the key to surviving grad school (also maybe life but definitely grad school) is to pick a side quest every few months or so. something that brings you joy and that you can get better at over time, independent of whether or not your research or classes are going well. put your need for academic validation to use in a non-academic setting and everything will feel less dire and you will learn you are more than your work

We could use your help!

If you support the groundbreaking, inclusive, affirming, feminist, comprehensive, young-people-centered, queer sex ed for all we've provided for 25+ years to over 90 million people, please help us raise the $15K we need to pay our bills in 2024, or become one of 250 new donors we need for 2025! You can do that at Scarleteen.com/contribute or by heading to our site and clicking ‘Pitch-In ’. 🎉 If you’re already donating (thank you!) please consider increasing your monthly amount, if you can, even a little bit. We’ll count any increases we get towards our two goals! You can do that by clicking 'Manage Your Donation' in your latest donation receipt. If you can’t donate yourself, can you tell your friends, family and followers who we are, why you value our work and ask them if they’d be willing to donate? You can share this post and the link above, but using your own words is the most effective! Despite leading the way in SRE online from the 1990s on, and always making sure young people have access to good information even when it is suppressed elsewhere in their lives, we remain underfunded, including funding to pay our staff a fair, living wage. We need to meet this $15K goal to fund our most basic needs and our tightest budget. If you can help us do that, we can focus on providing awesome SRE, growing, improving and kicking-ass, and finding more funding for 2025. Thank you! ❤️

Conversations between best friends has often led to some reckless/stupid/not thought out at all decisions. Like one conversation the amity park trio had where Danny said that he couldn't see Tucker as a doctor (the medical kind) to which Tucker responded with "Alright, bet." and enrolled in medical school. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Bruce Wayne and Tucker Foley somehow by coincidence *cough* clockwork* became friends. And stayed friends even after Bruce dropped out and Tucker went on to finish med school. It was a strange friendship that was mainly just Bruce calling Tucker from the weirdest locations and asking things "Out of curiosity, if an immortal nutjob wanted you to marry his daughter and become his heir what would you do? uh-huh, uh-huh, really? ok, thanks." and meeting up for coffee every now and then. It was during one of these coffee meet-ups that Bruce confessed that he wanted to adopt a recently orphaned child by the name of Richard. There was currently push back from people who didn't think 'Brucie Wayne' would be a good parent and from others who didn't want a random kid having a chance to inherit the Wayne fortune, the media was also having a field day. Everyone kept asking him to "reconsider" and doing everything they can to stall/stop the adoption process. Tucker, being the good friend he was, said "Don't worry, I got this" Stood up from the cafe table, walked to the nearest library and politely asked to use one of their computers, spent a good ten minutes on it, printed something out on the library's printer, walked back to the cafe where he left Bruce waiting. And finally, he handed over the paper with the words "Take this." and continued drinking his now cold coffee. Bruce was, understandably, confused. "What is-" "Trust me, it'll work." Tucker assured him. That is how Bruce Wayne adopted one Richard 'Dick' Grayson.
And after that, Bruce went to Tucker whenever he came across a kid that he wanted to adopt, which was often. It's one reason why Tucker will do everything in his power to make sure Danny and Bruce never meet for fear that the Gothamite might try to add the Halfa to the growing army of children. Aka

You should never have shame about your academic journey. It's a journey. You're growing and learning. You're going to face challenges alone for one of the first times in your life. Shit's hard. It's ok to struggle.
I haven't had a pretty journey at all. I'm graduating with a bachelor's degree at 25. I've been in college nonstop since I was 18. I've failed a lot of classes and had to go part time. So many things have happened. But I will have the degree. And that degree is worth the exact same as someone who got it in 3 years. The knowledge I have is mine to keep.
How I got here doesn't matter. I'm here. I am going to graduate in a few months. I have won this chapter of my life. And to those who try to shame me for how I got here and how long it took, I pray that you never experience the things I have that have made it take long. May you live a life of comfort and luxury and have hands soft as silk until you die. And hopefully I will get the same grace from the universe eventually.

