youâve caught his attention now.
â§Â you press on, deciding to have a little more fun with this. âoh really? well, letâs see... Iâve got a whole list of ways I could mess with you.â
â§Â sunday doesnât seem fazed at first, but you notice the way his fluffy wings twitch a little more with each word you say. itâs like a radar for his moodâyou know heâs still calm, but thereâs something in the way his feathers ruffle when heâs listening to you.
â§Â âwell, youâll have to be a lot sneakier than that if you want to get under my skin,â he says, flashing you that signature grin of his, but now you can see a little spark of competitiveness in his eyes.
â§Â you, of course, arenât backing down. âletâs see if i can. hey, sunday, do you ever get tired of being all... perfect?â you ask, making air quotes around "perfect" with your hands.
â§Â sundayâs wings flutter again, and this time, you catch the faintest shift in his posture. âperfect?â he asks, trying to play it off, but thereâs a subtle twitch in the fluff near his neck. âyouâre really gonna call me perfect? whatâs wrong with that?â
â§Â oh, heâs biting now. perfect. you lean in, voice teasing. âwell, it just seems a little... too easy, donât you think? i mean, youâre always so relaxed, always in control. how do you even do it?â
â§Â you can see sundayâs lips twitch in amusement, and his wings give an exaggerated little flutter, like theyâre bristling. heâs definitely aware now, but the best part is how he's trying to play it cool, still acting like heâs the one in control.
â§Â âyou really think iâve got it all under control, huh?â he responds, a bit of a challenge creeping into his tone. âwell, i guess i am pretty awesome. i mean, who could resist all this charm?â he gestures to himself dramatically, his wings fluffing out like heâs proud of the effect they have.
â§Â you laugh, but donât let up. âoh, iâm sure the charm works, but... do you ever get tired of being this smooth?â you tease, pretending to think it over. âi mean, surely you get a little flustered once in a while, right? just a little bit?â
â§Â thatâs when you see itâa small, barely perceptible shift. sundayâs wings twitch against his neck, brushing lightly as he tries to keep his expression neutral, but you catch it. thereâs a softening in his demeanor, a slight heat creeping into his tone.
â§Â âhuh. so now iâm too smooth?â he teases, but itâs a little less confident now. âmaybe youâre just getting good at finding my weak spots.â
â§Â you smile, leaning back triumphantly. âmaybe. or maybe youâre just too easy to read, sunday.â
â§Â he narrows his eyes playfully, but you catch the small, almost imperceptible shift in his posture as his wings flutter just a little more. it's like theyâre signaling his internal shiftâheâs starting to realize youâre not just playing around.
â§Â âokay, okay,â sunday says with a dramatic sigh, his wings now fully unfurled behind him like a soft, fluffy halo. he rubs the back of his neck and gives you a teasing look. âyou wanna stress me out, huh? well, guess iâll have to turn the tables a little.â
â§Â with that, sunday leans closer, grinning mischievously. his wings brush against his neck again, this time on purpose, causing a soft, tickling sensation that makes you jump a little.
â§Â âhowâs this?â he asks, and now, you realizeâheâs playing his own game. âi think weâre gonna see how you handle me.â
â§Â sundayâs easygoing nature mixed with his unexpected turn in this little game makes it all the more fun. as he continues to toy with you, you canât help but laugh at how well heâs handled your antics.
â§Â âalright, alright,â you admit, finally letting the game end, âyou win. iâll stop testing your patience... for now.â
â§Â his wings flutter triumphantly behind him as he gives you a mock salute, his grin still wide and playful. âyouâre welcome to try again any time, [name]. but you should knowâI donât get flustered that easily. unless...â he pauses, giving you a teasing look, â...you do something even crazier next time.â
â§Â you canât help but smile back. sundayâs laid-back nature might be hard to crack, but itâs clearâhe does enjoy the game, and in the end, heâs always up for a little bit of fun at your expense.
jing yuan
â§Â jing yuan usually keeps his composure, but when you start âtestingâ his patience, he begins to crack ever so slightly.
â§Â jing yuan is the epitome of calm, controlled elegance. he carries himself like a well-balanced scale, measured in his actions and words, always composed, always unfazed. but when you start testing him that balance teeters, just a little, though heâs careful to maintain his outward serenity.
â§Â you know he's a man of patience, but every person has their breaking pointâand you're curious to see how far you can push his.
â§Â it all starts innocently enough, a bit of teasing and mild mischief on your part. you might "accidentally" misplace his paperwork, or maybe ask him endless trivial questions when you know heâs buried in his work. youâre not being cruel, of courseâjust playful, testing the waters to see if heâll falter.
â§Â he humors you at first, a chuckle escaping his lips when you ask something particularly silly. âwhat is it, my dear?â he asks, a gentle smile tugging at his lips, his golden eyes never leaving his work. âanother question for me?â
â§Â but as the questions come one after another, you start to notice a shift. his pen slows, and for a moment, his fingers still. he leans back in his chair, gaze lifting to meet yours.
âyouâre playing a dangerous game, my dear,â he says, his voice low, but laced with amusement. âare you testing me to see if iâll lose interest? because i can assure you, i wonât.â
â§Â thereâs a sharpness to his tone now, the calm facade slipping just slightly. it's subtle, but you catch itâa flicker of something deeper behind his eyes. his gaze darkens with an unreadable emotion, and for the first time, you wonder if you've pushed him too far.
â§Â but youâre not one to back down easily, so you keep going, shifting the game into a new gear. you become a little more persistent, trying to get under his skin without being too obvious. you ask more ridiculous questions, throw in more distractions, all in the name of seeing how he reacts. surely, a man like jing yuan, so steady and composed, would get annoyed eventually, right?
â§Â you watch him for a long moment, his gaze steady and unwavering. His fingers tap lightly on the edge of the desk, his lips curling into a knowing smile.
â§Â "is that what you're after?" he asks, his voice softer, but with a certain challenge in it. "you wish to see how far i'll bend? to see if i can be swayed by such... antics?"
â§Â your breath catches in your throat, and you wonder if youâve finally crossed the line. but instead of growing irritated, jing yuan does something entirely unexpected. he sets his pen down with a deliberate motion and stands up, walking around to your side of the desk. his presence looms over you in the most comforting, yet commanding way.
â§Â before you can even react, he reaches for your hand, his touch warm and steady. âi canât help but wonderâŚâ he begins, his voice dipping into something more intimate, more affectionate than you were prepared for. âdid you think you could test me without consequences?â
â§Â you blink up at him, the playful tension suddenly replaced by a sense of vulnerability. thereâs something in his eyes now, a deep knowing.
â§Â without waiting for an answer, he leans down, his lips brushing lightly against your ear. âyouâre not the only one who can play games, [name],â he murmurs, his warm breath sending a shiver down your spine.
â§Â youâre thrown off balance. the tables have turned, and now itâs you whoâs feeling slightly flustered. where you were once testing him, now heâs testing you. heâs suddenly more attentive, more affectionate, drawing you in with every word, every touch.
â§Â he chuckles softly when he sees your reaction, his golden eyes glinting with amusement. âyou didnât think iâd let you have all the fun, did you?â he teases. âi must admit, iâm rather enjoying this.â
â§Â you open your mouth to respond, but all you manage is a soft laugh, caught between trying to keep your composure and wanting to give in to the sudden wave of warmth heâs throwing your way.
â§Â âalright, jing yuan,â you say, trying to maintain your cool, but failing miserably. âiâll admit defeat... for now.â
â§Â his smile widens, a gentle but confident grin. âdefeat? no, my dear. this isnât about defeat. this is about knowing where we stand. and now that iâve shown you, i expect no more games.â
â§Â his words hang in the air like a promise, and you realize heâs not just testing youâheâs reassuring you, in his own way. with him, you never had to worry about being lost in his affection, because itâs clear: heâs always there, steady as ever.
â§Â and just like that, the game you started has endedâonly now, itâs more than you ever expected.
dan heng
â§Â dan heng is the embodiment of calm and collected. his reserved nature and stoic expression almost never crack, even under the most trying of circumstances. it takes a lot to throw him off balance, which is why youâve made it your mission to see if you can break that calm demeanor of hisâjust a little.
â§Â at first, you start small. maybe you ask him to help you with something youâre perfectly capable of doing yourself, like reaching for a book youâre clearly just a bit too lazy to grab. you catch him off guard, but as expected, heâs kind enough to help without comment.
â§Â âthank you, dan heng,â you say with an exaggerated sigh of relief.
â§Â he gives you a short, quiet nod, his expression unchanged. âitâs no trouble,â he mutters, though thereâs a faint suspicion in his voice.
â§Â you smile innocently, but itâs not lost on you how quickly heâs growing aware of your game. so, you keep at it, asking for more and more âhelpâ with things youâre fully capable of doing on your own. every time he obliges, you see his eyes narrow ever so slightly, and you can almost feel the gears turning in his head as he processes what's going on.
â§Â âdan heng,â you ask one day, leaning into the playful tension between you two, âcould you pass me the salt?â the shakerâs right in front of you, of course.
â§Â thereâs a long pause. his gaze flicks over to the salt shaker, then back to you, his brow furrowing just the tiniest bit. âyouâre not really that helpless, are you?â he asks, his voice quiet but sharp.
â§Â you feign surprise. âiâm not? you sure?â
â§Â he doesnât respond right away, his fingers tapping lightly on the surface of the table. you can practically see the wheels turning behind his eyes.
â§Â âi know youâre not,â he says finally, voice even but tinged with a little irritation now. âso, what are you trying to prove?â
â§Â you chuckle softly, realizing youâve definitely gotten under his skin now. but itâs more out of curiosity than maliceâyou want to see how far you can go before he snaps, how long heâll let you test him before he turns the tables.
â§Â âoh, nothing,â you say innocently. âjust wanted to see if youâd do it without asking questions.â
â§Â dan hengâs eyes narrow, and for the first time in this little game, he seems to truly study you, as if trying to gauge your intentions.
â§Â âyouâre not as subtle as you think,â he finally says, his tone firm but not unkind. âyouâre trying to get a reaction out of me, arenât you?â
â§Â you grin, leaning back with a satisfied look. âmaybe... whatâs the harm?â
â§Â dan heng stands up from his seat, a deep sigh escaping his lips as he slowly gathers his things. you know youâve pushed him a little, but youâre unsure if heâs genuinely upset or just playing along.
â§Â âfine,â he mutters. âyou want a reaction? here it is.â
â§Â you blink as he steps closer, his usual reserved demeanor slipping as he looks down at you with a slight, almost imperceptible frown. âif i didnât care about you, i wouldnât even be here, helping you with these ridiculous requests. so, stop trying to push my patience.â
â§Â you freeze for a moment, surprised at how direct and blunt heâs being. thereâs no anger in his wordsâjust a quiet frustration, the kind that comes from realizing how much youâve been testing him.
