Word count: 3,8k
Requested? No.
General masterlist | A Day in Life - Series masterlist
Wake up, make out, get up. First steps of your everyday routine. Sometimes making out turns into something more, but not today.
From his past life, as Robin, Jason learned a lot about discipline. As much as he tried to forget everything and everyone from his past before you, some habits die hard, although with time, with you and with therapy, he accepted that not all of his experience was bad or should be thrown away just because of one sociopathic clown who hurt him. Yes, Jason died, came back angry and did a lot of shit. But he was still alive and this could be a second chance.
While you, his darling spouse, get ready for work, Jason gets up, puts on his apron, fills the dog bowl for Daphne — your little brown dachshund that you adopted together four months after getting married —, opens the doors to the garden, so the dog can do whatever, and finally starts making breakfast and lunch. Breakfast so you two can eat together and lunch for you to eat at work. Sometimes you both meet up and eat together at your office or a restaurant. Today, that's not the case.
Simple yogurt with fresh fruits and nuts, coupled with a slice of chocolate cake he baked the day prior, eggs, toast and coffee for breakfast. As for your lunch box, a natural sandwich, salad, fruits and juice. He also fills up your two liter water bottle, so you feel pressured have no excuse but to stay hydrated.
Food. Until he was 12 his relationship with food was complicated, to stay the least. At first, his beloved but troubled mom would be in no condition to cook him three or more nice and fulfilling meals a day for a growing boy, he either had to learn and make do with quick instant food, eggs and old bread, or starve, since money was something he only saw when it was being handled to her drug dealer. His father was even worse. Jason loved his mom. Still suffers for her. He hated his father who was the one making her addiction worse. He’s still happy he died.
Living on the streets, food was a dream. A bad dream. It either came from trash or he had to do things that made him feel humiliated and guilty just to get some. And it was gone in a flash, he was so hungry he devoured it all in a second, and then his belly hurt.
Then he came. Jason loved his new father. Loved his new grandfather. Loved their food. So healthy, abundant and full of taste. So fun to prepare. He learned a lot from Alfred because he loved to spend time with him, play with the ingredients and make everyone and himself happy with the results.
But then he had those memories wiped out of his mind, (un)fortunately they came back, but at that time food was in the back of his mind. Sure, he didn't have to worry about starving, crime paid more than enough for that, but he didn't put much thought into any of it.
Now, with you, he's making new memories with food. He cooked and baked a lot with you and for you throughout all your relationship, and you did the same for him. He loves his kitchen, just like the rest of your house. The pantry and fridge are always full thanks to you. You take good care of him. You make his trust in you be worth it. And he reciprocates it. Healthy and nice food that brings comfort and makes you roll your eyes. Especially after he started frequenting cooking classes as a hobby, again, thanks to you.
After you are gone with a full belly and a pet in the ass (just like him, honestly), he continues his routine. He changes clothes and goes to the gym. Jason never stopped exercising, but the lack of all the activity vigilantism entails and with all the treats you two have, he started getting more soft. You loved it, he hated it. — Okay he didn't hate it, he just wasn't the most happy with it. Roy thought it was kinda funny, until Jason pointed out he also got softer after Lian. You honestly couldn't see why all that softness they were talking about was so bad since they were still very muscular and defined, just less dry and more snuggly. You honestly thought your Jaybird could go even further. — So the addiction of yoga to his routine happened.
After that, he goes straight home, eats, showers, takes care of his appearance to keep looking like a proper hubby that you can shove on your bitter frenemies faces, and makes sure to keep the maintenance of the house, so you can come back tired from work and enjoy a perfect house to rest on.
Hygiene. Another things that was complicated with his biological family. His father wouldn't touch a single plate or broom, and would beat and scream at his mom if she didn't put her high (again, because of him) ass up and did the labor. Most often than not, their house was messy, had a bad smell that his little nose was so used to that it's not like he minded, and had insects around. His clothes were dirty hand-me-downs, some fit him, some didn't, a lot of them had holes. His hair tangled and itchy.
When he went to the streets, it just got worse.
Bruce and Alfred fixed that. He finally learned what stink was because he only knew good and neutral scents. His clothes fit him. Everything around him was clean and well-kept. No holes, no stains. Hair always trimmed, soft and clean. Well maintained.
When he came back, cleanliness was basic. Of course he is gonna keep everything around him clean. Habit and common sense, you know? Clothes his size because why the hell would he use hand-me-downs when he can just buy his own? And they had to be the right size for his new 6’2 and almost 200 lbs body. Hair? Whatever. Always washed but as long as it didn't look ridiculous he didn't have time to put much thought on his appearance. He was genuinely surprised you were attracted to him at first sight.
Being with you, he learned to enjoy the little things in life again. Sometimes he finds himself unmoving in front of a random room of the house, or in front of the mirror, trying to grasp if it's all real, If this is really his life, if that's how he looks. His mind flashes memories of his childhood home and his current home. He ignores the memories of the manor not only because of the betrayal he felt for Bruce, but also because the manor was from the Wayne's. He was a Wayne. He is not anymore. This is him. His new house, with you, is what he wished he had growing up. What he always dreamed of. Love. Company. And comfort. He felt all of that while being a Wayne, until he despised the Wayne's. Not the couple that died decades ago or the centuries old descendants. But his father and his siblings.
On days where he doesn't take care of the house, he practices his hobbies. He now has time to do it all, surprising you, his therapist, Roy, and himself, he did cooking, gardening, pottery, crocheting and of course, reading. You paid for all his classes, praised him on his achievements, added his creations to the decor of the house, accompanied him on any event or place related to his interests, gave him his own library in one of the rooms in the house. He even made some friends between middle-aged women and the only other househusband and stay-a-home dad that frequented those places.
It was very funny and cute seeing rough, huge, leather jacket wearing and scarred Jason Todd telling jokes to 50-year-old white moms/grandmas and sometimes even babysitting their kids, pets and plants. You knew he could be a good dad one day if you decided to have kids. He was also more than happy to have just you, Daphne and good friends. And plants.
Warmth. When he was a kid his parents broke the heater during a fight, he wondered if they didn't have money to fix it, even with his father's activities, or if his father just refused to fix it. Anyhow, it was always cold in Gotham, freezing on winter, his dirty clothes with holes didn't help much. The streets didn't seem much different in that aspect. The manor kept him warm when he wasn't seven feet under the dirt, in a casket. When he came back, Jason always wore the warmest of clothes, even while sweating, he didn't know why. Now he did. Your house is always warm. Your body is always warm. Comfort. Your love gave him comfort. Warmth. A reason to live.
Love. His mom. Bruce and Alfred. You.
After he was done and rested for a little, Jason took Daphne for a walk in the way to the grocery shop. He wanted to try a new receipt you saw on tiktok today for dinner and had to get more flour and something for the filling.
After a few minutes of walking on his perfectly nice looking and safe neighborhood — nothing like crime alley. The type of neighborhood he saw on the television and imagined those other happy kids his age living and envied them. Dreamed of being adopted into one of their families while jumping from orphanage to orphanage. It never happened. He just got more abused. And then the manor was so isolated that you could only see mansions and plants all around. So big and far away that they looked empty of life. — he got there and strapped the dog to a post, next to a smiley golden retriever.
He got in and- fuck it, I'm going home. The empanadas can wait another day.
— Jason? Oh my god. Jason! Is that you?! — The infuriatingly familiar loud voice calls out from the middle of the shop and all heads turn to look. Shit, he can't go now without embarrassing himself in front of the cashier of his favorite and most visited shop. So he just nods, takes a basket and walks as if there was nothing interesting happening. It worked with the others costumers, unfortunately, Dick thought it was way too interesting and forgot his own basket that only contained eggs and cereal, and started following him around, this time, with a less surprised tone.
— Hey, Dick. — Jason idly muttered, that just made his coff coff brother indignant.
— Hey, Dick?! What the hell? Where were you? It's been three years! We thought you were dead! Or kidnapped! We never stopped looking for you! We were worried! We mourned! What happened? — Was it bad that Jason didn't want to give him a real answer? Probably. Especially with how much his therapist, who he saw on the days he didn't go to the gym, told him he should try to mend things with his family. So much so that he started actually contemplating it recently. But if he did it, it was going to be on his own time. Not by bumping into them in the grocery store. Oh, well. Jason was always good at adapting. The best.
And wow, three years had passed? Makes sense. Recovery does take time and he's been really happy for a while. Jason still remembers the day he decided to quit everything. It was the same day he decided you were the one, truthfully he always knew you were marriage material, the perfect one for him, out of his league, straight out of his most amazing dreams, peak goal for him, but he wasn't sure if he deserved to be the one you should be stuck with forever. He desperately wanted to, but he had to commit. Ride or die. He loved you, now more than ever, and didn't want to waste your time. He was still a bit messy at the time, but you made it all better, he was a lot better than he was before you came into the picture. You were the right choice. Jason always took you seriously, he was just insecure. So, while still in around eight months of relationship, he quit everything.
He quit his family. He quit vigilantism. He searched for recovery. And a year and a half later, with a little more than two years of dating, he made the big proposal. You married on your three-year anniversary. Got Daphne four months later. It's been around three or four months ever since.
While Dick’s math might not be exact, it is not necessary in this context, the point came across just fine.
He also knew that the fact that you both decided to not leave Gotham was going to bite him in the ass one day. One way or another.
— What happened? Oh, well. I retired. Got married. And now I'm a dad. — Daphne was like a daughter to him, so it was the same, right?
His nonchalant reply didn't seem to satisfy the other, though. Todd could see it, the urge to strangle him in his eyes. Dick wouldn't strangle his dead missing little brother, would he?
— You… You what? — Dick was in disbelief.
— You guys searched for me? Thanks, I guess? It means a lot. — Jason just sniffed and went on his way, leaving Grayson behind, paralyzed.
Maybe he could be fast enough and get out of there before the older one got a grasp of his senses back and followed him out. Part of him felt hope, the other heard yours and his therapist voices in his head, and the nagging was annoying. Maybe he never stopped being a “grump”, like you always amusedly said.
Oh, no. Here he comes again. Jason suppresses an eye-roll.
— Stop. Can you really explain? — The mix of emotions was almost overwhelming, an urge to cry, punch a wall, punch Jason's face, scream and who knows what more was running through Dick's body.
Jason sighed and finally addressed him completely. Tone lower so no one could hear.
— Okay. I met someone… Someone good. Someone special. A civilian. I was tired of everything. So I decided to retire and made sure none of you could find me. I'm surprised Roy and Lian kept the secret from you, though. Anyway. Now I'm a stay-at-home hubby, have a dog and go to therapy. You happy? — A beat of silence. — Hey, don't make that face… I was going to tell you guys eventually… When I felt like it… It's not like you guys saw me a lot. How much time did it take for you all to miss me? I made an appearance once in a while when someone asked for help and that's it. Alfred knew everything so if you’re gonna be mad at anyone, be at him too, not just me… And Roy. Don't forget Roy.
— A-Are you kidding me? Oh, yes, blame the butler! You couldn't even tell us? Like “hey guys, I'm gonna retire and take some time for myself for a while. Also, come to my wedding!” I wanted to be invited, you know?! Why didn't you invite me? Did you at least invite Alfred? Did- — Jason rolled his eyes and cut his rant.
— Yes, Alfred was there. Front row and everything. — Dick shrieked.
— T-That’s not the point! — His voice raised slightly from exasperation and both of them checked around for anyone's attention, then came back to the conversation.
Jason raised a hand to interrupt him and took a deep breath.
— Look. I wasn't in a nice place at the time, okay? I'm better now… And I was going to talk to you guys sooner rather than later… — Jason let a moment of vulnerability shine, hoping that would melt his brother's heart and fix things. It did. — We will have a second wedding when we renovate our vows in our 5th anniversary. You can be there… Everyone can be there. — Jason cleared his throat to interrupt the other again. — But now I have to get home in time to make dinner for my honeyboo, so why don't we… Stay in contact and… One of those days everyone can have dinner together and catch up, huh?
Dick took one of the deepest breaths of his whole life. Jason pursed his lips.
— Okay… — He stuck a finger in his face roughly. — But don't disappear again. Or else I promise I’m gonna personally make everyone track you down, understood? — Jason snorted. As if Tim and Bruce wouldn't do it already once they knew everything. As if Bruce didn't secretly keep track of him this whole time. Unless… Unless everyone changed and he didn't know his… His family anymore.
Why did it make him feel weird?
— Yes, boss. — Jason saluted him and left.

