Gabriel is Not Actually Dead
Well, his mind/soul isn't anyway.
Okay, this is my crack theory for the Season 5 finale. I avoided the finale until tonight because I read the leaks months ago and, like many, was disappointed in Adrichat's absence and Gabriel's weird semi-redemption death. So as I'm watching it tonight, ready to fully embrace disappointment and determined not to be fooled by any wishful thinking red herrings, I fell into a theory trap. I'm probably wrong, but if it's true, it would make Season 5 more tolerable... for me anyway.
I think Gabriel might be the primary antagonist of Season 6 and this ended arc is a fakeout.
I find it very suspicious that Gabriel NEVER says his wish out loud. At first, it just appears that he's being sentimental. But so far, almost everything Gabriel has done- from inviting Audrey Bourgeois to an event and snubbing her to making Adrien pancakes has been a manipulation. He is constantly putting on an act to draw eyes away from his true motives.
It would have been simple to have Gabriel state he wants to be with Emilie in death and to sacrifice himself for Nathalie. But he stayed mum about it, asked Gimmi to read him, so Ladybug couldn't actually hear. I think that was a choice.
Darker motives also just make sense. You mean Gabriel Agreste who was adamant about bringing his wife back and achieving absolute power using his 14-year-old son and another kid as avatars 5 minutes ago was so changed by Marinette's speech that he decided to just save Nathalie and be done with it? I don't buy it.
I think it's possible that Gabriel traded places with Nooroo. And perhaps changed some rules around the Butterfly miraculous.
This may mean that Nooroo was his sacrifice. I'm not sure how he plans to swing this, but he'll definitely try and manipulate Lila. He has become the evil genie.
I think this, not just because whatever came out of the Butterfly miraculous at the end and scared the hell out of Lila was nothing like Nooroo has ever presented, but because of the visual tell:
It's the same crackly, lightening that appears when Gabriel corrupts one of Nooroo's enchanted butterflies.
I don't think Lila will be operating alone next season.
If this crack theory IS true, I'm not sure why he wouldn't just wish to restore himself, Emilie and Nathalie. Possibly because memories apparently sustain after a wish is made. Ladybug (and whoever else she may have called and told ) might retain her memory of the wish and his identity- as she did in the finale. If he made his original wish, she might tell everyone including Adrien. Regardless of Emilie's return, he and Nathalie would be in big trouble.
So in true manipulator fashion, he asks Marinette never to tell Adrien at all and fakes his death, leaving everyone to think of him as a hero. Meanwhile he plans to use whomever picks up the Butterfly next as a pawn and a scapegoat. He may have even seen Lila getting it.
I guess it could also be true that Gabriel WAS trying to be halfway decent and screwed himself over with his "read my heart" BS. Maybe Gimmi could see subconsciously that he wanted to live and cursed him to be a genie too in his own way.
Regardless, I'd prefer this fakeout. It makes Gabriel's story end a lot less abruptly. It keeps him in character or gives him a sufficient punishment. It almost guarantees that the truth will come out eventually. It gives another chance for Gabriel and Adrien to have a real reveal and conflict (can you imagine Adrien putting on the Butterfly?). It opens the door for all the Agreste backstory we barely got...
So come through, crack theory đ¤

hello ! i just binged the entired podcast in three days and ive fallen in love with it entirely, the ending is beautiful and it made me cry, nova admitting she'll miss them was wonderful
i have a question! are there any official designs for the characters?
(well, im assuming nova is in your header, but are there any more?)
thank you so much !
Hi! I'm so happy you enjoyed it!! Three days??
Oh dear, uh, as for official design... I never really came up with any other than Kora shifts from prosthetic (right leg, trans-tibial), to wheel chair, to power chair, to crutches, throughout the series. But given her personality I think it's safe to say that she's never quite clean enough. Most of her clothes are altered to show her leg (i.e. she got it caught in fabric once and never again)
Let's see, I can give you like the absolute vaguest headcanons?
Hatov is taller than Nova (maybe a full 6 - 8 inches by the end, he's sorta gangly in my head bookworm physique) and for most of the 2 seasons he is wearing the absolute worst clothes scrounged from the pile in Nova's "closet". And Nova who has nothing but work clothes and whatever is either given to her for free (with ads and the like... you know the text that comes on all cute shirts forever rendering them barely wearable? Those. She has just a pile of them. They are almost all crop tops.) or was really cheap.
That's what he was wearing... for almost a year. I think halfway through season 2 she did get him some of his own clothes, but by then he'd gotten attached to a handful of truly hideous shirts.
On Eolara - Hatov wore a lot of dashiki shirts or very expensive robes with lose shirts/work shirts (silk) and sweatpants. He's rich sad boy chic.
Jeanne - short (40s to 50s?), wrinkled (crows feet, frown lines), filled with barely suppressed rage. She's definitely greying, Nova did not help with that.
Lulu - silver(?) eyes, head scarf, cherubic, none of the Eolarans have sclera.
Zahlia - perpetually in heels, never a single hair out of place. Elaborate outfits. Taller than Hatov and deceptively buff.
Temius - the most innocent child to ever innocent... I like to think his glasses give him an owlish appearance. Silver eyes.
Ryza - (30 - 40ish) gold eyes, smile lines, kind open expression, mischievous eyes. I think she'd wear her hair up, if only because she was a soldier before she met Atreli.
Chell - ... ... ...tired. Frazzled but desperately trying to keep up appearances.
Oh shit, you're new. Uh, when it comes to aliens (except Eolarans) they're on https://itmepodcast.com/world-building if you want to know what Ilara, Aleera, and the little one look like. There are also minisodes on the website if you'd like to hear them. You can meet Wilm, baby Hatov, baby Nova, and Lulu too. And Vierai's backstory but that's only in script form. https://itmepodcast.com/minisodes

Introduction &. FAQ
HELLO!
By no means am I new to this site. The loyal followers that are somehow still around waiting on me can vouch for that. Yet I am back once again for another go at what I consider to be a passion project of mine. But how can this be a passion project if you arenât very far? I can hear you say. How is it a passion project if you keep restarting? How is it a passion project if you disappear for months and years on end? Well, thatâs just it, isnât it? I keep coming back! I might not be the most consistent writer, but Supernatural means a lot to me, and a venture such as this has always been in the back of my mind. I want to write this. I want to work on it from start to finish but I am comfortable enough to say that I needed to work on myself first.
For those that are new or in need of a re-introduction, my name is Faith. I used to write this project under the title of âYouâre in Supernatural '' around 2013ish, I believe, and made it about halfway through season one when I decided my writing wasnât up to par. I disappeared then but tried to rebrand a second time during 2020ish when Supernatural ended. As we all know, that was a troubling time, so I didnât make it that far either. Eventually, I made a tertiary post in spring of this year about how I felt a call back to this project once more, and now, I am here to finally put my foot down and make an effort with it. I feel I have grown as a writer and am proud of the general direction I have planned for this character. Third time's the charm, right? I have truly missed writing, this platform, and interacting with all of you!
WHAT IS THIS?
What is this project in mind? The series I am writing, referred to frequently as both Tribus or The Marked Hunter, is a reader insert that creates an original character within a designated fandom and rewrites episodes so the created character is in canon media. Starting from Season One and moving forward, I will try my best to ensure you are part of as much of the action as possible. While your character follows many of the chronological and canon storylines the Winchesters do, you have your own storylines to deep dive into as well, and I cannot wait to show you the ideas you have, as well as ideas you might request! As of the current moment, I do not plan to skip any episodes, and will do my best to tag accordingly to fit potential readerâs needs.
This blog will feature episode inserts, backstories, original series, and little one shots and imagines in-between. The limits are endless, and I cannot even begin to explain how thrilled I am to be back. I hope that you all enjoy the character I have created for this universe and my writing as well!
MAKE NOTE!
Before I introduce you to your character, which will appear in a separate post, there are some things that I wish to make known in regard to my particular take on a reader insert and how updates will go.
Firstly, this rewrite will solely be presented on this tumblr blog, under The Marked Hunter / plaidandantlers as well as on Wattpad, under plaidandantlers. I have run into my stories being stolen in the past, and therefore, if you see the contents of my writing anywhere else without my notice or explicit permission, it is not mine, and Iâd appreciate it if you'd let me know about it.
Secondly, fanfiction and the reader insert community has grown and changed so much since I initially started writing, and a big thing that Iâve personally noticed is word count. Personally, I have never really taken part in that. I will say that I have been known to expand, and over detail as some would say, in my old run. I tried to make each rewritten episode about five parts each if possible, with no telling if I were to add extra parts on the side or in between episodes. The parts themselves would be quite extensive! I canât say that that is going to change this time around.
If this is not your preference, no worries. I know that tumblr isnât the easiest platform to write upon, especially when it comes to reading fics, but regardless, we are so lucky there are so many talented writers here! There are so many to choose from. This is why this story is also available upon Wattpad, as I feel keeping the story altogether and not by separate post may be a bit easier upon. Have you seen my masterlist? Yikes.
Third, I welcome ideas, questions, and suggestions! My ask box will always be open. As for the first episode, I am regaining my footing and have plotted it out thoroughly. I perhaps wonât start taking requests for episodes until Wendigo at the earliest, but by all means, do not let that stop you if you have an idea for the Woman in White! I try to incorporate as much as I can, but sadly, please also note that not everything can be added into the story. I will either place them in separate series or one shot, or highly encourage you to attempt to write your own! Even if you donât share it, these are so fun to make.
Fourth, and most importantly, I am not ashamed to admit that this reader insert originally derived from an original character concept into this wonderful fandom. This character means a lot to me, but in order to share my writing, it was most comfortable for me to convert it into a reader insert. There may be slip ups in regard to posting content. I dislike writing in the first person, and second point of view makes me feel that Iâm tearing out chunks of information. I tend to write from a third point of view and edit it later, so be prepared to see some slip ups in regard to seeing OC names or third person pronouns. If you notice an error, please be kind in pointing it out to me so I can correct it.
This also being said, as the insert is based off of an original character, this particular series is intended for female audiences. In my old run, I had a lot of confusion as to whether it was gender neutral or if I could make a different version to fit a specific gender. While I would love to do that, I barely keep up with my project as is, and that would be a lot of extra work for me. I am absolutely not against it, but given my limited free time, I would like to present it as close to my original vision as possible. I have no intention to disappoint or offend anyone, therefore, if you would like to create your own version, or would like to take my writing and submit it under new pronouns, etc. I would be happy to see your vision come to life!
This reboot also features a face claim for the reader but is not necessary to use at all. I enjoy making edits from time to time and find that quite difficult to do when using an anonymous face. The original characterâs face claim is Jenna Louise Coleman, and I will continue to be using her for various creations outside of the writing. There are even a couple that have already been posted in regard to her face claim being used in various episodes upon my page. Never fear, descriptions of your appearance will be made in multiple segments to make it individualized as much as possible. Examples such as (eye color), (hair color), etc. Therefore, if you see any mistakes in editing, such as described above, please be polite in correcting my errors!
This also being said, I welcome seeing edits and descriptions of your own fancasts as well. Genuinely, I will beg for it. I enjoy seeing how people envision themselves when reading or whatever face claim they cast as themselves when reading.
Lastly, it needs to be said. I claim nothing of the following project as my own except for the creation of (Y/N) Summers and the surrounding plotlines. Any other characters, settings, and plots belong to Supernatural and all other rightful owners! This is only meant for the intent of entertainment, and I shall never claim any of it as my own.
FAQ
Why is this referred to as The Marked Hunter and Tribus?
I guess youâll just have to find out! Thereâs a reason for it, but of course, I donât wish to disclose all my secrets right away. I wish to present this like a book as much as possible, and therefore some things need to be revealed in their own time.
Why is the first season titled âEnigmaâ?
This part I can easily share. An enigma is a person or thing that is mysterious, puzzling, or difficult to understand. I feel this particular word fits the reader and their plot for this season swimmingly. The reader is known for being after similar things the brothers are, but of course, is an individualized person, and will find things about themself along the way they have yet to grasp.
Will your series have the reader end up with Sam or Dean? Will they end up with (So and So)?
Only time will tell! I understand there are many Sam-Girls and Dean-Girls, trust me, but I want to keep a few surprises in store for all of you. You may end up with one, both, or even neither. Nothing is set in stone just yet. I will state that while there may be little implications here and there for your reading pleasure, a majority of the first season will feature no romance. Given this is the beginning of the show and my story, there is so much that can and needs to be introduced to use canonically as well as with your character, and Iâd rather focus on the build up of friendships and plots before anything gets too deep and heavy.
Will you have a word count?
Briefly stated above, I do not have a word count and that is a personal preference. I often feel too pressured to hit a certain amount of words, or in different settings, feel I have written too much or too little. I want this to be a fun project, and I wish to present my writing and my ideas to the best of my abilities, regardless of how long or short a full rounded idea may come to be.
My initial plan is to make each episode about five parts each. I feel this breaks up the episodes nicely, and seeing as the length of each part is unknown, even more so. Weâll just have to wait and see! Please also note that I will also be making extra parts, backstories, original series, and imagines on the side. While having a basic outline, anything can happen. Little details donât tend to speak to me until the time comes. Letâs see where this goes.
I have an idea for this episode, may I submit it? I have a headcanon for the readerâs backstory, may I share it? I have an edit Iâd like to share with you, would you like to see?
Yes, yes, yes! Despite my basic outline and twists and turns along the way, the main concept is that this is made for you, and Iâd love to see how people interpret my writing and their character. I value ideas, feedback, and anything else you wish to share with me. My ask box is always open. I have always loved interacting with my readers and answering their questions, itâs a majority of the reason why I keep coming back. Sadly, I may not be able to incorporate every idea I receive, but I most certainly will try my best!
Do you write anywhere else?
I only write on this tumblr blog and on Wattpad, under plaidandantlers. If you feel this story has been copied in any way without my knowledge of explicit permission, please let me know so I can handle it.
When will you start?
My goal is sometime within October. I am currently working on an outline of the first season as well as a rough draft of the first couple episodes being written out. September is a busy month for me, as well as the first few weeks of October, but I want to get this going as soon as possible. I appreciate and value your time and patience.
Will you have consistent updates? When will you post?
Undetermined at this time. I used to post every day and queue up some parts and pieces, but I felt my writing lacked when I tried to hold myself to a daily deadline. I am not going to hold myself to a deadline this time, but just hope and work hard on progressing in general. Updates may be every day, every couple days, every week, etc. but I am bound and determined to keep up with this project this time around.
I have a question not listed here!
I plan to make a FAQ page eventually, and as the series is ongoing, will obviously update it as necessary. Please submit any questions you ask and refer to the page often.

