Summary: Wei Wuxian finds himself in the Unclean Realm. Nie Mingjue finds himself wanting to keep him. The world around them finds the situation strange but it doesn't really matter. Or Everything could be completely different if Wei Wuxian's intelligence and skills were recognised and valued. Well, not absolutely everything, but most things certainly could. Kay's comments: I am currently so blessed because all my favourite writers are updating multiple WIPs and keeping me well-fed. Lyna_Mei is offering another little treat for me, a little guilty pleasure, a Nie Mingjue/Wei Wuxian story where, when Wei Wuxian gets whipped and kicked out of Lotus Pier by Madam Yu, Nie Mingjue is the one who finds him and decides to keep him, especially after it becomes evident, just what a treasure Wei Wuxian and his genius intellect are. Not for fans of the Jiang Family and also not for people who can't stomach Wangxian not being together, but for everyone else, this is a great story and you should check it out! It's also The Untamed canon, which of course makes Nie Mingjue a lot more softer/flexible than he was in the novel. Excerpt: "I am certain there were eyewitnesses," Nie Mingjue said, stopping Wei Wuxian's thoughts. There were, but two Jin disciples that were there would never go against their sect leader's nephew and Yu-furen wouldn't even want to hear about village boys. Who were a pair of commoners compared to disciples of a great sect? His head started to hurt at some point. He wanted this conversation to end and Nie Mingjue to leave or make him leave or something. Whatever. Just some quiet and peace would be nice. "Nie-zongzhu," he started firmly, "respectfully, I am a disciple that was thrown out of my sect for a serious transgression against a fellow disciple from another sect. There is no one who would tell you otherwise. Please, let this matter be." Nie Mingjue clearly didn't appreciate his advice. His anger became palpable in the room, though he tried to control himself while speaking. "What are you trying to achieve, you foolish boy? I know you haven't lied to me!"

Wei Wuxian sighed as he set his sights on Mingjue’s tall form standing at attention in front of him, and a small smile played at the ends of his lips. “Mr Nie. Always so formal and proper,” he said, shaking his head fondly. “Congratulations. You’re being promoted! You are now my personal bodyguard for the remainder of your employment!” he said, grinning at him. Mingjue blinked in surprise.

Wei Wuxian didn't show up to work even an hour later, when he loved his job and loved his kids and would never skip a day without informing him or the school first. So principal Nie Mingjue decides to do a house call to check on him, finds a sick Wei Wuxian, and gets more from him than he ever thought he would at the start of the day.

Word has probably gone back to Lanling by now. I just…” he sighed. “I know we fought. I know we’re broken up now, and you’re probably going to discard this anyway. But. I can’t help but think. If you were here… you’d know what to do. I…” he swallowed thickly, winced at the sound of a shrieking fierce corpse nearby, slipped his thumb off the sigil, and then numbly watched as the talisman assembled itself into a small bird. The bird hopped off his palm and fluttered away, disappearing into the night. Wei Wuxian tracked it as far as he could see it, before he sighed and let his head thunk back against the rock as a sudden bout of exhaustion hit him.

When Jiang Wanyin staggers into the Unclean Realm, NIe MIngjue looks for his mate, but does not see him. When he finds out Wei Wuxian was thrown into Burial Mounds he loses his mind. Wei Wuxian is the only one who can bring him back to himself to hopefully win the war.

- Punching down several trees after kissing his crush (derogatory) for the first time because he has no idea how to process emotions normally

- Randomly biting Wei Wuxian in the cave because he has no idea how to process emotions normally

- Getting absolutely shit faced for the first time in his life and destroying a bunch of shit around cloud recesses before branding himself with the mark his crush from 10 years ago also had because he- well you get it.

Maybe the answer lay in simplicity. Big gestures weren't needed, the right words weren't needed. It was enough that he was there, for Nie Mingjue, like a silent anchor amid the storm the other was facing. Maybe, he had to show him that there was no need to speak to be understood.