— Relax… — You elongated the word. — Nothing bad it's gonna happen… — You went behind Jason and tried rubbing his broad shoulders to chase the tenseness away. The sight and feel of his muscles almost made you drool, and you blinked to focus again.
— How do you know? — You pursed your lips and went to his side to try to make him take his eyes off of cleaning the countertop for the 4th time due to anxiety.
— Because they love you. And they care about you. And they miss you. — Jason deadpanned you. — Just give it a chance. If anything goes wrong, we will just kick them out and you never have to talk to them, ever again. We can even move if you want. Or go on a vacation to the same place we had our honeymoon, I can wear that skimpy piece you like… Spoil you rotten… — Your voice lowered seductively and you pressed your body to his side, running your hand up and down his arms with some pressure.
Jason’s mind went blank and he was speechless for a few seconds. Your eyebrows raised with a small, convincing smile that made all his worries go away. He sighed.
— Okay… Okay, you’re right… — He leaned down and sneaked an arm around your waist. You both shared a slow and wet kiss, bordering between sensual and calming. Unfortunately, he had to wait a few hours before having some action. He pulled his face away a few centimeters, looking you in the eyes. — I thought I had ripped that thing. — You blinked.
— You just might have. But I bought another one because I looked too good on it not to wear it again. — You shared a chuckle when the doorbell rang. You both looked at the door, then at each other. — Want me to get it? — You ran a hand through his hair, trying to calm the last of his nerves. Jason swallowed.
— No. Have to get it over with. — He took a deep breath and then let out. Pulling away from your embrace. — Put the juice on the table for me, please? — You hummed and nodded.
Without giving a second thought, he walked in long strides and abruptly opened the door.
It was like that scene in Avengers: End Game when on one side there was just Captain America against the whole Thanos's army, just staring at each other.
— Are you wearing an apron? — Damian snarked with an eyebrow raised. Jason looked down. Yes, he was. Good start.
— Take your shoes off, there’s other shoes for you all there. And here I was having hope that at fifteen you wouldn't be a demon anymore. — Jason said sarcastically and gave them space to enter.
As soon as they got in the neighborhood they were all already skeptical. If you were the only one working, how much do you earn to live in such a nice area and with this nice house? They could even see a pool in the backyard and there were TWO expensive cars in the driveway. Jason said he quit all of the crime lord thing, did he keep the savings? Did he invest?
The little dog came running and barking, taking their attention away from the house and their shoes, Damian immediately crouched to pet her. Jason let a side of his lips go up. At least that hasn't changed.
— Her name is Daphne. — Jason spoke over the cooing of Duke and Cass at the dog. He locked eyes with Bruce who had an unreadable expression on his face. He looked older, Jason didn't know how to feel about that. Then gazed at Dick, who had a shit eating grin, Alfred, whose satisfied smile warmed his heart, and Tim, who was analyzing the space while changing shoes.
— Nice place. So, what does your partner do? — Are they committing fraud? — You appeared from the corner and replied for him.
— I direct the Queen Industries’s Gotham’s office. — You answered softly with a polite smile, stopping besides Jason, who wrapped an arm around you. Everyone's gaze turning on you made you feel shy, but you held on with confidence.
— Oh, wow, so Jason really is a malewife. — Your eyes widened in surprised and you couldn't hold back a laugh. Jason let a small smile graze his lips, coaxing the easiness out of him.
— I offered to pay cleaning and cooking service, but he wanted to do things himself. — You say, a little afraid they would get angry at you for “slavering” their Jason.
— Did you buy those cars outside? — Wow, Tim really was as skeptical as Jason had said.
— Hmhmm. — You nodded simply, as if it was nothing.
Jason's siblings raised their eyebrows and Bruce cleared his throat, and took a step forward, feet clad in fluffy slippers. He offered a hand and presented himself politely to you. You wondered how much of that was his persona and how much was just a father meeting his son's partner.
While giving them a tour of the house, the family — aside from Alfred who already knew it all — observed the details, happy memories in the form of pictures of trips, your marriage, birthdays, anniversaries, Daphne's growing stages, spontaneous moments that just deserved to be eternalized, trinkets, handmade pots, plants, Daphne’s toys, and the decor that was just a mix of you both. No guns in the walls, no corpses buried in the backyard, no blood stains. The only signals that it was their Jason living here and not a clone were the books, pictures and hidden security measures.
It was… Good. Peaceful. Clearly the change in scenario helped him. It hurt them a little, some more than others, that it took him cutting them off for him to start healing, although, maybe opening up this new side of him for them meant that it wasn't just that. And it wasn't. The fault didn't fall completely on them. Nor on Jason. And one person, you, can't be the solution for all global crisis. Mental health is complex. Trauma is complicated. Past can't be changed, but the future can.
That night, everyone enjoyed Jason's cooking, Daphne and the new future.