My Opinions on Shadow and Bone Season 2
As an original reader of Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows, I wanted to share my opinion on the new season since it's been pretty contentious. Check under the cut since it's probably going to be pretty long and there will be spoilers
I love the title cards for each episode
In the same vein, the map method of moving from place to place is great
Mal is much more likable in the show than in the book. In particular, he's much more supportive of Alina
I have to think of Alina as a different person than from the books. In the books, she hated her power and the pressure that was put upon her, but in the show she thinks of it as her calling
As such, the ending makes sense for this version of Alina, but it does have a lot of implications going forward
Personally, I like the RaR ending where Alina loses her power because I feel that is a happy ending for book!Alina. However, I think it was clever to change the price to Mal, but in a different way
Everyone was shitting on Nikolai's casting, but not me. From day one, I said he'd be able to pull it off, and he did. Amazing casting choice!
Kirigan/The Darkling is just so...annoying? This may be biased because of my intense hatred for Darklina, but it seems like the show is going out of its way to make him sympathetic because he's popular, and it just irks me at every turn. He isn't even an intriguing villain at this point
Genya and David were lovely, but David dying out of nowhere? Why? I haven't read KoS, but in SaB and SoC he is alive and well. His death is jarring, unwelcome, and doesn't even do anything narratively or character-wise
Who is this random Tidemaker bitch who just...appeared? She isn't in the books, and every scene with her was boring as hell. Yes, even that major combat scene in the finale with the two others, which dragged out for way too long
Zoya was a queen, no complaints
But what the fuck was that sword plotline? They didn't even end up needing the sword?
Tolya and Tamar were amazing character-wise, great sibling energy
Tamar just one chance please
Now for the Crows...oh, the Crows
Freddy Carter absolutely destroyed it as Kaz, he was superb
Unfortunately, a lot of his backstory feels rushed, and while I loved the scene with Pekka, it didn't have nearly enough buildup considering it originally occurred in the latter half of CK
Inej was also great, but her and Kaz's relationship was also rushed. Almost all of the major scenes (most of which happen in CK!) between them have occurred, which leaves...what? for any potential spinoff
Inej left? WHY. That is the CULMINATION of her character arc, not halfway through! I think they're trying to play it safe in case they get cancelled, but I'd much rather have a loose thread never tied up than an unsatisfying end
Also the 'I will have you without armor or not at all' is set up as if Inej has an issue with the physical contact. She would never do that, considering she has similar issues herself. The original quote is because Kaz has the emotional intelligence of a stack of kruge
While I found Jesper and Wylan adorable, they were rushed as well. It felt very insta-lovey, especially considering they slept together before? How? Wylan is a recent addition to the Barrel when he meets the Crows
That piano scene made me cringe I'm sorry
Matthias' arc seems pretty on-point, and his conflict is pretty well-portrayed for something mostly psychological
Nina was wonderful, simply a delight
I do wish she hadn't said Matthias was her 'true love', they wouldn't really be at that point
Also, at the end, I wish Matthias hadn't seen Nina. It would definitely set up their whole conflict much better
A lot of CK development happened in this show, which a) ruins the whole slow-build that a lot of people loved about SoC and b) means either the potential spin-off will be lacking in emotional depth or they'll be bringing in other conflict (which I don't even want to think about)
That's pretty much all I have to say. I liked some parts, but I really don't like a lot of the changes. A lot of people have said that we knew it was going to be changed, to think of it like fanfiction, but there's a limit to how much can be changed before it is no longer an adaptation. With the amount of fundamental character things that are being changed, I am finding it harder and harder to enjoy this show. I have no issue with plot differences, but Netflix is speeding through these heavy-hitting, developmental scenes that completely change the context and, as such, change the characters. I worry for the SoC spin-off, if we do get it.

To be honest, I never post on Tumblr, but I just wanted to talk a little bit about this Helluva Boss show.
I recently watched all the episodes and read a lot of the episodesâ comments, and holy crap, the people in the comments are either blind, refuse to be up-front, or care for lousy shows. I read comments stating bullshit like âI love this new Striker villainâ or âBlitzoâs backstory keeps getting more interesting. Just like this showâ or âIâm so glad Stolas stood up to his wife. Heâs the best character.â After reading a bunch of these flat admirations with no real substance, I'm curious if me and the comment section just watched the same video. To me, the show felt very lacking and unprofessional. I couldn't wrap my head around where all of this praise was exactly coming from.Â
Overall, I do not understand what this show is trying to truly be. The pilot made it seem like a workplace comedy, yet the latest season two episode had the impression of a childish drama. It appears that Vivziepop isnât aware that there is a way you can make characters interesting or empathetic, without transforming (given the appearance of the pilot) a sitcom into a fanfiction film and adding misinterpreted character trauma and abuse. Or rather she just doesn't have the creativity or skill to undertake another ârealisticâ way for the audience to relate to her characters.Â
Another example of this victimizing route of pity, is in Hazbin Hotelâs âAddictâ music video. In the video, Vivziepop anticipates the viewers to feel curious about Angel Dust's past and feel empathy for him. According to the music video, Angel gets sexually raped by his boss during his occupation as a stripper, and he suffered some mental breakdown of sorts. This certain âtrauma toolâ of earning character compassion that Vivziepop uses is extremely nonsensical, ineffective, and amateurish. I firmly didnât give a shit about one thing that was happening in the music video, considering it felt so juvenile. In fact, I recall turning my phone off halfway through.Â
In general, the mature concepts of Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel are flung around without any real thought behind them, other than to make it appear as an adult animated show and intend for character depth. Sorry, but swearing, sex, abuse, substance abuse, and gore, doesnât automatically makes a supposed adult show HEARTILY for adults. You want to appeal to adults? Well then, I would start by trying not to partially exploit and mishandle mature concepts. This is not all my own nitpick, but the one I recognize others may have when watching. I can definitely see how certain people may get offended by the show in the regard of maltreatment to said concepts. Not everyone, just particular fully-fledged people.
Regardless, I think Vivziepop taking the turn she did in the latest Helluva Boss episode is bad for the showâs continuation. I doubt she had deeply thought ahead about where to take this show before introducing attempted story complexity with season twoâs episode. If that is the case, Helluva Boss will become farther wonkier than it is thus far. Iâm no genius, but Iâm sure one would need to be absolutely positive where you want to take your story, characters, and plot during elaborate story fabrication. If not, then your entire narrative will get hopelessly lost and lose sense. Knowing Vivâs writing, I donât think she has the ability to brainstorm both previously and profoundly, and logically connect the dots within the episodes.
In my opinion, I think Helluva Boss should be manifested as an erratic, doltish, (yet charismatic) comedy sitcom. The show takes place in literal hell. If I was in charge, I would make the world enticing by its vast oddity, and ludicrous hellfire anguish. When people think of hell, they think of torture. Where even is the hellish part of Vivziepopâs version of hell?
Of course, Vivziepop can take the show wherever she desires, but thatâs how I think it would work best and be the most interesting.Â
Similar to what I aforementioned, my belief is that Vivziepop is heading into things that she does not fully understand how to handle with her poor script writing. As the show progresses, more people may realize that she isnât capable of running a thorough tv show. I mean, the first three episodes were convoluted as fuck so early. Therefore, it isnât a big surprise that she was a pretty incompetent showrunner far before the latest episode. What Iâm trying to say, is that she was always incompetent. It will probably just become more evident over time to some of the people who arenât currently grasping it.Â
Donât get me wrong, there are things in Helluva Boss that are done right, and hell, the idea had great potential. However, the things that the show is rather successful in doing, is overshadowed solely by the writing and inconsistency. No offense to Viv, but I am 16, and I believe I could write just as good of a script (if not better) for at least half of the episodes that are out.Â
Maybe some people genuinely are interested in the show, despite if they see the frailties, and that is fine. Although, the amount of mollycoddling this show (that is clearly far from perfect) gets is absurd. It is not an opinion that this show is not very well done, it is a fact. The fans need to stop overindulging Helluva Boss and start giving it some honest pros and cons, otherwise Viv will not be able to recognize and fix what it is thatâs broken. Thatâs the only way this show may get better; straightforward criticism. If the fans that see the faults keep on spoon feeding their umpteen kindnesses on a show that doesnât require it in its ongoing state, itâs incredibly plausible Helluva Boss will grow a poor reputation, even beyond its fanbase.Â

Thoughts on Miraculous Shanghai: The Legend of Lady Dragon
Warning: Spoilers! Other than that, have fun!
Also, if you want to watch the full English Dub, click here!
I love how we saw Fei's backstory as to how she became guardian of the Prodigious and how it was actually stolen because there are people who want money from her adoptive father's studio. It was also sad to see that the values her father implemented into her fade due to the circumstances they found themselves in. I speak for all of us to say that this girl needs a hug.
The intro as always is beautiful! Since it was not the first thing we saw, I was confused when looking through the episodes on YT.
I always enjoy Marinette's monologues, and this one was over how she looked forward to her holiday (it was like a vacation type thing). And how she looked forward to spend time with Adrien since his father was going to let him out. It was all perfect...
...until she went to deliver Uncle Wang's package and found out Adrien left for Shanghai at the last minute. But all is good though because she could go to Shanghai, deliver the gift personally, and see Adrien.
It hurts me to see that the writers made Marinette's purpose to go to Shanghai is to see Adrien when she can do that in Paris! It frustrates me that her character development goes back to square one, even as the protagonist of the show. People might point out this was before season 3, but I have a few points that say otherwise or that the writers are mixing things up. But first, the plot points and thoughts of everything else.
Also, I get that Marinette is 14/15/16 at the time of this episode, but how likely is it to send your child on their own halfway across the world??? On SHORT NOTICE??? I swear Sabine and Tom are too chill with this, but then again, there would be no story.
Also, I love how Ladybug and Chat Noir took the opportunity of their patrols without akumas to bond more. The Ladynoir in this episode I stan!
Gabriel you piece of trash! If you did not plan to spend time with your son, why take him to Shanghai when he was hoping to spend time with you?! And do not say "for business purposes" because even though Adrien is a face in the brand, at least don't give him false hope and that bs!
Nooro, thank you for trying to talk Gabriel out of it, but he is literally a wall (talking to Gabriel=talking to a wall)
I will say, the waiting for 15 years thing is very concerning.
Uncle Wang has been looking forward to see Marinette in person in Shanghai to learn more about her roots. He is ecstatic and its just heartwarming and heartbreaking when you think that part of Marinette's stay will be related to Adrien.
At least we see one thing that makes Marinette's stay not all about Adrien though: she is genuinely interested in her origins! Like when she asks about her family's traditional songs and about her mom, even learning her real name!
Speaking of which, Sabine's name is Xia Ping and only called herself Sabine when she started living in France. Also, I love her photo!
Bastille the bird that was around since forever is an icon!
Also, I can't believe Uncle Wang has not taken a break since Sabine moved to France, like what the hell??? Give this guy a break for goodness sake.
Thank you Gabriel for having one brain cell and allowing your son to leave the hotel! We still hate you for everything else though.
Its cool that Kwamis speak all of the languages. It is also the most logical thing because their wielder could be from anywhere. My question is are they taught the languages, does it form when a concept forms in the universe and they start existing, or like everything else is it magic?
Gorilla is iconic for two reasons: he is still a self care king, and he was willing to give Adrien some space to get action figures.
And now as I wrote that, this is where I am getting confused and start to believe this is post season 3: 1) Gorilla seems less anxious about being in a new place (unlike NY where he stayed in the hotel room the entire time), and 2) His obsession for action figures was shown in Party Crasher (season 3), which makes me wonder if the explanation is during season 3 or this episode hints at season 3. For the first point, it could be because Gabriel was not in NY to his knowledge.
Fei appears again and explains how she views the world and how she also uses that to help and take advantage of others.
She almost steals Adrien's phone and miraculous until Gorilla steps in. It hurts me because she is a good person but had to resort to stealing for a reason that we will explore soon.
Plagg, we always say your stomach causes trouble, but this time, you brought Adrien to Marinette's uncle...
...but also that ironically separated them as Marinette found them just as they climbed into the taxi.
This is also where Fei (wearing a disguise) crosses paths with Marinette and steals her purse. Then she went for the kwagatama and miraculous.
Things get worse for Fei as these boys that took a photo with Adrien earlier started chasing her. Then Marinette started going after them.
That is when she realized she was robbed and understandably, she was more horrified of losing her Miraculous.
Adrien shows up to Uncle Wang's home/restaurant. So many iconic moments happen.
1) Bastille says something about love between Marinette and Adrien. And Adrien responds with the line that makes us want to jump into the TV and talk some sense into him.
2) You say that "she's JuST a fRIenD" yet you stay over with her mom's uncle so you can surprise her lol. Adrien, you kill me and every other Adrienette fan with this contradicting statements.
Speaking of Marinette, she gets lost and has trouble communicating with others because she does not speak Chinese. And at some point says that she regrets not taking lessons?! Uh, what does this imply, that she refused lessons or that she did not have the opportunity for lessons??????? I NEED ANSWERS!
Can we say once again how talented and artistic Marinette is? Bad time? Moving on!
Uncle Wang is unaware of Marinette's tardiness, and Adrien just jokes about it. Considering that she is technically missing (reality is that she's lost), I don't think its time to joke about it.
The lady that gave Marinette some earrings that look like the Miraculous is so nice and bless her soul
The person from the pawn shop is the bad guy that we see at the very end of the NY special! And he knows about what happened to Fei's father! I am grateful that he sees no value in Marinette's stuff so he won't sell it for a lot, but I hate how he's greedy for money and was willing to exploit Fei's hunger for answers and Marinette needing her miraculous for personal gains.
Meanwhile, the boys from the photo with Adrien that chased Fei were trying to get Marinette's attention (they found her kwagatama when Fei dropped it running away and fighting them), but she thought they were gonna attack her. And then she bumps into Fei, who helps her escape.
Marinette finds comfort in Fei for being willing to "help" her (remember that she was gonna bring her to the pawn shop). She also finds Fei as a helpful, kind person who is brave: something that Fei does not see in herself, but does not have the heart to tell Marinette the truth.
Meanwhile, Chat has transformed to find Marinette and its the most endearing thing I've seen! Adrien, you blind oblivious fool! You care about her more than you think!
They arrive in the pawn shop, Tikki escaped the claw machine, and Marinette finds the earrings...for 100000 Yuan.
Fei, understanding what its like to have something entrusted to you be stolen, gets in a spat with the pawn shop owner in Chinese, accusing the owner for greed and accusing Fei for theft, while Marinette just stands her.
Also, when did Marinette become naive???????? I get that she's in another country and they are speaking in a different language that she does not understand, but based on the tone of their voices and shouting, I feel like she should have sensed something was off.
Fei swaps the earrings the lady gave Marinette and took the miraculous back. To the lady, this is why your soul is blessed. So bless your soul!!!
Apparently, Marinette realized what happened and said that Fei stole her earrings and feels bad for the man. Girl, you do not have to feel guilty for the man! He was about to destroy them before he thought about sentimental value! Also, he did not pay Fei anything for them! (Felt that this should be brought up because even though Fei was wrong in stealing her stuff, she was also robbed from potential cash and answers, therefore the man was owed nothing.)
The boys from Adrien's photo are actually vigilantes of Shanghai (and will be referred as such from now on), wanting to bring Fei to justice for stealing, which catches Marinette's attention, but not enough to ask any questions.
Also Marinette is not wanted as a criminal. She is missing as Uncle Wang called the police.
Fei still lives in the school, which has been in ruins. Despite not having much, she still offers Marinette a cup of what I believe is water (or tea?). See peoples, Fei is a good person at heart (if y'all aren't aware of it by now)
Gabriel saw and recognized Marinette. This is horrifying and if it is prior to season 3, we see why he tries so hard to target her. Or reasons why he targets her in season 4 along with everything else we know from "Truth".
Fei should have been given the chance to explain why she stole Marinette's things, but the pawn shop owner was like "you know, I might as well expose Fei myself"...
...and it really broke Marinette, who heavily trusted her. But she can't dwell on it for long...
...because AKUMA COMES FOR THE PAWN SHOP OWNER! AND HIS FAN SHOOTS KNIVES! AND HAS GREEDY MOTIVES! AND HELPED HAWKMOTH GET INTI THE CAVE WITH THE PRODIGIOUS!!!
Also, Nathalie was involved in obtaining the bracelet years ago. Again, the 15 years thing is concerning.
Marinette flees to transform, but not without telling Fei how she broke her trust and how she feels that Feinwas not genuinely helping her. It hurt me so much!
Ladybug transforms, hears Chat's voice-mail (to which she is swooned by the fact her kitty cares for her civilian self), and calls him. The best Ladynoir scene so far!
So the prodigious is like a jewel with powers, there is only one prodigious from what we see, and that one prodigious has multiple renlings that only the wielder can see. Oh, and the bracelet is like a key. Cool.
I don't like how Fei's Lady Dragon outfit looks whitewashed, but at least her hair is red instead of blonde (which still does not make this okay)
Epic Showdown between the akuma, Hawkmoth, Ladybug, and Lady Dragon. Hawkmoth corners Ladybug and Lady Dragon gets caught in some rocks.. All hope seemed lost...
...until Chat shows up and frees the akuma with the help of a basketball.
We learn something new folks: the same butterfly can create a different akuma. This is very frightening because...
The statue that determines who is worthy of the prodigious gets akumatized! The horror!
Also, if the statue says Fei cannot become the dragon because her intention to seek vengeance for her father is not noble and worthy, then what makes Hawkmoth think he will be successful in becoming the dragon??? Because it seems that his intentions are not pure or noble. Just saying.
Hawkmoth notices the akumatized statue heading to the city and all of a sudden remembers about Adrien. Confronting the statue, he gets turned into ashes(?).
CHAT, HAWKMOTH IN ASHES WOULD HAVE BEEN FOR THE BETTER IF THE STATUE DID NOT DESTROY SHANGHAI AND YOU WOULD NOT THINK AS SUCH IF YOU KNEW HE WAS YOUR FATHER! But I am not mad at you, just wanted to point out your irony.
ML WRITERS, WHY DO YOU KEEP KILLING OFF CHAT????? LADYBUG DOES NOT NEED ANY MORE TRAUMA AND THAT WAS COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY!!!! I AM SCREAMING INSIDE!!!!!
Fei is understandably upset and blames herself for what happen. I want to hug her so badly.
Marinette reassures Fei and forgives her, even though Fei felt that she could not be forgiven.
The structure they were standing on collapses and it was Fei as the Dragon who saved her, not Chat. Honestly, I love how it turned out as it strengthens their friendship, but I still prefer a Marichat alternative. WHERE IS THE MARICHAT PEOPLES???
Final showdown!
Poor statue guard was upset about the damage they caused as an akuma, but Miraculous Ladybiug fixes everything.
Fei learned an important lesson: let justice take its course, not enact revenge. But it was quite funny to have the pawn shop owner be flown away to court in a literal sense.
The bracelet has a renling-like creature, who is just so adorable, especially since they missed Fei and was waiting for the day they would be reunited. Aww!
Ladynoir version of the Moon scene from NYC! Except no dancing, just them challenging each other over who will get to Paris first if they traveled in opposite directions. No one shall ever know we were in Shanghai as civilians lol (Reminds me of my best friend when eating grapes during choral rehearsals)
Marinette, Adrien, Fei, and Uncle Wang enjoying a birthday (?) dinner was wholesome.
I love how Uncle Wang calls them boyfriend and girlfriend because of how they act around each other, yet Marinette and Adrien both deny it. Bruh, these children need to open their fricking eyes! I really wanted to jump through my phone screen!
The Shanghai Vigilantes came to return Marinette's kwagatama necklace. They are so precious even though we thought they were enemies in the trailer.
Even though they were at odds at first, love how the Vigilantes blushed when Fei played the accordion and she's just like "whatever". I stan an asexual queen.
Do I even want to know what Marinette accidentally said when she mispronounced "sister" in Chinese? Based on what Fei said, probably not.
Uh...NOW I WANT TO SEE MORE OF ADRIEN TEACHING MARINETTE CHINESE! While I do take some issue of Adrien (a white French boy) teaching Marinette her culture like most of us had issue with in "Kung Food", I also want to see them interact outside of school and hopefully bond. ML writers need to keep their word otherwise Adrienette stans will riot!
Love how the final scene turned out! Its just *chef's kisses*
Also, the hell with the business trip?? It was mentioned once again IN THE ENDCARD! It might not be as interesting, but I want to think that there was more truth to it.
Also, wifi troubles kept interrupting the show at crucial moments, but okay.
Overall, I live for the Shanghai episode! The animation is just as incredible as the NY special (which I also live for) and I love how this episode has a great focus on Fei and the prodigious. I mean, before the intro, she tells her story. And she has her monologues alongside Marinette's. In many ways, it's refreshing. Also, Ladynoir and Adrienette stans will be satiated with the scenes associated with each ship. Also, I love Fei's character development! And the final scene is wholesome!
I won't lie though: there are a few issues regarding whitewashing Fei's transformation and such. It is important to see these things and as a good friend of mine always says: you can enjoy something while also being critical of it. And that is very important no matter how devotive to something you actually are.
Anyways, we are being well fed with all the Miraculous content and I will see you all very soon! Also, get some sleep peoples! I know some of you aren't sleeping!

