The Science of Seeing Colors: Why Everyone’s Color Experience is Different
Tumblr media
Colors have an undeniable impact on our lives, influencing emotions, decisions, and even the way we interact with the world. Have you ever paused to wonder if the vibrant scarlet you see is the same red someone else perceives? Welcome to the fascinating realm of color perception, where the science of sight meets the art of individuality. Today, we're diving into why and how different people might see colors differently.
The Science Behind Seeing Color
At its core, color perception is a dance between light, our eyes, and our brains. The eyes capture light, which is then interpreted by the brain, forming the colors we see. But here's where it gets interesting—what we actually perceive can vary widely from person to person.
Cones and Color Vision: The human eye contains three types of cone cells, each sensitive to different wavelengths of light (red, green, and blue). Variations in these cells can lead to different color perceptions.
Color Blindness: This isn’t just about seeing the world in black and white. People with color vision deficiencies might find it challenging to distinguish between certain colors, often red and green.
Factors Influencing Color Perception
Genetics: Our genes play a significant role in determining how we perceive color. Genetic differences can lead to variations in cone cell distribution, affecting how we see color.
Lighting Conditions: The lighting around us can dramatically alter our color perception. A shirt might look navy under fluorescent lights but seem almost black in dim lighting.
Neurological Factors: Our brains process colors differently, too. This is why some people claim certain colors have a "warmer" or "cooler" tone than others might describe.
Cultural Influences: Culture shapes how we interpret colors. For instance, white is often associated with purity in Western societies, while it might represent mourning in others.
Age and Eye Health: As we age, our lenses can yellow, which might affect the way we perceive certain colors. Additionally, conditions like cataracts can influence color vision.
Curious Cases in Color Perception
Tetrachromacy: A rare occurrence where individuals possess a fourth type of cone cell, potentially allowing them to see up to 100 million colors—a whole spectrum we can't even imagine!
Synesthesia: Some people experience synesthesia, where stimulation of one sensory pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second pathway. This can result in seeing specific colors when hearing certain sounds.
Embracing Colorful Diversity
Understanding that we all see colors a bit differently is both intriguing and useful. It reminds us of the subjective nature of perception and can foster greater empathy and communication in design, marketing, and even daily interactions. So, next time you and a friend disagree on whether a dress is blue or black, embrace the diversity of perception and enjoy the kaleidoscope of perspectives!
In a world brimming with color, isn't it wonderful to know that we each have a unique lens through which we view it? Whether you're an artist seeking inspiration or just someone admiring a sunset, the variations in color perception add an extra layer of beauty to the world around us. Keep seeing the world your way—after all, that's what makes it truly vibrant!

I'm not explaining why re-imagining characters as POC is not the same as white-washing, here of all places should fucking understand.
#personal#delete later#no patrick. “black washing” is not as harmful as white washing.#come on guys get it together#seeing people in my reblogs talk about “reverse racism” and double standards is genuinely hypocrisy#say it with me: white washing is intrinsically tied to a historical and systematic erasure of poc figures literature and history.#it is an inherently destructive act that deplatforms underrepresented faces and voices#in favor of a light-skinned aesthetic hegemony#redesigning characters as poc is an act of dismantling symbols of whiteness in fiction in favor of diversification and reclamation#(note that i am talking about individual acts by individual artists as was the topic of this discourse. not on an industry-scale)#redesigning characters as poc is not tied to hundreds of years of systemic racism and abuse and power dynamics. that is a fact.#you are not replacing an underrepresented person with an oft-represented person. it is the opposite#if you feel threatened or upset or uncomfortable about this then sorry but you are not aware of how much more worse it is for poc#if representation is unequal then these acts cannot be equivalent. you can't point to an imbalanced scale and say they weigh the same#if you recognize that bipoc people are minorities then you should recognize that these two things are not the same#while i agree that “black washing” can lead to color-blind casting and writing the behavior here is on an individual level#a black artist drawing their favorite anime character as black because they feel a shared solidarity is not a threat to you#i mean. most anime characters are east asian and i as an east asian person certainly don't feel threatened or erased. neither should you.#there's much to be said about the politics of blackwashing (i don't even know if that's the right word for it)#but point standing. whitewashing is an inherently more destructive act. both through its history of maintaining power dynamics#and the simple fact that it's taking away from groups of people who have less to begin with#if you feel upset or uncomfortable about a fictional white character being redesigned as poc by an artist on twitter#i sincerely hope you're able to explore these feelings and find avenues to empathizing with poc who have had their figures#(both real and fictional) erased; buried; and replaced by white figures for hundreds of years#i sincerely hope you can understand the difference in motivations and connotations behind whitewashing and blackwashing#classic bixels “i'm not talking about this chat. i'm not” (puts my media studies major to use in the tags and talks the fuck outta it)