How to Make Wellness Part of Your Busy Routine (Without the Stress)
by Soleau Club

We’ve all been there. The endless to-do lists, back-to-back meetings, and the never-ending scroll of tasks. Wellness? Yeah, that can feel like an afterthought when life is pulling you in a thousand different directions. But here’s the thing: Wellness doesn’t have to be stressful, expensive, or time-consuming. The trick is integrating it into your life in ways that feel effortless—not like another thing to add to your to-do list.
So, how do you make wellness a non-negotiable part of your busy routine without feeling overwhelmed? Let’s break it down.
1. Start with Micro-Moments of Mindfulness
Wellness isn’t just about green smoothies and 90-minute yoga sessions. It’s about how you move through your day. The little moments can have the biggest impact. Micro-moments of mindfulness are a simple way to check in with yourself without slowing down the whole day.
Start your day with 3 deep breaths: Before even getting out of bed, close your eyes, and take 3 slow, deep breaths. Set your intention for the day—maybe it’s calm, productivity, or gratitude.
Take a 60-second mental break: Whether you're in between meetings or waiting for your coffee to brew, take a moment to pause, close your eyes, and reset your mind. No phone. Just breathe.
Mindful walking: On your way to the car or around the office, focus on the rhythm of your steps and how your body feels. This simple practice grounds you, helping you stay centered.
The goal is to weave moments of mindfulness into your day so wellness becomes a natural rhythm, not another thing you “have to do.”
2. Prioritize Movement That Feels Good (And Fits Your Schedule)
Wellness is all about staying active, but that doesn’t mean you need a gym membership or a packed Pilates schedule to make it happen. The key is movement that works with your lifestyle.
10-minute morning stretch: Start your day with a short but sweet stretch session. Focus on your neck, shoulders, and back to release tension from sleep and get your body energized.
Walk & Talk: Schedule walking meetings or take phone calls while walking. Even a quick 10-minute walk around the block can do wonders for your energy and mood.
Desk Yoga: Yes, you can do yoga without leaving your desk. Chair poses, shoulder rolls, and wrist stretches are all low-effort ways to stay limber without disrupting your workflow.
The secret here is consistency. Small pockets of movement throughout the day can add up to a significant boost in energy, strength, and mental clarity.
3. Make Nutrition Easy and Nourishing
We all know that food is fuel, but when life gets busy, it’s easy to grab the closest thing to eat and call it a meal. The trick is to make healthy eating as easy and seamless as possible.
Batch cooking: On a Sunday, prep a few healthy meals or snacks that can be eaten throughout the week. Think salads, grain bowls, or smoothie packs. This way, you’ve got nutritious options on hand when you’re too busy to cook.
Smart snacks: Keep protein bars, nuts, or fruit in your bag, car, or desk drawer. These quick snacks keep you from reaching for less-than-ideal options when hunger strikes.
Hydrate without the hassle: Carry a water bottle with you wherever you go. Set hourly reminders on your phone to take a sip or make it a habit to refill at the top of each hour.
By making small, conscious decisions to nourish your body, you won’t have to worry about falling into unhealthy habits when you’re rushed or stressed.
4. Create a “Wellness Window” in Your Day
Rather than trying to squeeze wellness into every single minute (which only leads to stress), create a designated time block for your well-being. It’s about prioritizing yourself without overwhelming your schedule.
Set your wellness window: Pick a time, even if it’s only 30 minutes, and commit it to your wellness. This could be first thing in the morning for a quick meditation and stretch or right after work for a walk or a bath.
Don’t Over-Schedule: Choose something that’s genuinely restorative and enjoyable. It might be a quick journaling session or a mini skincare routine that’s calming but doesn’t take up hours of your day.
This window of time becomes your sacred, non-negotiable period to reset and recharge—allowing you to take care of yourself without guilt.
5. Integrate Relaxation (Without the Guilt)
Wellness isn’t all about going, going, going—it’s also about knowing when to stop. Burnout happens when you neglect the importance of rest and recovery. So, without adding more stress to your already-packed life, here’s how to make relaxation a priority.
Relaxation rituals: This could mean a 15-minute bath, a cup of herbal tea while watching your favorite show, or a quick nap. The key is to treat these moments as a necessary part of your day, not as a luxury.
Sleep hygiene: Your wellness routine should include a good night’s sleep. Create a simple evening ritual—dim the lights, avoid screens 30 minutes before bed, and wind down with a calming activity (reading, journaling, or meditating).
A rested, relaxed mind and body will keep you energized, productive, and ready to take on whatever life throws your way.
6. Make Wellness Fun, Not a Chore
Finally, if wellness feels like another task on your never-ending list, you’re missing the point. Wellness should be something you look forward to, not dread. Make it fun and flexible!
Mix it up: Whether it’s trying a new workout, cooking a new recipe, or experimenting with a different skincare product, keep things fresh. The more you enjoy it, the more likely you’ll stick with it.
Wellness with friends: Invite your friends to join you for a walk, a yoga class, or a cooking date. Making wellness a social event can turn something solo into a fun experience.
When you make wellness something you enjoy instead of have to do, it’ll naturally become a part of your routine, with zero stress attached.
In Conclusion:
Wellness doesn’t have to add stress to an already busy life. It’s about finding balance, prioritizing what matters, and weaving small, intentional practices into your daily routine. With the right mindset, even the busiest schedule can be transformed into a wellness haven.

