Hi, I never get tired of saying how creative and talented you are ♡♡♡ I wanted to know if you would write about the Senju Clan. I know it's strange, since I haven't seen you writing anything like that and usually I don't see anything like that. I like the way you write, you're the best
Sigh. I have let this sit in my inbox way too long. I am so sorry. Thank you so much for your kind words, nonnie. I have some thoughts about the Hyuga as well, let me know if you would be interested in hearing that.
Also please note that I will change around some canon things and all of this is fanfiction/headcanon.
tagging some people i think will like reading this post: @narutobrainrotstuff , @the-real-sasuke-uchiha , @spookyphilosophertaco , @danceofthexdragons

The Senju Clan
People
Compared to the Uchiha clan, who are phenotypically rather monotonous, the Senju clan had a very diverse population with a wider range of skin tones, eye and hair colors. There were generally very little restrictions when it came to marrying into the clan and becoming a part of it. The only traits most of the Senju shared were that of fine, straight hair whilst the Uchiha had thick and dark hair with curls not being uncommon.
The reason the Senju died out were two sides of the same coin - with many of the clan's members birthing less and less children, and those who did marrying outside of the clan to the point where there are many Konoha ninjas nowadays who are part Senju but may not even know it.
Traits and Abilities
The Senju were rather unspecified, wanting to hone their skills in all three fighting styles, though I like to think that Taijutsu was one they particularly excelled in. Once one's movements were fast enough to be evaded by the base sharingan (Mangekyou sharingan was, depending on the source material, either extremely rare or nonexistent), the Senju had an easier time fighting the Uchiha. Many of them became weapons and taijutsu specialists, making me think that Tenten might be part Senju and her idolization of Tsunade was a way to connect with her roots and get to know a fellow Senju.
Another skill of the Senju was wood style, which was a skill many Senju before Hashirama posessed, but they rarely ever utilized it in battle. Said ability was caused by a point mutation in the exome, prompting Orochimaru to later carry out experiment's on embryonic DNA to artificially induce said point mutation, killing dozens of newborns in the process.
Religion
While the Uchiha followed the way of Shintōism, most of the Senju were buddhists, like their distant relatives, the Uzumaki. Initially, the people living in the country of fire were engaging in both buddhist and shintōist practices, but with the continued rise of war between the shintō-believing Uchiha and the buddhist Senju, these two religions were more or less divided.
The Senju and the Uzumaki
The establishment of Uzushiogakure in the whirlpool country was received with mixed feelings from its inhabitants. Most Uzumaki, although practiced in the arts of combat, preferred their pacifistic lifestyle of teaching their ways on paper, and not on the battlefield. This instability made it easier for the hidden mist village to send colonialist forces, killing most of the Uzumaki in fear of their congenital abilities. And with the Senju living more and more decentralized and being too occupied with themselves, Uzushiogakure lacked the manpower compared to Kiri's extermination force.
The Senju's Legacy
Nowadays, after Konoha was founded, the Senju started living more and more decentralized, therefore there wasn't such a thing as the "Senju compound". The language of the Senju was adapted as Konoha's official language, causing the other hidden villages to adapt it as well. (You can read more about my thoughts on language in the Shinobi world here.)
There were shrines for both buddhist and shintō believers in the village, but once Hashirama became the first hokage, more and more citizens adapted the Senju's religion of buddhism, with the shintō believers dwindling in numbers. Tobirama's segregation policy did not help in the slightest; although the Uchiha, who believed in family unity and support, lived closely together, being redlined and pushed into the same profession felt patronizing. But even though the Senju as a clan is no more, their legacy continues on, in good ways, and in bad.

@coup-dhashirama : [x]
Eyes sparkled in child-like wonder and heart fluttered in excitement, his lips stretched out into a wide smile that contained his burst of excitement, “Oh dear lad! You are most welcome to do so!” Oh my goodness these precious wonderful followers are making his heart burst in happiness!
Takuma reached into the pouch on the side of his legs, fingers searching for the desired item. When his pinky finger brushed across a small notepad he used for keeping notes, he pulled it out in haste and nearly dropped it in excitement.
❝I'm such a huge fan of you! This has got to be a dream; there's no way I'm actually talking with the First Hokage! Can you pinch me? No, don't, I don't want to wake up!❞

My MadaSakuSara family headcanons modern era
Sakura is ten years younger than Madara, so when Sarada turned 12, he's already 47 (and sexy) while Sakura is only 37 (still looks young for her age)
Despite living in the modern era, Madara still closely follows the old tradition (wearing long sleeve Uchiha robes, using ancient weapons like his gunbai, and sickle, using his pet birds to communicate, not using technology and stuff) while Sakura mostly follows modernism, though she'd still wear qipao as her work uniform. Their house is a combination of a traditional japanese house with a modern twist
Madara is completely obsessed with his wife, like Gomez from the Addams family which Sakura enjoys
Sarada grows up seeing her parents always showing physical and romantic affections towards each other (she found it gross, but she's used to it - weirded out that other parents weren't this affectionate towards each other when she slept over at cho cho's house once), except in public where her father is more reserved while her mother is still all clingy to him
Sarada is a mama's girl because Madara is a very strict and overprotective father who doesn't allow her to go out and play with her friends until she tells her mama about it, which Madara then couldn't say no anymore because he didn't want to argue with his wife and he just couldn't say no to her puppy eyes
Madara is the cook of the family and Sarada helps him with chopping vegetables
Madara has anxiety issues about losing his two girls, because of what happened to his brothers in the past. So, he regularly visits Sakura in the hospital during her lunch time when he's not busy with his own work as a clan leader and right hand man of the hokage (an excuse he likes to make but in reality he just wanted to see his beautiful wife) and watches over Sarada with his clone during her missions outside the village (without her knowing)
Everyone fears Madara in the village due to his past rivalry with Hashirama, but Sarada just doesn't get why they're afraid of him because at home he's all soft with her mother.
Sarada's friends idolizes her father, especially Boruto, which she found annoying because she's used to seeing and training with her father and just didn't get the hype (but deep down she's proud to be his daughter)
Sarada found her dad annoying because of his strict and grumpy nature but she couldn't deny that she still enjoys training with him
Madara is the jealous type even if he is very confident about Sakura's love for him and knew she will never find a better man than him
When Sakura has missions to visit another village to introduce new techniques of healing and other medical stuff, Madara had always insisted in accompanying her, which always leads to Obito (Madara's adoptive son long before getting married to Sakura) babysitting Sarada.
Sarada does like hanging out with Obito and saw him as her older brother (he's an adult now so he lives on his own), but they do bicker quite a lot
Madara and Sakura's alone time together? Lots of sex and kissing
Even if two decades has already passed, Madara is still wounded by Izuna's death, which he always seek comfort from his wife, which Sakura will gladly give (nonsexual). He never showed this side of him to his daughter, but he always talked proudly about him to Sarada
Sarada didn't know her father has the EMS, as he never wanted to discuss Izuna's death, only the great things he and her uncle had done together. When Sarada would ask, he'd always deflect the question and would even get mad at his daughter when she insisted on asking
Madara still has the tendency to betray Konoha especially knowing that Tobirama might take over village after Hashirama, which angers him. Despite everyone fearing him, his clan wouldn't listen to him when he talks about what could happen if Tobirama takes over, which left him frustrated and alone.
He wanted to discuss this with Sakura, but even if he knows her fully well, he's afraid of what her reaction will be. He also just doesn't know what to do when he has a family that he loves so much. He doesn't want to leave them, but he also cannot take them with him, which left him confused of what he must do
His growing hatred calms down when he's with his wife, making him forget about his worries for his clan for a time being

