this disability pride month i'd like to remind y'all that "visibly disabled" does not imply "mobility aid user" (nor anything else other than "people can see there is something about you that doesn't fit abled hegemony")
OP is autistic and talking about its experiences being autistic (AND multiply disabled). don't fucking touch if you have no solidarity towards autistic people.

"just be yourself" has always been one of my most hated things to hear from someone. it may sound simple and easy to you, but when you grew up never able formed a single solid personality (because you grew up autistic or for some other reason) and/or have always felt more like 20 different personalities in a trench coat who fight over who is supposed to be in charge, that "simple" advice is so much less simple.....it can even seem impossible.

seeing twitter weeb bros talking ab some "menhera girls r my type" and wanting their vtuber oshis to get "landmine outfits" but knowing theyre lying and wouldnt actually put up w a real jirai kei girl is. rlly fucking sad. i want a partner who shares my interests but weeb guys think menhera means yandere uwu babygirl and landmine clothes r a sexy costume and weeb girls think menhera is "problematic" but dont know its original meaning and that "landmine type is a clothing style w a reclaimed name!" so ik ill likely never find a partner who both shares my interests and is willing to be there for me when im mentally unwell

Little disclaimer about endo “syscourse”. Mild TW!for brief mentions of $H and Su1cid3
Okay, as an anti-endo system one thing we feel the need to address about “syscourse” is that when people say they’re anti endo or try to educate someone, that is not anyone trying to invalidate anyone’s experience. It’s just when you claim a trauma disorder can form without trauma and then go around spreading misinformation it creates a stigma around the disorder that impacts so many people with dissociative disorders, even if they’re not part of a system. Your lived experience ARE valid, HOWEVER, there are other explanations for what you’re experiencing, a lot of which don’t require trauma. It’s okay to be wrong but it’s not okay to create a stigma around already heavily stigmatized disorders and mental health conditions. Even when it comes to things like IFS therapy, there’s an important distinction that it’s not the same as an actual system, yes the parts are valid and real, but nowhere near the same, and in all honesty just because the s stands for systems, doesn’t mean using that terminology and other terms created for/by systems doesn’t do genuine harm.
The first people to popularize the concept of having this disorder without trauma were not professionals, one of which had the disorder but denied it and refused to take any treatments, and the other didn’t have it but claimed he did because he had some dissociative symptoms, even though you can dissociate without trauma and have some other dissociative disorders without trauma(some require trauma, some don’t, but for all o them it’s more likely to be developed with it). Both of these people created very dangerous stereotypes about systemhood, both encouraging the stereotypes we are dangerous, and just spreading a lot of misinformation and even encouraging su1cid3 and $H. Additionally, tulpamancy and religious beliefs are not the same as being a system. The DSM (and I believe the ICD as well) specifies that. So please stop using system terminology or claiming to be one without trauma, your experiences are valid, but that doesn’t automatically make you a system. Please do some research.
With that said, any repeated or prolonged trauma is “enough” to form the disorder, and it doesn’t need to be super severe on the brink of death abuse or anything like that. Medical trauma is a valid, emotional abuse/neglect is valid, sibling trauma is valid, your trauma is valid even if it “wasn’t that bad”. It does need to be during formative years to form a system, but what you went through, no matter how old you were is still valid, and no one is trying to say it isn’t. It IS possible you don’t remember your trauma, but dont force yourself to remember it without professional help, and don’t claim to have a trauma based disorder until you’re sure you have trauma.Thank you for your time reading this.
also this is the one post we’re not putting anti endo tags, outside of this post and conversations that may stem from this Endos please DNI.

I attempted to ask my parents if I could go to therapy last night because I suspect that I may have undiagnosed ADHD.
My Dad scoffed, as if annoyed, and said “If anyone has difficulty doing anything nowadays it’s because of some mental something or other.”
- Says the man who I’ve suspected for years to be an undiagnosed autistic or other sort of neurodivergent. (Not that I’d ever say that aloud because God forbid.)
And I was so stunned and hurt that I all of my points/arguments left my brain.
Just- imagine being so close yet so far away from the POINT.
And my Mom was hardly any better. She shut me down by saying how “everyone struggles to focus on things they’re not interested in,” and “Well that’s part of your Asperger’s!”
… This is exactly why I’ve grown to HATE being a so-called “high functioning” autistic person. Any time I bring up wanting to go to therapy for unrelated issues it gets either brushed off or forgotten about because I’m “high functioning” and I don’t externalize my mental health symptoms like my sibling does (and therefore it isn’t an embarrassment or inconvenience) so it isn’t an issue and I must be fine.
Maybe I should just explode. Drink. Smoke something. Scream. Break some shit. Let my grades drop. THEN could I get some therapy? (Not that I would ever actually do any of that but sometimes I feel like that’s what it would take for my parents to take me seriously when I say I’m not ok.)
-Anyway. Just figured if anywhere would have people who understand this experience, it would be on Tumblr.

just like queer people, autistics will find each other even before knowing they’re autistic, and one by one everyone will have their realization until you’re comically losing you’re shit every time because fucking AGAIN?!? ANOTHER ONE?!?