get ready to get back to school⋆.ೃ࿔*:・🗒️
Tumblr media
i can hardly believe that school is coming up. in like, two/one week. ISNT THAT ABSURD? i feel like summer just flew past but im very excited to start my junior year of highschool…💬🎀
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BUYING DREAM SCHOOL SUPPLIES ;
when ur school supplies are cute, you'll feel MOTIVATED to put them to good use. idek what it is. 99% of my school supplies are pink and because of that im motivated to take good notes, study my notes etc because seeing the sparks of pink just make me so HAPPY.
so ofc this year my school supply list has remained consistent in its color scheme of pink, pink and more pink 🎀. some things on my school shopping list are ->
notebooks
a binder
dividers for the binders with adorable labels
pink and purple gel pens (along with black gel pens)
pastel highlighters
looseleaf paper
a fluffy pink pen
FIX UR SLEEP SCHEDULE ;
ik a lot of us (including myself some times) stay up for way to long and feel like our sleep schedule is BEYOND repair but it is not. u need to be getting back into a consistent sleeping routine that keeps u healthy and well rested not only for back to school but for ur own well being. you'll have plenty of time tomorrow for what u choose to stay up all night doing, i promise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
FOR MY ONLINE GIRLIES ;
so this year i'll be taking a semester online so i've been dabbling in figuring out the perfect routine for an online school regimen. one in which i could balance personal and academic life in a healthy way (get sunlight everyday, sleep on time etc) some things that im going to prioritize while doing a semester online are ->
♡ getting fresh air everyday
♡ going for a walk everyday and making sure to stay active
♡ NOT doing school work in bed
so a tip i've learned is that the things that u do in bed, your mind will like, associate ur bed with it. so for example if ur constantly playing video games in bed, when its time to relax and go to bed, when ur in bed your mind will be like "time to play video games". so i will not be doing school work in bed, also for a healthy change of scenery…💬🎀
♡ going out with my friends and calling them everyday so that im not isolated
♡ keeping a steady and productive routine
SETTING GOALS ;
lets be goal oriented, A+ academic barbies this year ✍🏽. to make sure that ur doing ur very best its important to set goals for urself. having something to strive for is a great way to stay motivated and disciplined during the year. my goal for my junior year is to keep my straight A streak and finish with my law distinction (im 3/4 of the way done). and ofc its important to break down ur goals, and i'll give an example of how i did this.
so in freshman year ik i wanted a distinction in law, and to get a distinction in law i would have to take 4 separate law courses. there are 4 years in highschool so if i took one law course per school year i'd have my distinction. but i wanted to expedite the process so i took one course freshman year, and two courses sophomore year. this year i will take one more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this frees up SO much time for me to get another distinction and since i've already taken a course of business in freshman year, i'll strive for my business distinction too…💬🎀
if u dont know where to start with goal setting for school here are some ideas ->
♡ maintain ur current GPA or try and raise it
♡ never get below a B on any assignment or test
♡ do every single homework assignment (never take a zero)
STAYING ORGANIZED ;
staying organized is CRUCIAL for being successful in school. i use notion to keep myself organized during the school year. by putting down dates for tests in my calendar, ik when i need to start preparing. and by making a todo list everyday i can stay on top of my assignment.
if u struggle with school organization, set aside an hour a day to just make sure that everything is in its place. and it doesnt even have to be an hour, just set aside time every single day to make sure that everything it where its supposed to be. it'll save you SO much time in the future and you'll rly thank urself for it in the future.
and to end this post, i'll share some school/academic related affirmations 💗
🗒️ im literally the definition of beauty and brains
📔 im the top of my class
🗒️ i must have perfect memory cuz i remember everything im taught in class
📔 im literally a GENIUS
🗒️ i effortlessly stay at the top of my class
📔 wow, im smart, pretty, AND talented?? god rly does have favorites

Just want to remind you guys that if there’s anything you’re going through, hurting yourself or ending it is not the best answer. Most problems are temporary and can be solved with work. Some are chronic and you have to adapt to life with them but that doesn’t mean that life isn’t worth living. There is someone out there willing to help and who cares. Please, please reach out to someone. I say this all in the memory of a classmate who killed themselves almost two years ago today. He was depressed because his best friend died in a tragic accident. People were willing and ready to reach out and help, but no one knew until it was too late. I’ve survived three attempts so I know that you find a place below rock bottom at that stage, but you rise up eventually and life will be okay again. I’m not a happy go lucky gal, I have OCD, depression, anxiety, and in a few years, I’ll probably have an incurable genetic lung cancer or have to get a total mastectomy from genetically induced breast cancer. I love life, I have accepted these things and I encourage you to live the life that you have, even through trials and tribulations.
I realize my tags can be random, but I’m reaching out to especially those who read my stuff
If you take comfort in it, here’s something that gets me through my bad days:
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you” - 1 Peter 5:7
“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” Matthew 11:28
“I have said all these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” - John 16:33