â§Â he lets out a short laugh, shaking his head as if he canât quite believe what heâs dealing with. âhonestly, iâm not sure if youâre trying to get me to lose my patience or just see how far you can push me.â
â§Â you smile sheepishly, knowing youâve been a little relentless with your âtests.â âi guess a bit of both,â you admit, but thereâs a softness in your voice now. âi just wanted to see if youâd care enough to call me out on it.â
â§Â dan heng sighs deeply, but now thereâs a warmth to his expression that wasnât there before. he steps closer and places a hand gently on your shoulder, the touch more tender than you expected. âi care enough to call you out, even if it means putting up with your nonsense.â
â§Â itâs quiet for a moment, but you can feel the sincerity in his words. youâve definitely ruffled his calm, but in a way that shows just how much heâs paying attention, how much he truly cares for you.
â§Â you laugh lightly, not expecting him to be so honest about it, but secretly glad to know youâve gotten through to him. âiâll try not to test you so much, okay?â
â§Â dan heng shakes his head, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. âiâll believe it when i see it.â
welt yang
â§Â welt, being the mature and experienced gentleman he is, notices your little âtestâ immediately.
â§Â the man is used to dealing with delicate matters, whether in his long history of research, his time as a historian, or the countless responsibilities that come with leading in times of crisis. so, when you start testing his patience, you know itâs going to take a lot more than a small inconvenience to shake him. that being said, you enjoy challenging him, just a little, to see how far you can push him.
â§Â you start off small, of course. asking him the most trivial questions when heâs in the middle of reading one of his ancient books. âhey, welt,â you say sweetly, âdo you think this book is boring?â the bookâs not even in your hands, and he knows that youâre probably more interested in him than in the actual content of the text.
â§Â at first, he doesnât mind. he chuckles softly and lowers the book, humoring you with a small smile. âif iâm being honest, i would say it depends on your taste in reading. but you do know i canât really afford distractions right now, right?â
â§Â you smile, but this isnât nearly enough to throw him off. you push again, dropping little hints like the fact that heâs been at his desk for hours on end and could probably use a break. you make a comment about how heâs always so serious, so focused, and maybe you should help him lighten up.
â§Â âyou know,â you tease, âyou work too hard. you should take a break. come on, just for a minute?â
â§Â welt sets the book down and looks at you, raising an eyebrow. âiâm not sure if i would call it âworkâ if iâm doing something i enjoy, but i do appreciate the concern. perhaps you have something else in mind to keep me occupied?â
â§Â his tone is light, playful even, but thereâs something in his eyes that suggests heâs well aware of your intentions. heâs not the type to get easily upset, but that doesnât mean he hasnât picked up on your little game.
â§Â âyou really know how to throw me off track, donât you?â he says with a smile, clearly amused by your antics. âis this your way of seeing how far iâll go before i lose my cool?â
â§Â you grin, not backing down. âmaybe. you seem so calm all the time. i wanted to know if i could make you flinch, just a little.â
â§Â welt lets out a soft laugh, leaning back in his chair. âyouâre testing me now, arenât you? i suppose i shouldâve expected as much from you.â
â§Â you notice his hands move to the side of his glasses, adjusting them ever so slightly, and thatâs when you realize: heâs fully aware of whatâs going on.
â§Â âyou know, itâs cute that you think iâm impervious to distractions,â he continues, clearly enjoying your playful attempts. âbut perhaps you underestimate how well iâve learned to focus in the midst of chaos.â
â§Â you canât help but laugh at that, realizing that no matter how hard you try, youâre not going to make him flinch. heâs too smooth, too used to handling these kinds of things.
â§Â âmaybe i should stop testing you,â you say, a bit sheepishly. âyouâre just too good at staying calm.â
â§Â welt smiles knowingly. âiâve had plenty of practice, but if you really want to test me further, iâm sure there are other ways to do so.â he leans forward, raising an eyebrow, his voice turning just a bit teasing. âbut iâm not so easily caught off guard, dear. if you want to see me lose my composure, youâll have to be a little more creative.â
â§Â you blink in surprise at how easily he flipped the situation on its head, and then it dawns on you: youâve just been outplayed.
â§Â he notices the realization in your expression and gives you an amused glance. ânow, if youâre really interested, i can give you some advice on how to keep your distractions less obvious in the future. but donât expect me to fall for it again so easily.â
â§Â you canât help but laugh. âalright, alright, you win this round.â
â§Â welt chuckles softly, picking up his book again. âitâs not about winning or losing, but about knowing how to handle what comes your way. and if you ever need a distraction, you know where to find me.â
â§Â âbut do you know, if you want reassurance, you only need to ask. i donât play games when it comes to my feelings for you.â my man does NOT play when it comes to you!! đ
ââď¸ đ
ââď¸
blade
â§Â he is stoic, so basically this feels like poking a sleeping tiger. youâd try to stress him out by being overly affectionate in public or daringly teasing him in front of the stellaron hunters.
â§Â blade is a man of few words, and even fewer smiles. so when you start poking at him, trying to get a rise out of him, you know youâre walking a fine line. but thatâs exactly what you want, isnât it? to see just how much you can push before he cracks.
â§Â it starts with small, playful jabs. teasing him about his stoic nature, of course. you know heâs not the type to express himself easily, but that doesnât stop you from trying to bring out something more from him.
â§Â âblade, do you ever smile? i think iâd faint if i saw it.â
â§Â you say it with a mischievous grin, watching for any sign of a reaction. his first response is the usual â a glare that could melt steel. but thereâs something else in his eyes, a flicker of something that tells you heâs holding back a smirk. deep down, you know he secretly enjoys your antics.
â§Â âyouâre really trying to get me to laugh, arenât you?â he says, his voice low and steady, though it has a hint of something playful beneath it.
â§Â you push further, though, not willing to let up so easily. âcome on, blade. you canât possibly be that serious all the time. itâs like youâre stuck in permanent brooding mode.â
â§Â and thatâs when the situation takes a turn. before you can even process it, he grabs your wrist with surprising speed, pulling you close, his voice dropping even lower, sending a shiver down your spine.
â§Â âyou think iâd waste my time with someone i didnât care about? donât test me.â
â§Â his words come with an intensity that you didnât expect, his presence so overpowering that it almost takes the air out of your lungs. you blink, momentarily taken aback, but you donât back down. the playful teasing lingers in the air, even though you can tell that youâve crossed the line.
â§Â but blade, in his own way, seems to realize that. after a moment, he releases his grip on your wrist, letting out a quiet sigh. the edge of his tone softens, just slightly.
â§Â âyouâre important to me,â he mutters, his voice low but genuine. âstop doubting that.â
â§Â thereâs no grand declaration, no flowery words. just the blunt honesty of a man whoâs difficult to read, yet in his own way, heâs showing you something far deeper than what words could ever convey.
â§Â you watch him for a moment, realizing that, despite all his coldness, thereâs a warmth buried deep beneath the surface â one that heâs not so quick to reveal, but itâs there, unmistakable in its own quiet way.
â§Â âi guess iâll just have to take your word for it, huh?â you say with a smirk, trying to lighten the mood once more.
â§Â blade doesnât respond with a smile, but the slightest hint of amusement flickers in his eyes. and maybe, just maybe, thatâs his version of a win.
sampo koski
â§Â sampo loves games, so he immediately plays along with your little âtest.â
â§Â sampo has always been the life of the party, the one with a smile on his face and a witty comeback ready for anything. so when you start throwing him off with your uncharacteristic seriousness, itâs like throwing a wrench in his well-oiled machine of flirtations.
â§Â you donât laugh at his jokes, you donât play along with his flirtations, and you certainly donât give him the usual banter heâs used to. instead, you respond with an almost eerie level of calm.
â§Â âoh? no witty comeback today? youâre scaring me, sweetheart,â he teases, leaning back, watching you with an exaggerated frown as though heâs genuinely concerned. you can see the twinkle in his eyes, but heâs trying to hold it together.
â§Â at first, you donât budge. you just stare at him, deadpan, giving nothing away.
â§Â he blinks a few times, clearly thrown off. then, he lets out a dramatic sigh. âoh no, whatâs happening? is this⌠a breakup? did i mess up somehow? what did i do wrong? i can change! i swear, iâll stop with the flirtationsâiâll even stop trying to steal your snacks!" he says, eyes widening as though he's on the verge of a crisis.
â§Â the way he overacts is so ridiculous that itâs hard to keep a straight face. but youâre committed, your expression still unreadable as you let him stew in the nonsense heâs coming up with.
â§Â when you finally canât hold it in anymore and let out a soft laugh, his entire demeanor shifts. in an instant, his playful grin is back, and he pulls you into a sudden hug.
â§Â âsweetheart, if i didnât like you, i wouldnât stick around this long. but nice try!â he says between chuckles, his voice playful and warm.
â§Â you canât help but smile at his antics. he may act like heâs been genuinely stressed out, but deep down, you know heâs been enjoying every minute of your teasing.
â§Â he pulls back just enough to look at you, eyes sparkling mischievously. âyou really had me going there for a second. but hey, now i know you care enough to test me. iâll take it as a compliment.â
â§Â you shake your head, still amused by his dramatic performance. âdonât ever change, sampo.â
â§Â he winks at you, his usual grin returning in full force. âdonât worry, sweetheart, iâm never going to change⌠unless itâs to make you laugh more.â
luocha
â§Â luocha is patient and gentle, but even he has his limits. youâd try to test him by asking endless hypothetical questions about relationships or intentionally making vague statements about your feelings.
⧠when you start throwing questions his way, testing his patience with doubts about his feelings, you know heâll handle it with the same serenity he always exudes. but the longer it goes on, the more you start to wonder if youâre pushing him too far.
â§Â âwhat if someone better came along?â you ask casually, watching his expression for a hint of reaction. itâs a harmless question in your mind, but you can tell he takes it seriously.
â§Â he pauses, his hand resting gently on his chin, thinking it through before answering with his usual calmness. âif someone better came along, then youâd deserve to find happiness with them, just as I would wish for your happiness no matter the circumstances.â
â§Â his response isnât what you expected. itâs thoughtful, selfless, and it makes you question your own intentions. but you canât help yourself â you press on, seeking reassurance in the form of his steady words.
â§Â âbut what if you donât feel the same as you did before? what if you find someone who catches your eye more than me?â
â§Â luochaâs gaze softens as he listens to your words. thereâs no anger in his eyes, no irritation. only concern, as if heâs trying to understand why you would even think such a thing. his voice remains calm, but now thereâs a slight edge to it, as if the question weighs on him more than you realize.
â§Â âare you trying to test me?â he asks, tilting his head slightly, his brow furrowing just enough to show heâs genuinely curious. âi hope you know i mean every word iâve said to you. my feelings are not something i take lightly.â
â§Â youâre taken aback, your mind racing as you realize just how much this is affecting him. you werenât trying to hurt him; you just wanted to see if he truly cared. but now, the weight of your questions hangs heavy in the air.
â§Â seeing the uncertainty in your eyes, he lets out a small, almost imperceptible sigh. he reaches out, taking your hand in his, offering you a reassuring smile that radiates warmth.
â§Â âthereâs no need for doubt,â he says softly, his voice gentle yet firm. âmy feelings for you are genuine, and they wonât change based on fleeting insecurities. you are the only one i see, the only one i care for.â
â§Â his words carry a weight that resonates deep within you, his sincerity undeniable. you feel a warmth spread through your chest, a sense of relief washing over you.