The fact that you depict characters as both aroace and in relationships makes me actually so happy because everyone always thinks that shipping is off the table for those characters and forgets sex/romance stances exist, you filled me with so much joy ;w;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s a weird stereotype indeed smhh (harmful even) making it sound like individuals who are aro/ace are incapable of being/falling in love- or just being able to feel love in general

Well what CANNOT be assumed from your art is that you’re colorblind
Because it’s so dang vibrant
well thank you! I'll even show you my secret to vibrant art!
call it overcompensation, but i tend to purposefully exaggerate colors when i draw! While i know what colors go well together in theory, i cant see it myself. (at least my old color theory class helped me figure out how to somewhat fake the colors, lol)
to show what i mean, here's an example i made! My girl Rust, I KNOW she's orange, I made her myself after all. but to make sure other people know, i exaggerate the colors and push the colors to prove my point.
Tumblr media
both of these look the same to me. I cant tell the difference, but using the color wheel i can see that the version on the right is more desaturated and has less vibrant colors. im not sure how stark the difference is, if its even visible to other people.
basically i know what colors go well together, and how they are seen in theory, but when it comes to my own vision, most of what i see tends to be either brown, grey, or i simply go off of warm or cool tones.
fake it till you make it, baby!

Sometimes I sit down to think about the true ramifications of how / what the Fizz Bots are to Fizzarolli,
Imagine robotic clones ( sexual, at that ) being made of you and they are not only modeled after you in physical appearance, but have a likeness to your personality, mannerisms and general demeanor. Imagine they say the things you would, possibly act in the same way you would.
What's worse, is that they're made in your likeness in real time; their production / manufacturing ages along with you,
Imagine you SEE these things being assaulted, used & abused in public; these clones take it all with a smile. Soulless, mindless... But as if that's not enough, then realizing that they may just have sentience. Or at least, they give off the impression they do. And on top of ALL that... they have chunks of your memories, your past; they're you, but at the same time, they aren't,
What do you do with that information? How do you treat them ( yourself? )? What's the end game?

Sometimes, when I listen to a particularly good song, I can envision a scene and the emotions brought with it, and it makes me sad that my art and animation skills aren’t good enough yet to depict it to others the way I see it

i was reading a BNHA fic that poked fun at how ochako's quirk isn't really "zero-gravity," and i had an idea for a crossover that either has already been done or desperately needs to be:
MHA Student File:
Name: Uraraka Ochako
Class: 1-A
Quirk: Mass Effect
What if Uraraka's quirk wasn't... quite... like in canon?