*insert convenient ask about the character game asking for your Tobirama thoughts*
favorite thing about him
his selflessness! how he'd just jump in front of his father's fist or how he'd create better living situation for the whole class instead of just for his family or how he'd rather sacrifice himself than let someone die for him •᎔• also... grumpy...
least favorite thing about him
hmmmm his sandals?!? at least get some tabi king
favorite line
probably all his "..." "!?" "shut it" speech bubbles. he's here but he'd prefer to be elsewhere
brOTP
minato!!!! they are so cool to each other and are a great duo. i felt like they were pretty synchronised and understood each other well. great war buddies
OTP
i ship him with some random commoner, like a librarian or something. someone completely unrelated to clans, wars and fighting hehe. bby boy deserves some peace, stability and lovin
nOTP
madara, izuna, hashirama because they don't deserve him hah. mito because she's married duh. kagami because he's a bby like what's wrong with u
random headcanon
loves to be comfy and warm. wakes up a little bit too early just to snuggle in his bed for a while. buys expensive fabrics, sheets and clothes. fur on the floor, fur on the bed, fur on his shoulders! everything he wears is so soft and luxurious. also likes fancy tea and chef made ramen or miso. and onsen is his favorite place in konoha! his house is surprisingly cozy and welcoming, and it's always too hot cuz he doesn't know how to get rid of all the fire wood hashi gifts him
unpopular opinion
he's only mean to people who disrespect him and those who proved to be untrustworthy. he's caring and a protector but he doesn't let people fool him or walk over him. it's really used against him and I, personally, think it's very misinterpreted. especially when he reacts with violence when konoha, his home, is threatened. also his creations were great and only damaging when other people corrupted them
song i associate with him
lana's bel air:
Walk in the way of my soft resurrection
Idol of roses, iconic soul, I know your name
Lead me to war with your brilliant direction

I don’t ship either of them but I’ll call them three generations of “needing couple therapy ASAP” because people in Narutoverse would be spared from a WAY LOT messy situations if like just one of those three pairings can just sit down and talk with each other like a proper human being.
Or perhaps “Hokages and their troublesome Uchihas”.
Three generations of homosexuals

All we know from canon is that Hashirama died in battle, but Hashirama was known as the freaking God of Shinobi. Everyone copied his idea of Hidden villages, he's canonically one of the strongest ninja EVER. You can't tell me that the person who managed to kill Hashirama wouldn't be idolized and praised and known as legendary? Iwa definitely would have loved whoever it was. Yet no one knows anything about the circumstances of Hashirama's death and it's never discussed by any Konoha or by foreign villages. So it stands to reason that he didn't fall against an enemy ninja and the true reason for his death was concealed; so no one actually knows how he died except for the people who were with him at the moment of his passing.
I've seen fanon ideas that Mokuton is draining for the user-- it's one of the only jutsu that literally creates life, and I think it makes a lot of sense. My headcanon is that repeated large scale use of Mokuton drastically shortened Hashirama's lifespan, and one day after a particularly bad battle where he used it too much, came back to his tent looked up at Tobirama and was like "So how do you feel about a promotion little brother," and passed on the mantle of Hokage before dying quietly in his tent.
Tobirama hid it-- either because of battle morale, or because he wanted to keep the Mokuton's secrets hidden from enemies, and only informed them later that Hashirama had died in battle after it was over.

Stuff I’ve been thinking about for a really long time now:
I’ve always thought that it would make perfect sense if Mito had been Tenten’s idol: a sealing master who wears buns, a powerful kunoichi… I imagine that Tenten’s fighting style unites Mito’s powerful storing seals and how Hashirama is actively making use of them in battle. (If you looked at Tenten and called her their secret love child, it wouldn’t even seem off design wise. xD)
Anyway, I bring this up because it would also fit in perfectly with my gen swap au! I didn’t just plan on putting Madara and Hashirama into Obito’s era, but the whole founders crew. They start out in their own genin teams, but later they might have students too. And I think it would be so cool if Tenten could eventually end up as Mito’s student. (Maybe she still starts out on Gai’s team, but later switches to further train her specialised skills like Sakura did with Tsunade.) Another great addition for Mito’s team would be Sai. :D The ink, man, the ink… His technique would make a great addition, thematically. Maybe together they could create a jutsu where Sai sends out flying ink animals that attach themself to surfaces and become seals again. He did already possess a sealing jutsu in canon (to bind souls revived by edo tensei). And I think he has great potential in that field. (If we want to “complete” the team, Sakura could be added as well - they share a connection over Tsunade and the strength of a hundred seal.)

