"If you really care about *xyz* people then why aren't you talking about *insert current world event here*?"
I'm going to unpack this for a minute.
The idea that we have to be constantly discussing every single issue that's going on around us, all the time, in all the places, is neither realistic nor practical.
Because guess what? We can't. Nobody can do that. Nobody has the time, energy, head space, mental capacity. We all got our own lives, our own worries, our own baggage, our own stuff going on.
And you know what? For a lot of people, it's not what social media is for. We're not on Tumblr for that, and it should be respected. It's called boundaries. Some of us are in our own little corners of the internet to vibe and goof with our internet friends and guess what, that's fine, and that's our way of keeping ourselves safe.
You don't know who we are, what situations we're in, what's going on in our lives behind a blog and a username. There's absolutely nothing wrong with keeping your political opinions to yourself on the internet. A lot of us grew up in a time when there were such things as privacy and anonymity online, when there were things that you just didn't share with strangers in computer screens, and there are valid reasons for that. You don't know anything about us on here and we want to keep it this way. Not everyone is going to announce out loud, every time they make a charitable donation or do any humanitarian work or support a cause. For some of us, it's simply safer to keep these things to ourselves. For some of us, it's just a private matter and you're not entitled to our private lives.
We don't owe you an explanation for everything we believe in. We don't owe you an open door into our hearts and minds. We don't owe any random stranger on any part of the world wide web anything about ourselves.
It's also perfectly valid to advocate for one or two things that effect you and/or your loved ones personally, that are much closer to home. There are people everywhere who need help. Just because their hardship is different, doesn't mean they deserve less attention and less aid.
If you really want to make a difference, pick one thing that's close to you and give it as much as you can. You'd be doing a lot more than trolling around on Tumblr.
And for gods' sakes, don't put everything about yourself online for the sake of woke points or validation from strangers who don't even care about you. Keeping yourself safe is the most important thing.

Hot disability tip: For every action that one can do, assume there is at least one person who cannot do that action, both in part or wholly. Then, assume that for every one action, there are at least twenty alternative ways one could achieve it. Will they look different? Yes. Maybe it even makes you uncomfortable, but that doesn't mean that one's discomfort is worth somebody else's life.

Hey USAmericans! I don’t normally bring up work-related stuff here because this website is a clown car. But it is a clown car filled with people who disproportionately like privacy and love complaining about stuff that's terrible. So here’s some terrible stuff you can complain about. (Yes the blog post linked is from the company I work for. No, I'm not one of the authors. I would say please don’t dox me but… honestly if you do manage I’d be impressed and want to know how you did it for professional reasons. So like, I guess go for it, but don’t be creepy or violent.) The blog post does a better job summarizing it but here’s the gist:
If you’ve ever lived in the USA as an adult, it is extremely likely that anyone can Google you and find out personal details like where you live for free.
Even if your information is not THAT widely available, then it is still almost certainly true that someone could pay a data broker to obtain that information about you. Not like an insane amount of money, a normal amount of money that could reasonably be in a stalker’s budget.
This is because the USA has basically zero regulation about protecting people’s personal data. Data brokers are gross and take advantage of this.
It is EXTREMELY difficult to opt out of data brokers. It is doable, but it’s A LOT. Trust me, I do this for work, and it’s an enormous pain in the ass. I have worked for major tech companies in Silicon Valley — in other words, I have a lot more technical knowledge than the average consumer. Imagine how people who aren’t super tech savvy feel trying to do this work.
The Consumer Finance Protection Bureau is taking comments RIGHT NOW because they’re thinking about doing something about the current state of affairs. If you have a spare 5 minutes and you are creeped out by the possibility that anybody could find your personal details at any time, please submit a comment! The CFPB wants to hear consumer complaints, so complain!!! The blog includes a link to a template you can personalize, so you don’t even have to think that much about organizing it! This is especially true if you are someone who has real-life, serious reasons why people having access to your address would be dangerous. If you are LGBTQ+, if you are involved in activism, if you are a survivor of abuse, if you’ve been targeted by harassment or stalking or anything like that… PLEASE make a comment and explain specifically why this situation is dangerous for people like you. This is a serious issue that affects people’s mental and physical wellbeing, and the more Consumers (TM) that can write in directly and attest to how harmful it is, the better.
ETA: THE COMMENT PERIOD IS CLOSED. No need to share this further.

👰‍♀️Say NO to Child Marriages in America! Implement Standardized Marriage Age Laws
AN OPEN LETTER to THE PRESIDENT & U.S. CONGRESS; STATE GOVERNORS & LEGISLATURES
2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I am writing to express my deep concerns regarding the discrepancies and alarming loopholes in marriage age laws across the states and to advocate for action towards implementing a standardized marriage age of 18 nationwide, with strict provisions that prohibit underage marriage below 16 and set an age of consent not below 16. Additionally, I recommend setting a consent age gap provision that is no more permissive than at least 14 years old and up to five years older, further ensuring the safety and well-being of our youth.
It is alarming to note that four states—California, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Oklahoma—currently have no official minimum age for marriage but require parental consent or court approval. This inconsistency in laws creates dangerous loopholes that could be exploited by individuals seeking to harm or exploit minors. Allowing underage marriage below the age of 16 poses serious risks, including increased vulnerability to exploitation and abuse.
I urge you to take immediate steps towards implementing a consistent and protective legal framework by advocating for standardized marriage age laws across the nation.
Thank you for considering this urgent matter. I strongly believe that uniform marriage age laws are essential to safeguarding the rights and safety of young individuals and preventing potential harm.
Together, we can say NO to child marriage and child exploitation!