Nothing like some light substance abuse to really make you feel like a child again
#me sitting in my room shaking in silence after turning all my lights off quickly and locking my bedroom door and holding my breath as my#mother turns the light on outside to let the dog out and the light between the blinds comes pouring into my rook#on the carpet I see her shadow as she walks past#minutes feel like hours as I wait for her to sulk away back to her cave. I open my bedroom door to sneak away to the bathroom and the light#from the kitchen is visible in the hallway. this feels like a personal attack when you’re a child sneaking around in the late hours. it#feels like we’re two mountain lions claiming territory in this house and you are cornering me in my bedroom just like when I was a child#I am typing this from under three blankets layered over each other to hide the light from my screen (with reduced white point) just in case#my mother walks outside near my window or near my bedroom door.#I feel so connected to my childhood self right now. sitting in the dark room with the only light coming from one window with the blinds draw#n. just the outline of each individual blind. and the light pouring in from under a locked bedroom door. if she knocks you have to answer.#if you don’t answer she will unlock it herself. locks never meant privacy in my home. I remember that clearly.#there was a lock on my childhood bedroom in my house in Maine. locked from the outside not the inside. they could lock me in but I couldn’t#lock anyone out. to be fair I had a habit of getting up in the middle of the night sneaking to the kitchen and eating slices of processed#individually wrapped cheese slices while watching horrifying shows like oobi and the fucking one with the band of four ppl they were all a#different colored instrument#idk anyways. there was a lock on my bedroom on the outside and I remember waking up in the morning before anyone else and playing in my room#and reading and waiting for like a half an hour every morning for someone to wake up and decide they had the energy to come deal with me#so that’s fun. undiagnosed adhd core.#coming out of whatever high trance I just had where I was connected to all of that childhood terror of being seen by my mother. I was afraid#of being caught even though I was doing nothing wrong. I was constantly afraid of something I did not have any reason to be afraid of.#it felt like at any moment I could be wrong place wrong timed with my mother and suddenly feel like the worst person ever. and I’m sure that#demanded a lot of attention and made her pull away from dealing with me I mean she had just lost her job and was running her own business#now and she was stressed and broke and trying to keep it together and I’m sure I was running around under her feet or my brother and I were#arguing but idk I just feel like I don’t remember anything from my childhood and what I do remember is being afraid of everything and is#that some emotional thing or is that just I have been anxious my entire life and no one cared until I was literally trying to kill my sled#self fucking autocorrect#anyways.#I think my mother has gone to bed so I’m going to slink into my own bathroom and maybe throw up a little 👍 I am excited to see what the fuck#I wrote here when I reread it tomorrow

I mean they’re not wrong. (Rant incoming BTW)
Gender is a purely and entirely personal experience. The thing about language is that it simplifies ideas; puts them into boxes and categories. Our pattern-seeking brains just do it on autopilot.
What someone imagines the word “woman” to mean is 100% different from what another person understands that word to mean. There are commonalities and overlap, but the two people definitely conceptualize the ideas uniquely.
In my opinion, there are distinct levels to this sort of thing
“People are born as either a man or a woman” is basic, entry level stuff. It’s simple, but has some very glaring holes and imperfections.
“There are more than two *genders* because gender and sex are different things” is like a 100 level class. Better than before but still missing some important details
“Someone who identifies as a man might have a large bust and someone who identifies as a woman might have a full beard. Identity does not lock you into presentation” is a 200 level class. It forces you to reconsider preconceptions, but there’s still that last missing piece.
“Nobody has the same gender because everyone’s idea of gender is different because words are made up” 300+ level class. The kind of shit that’ll have you up late at night thinking about life and humanity. Good shit.”
can’t stop thinking about my friend’s cishet partner who said last night that he doesn’t think anyone is the same gender. god-tier take.

//Ideas rotating around the brain again.
#//i kind of want to replay drag.on ball fusions again but i also want to do more post game stuff#//but also i want to try and do stuff with giving the player character fusions actual designs bc it's usually the player's-#//-default outfit with a different color slapped onto and maybe a different hairstyle lol#//i think there's potential to make neat designs from them bc there's some meat on those bones#//and tbh i made the player character in my first playthrough lambda and i want to see how weird things can get with him lmao#//i know the metamo rings are made to stabilize compatibility with both wearers but also lambda's from a different dimension-#//-and i'd like to think that would have some sort of effect on the fusions he's a component of! because he's just close enough for it to-#//-work while also being slightly off due to the differences between dimensions#//stuff like extra limbs extra eyes or the components' eyes being squished together and the eye based horror that comes with that#//transformations not working the right way because even if lambda's strong his presence hinders more than it helps because of it#//a front hiding the fact that both components not only make up a new person their individual halves are still active apart from the fusion#//- often all at the same time and having to deal with the fuckery that comes with that#//is this s.u fusions in a different hat? maybe? anyways sorry for the ramble in the tags i just wanted to get this out there lol#backup log {ooc}