Please allow me to tell you about one of my favourite cartoons through this informal essay I did for school a couple of months back.Â
Gravity Falls and How it Did The Unimaginable
**SPOILERS... KINDA**
The 2010s saw the creation of some of the most iconic animated tv shows ever made, the likes of Adventure Time (2010), Steven Universe (2013), Over the Garden Wall (2014) and The Legend of Korra (2012). To explain why this eraâs shows are so admirable is honestly rather difficult. Yet, there are many factors that can be taken into consideration when looking for an answer.
The past decade was very successful in perfecting their craft and utilizing the animated format to their favour, creating some of the wackiest and fascinating cartoons ever made. With the advancements made in both 2D and 3D animation for film, this bled into the world of TV as well.
To mention that 2010s cartoons have stunning visuals would be an understatement. Everything about the animation was beautiful; the strong colour palettes, the clean and imaginative character designs, the colourful and immersive backgrounds and especially the mesmerizing worlds that can be found within episodes that are half an hour.
This eraâs cartoons also led to a massive shift in storytelling, writing longer-running stories that spread out across seasons while also swapping out episodic adventures for serialization. This heavily aided in the popularization of these shows, due to the rise of internet fandoms and dropping the taboo that cartoons were only for kids. Many shows acknowledged their older viewers by leaving clues and even puzzles to be solved by the theorists who have a large appearance on social media platforms like Reddit, Twitter and Tumblr. As the shows progressed, their fandoms created many theories for what they believed might happen within their favourite series. The top three shows from this era all utilized these changes, being at the forefront of the shift and helping guide the creative vision of 2010s cartoons.
Often regarded as many peopleâs favourite cartoon, Gravity Falls presented one of the best mysteries of the decade with two seasons and only 40 episodes. Inspired by Twin Peaks and The X-Files, itâs considered as the kidsâ version of these two iconic shows as this cartoon acts as many peopleâs first introduction to horror through bright colours and fun characters.
This series follows the adventures of Dipper and Mabel Pines, twins, who are sent to spend their summer with their great-uncle or Grunkle Stan in Gravity Falls, Oregon. This town is full of oddities like supernatural creatures, insane and eccentric inhabitants, and many puzzles. The Pines twins must adjust to the weirdness while uncovering the mysteries and protecting their new town.
While living in Gravity Falls, the twins are forced to work in the Mystery Shack, a tourist trap created by their Grunkle Stan that overcharges unlucky tourists, teaching about fake monsters despite there being real creatures all over town. On his first day in Oregon, Dipper accidentally came across a mysterious journal written by an unknown author that explains all the oddities to be found in this strange town. This book acts like an encyclopedic of the Weird for Dipper, an inquisitive 12-year-old kid who seeks answers.
Dipper is an extremely intelligent kid, his brain being far more developed than his body. Heâs rather awkward and self-conscious as he often stumbles over his words or gets embarrassed trying to talk to girls. Despite this, the boy is an adventurer at heart who just wants to grow up and skip his upcoming teenage years.
While Mabel is quite the opposite in many ways, she is loud and has an in-your-face personality. Mabel is bouncy and fun, she is so excited to start high school. She is easily excitable and for the larger part of the series, she is in her boy-crazy phase. Mabel is a girly-girl as she likes all things; glitter, unicorns, rainbows, partying and crafting. Yet, she doesnât often compare well with many of the other girls in town, they see her as weird and âtoo muchâ.
(In all fairness through, it is not too kind to either of the characters as their personalities are more complex than just awkward nerd and artsy girl-girly.)
Dipper and Mabelâs personalities are very different but somehow, theyâalong with their Gravity Falls familyâmanage to solve mysteries and save the town, multiple times.
Gravity Falls is an honestly genius series that completely changed the way cartoons were made. Originally when writing a series, youâd create a base of your story; characters, the universe and a basic plot. Yet, when creator, Alex Hirsch (who was in his early/mid-20)s and his small team first began constructing their show, they planned out everything they could possibly think of for the first season. Additionally, outlining some answers for their biggest mysteries that would be answered at the end of the series.
Despite being rated TV-Y7, this series really pushed the boundaries of kidsâ television. From the teeth being ripped out of a deerâs mouth by a demon, rearranging the functions of every hole on a manâs face to an aggressive pop-rock sock puppet show that ended in a dramatic slow-motion scene of the puppets burning. Gravity Falls wasnât afraid to get a little weird or creepy. Or create some genuine nightmare fuel.Â
From the beginning, Gravity Falls had built a mystery into its series, hiding secrets and clues all throughout the show. Most notably were the backwards-recorded message and cryptograms, using roughly nine different kinds, even creating two of their own.
The inclusion of cyphers and mysteries for fans to solve is possibly the reason why this series was so successful. As one of the first shows to do something like this, Gravity Falls used social media and internet fandoms to its advantage.
As mentioned earlier, cartoon fans have quite a presence on social media platforms like Twitter and Tumblr. They create theories and share fun ideas about their favourite shows. Viewers of Adventure Time, Gravity Falls and Steven Universe were all included in their share of theory fun.
Sometimes, fan theories end up being correct but when youâre Gravity Falls creator, Alex Hirsch, you donât just watch from the sidelines as your viewers figure out the biggest mystery of your show. No, you create a hoax to get your viewers off your trail and that is what he did. Around 2013, only halfway through the first season of the show, viewers had started to follow the clues, theorizing who was the author is Dipperâs mysterious journal.
Unfortunately for the Gravity Falls production crew, the viewers were rightâ for the sake of readers who have never seen the show, I will not mention who the author was as it would be the biggest spoiler.
In 2013, a supposed leaked image of a tv showing a younger version of the showâs crazy old man character, Old Man McGucket, writing in the infamous journal was uploaded anonymously (by Alex Hirsch) to 4Chan.
Despite the image only being on up for a few hours, it spread like wildfire. Much to the teamâs success, theorists stopped searching for the answer to âwho is the authorâ and just accepted the image of McGucket as the truth.
To further push the fake-out, three words were posted to Alexâs Twitter, âfuming right now.â
The tweet was deleted a few minutes later and fans genuinely believed that someone from the Gravity Falls team had leaked the most important part of the story.
While doing research, I came across a Reddit post from April 10th, 2013, the day after âleak,â Alexâs tweet was uploaded. In this post, user, TheoDW uploaded an image of Alexâs tweet with the caption, âIt seems that Hirsch got mad at last nightâs leak. He already deleted this tweet.â
Seeing the reactions of these Redditors in 2013 is kind of weird and crazy to look at. âHe has every right to be upset. Someone internally released a plot revealing screen shot of series breaking spoiler information,â a deleted Reddit account commented.
âThis is Alex Hirschâs biggest success by far, he spent a huge amount of time carefully planning out the series, and then in a moment someone releases a major spoiler. It would make anyone upset,â the user, Time_Loop commented.
âSeriously, this is a nightmare for a storyteller, and shows a breach of trust. I feel so bad for himâhonestly, I hope whoever did the leak gets caught and appropriate action is taken. You donât fâk with someoneâs story like this. Itâs unprofessional.â the user, lonelybeloved angrily commented.
In 2014, this âleakâ was finally disproven when viewers were given an episode on McGucketâs backstory and an amazing tweet from Alex Hirsch.Â
Alex had post an image of himself playfully pointing at a monitor with the supposed leaked picture with the caption, â1) Make hoax  2) Upload to 4Chan  3) Post angry tweet about "leak" 4) Delete tweet 5) Let internet do restâ
It is so interesting to look at these comments know that all of this was orchestrated by Alex.
I wish I had been old enough at the time to follow theories and fandom stuff like I do now with current cartoons but really looking at this from an outside perspective, this was insane!
The real author wasnât revealed until 2015 and when viewers first got the answer to this biggest show on their screens, they must have freaked out!
Following the finale in 2016, a single frame of a stone version of Bill Cipher, the showâs villain, flashed in after the credits had finished.
Alex Hirsch and his team actually created a real-life statue of their villain for their viewers to find and on July 20th, 2016, the Cipher Hunt began.
By following clues, the Hunters found themselves all over the world; Russia, Japan and then travelling throughout the United States for the final 12 clues. When the hunt took them to Los Angeles, actor, Jason Ritter (voice of Dipper Pines, also a massive fan of the series) and Alex Hirschâs twin sister, Ariel Hirsch (the inspiration for Mabel) joined in the fun helping the search.
Finally, the hunt ended on August 2nd when someone tweeted out an image of the found statue in Oregon, the same state in which the fictional town of Gravity Falls exists. The Cipher Hunt had ended but finding the statue wasnât Alexâs goal for the scavenger hunt, it was about the journey and bringing together the viewers, more than having them actually find the statue.
Creating its own hoax, an international scavenger hunt and quite a bit of nightmare fuel, Gravity Falls was a show truly unlike any other.
The 2010s saw some of the strongest cartoons ever made, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls and Steven Universe acting as the leaders for multiple different changes in the medium; storytelling, worldbuilding, interaction with viewers, utilizing social media, representation and further pushing music into the cartoon world. From what was created this past decade and what has already been released in 2020, Iâm so excited to see what comes next.
I have another one of these which is on Steven Universeâs representation and music if you would like to see that too!!Â

STUFF I DIDNT LIKE ABOUT MCD SEASON 1:
Hey im new here this is my first post pls be nice
Also itâs super lengthy your welcome
⢠Was an alright season...if you ignore the fifty different plot points that were dropped.
⢠How does Emmalyn not recognize Aph is Irene they look so similar theyâre practically identical. isnt she a scholar of Irene? ⢠For that matter why doesnât Zane recognize her? Heâs a high priest of Irene he should know what she looks like. ⢠im pretty sure at some point Aph got a statue of Irene and I get it there were no hd figures at the time but she would have looked exactly like Aphmau. And sheâs so chill about it. Like HELLO does it not bother you or
⢠speaking of that statue, didnât Aphmau have to put a wyvern soul or something like that? Havenât watched in a while. Wasnât Irene supposed to be this generous kind figure? Why are we using a soul just for her statue.
⢠I get that the minor characters are called that for a reason, but donât just make them disappear from the face of the earth. They exist too. Shoutout to Vylad, cadenza, the chicken shaman and all the others who were neglected.
⢠Zane was such a generic villain. I liked his concept but felt that he was lacking in originality. any villain could do what he did. I feel like there should have been a backstory or some greater motive that only Zane would have to make it more personal. He was supposed to be a complex character but he was oversimplified to the point where his character became mundane. Itâs not so black and white.
⢠Gene should have been introduced earlier and should have been used more. He was earlier in rebirth but Iâm going by the original here.
⢠WHY IS ZANE JUST STANDING THERE WHEN HE IS GOING TO THE IRENE DIMENSION. If he had run away or something or used Emmalyn and Kenmur as hostages (I think they were there too?) then he couldâve gotten away and gotten the relic and come back in like a few months cuz of the whole one minute in the Irene Dimension is a year in the real world thing. Im pretty sure thereâs a way he couldâve gotten the relic and retained his position. Those amulets work in a set radius, we know this because only the people around Zane got teleported to the Irene Dimension when he used it. Zaneâs smart but the script kills me here.
⢠How do those amulets even bring people to the Irene Dimension? Pretty sure one is the one Leona was born from and the other was the one used on Alexis? Both of those seem like dark magic to me how does it work
⢠Not directly related to the episodes but STOP SHIPPING ZANKI. If youâre going by canon itâs not ok Zane is a genocidal maniac and a psycopath and Kiki didnât ask for it. If itâs an AU itâs allowed as long as the relationship is healthy
⢠I donât like that the most crucial parts of s1 werenât even shown like Garroth getting manipulated by Lillian or meeting Zane in OâKhasis
â˘What was that whole thing with the heart of darkness when Zane was in Phoenix Drop? There were skeletons too and idk what was going on there but I havenât gotten an explanation for that to this day. Why was it dropped?
⢠Why was Zane only introduced halfway through the whole season. Heâs the main antagonist, introduce him earlier (I get that the rebirth was trying to fix this tho) ⢠Wouldve loved to see more of the political systems of Oâkhasis it wouldâve made so much more sense. I feel like Zane was fighting multiple battles here with Aph in Phoenix Drop and with his dad in OâKhasis especially considering that fact that Garte is said to be lazy and stubborn and a bad ruler overall. It should have been elaborated on more. what was the full struggle here
⢠Garroth doesnât even bother changing his name or appearance after running away. I get itâs traumatic Garroth but at least try. No wonder Zane found you so easily. A super strong mysterious helmet wearing dude whoâs name is Garroth in a small backwater town. itâs too easy. ⢠We shouldâve seen some more Roâmeave brother angst. cmon it was needed Garroth was way too chill about all of this.
⢠More Jury of Nine pls the original was so lacking itâs not even funny. again the rebirth at least tried ⢠Not a bad thing but I love how the first thing Garroth says when he realizes Zane had manipulated him was âI was a fool blinded by your eyesâ itâs hilarious for multiple reasons