Speaking of our reincarnating boys I was wondering. Since Hashirama and Madara get resurrected during the Fourth Shinobi War...would they recognise the reincarnation of their s/o in Naruto's and Sasuke's darlings? Or are they enough of a diffrent people for them to overlook them? Would Madara and Sasuke throw hands over the darling? How the whole situation do you think would play out?
That’s actually a thought that crossed my mind once or twice since we scratched on this topic so thank you for sending this in.
Tw: Yandere themes, delusional thoughts, possessiveness, unhealthy relationship, unhealthy mindset, kidnapping
Meeting again in a different life
🍜🌳In the reincarnation Hc’s I said that these two fall in love instantly the moment they lay their sight onto their darling’s. Hashirama wouldn’t really realize that Naruto’s darling is a reincarnation of his darling. But he would notice that they’re very similar to his darling and that would pull him instantly towards them.
🍜🌳Hashirama would want to spend some time with Naruto’s darling to get to know them better. They just remind him so much of his darling that it almost makes him feel thrilled. Hashirama is rather obvious when it comes to him showing interest in someone, in that point he’s similar to Naruto. And Naruto would feel a bit conflicted about this because the First Hokage is one of his idols, not as much as his father, but still. But on the other hand he also feels like he can feel a bit more at ease because he sees something of himself in Hashirama. As long as the guy doesn’t overdo it I can see Naruto being jealous, but he won’t act against it.
🍜🌳Thing about Hashirama in here is that he is in this situation more reasonable and understanding than Madara is. He knows that his time is limited in here and wouldn’t recognize his darling in Naruto’s. Furthermore he feels a sympathy for Naruto since he reminds him of himself. So I guess in the end he would give Naruto some advices and tell him that he should only show his darling love and adoration.
💙🌑For Madara falling in love doesn’t happen in the snip of a finger. It’s at first more a sparking curiosity, something they feel like they want to find out more about. The resemblance between Sasuke’s and his darling would also play a role in this.
💙🌑Uchiha who are reincarnations of Indra are never willing to share. They have the “if I want something than I’ll take it” kind of mindset and that means the moment Sasuke’s darling caught Madara’s eye that means double trouble for them. Because Sasuke will not tolerate anyone near his darling, especially not someone who’s already dead. Whilst Madara only has a mild interest in you the catastrophe might be still able to be avoided. But the moment Madara gets to know them better and feels more and more like he has his darling standing right in front of him it’s too late. And yes, then these two would throw hands over the darling because sharing isn’t an option.
💙🌑Madara is fully aware that he’s already dead and that Sasuke claimed the darling first. But he never cared too much about such small things. If he wants the darling then he takes the darling, easy as that. And if the darling thought that Sasuke was already terrible than they’ll chance their mind after being taken by the worst Uchiha to have. And Sasuke would be beyond frustrated over this situation, being used to achieving everything with raw power. But with Madara he’s found a match who even surpasses him in terms of cruelty and harshness.

