first off, WOAH UR AN AMAZING ARTIST??? I RAN HERE IMMEDIATELY AFTER SEEING UR POST WITH RED HOOD AND THE COOL CITY BACKGROUND??? GOURMET MEAL BEHAVIOR 🙏🙏
second off...do you have any tips for backgrounds?
hghjkfdjg tysm!! it was really fun to draw! glad you like it!!!
had to think a bit about the tips. i think what i say might depends on how comfortable you are with bgs
if you are starting out, my biggest tip is the incredibly unfun one of learning perspective. perspective is to bgs like anatomy is to characters and knowing even a little bit helps a lot.
if you use procreate, it figures out most of the perspective for everyone and all i need to do is set the vanishing points to where i want. example, the grid for the bbb piece i did
just need to place a line and 3 dots. I use 3 point perspective on everything so for me it's always 3 dots. the vanishing points (VPs) on the horizon line (blue line) defines the planes stuff is on, the point top or bottom defines the angle of the viewer. for this case you are looking slightly down on dick and jason.
most of the time my vps aren't in the image so this is rare for me! but it's best to put the vps far away from each other or else you risk drawing outside of the 'cone of vision' (cov).
an example of how that would look
everything in the green is in your cov and looks normal. everything outside has this uncanny funhouse effect aka outside of your cov. which might be the effect you are going for! but it also might not be. anyways your choice now
after the perspective is figured out, it's an exercise in placing boxes within the grids.
things below the horizon line you will see the tops of. things above you will see the bottoms of.
if the boxes look correct, you can fill it in with whatever you want to build your bg. outside of ig stuff from dick's safehouse, you can fill them with chairs! shoes! more boxes!
this is more like bg 101 instead of tips oops. hopefully it's not too basic. everything after this is just rendering and crying tbh. but feel free to ask questions!
#asks and replies#im not a perspective master or anything#im just spitting out what i learned so far! and i hope it's correct haha#you can srsly ask me anything about my art if i can articulate it i'll tell you#edit: should actually be cone of vision not field of vision sorrysorry#art tips

Honestly, what a step up from head canoning that Tommy listens to Buck's info dumping to him not only him listening to Buck's story (where he info dumped his bee facts for sure) but also making a dorky science joke...
I mean "you're a vision in a cone". What a niche joke, I'm dead.
And look at how happy they are, they found in each other someone who listens to ramblings and understands dorky references that most people probably don't get.
#you're a vision in a cone#IM DEAD#also as a fellow adhder nothing feels greater than to be able to info dump on someone and be heard#or making weird niche references and them understanding#(you basically see vision through the cone cells)#911 abc#evan buckley#bi buck#queer#bucktommy#lgbtqia#kinley#tevan#tommy kinard#also in love how Bucks internet spirals helped the 118

The witty lines of this show are lost, even wasted, on buddies. They're missing what makes the show special.
#bucktommy#how can you not love the vision in a cone line?!#who cares if it's from a character you don't like it's fiction!#enjoy the good dialogue!#enjoy the smile the writers wanted you to have at this specific moment because it IS a good line!#even gerrard has good lines and he's a despicable character

Percy, Jason, and Thalia can see ultraviolet
Nico, Bianca, and Hazel have superb night vision
#hazel levesque#nico di angelo#bianca di angelo#jason grace#thalia grace#in total darkness the underworld babes use their powers to get around#but for pitch black nighttime they only need like. one twelfth of light#(for reference cats need one sixth. idk abt other animals)#shrimp colours are not a thing btw. they have additional cones becuase they can't blend colours. however some fish can see in UV so#percy gets that bonus. and if that ends up being debunked then he gets to see in the loser human vision pile with everyone else lol#happy talks pjo

Oh hey, fun fact I just remembered: at the edges of your vision, you can see motion but not color.
Seems wrong, doesn’t it? There’s no black-and-white area to the sides. But that’s because your brain guesses and fills it in.
Here’s the test:
Get some squares of colored paper, or anything else that’s all the same size but different colors. Felt pens, DVD cases, whatever. Pick one without looking (or have a friend do it for you.)
Look straight forward, holding the thing out to the side and behind you, so you can’t quite see it yet. Move it forward until you do. Wiggle as necessary.
When you first see something moving, you won’t be able to say what color it is, and it will be maddening. You can guess! But it’s just a guess! Then when you look, you may be completely wrong!
It’s a fun game for parties, and blowing your friends’ minds.
#thanks Mr Goodhart from high school science class#one of many cool things he taught us#fun facts#color vision#I thought of this now because a vividly colored car passed me on the freeway earlier#and I guessed wrong about what color it was#another car was in the way#blocking the view#so it first appeared as a brief flash of motion#and what I THOUGHT was a clear lemon-yellow#then when it got in front of the other car#and I got a better look#it was as green as the Hulk#now I have excellent color vision and I like to think I can trust my eyes#so this is just the weirdest thing for me#it's because of where the rods and cones are placed in your eyes btw#fascinating

This is my best recreation of what I see in the center of my vision if I'm out in the sun and I look at something flat like the sky or a wall.
Do other people have this? Does yours look different? I feel like I googled this before but I forgot what the phenomena was called.