My Thoughts on the New MHA Opening and Ending
I have thoughts, and I will share them because oh boy if I donât get this out Iâm gonna explode
Vague Spoilers for the manga (up to chapter 258 and vigilantes) because I discuss the upcoming arcs, but I donât discuss any major plot points in detail. Still, proceed with caution if youâre anime only
Keep in mind, this OP and ED will cover the Endeavour Agency Arc and the MVA Arc, so I will be judging them accordingly.
First, the OP
This is a good OP... in theory (thatâs going to become my catchphrase for this post). Itâs nice to look at and flows pretty well, but my biggest problem is that it doesnât do itâs job. An OP is supposed to be a sort of... summary (?) of the Cour it plays for. That means any cool plot points, emotional beats, and important characters should be featured in some way, shape, or form. Weâll talk about that more later, but first letâs discuss the music.
The song is really good. I have a feeling it will continue to grow on me as I listen to it more often, but yeah my first impression is that the song sounds great. My only complaint about the music itself is that it ends kind of abruptly (I noticed this is the JT opening too). The previous openings used to have a bit of instrumental to âplay us outâ and lead us to the end card, but this one feels like it ends very suddenly and unnaturally.
As for the visuals...
Yeah alright Iâll admit, the visuals are stunning... in theory. I appreciate the variety in backgrounds and colours, it makes the OP really interesting to look at. This was actually one of my biggest problems with the JT Opening, it all took place on the training grounds, so there was no variety (everything was metal tubes with a blue sky, with only 3 shots set somewhere different). I appreciate the style of this OP.
But like I said, thatâs only in theory, as in, through screenshots these are all pleasing to look at. The pacing of this OP is wild, and I truly donât know who to blame for this.
That sunset shot above? It lasts approximately 12 seconds, zooming in every few to make it seem like something is happening (when in reality itâs still the same poses, angles, etc). While thereâs nothing wrong with a nice, drawn out shot, it becomes irritating when compared to the pacing of the rest of this op.
At the 41 second mark, we are given the shot above. It has flowed directly from the previous sunset scene. We still have not moved away from the image of the trio (aside from the opening shot and the title card) yet weâre approaching the halfway mark of the OP.
The next shot is the MLA, which lasts about 5 seconds. Ok, perfect. Not too long, but also not short enough to be confusing. It cuts away a little fast once the dude on the far left appears, but does anyone actually know who that is? No, seriously, Iâm asking. I donât remember his name and heâs not on the wiki, so I can only assume heâs not important. Therefore, itâs not all that bad if the shot cuts away shortly after he comes into frame. The audience is able to take in the scene without having to pause...
... And then the problems start
While this shot is fine in theory, it pans up fast and  cuts away quickly. You know how hard it was for me to get this screenshot? Really hard. You want to know why I struggled so much? Because, due to the timing of the cut and the way it pans upwards, itâs almost impossible to pause on Dabiâs face. I literally had to go frame by frame to get it, because heâs in shot for so little time that naturally pausing is guaranteed to miss him.
When watching this in real time (without pausing) the cut away makes you feel as if you missed something because âsomething was there, I just couldnât register what because now itâs goneâ. Unlike Compress, who wears a very colourful coat you can recognize the entire time, Dabiâs pants are more blended into the background.
It also doesnât help that this shot is literally composed to draw your attention away from Dabi until the last possible second. Due to framing, your eye is naturally drawn to the brightly coloured Toga in the foreground, making it super easy to miss Dabi in the back (until, of course, his bright face appears and contrasts against the background, drawing your eye just in time for the scene to change, leaving you to wonder who or what you missed).
I know this sounds like nitpicking, but this shot is the only group shot we get of the League, and is also the start of a seriously weird trend for the villains in this OP getting the short end of the stick.
Anyways, then we get what Iâll call âThe Carousel Shotâ in which every Class 1A kid shows up and poses dramatically, as if they were on a carousel. Itâs a lovely sequence and I really enjoy watching it but... why is it in this OP?
Seriously, this is a genuine question. Class 1A barely shows up in the Endeavour Agency Arc, and NONE of the students are in MVA. This sequence (not counting the three boys at the end) lasts 8 seconds. Why is this much time dedicated to characters who are barely in the arc? (Unless Studio Bones extends their work studies into fuller plot lines which oh my gosh please donât do that, or if they do, do it quick).
We then get what I call the âOh God I Blinked And Missed Everythingâ sequence, which lasts 3 seconds (not including the longer, moving shot of Shigaraki at the end) and features NINE INDIVIDUAL IMAGES, none of which are related to each other. Not only is this 3 images per second, but the fact that they are all unrelated means you canât even use previous information to fill in the blanks.
What do I mean by that? Well, imagine if I show you 9 images of various pro heroes posing. If I play that in 3 seconds youâll absolutely miss some of them, but as long as you catch some youâll still get an idea of what Iâm trying to show to you. Your brain is able to fill in the gaps that âI recognized 4 pro heroes, therefore the rest must have also been prosâ even if you didnât register every single frame.
That doesnât work if every frame features a completely different subject. The shots in this sequence vary so widely that itâs impossible to find a through line. Some feature multiple characters, some feature one, some are closeups, some are super far away, some are characterâs we know, others are characters we donât. Itâs impossible to get a solid read on what youâre being shown.
Now, again, thereâs nothing wrong with these super quick shots... in theory. The problem comes from the fact that these shots are the only indicators for some of the major themes that will be explored during this Cour (like Twiceâs growth and young Shigaraki).
That being said, letâs move away from criticism and talk about speculation, because hidden amongst this sequence are two... interesting images.
This All Might one is very reminiscent of the shot in Chapter 257, where Aizawa and All Might have a conversation while staring up at the stars. However, this is technically the start of the âWar Arcâ (or the âprologueâ, if thatâs what you want to call it), so this might indicate that weâre going to get farther into the series than a lot of us guessed.
(Many people suspected weâd get to that cliffhanger at the start of the season (if you read the manga you know the one), but after seeing the pacing for JT a lot of us assumed weâd be lucky to even finish Endeavour Agency. It seems weâre back to the cliffhanger now though lol).Â
This is another really interesting shot because itâs indicative of Shirakumo, meaning we might get to see Aizawa and Mic confront him some time this Cour (this also makes sense, since this confrontation technically happens before that All Might scene I mentioned in the previous paragraph).
But the cat specifically is a really strange addition. That cat is named Sushi and, correct me if Iâm wrong, but I donât think Sushi is ever mentioned in the main series. I think heâs only in Vigilantes.
This might just be a little Easter Egg for Vigilante readers, but Iâm personally hoping that theyâll add at least a few Vigilante shots in there to really tug at the heart strings. Iâd say I want a whole Vigilante episode but I donât think they have the time (unless they really cram MVA, which I do NOT want).
I donât have much to say about the last bit of the OP. The action shot between the 3 boys was nice, and it follows the sort of narrative through line they established from the early shot of them sitting at the sunset. I also like the shot of Endeavour fading in to replace All Might, even if itâs very simple.
But I want to talk about an overarching problem I touched upon earlier in that villain shot: the way the villains are handled in this OP.
This is a good OP... in theory. The problem is, it doesnât represent half the arcs in the cour! Every shot of the League is so rushed that you can barely register that they were on screen before theyâre gone.
I have no idea how many Episodes Endeavour Agency will take, but Iâd assume 3 (4 if you count the Christmas episode). 12 episodes for this Cour minus 3 for Endeavour Agency = 9 episodes left. If we truly do get the prologue for the War Arc (and if we assume itâs only 1 episode) that leaves us with 8 villains episodes.
8/12 episodes (aka two thirds of the Cour) will likely be about the villains. And yet theyâre pushed to the background so hard in this OP.
I want to dream, and I want to believe that this OP is going to magically change when MVA starts. The song fits super well, and I can imagine like an inversion of the OP but from the Villain side! Wouldnât that be neat? Imagine right after the âitâs alrightâ part Shigaraki just freaking decays the title card... oh man that would be so cool. But, alas, I highly doubt theyâd do that.
Side rant, but you know what was so fun about MVA in the manga? Itâs that, for 21 chapters, we leave the kids behind and the villains become our protagonists. Suddenly Shigaraki is the one weâre rooting for, suddenly weâre learning backstories for everyone, and suddenly we find ourselves just as attached to the villains as we are to the kids. Itâs an inversion thatâs SO RARE to find, and I think many people (myself included) were hoping it would be reflected in the OP.
A big part of being the protagonist means featuring heavily in the OP, and a lot of us just wanted the villains to get that honour, even if only once. As is, the OP still treats them as the antagonists when... really they arenât. Not right now, at least.
So yeah, final thoughts on the OP are that itâs good, itâs just not very representative of the arcs itâs supposed to cover. If this was just for Endeavour Agency, Iâd say itâs actually really cool, but if we assume that this is what will play for the Villain Arc, then it simply doesnât do itâs job. And it makes me sad to say that because, again, this OP is really well done.
If I had to rate it? Hmmm
If Studio Bones actually grants my wish and creates a different visual for the Villain Arc (while using the same song) and then this version only plays for the Endeavour Agency Arc and the War Prologue? Iâd give it an 8/10. Itâs really good, but it could use a few more elements that are clearly derived from the Agency Arc (ahem, Todoroki siblings).
But if this is the OP that will play for the entire Cour? a 6.5/10. Itâs nice, but itâs not representative of one of the arcs itâs going to cover. And, unlike other arcs like Pro Hero or Summer Exams, the villain Arc is so important and takes up so much time that it honestly feels like a bit of a disservice.
Now for the Ending
I want to say that I appreciate how soft this ending starts. This cour will likely feature a lot of episodes that end on... heavier themes, and I think the sight of peaceful, falling raindrops is the perfect way to let the audience process their emotions before starting the ending in earnest.
The song itself is very nice, and I like that itâs a bit slower than the more recent endings.
(Side note, but the FUNNIEST moment in the entire series is when Sir Nighteye dies because itâs so emotional and everyone is standing around his bed in his heartwrentching silence, only for the ending to come BLARING IN out of no where. If you forgot how jarringly hilarious it was, go listen to the Eri ending and tell me thatâs not the funniest thing this series ever did. Anyways yeah Iâm glad thatâs not gonna happen this Cour).
This ending is a bit all over the place in terms of itâs visuals, but honestly I think it works. Most endings usually have a theme tying them together (all the Class 1A girls, a fantasy AU, old photographs, planning a party, etc) but this endingâs theme is a bit harder to identify.
That being said, I think itâs just supposed to show everyone going about their day. Itâs calm, itâs peaceful, and itâs just very sweet to think about
I like this shot. Actually, scratch that, I like this whole sequence. I enjoy anything that allows Class 1A to chill and have fun.
Hawks is featured quite heavily in this ending which, fair. Heâs pretty important in this arc.
I really love the shot where Endeavour immediately switches to Hawks, I thought that was a lot of fun, and very good symbolism on how Hawks wants to be like Endeavour. I also love all the shots of Baby Hawks, because itâs adorable.
Something about this shot is just so cute. Itâs the little domestic things like waiting for a bus that make this ending feel... idk the word, real? It shows a side of the characters that weâll never see in the episodes, but we know have to exist.
Like yes, of course the kids have to wait for the bus. We never see it, but of course there are those moments of quiet. Agh, I love it.
The villains also make an appearance and Iâm very happy about that (Iâd love to see more of the villains just chilling around, I think they deserve it). I kind of wish they werenât sitting in a dark room for the sake of being edgy, since I think it would be nice to see the villains just... sort of existing, but honestly itâs still a nice shot. I also like how this shot sort of mirrors the first one with Class 1A (someone coming in while everyone else is sitting and waiting for them).
That being said, as much as I love looking at Dabi and his stupid face (affectionate)... why is Dabi the one getting the closeup?
Mind you, endings donât need to be connected to their Cours (they can be, like the Eri one, but they donât have to be). But this ending does seem to be connected to the arcs it intends to cover, given all the Hawks appearances, the boys wearing their work study scarves, etc.
So, I ask again, why Dabi? Out of the six League members, we learn the backstory for four of them in this arc (Shigaraki, Toga, Twice, and we very briefly learn about Spinner). The only two left out are Dabi and Compress.
I can only assume they chose Dabi because heâs constantly in contact with Hawks, and therefore that makes him important? If the OP told us anything, itâs that Bones values the Endeavour Agency Arc over the Villain Arc lol...
... Oh my gosh please tell me thatâs not actually the reason Dabi is focused on here BONES WAI-
Anyways, the ending comes to a close with Hawks watching over the kids and Endeavour. The relaxing time is done, itâs time for work studies.
Overall impression? Itâs great. Itâs hard to screw up an ending, so as long as you have something pretty on screen, itâs wonderful.
Iâll give this a 9/10

Didnât Need Burrow (March 21st-23rd)
Anonymous said:
technically not a Didn't Need Burrow,,, but~ Didn't Need Burrow to know I'm cherry-picking canon continuity from here on out~
or perhaps,,,, Didn't Need Burrow to know that Marinette's gonna get blamed for things she didn't do and other such bs, oh, and the amount of 'oh adrien~' sighing is gonna be obnoxious.
Oh yeah, thatâs definitely on my Treatment of Marinette list. All the time.
(the blame one actually ended up being true, so congrats! Marinette gets blamed for losing miraculouses; yes, she lost the bee, but the one who blamed her has no knowledge of this and could only be referring to the peacock and butterfly.)
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: Astruc will tout Lila as HM and Felix as Mayura as being "progressive" and "empowering". But her motivation to get the Miraculous will be something petty like "win Adrien and punish Marinette." Also, all her plans will fail because she didn't listen to her "smart, competent sidekick". Felix will also plot to overthrow her.
Lila: How are you more competent than me???
Felix: Search engines. You donât seem to be aware that they exist nor the knowledge they have.
No but really, I wouldnât be surprised. Felix is more sympathetic in a narrative sense (i.e: has a sad backstory) than Lila.
Anonymous said:
Didnt need burrow: the relationship starts in the last few minutes of the show, with still limited interactions before this, disappointing even hardcore shippers
lol, makes me wish I had fandom reactions as an option for the card.
But if I had, weâd probably have a full card by now.
Anonymous said:
Didnât Need Burrow: When Marinette gets akumatised, she will be either too op or defeated in 5 minutes. Regardless, she will be blamed for being akumatised in the first place, and the person who caused it will get off scott free. Bonus if âtrue love kissâ purifies the akuma and Marinette apologizes for feeling emotions.
âMarinette apologizes for feeling emotionsâ is a good summary of the whole show, honestly.
Anonymous said:
Donât Need Burrow: The kwamis will be a constant hindrance to Marinette and cause a lot of problems for her but never apologize for it, at least not without an Adrisad- I MEAN KWAMI SAD MOMENT where theyâre all âwE jUST mISS mAstER fUâ, which results in Marinette apologizing even tho she has nothing to be sorry for bECaUSE tHEres jUST nOt eNOUgh oF tHAt iS tHEre đ
god, Iâm not emotionally ready for Marinette feeling bad on the grounds that sheâs ânot Master Fuâ so the kwami either prefer him or wonât stop thinking about him (excluding the fact that he doesnât let the kwami out like Marinette does but sure buddy).
Anonymous said:
Don't need Burrow: Ms Bustier will go on maternity leave and be replaced by a deputy teacher who is a completely new character. This deputy teacher will only appear in this episode and basically only to be akumatized by Hawkmoth and will not be even mentioned in any other episode.
How convenient.
Anonymous said:
Didn't Need Burrow: they're gonna try to blame the Order falling on Marinette even though that happened nearly 200 years before she was born
Thankfully, this didnât end up happening, but they did however not mention that Marinette was the one who saved them in the first place.

