sterek goes so hard bc it is basically two traumatised in different ways kids who are plunged into more ongoing trauma and have to learn very quickly to trust each other. like, they are thrown together by their situation, yes, but them pairing up in the way that they do isn't entirely by chance bc despite the initial bickering etc there is a lot of decency of character going on in their interactions, and them both having to very quickly decide whether or not they should foster loyalties, and trusting each other early on might be their only option but becoming friends is not. and this decision pays off in spades bc altho they are very different beings with differing traits they are also incredibly similar; two sides of the same coin, you might say. and i think they discover that even tho they are opposites in some respects, they are the type of opposites that absolutely complement each othersʼ personalities and strengths and weaknesses, so perfectly that they end up coming together like magnets despite everything that could've gone against them. bc once you realise you have found the one person who gets it like nobody else does, and you are able to communicate via mere body language and hilarious conversations with eyebrows, and can give each other shit while taking each othersʼ shit, and be as sarcastic or deadpan as you like, and become quietly and then very obviously supportive of each other, and become each othersʼ anchor, then each others everything else, you're then able to understand each other on such an inherently base yet heightened weird and wonderfully special level that it is just so, so magical and so, so beautiful that it's like the universe must've intended it, but you know that it isn't actually fate or destiny or anything else like that bc it's actually just two people who chose each other every time, again and again and again.