Rita Calhoun 50 OTP Q's Pt. 2
Rita Calhoun x fem!reader no major warnings. pt 2 a pretty quick follow up of pt 1 as it's just some hc's and not a full fic lol. Send your req's in here for more fun!
26. Who likes to eat healthy/ Who loves junk food? You both have a good balance of both. Rita really enjoys her sweet treats, but she doesn’t go overboard on them. She prefers to order groceries from whole foods while you don’t care where they come from as long as its edible. She does rely on take out a lot, but it’s from healthier places, salads, sandwiches, rice or noodle bowls, acai bowls, salmon or chicken and rice with veggies. You’ve even found her some nights with delivery from restaurants that don’t even offer it and all she’s said is “I know a guy…”. You’re the one more likely to indulge in the greasy pizza, overloaded Chinese food or mcdonalds.
27. Who takes a long shower/ Who sings in the shower? Rita’s everything shower is over an hour long every single time. You cannot tell me that woman doesn’t have a like 20 fucking step routine between skincare, haircare, dry brushing, etc. It’s also one of the times during the day that she uses to relax, some candles, a nice soft playlist to help her wind down. You’re the one that sings in the shower, though you only try to do it in the mornings she’s already gone for the day in the hopes to not be overheard.
28. Who is the book worm? Rita, absolutely hands down. She’s *obsessed* with books and on weekend shopping days will ALWAYS be dragging you into bookstores, especially antique or second hand ones. She’s usually got multiple on the go at once, a couple of fiction with different genres, and a couple of non fiction.
29. Who is the better cook? We all know it’s going to be you. It doesn’t matter if you’re not that great. Rita can’t even defrost an Uncrustable properly.
30. Who likes long walks on the beach? Gonna go with both of you. You don’t care what kind of beach it is, you enjoy the company, feeling the sand in your toes, the water on your feet, best way to end the day. Rita prefers the walking paths/sidewalks down by the beach so she doesn’t have to deal with the sand.
31. Who is more affectionate? Overall, and physically, you. You’re always telling her how much you love her, and are eager to have a hand or arm linked with hers while walking around outside. You’re more likely to be the one stealing a kiss or showing off PDA. It’s in the privacy of your home that Rita goes overboard with her affection. She shows it by physical touch and gifts mainly. Her hands tracing patterns on your legs while they’re strewn over her lap on the couch, she often catches herself watching you with a dreamy smile on her face because of how much she loves you and how much she can’t believe how well you take care of her.
32. Who likes to have really long (deep) conversation? This one’s definitely going to Rita. She can talk for hours on end about those deep philosophical conversations that go on far too late into the night. She always enjoys expanding her mind and self educating herself on various topics and loves spending time looking things up and debating back and fourth with friends.
33. Who would wear “not guilty” t-shirt/ Who would wear “sin” t-shirt? Hear me out, this was Rita and Rafael in their Harvard days. I’ll let you decide who’s wearing which one lol.
34. Who would wear “if lost return to…” t-shirt/ Who would wear “I am…” t-shirt? You’re definitely wearing the lost one, Rita’s the much more sober and collected one, gently guiding you to the car at the end of the night.
35. Who goes overboard on the holidays? Rita. She never means to, you’ve likely set limits for prices of presents and she almost always accidentally exceeds it. She never cared much for holidays, thinking they were overrated and never bothered to decorate her home or office when she was single and working all the time. But there’s something about seeing the way your eyes sparkle in the Christmas lights that she has a team fully decking out the entire apartment every single year because she knows you love it. (she does always make sure they leave the tree bare as that’s been made into a tradition the two of you do together.)
36. Who is the social media addict? You. Rita is not chronically online. The apps on her phone are much more likely to be various news ones. She likely has twitter and uses it more as a work reference and again, to keep up on current events and news. I DO like to believe that she has a (likely private) Instagram (and we’re gonna ignore the timeline of when insta became a thing/her age for this hc lol). And she’s been posting on it since college, fancy parties, yacht trips out in the hamptons, semi spicy bikini or dress pics, it’s incredibly aesthetic and she thrives to keep the vibe going. She’s got a fuck ton of followers and is like, lowkey Instagram famous, but most of the posts don’t actually include her face, especially as she got older and more concerned with her professional image.
37. Height difference or age difference? Didn’t we already do height? Lol. Age wise, Rita’s usually older. She focused on school and work and didn’t want to waste time dating when she was younger. Now that she’s established most people closer to her age are already married with kids. She doesn’t have any issues dating younger, as long as her partner has their shit together and has some ambition and goals when it comes to life. She cant deal with someone who has no motivation and just lounges around all day.
38. Who likes to star gaze? This is more leaning towards you. You like to take a moment during each day to appreciate the little things, like this, and say a silent thank you to the world for making such beautiful things. She doesn’t really think about it until you’re out of the skyscrapers of the city, sometimes out in the hampton’s, sometimes it’s a more tropical vacation that she can really see the night sky and there’s no place she’d rather be than on a cozy blanket showing you constellations.
39. Who buys cereal for the prize inside? Absolutely you! Which Rita will lovingly tease you about, especially if there is a collection of toys and you continue to buy boxes until you have the entire set. (and naturally you never actually eat the cereal..)
40. Who is the fun parent/ Who is the responsible parent? If it came to actual parenting, I think Rita would be a mix of both, but much heavier leaning toward the responsible one. But she’s not having kids, so she’s always going to be the super fun rich af Aunt. She doesn’t do well with the younger kids, but once they’re about 16/17 she can have actual conversations with them, and she’ll be the one sneaking them booze and inviting them out to the hampton’s and letting them (semi responsibly) party on the yacht. She’s obviously the one you’d want to call when you’re in trouble considering her job and she’s also the one that’s never going to whisper a word to either of your parents. She’ll take those secrets to the grave. And she’s also very capable of intimidating the fuck out of bullies or ex boyfriends. She will threaten them with jail time.
41. Who cries during sad movies? Both of you. Rita’s a fucking sap so she cries at the romantic movies, you’re more likely the one to cry over the animals.
42. Who is the neat freak? I don’t particularly think Rita’s a neat *freak* but she has everything in its spot and knows where her things are 99.9% of the time. She’s organized, collected, tidy, her kitchen’s always clean cause she never cooks lol. And she likely has a cleaning service come to her apartment weekly to help with that kinda stuff.
43. Who wins the stuffed animals at the carnival for the other one? You’re shocked Rita even agreed to go to the carnival with you and you’ve promised to win her one as a thank you. While she does have fun, indulges in plenty of food she never would have touched otherwise, and obviously pays for you to play all the stupid, nearly impossible to win games, it’s the giant smile on your face as you turn to her with a lime neon green giant monkey that makes her the happiest. If it had been some random gift from a first date it would have gone in the trash right away, but because it's from you and you worked so hard to win it he gets a name by the time you’re home and either lives on a stool in the walk in closet or has taken up residency in the guest room. (it’s his room now)
44. Who is active/ Who is lazy? You like to get a daily workout in, something as small as a walk around the block on slower days up to a class at the gym or some heavy lifting on days you’re more ambitious. Rita always makes sure to not be too sedentary, especially with an office job. She enjoys the more streamlined workouts, Pilates or yoga, things that she can do in the privacy of her living room and not have to leave the house for on colder days. She doesn’t particularly enjoy running, but will do it when she starts to feel a little too stiff and immobile. On the other hand, she truly enjoys your post dinner walks through the park, hand in hand as you share little stories.
45. Who is more likely to get drunk? Absolutely you. Rita will indulge in a drink or two with dinner, a cocktail or two out at the bar, but she doesn’t go much passed that. She doesn’t like to be out of control of herself, especially out in public. She has been known to finish a bottle of wine or two while at the apartment, and definitely gets a little silly, laughing harder and longer than she normally does.
46. Who has the longer food order? This is weird. Lol. I’m gonna go with Rita because she likely hasn’t eaten since breakfast and thus is more hungry, opting for an app or two and a full course meal while you’re fine with just a burger.
47. Who has the more complex coffee order? Rita. While it’s pretty simple at home, if she’s out and there’s a fancier option, she’s indulging. She probably has some sort of self made up special combination of different drinks. You’d think the barista’s would hate her for it but they all know her by name and have nicknamed the drink ‘The Calhoun’ so it has its own priced button in the computer and sticker label with all the steps for newer staff. (not to mention she tips incredibly on the daily)
48. Who loses stuff? You.
49. Who is the driver/ Who is the passenger? You’re always the driver if you’re not in a cab/car service. While Rita does know how to drive, she simply doesn’t. I could definitely see her having gotten her licence back in the day and never using it, thus letting it expire. She’s a passenger princess through and through.
50. Who is the hopeless romantic? Rita. That bitch is a cold hearted shark who scares or at least intimidates 90 % of the people she comes across in her workday/life but she has this completely other side to her with the people she trusts and loves. She’s the softest, most gentle, caring, tender person who will always put her love first and take every opportunity to show it.

Petunia as a housewife influencer
“Hello, lovely neighbours. Follow me through my morning routine. Oh, we're whispering because my baby Dudders is very sensitive to noises.”
A woman rises up from bed, large body of husband seen in foreground, tightening her pale silk robe.
“I wake up at 5 am, as you can see it's pretty dark around here.”
Light floods on inside a marble tiled bathroom. Petunia is opening products and applying it on her face, her hair tied behind her very neatly.
“So I start my day with the Gilderoy Glow Face Mask, followed by Gilderoy Glow Cleanser. Yesterday, my neighbour next door commented on how lovely my skin looked—and I had actually forgotten to do my cleansing routine! The Gilderoy Glow really holds up for at least a couple of days.”
Petunia's rinsing her face with water, eyes scrunched close.
“After this, we hydrate with a glass of lemon water, which really keeps away the unwanted fat from our bellies. Then I apply the Cauldron of moisturiser and sunscreen, and take a moment to meditate. After a quick shower—”
Petunia’s hands (no longer covered by the robe) show her picking up a container of Severus Snape Hair Mask, a bottle of Severus Snape Hair Shampoo, followed by Severus Snape Hair Conditioner. A glowy “Link in my bio” caption appears on the blue tiles of the bathroom.
“I dry out my hair with my Gryffindor Airwrap, brushing it out.
“Then I head on to the kitchen to make breakfast.”
Petunia—with a face full of makeup—heads to a clean kitchen, brings a chopping board, cuts one half breast of a chicken, and one capsicum, then dumps chicken (a lot more than what she cut) into the pan, sprinkling salt, pepper, some spices.
(No longer whispering)
“So I first prepare lunch for my sweet darling Vernon, and my 6 year old boy Duddykins. He loves the grilled chicken salad a lot. I’m also adding in an extra sandwich or two in my husband's, because Vernon gets hungry sometimes, all those meetings, you know?”
Cutting bread, she lathers some sauce (container visible in foreground with brand logo), and inserts chicken filling.
She carefully adds the chicken salad—featuring sautéd capsicum, broccoli, and lettuce—into two large two-tiered lunchboxes. The grilled, crisp golden sandwiches are added to the second tier.
“For breakfast I’m going to go for a healthy option—”
Shows a drawer full of shiny cutlery, and brings out white ceramic bowls to scoop out large amounts of yoghurt and oats.
A final shot of the table neatly set up with three bowls, two large and one slightly smaller, each identically prepared with yoghurt, oats, raspberries and blueberries.
Cut to a clock —
“It’s now 6:50 am, which is perfect time to wake up my two darling boys. See you tomorrow!”
#petunia evans dursley#harry potter#ciden writes#spending time offscreen and this thought appears out of nowhere—this role is so perfect for Tuney <3