Didn't Need Burrow;
Adrimi will be together for at least halfway through the season, while Lukanette breaks up in episode one
Because Marinette has to suffer
I see the logic behind this, but the only reason Iâd say ânoâ is because of the Love Square Status Quo. Iâm feeling that it ends in episode 2 or so.
#other: ml spoilers#((This one's a little late but I assure you that these all came out before ''Furious Fu''!))#((I just got a lot of asks because all of the spoilers so I hadn't had time.))#Didn't Need Burrow

Uncle Scrooge by Don Rosa:Â The Isle at the Edge of Time (Thank You Comission For Rosie Isla)
Hello all you happy people! Todayâs review is a bit special as itâs the result of another review. See I had trouble finding a translation of the subject of last weeksâ motherâs day special, Family Ties.Â
No not that one. I have Paramount+. I can watch all the Family Ties I want and thatâs a fact that iâm pleased as punch about.Â
No it was the story 80 is Prachtig, called Family Ties in the copy used, Dellaâs first major comics appearance and one that explains what happened to her in the classic continuity, one that clearly served as the foundation for her far more fleshed out 2017 versions personality and backstory. It also had Pinocchio in it for some reason, and spent most of itâs large run time on a meta comedy plot that had nothing to do with the reason anyone wanted to read this story in the first place.
But despite being a vitally important story, it never got an english translation, something that baffled me till I read the story and found cameos of the racist indigenous stereotypes from Peter Pan. In 2014. You may commence booing. Even with how weird the story was I simply couldnât find the story googling it and the Della tag is too vast and deep to go spelunking in.
So whatâs all this have to do? Simple I put out a post last month when neither I nor Kev, who wanted to comission it as part of Moons, Millionares and Mothers, my coverage of all three season 2 Ducktales story arcs, could find a copy and offered a review to whoever found it. Weeks passed I got nothing.. then in the 11th hour I got a break as the lovely @rosieislaâ found a translation that was on this very site, one she seemed to have helped with. As a result I could do the review and as a man of my word, offered it up despite her clearly having not seen that part of the post and simply having done this to be nice. Still she gladly took up the offer and offered me my pick of two stories: The Carl Barks Story Back to Long Ago or this one.Â
As for WHY I picked this one Back To Long Ago didnât seem bad, iâm just not a fan of âThe Cast is put in the past as their own ancestorsâ type deals. Or in some cases put the cast as people from that time period. Itâs just not for me and is most often done in TV where it can get really goofy, Beverly Hills 90210 being a prime example of this, though Girl Meets World was no slouch in being embarassing... that being said I really need to finish that show and miss it.Â
So yeah when put up against a story with two intresting hooks and FLINTHEART GLOMGOLD, even if iâts not the version thatâs my boy, it was no contest. So what are these hooks you ask? Well join me under the cut and find out.Â
We open with a weird stylistic choice: This story has a narrator complete with caption boxes. Now for those of you familiar with comics or pastiches of comics in tv and film, this probably dosenât seem like a big deal. It was a common thing in comics from their inception to 90â˛s to have caption boxes, big boxes of text narrating the action to help move things along faster. It did start to fade out by the 80â˛s and was gone by the end of the 90â˛s for the most part, replaced instead with first person narration. Itâs the kind of thing youâd see most often in the Golden and Silver Ages, with stuff like tihs
Itâs not a BAD device, itâs good old cheesy and bombastic fun and some writers did get clever with it.. like that time Chris Claremont used the narration to yell at a greiving cyclops after he lost a teammate early in his long and storied run on the uncanny x-men.Â
This is a objectively weird scene thatâs still somehow effective by the by. On the one hand it does come off as Chris Claremont essentally bullying Cyclops who already feels guilty for a death that was not in fact his fault as Thunderbird was told the plane he was attacking with fleeing villian Count Nefaria was about to explode and refused to listen.. and that they needed to get rid of either him or Wolverine as both served the same purpose and chose the non-white guy.Â
On the other htough it comes off just as much as Scott beating himself up in his grief and anger over the event and his perceived failings as a leader. Itâs good stuff and shows why this run caught on as this was only three issues in. Also the rest of the issue features the X-Men fighting a giant cyclopian demon that Cyclops accidently freed in his rage by destroying the stone thing keeping him imprisoned. No really hereâs the cover
Huh so thaâts what Niftyâs dad looks like. Neat. Also I REALLY hope we get the X-Men fighting aliens or demons in the MCU. Unlike the XCU the MCU isnât alergic to getting batshit.. and for the record Deadpool and New Mutants are the exception, not the rule.
My point that I swear I do have is that this was common practice for most comics.. but never really for Disney Duck comics. It popped up ocasionally, like with Scroogeâs introduction, but Barks and those after him never really used them that much. Sure theyâd have caption boxes for flasbacks and what not but Barks and Co geninely only used this sort of thing to set up a story. The most iâve seen it in a duck comic is life and times and even then iâts usually only used for gags or to set up the passage of time, as the story IS covering decades and thus often needed to have montages to show time passing, and in the case of chapter 11, had to cover decades in the span of a single chapter, so itâs not like they had many other options. So even Rosa as a personal quirk didnât really use these often.Â
Rosa used this specifically because he felt the plot was complicated by the use of the international date line. As for what it is, itâs essentially a line marking calender dates from one side of the hemisphere to the others. To use the offical defentition from the National Ocean Service I found via a quick google:
âThe International Date Line, established in 1884, passes through the mid-Pacific Ocean and roughly follows a 180 degrees longitude north-south line on the Earth. It is located halfway round the world from the prime meridianâthe zero degrees longitude established in Greenwich, England, in 1852.
The International Date Line functions as a âline of demarcationâ separating two consecutive calendar dates. When you cross the date line, you become a time traveler of sorts! Cross to the west and itâs one day later; cross back and youâve âgone back in time."
Despite its name, the International Date Line has no legal international status and countries are free to choose the dates that they observe. While the date line generally runs north to south from pole to pole, it zigzags around political borders such as eastern Russia and Alaskaâs Aleutian Islands.â
Rosa felt this made the story complicated.... and that... really isnât remotely true. The narration is mostly used for gagas and really dosenât clarify anything. itâs mostly used well in the opening.. but the actual explinations for the date line are clear enough in the story that even if I hadnât looked the thing up, I still wouldâve got it and iâm sure a kid wouldâve too. It just feels like a weird thing to ruminate on, especially because heâs got actual things to make up for: while to his credit the native american characters he cribbed from carl barks are sympathetic, their culture respected and treated decently and used for a green aseop, their dialouge is stitled and sterotypical something he dosenât even comment on (And these trades ewrenât THAT long ago)Â
And of course it dosenât help that he dosenât even comment on using a common device in american superhero boooks.. in the same volume where he ONCE again makes an unwanted and outdated diatribe about superhero comics. Iâll probably cover the Super Snooper Strikes again so I can throughly tear this apart but higlights include: Calling superhero comics âUnwantedâ just because he dosenât like them personally, when people like me would disagree and theyâve lasted through a LOT of highs and lows, outdately saying they took over the American market as the only suitable comics which while true for a TIME,but by 2015 when this book was printed is laughably out of date, as non superhero works like The Walking Dead, Saga, and Scott Pilgrim were massively popular, one of my faviorite comics that is entirely slice of life and would go on to bea huge hit, Giant Days, re-debuted that very year. He also has the fucking gal to insult The Uncanny X-Men by name and I swear to god I did not know this when I made those references earlier, but as you probably guessed REALLY god me livid.Â
And this is just on his COMMENTS on the story I canât imagine just how bad the content itself is and having read the first few pages which come off as Rosa using Donald to essentially do an âold man yells at cloud rantâ about superhero comics, I really donât want to. Might make htis a patreon exclusive or again would do it on comissoin. You all make the call.... the point is I donât likes his elitist bullshit about superhero comics, and this is clearly something that gets my hackles up as I just spent a good two paragraphs of an entirely unrealted review yelling at the guy for it. I donât like when he does this and this authors notes entirley felt like an excuse. I GET the dark age of comics were bad, they REALLY were that bad, but I will NEVER accept painting an enitre genre as bad just because one work in it is bad. And I wont accept it from someone who himself writes about an often throughly unlikeable anti-hero for a living. Scrooge may not have a gun on his gun on his gun or get to stabbing or have pouches, but he DOES finacially abuse his nephew, scoff at peopleâs personal troubles, and often refuse to use his wealth to help others in general. So yeah in conclusion Rosa really needs to say less about this subject.Â
Okay so where were we.. right the story hadnât even started yet. Jesus.Â
Okay so our story begins with the narrator. Whose going on about time and what not. The main point of this speech about time is that itâs night in Duckburg and Scrooge is going to bed as, even being the workhorse that he is, he canât keep going 24 hours. While heâs snoozing though something major happens and itâs the hook that made me pick this story along with the international dateline one.. an island rises thanks to volcanic erruption.. and the lava is GOLD. Thatâs just pure unabashed classic Duck Stuff: a mysterious treasure or phenominon of gold bound to bring scrooge in.Â
But Scrooge isnât stupid: the sun comes up and the world still spins while he sleeps, so he set up a satalite to monitor for this sort of thing. The thing naturally goes nuts.. and even more naturally breaks down becasue Scrooge bought cheap parts. A nice gag and a fully in character way to bring our antagonist into the picture, as the Satellite of Loaded falls in the middle of South Africa... right on the property of my boy Flintheart Glomgold.Â
This is something Rosa brought up in his commentary for the story iâd never thought about. It turns out Glomgold being a citzen of Duckburg WASNâT an invention of the original Ducktales but the comics: some overseas had understandably moved him from his home country of South Africa. Him bieing in the same town as Scrooge instead of half a world away allows for easier setups and more intresting ones.
Rosa however being obdient to Barks Version of things, ketp Glomgold in South Africa like barks did, which was an .. ifffy decision given Apartheid had JUST ended at the time of this story. Not so much in the reboot as not only had apartheid been long gone by the time of the reboot, but thatâs more fair. Still we do get some gorgeous vistas as a result as Glomgoldâs minon goes to look at it and finds itâs from McDuck Mining company... Glomgoldâs reaction is obvious.Â
So on that note we cut to Scrooge rushing to Donalds house and forcing him awake and not telling him anything at first. Look his Ducktales Counterpart straight up kidnapped his donald in my last review, Iâd call this a win. He also tries to dress Donald while explaning both his panic to find the crashed satlitle and what it found: the golden island. The end result of him dressing donald is worth a chuckle
So after Donald puts his shirt and little hat on our heroes get rollin rollin rollin what keep rollin rollin rollin who to Manilla. On the plane we get the scene I mentioned: The boys make a quip about Scrooge having lost a day and the group go over the international date line. Itâs a fun little scene especially Donald trying to get paid early at the end. Classic scrooge and donald stuff without the abusive undertones some of their classic stuff has.Â
Meanwhile Glomgold works out the data and finds out about the gold island, and his excitement accidently wakes a giraffe outside.. welll it was nice knowing him, Giraffes are the deadliest species known to man.. hereâs an educational video t back that up....
youtube
So at Manilla Airport, Scrooge finds out abotu the south african crash, figuring heâll get a laugh out of glomgold being there ... only for Donald to spot the Jet. Scrooge figures this canât be anything good... now come on man maybe heâs just promoting his energy drink.Â
As super sayin god super sayian as my witness, I will never get tired of Ultra Instinct Glomgold here.Â
Scrooge isnât so nice about that though and figures he better find out if Glomgold knows about the island and bribes one of the fueling crew for his uniform. He sucesssfully eavesdrops on Glomgold talking to his pilot, finding out from him exactly WHERE the island is. He ends up hilariously botching the mission though: when getting ready to leave Glomgold complains abotu the price of gas and that naturally causes Scrooge, just as cheap, to join in... and Glomgold to find out itâs Scrooge. The two wrestle outside the plane but before this can progress to a game of Naked Robber an airport security guy comes up and Scrooge cleverly claims that Glomgoldâs plane has an infestiation, requring it to be quanrantined and allowing Scrooge to jet on.. thoguh not with an actual jet. With Glomgold seemingly dispatched, he can afford to save some money and take his time with a seaplane and I know just the man for the job.Â
Oh nope looks like heâs busy. So one time related rambles later we meet Keoki, their asian pilot from the tiny island of Wookawooka.. and no thatâs not a real place i checked... and no Fozzy dosenât own it his check bounced. That being said it is a very well done represntation of someone from a smaller country: heâs doing this job to try and bring money back home, but being a seaplane captain just isnât enough and his island is dying. Scrooge naturally is about as sympathetic as youâd expect, having apparently never even heard of the idea of a bonus when Huey, Dewey or Louie suggests it.Â
Even less suprising is that Glomgold streaks by in his Jet:turns out Manilla was already overun with the bugs Scrooge claimed and Donald rubs it in that had Scrooge got a JET this wouldnât of been an issue.Â
So Glomgold easily beats them there, and to add insult and actualy injury to a cash based one, our heroes get blasted by golden lava on the way in and crash. Shouldâve gotten launchpad... got the crashing professional. Keoki is dispondent as this means his people are doomed. He also dosenât know waht staking a claim is when Scrooge mentions it and the boys bring him up to speed with the poor guy saying he wish he could for WookaWooka. Donald also makes a valid point about how greedy and heartlress scrooge can be.. and really billiionares in general.
No no YOUR the Grouch who refuses to have one drop of emapthy. Donaldâs just pissed at your general selfish and terrible behavior.Â
Glomgold glomgloats and has seemingly won... but naturally that rant that seemed extranious at the time about the date line comes into play: turns out the Island is on it, and since glomgold put his marker int he west, Scrooge simply puts his in the east which is a whole day before. Now GRANTED thereâs nor eal legal prescendice for the intetaoinal date line itself , as noted above... but thereâs enough witnesses in Scroogeâs favor that it simply does not matter anyway. Scrooge SEEMINGLY wins.
But Huey, Dewey Or Louie instead backs another claim: Keokiâs from earlier. While it was made in gest, he and the others along with Donald back it as witnsses instad. WookaWooka is saved and SCrogoe ends the story yelling at the narrator.
Final Thoughts: Don Rosa.. did not like this story, feeling it wasnât one of his best and apologizing for it. I however.. really loved it. Itâs not PERFECT: the narration feels not entirely necessary and the gag isnât as funny as he thinks, though the payoff of scrooge saying âitâs time for this story to endâ is fucking hilarous. I also feel itâs a bit too compressed: the story is only 16 pages and was only THAT long because Rosa added a few for exposition, a worthy addition. This feels like one of his 30 page adventure stories but slightly crammed into half the length. I also feel the golden island bit was BADLY underused as itâs such a cool setting but barely shows up in the story.Â
But despite that.. itâs still a fun story: as is standard for Rosa the art is gorgeous and the humor is great. And unlike some stories where Rosa casually ignores how terrible scrooge is, here itâs his own greed and hubris that do him in: had he actually agreed to help Keoki, the boys likey wouldâve let him keep the island but his own cold refusual to be a human being does him in, just as his cheapness nearly did. Flintheart is also decent here.. not the deepest foe but frankly most classical duck antagonists really arenât all that fleshed out, and we still get some good bits with him. The dateline bit, while telegraphing that it will be important, as I said REALLY isnât that hard to understand. All in all while iâll agree with Rosa this isnât his BEST, itâs still a really damn good story and one he shoudlnât be ashamed of.Â
Tommorow: Green Eggs and ham is back for some train shenanigans! Kay.Â
Saturday: The Tom Retrospective returns for itâs last detour! Eclipsa and Moon team up to stop meteora but grapple with diffrent wants: One to save her daughter.. the other to stop waht she clearly sees as an out of control monster. The result.. will only lead to tragedy and a hell of a two parter.Â

