Nightmare House: Reimagined announced for PC - Gematsu

In Sound Mind developer We Create Stuff has announced Nightmare House: Reimagined, a recreation of its Half-Life 2 horror mod Nightmare House 2, rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5 as a standalone game with a revamped story, enhanced mechanics, and new content. It will launch for PC via Steam in 2025.

Welcome back to Nightmare House. Delve into an action-packed, first-person horror experience based on the legendary Half-Life 2 horror mod Nightmare House 2. No matter where you’re heading or what you’re doing, you can’t help but feel like you’re being watched. Equipped with your reliable axe, tread through the terrors of an abandoned house and desperately look for a way to break free from this nightmare. How long will it take you to realize that escape was never an option? In this reimagined version, we’ve decided to solely focus on the house from the first chapter of the original game. We took the house and massively expanded it into a full-fledged game. There are new rooms, secrets, dangers and deep lore to uncover. She’s waiting for you.

Story

The game begins with the player character waking up in a mysterious, abandoned house. No matter where you’re heading and what you’re doing, you feel like you’re being watched. Search the house to uncover her secrets. Explore every corner to reveal unspoken truths as you overcome the nightmares heading your way.

Wow, apparently that old Half-Life mod Nightmare House is getting a remake. I forgot all about Nightmare House, one of my fave horror game things to watch back in the day

like honestly just give your non binary characters traditionally "gendered" features. just do it. it's not like being androgynous ever stopped non binary characters from being misgendered.

frisk undertale and kris deltarune were androgynous and are only ever referred to by "they/them" and ppl are still arguing over how the "main character is not the player but their own person" message didn't apply to their genders bc they refuse to wrap their head around different pronouns. raine owlhouse was paraded around as "disney's first ever nb representation" by everyone and their mother but bc they have short hair other countries dub them as male. this also happens to most anime nb characters bc of how japanese pronouns work. halara raincode literally has the color scheme of the non binary flag AND their in-game profile says that they, and i quote "have no specified gender" AND several characters remark on it in the actual game but bc theyre voiced by a female voice actor ppl still call them a woman.

like literally at this point just give your nb characters huge tits and a massive beard. if ppl refuse to accept the existence of non binary characters in media, then there is no way to make a character non binary "enough" to convince them otherwise. no matter how much you hammer in their androgyny in an attempt to detach them from "male" and "female," there will be people determined to assign gender roles to any trait you give your character.

creators being hesitant to give their non binary characters traits that could be associated with a binary gender is why every goddamn genderqueer character that the creator wants you to take seriously in popular media has shoulder length hair and a board-flat figure and a perfectly neutrally pitched voice. like. just do what you want at this point. the character is non binary because your story said so and people who misgender them would have done that no matter how androgynous they look.

it'd been a one-off, seize-the-moment kind of thing. casual hookups aren't really for you, plus you distinctly remember your ex prating on about how the team would only be here for the weekend hence the absolute burning need to go, and you've got work monday.

goodbye, great knowing them. you'd traipsed out of the hotel room with your sneakers in hand, soap's used jersey in the other- a memento of sorts, a trophy. mild serial killer behavior but you reckon since you just became another pearl in their long string of conquests, the least you could do is take something with you that won't be gone with a warm epsom salt bath and a couple of days rest.

("would ye believe yer the prettiest we've ever brought back with us?" right. you know where you stand on that scale, and people like you don't typically pull men like them. another cringe-worthy comment like that and you'd mistake their interest with pity.)

you'd put both jerseys in the wash later that day, and the rattling of your washing machine marked the end of your exciting weekend.

or so you'd thought. from your side of things, you'd wiped your hands clean of their sweat, spit and come and went home, once again falling back into semi-familiarity, expecting to go to work feeling completely relaxed and loose, in more ways than one, while ignoring the photos taken of you and the "star players" at the stadium on social media.

when you see them again, it's by pure chance. you'd been ordering a sandwich at a deli down the street, hand already reaching for your wallet when an arm curls around your shoulders, dark, coarse hair of a forearm brushing against your cheek.

cedarwood and citrus. it clings to your senses— a sharp, tangy reminder of that time you'd only look back on when the familiar pang of want pooled searing hot between your legs. small world, you suppose.

how can he be your favorite when you know nothing about the sport they play and have no interest in knowing?