First Date (Japril Season 17 Imagine)
Age Rating: 12+
Chapters: One of One
Fandom: Grey’s Anatomy
Ship: Jackson Avery x April Kepner
Canon Episode: Season 17 episode 8
AN: Hey guys! Sorry for the long absence, I’ve been busy with school and I’ve had the cold the last week so I didn’t feel like writing one shots and I know it’s late but I hope you like this Valentine’s gift to you guys. Like, share and reblog and let me know what you think.
Summary: Jackson and April have their first date with meals Jackson learned to cook on his nature walks. The date is awkward at first but eventually they find their footing.
Words: 2360
May 4th, 2020
April blows an exhausted breath out as she unlocks the bathroom door ready to relax on her first date with Jackson. She is clad in her casual clothes with her hair slightly damp from the shower she rushed in when she walked in. Since this morning, she has been antsy over what’s gonna happen tonight hoping it turns out well. April has figured out that this date would be their first real date as single people instead of as a married couple which makes her sweaty and nervous.
The first thing that hits her as she heads down the stairs is music over the stereo. It paralyzes her for a moment as it’s the same kind of music Jackson would play when they had dinner together at their last home. She smiles before reaching the first floor allowing the next wave to hit her nose. April smells meat, sweets and fruit that makes her follow the scent to the kitchen where she sees a spread of food across the dining table.
“Hi.” Jackson enters the kitchen with a grin dressed in a black button down and dark pants that makes him look especially handsome to April who regrets not bringing date clothes to change into.
“Hi.” April looks at the dinner impressed, “Wow I gotta say you really know how to knock a first date out of the park, is that Kenny G on the stereo?”
Jackson chuckles before approaching April, “Well I have a lot of time at home since we can’t go out anymore, so I thought why not go all out for our first official date?”
April looks down at her gray t shirt and green army pants that she is wearing in distaste, “Now I feel bad because I am really underdressed for this evening you planned out so beautifully, sorry.”
Jackson smirks pulling his ex-wife in for a quick hug and kissing the top of her head, “You look beautiful. Now come sit and prepare to have your taste buds reawakened.”
April looks enthralled by this as he pulls a chair out for her in the dining table and she sits wondering what her current date has planned for the evening. Her attention turns to the mason jars by their plates that are filled with red pink drinks and topped with basil leaves. April inspects her drink that she has never seen before.
“It’s watermelon basil shrub.” Jackson explains taking a seat next to April, “It’s a drink I learned to make at the monastery. It’s supposed to replenish you, you can drink it, you can add it to the salad, it’s like a liquid swiss army knife.”
“That’s not very encouraging.” April says with a grin before taking a cautious sip from the jar and sampling the pink drink. She hums in approval, “It’s not bad, great actually.”
“See I told you.” Jackson pulls a bowl filled with seasoned green beans that make April moan as the smell takes over her senses, “Now for the main course.”
“Which is?” April asks excited for what’s to come next.
“Parmesan chicken from the air fryer with broccoli on the side.”
“It sounds very healthy.”
“Well I was thinking of going all out with the carbs but I remembered our health system needs to be in tiptop shape so I opted for protein and vegetables.” Jackson tells April who nods not seeing a problem with this, “But don’t worry it tastes just the same as regular chicken.”
“It smells like regular chicken. I can’t wait to see what you came up with for dessert.”
“One course at a time, for now we’re just gonna eat and talk while we wait for that heavenly chicken.”
April nods before taking a bite of the green beans washing it down with her drink. All day long her mind has been going over scenarios of how tonight was gonna play out after she walked through that door. The beans that she just ate taste magnificent, but her stomach has a hard rock in it that has formed from jitters that continue to grow this very second. Little does she know that Jackson shares her feelings as well behind his cool expression.
It isn’t until now he can register the nerves in his body that usually come from a big test or in this case dinner with the woman he loves. Jackson taps his fingers against the table trying to come up with how to start a conversation. This first date isn’t like a regular first date for him especially when it involves his ex-wife and the mother of his children.
He sips his water before starting, “So uh…how was work?”
April looks surprised by that trivial question that has hardly been asked in their marriage, “It was good, super busy you know how it is.”
“Yeah, I do. Hospital is starting to get it’s bearings down with the covid. We finally got a shipment of new masks and face shields after Koracick botched it up.”
April groans lightly, “I’m jealous I would kill for a mask I haven’t dumped in bleach and tied the straps with duct tape. We’re trying to get supplies, but the county funds us and they’re too busy to listen to our concerns.”
“You just say the word and I’ll have the foundation expand its resources for your clinic.”
“If city hall isn’t gonna spend five minutes listening to us, I don’t think a multibillion dollar foundation will care about the multiple issues the homeless community face.” April points out bitterly before ranting, “I mean it was bad for them before the virus, they didn’t have enough resources for checkups at free clinics, the shelters didn’t have enough beds for them and this city is making itself into a giant condo displacing the population from one location to the next. And then there’s the PD’s vendetta arresting the homeless population under that bridge for trespassing even though it’s a public space and don’t even get me started on Michael Dixon. The smug entitled incompetent power-hungry garbage that actually barged into my clinic with his uniformed goons and arrested my patient for shoplifting three water bottles. Do you want to know what I was talking to her about before she got arrested?”
“I’m sure your about to tell me.” Jackson says listening attentively at April’s side of her workplace.
“I was talking to her about therapists I know at the VA who could help her with her PTSD.” April tells Jackson in frustration over the systemic downfalls she witnesses every day, “Two tours in Iraq and how do the cops repay her? By arresting her for stealing items so she doesn’t die of thirst. God it is-it’s…”
April looks up to see Jackson grinning at her ranting causing her to grin at herself for going off on a first date and possibly ruining it, “I’m sorry. I went down the advocate rabbit hole, didn’t I?”
“Yes.” Jackson answers with a grin pleased at this side of her, “But oddly enough I like it especially you calling Dixon out for the barely sustainable scum he is. I can’t imagine how much you were smiling when he got arrested.”
“I almost cracked open a bottle of champagne to celebrate.” Jackson chuckles at that while April looks confused, “Wait how do you know Dixon? Did you give him a chin implant or a CT to prove he had a heart?”
“No.” Jackson says chuckling, “I met him once when I was working with Warren at the PRT. Five minutes into an uncomfortable conversation I told him I was a plastic surgeon, and he said it must be nice to make women have better and more appropriate appearances for a living.”
April groans at that sexist comment, “God he is awful.”
“You, me and the entire first responder community can agree to that.” Jackson takes a bite of his bread roll as the awkward silence returns once they finished the subject of Dixon.
April chews the inside of her cheek as her nerves return while racking her brain for another conversation starter, “So um…do you have any hobbies?”
Jackson is surprised by this question that makes him chuckle feeling the tension leave the room as April joins him finding her own question funny as well.
“Oh god are we being crazy here? Why are we so nervous tonight?” Jackson asks genuinely curious.
“Because in the last decade we have exhausted every topic that one would normally talk about on a first date.”
“And a second date.” Jackson adds in agreement.
“And every date actually.” April sips her water, “I mean really what else do we have left to talk about?”
“Well, it’s a good thing I’ve got about two years of spontaneous adventures to fill in the awkward silence.” Jackson offers, “And you’ve been busy lately too from what you told me.”
April grins, “So much so that I am very much out of my element here and it’s when the world is falling apart and with the person I have so much history with it should include at least 5 volumes. So this is very nerve racking.”
“Yeah, I know how you feel believe me.”
April chuckles lightly at Jackson’s statement, “I doubt that you’ve done this so many times with so many women before and after we got together.”
Jackson frowns slightly at that, caught off guard by her very true statement. Ever since they divorced Jackson has been in relationships with Maggie and Vic with little gaps in between. At the time he felt little to no worry when he was on dates with the both of them unlike how he feels now sitting across from April.
He always took that as a good sign that he wasn’t nervous with Maggie or Vic but lately he realized it wasn’t because he had doubts about being with April. It was because she was unlike any woman he dated and she brought out a vulnerable side to him he has kept to himself for so long. It’s a side he felt like he could express to her and decides to start their first attempt at reconciliation by making it known to her so she can relax.
“You know growing up, my mom and grandpa taught me to keep my cool and not let my emotions get the better of me. Be the perfect doctor, the perfect surgeon, it’s practically my family’s logo.” Jackson starts with April listening, “They wanted me to carry on the Avery legacy and be the opposite of my father. When your raised like that it’s hard to…it’s hard to really let anyone in. I just didn’t know how to turn that part of me off and having strangers undermine me the second they heard my name didn’t help. And then I met you at Mercy West.”
April grins at that memory when they started their residency, “And you asked about my family which I expected. But after that you treated me like you treated everyone else. You made me feel like I could talk to you about anything even when you were rambling that first day. There was just…there was just something about you.”
April grins embarrassed of herself back then, “Oh yeah I had a diary like a teenager.”
“It was red.” Jackson smiles at that tidbit about his ex-wife back when he knew her as an insecure intern.
April smiles at him remembering that, “Why are you telling me this?”
“I’m saying that I am as nervous about this date as you are because I am with the woman who makes it impossible for me to go behind my cool and aloof shield.” Jackson explains with a grin before reaching over and holding April’s hand. She clasps her hand around his feeling the spark they’ve fought off for years, “And even if I am worried about us getting this wrong again, I want to believe that in the end we come back to each other. I want to believe that maybe just maybe we finally got our timing right.”
April sighs at that confession feeling the weight lift off her shoulders that has been present all day, “I want to believe it too. I really, really want to. But what happens if we get it wrong again?”
Jackson narrows his eyes at that question confused, “I-I know I was the one who suggested we go on dates and set ground rules and do things differently this time but what if it doesn’t work? I don’t know if I can survive us imploding again. I don’t know if I can get Harriet’s hopes up and crush them. I’m afraid we’re not gonna come back from that again, aren’t you?”
Jackson brushes her knuckles with his thumb in comfort, “I…I can’t predict the future. I don’t know what’s gonna happen tonight, I don’t know if our ground rules are gonna help get us on the right track. And yes, I am afraid this will all be for nothing and we’ll end up worse than the last time. But the one thing I do know is that I don’t want to live life without you.”
April’s eyes glisten at this heartfelt declaration, “No matter what happens, no matter how this thing between us goes, no matter what state the world is in, I want you in my life. And if we both really want a fresh start like we said then we gotta start somewhere. What do you say?”
April inhales taking a moment to collect her thoughts before answering with a question, “So where are you from?”
Jackson chuckles letting go of her hand, “Boston and you? I’m getting a farmer vibe from you.”
April scoffs amused, “A farmer vibe? Should I be offended?”
“No and I’m not just saying that to get a second date out of this.”
“I hope so.” They continue to casually converse and eat feeling more at ease with each other and enjoying this moment where the world and their problems are far away and instead it’s just the two of them beginning the road to their new start.