BRIDGERTON BOOK SERIES REVIEW.
So here it is, before I start I just wanted to say that Iâm in no way shape or form an expert in english or literature for that matter. English is my third language and Iâm studying science. Having said that, I have read all eight books in less than two weeks and I have a lot of opinions that I wanted to share so here they are. Obviously: SPOILERS AHEAD
The series in its entirety
The bridgerton series is probably the best written series that I have ever read. I loved the fact that it is made up of 8 books, but also the way the books are structured. In each of the books we focus on one of the siblings and their significant others, and even when the side characters are there, they are not really a main focus of the story. This means you can pick up a random Bridgerton book without having read the other ones and you would not feel like you are missing something. I really liked this because it meant that with each book you were getting to know a different sibling, thus you are never really bored and there wasnât unnecessary drama happening with the already established couples, which is refreshing at the least.
However, it does have setbacks. In some of the books, you find that this side characters really change from the way they appear in the background or the other novels, and it can be difficult to digest at first. Another flaw that I found is with the brothers' books. When I was reading some of the books dedicated to the men of the family sometimes I found that we donât spend enough time with them and when you finish the books you donât have an understanding of who they are. Maybe Iâm not making sense but Iâll elaborate in each book a little bit more.
But in the end, even these little flaws, I had a great time reading the books and finding out what was happening with the family.
My favourite book - AOFAG
I know some people have trouble ranking the Bridgerton books, especially, the favourite one, but Iâm not one of them. I am obsessed with âAn offer from a gentlemanâ, I love the story, I love Sophie, I love Benedith and I love Violet Bridgerton with all of my heart. This book is great from the start, even though b, the third book you know a happy ending is what the book is leading to, it still excites you and makes you wonder. AMAZING DARE I SAY.
Sophie is one of my favourite characters in all of the books. She has a strong morals system and you get really inspired by her. All of the things she goes through are horrible, but she still remains such a calm and kind individual that I cannot help but stan. HARD. She has very strong ideas and morals and she sticks with them even when they mean losing Benedict. I found this message really important and powerful because we usually see the opposite: people changing their views for their significant other, and I donât think it's right. So, hereby I declare Sophie QUEEN of the Bridgerton clan.
Moving on to Benedict, I heard a little bit of criticism with his actions in this book and I see where they are coming from, but I donât share them. I think Benedict is one of the brothers that suffers from a really deep female counterpart and as such his thoughts are not fully explored. In my opinion Benedict is tormented by the fact that he is the second Bridgerton and nothing more (similar to Colin and kinda Gregory really), and also by the fact that he lost the woman at the ball. On top of that, Sophie comes along and he starts falling for her and he feels guilty that he is falling for someone else, so he doesnât fully commit to Sophie but also doesnât really leave her. Itâs a messed up situation and he doesnât make the best decisions but I understand his actions and I support him. The only thing that really annoyed me about Benedict is that he doesnât recognize Sophie at all. I wanted to hit him, hard, in the head, with a fucking piano.
Now the best of the best: Violet Bridgerton. She was the surprise character of this book in that prison scene. In the previous book you still see her and like her but she saves the day in this one, and I felt like I really knew her after that. She is not the typical ton mother, she really values their childrenâs happiness and takes everyone under her wing. She knows who she is and the importance her family has and she uses her powers for good. I gained so much respect for her. A surprise character and a great one.
To sum it up, Benedict and Sophie are perfect to each other, like this mellow entity. Two kind souls, always happy, always calm. Of course they live in the countryside, they could not live anywhere else.
Top tier books - WHWW, RMB, TVWL
WHEN HE WAS WICKED
This book wrecked me, I have to admit I was a mess, I could not deal. A tragic story with so much longing and guilt and despair, I love a drama, man this is great. I went in knowing the basics of it but I was not prepared.
The poor Francesca has the most devastating story in my opinion: she suffers from infertility, her husband dies, she doesnât feel like she fits in her family, and when she falls in love Michael is sick, WHY?!. Throughout the book you get to see how strong she is, how strong-willed she is. We are not talking about this enough. She loves with all her heart and she suffers with all of it too. She and Michel have a really strong chemistry and it translates really well. I think she was really clever to wait and think before committing to Michael, and I see how she would need to see him in danger to really let herself fall completely. In the end, she knows what losing someone you love feels like and she doesnât want to feel that again. I understand. Also, an important part of Francesca's journey is to realize that loving someone else doesnât diminish her feelings for John, and I love how Michael acknowledges it.Â
Michael is a really interesting character who falls in love at first sight with the wrong woman. He is fully aware of this fact and it is really good to see that he doesnât doubt his love for her, but is instead aware of the impossibility of doing something about it. Even when he can do something about it, his respect for his cousin is always present. The guilt he feels for loving Francesca both when John was alive and after he died is so different but so well written. Itâs eating him up and It is painful to read to be honest. However, I found that said guilt disappeared rather quickly after his conversation with Colin. I may be the only one but I was a little bit put off by it, and thatâs why this is not my favourite book in the series.
THE VISCOUNT WHO LOVED MEÂ
The bees, I could talk about the bees for days after reading this one. This one has a lot of Bridgerton backstory, and it explains so much of the rest of the bunch even if not directly. So I would say not to skip it (but why would you skip any of them?).
Kate Sheffield is one of the best written characters in this series. She is complex, fierce but delicate, confident but self-conscious. I would kill for her, she deserves it. Her family dynamics are impeccable. You feel the love between these three women and the roles they have, and you get them really quickly: Edwina is the little sister, a little naive but good-hearted, Kate is the fierce older sister and Mary is the compassionate step-mother. I really enjoyed their dynamics. The introduction of Kateâs character is by presenting her goal for the season: defend her sister. When Anthony enters the pool of suitors, she obviously opposes and their back and forth shows she is very witty. But as the story goes on we get to see her insecurities and fears, in a way that itâs so in character but at the same time so different from the start. Itâs amazing and I can see why she is such a fan favourite.
Anthony is a baby.We can see how Edmundâs death really scarred him, and those wounds are deep. He believes in his own demise so blindly that it is conditioning all of his decisions. He grows a lot until he is able to share them with Kate and they bond so beautifully over it. Getting to see that, was something that I loved and enjoyed so much. It makes you really connect with both of the characters and it explains so much of his behaviour, that even if he frustrates you, you canât be mad because you understand where he comes from.
Newton is the guest star in this one and I would like to take our time to appreciate the captain of the Kanthony ship. This little dog is such a plot device, put there to cause havoc and bring Kate and Anthony together, it is so funny. He smelled Anthony and decided he wanted a new dad. Put a plan in march, probably alerted his friend, THE bee.
ROMANCING MR BRIDGERTON
The message of this book is amazing. The journey they both go through to re-know each other is beautiful. Penelope and Colin have known each other for years, and they both have a version of the other in their minds but as the story progresses they unveil hidden personality traits about each others and I love how it is acknowledge and developed into a clear message of âpeople are flawed and not the perfect individual you wish them to be, and thatâs okâ. It is really necessary and it made me reflect on my own relationships and how I could improve them. Colin and Penelope have to be my favourite couple of the series, but, because they were because of the show and not the books, when I finished this book I was left feeling like I wanted more, and that is why it is not my favourite one.
This is the book where readers find out Penelope is Lady Whiseldown and it is a big plot line. However, this revelation is maybe halfway through the book and until then, Penelope's inner monologue doesnât reveal anything. I would have loved to really focus on it and know from the start how she really did it but at the same time, we get to see so much of Penâs growth anyways. She is shy and kind but when she is with someone she trusts (in this case Colin and Lady Danbury), she is full of wit and boldness. I see myself so much in these characteristics that I cannot help but make her my favourite character in the series (totally biased but it is what it is). She starts with a sense of discontent about her, she knows her fate and accepts it but, she doesnât necessarily like it. She is trying to change the way people see her and Lady Danbury helps a lot with it. She and Colin spend a lot of the book kind of on opposite sides in part because of their own demons, she wants to prove herself and at the same time is faced with the realization that the Colin she made up in her mind is not the real one. It really makes you wonder if itâs a happy ending at the end of it, because they both have such strong points but they are so diverse. At the end, after they talk about it, their relationship is full of devotion and you feel how they are making each other focused and better. I would die for them.
Colin is such a tumultuous character and it is a stark contrast on how we get to see him in the previous and following books. He is used to putting the charm on and fooling everybody but, of course, in this book we explore his inner workings and now we know the truth. He is just a lost puppy, looking for something to do with his life, and he is so focused on this search and runnin away for his family that he doesnât see that there is already something that he is good about: writing. His relationship with Pen is obviously key in all of this searching because it pushes his limits and makes him think. His realization, of both his vocation and his love are slow and steady. He sometimes jumps to conclusions and rushes things *ahem*the proposal*cough* but not love, and once he commits he does it fully. The âstay, stay, stayâ scene is a monumental hallmark in the book. We see Colin really deciding and choosing Penelope and Lady Whistle down with all that it entails. And later on, he opens out about his jealousy over her work, but he does it when he is ready, and Pen allows him to come to her when he needs without judgement. They are so perfect it hurts.Â
The lack of Eloise is an insult to my soul but we get Lady Danbury as the guest star. She is on Penelope's corner helping her navigate the ton and her relationship with Colin, as a mother figure would. I believe she at least has a big suspicion that she is LW, but I might be wrong.
All-nighter books - OTWTTW, IIHK. ON THE WAY TO THE WEDDING
Gregoryâs book is full of twists and turns that you just cannot put it down. Not the fact that the main female character is Lucy and not Hermoine, like Gregory thinks half of the book, just because you donât. It is pretty clear that Lucy is our heroine so the fact that Gregory falls for her is not a twist itself because we (and Kate) already know. But in my opinion, the fact that it starts with Gregory interrupting the wedding and then it goes back and explains the backstory to you, so it is constantly leading up to it.Â
Lucy is not the most interesting of the female leads but it is part of her charm. She is a normal girl, her life is already arranged, so she doesnât feel the pressure the rest of them do, she is just enjoying herself. She doesnât believe in love, and it is so funny how in denial she is about it, until it all explodes.Â
Gregoryâs life was influenced by her brothers before him and his big family but he feels so alone because of the age difference. He is trying to find his place in life and, because he saw all of his siblings fall in love he wants the same thing so badly, that he confuses desire with love. He is so precious, and must be protected at all costs.
The last few chapters are action packed, thereâs an urgency in everyone's actions: Lucy, trying to save her family and Gregory, trying to save Lucy. I couldnât figure out what was going to happen and that hooked me. The fact that the wedding actually takes place is the most shocking plot of all of the books. Â
To conclude, Gregory owns my heart and I trust him with it.
ITâS IN HIS KISS
This story is another âall-nighterâ, because it revolves around a mystery and the search for Garethâs grandmother lost jewels. This quest brings Hyacinth and Gareth together, with a lot of Lady Danburyâs help. Itâs really interesting to read about the felonies they commit, all of them instigated by Hyacinth, who, in my opinion, is chaos personified.Â
Hyacinth is the most forward-thinking woman of this series. She is outspoken, confident, loud and apologetic. All of these traits really set her apart, because she doesnât play by the rules of society, she does what she pleases, and she should. She is the typical little sister, a little spoiled but with a good heart. Her conversations with Violet are really touching.Â
Gareth on the other side, is not in a good place with his family, and it is endearing to see how shocked he is by the Bridgertonâs closeness. He has a severe lack of self love, and sees himself as an imposter, and not worthy of Hyacinth. But when he falls, OMG, HE FALLS. His attitude towards Hyacinthâs personality is amazing because he loves her exactly as she is, and knows he will be following her orders for the rest of his life. Adorable. (He is the âThatâs my wifeâ meme).
Lady Danbury is again the guest star and it only helps to cement her as the cool grandma that we all aspire to be. An honorable mention is Anthony getting super-duper happy that all of his sisters are married and therefore he is free (my poor guy).
However, the main issue I have with this book is that the decision of getting married is really attached to Garethâs need to vex his father, who is a horrible person, and it makes me mad.Â
Not my favourite books - TSPWL, TDAI
TO SIR PHILIP WITH LOVE
In this book Eloise decides running off to meet a possible husband is a great idea. Her brain, I canât. Obviously the Bridgerton brothers follow her and force the two to marry anyways, although they were already falling in love when they found her. Phillip, Eloise's love interest is a loner and lives outside of the ton and I think that these traits really work with her because they are polar opposites but at the same time they fit so well. The relationship Eloise has with Amanda and Oliver is so cute, because you can see that these kids just need some attention and help navigating the world without her mother and Eloise is there for them.
However, even though I loved their storyline and I wanted to rank this higher I couldnât. The other Bridgertons are a big part of this book and when I was thinking back on it the parts that I remember fondly the most are when Anthony, Benedict, Colin and Gregory arrive to kill talk to Philip, and then when Charles is ill and we get to see Benedict and Sophie as parents. So, I like this book because of side characters and not the main ones, even though I know there is nothing wrong with them. However, I do think the book is ok and I would recommend it nevertheless.
THE DUQUE AND I
I donât have much to say about this book. The r*pe is completely unnecessary in my opinion. Daphne and Simon have terrible communication skills, but so do Kate and Anthony, for example, but still, the repercussions are not that severe. It is so much worse in the books and it has no consequences whatsoever. Up until that point, the enemies to secret dating to falling in love is such a classic thorpe that I usually like, but I cannot separate the two of them. In fact, I would advise to skip this one.
Hapily Ever After
Thank you to the heavens for this book. It is just a little exploration of all of the siblingâs future and an extra story for Violete.
Daphneâs story revolves around her last pregnancy. A surprise one when she is quite old. I found it really sweet and it looks like she and Simon are really happy with their life so good for them. Also, Colin and Penelope visit with all of their children so Iâm obligated to like it.
The TVWLM continuation is a get together in Aubrey Hall for a Pall Mall rematch. I had so much fun reading it and getting to see all of the Bridgertons interact in a ârelaxedâ manner.
Sophie and Benedictâs story focuses on Posy and her search for a husband. She is lovely and I do want her happiness but getting to see Sophie and Benedict interact while actually together was a treat. I feel very blessed to see them be the balls of sunshine they both are.
Then we get to see how Eloise found out Lady Whisheldowâs identity. It was fun, and we get to see Pen and Eloise being friends, which we donât get enough of in their respectives books. Colin and Penelope leaving the wedding early, was a gem. They are a couple of horny idiots and I love to see it. After that, we focus on Eloise again and we get to see a little bit more about Amanda and Oliver.
One of the main things about Francesca in her book is the fact that she wants a baby, and it is never resolved. In this one, we get to see how Francesca and Michael become parents and it's another heartbreaking one. We get to see how worried Violet is for her and also how Michael and Francesca talk and understand each other. They are one of the best relationships on this series, I said what I said.
In IIHK the diamonds are never found, but we find them here. It is great to know they were not missing and also a relief to know that Gareth was able to rescue the family even without them. The fact that Isabella actually finds them and proceeds to say nothing is hilarious. But when Hyacinth finds them the happiness she feels is so wholesome.
Then we get to see Gregory and Lucyâs twins be born (their 8th and 9th children). It is not an easy task and for a moment I was afraid for Lucy but it all works out in the end. It was filled with great moments but the one that I like the most is when Gregory says that Katherine gave him purpose in life, because he was meant to be a dad. I cried ngl.
And lastly, we meet Edmund. He is very present throughout the book but I was not expecting to grow so attached to him with this little story. It is divided in different stages of Violetâs life and obviously we get to see her romance with Edmund. I loved the little details, his behaviour reminded me of Gregory but he eats a lot like Colin so it is great to see where they get their traits from. The later parts, after he dies, show you how much importance Violet puts on remembering him and preserving his memory. They were truly soulmates, and it is such a shame that their time together was cut short.

