hot take but Timebomb has more in common with Catradora than Caitvi does: childhood friends to enemies to lovers(?) where ones the right hand to the guy making everyone's lives worse (Catra&Hordak/Jinx&Silco) the other is the rebellion (Ekko and the Firelights/Adora and the Princess Alliance), they actively almost murder each other quite a few times on the battlefield, at one point there's an alternate dimension where everything is "almost perfect", one becomes suicidal after losing everything/one and they have to fight a robotic overlord that mind controls everyone to not have free will, oh and one gets a dramatic haircut

like you saw Caitlyn in that "Commander Kiramman" role and just Ran with it despite when putting further thought into it, she and Catra have basically Nothing in common

I’m half convinced this is why all my media hyperfixations since 2016 have been animated.

In the fandom that got me on tumblr, the fans kept reading into things, and sometimes I thought people were reading WAY too much into things!, but there were a lot of things that seemed intentional (like, even people not in fandom noticed them!)…only for the people who made the show to basically laugh at us.

In animation it’s on purpose. It’s always on purpose. Every bit of facial expression, body language, every location, every item onscreen; is on purpose. Now, there’s always the chance of reading shit wrong. We’re humans. And the voice acting can complicate things. But STILL.

My current hyperfixation show had a much lower budget than Arcane. But they still repeatedly took the time to show us people’s facial expressions changing for a half second or so.

Anyway. It just makes so much more rewarding to notice all the details when you know THEY WERE INTENTIONAL

the other day I heard someone point out how since Arcane is animated, every little detail is intentional… and y’all I cannot stop thinking about it.

It’s not like live action, where someone’s finger might twitch of their own accord and then we as fans read into it. Every thing we see on screen in arcane was intentionally put there.

It’s like, on the surface level I knew this. I mean we all see how amazingly eyes are animated in this show for example

and we all know how incredible this animation team is. But when you think about the fact that nothing was a split second decision that happened to make the cut… like

The exact way Caitlyn collapsed into Vi’s arms, it wasn’t an actor making a random decision that the directors liked. The exact way Cait clings to her and Vi hesitates, people thought so hard and made strategic decisions to put this together.

Every stretch of skin was thought out, planned, animated to perfection.

I dunno, especially in context of the episode 8 scene, I just feel like this makes how incredibly executed it was even more groundbreaking. Because nothing was a one-off take that made it through, everything was explicitly intentional, and fuck I just think that’s beautiful.

Catra really needs her sleep

So here's a thing I've recently learned. Cats basically need to spend nearly all of their days fast asleep because they get stressed and anxious easily because of their heightened senses.

So basically, as a catgirl, it's no surprise that Catra spends most of the show stressed and anxious and to the breaking point. The poor girl desperately needs more sleep than she was clearly getting during her time in the Horde.

No wonder so many post-canon art and fics I see have her just napping and sleeping a lot. She's just catching up on nearly 20 years of barely getting her much-needed rest.