â§Â âiâm sorry,â you say, a little embarrassed by how far youâve pushed him. âi didnât mean to make you doubt how much i care.â
â§Â luocha chuckles softly, his thumb brushing gently over the back of your hand. âitâs alright,â he says, his voice filled with understanding. âi know youâre just seeking reassurance. but i hope this is enough to put your mind at ease.â
â§Â you nod, grateful for his patience and the depth of his affection. his unwavering calmness and the way he handles your doubts only make you feel even more certain that, with him, you never need to worry about someone else coming along.

AEIWAM How does the chain of command work? What are the seated officers *supposed* to be doing? What's the lowest rank? What is the least yell-able rank? Which job looks silly on paper but is actually really load bearing? Anything you want an excuse to rant about on this topic?
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e7e59334fe27991a65cc472f825ef9b5/959b993ee90ac9d8-a7/s540x810/e39c92b49a4836b98fb26869fd67eb97c134b358.jpg)
Yeah ok I'll ramble:
So there's how the Divisions are SUPPOSED to work:
Every division of the Gotei-13 consists of exactly 200 members, 20 of which are seated officers. The top two positions are the "Captain" and "Lieutenant".
The Captain (#1) is in charge of EVERYTHING but directly in charge of seated officers 2-10
The Lieutenant (#2) is in charge of seated officers 11-20
Officers 20-11 are usually in charge of the division's regular/maintenance functions, officers 9-3 are in charge of whatever special projects are going on
Seated officers 3-20 each then have 9 of the remaining 180 rank-and-file shinigami assigned to them to carry out whatever orders
Captains can have Duplicate Officers of the same rank (Shunsui's Co-lieutenants or Ukitake's teo 3rd seats), but they are not allowed to have more than 20 seated officers total (there is no 8th or 13th 20th seat)
...And then there's how the divisions *actually* work.
First of all, almost nobody actually sticks to the "Exactly 200 People Per Division" rule. The rule was put in by the Central 46 to prevent the Gotei-13 from growing too large and becoming a military force that could unbalance the government.
The ones who do stick to it currently are:
Yamamoto (Sticking to the rules out of fear of the C46)
Komamura (But doing other chicanery mentioned below)
Zaraki (AT THE ABSOLUTE LIMIT OF HIS ATTENTION SPAN)
Some Captains are a bit up shit creek in that their division is in charge of WAY MORE SHIT THAN 200 PEOPLE CAN ACTUALLY DO.
Unohana got really creative about what counted as a "Consultant" or "Assistant" or "Temporary Hire" until she finally had enough damn people to actually run the seireitei's primary shinigami and civilian hospital, several major civil services (until the Ninth took over the Archives under Tousen and the Eleventh took over Sanitation under Zaraki).
Soi Fon has done something similar by stretching the definition of things she's "In Charge Of". Parts of the Onmitsukido, Shihouin clan retainers, Mercenaries etc.
Mayuri decided to stretch the definition of what counted as "People".
More commonly, captains will have a handful of people they pay under the table to help with tasks someone needs to do but doesn't need a Shinigami- errand-runners, tech support etc.
Rose and Byakuya have like, six extra people a piece, mostly for small tasks that otherwise gum up the works or that are major QoL improvements for the squad. Tea ladies, messengers, someone who bakes snacks and tidies the common areas. Housekeeping.
Tousen employs like 15-20 extra people in the 9th because they were already on the verge of becoming a substitute social service when he took over. He would have hired more but Aizen didn't want questions. Ukitake and Shunsui employ a similar number of off-the-books division members- Ukitake sort of absorbed the Kido corps after Tessai vanished and Shunsui has a Whole Lotta Finance Consultants.
MATSUMOTO has like. 50 extra people on the books. QOL improvements, minor task monkeys, couple of recently deceased consultants with the latest in new tech and organizational science⌠Okay, and a bunch of people she hired basically to help them out. Old lady Yamazaki, the two local street bums (you notice how nothing EVER gets stolen or vandalized at the tenth?), a bunch of academy kids from the shitstain districts of the rukongai who can't afford board I mean really I found Daisuke sleeping in with the training dummies did you want me to LEAVE him there?
...And then some people are running divisions of LESS than 200 people.
Shinji keeps forgetting to hire more people to replace people who retired.
Gin never actually figured out HOW to hire new people.
On the Far Opposite end of this nonsense is Komamura, who has gotten the 7th into such a well-oiled and efficient machine that he doesn't actually NEED all 200 members, so he keeps his additional staff on the actual payroll via clever use of Expense Reports.
Furthermore, what any given seated officer is actually in charge of varies wildly not only by Division but also by individual captains.
Unohana puts all her seated officers in charge of specific branches of medicine (anesthesiology, endrocinology, toxicology, etc.) and as far as she's concerned 3-20 are all the same rank.
Shunsui put himself and his lieutenants in charge of the 8th's regular functions (Finance) so he could deploy his 19 other officers to investigate all the fucking white-collar crime he got saddled with managing.
It's not clear if Zaraki ever actually assigned ranks to officers 4-20. He's captain, Ikkaku is is right hand, Yumichika is effectively-his co-lieutenant-but-wanted-the number-3 spot and there is a pack of 17 other guys that have men assigned to them but *what number seated officer they actually are* is a division secret. Partly because, like his favorite captain, every officer that is not his lieutenant is the same rank as far as Zaraki is concerned, and partly because if some district daimyo or minor noble demands to see the highest-ranked available officer available for their trifling matter, whoever he sends is now his "Fourth Seat". He's had as many as a dozen "Fourth Seat" Officers deployed at once!
The Tenth Division under captain Shiba always had the same teams- once you were assigned to a seated officer, the only way to change your coworkers was to get promoted. Under Captain Matsumoto, your co-workers change every week. Some seated officers have as many as 30 people assigned to them, some as little as two, and what officer you're working under changes as needed.
Lieutenant is probably the worst job in the Gotei-13.
It's the same as being a seated officer except you're responsible for the other officers instead of rank-and-file, you have to go to way more meetings and if something happens to your captain, you're acting captain until further notice
Does come with a SWEET pay raise tho
As the captains have to answer to Yamamoto, the Lieutenants have to answer to Sasakibe, the Gotei-13's Shadow King.
Sasakibe is a very quiet, almost forgettable man which is hilarious because he holds the positions of Lieutenant-captain of the Gotei-13, Headmaster of Genryusai Academy, and Gotei-13 Liaison to the Central 46. The man is the single most powerful person in soul society after Yamamoto and Yamamoto's Ex-Wife.
The lieutenants see him more often than any captain sees Yamamoto, often when they would least like to. He has a habit of Suddenly Appearing when they're in the middle of something embarassing.
Chojiro Sasakibe refuses to admit that there is even the remotest possibility that Yamamoto will predecease him, so in lieu of having to take over as "Acting Captain-General", Sasakibe regards his primary duty as Lieutenant-Captain to prepare all the lieutenants under him to become future captains. ALL of them, because he can't actually talk Yamamoto out of a poor pick once the man gets an idea into his head. The twelfth division has been a SHAMBLES because he hasn't been able to change Yamamoto's mind about the importance of R&D vs Reliable Provisioning. Maybe Mayuri will poison himself and Lieutenant Kurotsuichi can take over. She's *DELIGHTFULLY* reliable.
If he can't get the captains to train their (possible) replacements, BY THE SOUL KING'S NUTS HE WILL. He's had to do a lot of work with Poor Master Kira, but he thinks the boy still has potential. Miss Hinamori will need a lot of rehabiliation too, and Miss Suragaki needs to be outright domesticated so Captain Hirako is NOT ALLOWED TO DIE any time soon.
Some of them he's quite pleased with, actually. Master Macheriyo has come out quite nicely, but the Omaedas have always been strong stock in Sasakibe's mind. He was very upset when Seinosuke Yamada left to become the chief of medicine at the Seireitei's private hospital but Miss Koetetsu has exceeded his wildest expectations. Miss Kuchiki has not only filled Lieutenant Shiba's shoes, but gone up a size. He is not looking forward to the impending "Three Captains Kuchiki" situation though.
The Eleventh has always been an unmanageable dumpster fire but Lieutenant Madarame and Lieutenant-But-Third-Seat Aseyagawa put him somewhat at ease. With Sasakibe's rotten luck, Zaraki is probably immortal but he has two of the most organized men in soul society to think for him so it'll probably be alright.
The thing he's REALLY looking for is someone to train as HIS OWN replacement- he assumes he will die first, and SOMEONE will need to take care of Yamamoto-Sama in his place. He thought he'd found that in Komamura, possibly his favorite shinigami he's ever trained, but it was not to be. He currently has high hopes for Liuetenant Ise should something happen to him.
It will not. It's going to be MUCH more annoying than that.
The hallmark of a great lieutenant is that they can take over for their captain at the drop of a hat, and most captains regularly put their lieutenants in charge as "Acting Captain" for brief periods to practice.
Unohana puts hers in charge the most often, because she regularly has to go do surgery where she can't be interrupted. Isane Koetetsu is Acting Captain at least twice a week, and once had to take to role on for a solid month!
Ukitake has semi-regularly scheduled "Dead Days" where he's in the office but nobody is allowed to acknowledge him, so he can see how they run and give concrit to his lieutenant. It helps his division cope with his illness, but one time a picture of him asleep with his feet on his desk and a piece of paper taped to his face reading "I'M DEAD, GO ASK RUKIA" escaped the context of the 13th and there was Bedlam about it.
Zaraki has either never or always had Ikkaku in the position of "Acting Captain" and neither of them will clarify that situation.
Tousen didn't *intentionally* put Shuuhei in charge- he tried to avoid it to keep his beloved lieutenant out of Aizen's Circle Of Influence, but Shuuhei is like a border collie in that if he is not Being Helpful RIGHT NOW HE WILL EXPLODE AND DIE, and so, like a border collie, Shuuhei kept inventing jobs for himself and taking over any random task that was not immediately explicitly someone's job so when Tousen got abducted Shuuhei was doing like 60% of the work already.
Gin NEVER put Izuru in the role of "Acting Captain", he just foisted all his responsibilities onto the boy with none of the authority which has made him a nervous wreck. Captain Otoribashi, on the other hand, casually decided "I need the day off to go see a preformance of Bizet in the 3rd district, Izuru you're captain until i get back, BYE~!" and was only stopped from breezing out the door by Izuru's immediate scream of panic. They're working on it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ford was acting⌠different. More distant than usual, moreâŚ. Off-putting.
He always had a sort of off-kiltered charm in the way he interacted with you, always flipping between being overly confident in himself, and tripping over his own words at the sight of you. Like something in his brain didnât compute that you were together, that you were his. You got used to this after a few months of dating the researcher, and it evened out for a bit⌠but now it seems heâs reverted back to his old ways, from before you started dating.