Fate The Winx Commentary
Good morning internet! Today is the drop of Winx: Riverdale edition! I sure hope you're ready for my aggressive and unnecessary commentary, because it is coming for you either way!
The netflix landing page lets us know:
Fate The Winx Saga
6 episodes, 48-53 minutes each
"Genres: Fantasy TV Shows, Teen TV Shows, Italian TV Shows"
"This show is: Emotional"
As mentioned elsewhere, my Winx knowledge is limited, so I will be coming into this fairly fresh and will try to be unbiased. As I have seen trailers, the keyword here is Try.
Episode 1
'To the Waters and the Wild'
CW: Animal Death, Swears, Implied Child Death, Blood, Implied Teen Sex, Burns, Weed, Fatphobia, Whatever the term pussie falls under
Episode 1 TL;DR: We meet everyone, learn their dynamics, have the basics of the magic system beat into us, meet our monsters, and name drop Harry Potter. Standard first episode stuff.
I do want it on record before we start that I got about halfway into the first season of Riverdale, and the first season of Netflix Sabrina. They were, well, bland and boring imo? I did get through a few seasons of Teen Wolf, but that's because it was capable of Fun and Jokes. My current expectations are a few unintentionally funny lines, maybe some almost decent magic effects, and because it's 2021, one whole gay character (I did hear one of the boys (there are boys?) is bi, but also an asshole so I'm hoping for some wlw)
TV-MA LANGUAGE AND SMOKING OH FUCKING BOY Almost full moon (waxing) in opening shot- I Will be tracking moon inconsistencies if it keeps showing up that is a pet peeve but hey look a bunch of sheep That's a good start (it's ominous though. don't hurt the sheep) Swears count: Feckin' 2 Mystical portal barrier. Oh yeah s5 of the magicians is on netflix now WELP THOSE ARE SHEEP GUTS RIGHT OUT THE GATE HUH For CW it's up a tree, and the dripping blood is a good warning of what's about to be seen :( oh and then the man who was looking for the sheep dies offscreen save for a spray of blood. THIS ISN'T YOUR CHILD'S WINX CLUB it seems to say. I assume. How much blood was in the original winx because this is already at least a full cup. (Also the monster noises for whatever was chasing the man (werewolf it was a werewolf trailers are bad guys) were not very good)
Opening credit scene is 5-6 different blooming elemental wings. They're pretty, but it's unclear if the last one is secret 6th member wings (because the second to last ones are fire which is the main character's element right?) so maybe we'll get a late 6th addition? (I am in I.T. please give me the most relatable character you cowards)
KIDS IN THE CORNER BY AMBER VAN DAY PLAYING I like where they shot this but that might just be european woods pretty. The opening location was nice and mossy save for the sheep blood Fancy big stone school establishing shots (it's nice, and huge) and we land on a red head who seems less than pleased to be here Courtyard shot of... whatever the name of the replacment plant girl is, holding a tray of various potted plants for an older man (father? first day of school send off maybe?) Aisha(?) walks by, not talking to anyone, Stella(?) is taking Magical!Selfies with at least 3 other girls, Musa(?) has a suitcase and headphones and smiles at a passing girl Oh boy a boy with a pocketknife doing little tricks with it! Nothing says edgy like an actual knife edge. Gonna take this moment to point out I have some level of face blindness and while the girls all look fairly different from one another, if there is more than one tall blonde white boy as I fear there may be, I WILL NOT be able to tell them apart. Not through maliciousness, just general incompetence, so anything I say about the boy characters (I want to say they're the knights to the girl's faeries? is that right? this whole thing smacks of gender) should be taken with a heap of salt I've come to accept tv just. displaying text messages on screen as a storytelling method. It's never my favorite but it just Is a modern story element. Also Bloom needs to meet stella at the alfea gates Alfea I presume is the school- does the name mean something? It sure feels like the word elf and therefore fae but I don't feel like googling anything this early in Oh look two more blondish tall white boys. Pocketknife was wearing something else i think, one guy has a brown jacket and pink shirt (bad combo), the other looks old even by tv highschool/college standards and his jacket has a jock vibe. Jock jacket also has an earring? Is this the bi character who is an asshole? From this one second of him, only in profile, I will assume yes, he is an asshole I like Bloom's backpack Pink shirt looks at Bloom from across the quad. I am already tired of this romance Cool he walks up to someone he has identified as lost, and is 'impressed with [her] confidence in the face of complete ignorance' COMING OUT OF THE GATE WITH A NEGG HUH PINKY He even states he wasn't offering help Then Why Are You Talking To Her Jackass Subs are going with the fairy spelling, and Bloom confirms she is a fairy and we confirm this is College. Unless this is a european thing where they call schools different things. I think that's just for public and private? And maybe just england? I'm American all they teach us is 1492-ww1 over and over for like. 10 years sorry Rest of the World 'What Realm are you from?' 'California' Speaking of ameri-centric, I'm gonna Guess that original Winx, the italian cartoon, didn't have their main character be from cali usa? I am presuming this is a side effect of making this property for a more global distribution than I'm guessing winx was originally conceived as back in the early 00s The Otherworld. I assume this is the fairy realm and whatnot? And the magic school. Seems to be located behind a magical barrier in the earth realm?? If that's right it seems weird if basically everyone who goes to the school is from the otherworld Pinky doubles down on his rudeness but in a Fun and Cute way because :/ and the Specialist hall is Very Pretty, oh and there's a fairy hall. Are specialists the boy...things? magi knights? bros of the blade? guys who wear those 'here come a special boy' sneakers from that one comic? Stella sees this conversation which is great because they drop the term mansplain. why would otherworlders know that term even??? Edgey(?) sees Pinky and they hug it out Stella knows Americans are the type to wander off so I guess there's a lot of inter-world connections?
Miss Dowling- is this teacher going to be like the pedo in riverdale who got *checks notes* killed off by one of multiple serial killers later on? Dowling is the headmistress, gotta keep the otherworld a secret from earthers, time and place for portal making. all standard fantasy stuff so far, nothing to make this stand out Stella has a gateway ring, and frankly isn't too nice? all the backgrounders clothing is Bland and very normal 7 realms of the otherworld, Solaria is where Alfea is, i like magic globe Incase you forgot this was a modern tale, people update their insta stories here. 'I was kindof bummed I didn't see a single pair of wings' YOU AND ME BOTH BLOOM 'We had wings in the past, transformation was lost, tinkerbell was an air fairy' This is either a cop out for your glittery cowardice, or a set up for the main girls re-finding transformation magic later. I did like the Tink bit Bloom is a fire fairy and the subtext of this conversation is that bloom's magic did Something bad. I hope it was burn down her old school's gym a la buffy movie I like miss Dowling but in the I wouldn't Be Surprised if you turned out to be Evil way, and I guess Alfea is a very privileged upper crust school. What types of college do normal fairies go to then huh? damn privileged fairies 'our students have gone on to do amazing things like re-discover long lost magics' We Get It. You will give me Wings, but Only If I'm Patient Dowling throws a jab at Bloom about power control, but I like her necklace so It's Fine
Bloom video calls her parents while unpacking in the dorm, which may have come pre-fit with a heck ton of board games? Love it. Or new plant girl brought them along with her many plants Stella has a fancy mirror and lots of jewelry and fashion photos and makeup, Musa has a laptop and apparently not much else, gotta get those establishing personalities down I guess 'Ladies of the Flies honey don't be sexist' Bloom's dad for feminist of the year (these jokes are bad but i guess we can call it a dad joke as justification) Asiha gives Bloom a look and saves her from the call with her parents- yay friendship step one achieved Blooms parents think she's in the alps because magic secrets and what not Aisha asks bloom if she's never read harry potter and I guess Bloom is a potterhead (that's the term right?). Is this self awareness that all magical school fantasy series have the same basic bricks? Bloom is a ravenclaw sometimes slytherin, Aisha is a Gryffindor Stella is changing because she's the fashion one and has a fun pastel rainbow skirt, and uses magic to make a real aggressive lamp. She's also a mentor (maybe older than the others by a bit?) I am assuming Stella here is something along the lines of a diplomats daughter the way she talks about appearances. She better get down and dirty later on to show her growth about how some things are more important than looks yada yada Fairy magic powered by strong emotions, i am waiting for bloom's backstory to be movie x-men rogue style tragedy Terra! Which. Of course is the Plant Fairy's name. Stella is a little mean to her about the plants and she takes it with a smile and some subtle snark back using classic literature Oh that's fun Terra points out the name-plant thing, and name drops her cousin Flora. That's. The one they replaced with Terra right? Terra's dad works in the greenhouse at the school which explains earlier (and her mum is named rose) Stella is indeed a second year and Musa's eyes change for. Lie detecting magic? and loves her headphones (Overstimulation?) Aisha wants somewhere to swim and we cut to a 'pond' by specialist training. Assuming she wants to sim because she's a water fairy, why Don't they have a pool? also this pond looks. Unpleasant for swimming
Girl specialist! Does that mean we have boy fairies? Boys. Fighting. Talking about girls. All gingers are nuts. Thanks edgelord AMAZING SHAGS THOUGH 'I didn't realize your hand was a red-head' it's not truly edge if we don't talk about sex every 10 minutes Subtitles earlier only said boy 1 boy 2 but now pinky or edgy is Riv Edgy smokes weed, and pinky is a big brother figure to him, and the head? of the special boys doesn't like edgy. Me neither older guy Bit of swordplay, more girls, every specialist has black training outfits, very military Pinky is Sky who is son of Guy of Place. an important lad. without context this is meaningless to me There's a giggly boy who laughs at the idea of a war in the future and gets a talking to. I suspect this boy will be re-occurring enough to die- he has those tertiary character elements with his intro and such (and he's black so I am prepared for your standard racist murder choices) Burned Ones exist outside the barrier, which makes me wonder if dead shepard was in the otherworld? There was nothing establishing that he was in any type of Other place but :/ Oh look edgey is having a smoke cross the barrier while we learn about the creatures that live beyond it. Time to find out these creatures no one young has ever seen are still kicking Specialist leader had to kill his own pa after a burned one got him. They also. Used a shotgun when trying to fight it. Do specialists even have powers or are they just good with weapons? Edgey finds the shepards corpse. Mostly blood 'it's been 16 years since the last sighting' 'Rosalind killed all the burned ones' ahh magical creature genocide hey when is abarat 4 coming out. and is rosalind hot?
School, gossip, Aisha and Musa are snarking at Tera for thinking the guy died of natural causes because we need to have these characters not actually like each other to make it stand out when they do Aisha talks about how she eats a lot and if she didn't swim she'd be massive and we cut to the plus sized tera looking uncomfortable are we really doing this? Tera points out that Musa was ignoring her earlier and it's all just uncomfortable and not great character conflict (but I thought I saw Musa holding an honest to god ipod? it's blue but it could be a phone case. Her hand is in the way) tera and dad interaction is nice, i'm also convinced they couldn't afford more than 3 magic adults
Girl with braids and metal in her hair! There were witches in winx right? Like 3 minor antagonist girls? I assume this is one of them. Because she has alternative fashion and is therefore evil /s Beatrix. Names in this series leave something to be desired (that something is subtly. I get it, they're carry overs from a series for a younger audience, she-ra had the same issue, but i can still poke fun) Swear count: Arsehole 2 Bollocks 1 Shit 1 She's a weird ass kissing with clearly ulterior motives
Bloom is Studying and her notebook is just FAIRY MAGIC POWER = EMOTIONS LOVE FEAR? HARTED? SO! A week or two ago I got the DVDs for both seasons of "Justice League: The Animated Series", which I hadn't seen in ten years and remembered loving a lot. Spoiler: I still love it a lot. I put off watching it for a while because I was scared I wouldn't, but then I watched it pretty much straight through without even stopping to liveblog.
So. THOUGHTS! ^_^ Any of y'all who've ever shared a fandom with me know I'm always around for one particular character. In this case, that's J'onn J'onzz, the big green guy, whose official comics codename (sensibly not used on the show) is Martian Manhunter.
(There's a bit in one of the tie-in comics where a parent is telling their kid "don't be scared, honey, he won't hurt you, that's the uhh... Martian Maneater..." which has never ceased to amuse me.)
Anyway, we all know I have a tendency to give reviews in the vein of "Good story but no werewolves", and it must be granted that I never did bother watching Justice League Unlimited because Carl Lumbly (J'onn's voice actor, Minnesota born and raised with Jamaican parents, which is apparently how you get a Martian accent I couldn't place to anywhere on Earth) wasn't a regular anymore. But y'know, it's a really good ensemble team too, even if I like Tim Daly's Superman (from Superman: The Animated Series in the same animated universe) a lot better than George Newbern's. Or, well, I did. I haven't heard *him* in ten years either. Anyway! Off topic.
SO ANYWAY. Obviously, spoilers hereabouts, although it's what, fifteen, twenty years old by now? But if you care about spoilers for somewhat elderly TV, you might not be following me anyhow.
So the meta premise, just in case anybody was unfamiliar, is thuswise: First there was Batman: The Animated Series, in which Mark Hamill was the best Joker while not being an asshole as a person, because he is a competent actor and not a dickwad. Then there was Superman: The Animated Series, which I remember as being a delight and I want to watch it again too someday. Then, because apparently if you have Batman and Superman the next step is the entire Justice League, there was this.
The actual premise is, that during an alien invasion of Earth, Superman and Batman rescue a prisoner, J'onn J'onzz, the last survivor of the Martian society the invader aliens wiped out. (J'onn and Clark get little bits of bonding over the last-of-their-kinds thing but I've always wanted more. In a fandom auction I once donated $60 for a fic on the topic, but life happened and I do not hold it against the person. Still a little sad though. It's not something I've ever quite been able to write myself.) J'onn has a whole grab-bag of superpowers including telepathy, with which he summons additional heroes The Flash (speedster, this one is twentyish goofball Wally West), Green Lantern (specifically John Stewart, a black ex-Marine), Wonder Woman, and Hawkgirl (a winged humanoid-alien woman with an energy mace). Together, they fight crime! Mostly.
Specific episodes: I'm going to use "episode" to refer to the runtime covered by a single title so I don't have to say "two-parter" or "three-parter" every single time, because this show had literally only one single-part episode out of the whole 52 episodes.
* Secret Origins, three-parter: In which the Justice League is formed and repels the invasion of Earth by the aliens who wiped out J'onn's people. A very strong start, good character intros. I will never be over the very small worldbuilding fact that J'onn is rescued by Superman and Batman, and has seen nobody else on Earth yet but invader aliens (these are what used to be called the White Martians but the show does not use this name either which I think was a wise choice), so when he shapeshifts from his more alien "natural" Martian form to the look which will be his default for the series, he chooses a briefs-and-cape look because based on the two examples he's seeing, that's what Earth people wear. It's not explicitly called out, but it's a great way to make it a little less... comic-booky that you have no less than three extra-beefy guys with almost identical costume silhouettes here.
I think the arc between Batman and J'onn is one of my favorite parts of this, the way Batman starts out being like "I still don't trust him" and winds up trusting him enough that it's their teamwork which saves the world this go-round. Also, speaking as a fan who likes me some whump, can we talk about the scene where J'onn is being mindprobed with all those tentacles under his skin? I have so fucking many feels about that scene, okay. God, that whole climactic sequence is so damn good. And his tiny lil smile at the end of the last episode! I do love me some microexpressions, nonetheless that they are animated. (I can't draw so I am constantly boggled by just the skill it has to take to draw a character so on-model that varying one line by a few pixels Says Things.)
* In Blackest Night, two-parter: The one where the extremely Kirby-designed cop robots frame Green Lantern into believing he blew up an inhabited planet. Introduces several alien members of the Green Lantern Corps. Flash trying and failing to act as GL's lawyer is fairly embarrassment-squicky to me; many of the things anybody does with Flash on this show are fairly embarrassment-squicky, although he does get some great moments. RenĂŠ Auberjonois does two voices, as a spherical Green Lantern and as the "witness" who helps frame GL. The climactic scene is great -- sometimes the Green Lantern ditty just doesn't work, but between the sound design and the animation and Phil Lamarr's voice acting, this scene blows me away every time. I feel like this one could have been shorter though.
* The Enemy Below, two-parter: In which (blond) Aquaman guest-stars, J'onn takes on the first of many roles where he acts as bait by impersonating a villain's target, and the thing where Aquaman cuts off his own hand to escape a manacle is very tastefully handled for a kids' show. I probably would have found that scene way too suspenseful and traumatic as a kid but I was an extremely sensitive small child. Opinions on this episode: I don't really have many. This universe's Aquaman is a *dick* who appears to live by the rule that you must always fight a superhero when you meet one on the street before explaining your business. I always squee when somebody turns out to be J'onn, because I've usually forgotten. (He usually is people and not animals or, like Odo more than once, a bag. I wonder if he has some conservation of mass thing going on or if it's just easier to animate when you keep your same basic arrangement of limbs.)
* Injustice for All, two-parter: Lex Luthor, dying of kryptonite poisoning, puts together the Injustice Gang to try to destroy the Justice League. He didn't invite the Joker, but Hulk expy and heavy hitter Solomon Grundy is also voiced by Mark Hamill, so the Joker naturally turns up around the point where Luthor captures Batman, commentating on Luthor's misguidedness in keeping Bats alive and generally providing a running peanut gallery. Clancy Brown and Mark Hamill are both always fun, so this one is pretty entertaining.
* Paradise Lost: Wonder Woman backstory-ish episode. A sorcerer turns the other Amazons to stone, then blackmails Diana into stealing four artifacts for him, which he assembles into a key to free the god Hades from Tartarus. Notable mainly for the extreme mangling of Greek mythic cosmology into an aggressively Christian shape. Not good. It does have J'onn and Flash teamed for a bit, which is interesting, and J'onn gets to one-punch a giant magic brass cobra, but that's about all there is to speak for it. It looks like the writer also did my very least favorite two-parter of the whole series, unless this is some sort of Alan Smithee situation, because the name is Joseph Kuhr and I have a half-memory I can't catch that there is *something* more than coincidence in the whole, you know. "Joe-Kuhr" thing?
* War World: Apparently this one was pretty nearly universally hated. I do not hate it, because the concept "Superman and J'onn are accidentally blown across the galaxy together and sold to an alien gladiatorial arena" is something I am 110% down for, but I wanted a lot more interaction between them and possibly a lot more fic. I can't decide if I actually want to ship them, but they're obviously very close and I want to see more than snippets of that, dammit.
That's halfway through season one. Imma go sleep. more later.