Public speaking and keeping and audience interested
Hey there it’s Chloé here, for today’s topic I decided on public speaking and how to keep an audience interested.
Why am I discussing this topic? My presentations and public speaking skills always get praised and I get asked for tips by people all the time, so I feel qualified to give you guys some tips.
Let’s not waste anymore unnecessary time.
These tips will be perfect for presentations, especially if you are in school or your job requires presentations. (This is specifically about talking to an audience, a post about how to have conversations will come later)
1. Naturalness.
You need to be able to keep people interested and talk about a topic without having to look at a cheat sheet.
Try and remember as much as you can but talk about it in your own words. That’s how you make it interesting and natural.
However if “uhmms” are natural to you obviously try and avoid that.
2. Eye contact and using your hands.
This will be a hard for a lot of people but you need to look at the audience, look around while talking and use your hands to explain stuff, that way when you are slowing down or forgetting something you keep them distracted.
Eye contact is a must in a lot of situations, it shows that you are confident.
Keeping your hands visible also builds trust with the audience.
3. Pace.
Do not speak too fast or too slow keep a calm pace.
Make slight pauses when you ask a question so the audience will want to know what you are going to say. For example (staying on theme): “But how do you actually stay calm while giving a presentation?” short 1-2 second pause and make eye contact with the audience, then move on to the next sentence.
The audience will start to really question it and want to know the answer as well. This will become more natural the more you do it.
Practice it in the mirror if you want to.
4. Intonation, emotion and emphasis .
Going back to the sentence from the last tip: “But how do you actually stay calm while giving a presentation?”. If you say this in an even tone with no emotion, people will not care what you say.
Speak with better intonation, learn when to have a more serious tone or when to have a more happy tone.
Now onto emphasis: “But how do you actually stay calm while giving a presentation?”.
In this situation emphasizing ‘actually’ while speaking would be ideal. It shows that you know the answer to that question, that you thought about it.
5. Expression.
Facial expressions, the audience loves that.
When you’re speaking match your facial expression with what you’re talking about.
Don’t overdo it, it won’t look natural.
6. Posture and body language.
Have relaxed body language but keep a good and straight posture.
Good posture will show that you are confident and will make you feel more confident.
People will also take you more serious if you carry yourself in a serious way.
7. Interesting presentation.
If you are a creative person, make a creative presentation. This surely helps if you aren’t good at public speaking since it will be a distraction.
My latest presentation was for a fashion class I had, I made it in the form of an online magazine.
If you combine good public speaking with interesting presentations there is nothing to worry about.
Here we have our public speaking tips, the tips mentioned above are ones that I use and have helped me immensely. Every time i do a presentation on anything people always ask me how I do it, so I thought I’d share.
Thank you for reading.
Hope you have an awesome day if it’s still starting, if it already ended I hope you had a great day. Tomorrow is always a brand new day, making mistakes is fine.
Au revoir
-Xoxo Chloé C.