One second he would be holding you tight, saying how much he loved you and wanted you by his side for the rest of his life, but then the next he would push you away to go âmeditateâ in his lab. He would stay there for hours, only coming up for more coffee. (and strangely enough, to shove forks into his hands when he thought you werenât looking)
You decided that enough was enough when one evening you realised you hadn't seen him all day. He must've gotten up before you to go to his lab, and hadnât come up since then.
You went on a search for him all around the house, hoping he wasn't in that god-forsaken lab, but it seems god wasnât on your side.
When you found him, you saw him sitting hunched over at his desk, writing something down aggressively. You tried to gently touch his shoulder, but the movement caused him to jump so high up from his chair he almost hit the ceiling. You, of course, were startled by the sudden movement and took a step back from him.
He slowly turned to you and his faceâŚ. His eyesâŚ. Something about them was wrong. Maybe it was the lack of sleep on his part or your worrying, but you could swear his eyes looked⌠off. They were slightly different than you remembered, but you decided to brush it off for the time being, more focused on talking some sense into your boyfriend.
âHey ford? Can i⌠talk to you?â you said gently, trying not to frighten him again. He shook his head a bit, as if trying to shake off some grub from his face and turned to you with an annoyed look. âNot now, honey . Canât you see I'm working?â He said the pet name with a mocking voice, as if he was making fun of you for thinking youâre more important than his work.
âI know you are, but you're starting to worry me⌠when was the last time you ate? Or drank water? Or even went to the bathroom?â you tried to push back the uncomfortable feeling threatening to overtake your words, your voice slightly shaking when you asked him the questions.Â
âIt doesnât matter . All that matters is finishing this pageâ and with that he went back to his desk, sitting down and ignoring you as if you didnât exist.
Now you were starting to get angry. âWhat do you mean it doesnât matter? Your health is important! If you don't take care of yourself then you wonât live to see your progress come to fruition!â you put your hand on his shoulder again, more firmly this time. âI made you dinner. Now youâre going to come with me, eat dinner, drink some water and go to sleep. Do you understand?â you turned him around in his chair to look at you. He seemed to flip through several emotions before deciding on one. You didn't quite know what it was, but he was smiling, so you thought he might have finally come to his senses and decided to take a break.
You were only half right.
âYou know what? Youâre right, toots. I'll take a break, but only if i can take you tooâ he brought you onto his lap in one swift, strong motion and put his lips against your neck. The sudden movement made a chill run up your spine. You didnât know if you were more turned on or worried, but ultimately decided that maybe thisâll help ground him and bring the ford you loved back.
You wrapped your hands around his neck and kissed him passionately. It took a moment for him to register what was happening until he kissed you back, hungrily kissing you and suddenly biting at your tongue. It wasnât something you were used to, and it definitely surprised you, but it wasnât unwelcomed.
You pulled away a little and he went back to attacking your neck with his lips and teeth, leaving various marks that made your breath hitch. His calloused hands started exploring your body as if it was his first time, awkwardly angling his fingers to touch every part of you from your ankles to your shoulders, and finally down to your breasts.
âGod youâre mine now, arenât you?â The question confused you, since youâve been dating for a while now, but you decided to go along with it. Maybe it was a new kink of his âyes iâm all yoursâ you punctuate your point by gently scraping your nails down his chest and onto the waistband of his pants. He groaned at the feeling of your nails on him, his chest puffing up to meet your touch. You chuckle at his desperation. âSo needy⌠youâve missed me, haven't you?â you tease him lightly, but it didnât affect him like it usually does. Instead he seems⌠unfazed âsure i haveâ he then picks you up and moves you so youâre lying chest down on his desk, and heâs behind you, pushing your middle down so your ass is up in the air for him.
He stands up and you can hear him opening his belt buckle behind you. He seems to be struggling, so you try to turn to him and help him, but he only pushes you down more. âStupid.. Human⌠clothes⌠ughâ you hear him mumbling, but you canât say anything when you suddenly feel his cold hands under your shirt, feeling you up. You moan under his touch, then hiss as he pinches your waist in an unpleasant way.Â
âHey-ah!â you try to scold him, but are interrupted by the feeling of cold air hitting your sensitive area. Ford has pulled down your pants and underwear, and is now angleing himself behind you. You moan as you feel him push himself against you, his chest flat against your back. It takes him a second to push himself inside you, but when he does, he fills you up immediately.Â
You groan at the sharp pain mixed with the pleasure of having him inside you after so long without him. Before you register what's happening, he starts thrusting into you wildly, with no rhythm or consistency. You try your best not to moan, but it's hard when you feel him pushing into you in such a harsh way.Â
He holds your hips firmly, trying to stop your squirming. âCome on- ah~ do the thingâ you hear him grunting behind you. It feels so good, but the statement still confuses you through the fog of pleasure. What does he mean by âthe thingâ? Your train of thought is stopped when his hand travels to your throat, choking you a little. The sudden feeling of lightheadedness makes you even hornier. This doesnât feel like something ford would do, but damn it turns you on.
His thrusts start to even out, he doesn't slow down but now they have more of a rhythm. With each one the desk starts to creak under you. Itâs straight up animalistic the way he pounds into you, holding onto you like youâre his toy, only used for his pleasure. You feel him twitching inside you, getting close to his release. You clench around him the way you know he likes, and suddenly he cums inside of you. You feel the pleasure inside you come to a peak as he continues to thrust at the same pace, even though he just came.Â
The pleasure quickly turns into overstimulation as he continues at his rough pace, not letting you go until he finishes inside you again. Your moans turn into screams as you can't even form a coherent thought. At this point you almost reach a second orgasm, but when he suddenly pulls out at you, youâre forced to come down from your high. You whine at the loss and turn around to see him with his hands up in shock, looking down at you guiltily.Â
âWhat's wrong ford?â you look up at him with lustful eyes, wanting him to continue.Â
âI.. uh- nothing is wrong! I'm sorry!â What is he apologising for? âItâs alright, but can you please continue?â now you were frustrated, hoping he would get the hint and continue fucking you.Â
âYe-yeah sure.. Of curseâ he gently put his hands on your hips, almost hesitating before feeling you up. He gently runs his hand down your stomach and lands on your thigh, stabilising you before slowly entering you. You moan at the sudden change in him. âWhat has gotten into you- ah!â you moan as he softly circles your clit with his fingers while he starts thrusting into you. You put your hands around his neck and he buries his head in your chest. You hear him mumbling something but you canât understand it.Â
He starts pushing in and out of you gently, and the stark contrast from just a second ago makes you confused. What is with him today? You try to dwell on it, but when he starts kissing your chest, fondling your breast with his mouth, your thought process is cut short.Â
Thanks to his expert fingers on your clit and his even thrusting, you go over the edge. You moan his name as you pull him up to kiss him. It all feels like too much as he stops moving, focusing on kissing you. He pulls out shortly after, taking his time now.
âDoes this mean youâre gonna take a break? I think dinner is getting coldâ you say softly, kissing his cheek.
âWhat? Oh yeah- yeah- of course honeyâ when he says the pet name this time, it feels genuine, like it just rolls off his tongue naturally. You look at him, and find his familiar eyes looking back into yours- slightly confused but loving and caring. This is your ford. The one you fell in love with.
You try to pull yourself off the desk but your legs start wobbling, so ford takes you by the waist and guides you up the stairs. âIâm sorryâ he apologises once again, but you reach up to stroke his cheek âitâs alright, i kind of⌠liked itâ
You see a flicker of something dangerous in his eye before it switches to looking terrified, then concerned. âWell.. I'm glad you liked it, but I don't know what came over me. Iâm still sorry if i hurt you, my dearâ you thought he might be hiding something from you, but that was a discussion for another day. For now, you got your old ford back, and thatâs all that matters.
âItâs.. alright. Just give me a warning next time. Jeezâ you laugh a little, and you see he starts to relax against you.Â
âYeah.. iâll tryâ he seems to be lost in thought, but as you enter the kitchen and he sees the dinner you made him, he suddenly loses his train of thought and looks at you like you just brought him the moon.Â
âThank you! Thank you! Thank you so much! I'm starving!â he picks you up and kisses you, slightly wincing as he feels his muscles tense up after not being in use for who knows how long. He lets go of you and you both go to eat. Youâll have to talk to him sometime soon about your worries, but you stop yourself when you see the look he gives you; full of love and adoration, like youâre the sun to his earth. You decide to confront him another day. You wouldnât want to ruin a perfect dinner, would you?
TW: Talk about mental health and sui ideation and sui attempt
I feel the need to talk more about Jayce's "attempt" again because of what I learned from his journal in the "Council Archives"
There's a fair argument to be made that Jayce was already in a very bad headspace even BEFORE the explosion in his apartment.
If you read Jayce's journals it feels like Jayce was ALREADY spiraling before he got kicked out of the academy. For a few reasons.
-----
1.Jayce was very isolated to begin with.
He was working on experiments he knew were illegal and was so paranoid about being found out he started coming up with insults to call another student who almost caught him throwing away a failed experiment.
He also seemed to only be able to cheer himself up by talking shit about other people's work and how everyone else just couldn't measure up to how important his work was and would be. And when he finally meets Viktor he talks about never really thinking he'd take to working with another scientist.
(Honestly, pre-act 1 Jayce comes off a little more like his LOL counterpart which make me believe Arcane Jayce meeting and working with Viktor as early as he did is what helped make him the version of himself he is in Arcane?)
------
2. Jayce was not really sleeping and his schoolwork and grades were going downhill.
He talks in his journal about the fact that he's not getting to sleep until sunrise a lot of nights because he was trying and failing to make the crystals work.
And as a direct consequence of not sleeping he talks about Heimerdinger (the DEAN) having to come talk to him because his grades are slipping.
Jayce literally decides to make a graph correlating his lack of sleep to his poor academic performance.
(Later he expresses concern that he might get expelled from the academy because his work is slipping that badly).
And remember all the while when he is so sleep-deprived he can't focus on coursework he is FULLY CONVINCED he can figure out Hextech. You know a whole new field of study. It doesn't work, shockingly.
------
3. Ximena was already worried about Jayce wellbeing and trying to get him to go outside and be around others.
He eats some snacks insults some people's work to himself and then goes back to doing what he was doing.
Not a lot to talk about with this one except it's no wonder she tried to get him to back off magic if she could already tell he wasn't okay especially when we consider the state he was in at that point.
You also see that both his mother and Heimerdinger were expressing valid concern for him only for him to brush it off.
-----
4. Near the end of the journal entries before we get to the ACT 1 content he says some concerning things considering his later attempt on his life.
First he starts to doubt that he's getting anywhere then he remembers something Heimdinger once said about most inventors failing a 1000 times before succeeding and he makes a self-deprecating joke about "I suppose I must be closing in...".
Then he straight up says he can't see a path forward.
And he then makes a pros and cons list of his experiments where he talks about how the work with the crystals is very dangerous and if he pushes to much it could kill him but also how he's in danger of getting expelled if he can't sort out his schoolwork.
and then he writes.
"Which is worse? Killed or expelled?"
Which is certainly a Harry Potter reference but also given his eventual attempt is very telling.
And it's closely followed by him saying his mom was worried about him, which... seems valid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Also on a side note unrelated to the journal entries.