For everyone: I need a lot of eyes on this.
If you haven’t signed the END BAD INTERNET BILLS petition I urge you to do so. These bill will deeply affect our internet and makes it worse for everyone. There are many in the website feel free to sign all of them but know these are so incredibly important to keeping the future of the internet safe and secure.
Sign the petition here :
If you’re wondering why you should sign it here is a much longer and exactly what these bills are doing:
We need to make a lot of noise and it’s important to complain to senators. Here are all the bills that are lined up. A lot of these are seemingly to protect kids - they are not. They are meant to make the internet easier to patrol and take privacy rights away and deeply affect LGBTQ youth.
EARN IT - undermines end-to-end encryption, making everyone less safe. Privacy can be invaded and less security in communication.
KOSA - harms kids and teens’ access to lifesaving LGBTQ resources and sex education. It will censor these and make it where sites that are pro-lgbtq cannot exist without it being 18+.
RESTRICT ACT- gives the president unprecedented power to police the internet RESTRICT gives Biden (and all future presidents!) extraordinary new powers to ban Americans from using entire apps simply by claiming they pose a “threat to national security,” outside of any democratic process. Politicians are pushing this bill to show they’re “tough on China”—but instead of protecting us, this law would lead to an internet censored by the president.
AGE-GATING BILLS- limit teenagers’ online access and force everyone to give ID to use social media. If you watch NSFW content it means you will have to give an ID to view it. Deeply affects SWer. Also huge privacy violation with having to give your id to watch 18+ content.
STOP CSAM - weakens end-to-end encryption and gives new surveillance powers to law enforcement. Instead, it would make CSAM cases harder to prosecute—like SESTA/FOSTA before it—while reducing privacy protections in ways that would harm vulnerable people. Like EARN IT, STOP CSAM undermines end-to-end encryption, a technology that’s vital for LGBTQ+ youth, survivors of interpersonal violence and stalking, abortion seekers and providers, and activists. Weakening E2EE as a means to funnel more information to law enforcement also sets an alarming precedent for government surveillance. All of us, including children, need to be able to communicate in the digital age without our conversations being spied on.
COOPER DAVIS
The Cooper Davis Act is a misguided attempt to address the public health crisis caused by fentanyl in many communities in the US. The bill does more harm than good: opening the door for increased surveillance of messaging and damaging encryption that ensures digital security online, another EARN IT Act copycat bill. More surveillance will not solve a public health crisis. End-to-end encryption is not a public safety threat. Secure, private messaging protects people’s privacy and should be protected.

"In D.C. and in cities around the country, the ever-expanding racial wealth gap exacerbates the conditions that contribute to this uniquely U.S. crisis. Decades of housing discrimination, redlining, lack of access to quality education, high rates of joblessness and low-wage employment compound the challenges faced by Black communities. As the former vice president for programs at the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence put it, “inequality isn’t just about making money or not making money; it’s really about whether you’re going to survive.”

SC Out of Home Abuse and Neglect (OHAN)
In your foster care training you may have heard about OHAN. Over the years I have always been told it isn’t IF, but WHEN you get investigated by OHAN. That is why documentation is extremely important for foster parents and social workers alike. You can read the importance of documentation in one of my other articles, but here is what OHAN is. Sounds scary doesn’t it? The Out of Home Abuse and…

An overwhelming focus on sexuality and attraction - or what i perceive to be that - has been very frustrating for me. I cant remember the book or the author but they were asserting that at the moment of rejecting heterosexuality, gay people are also breaking from gender roles. That there me be an inherent "transness / queering of gender" element to all homosexual activity. Does that extend to other instances of breaking from gender roles? Hmm..

Also, this applies in the US, but not in most other anglophone countries.
If you need this sort of help after treatment in a UK NHS hospital, PALS are the department to speak to (there's usually an office of theirs within each hospital). If you have problems with a GP surgery or dental practice, the first line of inquiry there should be the practice manager.
I can't speak to racial and ethnic marginalisation specifically, being marginalised in other ways, but in general PALS are much less hostile than if you go straight to a given doctor with whom you have problems.
(Edit: As with many things, the NHS is still a postcode lottery. PALS works well in most regions, but not all, so taking a third-party peer advocate along with you is still a good idea, if you can.)
I don't know how it'll work for any further countries, can people please add to this?
i think a LOT of you with chronic conditions should learn this one magical phrase to get your hospital doctor to shit his entire pants, which is leaving the room and saying "im going to go discuss your behavior with the ethics committee, i think you might need a reminder of what your job is"