I hate how someone could make a whole essay on why they think whatever celestial body fits whatever winner and people will be like “idk, it still doesn’t fit 100% perfectly like the first three therefore it’s stupid” YEAH CUZ GRIAN “name means sun in *checks notes* Scottish Gaelic” AND PEARL “her name has moon at the end” AND SCOTT “played starborne in origins smp” FIT SOOO WELL AND HAVE SOOO MUCH MORE MEANING… 😭
My point isn’t that the first three don’t fit, I think they do, but the core idea behind them being those things is so loose and meaningless, it’s clear we didn’t overthink it so I think it’s ridiculous that we should overthink all the others. Just find one little reason it fits and then expand on it like with the original 3.
#trafficblr#I mean I understand like ‘the first 3 were easy now it’s not clear’#but genuinely I don’t think that means ppl have to STOP like a lot of others say. tell me who exactly is effected by some fans trying to#match planets to characters? who is being hurt by calling one character the earth instead of the other?#‘we need to retire the planets motif cuz we don’t all think the same’ no we need to enjoy seeing others interpretations more often#this DOES mean that if you want to retire the motif for urself that’s cool. this is about seeing others interpretations after all.#if you think it limits your creativity then go for it. but for others that limitation is what breeds creativity. so rlly do whatever u want.#my POINT is that if I see someone draw art of the winners and use a symbol for say martyn that I don’t recognize#instead of going ‘L not mars’ I get to go ‘oh that’s cool I wonder why they chose this for this character’#anyways about the MAIN post this is why I’m a mars truther. if most of them are based on their freaking names then why not Martyn.#but again like my world isn’t gonna END if you picked something else. oh no this fan art represented him with a different symbol SAID NO ONE#I’m sure there’s probably some annoying fans out there who go ‘erm actually Scar is the shmooper 🤓’ or whatever#but then the problem is the individual getting tilted over what symbols are used. thats like complaining about a color pallet.#brother who cares it’s art. you recognize the character. if you don’t understand why that symbol was used for them u can ask most ppl love#to explain their interpretations and reasons for using a specific symbol.

ok yeah, I would probably be the the orange and black, but still functionally aro due to my version of romance not being typically considered romance and me not having much interest or ability to comply with the normal stuff.
Even in the rare cases where I would want romance it isn't exactly viable due to the cultures surrounding it and the needs of the typical person.
I would imaging it more like metaphorically being with a stray cat made human, or the planet's orbit, than it is the lovey dovey stuff. a strange sort of companionship beyond the platonic but not meeting the qualifications to be really considered romantic. something more like the changing of seasons. lacking the constant need for company but still maintaining the security of knowing they'll be back eventually. Something with plenty of breathing room but not lacking warmth. The ability to have time alone without the isolation or the pressure. The love is there without the hunger that people seem to see as a requirement.
It sucks that others would feel this sort or thing as torment, and don't blame them. I imagine to lots it would be like fasting and not everybody is built for that, the same way that others aren't built for constant affection.
So this sort of thing would likely have to be mutual or else it's not viable. It's a strand of hay in a gigantic mixed assortment needle stack. Not impossible but highly unlikely and a nightmare to find in the current state of things.
hey black stripe for romantic individuals who go against the traditional culture of romance is pretty based actually. i wish we still talked about that