Jayce's attempt was not a choice made suddenly in a rush of emotion like Viktor's, he planned it.
Jayce not only left what was implied to be a suicide note he took the methodical time to literally WAX SEAL the note with his official house mark. And it took Viktor a long long while of talking to him to get him to back away from the ledge. He was fully committed to committing.
-------------------------------------------------
Final thoughts: I think Jayce was in a place in his mind backed into a corner.
He wasn't able to reach out for help or even trust anyone because of the nature of his work. He wasn't listening to people that were concerned about him. And the way in which Jayce was doing his work was damaging to himself and his life in general. He was spiraling.
He needed someone else there to share the weight of what he was trying to do, to be able to reach out to outside of his own head which was the person Viktor became to him.
Part of me even wonders if Jayce was already in a place where he might have ended up on that ledge without the explosion if he didn't change his ways or have a sudden breakthrough.
Summary: You've been dating Tim for a while, and it's time to meet his family.
Yandere Tim x reader and yandere platonic batfam x reader
Warnings: While my blog is 18+, this piece doesn't contain any explicit material. Normal yandere warnings apply.
It all started when you met Tim Drake for the first time. You were a lowly worker at the Wayneâs company, just a simple personal assistant, but for the first time ever youâd been asked to go directly to the highest floor and deliver some paperwork to Tim directly. He looked different in real life, paler and sicker looking than youâd expected, with bright luminous eyes that seemed to never blink, staring directly into your soul like he knew every secret. He seemed only half-conscious, nodding off where he sat behind his massive desk, though he seemed to snap to attention when you brushed your fingers along his accidentally when handing over the folder. He seemed to focus entirely on your hands, completely zoning in on them, as you stood there awkwardly. Finally, you cleared your throat and turned to leave. He didnât try to stop you, though he did seem upset judging by the glimpse you caught of him through the glass of the door.
From that moment on, it seemed your entire job was to give Tim paperwork, to the point that all other duties completely dried up. Whenever you werenât able to give him anything, he started requesting you stay in the room, just in case. So, you started spending hours on end just reading in his office. The two of you gradually grew closer, and you discovered he had a dry sort of sarcastic wit that you hadnât ever heard about. You began to discover the man behind the intimidating silhouette painted by the media, learning he was kinda dorky and enjoyed photographing nightlife. He even showed you some of his photos, which were of course stunning; he seemed to see Gotham in a way you never had, pulling out its gloomy beauty where most would only see the smog and the crime. Tim seemed to appreciate your almost naive perspective, enjoying the kindhearted way you reminded him of the good in humanity. When he got too cynical, you were able to convince him to give others the benefit of the doubt. It was almost cute, he thought, the way you never seemed to truly understand the kinds of personalities making up most of Gothamâs business scene.
You even served as his very own assistant when he broke a leg in a hiking incident, which apparently happened during a family camping trip. You hadnât even known he could hike, though you assumed he wasnât very good. Still, he spent ages just showing you pictures of the wildlife heâd seen, knowing you loved his photos. The tedious task of painstakingly searching his photo archives for pictures of cute animals was worth it, just to see your smile.
Still, you could tell Tim tended to make others uncomfortable. You could understand, he did have a way of staring right into you, but it seeemd to just be something he did. You werenât aware, of course, of the fact that Tim only ever turned that soft gaze toward you, preferring to glare at anyone that so much as approached the two of you. Your naive disposition did have its uses, after all, as it prevented you from getting suspicious⌠There was a reason why no one would approach you at work, and why all of your bosses seemed nervous around you, and why you got sudden pay increases. You just thought you were a good worker, completely oblivious to everything else going on.
If Tim thought threatening off any love interests was easy, bugging your apartment was even easier. He was able to simply slip in through an unlocked window as Red Robin and place cameras all over, giving him 24-7 footage of your living room and kitchen. he avoided both the bathroom and bedroom; he didnât want to be too creepy, after all, even if Jason did seem to want the bedroom to be bugged, in case someone else was able to slip in. You werenât the best at securing your apartment, and he worried about your safety, okay? As a result of his anxiety, Jason began patrolling more and more around your house, not that youâd ever notice; theyâd have to teach you to start looking up at the rooftops more, after they fully brought you into the family, of course.
Using the information he gained from the cameras, Tim was only able to get even closer to you. He was able to research your interests, your opinions, your hobbies⌠He was able to learn anything he couldnât get from hacking your laptop and phone. It was different, hearing your little rants at the tv screen as you watched your favorite show; reading your search history just didnât give him enough information.
Finally, with the help of Cass of course, he was able to ask you out, after ironing out the perfect plan. He took you out to the movies and then dinner, finally ending up at your apartment, watching your favorite movie while cuddling on your couch. It was there you first kissed.
Dating your boss was definitely an adjustment, but honestly the two of you were so close it didnât seem to change anything. The best part for Tim was finally being able to touch you, to hold your hand, to gently cup your cheek and plant a kiss on your lips⌠To be able to hold you in the way heâd always dreamed.
Yet, he found himself inundated with requests at the mansion and through the groupchat, as every family member clamoured to get to spend time with you. He started spotting Dick and Jason and even Cass in shoddy disguises while on dates, and he knew it was time to introduce you to them. So, he invited you for dinner.
When you first walked in, you were greeted with Alfred, the stoic butler Tim had always described. He seemed nicer in person, none of the dry wit youâd ben prepared to face, and he took your coat gently and with grace.
Next, you were introduced to Timâs quiet sister Cass, who wrapped you in a big hug and patted you on the back. She was nice, if hard to read, and seemed to love touching you; she kept gently patting your back, even throughout the night, as if she couldnât bare to go another moment without keeping close to you.
Then you met Jason, who was busy cooking in the kitchen, Dick sitting on the counter and sneaking carrots when Jasonâs back was turned. The two were incredibly kind, though intimidating, as you knew their opinions mattered a lot to Tim. Dick picked you up in a big sweeping hug, seemingly even more touchy than his sister.
Jason was quiet, weirdly so according to Tim, and spent a lot of the night just⌠staring at you. Maybe he felt uncomfortable being around you? You could imagine having a sibling introduce their partner would be awkward, and you knew the Waynes had had their fair share of terrible romances. later on, when you voiced your worries to Tim, he waved them away; Jason was just trying not to freak you out, he insisted, sure that his older brother would never be able to hate you.
The final brother you met was Damian, who was curled up on the couch with a cat in his lap and two dogs at his feet. He was a quiet child, a seemingly permanent glare on his face only softening slightly when it landed on you. The only way you knew he didnât hate you was the fact that he let you pet his cat, who was apparently named after the butler.
You only met Timâs elusive father at dinner. He was kind, if a little ditzy, and quite welcoming. All in all, the family was polite, and you felt truly welcomed for the first time in your life. It was like youâd known them for years, you seemed to just⌠click!
Of course, looking back, you could see how they knew you so well.
It had happened out of the blue. Youâd been drinking some hot chocolate after winding down with the family, watching a cute cartoon on their large tv, and the next thing you knew was that you were waking up in a dark room. Tim was sitting next to you in the bed, laptop illuminating his pale face, highlighting the dark eyebags.
âOh good, youâre up!â he said, setting his laptop aside and turning the bedside lamp on. You sat up, confused, rubbing at your throbbing head. You felt like you hadnât drank water in three days. When you asked what had happened, he only smiled.
âItâs alright, donât worry, we can talk about that later.â
Now feeling slightly uncomfortable, you stood up. Tim shifted slightly, following you and placing himself between you and the door. âHey, letâs just sit back down, okay? I donât want you to be too stressed, the dose was a little higher than I expectedâŚâ
Dose? When you questioned him, he laughed sheepishly, rubbing at the back of his head. His eyes blinked back at you, seemingly innocent despite your terror.
âWell, we needed time to get you all set up, and we couldnât have you fighting when we sent in your resignationâŚâ He said, smiling gently.
Shit. Shit! Heâd fucking kidnapped you!
You went to dodge around him, but he moved faster than you were able to even anticipate, grabbing you around the waist and hoisting you into the air.
He plopped you back onto the bed, quickly pinning you down. âHey, calm down!â He said, voice even, as though he wasnât currently fighting to keep your hands from smacking at his face.
âI promise itâs okay, we wonât hurt you!â
Then, the door slammed open, and in walked Jason. His combat boots thunked against the shiny wooden floor, and he seemed nonplussed. âwhy arenât you stopping them?â He questioned, leaning against the wall next to the bed. He pulled out his phone and quickly sent a text, fingers flying across the keys. He ignored your calls for help.
âIâm trying!â Tim huffed, finally able to get your hands under control, quickly tying them with thick, velvety rope.
âDo you need help getting them downstairs?â Jason sighed, tucking the phone away.
âNah, I got it,â Tim said, standing up and heaving you up and over his shoulder. With that, Tim and Jason made their way downstairs, you tossed over Timâs shoulder and struggling all the way. It fewlt particularly humiliating, the way that your struggles werenât even acknowledged, much less viewed as a threat.
Finally, you were brought into the living room and plopped down, Tim and Jason quickly sitting down on either side of you. Jason quickly picked up your legs and slung them across his lap, keeping you from wiggling away.
Bruce sat down on the other side of the room, sinking into the green armchair. The other siblings scattered across the room, all staring at you with a similar gleam in their eyes.
âSo, letâs go over some ground rules.â Bruce said, beginning the next phase of your life.
Caitlyn Kiramman: The Perfect Scapegoat
*Spoilers For Arcane*
Good morning all! So continuing my slow descent into insanity let us discuss Arcane once more. Last night trying to fall asleep I was scrolling Archive and came across another of what I think I have seen being called "aftermath" works, just meaning it is the particular author's spin on Cait and Vi's life fairly immediately following the end of season two.
I am not going to name the work or the author because fan-fiction is literally creative art for the author to do with as they please, and I certainly don't have to read anything I don't want to, so I have no desire to call this person out. But I have seen this sort of thing a lot and wanted to discuss it.
"Caitlyn has to face the consequences for her crimes"
Now I have read some truly abhorrent concepts of "justice" people have put Caitlyn through for her actions, and won't be going there. Some are downright inhuman and others just display a hilarious lack of understanding. But the reason this one stuck with me and really had me thinking is that even though it was not the author's intent based on their notes, I actually think they actually did a fantastic job sharing another side of how Caitlyn was utterly failed by almost everyone around her.
In this particular work, the surviving councilors and the prominent people of Piltover have Caitlyn arrested and conduct a tribunal. Including Mel and Shoola. She is called to answer for a host of charges such as allying with a foreign power against her own people, wrongful imprisonment and so on. You get the idea.
So why does this particular idea stick out to me? Because the audacity of the same people who practically fed Caitlyn to Ambessa, as well as surrendered Piltover while pounding their chests and cheering blaming Caitlyn is so nauseatingly realistic it hurts.