Naruto in Hero Academy
Which Naruto characters would replace the MHA characters more accurately in MHA AU?
Here is what I think:
🔸
Naruto Uzumaki ➡ Mirio Togata
Naruto is a lot of things but nervous and shy isn't one of them. Izuku may be the protagonist of MHA but Naruto is like Izuku only in terms of his desire to protect everything that breathes, oblivious towards the blatant interest of opposite sex and their determination to succeed.
Mirio, on the other hand, is optimistic and shares same sentiment towards helping others. He, like Naruto, is not the brightest student and can be dumb and goofy. He is also a jokester of sorts and makes fool of himself like Naruto. Both of them are very hardworking and train themselves to master hardest techniques.
Naruto's quirk: Pressure control
Sakura Haruno ➡ Kyoka Jirou, Ochako Uraraka
Jirou is cool, smart, level-headed and quite aggressive. Sakura is book smart, is dry when she wants to be, isn't afraid to put people in their places when they show disobedience or act silly, and has leadership qualities. Both are self-conscious of their looks and bodies and have aversion to horror settings.
Ochako and Sakura are both strong willed, both work hard to be useful to their friends and don't want to left behind. Both are competitive, friendly and kind. Both become shy in front of their love interest. Ochako wants to become a good hero to support her parents and help people, Sakura worked to truly become a shinobi to stand beside her teammates. Ochako cares deeply for Deku, regardless of her feelings for him, like Sakura towards Naruto.
Sakura's quirk: Super strength
Sasuke Uchiha ➡ Shouto Todoroki, Katsuki Bakugou
Both Shouto and Sasuke are cool, quiet, impassive and blunt. They are top students of their class and are popular for their pretty-boy looks and their powers. They both are from influential families and have a strained relationship with their father and older brother who is a villain. They both are intelligent and top of their classes.
Katsuki and Sasuke are arrogant, tend to look down on others and desire to be on the top. They tend to snap at their rivals and often lose their cool in their presence. Both secretly cherish and care for their friends, but are really bad ar outwardly expressing them. They are antisocial and prefer to train over socialising.
Sasuke's quirk: Electricity
Shikamaru Nara ➡ Shinsou Hitoshi
Both are straightforward and clever enough to be one step ahead of the rest. Both are antisocial yet have many friends who are absolute sunshiand are manipulative when they want to be. Both have their mentor's quirks passed onto them – smoking and love for cats.
Shikamaru's quirk: Shadow control
Rock Lee ➡ Eijirou Kirishima
Both are overly enthusiastic about manly things and youth, have optimistic personalities and are insensitive to what people says about them. They care and believe in their friend – Neji/Bakugo – no matter how they shun him away.
Lee's quirk: Speed
Hinata Hyuga ➡ Tamaki Amajiki, Eri
Both are extremely shy in social settings, show outward signs of social anxiety when it gets best of them, doesn't believe in their strengths and look up to Naruto/Mirio.
Eri and Hinata, both are timid and naive. Like Eri, Hinata is accepting of her father's opinion of her and doesn't stand up for herself. While not psychologically traumatised like Eri, Hinata has her social.
Hinata's quirk: X-Ray vision
Shino Aburame ➡ Fumikage Tokoyami
Both are odd ones in their groups, blunt to a fault and have distinctive way of speaking. They are both underestimated and are powerful in their own rights. Tokoyami has his bird and Shino has his bugs to assist him.
Shino's quirk: Insect control
Neji Hyuga ➡ Seiji Shishikura
Both are proud, dignified individuals and are strong believers of their opinions about who can/cannot become heroes/shinobis. Both are arrogant about their abilities and tend to be very cruel to others at times, but that's where their similarities end.
Neji's quirk: Deflection shield
Konan ➡ Asui Tsuyu
Both are not afraid to speak their minds and are very stoic individuals who rarely show emotions. While both are blunt and to the point, they also are compassionate and care for their friends deeply. They are also very supportive and reliable individuals which makes them great partners.
Konan's quirk: Telekinesis
Nagato Uzumaki ➡ Tomura Shigaraki
They both have been manipulated by Sensei/Madara. They both wanted to ruin Shinobi villages/Heros of the world for what they were manipulated into believing a greater cause. They both hide their true identity from the rest of their allies, behind hands and reanimated body. Both, as a child, were kind, compassionate and desired to help others.
Nagato's quirk: Resurrection
Itachi Uchiha ➡ Dabi/Touya Todoroki
Personality-wise, both are similar in some ways – aloof, confident, smart, stoic and cautious. Both often taunt their brothers by pulling on their abilities and weaknesses, however, their intentions couldn't be more different. If Itachi had been a true villain with no martyr tendencies, only rightly placed anger, then he could be considered as true Dabi of Naruto universe.
Itachi's quirk: Hallucinations
Kakashi Hatake ➡ Eraserhead/Shota Aizawa
Both find their wards troublesome and causes trouble to them as much as they could, but they both secretly love them to death. Both have protective steaks in them and always turn 180 on their enemies who dare to pose threat to their kids. Both have distinctive – Aizawa usuallu has his sleeping bag with him and Kakashi always have his porn with him.
Kakashi's quirk: Copy
Hashirama Senju➡ All Might/Yagi Toshinori
Both are revered as idols and are considered the strongest heroes. Hashirama established the idea of 'will of fire' and All Might is considered the 'symbol of peace', which is an idea of goodwill. Both are jubilant individuals, brimming with positivity and strength. They are always shown smiling and have inspiring personalities that are well-liked by others. Hashirama, like Yagi, have serious streak in him which is in contrast to his normal, cheerful attitude.
Hashirama's quirk: Earth control
Anko Mitarashi ➡ Midnight/Nemuri Kayama
Both have similar appearances – purple hair, spiky hair and curvaceous figure – and dress provocatively. They both are quite sadistic and enjoy unsettling others like its their personal hobby. Both are impulsive, stubborn, playful, but also intelligent and resourceful individuals.
Anko's quirk: Elasticity
Madara Uchiha ➡ All for one/Sensei
Need I say? The boss villains whose powers rival the likes of Hashirama and All Might. Madara is better person than Sensei of course, but both are terrifying, manipulative, have animosity against Hashirama/All Might and can be considered the Symbol of Evil. Both are power-hungry, ruthless and manipulative. Despite their merciless nature, they also seem to love their younger brother.
Madara's quirk: Gravity control
Tsunade Senju ➡ Healing girl/Chiyo Shuzenji
Both are old women. Like Chiyo, Tsunade is kind and compassionate, but also harsh and chiding towards crazy and reckless people. They are both expert doctors.
Tsunade's quirk: Healing
.
I had so much fun comparing the characters of my two favourite fandoms for this post. As far as abilities goes, I am happy with this list. I think Fire Control is the most overused ability ever. Gravity manipulation is my favourite ability; if you can increase and decrease the gravity then you are nearly the strongest person. Madara is that. It's insane how strong he is in Naruto, I didn't give him all that credit here.
Thank you for reading!

