Marisol’s new top has ruched side seams. I associated ruching with Marisol’s sense of style because it appears on her arrival shrug top, at the sleeve ends.

I accomplished this by making the shirt hem long, past her hands. The extra fabric was ruched, as follows:

Finish ends of 1/4” ribbon and 1/8”~ 1/16” ribbon

Layer the ribbons and stitch one end near the hem.

Stitch one side of the ribbon, then the other, careful not to catch the narrower one.

Pull narrow ribbon through the casing to ruche fabric. Adjust to preferred length and fullness of gather.

Stitch top end of casing and ribbon, trim, and finish narrow ribbon ends.

This same technique can be done using elastic, if you prefer.

i’m sure someone has already posted about this, but the similarities between kavi and marisol’s collection are so fun - it’s really cool to see how modern style has come full circle and some pieces (the shiny pants, the little wrap sweater) are back in fashion.