Hump Day
We're just 71 days into 2025, and so far I'm not a fan. The world is a dumpster fire and our "leaders" are tossing gasoline on it. Staying uninformed is not an option, but a steady diet of doom and gloom is not healthy. I'm forever trying to strike a balance. Finding ways to distract myself usually involves making something, growing something, eating something, or my favorite - buying something. Unfortunately I'm boycotting both Target and Amazon, which is about as much fun as a bad rash. I get so many of my craft supplies through Amazon (less expensive and free shipping) and because of our location, loads of other things. I'd rather click "add to cart" on Amazon than drive the 30 minutes to a store in Easton. I also use Amazon to avoid extra purchases. For example, I love Mrs. Meyers Multi-Surface Cleaner (peony is my favorite).
I can order a couple bottles from Amazon and save about a buck. If I go into a store to buy it, I'll roam around and toss a few other things into my basket, maybe wander over to the toy section to see what's new for the grandgirl. So instead of spending $8 for two bottles I'd spend $58 on miscellaneous goods - some we need and some we don't. Right now I'm down to my last few squirts of my cleanser and my options are slim. Go to Target (won't), order from Amazon (won't), order from Walmart online (yuck), or subscribe to Grove and have to order stuff every month (won't). *sigh* I may have to give up my favorite, fragrant cleanser. Rats. I know, I know, first world problem. Not even worth writing about. Since I'm not buying anything, I'm focusing on the other three pillars of staying sane. Making stuff - Still cranking out everything from cards to birdhouses. Might be time to learn how to whittle or make soap. Growing stuff - I'm trying, good grief, am I trying. I have such plans for this spring and summer. I've got seed trays planted, a little greenhouse full of hopefuls, and the mister is putting together a raised bed for me. We have a dirt delivery tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited.

I've always loved gardening. I love watching the first green shoots pop up, I even love the weeding. I've done some of my best thinking on my knees in the dirt. The rewards are splendid, from picking sun-ripened tomatoes to filling the house with bouquets. I don't even mind sharing the bounty with local wildlife as long as they're not greedy. Am I jumping the gun? Probably. All I can tell you is that focusing on seeds and plants is keeping me out of handcuffs.
Moving on, last but certainly not least - eating stuff. I tend to fill my plate with high protein, high fiber choices, mostly lean meats, eggs, and veggies. My morning scramble is usually a couple of eggs and a 1/4 cup of cottage cheese whisked together with plenty of pepper. I start red onion and kale in a skillet...

and once the kale wilts and the onion is tender I pour in the egg mixture. YUM. Once it's in my bowl a good sprinkle of nutritional yeast gives it a cheesy flavor and another wallop of protein.

Yes, I do eat from my Halloween bowl every morning. It makes me happy, mind yo' business.
Today I had a taco salad for lunch - just greens, veggies, and avocado with some seasoned ground turkey on top. Tonight we're having salads topped with grilled chicken for dinner. That's why I don't feel one bit guilty for grabbing a mixing bowl and whipping up some lemon poppyseed muffins. Not going to lie, it was only because I've been dying to make something that worthy of a sprinkle of dried flowers. I recently watched every episode of With love, Meghan and her liberal use of dried flowers on everything from salted sea bass to homemade donuts inspired me. While I don't believe a donut has ever passed her lips, I'm a huge fan of making things pretty. Sign me up for the flower brigade! I baked the muffins, made a quick glaze, dunked the muffins in the glaze, and gave them a very light sprinkle of edible flowers.

Not princess-worthy, but it made me happy. That was the goal.
I failed to include what is probably my favorite distraction from the madness. Reading! Books are the most wonderful escape of all, and I've had my nose in books since I first made friends with the alphabet. I read fiction, non-fiction, memoirs, how-to, pretty much anything. Today I picked up a book I'd requested from my library and I'm already finding it fascinating.

Here's the blurb:
Eliot Stein has traveled the globe in search of remarkable people who are preserving some of our most extraordinary cultural rites. In Custodians of Wonder: Ancient Customs, Profound Traditions, and the Last People Keeping Them Alive, Stein introduces readers to a man saving the secret ingredient in Japan's 700-year-old original soy sauce recipe. In Italy, he learns how to make the world's rarest pasta from one of the only women alive who knows how to make it. And in India, he discovers a family rumored to make a mysterious metal mirror believed to reveal your truest self. From shadowing Scandinavia's last night watchman to meeting a 27th-generation West African griot to tracking down Cuba's last official cigar factory “readers” more than a century after they spearheaded the fight for Cuban independence, Stein uncovers an almost lost world. Climbing through Peru’s southern highlands, he encounters the last Inca bridge master who rebuilds a grass-woven bridge every year from the fabled Inca Road System. He befriends a British beekeeper who maintains a touching custom of "telling the bees" important news of the day. And he crunches through a German forest to find the official mailman of the only tree in the world with its own address – to which countless people from across the world have written in hopes of finding love. These are just some of the last custodians preserving age-old rites on the brink of disappearance against all odds. Let Eliot Stein introduce you to all of them. What an interesting read! Three other holds came in and I downloaded those as well, so I'm going to happily plow through them.
That last title could be considered a how-to book, I'll get back to you on that. I'd better read it before it's banned. There you have it, the ways I'm keeping my spirits afloat while the headlines give me every reason to dissolve into despair. I'm well aware that this is boring fodder, no one gives a flip about my scrambled eggs. I made a promise to myself to get back to writing, and this blog is a good place to blow the dust off my brain and practice. It's unfortunate that I have so little to write about, maybe the arrival of spring will provide topics. I'm being 100% honest when I say that tomorrow's dirt delivery is the most exciting thing on the calendar for March. You can expect a full report. Until then, chin up, my darling! Yes, so much is awful right now, but we must be joyful warriors. Feed your souls and make them strong.

Read a good book, eat a muffin, laugh with friends, grow flowers. That happiness is armor. Go out and spread love, they can't stop us. Sending loads of hugs. Stay safe, stay well, be kind to yourself. XOXO, Nancy

carrot salad - carrots! carrots r an amazing source of vitamin A and isn't only beneficial for ur skin, but also ur eyesight, and ur immune system; for the recipe i'd wash a carrot and shave it, then add one cap of apple cider vinegar and olive oil, with salt and pepper and i'll eat that as a side dish along with my meal
cucumber salad - cucumbers r also an amazing source of hydration and is great for ur skin. just slice a couple cucumbers and add olive oil, salt, pepper, and chili flakes
meditteranean salad - dice cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion, and make a vinaigrette using lemon, olive oil, and salt and pepper and add those all together with some basil for a hydrating delicious salad
SNACKS -
pan con tómate - its simply toasted bread with oil, grated tomatoes, garlic, salt and pepper
apple slices and peanut butter
frozen grapes with lime juice on top
literally any assortment of veggies with lime juice and salt
sliced fruit bowls with lemon juice
DINNERS -
how i make tofu - so i always use firm tofu and i'll dry it with a paper towel just to make sure that its dry (make sure to drain the excess water) and on a separate plate i'd add some flour, and seasonings of my choice. then coat the tofu in the flour and put it on a hot pan (approximately 5 min per side of tofu) or until its crispy, and then i'll make a sauce, usually with soy sauce, ginger and honey.
cucumber sushi - i'd wash and shave cucumbers, then take the shavings and lay them out as though it was wrapping paper (if that makes sense) then dry it with a paper towel so that the ingredients can stick onto it. then i'd fill it with sticky rice, sauces, tuna sometimes, or literally anything u wanna fill it with and then roll it up like u would do with sushi and cut it into pieces.
SANDWICHES -
sandwich one - take a hard boiled egg and break it down in a bowl, and add some mayo and mustard (trust) to create a paste like mixture. spread all that onto some bread. then add some lettuce, tomato, and cucumber.
BREAKFASTS -
overnight oats - in a container, add some oats, greek yogurt, chia seeds, honey, fruits of choice (i often use strawberries or blueberries) and almond milk and then shake that up and let it stay in the fridge overnight for an easy breakfast in the morning.
chia seed pudding - add three tablespoons of chia seeds into a container, half a cup of almond milk, one teaspoon of vanilla extract, and some honey (add coco powder if u like chocolate) and then put that in the fridge overnight.

