Saint Gwen of Talgarth
463-492
Feast Day: October 18
Saint Gwen (Wenna), holy virgin and martyr, was born in Wales. She was very fond of her brother, St. Nectan and followed him to Cornwall to be near his hermitage.  She established several churches and chapels in Devon and Cornwall, including St Wenn, St Kew and Cheristow. When returning to Talgarth to visit her family she was murdered by the heathen Saxons who were attacking the town, thus receiving her martyr’s crown at age 29.

A Bit on Music in Endeavour
A favorite musical moment in Endeavour is at around 04min45s in Scherzo (S8E2) where you hear Wagner’s Prelude to Act III of Tristan und Isolde. Morse has it going on his record player while he dresses for work. We’ve just come off of the first episode of S8 and we’ve seen the degree to which he is starting to fall apart. He’s a mess really. Perfect time for some Wagner.
If you don’t know about Wagner, he was a horrible human being, but an innovative composer. Tristan und Isolde, in particular, is considered a real turning point in composition because of its very intentional use of dissonance. It’s so significant, in fact, that the very first chord you hear in this piece is actually referred to as the “Tristan chord”—one of only about a dozen or so “named” chords in the western musical canon.
The chord just…aches. There’s a really intense urge to hear it move on to its harmonic resolution. You want it to get better!
And this particular prelude is at the beginning of Act III, so if you know the opera, you start to picture it in your mind…
…As Act III opens, Tristan is lies mortally wounded. His faithful servant waits for the arrival of Isolde, the only one who has the power to heal Tristan. A shepherd lad has been instructed to signal the servant by playing a tune on his pipes when the ship carrying Isolde is sighted. They wait, listening. Surely help will arrive in time to save the dying man…
Nope. It’s Gwen.
Another favorite is in Neverland at about 15min. Monica and Morse are in a cozy, domestic scene. He’s doing the crossword. She’s darning a sock. She asks if he’s happy and somewhere along the line you realize that they’re listening to the beginning of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion (basically a musical retelling of the crucifixion). By the first time I saw that episode, I’d learned enough about how they used music in the series to guess that things were about to go very, very wrong. There actually was going to be a crucifixion of sorts.
There are so many instances where they use music (both classical—and if you you are lucky enough to be watching the UK versions—popular as well) to either foreshadow or pull a bait-and-switch or to reference another work or otherwise give a scene additional layers of meaning.
It’s just beautifully done—but it’s also done gently. It’s done in such a way that those not “in the know” aren’t left on the outside. There’s nothing crucial that you’re going to miss out on, but at the same time it’s great fun when you see it.

Hobie Brown can fall asleep anywhere.
This is something they all find out within weeks of knowing him. And it's not just anywhere, but also at any time and in any place, and even in any position. Be it in an alleyway at dusk, tires screeching and horns blaring nearby, or on a rooftop at dawn, the emerging sunrays prickling their eyes; be it while sitting or standing or perched against a wall, Hobie can and likely will fall asleep.
(And that is against the wall, by the way. Not on top of it – against it vertically, his spider powers keeping his feet and back stuck to the brick like a gargoyle.
Miles has only seen that particular position once, but it'll rent a space in his mind forever. Hobie had been completely silent and still, his slackened jaw and deep breaths the only hints of his unwakefulness.
It hadn't lasted long, a noise in the distance soon waking him up, his head snapping toward it as he blinked the bleariness from his eyes. Miles was as awed as he was annoyed with how impressive it looked.)
So, yes. They've all seen Hobie sleep, though never deeply or for long.
Until now.
They didn't notice it right away, because it started as subtly and silently as always. Also, they have a pretty good movie playing and several bowls of snacks to gorge on. That's why it takes a soft snore for them to realize Hobie is sprawled out on the couch behind them, fast asleep. He's too big to fit, his feet hanging out past the armrest and one arm dangling over the edge, his hand resting on the carpet. His mouth is wide open, drool pooling in the folds of the throw pillow next to his cheek, which is pressed against the patterned fabric – he's going to wake up with lines all over his face.
The three of them share an amused look; Pavitr giggles and Gwen coos, only slightly condescendingly. Then they turn back to the movie, intending to let Hobie sleep. None of them want to sit on the couch anyway, and the snores aren't loud enough to be a bother.
At least, not at first. At first, they're but gentle kitten snores mixed with the occasional grumble. But then the volume increases.
And increases.
And increases.
Soon, they may as well have a chainsaw felling trees behind them. They turn around again, incredulous. Hobie is as peaceful as when they last looked, the size of the drool puddle the only change. And, of course, the snoring. It rumbles, it roars, it rattles the windows.
One particularly loud snort has Pavitr guffawing; he smacks a hand to his mouth while Miles and Gwen shush him. Hobie remains undisturbed. Apparently, faint back alley noises wake him but loud laughter doesn't.
(Pav's laughter doesn't.)
They catch each other's eyes, crinkling at the corners, and come to a silent agreement. Hobie's thundering drowns out even the action scenes and it is way past midnight; they turn off the TV. Pavitr climbs up first, wedging himself between Hobie and the couch's backrest, sort of spooning Hobie from the side. Hobie doesn't react, so Gwen goes next. She plops on top of him, putting her head between his shoulder blades and gripping the sleeves of his t-shirt. Pavitr tangles their legs together and slings his arm over Gwen's back, connecting them like a weighted blanket around Hobie. They whisper and titter before settling.
Miles stays on the floor, scooting over to where Hobie's head rests. He curls up and leans against the couch, his and Hobie's faces inches apart, and holy cow. The noise. It sends tremors through him! Miles isn't like Hobie – he needs a semblance of quiet to rest. He can't possibly fall asleep like this.
He reaches for Hobie's hand on the carpet; grabs it. Hobie's fingers curl into Mile's palm. The nails are short ("better for fretting," Hobie once told him) and the pads are calloused.
Miles laces their fingers together and closes his eyes.