naruto oc masterpost
i went on an artbreeder binge tonight and made a shit ton of my ocs so i figured now was as good as ever to make a proper masterpost. so without further ado, buckle the fuck up and here we go.
(stuck this under a read more because it got kind of long whoops)
the hatake family
rei natsuki and kakashi hatake were childhood best friends and neighbors. they drifted over the years after kakashi began losing everything and everyone he cared about. he refused to support rei’s dreams of becoming a ninja because he couldn’t stand to watch her put herself in harm’s way–he couldn’t stand the thought of losing her. they are eventually reunited when rei is appointed to the anbu black ops. they quickly reconcile and start a romantic relationship together. eventually, they marry and have two children: nariko, who was born on a battlefield, and rokurou, who they are blessed with after kakashi takes office as sixth hokage.
two years after rokurou’s birth, rei and kakashi take in an orphaned girl who they name sutego. not long after, rei falls pregnant again with twins katsuro and keiko. a high-risk pregnancy, a long labor puts rei in distress and keiko, small and weak, is delivered after her brother by emergency c-section. it is after this experience that kakashi decides to retire as hokage to devote himself fully to his family. he and rei have one more child, a son, named kazuhiko.
dorimuchimu: the dream team rei’s childhood team. she was trained alongside her best friends naru fuzuki and sekkachi fumeiyo. naru was of a prominent family in konoha heavily involved with local politics and as such was rather well-off, financially. naru ends up following rei into the anbu black ops. sekkachi can only use taijutsu and therefore spent a lot of time with might guy, with whom she spars with every wednesday afternoon to this day. she is chronically ill and therefore has faced many setbacks in her shinobi journey, thus making her rather cynical and harsh. they four of them were led by their sensei, chikara, a former dancer.
tenshi taketori was one of the new recruits trained in the anbu alongside rei. she is cunning, seductive, and determined. mikazuki zazen was also one of the anbu trained alongside rei, known for her rare and powerful dojutsu–the shinkantazagan, which grants users a powerful sense of awareness. sefure kawakubo was a former flame of kakashi’s while he was in the anbu, met with mainly for stress relief purposes. her younger sister, arai kawakubo, is a coarse new anbu recruit assigned to the team that rei captains.
nozomu is a cynical artist who rei meets in an inpatient program in the konoha hospital. she is dark and brooding, placed in treatment after a suicide attempt, but her beautiful art gives others hope. suisen unohana is another patient, seeking treatment for an eating disorder. the inpatient program is led by sosei chouwa who preaches recovery based on holistic treatment methods. she has a twin sister, seiiku chouwa, who is the head of the maternity ward and a licensed midwife.
seiiku’s star pupil is a young immigrant, tanjo, who decided to become a midwife after the unexpected birth of her son, kyugeki, who she was unaware she was pregnant with. tanjo is responsible for delivering rei and kakashi’s second child in a home birth during a blizzard.
sefure and arai’s grandmother, edna kawakubo, owns a local high-end kimono shop that naru frequents. she is a former anbu and the head of the uniform sewing division in the konoha grandmother’s coalition, a group of elderly former shinobi who give back to the community by sewing new ninja uniforms among other things.
komori unohana, suisen’s grandmother, owns a local antiques shop alongside her twin brother, rojin unohana. komori was also a former anbu, childhood comrade of edna, and member of the konoha grandmother’s coalition. she is obsessed with collecting souvenirs and knick-knacks from various villages. rojin has a specialty in old mechanical pieces. he took chikara in when she first emigrated to konoha and she therefore repays his kindness by bringing him appliances of hers to fix.
arai’s daughter, ichika kawakubo, is nariko’s main rival. conceited and self-centered, she often cares more about a broken nail than training to become a strong shinobi. suisen’s daughter, kanami unohana, becomes best friends with rokurou hatake. she is blind, and never knew her father, but when suisen and kiba begin dating, he becomes as close to a father as she gets. he also provides her with her own ninken to act as a guide dog.
the kankitsurui girls rei’s grandmother, teiko natsuki, was originally of the kankitsurui clan—a small clan of citrus farmers on the outskirts of what would become konoha. teiko and her family were recruited to move to the newly established konoha by hashirama senju himself thanks to teiko’s extraordinary chakra tethering ability. as a child, she trained under mito uzumaki alongside edna kawakubo and komori unohana. she was extremely close with her younger sister, fuun kankitsurui, whose exile as a teenager after falling unexpectedly pregnant tore an irreparable rift between teiko and her strict parents. in an act of rebellion, teiko joined the anbu black ops. she went on to marry oku natsuki, the owner of a local bookshop, and have one son. as an elderly woman, she founded the konoha grandmother’s coalition and has an extremely close bond with her granddaughter.
the parents rei’s parents, hana and yuruganai natsuki, run the local bookstore, kaminoki shop. originally a yamanaka, hana turned down the civilian pathway thanks to suffering chronic migraines from using the mind transfer technique. she met her husband during her brief time in the academy. yuruganai was on the same genin team as sakumo and aijo hatake but quickly gave up on becoming a ninja after a serious arm injury during the chunin exams. sakumo and aijo, in contrast, becmae a legendary duo known for their ninja hounds, the companionship of which was rooted in aijo having grown up in the inuzuka clan. the two couples lived next door and raised their children, rei and kakashi, alongside one another until aijo and then sakumo both passed away.
amai is a waitress at the local dango shop who has a passion for sweets. she is often met by sekkachi and hiretsuna akado, the ditsy hospital receptionist who sekkachi treats to taiyaki as thanks for always keeping her company during her many doctor’s appointments. sukui yukio is another new recruit from rei’s anbu team, a charming and princely young man who never lets anyone forget about his resemblance to actor keihaku goman from the “icha icha” film adaptation. another comrade from rei’s anbu team is hitsuji akado, hiretsuna’s twin brother. he is a prodigy in math and science and has social anxiety and a dog allergy. he got the brains whereas his sister got the beauty. their father is an accountant and their mother is a friend of hana’s.
sekkachi’s cousin, tenjikubotan fumeiyo, is as glamorous and charming as sekkachi is blunt and sarcastic. where sekkachi works against her chronic illness–a family curse bestowed upon her grandmother when she fled to konoha for refuge–to achieve her dreams of being an elite ninja, tenjikubotan takes advantage of her sickness to be waited on hand and foot and treated like a princess. she has a tiger summons named byakko who acts as her companion. tenjikubotan’s bright and bubbly younger sister is roru fumeiyo, a chunin of konohagakure with her own tiger companion. she idolizes sekkachi and ends up in a relationship with rock lee. tenjikubotan goes on to marry sukui and together they have a daughter, oniyuri.
brother and sister duo ketsui and hoseki kenshin make the best ninja tools in the entire village. ketsui forges not only kunai and swords but also jewelry. kakashi trusted no one else to create the engagement ring he gave to rei. ketsui’s younger sister hoseki is his apprentice and teammates with suisen unohana and roru fumeiyo. when she is not forging her own weapons and jewlery, she is responsible for sourcing all of their material. one of her favorite things is going down into the mines and finding rare gems. she is especaily fascinated with guren’s crystal release.
ketsui and hoseki’s cousin, kagami kenshin, is another character that rei meets during her time in inpatient. kagami is in treatment to help manage his bipolar disorder. he, rei, suisen, and nozumu end up becoming fairly close with one another after attending group therapy sessions every day.
yuzu is a quirky preteen girl who hana and yuruganai hire to lend a helping hand at kaminoki. she devours books like nobody’s business and has a particular interest in sociopolitical matters.