The Healthiest and Unhealthiest Seafood Dishes You Need to Know!
Choosing seafood dishes can be tricky. This guide helps you pick the best and avoid the worst. Find out which dishes are full of omega-3s and which might add too much sodium or additives.
Whether you're cooking at home or eating out, we explain what makes some seafood healthy and others not so much. See how cooking and ingredients can turn a healthy meal into a calorie-heavy one.
delight, perfectly aligning with the article's subject and section title.
Key Takeaways
Best seafood options like grilled salmon provide heart-healthy omega-3s.
Worst seafood choices often include fried or battered varieties.
Unhealthy seafood can hide sodium or additives, reducing nutritional value.
Cooking methods like baking or steaming boost health benefits over frying.
Prioritizing low-mercury, wild-caught options keep meals nutritious and safe.
Why Your Seafood Choices Matter for Health
Choosing the right seafood is more than just about taste. It affects your health and the planet. Let's explore how seafood nutrition and ethical sourcing impact your well-being.
Nutritional Profile of Seafood
Seafood is full of essential nutrients. Fatty fish like salmon and mackerel are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. These acids are good for your heart and brain. Whitefish and shellfish offer lean protein, while oysters and clams are good sources of zinc and iron.
Omega-3s reduce inflammation linked to chronic diseases
Vitamins D and B12 support immunity and energy
Low in saturated fats compared to red meat
How Seafood Fits Into a Balanced Diet
Adding seafood to your meals can meet dietary guidelines. Aim for 2-3 servings a week. This can replace higher-fat proteins. Here's a quick guide:
Type
Omega-3 (mg/serving)
Protein (g)
Salmon
2,260
22g
Shrimp
230
24g
Sardines
1,400
21g
Pair seafood with veggies and whole grains for a balanced meal. Look for sustainable seafood labels to support health and ethics.
Environmental and Ethical Considerations
Choosing sustainable seafood helps ocean ecosystems thrive. Overfished species like bluefin tuna harm marine life. Look for MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) and ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council) labels for responsibly sourced seafood. Sustainable choices align seafood in diet with health and environmental goals.
The Nutritional Powerhouses: Top Healthy Seafood Dishes
Some seafood dishes are packed with nutrients. They offer great health benefits without extra calories or additives. These nutritious fish dishes are perfect for those who want to eat healthy.
Grilled wild salmon with herbs: This dish is full of omega-3 rich seafood. It has anti-inflammatory benefits and vitamin D. Cooking on a cedar plank adds flavor without oil.
Steamed mussels in broth: A low-calorie seafood choice, it's rich in lean protein and iron. Try it with garlic-lemon broth for extra vitamin C.
Baked cod with lemon-dill: This white fish is low in calories but high in protein. Season it with citrus and herbs instead of butter.
Tuna poke bowls: Sashimi-grade ahi tuna is a great source of omega-3s. Add edamame, avocado, and seaweed salad for extra fiber and minerals.

"These dishes show how seafood can be both healthy and tasty," says registered dietitian Dr. Emily Carter. "Using whole foods and simple cooking methods boosts their health benefits."
It's important to control portion sizes. Aim for 4-6 oz servings to keep protein balanced. Add sides like roasted veggies or quinoa for a complete meal. Avoid breading or creamy sauces to keep dishes light and tasty. These tips make it easy to enjoy seafood's health benefits without losing flavor.
Wild-Caught vs. Farm-Raised: Understanding the Difference
Your seafood choices affect your health and the planet. Let's explore the differences between wild-caught fish and farm-raised seafood. This will help you make better choices.
Nutritional Variations Between Wild and Farmed Fish
Wild-caught fish are often leaner and have more omega-3s because of their natural diet. Farm-raised seafood, raised in controlled environments, might have more fats from processed feeds. For instance, wild salmon has more protein per serving than farmed salmon.
However, some farms now use sustainable feeds to close this nutritional gap.
Environmental Impact Considerations
Wild-caught fishing can harm delicate species. Sustainable fishing methods protect ecosystems, but not all follow these practices. Farm-raised seafood can reduce pressure on wild stocks but may pollute waters.
Look for certifications like ASC or BAP to ensure aquaculture meets eco-standards.
Taste and Texture Differences
Wild-caught fish have firmer flesh and unique flavors from their ocean diets. Farm-raised options are softer and milder. Shrimp from farms might taste sweeter, while wild-caught shrimp have a brinier taste.
Texture differences are important in dishes like sushi or soups, where mouthfeel matters.
Both wild-caught and farm-raised seafood have their advantages and disadvantages. Choose sustainable fishing practices for wild options. For farm-raised, look for certified brands that balance nutrition and ethics.
Popular Seafood Dishes Ranked by Health Benefits
Start by looking at this seafood nutritional ranking. Choose dishes that are good for you and not too risky.

Omega-3 Rich Options
At the top, are the best fish for omega-3 like salmon (2.3g per 3-oz serving) and mackerel (1.8g). Choose baked or grilled to keep nutrients in. Sardines and herring are also good, perfect for salads or snacks.
Salmon: 2,200 mg omega-3 per serving
Mackerel: 1,800 mg
Sardines: 1,400 mg
Low-Mercury Selections
For eating often, pick low-mercury seafood like shrimp, scallops, and clams. Tilapia and catfish are also safe, with mercury under 0.1 ppm. They're great in soups or stir-fries.SeafoodMercury (ppm)Shrimp0.023Scallops0.021Clams0.012
Protein-Packed Choices
Look for high-protein seafood like grilled tuna (26g protein/serving) or shrimp stir-fry (23g). Ceviche and seafood stews also have 20-25g protein. They keep you full and give you energy.
Remember, how it's cooked matters. Grilling or steaming keeps nutrients better than frying. This guide helps you enjoy tasty food that's also good for you.
Red Flags: The Unhealthiest Seafood Preparations to Avoid
Choosing the right seafood means knowing what to steer clear of. Unhealthy seafood dishes often masquerade as favorites, but their downsides are significant. Fried fish, like battered cod or crispy shrimp baskets, is a big no-no. These dishes load up on empty calories and trans fats, losing the omega-3 benefits.
Fried Fish: Breading and deep frying increase calorie counts. Choose grilled or baked options instead.
Cream-Based Soups: New England clam chowder or seafood alfredo are high in saturated fats and sodium.
Smoked and Canned Options: Smoked salmon or canned tuna in oil are high in sodium. They're seafood to avoid for those watching sodium.
“The breading in fried seafood isn’t just crispy—it’s a calorie trap. Opt for blackened or roasted alternatives to keep nutrients intact.”
Restaurant high-sodium seafood dishes can have over 1,500mg sodium in one serving—almost the daily limit. Always check labels on prepackaged items and ask about cooking methods when eating out. Swapping creamy sauces for lemon or herbs reduces calories without sacrificing taste. Being aware is crucial: these seafood to avoid can still be enjoyed in moderation with careful choices.
How Cooking Methods Transform Your Seafood's Health Profile
Choosing the right way to cook fish and seafood can make them healthier. Cooking seafood healthily means keeping nutrients like omega-3s and vitamins. Let’s look at how different cooking methods affect nutrient preservation and flavor.

Healthiest Cooking Techniques
Steaming: Keeps moisture and nutrients in. Great for delicate fish like cod or sole.
Grilling: Use a grill basket to keep healthy oils in. Marinate with olive oil and herbs for extra taste.
Baking: Season with lemon and dill. Try salmon baked at 375°F for 15-20 minutes.
Poaching: Simmer in broth or white wine. This method adds nutrients without extra fats.
Methods to Avoid
Some cooking methods add too many calories:
Frying in oil: Adds over 100 calories per serving.
Cream-based sauces: Increase fat content by double.
Breading or deep-frying: Adds more calories than baking.
Preserving Nutrients During Cooking
Here are tips to keep nutrients in your food:
Cook at lower temps (below 375°F) to prevent omega-3 breakdown.
Use acidic ingredients like lime juice (as in ceviche) to protect vitamin C.
Reuse cooking liquids (broth or water) in soups to capture soluble vitamins.