I think there's not enough emphasis on the fact that the time where Arthurian Era is set (the late 5th/early 6th century) is also the time of the British Saints.
There are many miracle-working saints that have interacted with the Camelot gang. Dubricius, Illtud, Dewi, Gildas, etc. have all met Arthur.
There is also a number of female saints, both in Britain and in Britanny, that lived in this time period. You have St. Dwynwen, the various daughters of Brychan (who have founded churches and monasteries!), and St. Gwen Teirbron ("thrice-breasted"):

hi. i would like to hear about the new spider nance concept.
hi rj! ask and ye shall receive!
so, in the updated spider-nance universe, nearly everything has been scrapped from the original. in the original, it was going to be a very standard spidey origin story. nancy was going to become the spider-woman, there was a super secret spy that escaped (eleven) and that would've brought robin onto team spidey. ultimately, too convoluted and i hate writing origin stories, especially with one as well known as spider-man's.
HOWEVER in the updated spidey-nance universe, nancy has already been the spider-woman for a while now. except, she hasn't been seen in years. not after that night with the goblin and barb. (picture barb's death as a TASM2 style death.) and after that, the goblin is defeated. nancy leaves the mask behind and walks away from it all. no more spider-woman.
nancy's in college now too (somewhere between her junior and senior year, havent really pinned that one down yet) just trying to get her degree in journalism like she'd originally planned. except life uhhhh finds a way. there's a new goblin--one who knows nancy, or at least, knows of her past-- and is actively trying to make nancy's life a living hell, almost five years later.
enter-- robin buckley, nosy, yet equally concerned, neighbor. who, nancy will learn, is incredibly smart, and becomes the official team spidey codebreaker.
nancy can't let herself get to close to her though (because, you know) but finds herself failing. nancy is drawn to robin, no matter what. which means robin is a liability, which means she cannot know nancy's secret. ever.
of course, robin will eventually find out (it's one of the very few scenes i kept from the original concept). and robin is stubborn, too, just like barb was. (wonder what will happen there...)
that's the gist of it, basically. in my mind nancy as the spider-woman does not have the same morals as peter parker, which is what makes her so interesting (and difficult) to write. like sure, she gets the whole power and responsibility thing, but i think after barb's death, she'd walk away from being spider-woman because her job would be done. the goblin is defeated. (how he was defeated...we may never know) and in college too i don't think she fully gives up the whole superhero thing. she's not the spider-woman anymore, but she protects girls from creepy guys following them home and stuff, ya know? (also nancy still has her guns. in no universe does she not own a gun.) i'm still on the fence if i wanna add some upside down things to this, mostly because i don't know where it would go, but also, i think it would be really cool to see spider-nance go up against the demogorgon.