QUICK THING ON MEL:
Now let me clear. Mel would never. And had she been there she would have put a stop to that shit or at the very least nodded along while her mother called Caitlyn up then went to Caitlyn afterward in private and started fixing things. But, it is worth noting that Mel knew full and completely what her mother was planning in terms of starting a war to weaponize hex-tech. And as far as we are aware (I think we can assume she told Alora but we don't know for sure) didn't tell anyone. She was trying to stop her behind the scenes through her shadow games. And there are reasons and justifications for that certainly. In fact I think it's safe to assume Mel may have been afraid her mother would just outright attack if Mel was too aggressive in opposing her. Mel was a politician only at this time, and solved problems through more cerebral methods. Even when her magic manifests it is one primarily of protection and deflection, not head on aggression. Not to mention Mel's unavoidable conflicting emotions opposing her at all. But we will never how things could have been different if the rest of the council were aware of Ambessa's plan to begin with.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED:
This is primarily about her actual time as commander but I wanted to touch on the task force. I recently was discussing the task force/use of The Grey with another user and they stated Caitlyn staged a coup to lead the task force. This of course is in no way true, but as my wife put it:
"She didn't stage a coup but not a single one of those spineless adults thought to look at the emotionally sandblasted college kid and say -No. You haven't even taken a beat since you were abducted and terrorized by your mother's killer and you have just survived another fight. We will figure this out but you don't need this right now. Go hug your incredibly hot girlfriend and take like a fifteen hour nap- instead they let themselves take the easy way out and pinned it all on Caitlyn."
The Commander:
I am not gonna do a whole recap or a break-down of how Ambessa plays these people like a fiddle again. If you are interested I'd love to hear your thoughts on the documents where I have covered those topics!
In Summary: Caitlyn has returned from her mission with the strike team ending in heartbreak and failure in terms of Jinx at least. Totally isolated and alone, not having healed from any of the trauma she has suffered since the beginning of S1 A2, she stands with the other Enforcers while Ambessa expertly manipulates the prominent families of Piltover, the two surviving councilors, and a large amount of Enforcers you would have to assume included leadership (given their presence here and that there clearly many more than this total) into not only agreeing to Martial Law, but to Caitlyn as their commander.
"Caitlyn could have said no"- This is certainly true. I don't think anyone is arguing that myself included. Bu it is extraordinarily important to factor in Caitlyn's mental state at this point which includes a completely mind-boggling amount of trauma. As well as the fact that her people are angry and afraid, and as a Kiramman even at her young age she is someone they look to. Now sprinkle in a healthy amount of mob mentality and manipulation by Ambessa, as she is standing in a crowd of people thumping their chests while the only speaking member of her team stands by her side smiling and encouraging her to go up and accept. And then just to seal the deal Ambessa promises what Caitlyn wants most "your mother will have justice". She absolutely had the choice to say no. I am not negating that. But I do think unless you are intentionally disregarding all of the other factors involved in order to demonize her it is quite clear that things were not so simple. She ultimately made the choice, but ignoring the context doesn't make you righteous. Only ignorant, unfeeling, or both.
And for all those who love rolling out the old "Caitlyn jumped at the first chance to take power and punish all of Zaun just because her mom died" speech, lets take a look at how Caitlyn is actually feeling:
I can only speak for me, but let me tell you what I see playing out in these images point by point:
Shock
Fear
Conflict
Reassurance
Nervousness
Stoic sadness
Acceptance of responsibility
A FUCKING FIFTY SOMETHING YEAR OLD CONQUERING WAR-MONGER SEEING HER DREAM COME TRUE
But! Stepping away from Caitlyn for a moment back to more of my original point. Caitlyn and Ambessa were not alone during this moment. Ambessa had instructed Salo to summon all people of prominence and power or something to that effect. Basically the people who had a say in how things go. These are the people she puppets into agreeing to Martial Law and Caitlyn as their commander. Let's take a look at these heroes:
*Salo was there but I couldn't get a great still of him and I will give him a pass at least in the moment because Rictus was threatening him*
There were more people than this but these were the ones that I could grab in decent quality. And these were the people to make the decision. Otherwise Ambessa would not have needed them all there and gone through her whole song and dance. And I understand the argument that some of them were probably afraid due to the Noxian's doing their stomp dance, but guess what? If the adult politicians and people in power get that grace so does the college kid who recently got emotionally and mentally nuked back to the stone age.
Every single one of them let this happen. They could have stepped during it, they could have taken action after. Salo and Shoola were on the council with Cassandra. They both watch her daughter get served up on a plate to Ambessa so everyone can go about their lives feeling safer and pretending its all handled. There were enforcers there more than twice Caitlyn's age. Someone there was a position of leadership at some level. Not a single damn one made a move? Questioned? An assembly of probably between 30-50 people made up of Piltover's elite all bury their heads in the sand and let the grieving, inexperienced, young, recently returned from violent conflict college kid take the heat so they can go back to easy street and blame someone else if things go wrong.
AWARD FOR SPECTACULAR FAILURE:
We of course cannot touch on the prominent people of Piltover who might as well have spartan kicked Caitlyn into Ambessa's open maw without talking about Tobias. Listen, Anyone who has been following me for any length of time has seen my relentless attempts to get people to recognize the importance of understanding how grief and loss hits people. This man lost his wife. His entire world got turned upside down. And I don't deny that at a point even if he had stepped in Caitlyn may have shut him down as she became the leader of house Kiramman anyway. But he does.... nothing... Part of this probably just comes down to the decision by the writers for him to kind of vanish but we see him defending her efforts to help early on and then when she has so clearly lost her way we get nothing from him.
Martial Law:
So as I said, I have been through all of this in detail. Not doing it again. But since we are talking about it what did Caitlyn actually do?
Establish Checkpoints and take martial control of Zaun.
Arrest people who violated the law.
.............
Piltover elite willingly agree to Martial Law
Piltover elite agree to Caitlyn being made leader
Zaun falls under Piltover jurisdiction regardless of Martial Law or not
Somewhere in Zaun is a dangerous terrorist guilty of multiple political assassinations, the deaths of several enforcers, tremendous destruction of property, multiple attempts to murder Caitlyn herself, and violent abduction of Caitlyn who at the time was a councilor's daughter from her own home.
Zaunite fighters conduct devastating attack on memorial service in what is supposed to be a secure location. Jinx would almost certainly be suspected of involvement but even if not once again the threat comes from Zaun.
The leader they chose, who is the leader because of the martial law they agreed to, places Zaun under occupation until this clear and unquestionable threat to public safety is located. She challenges unlawful arrests, unnecessary violence, bans the use of the worst cells in Stillwater she found Vi in, and has no part in Ambessa's secret experiments and brutality in the bowels of the prison.
None of this is to say that Caitlyn did not make mistakes, did not lose herself to her rage and hate, or does not share in the blame to a degree for the suffering Ambessa caused. I think it is fair to say that Caitlyn, much like those who failed her so spectacularly, looked away from the truth because it was easier to do so at first. And that is not even factoring the massive manipulation of Ambessa upon Caitlyn during this time to keep the occupation going while she continues to try and crack hex-tech, and attempting to control Caitlyn and bend her to her will.
But the idea of the people who all turned away while Caitlyn was made Ambessa's scapegoat so they could sleep peacefully at night condemning her from on high is both disgusting, and sadly all too believable. They have already proved their cowardice and stupidity. And it would be the final betrayal of someone who wanted above all else to protect her people to subject her to some sort of tribunal/punishment in the wake of surviving her cities complete abandonment of her. Especially considering her massive life-changing injuries sustained in the defense of humanity itself while setting things right.
Regarding Zaun:
The people of Zaun are for obvious reasons another matter. There is the larger picture ongoing oppression of Zaun by Piltover to consider, and even considering all the above factors the people of Zaun:
A- Would not have any way to know how much of part Ambessa played behind the scenes until someone made it all public
B- Were the ones who actually suffered during the occupation that Caitlyn did authorize regardless of reasoning.
And just like above, I am not saying Caitlyn does not share in the blame for what occurred. While everything she did was within her scope of authority, an authority lawfully granted to her, and in response to a very legitimate threat to Piltover's safety, it does not change the fact that people imprisoned during the occupation were potentially subjected to Ambessa's brutality. Never mind the day-to-day brutality enacted by Rictus and his men.
But again there are other factors that need to be considered before constructing the gallows:
Piltover's oppression of Zaun is unquestionable. But neither is Piltover's current legal jurisdiction over Zaun. Every action Caitlyn took and was knowledgeable of was completely legal, no matter how wrong you find the law.
The Grey- I am absolutely not doing my whole breakdown again. But through the use of the grey they helped take down Shimmer and the Chem-Barons, which were both enormous threats to the under city. And while it uncomfortable and clearly dangerous when exposed over long periods of time, there is absolutely no evidence of it being dangerous from short term exposure how Caitlyn used it.
And of course, the biggest factor: JINX.
I'll make all of you a deal. Caitlyn gets a noose if Jinx hops up next to her. I love Jinx but it serves no purpose to pretend she's an angel. Jinx is the one who kicks all of this off to begin with. It is because of her that Piltover retaliation is guaranteed, because of her Caitlyn's entire life so violently and radically changes course. And let's be clear here, before you start with all that Jinx was striking out against the oppressors who had ruined her peoples lives in the name of justice and blah blah blah. Nope. Know how I know that? She hid during the entire occupation until Isha got taken. She wasn't speaking truth to power in the name of her people. She was a mentally ill child lashing out at a symbol of her rage in a moment of extraordinary grief and pain. And regarding her hiding by the way, I applauded her for it. Getting away from all of that shit is how she started to get better. As far as I'm concerned I would have cheered to see she and Isha leave that temple fight, board an airship, and head off for adventures far away from Piltover and Zaun forever (Same for Caitlyn and Vi but that's a different document).
So all that said, while Caitlyn certainly has a debt to the people of Zaun, we need to take care not to wrap that up with the debt Piltover owes to Zaun.
Caitlyn is not to blame for the entire history of the two cities. She only played a part in this series of events. And it would be dishonest not to admit that it was a Zaunite that started in the first place, the same Zaunite who changed Caitlyn's life forever through her violence and terrorism. And that the same woman who manipulated Zaunite warriors into attacking Piltover to help kick the war off manipulated Caitlyn herself.
If Silco's mad daughter can become their symbol of hope, and his most trusted lieutenant can become their first councilor, perhaps the people of Zaun can find mercy in their heart for a young woman who recently almost gave her life to make things right. Not to mention her families seat on the council.
Anyway. You have all heard most of this from me before in some form or fashion. So I apologize for that. And again I really am not coming for fan-fiction. I would be the ULTIMATE hypocrite given my recent small efforts. The particular story that got my attention just made me think about it, and then realize it would be sickeningly true to form for the Piltover elite to try and turn on Caitlyn when it was all said and done when they abandoned her the first time. And spawned into this. Thank you for reading.
Have a great day!
Luigi M; A Look âË⥠â A Luigi Mangione Analysis ââË・â. A/N: I am not claiming to know or understand him as a person lol. I simply wanna do a lil surface dive on him as a person to try and shed some light on what I think he's like!
Please note; All links are tweets Luigi himself has reposted, or are things from his mouth that he has typed. VIA Reddit, twitter, etc etc. All retweets will be marked with *
⥠Luigi as a person (good, and bad)
â After many many hours of scouring this manâs socials and any sort of archive of him I can find, Iâve gathered a handful of interpretations and ideas as to what Luigi was like prior to his surgery. And I say that last part specifically because he showed a v drastic change directly after his surgery, and literally went M.I.A.
