THE APPLE

The apple is most commonly known for being associated with the forbidden fruit that Eve eats in Catholicism which casts her and Adam out of heaven: original sin. However, apples are also symbolic to Pagan fertility goddesses, the seeds of which are five and showcase a pentagram when cut horizontally. The apple in any case, represents wisdom and knowledge, independent desire and curiosity. You are someone who seeks to understand the world better. You believe in independent thought and asking questions which to some may be hard to answer. There's been times where you may have persecuted for being different from how others expect you to act, but have never let that stop you from speaking your mind and taking what you want. However, be wary of leaping into things you don't understand. Knowledge is a wonderful, illuminating thing, but knowing too much can be a burden to some.

DATES

In Islam, during Ramadan, dates are used to break the daily fast that Muslims engage in and are sacred symbols of faith, abundance, longevity, hospitality and peace. In other faiths, they are also used to represent faith, power and pilgrimage. Dates, being high in sugar, are prosperous in desert regions and were known for keeping men from starvation. In the same way dates are subtly sweet, so are you. More even-tempered than others, though you likely have a more placid surface, your waters do run deep. You're someone who has a strong connection to whatever faith or belief system you believe in and enjoy engaging in deep conversations with those around you. Contemplation and gratitude are words that aren't rare in your vocabulary. You spend much of your time putting others before yourself, getting by on the dates of kindness alone. Just remember, you cannot survive to be there for other people; you have to put yourself first sometimes.

“buffy ended the show single :)” ok but only because her current love interest just DIED!! (he near quite literally died in her arms! in sacrifice for her!) her last words of the entire series were telling him she loves him and then saying his name in admiration. she isn’t single; she’s a widow.

As much as I adore conlangs, I really like how the Imperial Radch books handle language. The book is entirely in English but you're constantly aware that you're reading a "translation," both of the Radchaai language Breq speaks as default, and also the various other languages she encounters. We don't hear the words but we hear her fretting about terms of address (the beloathed gendering on Nilt) and concepts that do or don't translate (Awn switching out of Radchaai when she needs a language where "citizen," "civilized," and "Radchaai person" aren't all the same word) and noting people's registers and accents. The snatches of lyrics we hear don't scan or rhyme--even, and this is what sells it to me, the real-world songs with English lyrics, which get the same "literal translation" style as everything else--because we aren't hearing the actual words, we're hearing Breq's understanding of what they mean. I think it's a cool way to acknowledge linguistic complexity and some of the difficulties of multilingual/multicultural communication, which of course becomes a larger theme when we get to the plot with the Presgar Translators.