Astro Notes : Short N Sweet <3 Neptune's Revenge
Tumblr media
Neptune 1st House - Popular energy. Very well known for their beautiful, majestic energy. Could have a lot of haters but admirers at the same time. Energetically sensitive to alot of others emotions. Sometimes, it can be a lil confusing holding so much power. Because their energy can be mixed up with someone elses if they don't know how to tell the difference. They usually have a strong sense of self, its just other peoples opinions can get in away of that if they arent careful.
Neptune 2nd House - Could use some help on the financial train. They're organic to the way they use their money. I mean, they could be super horrendous spender, spending each and every dime on any and everything. While still some how always having more in their wallet. Or they could be pretty good at saving and are a little bit of a cheapskate.
Neptune 3rd House - Whimsical voices. Poetic writers. Creative thinkers. Very talented when it comes to the hands as well. Could be excellent drawers & painters. Neptune in the 3rd has an ability to travel to very interesting places that aren't too far at home. They may go on lil adventures here and there. But its always a treat. Its kinda strange how well they can be at finding good eats as well with all the travel they do. Could work abroad or go to college somewhere out of their comfort zone a lil.
Neptune 4th House - Has a lot of secrets when it comes to the inner child. Very free, sweet loving children. Can open a door to different realms like we're in Narnia or something. Angelic creatures who enjoy alone time near their favorite place. If they ever share that special place with you consider yourself lucky. They normally keep the things they cherish hidden for a long time.
Neptune in the 5th House - Artists who seek deep into the art and become it. Very creative & a one of a kind with the way they carry the emotion in what it is they do. Can have you thinking hard on what it is they are trying to convey, they are a master at making complexities more harder to figure out. Just be there in the audience and watch the show. You'll never leave the same again.
Neptune in the 6th House - Fun loving pet owners, they go hard for the planet and the creatures that come from it. Real advocates for change and don't take too kindly to insensitive people. Could need to sharpen their boundaries a little more with people. Also, are incredible writers and should tap into this side a bit more. You might end up surprised with what talents you have that could make you some money, or could be a really cool job.
Neptune in the 7th House - Romance is the thing that just keeps on given to these individuals. May need to put the rose colored glasses down. that man might not be for you, love. Don't forget to put more time into your own needs versus the needs of someone else. Your compassionate energy may run dry if you're not using that waterfall of emotion for yourself. People are drawn to 7th house neptunes alot more than you think. They are capable of seeing thru the veil, you just don't notice.
Neptune in the 8th House - Psychologically understands the reasons on why the universe is the way that it is and why the people in it behave the way that we do. Could be honest about a lot of things, dishonest about what they know. The world doesn't need to know everything, which is why the divine gifted them with certain antidotes. Only they can use this so bring healing to a certain nation (or individual) but not everyone can find this secret the way they can. This is normally given to them by spirit guides, ancestors, or thru drreams.
Neptune in the 9th - Impracticality is almost their birth right. They see things in a way that doesnt make sense at all but to them it means something. What I mean is that these people see the world bigger than what they people tell them. They could have big drams and not understand why they have them, but God put them their for a reason. So you can figure them out. You may want to travel and study abroad, or just move somewhere different and don't know how. Thats where all the magic happens, finding out and taking the risk. The sagittarian way.
Neptune in the 10th - Majestic auras. The highlight of the moment. The star. The siren. The energy healer. Do I keep going? Very special creatures who touched this earth to make their dreams come true, even if they have to figure it out themselves. Empathetic to the people around them and are big on helping out with anything whenever they can. The Queens & Kings of the law of attraction. Can attract what they want if they just believe it in it more.
Neptune in the 11th House - Community leaders. Ancients who know they way to what the true reality is meant to be like. Literally can change the world with the way they move, think, and go around helping others. Sweet and lovely people to be around. Needs healing in their own friend groups. Can be a little out there, but thats why people love them.
Neptune in the 12th House - Practical minds in a world that tells them their crazy. No they arent crazy, they just have multiple psychic gifts. And these gifts have a way in showing them things people aren't usually equipped with handling. They need more time alone and in nature to keep themselves grounded. Other wise, they will go crazy from the world telling them that their crazy... When really they know a little more than what they led on. The imagination is a fun place, but also a place where the most hidden becomes entirely to open. Seers of the daylight & the night.