Yo whores, bros, and other nonbinary folks, Naruto? Yeah that shit is shit. Sorry >.<
Big shocker when I say this, but the systems in Naruto make little to no sense. From the hospital system to the education system, all of it SUCKS.
And one of the biggest offender is ANBU - yea those bitches.
ANBU are suppose to be the eliet, the best of the best, the type of soldiers that follow all orders and can kill with their pinkies.
Woah. Weird. Because what we get are little pussies.
In order to keep my sanity, I've convinced myself that it's done on purpose - because pointing out bad writing is more boring then desperately trying to excuse bad writing in the form of head canons and theories.
You cannot tell me otherwise that the ANBU was created by a drunk Hashirama and everyone just went, "you got it, boss man."
The system is so deeply flawed that it's getting soldiers killed - good soldiers. And when you run out of quality, you replace it with quantity.
The ANBU is built to accept the highest portion of people who are willing to sell their souls to their government. The way to do this is easy, you make the test easy - that's right, it's all a lie hoes.
Now, how do I know that Hashirama drunkly came up with this system? Well...i dont because SOMEONE doesn't give us good historical backstories - but I theorize this is how it went down.
BECAUSE NONE OF IT MAKES ANY SENSE.
First of all, why the masks?
"B-but Weeb-san, the masks are to identify and give a persona to ANBU soldiers"
Incorrect, ignorant fake person who I made up for this argument.
You see, you don't want your unidentifiable ops to be...identify. We know that ANBU ops keep the same mask all throughout their career, so what's stopping a gossiping citizen from recognizing the same ANBU? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
I bet my whole ass that there would be an underground Bingo book about ANBU ops, because oh, look at that: All it takes is a single person to record an ANBU's mask and abilities to completely nullify the whole point of ANBU.
The people who need to be identifying the ANBU are the same people who allowed to know the identities of ANBU - making the whole mask system fucking pointless.
Now, look, I'll admit that the whole 'adopting a persona to make you feel less shitty about murdering an entire family' is a valid argument - IF their personas wasn't so obvious.
So here's what you should do to fix it:
Keep the mask idea, but have them all be the same.
Keep the personable names, but allow them to be assigned by an overseeing captain or be personally choose - it's important to have these names to be personal and not just numbers; an easy way to forget who you are and going insane is by being completely stripped of who you are.
Oh. By the way, it's super easy to identify people outside of ANBU masks.
An example: when Kakashi was in ANBU, his hair and voice was unchanged.
How the fuck did no one go: "huh, it might be easy to identify this literal child genius based off his squeaky voice and weird ass hair. We should probably hide it with THE LITERAL HUNDREDS OF JUTSU THAT WERE CREATED EXACTLY FOR THIS REASON."
Oh, and right, let's not forget the tattoos.
No, you didn't hear me incorrect: the organization that no one is suppose to be aware that you're apart of gives you a tattoo. A tattoo. Right.
Can you guess where they're suppose to go? That's right bitch, on the shoulder. Right. Sure. Okay.
What, are ANBU suppose to fuck with their shirt on for the rest of their life? Oh sorry, I forgot the ANBU actively discourages having a life outside of being mindless shoulder because that's defiantly not a recipe for disaster - my bad.
"Oh but Weeb-san this is so they can assure that no one can copy and pretend to be an ANBU."
Yes, yes, I'm aware that the ANBU typical unform shows the shoulders. That's great. Sadly, there is a magical system in place which literally have zero limitations - looking at you space rabbit. Trust me, a tattoo is not the solution here.
So how do we fix this:
Add seals to the back of the mask to make it A.) Impossible to remove without the correct hand seals (which should change weekly btw) B.) Makes all voices monotone and androgynous.
Use the magic system. Please for fucks sake, use it. Everyone should have the same appearance; looking badass isn't an excuse for being a dumbass.
The tattoo system is in place to avoid the ANBU from being infiltrated. Allow me to quickly say: infiltrating ANBU will have to be done by someone who has inside information - the ANBU literally have their own sign language. Plus, I'm sure the members are close enough to realize when someone isn't suppose to be there. Overall, the tattoo system is fucking pointless. Just get rid of it.
Some headcanons~
Therapy. Seriously. There should be a mandatory check up every three months. You're telling me we have a whole clan who specialize in mental health and we aren't going to use them? Fucking dumbass.
ANBU headquarters should hold everything a person would need: sleeping quarters, cafeteria, medic area, and rec area. For most ANBU this is a life style; it makes no sense to force PTSD riddle, lonely soldiers into normal population unless they actively choose it.
I do believe this is cannon-ish, but teams should created for a single specialization.
There should be captain and co-captain; this is just to assure that a dumbass decision isn't made. Or teams should have a voting system.
Retirement should be encourage. Shocker, but having a useless teammate is very dangerous. If someone is incapable of continuing in ANBU they should be discharged and put into a different branch where they can be even more useful.
ANBU should be a very respectful position and shouldn't be taboo to talk about or anti-famous. This is less about the organization and more about how the public perceives them - I just find it very weird that being ANBU isn't idolized by children or lower ranked shinobi.
I defiantly forgot a few points, but honestly who gives two shits? I'll just edit it later lmao.
See you later, sexy mamas~
Xoxo

jsdkjlsfjkls my first official post (that’s not a reblog) and it’s a tag! i’ve never been tagged with anything, and while the thread won’t continue on my end ‘cuz...i don’t know that many people, i’m always up for some song sharing <3 thanks for thinking of me @mira--mira
1. favorite song at the moment
Mmmm... Your Power by Billie Eilish, i've been listening to it non stop since it came out, it just has the chill vibes i desperately need rn
2. a song you associate with your favorite ship
Look, i have a favourite ship for every fandom i'm on and they are way too many, so i'm gonna choose just the two i'm currently obsessed with atm.
First let's go with hashimada: Love in the Dark by Adele. Just, listen to this song and tell me it's not literally Madara @ Hashirama when he’s leaving the village, i dare u, i double dare u!
And, now for wangxian...mmm, Dark Paradise by Lana del Rey. LZ mourning his WY for 13 years? now that i think about it both songs are really sad fjkfhkajsdhfakljsd it says a lot about the ships i like xD
3. a song that could be about you
I dunno, the wii theme? okno, i’m joking. Procrastination by Amy Winehouse
4. a song you think is overrated
Colgando en tus manos by Carlos Baute, i don’t know about the rest of the world, when i was in high school i heard this song one day and i thought it was okay, it’s a good song, but meh... and then i started hearing it EVERYWHERE. It got to the point where i wanted to rip my ears off my head, jesus
5. a song that reminds you of a good memory
Velvet by A-HA, my dad used to play this song on the stereo before bed and would invent a bedtime story based on it, always a different one... it’s one of those songs that bring me back to my childhood (i need to clarify that neither of us knew a single word in english back then, so we only enjoyed the melody)
6. last song you listened to
According to my youtube history, this weird thing is the last song i heard, it’s strangely mesmerizing after you hear it a few times.
7. a song that makes you laugh
Fuck you by Lilly Allen. I’m childish af, i know
8. a song that you want your mutuals to listen to
All I Know so Far by P!nk. I know i said the Billie Eilish song is my favourite at the moment, but i think this one is gonna be my favourite of all time, it came out just this year, but P!nk is one of my all time idols and i feel she doesn’t get enough attention uwu