While the World's Slowest Slowburn makes the most logical sense, between Kiran and Alfonse. In my heart. Moe manages to find a way to get in an overly handsy way too intimate WAY too soon I just got my ass ghosted or perhaps dumped situationship with Alfonse. In a demisexuality and trust issues honoring way. ALL under Moe's assumption, that "Well he's Not gonna get attached to me so It's Fine."
#moe tag#moe lore#BUT. A BIG DISCLAIMER PERHAPS. is i can NEVER make up my mind on any 'official' sequence of events.#still i cannot resist. thinking what would be the funniest most unique form of torture to apply here#like moe sucking alfonse off before they even kiss. alfonse along the way getting to know moe#is making some fairly reasonable assumptions all things considered. given the information he has#and in a nonjudgmental way ofc ofc#only. as he slowly but surely unlocks more information from moe. the reality dawns on him.#the one relationship moe has ever been in was long distance. he doesn't quite grasp all of moe's explanation.#but they seemed to be something akin to pen pals. they never had a chance to meet.#moe's character is funky bc it IS very blunt and upfront and honest to a fault. HOWEVER.#DESPITE. ALSO being So Bad at hiding things. despite all of that. it still manages do this sort of thing.#like. so much. not telling him that it was moe who ghosted its old friend. him not even finding out#moe has a brother. it just straight up did not mention that until alfonse trying to comfort moe is like#'you must miss your sisters terribly... 😔' and moe is like. in the most autistic way possible. well yes.#but this isn't about them actually.#this is WELL into being friends w moe at this point. again no solid timelines but moe keeps Pulling This Shit#and then there's. gesturing broadly to all of mani#like i am ALWAYS caught between what would be the most piningful payoff or what would be just the Worst way to do it.#and EXTREMELY often. the funniest option wins. also alfonse is going to kill moe w hammers.#maybe the secret here though is. there's still a slowburn occurring here.

nothing personal at op of this but they tagged this post with autism tags, so I have to respond since they are clearly including autism in "neurodivergent" in this take.
not going to go through every point but literally every sentence of this is just... so obviously betraying a misunderstanding of what the average experience of autism is. like you need to understand that not only is the vast majority of autistic people unable to "communicate in a mature way" by any typical definition, but also a significant percentage of autistic people never learned to speak at all or can only speak a few words. many of them can use aac to communicate to various degrees, but some functionally cannot communicate in pretty much any form. mid/high support needs or intellectual disability is very common, and even for autistics without intellectual disability and with low support needs, autism is not just "liking shows with a younger audience" or "getting overwhelmed by tasks." really the uncharitable interpretation of what this sounds like is "it's fine to have problems as long as you are not disabled in a way I see as unacceptable."
besides the fact that, you know, autism is a developmental disability and thus by definition entails developmental delays/"abnormalities" such as, you know, "being immature." and "refusing to cooperate or make compromises" is quite literally rephrasing several symptoms used to give a diagnosis. autism as a label describes a collection of symptoms and it makes no sense to say "having disability that causes you to do [x] is no excuse to do [x]"
if you go to the logical conclusion of the “other people’s comfort” route you end up with “you should be able to mask perfectly all the time in public” which almost no autistics can do anyway. yes obviously We live in a society but it is weird to say this in the context of autism where the behavior you want may not be possible from everyone all the time.
again this is not about op personally but generally this whole idea that I see quite commonly actually and I wanted to critique it. do not harass them! op if you see this sorry if you meant something else but this is how the post reads.

You know, when I was first researching neurodivergence (and autism and ADHD in particular) and wondering if I was, in fact, neurodivergent, I brought my conclusions to my mom and she said:
"I mean, you're gifted, right? So you already are neurodivergent???"
So here's to her (kinda) and her words. Giftedness is a neurodivergence, in my opinion. From what I've seen, a lot of the traits overlap with common autistic and/or ADHD traits too, especially regarding overexcitabilities, and a lot of researchers talking about the topic describe giftedness with the same kind of "your brain is just made differently" and "you're just wired differently" language as they use for other neurodivergent conditions. But I also say this because I've seen some gifted people who, while struggling with some "autistic/ADHD traits," don't have all the traits necessary for an autism or ADHD diagnosis. Giftedness is a label for them that encompasses the struggles they have without saying that they don't struggle enough or forcing them to try to fit into a mold that isn't them. And I get that; when I was first questioning, I didn't think I had enough autistic traits to count for a diagnosis either, so I took comfort in a "gifted" label. (Not to say that all gifted people are just autistic people and/or people with ADHD that don't realize, or that all gifted people are just people who don't have enough traits for a diagnosis! That was just the case for me and the folks I've been around, but I've also heard the case of it not being that.)
But if I am gifted, then I also have autism. A lot of my struggles are, honestly, just better described by autism than just by a byproduct of giftedness. My struggles with people and with "being too much," my sensory differences (and yes, sometimes issues), my stimming, and some of my executive dysfunction all sound like autistic traits to me more than a mix of psychomotor and sensual overexcitabilities and a whole bunch of coincidental byproducts of my being gifted and hanging out with nongifted peers. Don't get me wrong; based on my family history, background, and traits, I honestly probably am gifted lol. But it's not just that.
So this is me saying that if the people around you are saying that you're just gifted, you're free to look for other, perhaps better explanations for your feelings and experiences. But if you are just gifted, you're still free to call yourself neurodivergent! My gifted traits lead to me feeling just as ostracized sometimes as my autistic ones, so who am I to police that label?