From one burnt out student to another
This semester has been an absolute nightmare for me, so welcome to the resulting post where I try to help other people who are in the same boat!
How about we run through a quick list together, okay?
Unclench your jaw, relax your shoulders, relax your face, unclench your fists
Are you sitting in the shape of a C right now? *hitting you with a broom* straighten your back out!!
Maybe get up and stretch while you're at it!
Have you taken your meds today? If not, go get 'em.
Have you eaten enough today? Coffee/energy drinks are not a meal!!
What have you eaten today? Do you need to get something to snack on?
Have you had any water today?
Do you need to rest? There is NO shame in taking a nap or relaxing. If someone does shame you, send them my way
How long has it been since you moved from where you are right now? Maybe move to another room if you can.
How long has it been since you looked away from your screen? Take a little 5-10 minute break to rest your eyes :)
How long has it been since you've showered? (No shame in this one either, it's okay if you can't do it. You're not judged here.)
Do you need to get into some fresh, comfy clothes?
If the weather in your area will allow it, can you open a window or go sit outside?
Affirmations:
My grades do not define me
I am more than a grade/a gpa
I am allowed to make mistakes
I am allowed to rest
Taking breaks is necessary for my well being
This semester/school year will not last forever
It's okay to take time for myself
I do not need to be productive all the time
I am capable
I am smart
I do not need to perform to perfection all the time
My mental/physical/spiritual/emotional health is more important than school
It is okay to ask for help
Asking for help does not make me weak or less capable
Assignments should not be valued over sleep/food/self care
If you have the energy, maybe try some of these:
Reach out to a friend/family member/mutual
Change your sheets
Take your trash out
Pick stuff up off the floor if there is anything
Do your dishes/run the dishwasher
Do a load of laundry/put any clothes away
Journal
Schedule any needed doctor's/dentist's/therapy appointments
Leave your home for a little bit
Go do something you enjoy
Create something
Go for a walk
Cook your favorite meal
You are doing amazing, and I'm so proud of you. You can and will get through this. You're not alone <3
As always, please feel free to reach out or send me an ask if you need someone to talk to!

Scott! I’m an incoming college freshman going in for an art degree. What’s the best advice you can give to a little guy like me?
PS. Thanks for being so inspiring to me! :)
Hi. I don't know if this is the "best advice", but this is what I would tell 18 year old me if I could go back to 1987...
I know you like comic books and you want to be the artist on Spider-Man one day. But... use this time to learn about Art Nouveau and Impressionism and all of the OTHER wonderful kinds of art in the world. Also, I know you love ONLY colored pencils right now. And you're REALLY good at it and you want to make a good impression so you want to use a medium you know best.... BUT... take these 4 years to learn painting. Try new mediums. Experiment. Grow.
Don't look at the next 4 years like you HAVE to get good grades and you HAVE to make good art. Look at the next 4 years as a chance to finally focus ONLY on art and get exposed to other artists and styles and techniques.
Use this time to expand your worldview. Play. Have fun.
Your art can grow SO much if you just step out of your comfort zone and let yourself TRY something new.
That's what I would tell my 18 year old self in 1987 going to the Academy of Art in San Francisco.
I think I would have learned SO much more had I done that.
I hope that helps. And congratulations!
Sending Big Hugs from the Hobbit Hole. ♥♥♥