Hidden Dangers: Additives and Ingredients in Prepared Seafood Dishes
Seafood additives and hidden ingredients in fish can turn a healthy meal into a source of unwanted chemicals. Many processed seafood products use preservatives to extend shelf life or improve appearance. These choices matter for your health.
Sodium phosphates in fish fillets to retain moisture, which may strain kidney function.
Nitrites in smoked seafood that could form harmful compounds during cooking.
Artificial colors like red 3 in imitation crab, linked to allergic reactions.
AdditivePurposeHealth RisksAlternativeSodium PhosphatesMoisture retentionElectrolyte imbalanceFresh fish without additivesHigh-Fructose Corn SyrupSweetness in saucesAdded sugarsLow-sugar dipping sauces
Processed seafood risks also come from breading filled with refined carbs and hydrogenated oils in frying. Check labels for terms like "modified starch" or "partially hydrogenated oils"—these signal hidden ingredients in fish dishes. When dining out, ask servers about marinades or coatings. Opt for grilled or broiled options to avoid seafood preservatives. A simple rule: fewer ingredients on the label often mean better choices.
Stay informed to protect your health. Always read packaging and ask questions when eating out. Small steps like this help you enjoy seafood’s benefits without the hidden risks.
Seafood Dishes From Around the World: Health Heroes and Villains
Seafood traditions from around the globe bring us tasty and nutritious dishes. Let's dive into how Mediterranean, Asian, and American seafood balance flavor and health. This way, we can make better choices.
Mediterranean Seafood Traditions
Mediterranean fish dishes are all about fresh ingredients and simple flavors. Grilled octopus with olive oil and lemon is a great source of omega-3s. Spain's paella and Italy's acqua pazza also stand out for their use of herbs and light broths.
These methods help keep nutrients in the food. They support heart-healthy diets.
Asian Seafood Preparations
Healthy Asian seafood is known for its light and fresh flavors. Japanese sashimi and Vietnamese pho are great examples. They use raw fish or light broths.
But, avoid dishes with tempura batter or sugary sauces. They add empty calories. Korean kimchi stews are a good choice for flavor without too much oil.
American Seafood Favorites
American seafood culture includes classics like New England boils and Louisiana gumbo. Shrimp and corn in boils are healthy. But, fried catfish or dishes with cheese add unhealthy fats.
Opt for broiled or blackened seafood instead. They offer a protein boost without extra grease.
Enjoying Mediterranean fish dishes or healthy Asian seafood is a great way to explore global flavors. Focus on herbs, citrus, and broths. This supports international seafood health goals.
Special Dietary Concerns: Seafood for Different Health Needs
For those with seafood allergies, picking the right seafood is key. Always check for cross-reactivity risks. Opt for well-cooked dishes to reduce allergen exposure. Pregnant individuals should choose low-mercury seafood like salmon or cod. These provide omega-3s important for fetal brain development without risks.
Supporting seafood for heart health means choosing fatty fish like mackerel or sardines. Their omega-3s help lower triglycerides and reduce heart disease risks. For low-cholesterol seafood options, lean choices like cod, haddock, or shrimp are great. They fit well into heart-healthy diets when prepared without added fats.
“Omega-3 rich seafood supports cardiovascular function and prenatal development when chosen wisely.”
Heart health: Prioritize mackerel, sardines, and trout.
Pregnancy: Avoid swordfish and shark; favor salmon and pollock.
Allergies: Stick to thoroughly cooked options and consult allergists before trying new species.
Cholesterol management: Opt for baked or grilled cod, herring, or clams.
Consult healthcare providers for personalized advice. Small changes, like swapping fried calamari for grilled shrimp, can make meals safe and nourishing. Always read labels and ask about preparation methods to align choices with health goals.
Making Smart Choices: How to Order Seafood at Restaurants
Enjoying seafood at restaurants doesn’t mean you have to give up on health. Follow these steps to make smart ordering healthy seafood choices. Choose better restaurant seafood options every time.
Questions to Ask Your Server
Empower your choices with these simple questions:
“How is this fish prepared?” (Grilled or baked beats fried)
“Is this wild-caught or farm-raised?”
“Can you prepare it without added butter or salt?”
Menu Red Flags
Watch for terms like:
Crispy (fried or breaded)
Creamy (often high in saturated fats)
Au gratin (cheese-laden sauces)
These dishes often add 300+ extra calories. Opt for items labeled “grilled” or “poached” instead.
Healthier Substitutions to Request
Ask for these swaps to upgrade your meal:
Swap fries for steamed veggies or a side salad
Request sauces on the side
Choose shrimp or scallops over battered fish
At fast-casual spots, prioritize grilled salmon bowls. Even in fine dining, ask chefs to omit breading or use olive oil instead of butter.
“The menu is your roadmap—ask questions and make swaps to keep dishes light and nutritious.”
Conclusion: Balancing Enjoyment and Health in Your Seafood Choices
A balanced seafood diet doesn't mean you have to choose between taste and health. Opt for dishes like grilled mackerel or baked cod. They're full of omega-3s and are light on the preparation side. This way, you fuel your body and help the planet.
It's okay to treat yourself to dishes like crispy fish tacos or creamy bisque. Just make sure to add veggies or whole grains to keep things balanced. Asking chefs about where their seafood comes from and how it's prepared is a good start. Making small changes, like choosing broiled over fried, can make a big difference over time.
Trying new recipes or enjoying sashimi-grade tuna at a trusted sushi spot can make your choices exciting. Remember, it's about progress, not perfection. Whether you're grilling at home or dining out, make informed choices. Enjoy every bite, knowing you're taking care of your health and the oceans.

my deathrow meal (a speech for english class)
hello blawg. i wrote my speech for english in an hour, the day before it was due, and i want to share it because i think it fits whatever theme i have going on at the moment. for brief context (you will find out why in my speech): i had a slide presentation that went with this. visual aid of the glorious menu i constructed. okay happy reading!
My Death Row Meal
This speech was originally supposed to be divulging a much more serious topic (such as the generational decline in media literacy), but I wasn’t able to keep it under the five minute time crunch. In a wild mental race with myself, trying to come up with another equally interesting subject, I decided: why not just do something more lighthearted, something with more appeal? So, I present to you the topic of my speech: “What would Sadie like to eat for her death row meal?”
Now, how this situation became a possibility is unfathomable to me, however I don’t want to be wasting my precious presentation time coming up with ways that I could have gotten into such deep legal trouble.
Just a quick disclaimer!!! For the gargantuan amount of food that I’m about to list off, I need to clarify that I’m technically bending the rules here. This will not be one meal, but rather me listing off the whole day’s worth of food. Breakfast, a snack, lunch, a second snack, dinner, and dessert.
Time for breakfast! I will request a savoury breakfast bagel sandwich, which I will construct myself. First, an everything bagel – New York style – with cream cheese, Red Hot hot sauce, and horseradish mustard. (Side note: I couldn’t find an appetizing picture of horseradish mustard but just pretend that it’s on there). Second will be the produce. This includes sliced heirloom tomatoes, arugula, some pickled red onions, some cucumbers for the crunch, and avocados. Third and final will be the protein: maple bacon and an egg, we’re keeping it simple! Normally, I would request a fried egg for the runny yolk, but this sandwich is pretty stuffed so I think I’ll just go with cheesy scrambled eggs as a way of preventing a big mess. (You know how it always ends up with a big sandwich, everything just starts to slop out onto your plate! A runny yolk, in addition to that, sounds like a bit of a nightmare). This concoction will be paired with a foamy cappuccino. 2% milk.
Anyways. For my first snack I want a large, iced, ceremonial grade, glorious matcha, with coconut milk (trust), topped with the Starbucks vanilla cold foam. This will be guzzled down my throat in maximum twenty minutes, but as a way of prolonging the life of my drink, this will come with a bowl of sliced, perfectly ripe peaches. To be healthy!
Lunchtime roles around. What do I want? Hmmm… I actually want a Subway sandwich, but since I’ve already had a sandwich for breakfast… We’re going to order some Chipotle. A burrito bowl! A scoop of white rice, and some chicken, then some black beans, and then guacamole, and sour cream, and cheese, then some lettuce, some fresh tomato salsa, and some tomatillo-green chili salsa… and then with that, a side of chips. I’m anticipating this to taste like I licked my grandma’s salt lamp, so to drink I will have a crisp Arizona iced green tea, straight from the can.
For my second snack – my sneaky, not-so-little snack – I’m going to eat a whole bag of Goldfish crackers, and, to balance it out, a mean glass of iced water.
Dinner. This is going to be a bit wild, since none of these foods would normally be put together. For an appetizer, crispy truffle fries with a garlic dip. Next, I’m going to have a greek salad with NO OLIVES! (Are you kidding me? Don’t joke with me). Now, for the real feast, a hefty, hot bowl of spicy beef ramen. I’ve made the decision to not include a drink in this meal, due to its rather large portion, though after the ramen I definitely regret not having something to ease the deepest pits of hell that are escaping out of my tongue and cascading down my throat with every swallow. I just know that if I consume one more thing, even just a pathetic drop of my spit, I think I will actually explode and throw up everywhere… So…
Finally, for my desert, I want some gooey tiramisu. But not your regular tiramisu, no, no, no! This needs to have been made by Donatella Versace’s nonna. (...She was the only Italian person that I could think of).
After the whole day of eating like royalty, I go to bed in my sad prison cell with a smile, despite my ultimate fate the next day: the electric chair. Thank you for listening to Sadie’s death row meal!