True Blood Season 1 Review Part 1 (Spoilers Ahead)
Itâs been about 2 years since I first saw season 1. Contrary to the hundreds of GIFs and posts that Iâve reblogged about True Blood, Iâm a lot more familiar with the later seasons of the show than I am with the first season. When I first viewed season 1, it didnât click with me, and the only reason I sat through it is because I had seen clips from season 2 that convinced me the show was worth watching. Iâm not someone who usually gets into the vampire genre (aside for a brief period of time when I was in middle school), but something about True Blood hooked me in and got me to watch it. I canât say that itâs a show I completely love, but I am inspired to talk about it.
In any case, Iâm doing a rewatch for the first time as a way of getting closure on this show, and maybe moving on so that it isnât in the back of my head all the time. I also wanted to view the show with fresh eyes, and see if my opinions changed while watching it.
This review will be split into 2 parts because Iâm realizing that I have a lot to say about season 1, and itâs gonna get lengthy. Part 1 will just focus on my general opinion about the season. Part 2 (which will be posted a few days from now) will focus on my thoughts about how the vampires ar portrayed on the show.
Overall, my opinion about season 1 improved a little bit during rewatch. Itâs not my favorite season of television (and Lord knows there are issues with it), but itâs a lot better than I remember it being. The casting is stellar, and I didnât have any problems with the actors or how they played their characters. The interactions between the characters kept me engaged even when the main story started to drag (more on that in a minute).
While re-watching season 1, I was surprised to pick up on some subtle aspects that had been planted by the writers in season 1 that I missed the first time around, and that would come into play in the later seasons. For instance:
Sookie mentioning that her cousin Hadley had been missing for over a year since she ran away from the rehab center that Gran paid for, and that she didnât know how to get hold of her (all of which makes sense come season 2).
The appearance of Theodore Newlin (Steve Newlinâs father), his subsequent death in the 3rd episode, and Steve Newlin taking the reigns of the Fellowship of the Sun
Bill warning Malcom, Liam, and Diane that he knew of âhigher authoritiesâ than Eric, and Diane saying âWell she can suck on sunlight for all I careâ (All references to Queen Sophie Anne).
Diane mentioning that Bill âused to be funâ and that he had a very âsizable appetite.â Also, the reference to Bill having a sexual relationship with Diane in the 1930s (which is around the time he left Lorena).Â
Jason telling Amy about how his parents died, and how he felt responsible for it (the death of their parents becomes a major plot point later on).
Thereâs a lot to be said about the way the later seasons handled its arcs, but I think the writers were planting seeds in season 1 for future stories and twists that would be revealed down the road. Some of them were capitalized on. Others werenât.Â
I will say for the record that I firmly believe the twist about Bill that gets revealed in season 3 was planned by Alan Ball and the other writers from the beginning of the show, and it does color the way I view Billâs character and his relationship with Sookie, even in season 1. I should also point out that one particular aspect of the season 3 twist came directly from the books (and those who have read them know what Iâm talking about here), so thereâs that. Again, Iâll go more into detail about the Bill/Sookie relationship and my thoughts on it as I go through this rewatch.
In regards to the main story about a serial killer coming to Bon Temps and Sookie trying to figure out who it is, I will admit that not only did I NOT find this story engaging anymore, I thought it DRAGGED and should have been resolved within 6-7 episodes as opposed to 12. Itâs a lot less thrilling when you already know who the killer is, and while there are some nice clues and red herrings that get dropped, the constant attempts at misdirection (like that scene when Sam goes over to Dawnâs house and sniffs her sheets, or Jason consistently being framed for murder) feels time-consuming instead of fun. It doesnât help that the story loses momentum halfway through the season, and gets bogged down by all these other subplots that donât connect to it at all.Â
Also, I didnât pick up on this the first time, but rewatching has helped me realize there are some irritating plot holes with the story I couldnât overlook. For instance:
In one scene, Sam goes to Dawn's house to sniff around and pick up Rene's scent. Later on, heâs at Granâs house after Gran died where he also should have identified that same scent since Rene climbed through the window. And considering that Rene spent a huge amount of time at Merlotte's and interacted with Sam on many occasions, Sam should have been easily able to associate Rene's scent with the scents he found at the crime scene, and figured out early on that Rene was the killer. So why does it take him so long to connect two and two when Sam already knows what Rene smells like?
Likewise, it's been established that vampires have a good sense of smell. Bill was around Rene in several scenes, and should have been able to pick up his scent at Gran's house after she was murdered. So how come this doesn't happen?
On top of that, when Bill gets interrogated by Andy and Bud about Gran's murder, he claims that he heard a car (most likely Rene's) pulling up across the cemetery to Gran's house. He also claims that vampires had heightened senses. However, when Sookie finally reads Rene's mind in the season finale, it's shown that Gran screams and Rene shouts at her before killing her. So if Bill could hear Rene driving up to Gran's house.................then how come he didn't hear Rene and Gran shouting at one another before Gran got killed?
For that matter, why did Rene go over to Granâs house in the first place? He knew that Sookie was going on a date with Sam. He saw them leave the church together, and he had no idea when Sookie was going to be back. It came off like really poor planning on his part for someone whoâs been methodical about how he killed people up to this point.
Also, why didnât Rene throw away the video he took from Maudetteâs house, as well as the tape on bulding a Cajun accent? That seems incredibly stupid leaving that stuff around from someone (like Arleneâs kids) to find, especially since he no longer had use for that stuff.
Thereâs also the way Sookieâs mind reading abilities work. I thought the way that was handled was not only inconsistent, but that it also didnât make sense how she didnât pick up on Rene being the killer in the first place. Everything about that screamed âplot convenience.â
The other thing I noticed is that a lot of the problems that fans complain about in the later seasons (added side-plots, deviating from the books, added supernatural creatures, plot holes, inconsistent mythology, characters making stupid decisions, the focus on vampire politics, the problems with the Bill/Sookie relationship, etc) can all be traced back to season 1. To give a few examples:
There were a BUNCH of side-plots in season 1, from the Jason/Eddie/Amy arc to Taraâs exorcism and her conflicting relationship with Lettie Mae to Lafayetteâs hook-up with the closeted gay senator to Samâs backstory to Billâs trial and so on. I didnât have an issue with this because I get the idea was to do world-building and show different sides to the characters (if anything, I found the side-plots more interesting than the main story), but I always find it odd that one of the biggest complaints about the later seasons was the added side-plots and how people couldnât follow them. Frankly, I thought they were pretty easy to follow, and could even be engaging at times.
Even in season 1, the show introduced other supernatural creatures besides vampires. Sam was revealed as a shapeshifter, Maryann was introduced as this unknown entity (and would later be revealed to be a Maenad), Sam mentioned the existence of werewolves to Sookie, and even Sookie was implied to be a supernatural herself because of her ability to read minds. Add in the fact that the books had a plethora of other supernatural creatures (werepanthers, faeries, demons, witches, etc) that were bound to be introduced, and I think itâs pretty fair to say that this show wasnât always going to stay âgrounded in realismâ like some people complain it should have been.
Vampire politics was always there from the beginning: The show was NOT subtle about its âvampires as a metaphor for oppressed minoritiesâ message that it kept shoving out there (and again, I will talk more about that in my part 2 review because thereâs a lot to be said about they way vampires are portrayed on this show). Characters like Nan Flannigan and Steve Newlin were introduced in season 1 (albeit regulated to TV) as well as organizations like the American Vampire League (AVL) and the Fellowship of the Sun (FOTS). There was already a conflict within the vampire community between vampires who mainstreamed and vampires who wanted to keep killing humans like theyâd done in the past. Billâs trial gave an extremely ugly look into how vampires dispensed justice among their own kind. And there were constant references to the VRA (Vampire Rights Amendment). This show was pretty clear from the beginning that the driving force behind this story was about whether or not vampires could integrate into human society and co-exist peacefully with humans.
Also, in addition to the added side-plots, we also had the expansion of characters like Lafayette (whose character was completely different from the books) and the introduction of Jessica (who wasnât in the books at all). Basically, this show was already beginning to deviate from the books even before the later seasons happened.Â
The way V works in this universe is all over the place. For some people (like Jason and Amy) it acts like an LSD drug, whereas with Sookie, it just gives her heightened senses and dreams about Bill. Lafayette does briefly tell Jason that V has different effects depending on the individual, so maybe this really isnât a plot-hole. However, at the same time, it just feels like V was whatever the writers wanted it to be. In other words, inconsistent mythology was already a thing in season 1.Â
As for characters doing stupid stuff, this came as a surprise to me as well, but it isnât just limited to Jason. Some examples include:
Tara deciding to drive drunk down the road in the middle of the night while downing a bottle of Vodka (and later getting arrested for it).
Sam sleeping on the same bed as Sookie in dog form, even though he knew (or should have known) that he could transform back into human form while sleeping, and Sookie would see him naked (which is exactly what happens).
Lafayette deciding itâs a good idea to sell Jason V instead of just giving Jason the Viagra he requested in the first place.
Bill letting Diane, Malcom, and Liam into his house when he knew Sookie was coming over to give him the numbers for the electrician. Also it was pretty stupid of him to not consider how Diane, Liam, and Malcom would react to seeing Sookie, or whether or not Sookie would be scared off by the way those three were acting.
Bill deciding itâs a good idea to mouth-off to The Magister about mainstreaming when a.) It is painfully obvious that the Magister doesnât care about seeing humans as equals, and b.) Bill stands the risk of angering the Magister and making his situation worse than it already is.
Andyâs insistence that Jason is good for the murders without considering all of the evidence, and his refusal to admit heâs wrong. That, and he sucks as a cop.
Sookie using the gun to attack Rene, run out of the house................and then throw the gun into the bushes instead of keeping it as a weapon to defend herself.
Bill choosing not to erase the bite marks on Sookie, which could have made her a target for other people who hated fangbangers (although itâs debatable whether or not this was stupidity on Billâs part or if this was done intentionally).Â
And Iâm sure there are plenty of other examples, but my point is that Jason isnât the only one making stupid decisions here. Again, YMMV on whether or not a characterâs stupidity makes sense in the context of the story, or if it just screams âplot convenience,â but it was there. It seems like Jason gets made the scapegoat by fans for everything that was wrong with the first season whereas the problems with other characters/stories get ignored because of inherent biases in the fandom.
I know it sounds like Iâm ragging on this season, and I guess in some ways I am because Iâve long been tired of the constant bashing of the later seasons, as well as the excessive hate that gets directed at some of my favorite characters (Jason and Tara) while everyone consistently ignores the other problems with characters and stories that existed as far back as season 1. I am being genuine when I say that season 1 had its moments (the Tara and Lafayette moments were probably the highlights of that season) and it was better than I remember it, but itâs not a favorite of mine. I donât really see myself going back to rewatch season 1 as often as the other season. And if it had been the only season of True Blood they made, I probably never would have watched it again. Like I said, something about season 1 just didnât work for me, and I think a lot of that has to do with the show placing more emphasis on the characterâs flaws over their redeeming qualities. It was season 2 rectified this and helped to soften the characters in a way where I cared about them.Â
Stay tuned for Part 2 where Iâll give my opinions on how I think the show handled vampires.Â

So... Shadow and Bone
Ok, this will contain spoilers for the show, so if you donât want to know, donât read ahead.Â
-Ok, first things first, holy shit. Holy shit I canât deal. I laughed and smiled my entire way through because everyone was just so perfect.Â
-The casting stood out to me immediately. I mean we all knew that they were amazing when we first saw them, but seeing them on screen was just something else.
-Adding Alinaâs backstory was a bit huh? Like they made her half-Shu, and that was pretty cool I guess but it was just kind of there. Also, I donât remember that in the books, so if it was mentioned there then thatâs cool but I just donât remember it at all so.
-The Crows. The motherfucking Crows. I honestly think combining the two shows was the greatest decision they made because the Crows just lit up the screen everytime they appeared. Donât get me wrong here, I love Shadow and Bone, but by itself I just think it would have been kind of weak.Â
-Kazâs introduction. Jesperâs introduction. Inejâs introduction. They were all brilliant. I adore them.Â
-Kazâs cane. Thatâs it. I want one.
-The backstories on all of the characters felt kind of flat to me tbh, mostly because there werenât really any. They briefly explained Inejâs connection to the Menagerie (which was an interesting choice to still have her there imo) but apart from that there wasnât much. Kazâs backstory wasnât mentioned at all and I think I only realised his not liking to be touched thing because I was a fan. Jesperâs backstory was just non-existent. Of course Alina, Mal and the Darklingâs were there as well but apart from that I didnât really feel like I knew anyone all that well.
-Kaz and Inej were just- yeah. It was literally so understated. Like in the books I didnât realise they were meant to be a thing until like halfway through, when they were on the boat, but in the show I just didnât realise at all. There were flashes of it all throughout but because Kaz is an idiot of course he didnât say anything. I thought it was nice but I did miss a lot of those iconic lines. (I wished they had developed their relationship enough to get to the âI will have you with armour, Kaz Brekkerâ line because thatâs my favourite.)
-Jesper. Jesper. Jesper. Kit was SO GOOD. Jesper was honestly my favourite part of the show. He was perfect in every scene he had and I was so so happy to see how well Kit did. Also, when they said that you would definitely know Jesper was bi and I held out hope that maybe it would be mentioned briefly but then he hooked up with a guy? Man, I almost cried.
-I do miss Wylan though. So, so much.
-Nina and Matthias were... well, they were perfect, obviously. The dynamic between Danielle and Calahan was just amazing, but I was kind of confused. If youâd read the books you would understand Ninaâs importance and why we cared so much about her but the show just didnât develop that as well, which was a shame. It felt a little out of place amidst all the other action, but I guess it worked out in the end with Nina on the ship to Ketterdam with the Crows and Matthias on to Hellgate.Â
-The scenes with them walking were just perfect. I only just reread the books the other day and the dialogue was exactly the same. Nina, my wife, I would die for you.
-Kazâs hair.
-Milo.
-Maybe itâs just all of the edits, but I couldnât stop making fun of the Darkling. Every time he came on screen I would make some sort of comment. My favourite was during the Darkling/Kaz face-off (the Darkling/Kaz face-off!!!!!) and I couldnât stop thinking about how the Darkling got bested by a seventeen year old with PTSD.Â
-They made me like Mal. They fucking made me like Mal. Archie was so good.Â
-The thing I liked about Mal and Alina more so than in the books was that the set-up to their relationship was so much better. You could so clearly see that Mal already had feelings for Alina and he just didnât realise and I thought that it was really really sweet the way they carried it out. Thank you Jessie and Archie.
-Genya, Zoya, Marie and Nadia were just perfect. When Marie died I cried a little. Also Zoya being there at the very end of the show with the rest of them made me laugh, idk why it just did.
-Seeing the SAB and SOC characters on screen together was just so odd. Not in a bad way, just in a really weird way like worlds colliding.
-Inejâs relationship with her religion and especially Alina was so perfect. I cried when she saw Alina use her power for the first time. The look on her face, I- someone protect this girl.
-I also cried when the stag died. That was just awful. I loved that stag.Â
-I do admit that Darklina is just... so hot. Like woah. Just woah.
-Genya and David. Yes.
-So I know exactly where theyâre going with Alina and Malâs storyline, with the destroying the Fold and everything, but I have no idea how the Crows are going to be incorporated into that. Like, if we get a season two, what are they going to do? Smuggle her into Ravka? Again?Â
-I had to do an in conclusion for myself last night but it didnât work so Iâll do one now: the Crows are headed back to Ketterdam with Nina and Matthias on board and Nina and the Crows have just met and are going to ally up I think. Alina and Mal are also headed to Ketterdam instead of Novyi Zem (?). Zoya is still in Ravka, the Darkling is alive and emerged dramatically from the Fold in basically the same vicinity as Zoya, Genya and David and the rest of them are back in East Ravka and Nikolai and Wylan are nowhere to be found.
-(Will I ever get over two of my favourite characters in the entire Grishaverse not being in the first season of the show? No, no I will not.)
TL:DR the show was amazing. I loved how true it was to most aspects of the books. I thought the cast was just perfect and I loved everyone. I really really hope they get a season two.Â