Thorn hates being watered. There is no specific trauma associated with it but it fills her with irrational rage and disappointment… especially if she considers you a friend.
Thorns first crush was someone who kicked her ass for being a bully. This was before she was cursed.
Thorns favorite drink is Apple Cider.
Thorns eyes are red. The brightness depending on the power of her soul (her curse drains her determination).

they need to make a search engine where you can type in a really specific question & it pulls up an exact answer no matter how poorly your question was phrased
#I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF THERES A SPECIFIC LIGHT LEVEL AT WHICH HUMAN VISION SWITCHES FROM CONES TO RODS#WHY WONT MY PHONE ANSWER MY QUESTIONS. TECHNOLOGY IS USELESS#rambling

please enjoy this photo of a Very Polite Boy nicely modeling his new Stupid Baby collar ❤️
#squirrel speaks#hopefully this'll be more comfortable for him than the plastic cone#it's slightly heavier but it's adjustable and soft and it doesn't obstruct his vision that much#another perk is that it also looks adorable on him

The Science of Seeing Colors: Why Everyone’s Color Experience is Different
Colors have an undeniable impact on our lives, influencing emotions, decisions, and even the way we interact with the world. Have you ever paused to wonder if the vibrant scarlet you see is the same red someone else perceives? Welcome to the fascinating realm of color perception, where the science of sight meets the art of individuality. Today, we're diving into why and how different people might see colors differently.
The Science Behind Seeing Color
At its core, color perception is a dance between light, our eyes, and our brains. The eyes capture light, which is then interpreted by the brain, forming the colors we see. But here's where it gets interesting—what we actually perceive can vary widely from person to person.
Cones and Color Vision: The human eye contains three types of cone cells, each sensitive to different wavelengths of light (red, green, and blue). Variations in these cells can lead to different color perceptions.
Color Blindness: This isn’t just about seeing the world in black and white. People with color vision deficiencies might find it challenging to distinguish between certain colors, often red and green.
Factors Influencing Color Perception
Genetics: Our genes play a significant role in determining how we perceive color. Genetic differences can lead to variations in cone cell distribution, affecting how we see color.
Lighting Conditions: The lighting around us can dramatically alter our color perception. A shirt might look navy under fluorescent lights but seem almost black in dim lighting.
Neurological Factors: Our brains process colors differently, too. This is why some people claim certain colors have a "warmer" or "cooler" tone than others might describe.
Cultural Influences: Culture shapes how we interpret colors. For instance, white is often associated with purity in Western societies, while it might represent mourning in others.
Age and Eye Health: As we age, our lenses can yellow, which might affect the way we perceive certain colors. Additionally, conditions like cataracts can influence color vision.
Curious Cases in Color Perception
Tetrachromacy: A rare occurrence where individuals possess a fourth type of cone cell, potentially allowing them to see up to 100 million colors—a whole spectrum we can't even imagine!
Synesthesia: Some people experience synesthesia, where stimulation of one sensory pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second pathway. This can result in seeing specific colors when hearing certain sounds.
Embracing Colorful Diversity
Understanding that we all see colors a bit differently is both intriguing and useful. It reminds us of the subjective nature of perception and can foster greater empathy and communication in design, marketing, and even daily interactions. So, next time you and a friend disagree on whether a dress is blue or black, embrace the diversity of perception and enjoy the kaleidoscope of perspectives!
In a world brimming with color, isn't it wonderful to know that we each have a unique lens through which we view it? Whether you're an artist seeking inspiration or just someone admiring a sunset, the variations in color perception add an extra layer of beauty to the world around us. Keep seeing the world your way—after all, that's what makes it truly vibrant!

sorry raven overture design appreciation post. look at this guy
#the mask is at once pretty simple and dear god why. theres like a jaw separation for it????? coin over one of the eyes?#your vision cannot be good in that thing. i get the thematics but as the number one fan of not having a visible face. i have concerns.#his masterghost is just a cone. why is it just a cone.#you're telling me the guy who has been around since the crusades. the actual. real world crusades. and all he has for a ghost is the CONE#did they just? not get around to modeling one for him? is it a placeholder that never got updated?????#overture is one of the games ever made i love it so much.#oh yeah. this is one of the other pallets for him if the colors look a bit weird that's why.