Luigi is a very empathetic and intelligent man, this is a surface level fact that we can all agree on. Heâs been shown to go out of his way for other people even when he doesnât have to. But please donât let that fool you this man is a KEYBOARD. WARRIOR.
â He LIVES for the debate. In fact, he fucking loves debating. I wouldnât go as far as saying he loves arguing, but if thereâs a point being made and he feels strongly about it, he will type pages upon pages of text explaining in great detail exactly why you are wrong.
Heâs said time and time before in a retweeted post that freethinking* is a very important part of life, and hereâs where I say heâsâŚa bit of a hypocrite. His love for debate kind of keeps him from seeing another personâs POV, which makes for a hell of a storm when disagreeing with him. In short, heâs stubborn. A very stubborn man, but he is open to hearing the other person out versus not listening to them at all.
And I have a strong feeling his stubborn demeanor coincides with the fact that he knows heâs smart. Donât get me wrong, he seems like he usually knows what heâs talking about, but thatâs the problem. If you tell him about something thatâs been bothering you or going wrong in your life, he will spit out 99 solutions for you. Heâs the kind of guy where he will probably resort to both comfort AND unsolicited advice, although its likely he got better at the latter later down the line.
â Shying away from him being stubborn, thereâs another key part of this man that I DONT SEE BEING TALKED ABOUT ENOUGHHH OMG. SASSY MAN. SASSY SASSY SAASSSSYY MAN.
You can expect shade, eye rolls, silent treatment, head shakes, and possibly even a snarky comment from him. Heâs all about becoming a better person and stuck on self betterment, but he is not afraid to show his visible disdain for something. He has very dry and unexpected humor, but he doesnât realize it. Heâs funny in a way where he doesnât mean to be.
But when heâs trying to make a joke? Oh god help me heâs so so so cheesy and so corny that it makes you just wanna curl up and die (but no seriously, heâs so corny that itâs funny). His sense of humor is so cheesy, think old vine and 2018 humor.
â Another key part about him is his love for travel, and being a âgeekâ by nature! This man loooooovesss his Pokemon, let me tell you. Was in a whole subreddit dedicated to Pokemon go, word committed for half a page about backpacking essentials, and was almost always posted up somewhere that wasnât his house. I canât say heâs the type for spontaneous trips, as the only time he has been known to take was during the beginning of his breakdown.
Because of this, I feel like heâs more likely to be a marvel and MCU fan. He also read a couple of the Harry Potter books, and we can assume that he liked the series enough to rate them 5/5s lol
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/31ebd22f40c90b337c041c5ebcf7e687/a6b7c6f595f18c0d-83/s540x810/31fe123420ac4d3154d4504cfbc985495e335fcf.jpg)
⥠My takeaways. Deeper analysis
â Luigi gives me massive INTJ vibes. Contrary to popular belief, I feel heâs more introverted rather than extroverted. Heâs expressed clear comfort in solitude, and aligns perfectly with the personality category.
INTJ description;
âINNOVATIVE,INDEPENDENT, STRATEGIC, LOGICAL, RESERVED, INSIGHTFUL. DRIVEN BY THEIR OWN ORIGINAL IDEAS TO ACHIEVE IMPROVEMENTS.â
However, I could see him being an ISTP, who are characterized as
âACTION-ORIENTED, LOGICAL, ANALYTICAL, SPONTNEOUS, RESERVED, INDEPENDENT. ENJOY ADVENTURE, SKILLED AT UNDERSTANDING THINGS.â
â Heâs a very big geek! More than likely has a soft spot for nostalgia content or things that remind him of childhood. We can expect him to be into things like Ben10, Cartoon Network, old Nickelodeon, and other shows such as The Office, Law & Order, true crime, and philosophy content!
â Expect him to be a giving lover. Would absolutely love words of affirmation, quality time, and acts of service. Heâd be more than willing to give you gifts and shower you in lavishes, but itâs not his main love language as he believes love goes beyond materialism and who can spend the most on who. Handmade gifts are a go! Expect 3D printed trinkets, pictures, cards, etc etc.
â Absolute communication god. Heâs stubborn, but heâs not stubborn enough to not tell you when something is wrong. Itâs just not his speed and he thinks itâs pointless to not tell someone, especially your partner, when heâs upset or whatâs got him in a bad mood. He also expects this same behavior from you as well. The whole âI donât wanna tell you whatâs wrongâ shindig would annoy the FUCK out of him. FAST.
â He doesnât give possessive or jealous lover type ngl. Growing up with two sisters and being absolutely showered in female companionship, he understands how that could possibly make you feel and doesnât even blame you for it. As a result, heâd be extremely understanding if you were friends with men.
â Please donât ever get in an argument with this man lmfao. That is one battle you cannot and WILL NOT win. If itâs petty and a matter of âI didnât say so and so,â he WILL show up with receipts. Would very much start busting out his big boy words just to confuse you. Catch him throwing old English into the mix. But if itâs a legitimate argument, and you have a reason to be upset, he will apologize before it can even get off track.
⥠Luigiâs Brain
â Alright kids hereâs where we get a little controversial. Whatâs going on in Luigiâs mind?
I just wanna start this section off by saying I am not a licensed psychologist, nor do I major in psychology. I have no ties to this topic whatsoever, and am just speaking from what Iâve seen in myself, and what Iâve seen in him.
Neurodivergence. Luigi has a habit of exuding very neurodiverse behavioral patterns that I could tie to one of two things. Autism, or OCD.
â Luigi openly expressed a lot about his wills and wants on his various social media platforms, and one thing Iâve noticed is his strong need or drive for self-improvement. Please donât get me wrong, it is incredibly important to want to improve yourself and that is a perfectly healthy goal to have. However, Luigiâs drive for self-improvement and âgetting betterâ had a direct impact on his relationships, lifestyle, and more. This is likely what influenced his 6 month period of self-isolation and cutting off his family members.
Perfectionism âtypeâ OCD is a branch of the umbrella term of OCD in which can be identified by repetitive behaviors, such as excessive exercise, something he continued to engage in even with a bad back, insistence on specific routines or ways to do things to achieve perfection, and occasionally rigid and inflexible thinking patterns, as I described him being likely to have above.
not everyone experiences OCD the same way, and me and Luigi are obviously going to experience it differently considering we are two completely different individuals. As someone with perfectionism OCD, I am just calling what I see in my eyes.
â I saw someone make the argument a while back that Luigi could possibly be a narcissist, and while I don't necessarily deny that he can come off as pompous in some of his tweets, I do not think this is the case.
For Luigi to be a narcissist means that he wouldn't be able to make meaningful connections with people around him. Every person that has met or come into contact with Luigi only had good things to say, but I'd like to focus on his...straightforward or out-of-touch* tweets.
Luigi is a no-nonsense man. He's very left-brained and thinks as such, literally. He demonstrates a tendency to solve and think and plow through anything he registers as a problem. Have you ever asked "well, why can't we just print more money?" when told about the cash crisis? That's exactly whats going on in this tweet.
His first instinct when faced with the topic of Japan's birth rate is to try and solve it. Luigi may be hyperfixated on stats and data, which would clarify why he allegedly word-vomited to the hoes about birth rate data. He's not trying to come off as rude or ignorant, and frankly, I don't really think his tweet is that crazy either, he just might not know that this isn't something considered a social topic.
I feel like we're ignoring a lot of his more out-of-touch* (re)tweets, though. Scrolling through Luigi's page, I can understand what he's trying to get at, though lol. He's made it very clear that he's an intense supporter of complete equality*, he doesn't want anybody to be undermined in their contributions to society. Regardless of gender, sexual identity, race, etc. But again, he's thinking so literally and has trouble effectively communicating that in a way that is "neurotypical." This paired with the way he word vomits, and just his overall typing style and cadence, It just feels like he may be on the spectrum!
I do not have a link for this as his Reddit account was fucking obliterated, BUT, I do remember it being rumored that Luigi was apart of several neurodivergent support groups and subreddits!
I hope I helped humanize him a bit more for you guys! Lmk what you think of this little summary as itâs my first time doing something like this EVER lmfaođ
That time I got reincarnated as an Aeon
(Series)
Chapter six: A place to belong
(Unedited, like the rest of the series)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/91c1901dc1680e5b6c4addf7c16edbd6/ac40ea58f05c1506-33/s540x810/2a92627961253592ac0847800034802aef1e7781.jpg)
Outer space had always been cold.
Your body didnât suffer the effects of the temperature, yet you still felt the chill of the void on your skin. The stars and their dusts glowed around you, decorating your space in the most beautiful way that your human self could never dream of.
You thought of your family in your previous life and wondered how they were, if they were alright, if they were eating well and living well.
You also came to realize you werenât homesick at all.
Materializing in the express and glancing at Welt made you feel a humane sense of relief in knowing you arenât the only one who wanted to badly convey that you were safe in this new world you resided in.
Unlike Welt though, you donât have the luxury of ever returning to what once was, or have the choice in having the best of both worlds. Your existence was cemented in this world permanently the moment you became the embodiment of a concept and a being no longer human.
You canât turn back. Itâs a little funny that though you represented freedom, you donât have the luxury of ever returning to something simpler. You did not have the freedom to return to be the being you once were.
You can emulate human expressions, you can still feel, but you know youâre not really seeing or feeling things the way a human would anymore.
Youâre not disturbed by this in the slightest.
You snapped out of your thoughts and walked towards your room then thought of how youâd decorate itâ maybe something similar to a bachelor pad? No, Pompom would not be a fan. Maybe something similar to the archives? No, youâd be stealing Dan Hengâs shine.
Then you remembered cozy cabins, quilts, books, all things comfortable and got an idea.
You walked out of your room to seek Pompom and Himeko, ready to lay out your idea in personalizing that little space inside of this trainâ now that you think of it, itâs more of a house than anything else.
You realized having a home feels comforting more than it ought to be. As an Aeon, your home was the cosmos, the space being your cradle and the nebulas your walls; but the cosmos is hollow and cold, and it did not provide the warmth of the train, or the warmth only humans had.
While you could not go back to being what you were before, you at least had a choice in what your home should be, and what you could do.
âHimeko.â You called out to her, and she turned to you, smiling like youâre a kid that wants her company. âI have ideas to personalize my room, would you be fine if I were to be a bit loud in there for a bit?â
âI donât mind, though you should ask Dan Heng-â
âIâm fine with it.â Dan Heng answered for her, sitting on a chair and tasting one of her coffee cupsâ you bit the urge to grimace at the sheer will he had to even drink that.
âGreat! Iâll start when weâre on our next stop.â You said with a grin. âHerta got something heavy for us to do right? Leave it to me, think of it as a thank you and a vacation of some sorts.â
âAre you sure? I donât want to burden you.â She sounded cautious almost, even after more than eight years.