₊˚⊹ ᰔ it-girl school tips ᝰ.ᐟ
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
a new semester is around the corner for a lot of us, and i’m seeing so many blog posts about study/school tips, and i thought i’d share a few of my own that i’ve began to implement into my own school routine that helped me succeed during the fall semester!
just to preface: i took 2, almost 3, gap years after my first year at a university. i realized i was so burnt out after high school and my mental health wasn’t where i needed it to be, so i took a very much needed break! i started back up in school earlier last year in the spring, and i am flourishing! i’ve reconnected with my love and passion for my education and i’ve eased myself back into a comfortable, but effective, routine that’s helped me succeed!
let’s begin !!
ᝰ.ᐟ find/create a good study environment
having a cozy, comfortable, and nice place to get your studying done will make your sessions so much more enjoyable! you’ll feel more motivated to get work done in a space that you feel good in! so whether it be your own space, your favorite café, or even your school’s library, having a good environment to focus on your schoolwork will increase your productivity and make you feel good about studying!
a darling mutual of mine created this post that has helpful tips on creating your desired study space - @glowettee ♡︎ i also highly recommend her page for other tips related to studying, personal growth, & just becoming that girl!
ᝰ.ᐟ make use of a planner
planners are essential in maintaining organization throughout the semester/school year! whether it’s a digital or physical planner, find one that’s appealing to you! find a planner that suits your aesthetic, or your desired aesthetic, and make good use of it. it’ll help you keep track of what days & times you have a certain class, important due dates, and planning out your homework schedule!
if you have a pretty plain planner, decorate it! use fun or aesthetically pleasing stickers and use fun colored pens & highlighters; just make it super personable to you!
ᝰ.ᐟ organize, organize, organize
make sure any and all paperwork for all of your courses are organized! i personally love using accordion folders because they have tabs that you can label for each class or each week of a class! having some kind of organization method will keep you and your schoolwork in check!
how to maintain organization:
as your semester progresses, it gets pretty easy to let your organization slip through the cracks and turn into a mess.
create an organized binder to store older papers from your courses! this will be useful when midterms or finals come around and you need to look back at old worksheets, handouts, etc. you can have a big binder that’s divided by different tabs dedicated to each class you’re taking or you can get different binders for each class and organize that way!
throw out anything that no longer serves you! amongst all the papers, notes, packets, there’s bound to be things that you will no longer need. toss them out, shred them, just get rid of them! the more papers you have stocked up in folders or binders, the less room you’ll have to keep track of the real important stuff
track each week of the semester! keep that syllabus handy so you can keep track of what’s going on for each week in your classes. when you reach the point of midterms, a long weekend, or even a break (like spring break) find some time to look at the past weeks & the weeks ahead and reorganize and just reset your organization of papers, notes, etc.
ᝰ.ᐟ create a checklist for your assignments
as your classes pile up, so will your homework, and it starts to get overwhelming when you start thinking about everything you have to complete for the week. creating a checklist for what needs to get done will allow you to prioritize the most important assignments, help you practice time management, and also feel satisfaction as you check off each assignment!
this helped me immensely throughout the semester. majority of my classes were 8 week courses, so everything was pretty fast paced and due dates came up a lot sooner than i thought. whenever i made a checklist for everything i needed to do, it eased a lot of my stress because i allowed myself to break down each class and the corresponding assignments & it made me realize that i didn’t have too much to do (or at least i tricked my brain into thinking that)
i made my checklist literally through my notes app on my phone, and it was so satisfying to add the little green checkmark emoji after each assignment!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ᝰ.ᐟ don’t be afraid to ask questions
any time i struggled in a class and i was too afraid/embarrassed to ask a question, i ended up doing poorly in that class and it made studying and completing assignments so much more challenging for me. so don’t be afraid to ask questions! your teachers/professors/instructors are there to help you! they’re there to answer any and all questions you might have! asking questions also just helps you understand the material better and get any clarification you might need!
the more questions you ask, the better informed you are, and the more likely you’ll succeed!
ᝰ.ᐟ use school supplies you love
having those aesthetically pleasing school supplies actually gave me so much more motivation to get work done! using stuff that you’re excited to use during your semester will make doing schoolwork & studying so much more enjoyable for you!
ᝰ.ᐟ set the mood for your study sessions
listen to a good study playlist, light a candle, set up some cozy lighting, grab your favorite drink, and just set a good, calming mood for yourself while you study! i love having lofi play softly in the background while i’m studying, and since i do most of my studying at home, i make the lighting in my room nice and dim and get my desk lamp set up. i’ll also have a cup of coffee, tea, or water near by that i can sip on!
ᝰ.ᐟ take breaks
burn-out is extremely real and you’ll quickly feel it when you spend majority of your time studying and giving yourself way less time to rest and relax.
for longer study sessions, take 20 min. breaks after each hour! i remember taking an english course when i first started college and one of the books we were required to read was one on studying tips! (i really wish i remembered what it was called, i unfortunately misplaced it) one of the things i remembered from that book was the 20 minute rule. this time slot allows you an ample amount of time to rest your mind and take a break! you can rest your eyes, scroll through your phone, stand up/stretch and grab a snack, or just step away from your study area for 20 minutes!
set a timer! let’s say you wanna work on homework for an hour & a half, set a timer and just do all the work that you can within that time. once your timer goes off, stop doing what you’re doing and set another timer with the same amount of time to go do something you enjoy or get yourself to relax!
i can’t stress this enough: please take breaks. your mental/emotional well-being should always be your top priority! you can’t do your best in school if you, yourself, are not doing the best.
𝜗𝜚 final notes 𝜗𝜚
being that girl in school is only possible when you put your best foot forward. stay on top of your self care, keep yourself organized, and come up with a routine! a good routine will get you great results!
i wish you all a great start of your upcoming semester and i know that every single one of you will flourish during it too!
live and love, babe.
sincerely, juno ⭑.ᐟ