can i req founding trio and minato, modern hc! so their gf was in idol group, being rapper and visual(the prettiest member). sorry my prev req was accidently send before im done typing 😭
Ooo cute it’s ok!! And thank you!
Hashirama probably knew you from the idol group but never fit the pieces together until he sees a poster of the idol group and just sees you on the front. He immediately takes the poster down he stole it and showed it to you.
“Are you in this??” He asked excitedly. You nodded and replied, “A couple years back, I was the rapper.” Hashirama would immediately ask you to sing/rap something for him, because he wants to support you, past hobby or not.
Tobirama isn’t really in tune with media around him, he has a job that makes a lot and doesn’t have time to look at music artists. Until he notices that this week you’ve been coming home a little later or going off somewhere for lunch. He was a little suspicious, because after years of being compared to his brother he’ll always feel insecure.
He confronts you about it without trying to scare you away. “Where have you been going this week?” Tobirama asked. You waved him off and said, “My old pop group! They’re in town for the week.” Tobirama.exe has shut down. You were in a what????? You explained that your band was very popular before wanting to back to your personal lives, but after you explained everything.
I think you got a new fan.
Madara listens to whatever songs you or Izuna play. One day, Izuna left his disc in the car and it started playing, he had screeched to a halt on his way to work. He heard your voice, not singing but rapping. Madara immediately took out the music disc to look at it, and low and behold...your face was on it. He listened to the rest of it and while he did paperwork.
When he got home, you were waiting for him and also finishing up some cookies you decided to make. You welcomed him home and he immediately pulled the disc out of his pocket and said, “You have a great voice.”
Let’s just say, you will never live down the fact that you rapped in and band once and also never mentioned it.
Minato knows who you are let’s be honest. He knew you were in a band once because he was a major fan OF that band! He would always be asking you to sing for him or rap something because he just loves hearing your voice.
“Oh yeah, did I ever tell you I was in a band?” You asked one day, he turned from cooking and replied, “I know, I was fan of the band.” To which you snorted and stated, “You went through that sort of phase too hm?” He rolled his eyes with a smile, “You were my favorite member!” “And not the member that was going through the same phase?”

Question for mun! What do you think of Minato imitating Hashirama and how he rescued Kushina only because she was Uzumaki?
Oh boy, why’d you have to ask? [I’m kidding, I love development questions. They give my neurons a reason to not implode]. Before I address your question though, please note that I have a different interpretation of Minato. Naturally, said interpretation pertains to how I write the character and is not up for wide-scale public acceptance. To each their own, ne?
Disclaimer: Canon = manga. I rarely consider the anime on its own, though I may refer to sourced articles from reddit/quora/narutopedia/databooks. I’m very picky about my sources, since unfounded bouts of OP makes my tea taste bitter and I like my chamomile nice and refreshing, despite the claims of a certain copy nin likening it to steeped weeds. >> You know who you are.
Lets start with the times: Konoha was an established hidden village with a fair number of geniuses to its leaf adorned headband; Hiruzen’s generation, the White Fang, Konoha’s Ghost, Legendary Sanin - and the list goes on. These shinobi were role models; icons for the younger generation to follow - and to become Hokage; the best of the best, was on everyone’s bucket list. As a refugee, Uzumaki Kushina said she wanted to be Hokage to prove a point and Minato chose that time to say it too because it was akin to acknowledging her as one of Konoha.
Just because no one else said it, doesn’t mean they didn’t aim for it either. Who hadn’t learned about the legendary Shodai and the formation of the village? Who didn’t know about the honoured Uzumaki Mito who was somehow still alive whereas everyone else from her time had died? These figures, legends were heroes and idols for a lifestyle where the main trade was murder and espionage. Undoubtedly, their names and lores were used to instil a certain patriotism within the budding leaves of the village; to ensure that the new generations learned to set aside their differences and work together in the service of the Daimyo.
I digress. It wasn’t just Minato who wanted to be like the Shodai or the Nindaime, or the Legendary Professor [Sandaime], everyone did. He simply happened to have the means to make it happen: Beat the Sandaime’s record at the academy [undisputed so far], stumbled across the Nindaime’s technique and adapted it to be faster [thus hijacking the title of the fastest shinobi] and fostered a reputation on the battlefield which, true to Konoha’s brand of genius, made enemy nin soil themselves.
To say he didn’t plan on said reputation would be somewhat incorrect. Minato was a reputed [ha] genius, ne? Not on the same level as Itachi but pretty…lethal, to put it lightly. The system fostered his persona, and he outstripped it by becoming the youngest Hokage in history. That’s a worthy legend in itself, but is it legend enough to overshadow all previous Hokage?
Which brings me back to your question: Did he rescue Kushina just because she was an Uzumaki? Also interpreted as: Did he plan on marrying Uzumaki Kushina from the get-go?
Maybe. There isn’t enough evidence in canon to completely refute it; but there isn’t nearly enough to support it either. I tend to lean towards the latter since such planning would involve him honing in on Kushina as a ‘target’ since learning her clan affiliation. He was what, nine years old? Maybe ten when they met? I don’t know about you, dear anon, but I prefer a dash of realism when it comes to character studies. At that time, Minato, being the clan-less thingus that he was, was probably more invested in proving himself to his beloved Jiraiya sensei [role model x] and the Sandaime and everyone else who saw him as a genius born once every decade.
Random fun fact: Minato “stalking” Kushina is a filler in the anime. It never happened in the manga. See why sources are so important?
But then how is it possible for the parallel to be so apparent? I’ll give you two reasons; the first is a boring one called literary trope. The second one is kinda…conspiratorial. You see, when a system is as prone to birthing geniuses as Konoha’s most certainly is, the fact that there is a potential genius candidate and a Jinchuriki in the same age group becomes an opportunity. The Jinchuriki is always close to the Hokage, and the Hokage is always one who is recognised by the people.
Additional side-note: Jinchuriki goes missing; everyone panics and no one bothers to notice the cherry red strands of hair left behind by one intelligent kunoichi. No Jonin/Chunin thinks to look underneath the freaking underneath and pick up on it? Come on; this is a generation that grew up around wars. They’re not idiots. [insert nudge no jutsu here]
Case and point. Minato was well aware of his reputation [he bloodied his hands and soul for it after all], and had probably realised the nuances of the system at some point, and had grown to be sceptical of it. Consequently, he had an ego massive enough to think that he could change it for the better. [Remember when he and Naruto talk about the cycle of hatred? He indicated that he was aware of the problem, but didn’t know how to fix it because his generation had failed on that note]
Hokage? Hokage. He was well aware of how his persona might appear to the general populace. His sunny disposition and charm was probably more likened with the Shodai than anyone else. If you don’t think he took advantage of it, then you don’t know just how sneaky Konoha’s Kiiroi Senkō can be. He didn’t hail from a special clan, neither did he possess any kekkei genkai so his reputation was honestly all he had.
But to strive especially hard to mirror Hashirama and Mito? Nah. Minato was a strategist; he would use his public image to ensure Konoha’s loyalty and his popularity - and also his fearsome reputation which crossed borders thanks to all those useful rumours. Kushina had an image of her own to maintain [she was a fearsome kunoichi in her own right] - the manga doesn’t expand on their time enough to disprove or approve, so I suppose it boils down to one’s interpretation, ne? I like to think that Kushina isn’t blind enough to be manipulated by the flake she has to teach the basics of fuuin to. You can’t expect a relationship between such bull headed characters to blossom without experiences and nuances tinged with enough blood, sweat and tears - they rely on each other, anon. Kushina is one of the few people that keeps Minato sane, and Minato is probably one of the very few people who gave Kushina a sense of purpose other than that of a mere vessel.
Hashirama and Mito weren’t a fairy tale romance - theirs was initially political which turned lofty, depending on who you ask. Minato’s and Kushina’s wasn’t a sparkly re-edit either, unless said re-edits are tinged with war and the knowledge that you might not return from your next high ranking mission.
Note on Minato as the Yondaime:
If there was any Hokage he would take administrative cues from, it would be the Nindaime’s lore/records because of all the decrees Tobirama introduced to streamline the system. Minato is a strategist, and had the luxury of one Nara Shikaku, a genius of a Jonin commander, who had been at the game longer than himself. He would introduce similar reforms. Any political nuance would be treated like an occurrence on the battlefield because that’s how Minato had programmed himself to work.
He has his goofy moments too - but only with people he knows and can trust. Their generation was kinda...mucked up, as were the generations before theirs. If you think about it, Naruto’s generation is the..second gen that grew up soft and squishable in comparison.