âIt wonât be much. Besides, you do own this train, think of it as a courtesyâ like a tenant paying rent.â You stated, âI shared this space with you for more than eight years now and Iâm modifying an area to my liking, itâs only fair if you get something in return in exchange right?â
Her eyes widened, seemingly surprised. She parted her lips, as if wanting to say something but you gently shushed her, knowing what it is she wanted to say. Youâve already given your protection and blessing to the expressâ you didnât even need to help, but you want to.
â[Name].â She sighed fondly. âYou can do as you wish, you donât need permission from me or anyone else.â
âOh, isnât asking permission how things work in a shared space though?â You tilted your head, frowning. âI know Iâve done pretty unsavory things outside of this train,â you twirled a strand of your hair, looking away as you felt Dan Hengâs questioning stare on you. âBut I donât mind having to go back and forth with this every time I want to do something inside of it. itâd be unfair for everyone here if I donât consider their feelings in the matter, or warning them ahead of time to what I will be doing.â
âAh, I see.â She said, nodding to let you know she understood your point with a relieved and fond smile on her face. âVery well then. Iâll tell Welt youâll be going to fetch the materials Herta asked for on your own.â
âWeâll have fun next time I promiseâ ugh if only Void was dead so I could use his body.â That sounded wrong, but soulium is great to use for whatever reasonâ be it a weapon, a snowboard, or a pan. âHey uh before we landâŚ. please tell Welt that (Censored).â
With those words, you left, disintegrating from the activation of a space anchor as you saw the planet where the materials on Hertaâs list were particularly abundant.
Dan Heng for once looked a little horrified, Himeko however could only sigh at your antics.
What even was your suggestion? Well, it involves using Void as a snowboard, and using his âsonâ as the brakes.
Those words would be horrifying enough to hear if you were a man.
âDonât worry, they wonât do that to you.â Himeko said in an attempt to reassure him. Although it worked, the words still rang through his head.
âââââââââââ
As you hummed and gathered the materials after killing a couple of Nanookâs children, you heard bells, then giggling.
You sighed. âYouâre not very subtle in showing your amusement for the shit I do you know?â
You could feel them smiling, before multitudes of masks enter your vision and the sound of party balloons fill the space at the corner of your eyes.
The Elation morphs into a human-like shape like you, and youâre not surprised to find out whose form they took.
Familiar green eyes, and dark hair. Of course it would be Belobogâs conman this timeâ the last time Aha had showed themselves to you they took on the form of Hanabi when you were in some planet with Boothill some years ago.
âOf course! Itâs rude to greet a friend without announcing my presence.â They grinned, their smile stretching a little wider than what a normal human could smile. You think this would have utterly creeped you out had you been a human.
âGood to see you again, Aha.â You said.
âAnd you are still the same old you.â They poked your nose. âWhat fun are you going to pull next I wonder?â They jeered.
âNone of your businessâ I didnât think you cared. I was under the assumption that as long as you are elated, then all is well.â Aha laughed at your intentional wording, slapping their knee as they wheezed too loudly.
âThis is why you are my good friend.â They pinched your cheeks. âTo think youâd offer all sides of a theater just like this, did you enjoy it when you were behind the safety of your screen too?â
What the fuck.
âWhat do you mean by that?â You innocently prodded, Aha merely kept their grin wide like a Cheshire Cat, their form morphing into something.. wrong, off, inelegant and disproportionate if you looked closer.
âOh you know well what I am talking about, Little Libertas.â They said. âA reborn Aeon from a realm none of us can reach, how amusing indeed.â their eyes widened, pupils blown as they confirmed your suspicion. Aha had no reason to speak of lies to you for they were not human.
âUgh.â You groaned. âOf course youâd break the fourth wall.â You said softly as you went back to picking up the materials with ease.
âYet you still laugh whenever I rickroll you.â
âFair.â
Aha hummed, their features returning back to normal seeing as it didnât get a reaction out of you as they wanted.
âI would like to watch you more.â They said to you. âYou are amusing.â
You made a face, and they laughed as they slowly but surely disappeared.
âUntil next time little friend.â
You sighed, looking at the materials inside of the sack before dragging it with you and walking to a space anchor.
You still have a room to renovate after all.
Iâm still navigating on how I could properly write this fic, so when I eventually edit it please expect minor or major changes to how things would function because we know HSR lore isnât that concrete yet.
I would also like to thank everyone for their love and support for this series, I love everyoneâs praises towards thisâ I was initially hesitant to publish it, but Iâm glad I did.
See you on the next installation!
LOUD.
âYouâve got something there,â Quin says, gesturing vaguely at his own shoulder.
âIâm aware,â Obi-Wan signs. âItâs some sort of monkey lizard fungus.â
The monkey lizard fungus giggles into his shoulder.
Quin nods grimly. âI heard the only cure is to placate it with sweets and hope for the best.â
Anakin precariously leans over, heels accidentally digging into still bruised ribs.
Obi-Wan bites his lips behind the collar but of course Quin immediately detects his movements turning stiff.
Quin holds out an arm, flexing his bicep with wiggling eyebrows. It has the desired effect and Anakin jumps from Obi-Wan, swinging around the elbow before hooking his knees over Quinâs arm.
âHeâs heavier than he looks,â Quin strains out.
They walk to one of the mess halls thatâs open around the clock and mainly offers food and beverages to those clinging with teeth to their sanity during exam season.
One of the cramming Padawans looks up from their dozen holo books displaying graphs, and squints at them. âMaster Vos, thereâs something growing out of your arm?â
âMonkey lizard fungus,â Obi-Wan signs, hiding a smile behind his collar at the Padawan nodding to themselves as if that makes perfect sense.
âWhatâs with them?â Anakin asks, looking at the sleep deprived tableau and hoisting himself up and swinging one leg over Quinâs shoulder.
âThis is your future,â Quin says gravely and Obi-Wan is catapulted to melting stone fire Darkness âYou were supposed to be my Master!â yellow familiar eyes from a smoking alive corpse and the grief is ripping him apart ââsee once you take your first assignments. The only places youâll be is either here or the Archives.â
Itâs been years since he last had a vision. Itâs staggering, his heart thumping in his chest like a clock ticking down the inevitable countdown. But itâs not.
He looks over to Anakin whoâs already watching back with wide eyes, the fear in his hands gripping onto Quinlan. âI wonât let it come to that,â he promises, fingers thudding together heavily but heâs still shaking off the vision and Anakinâs fear is a taste in the air by now. He canât not make promises he only hopes he can keep.
Quinlan is silent during their exchange, gloved hands keeping hold of Anakin. The calculating look in his eyes a guarantee Obi-Wan is going to get cornered later.
.
âDo you like Depa being your Master?â
Let it be said, paranoia is a common infliction amongst Shadows.
âObi-Wan,â Anakin sighs, voice breaking with puberty and annoyance. âDepa is wizard. Sheâs amazing even though sheâs signed me up to all these classes.â
Obi-Wan looks over all the models, plans, and concepts with added calculations. Thereâs a data pad displaying language modules and another proclaiming the joys of agriculture. âItâs almost all in the engineering field,â he signs.
âWhich makes her so wizard. Youâd never have me taking up gardening though,â Anakin adds sullenly.
Donât yearn for things I cannot give you, Obi-Wan has thought a lot in the past few years as the Galaxy seems to slowly steep in Darkness.
âKnowing what can poison you is important,â he signs, feeling restless and helpless. The mission heâs finished two cycles ago may still reside in his bones.
âIâll just bite back,â Anakin says, tongue sticking out as he connects wires to ports. He presses a button and the thing heâs been tinkering with since before Obi-Wan left starts to purr smoothly. âNow she can even juice cocadooms,â he says, satisfaction purring just as smoothly in his voice.
âWell done.â
âI know,â Anakin responds airily and swivels around to face Obi-Wan fully. âYouâre lurking in the shadows again so letâs get this tradition over with: Depa is an awesome Master and maybe I sometimes wish youâd have chosen me but,â he adds loudly when Obi-Wan lifts his hands to protest, âI also sometimes daydream Master Tiin had chosen me because heâs got his own modded Delta-7.â
The paranoia settles down as Anakin waxes over how wicked the new wing box skins and sensor fusions are, no, truly, you should see them, Obi-Wan!
Thinking about this post. "The only way to make a cell is from another cell" is somewhat of a troubling fact to me. I mean, not for any practical reason, just because it underscores the precarity of *gestures broadly*.
It's like, some people talk about trying to de-extinct the mammoth. And people are trying to sequence the genome of the mammoth, I don't know if they've done it yet. But even if they do, one of the problems with the idea of de-extinction is... to grow a baby mammoth, you need another mammoth! Last time I heard people talking about this, I think they were talking about using an elephant as a surrogate mother. But imagine if elephants were extinct too.
The point is that information is often tied to the systems that transmit it; even if you know everything in the mammoth genome, once all the mammoths are gone there's nothing capable of reading and using that information. Like when you can't read the data on a perfectly good floppy disk because your computer doesn't have a floppy drive.
This is related to why language death troubles me so much. Even the most well-documented languages aren't actually that well understood; linguists have produced more pages of work on English syntax than maybe any other specific descriptive topic and yet still the only reliable way to get the answer to any moderately subtle syntactic question is elicit native speaker data. We know almost nothing, we can barely extrapolate at all! And every language is like this, a hugely complex system that we know basically nothing about, and if the chain of native speaker transmission is ever broken it's just gone.
"Language revival", I mean from a totally dead language, is kind of a myth. It's like the "came back different" trope. In Israel they revived Hebrew, but Modern Hebrew is really not the same thing as Biblical Hebrew at all. I mean in a stronger sense even than Modern English isn't Old English. All the subtleties of Biblical Hebrew that a native speaker would have had implicit competence with died without a trace. All they left is a grainy image, the texts. The first generation of Modern Hebrew speakers took the rough grammatical sketch preserved in these texts and imbued it with new subtleties, borrowed from Slavic and Germanic and the speakers' other native languages, or converged at by consensus among that first generation of children. There's nothing wrong with that, but it would be inaccurate to imagine Biblical Hebrew surviving in Modern Hebrew the way Old English survives in Modern English. For instance, you can discover a great deal that you didn't know about Old English by comparing Modern English dialects. There is nothing you can discover about Biblical Hebrew by comparing Modern Hebrew dialects in this way.
There's nothing wrong with this, of course. I'm not like, judging Modern Hebrew. I'm just making a point.
Mammoths died recently, so we still have (some of?) their genome. Something that died longer ago, like dinosaurs, we have traces of them in the form of fossils but we could never hope to revive them, the information is just gone. Even if we're not aiming for revival, even if we just want to know stuff about dinosaurs, there's so much that we will never know and can never know.
We imagine information as the kind of thing which sits in an archive, because this is the context most of us encounter information in, I think. Libraries, hard drives. Well obviously hard drives don't last. And most ancient texts only survive because of a scribal tradition, continuous re-writing, not because of actual archival. So I think that imagining archives as the natural habitat of information is sort of wrong; the natural habit of information is in continuous transmission. Information is constantly moving. And it's like one of those sharks, if it ever stops moving it drowns. And if the lines of transmission are broken, the information is gone and can never be retrieved.
Very precarious.