[ Naruto OC x Canon Ship Week 2020 - In Love and War ] [ @naruto-ocxcanon-ship-week || @uchiha-madara ] [ Suigin Ryū, Uchiha Madara, Uchiha Izuna, Terumi Mei, Senju Tobirama ] [ Verse: To Rule Them All ] [ Trope: Arranged Marriage ]
Standing along the edge of her chamber balcony, a lone woman rests marless hands along its railing. From the lofty perch, she gazes down into the valley that twists and winds between snow-capped peaks. Moonlight paints the scene in soft greys and shadows.
She should be sleeping...but she can’t begin to find rest.
A soft sigh plumes in the chilled night air. Like the fog that often blankets her homeland, it drifts slowly, unhurriedly out from the cliffside castle. Carved from the very mountain face, it watches over the vale unblinkingly, waterfalls cascading out past its windows to join the river below.
The rumbling of the water is usually enough to lull her to sleep. But tonight, too much weighs on her mind.
Far, far too much.
Her eyes don’t see what lies before them, flickering in thought in their sockets. The eddying news and arising conflicts won’t stop flowing, keeping her conscious.
What should she do…?
It’s now more than ever she wishes for her mother’s guidance. Someone older, wiser, to help steer her in the right direction.
But she’s alone...and with war on the horizon, her kingdom surrounded on all sides.
Since the first recordings of history, they’ve remained detached from the other nations and their squabbles. With their world’s holy sites all contained within her borders, that influence of faith has allowed them to stand alone, untouched, for centuries. A careful balance maintained between the other lands to avoid overstepping and claiming too much influence over a place that - in truth - belongs to them all.
But now…? War once again threatens to rise. And the balance is crumbling. Rather than seeking to protect her lands, the others now seek to conquer it.
And without an army, a neutral place of peace...Ryū fears they will fall like wheat to a scythe. Unless the gods themselves intervene...they have no defense beyond the walls of the mountains. The chosen people of the valley do not fight. They’ve never had to.
To spill blood on the sacred land was to invite the wrath of the gods.
But that fear seems to be waning in the other nations. And their lack of restraint may be the end of the valley people chosen by the pantheon.
And she fears there is nothing she can do but pray.
Fingers curl against the railing, nails trying to dig into the stone and threatening to snap. Her people look to her for guidance: both a priestess and a queen. But now…? She feels utterly unprepared to lead them. Protect them. Without the perilous balance outside their borders...how can she keep war at bay?
Her head bows, heavy with every life depending on her. There has to be something she can do...something to stave off their slaughter.
...wait…
Like a beetle boring into wood, a thought worms its way into her mind. One that goes against centuries of tradition. At first, she flinches from it by reflex. And yet it lingers, tempting and luring.
...what if she were to tame one of the warhounds? Offer it what it wants...and in return, turn its teeth against the others? Marry a warlord...and position his army at their gates?
Never has her line tied itself to another. Never have they broken the careful neutrality maintained to ensure equality for the others in the eyes of the gods. If she does this...if she shows a bias to one land over the others...will it be enough to save them?
Or will it bring only ruin?
...what choice does she have?
To give another influence over her lands...is that the price she’s willing to pay to protect it? Are shackles preferable to gravestones?
In silence she weighs her odds...before turning to retreat inside.
She has letters to pen.
"My king!”
Gloved palms braced against the table that bears his maps, Madara turns at the voice of a messenger. “This best be important.”
“A message, my liege.”
“...from?”
“The priestess of the mountain valley.”
Immediately, dark brows furrow. What could she want with him? An expectant hand raises to accept the parchment, unfurling it and proceeding to read.
The further he goes, the more his face slackens.
Around him, everyone stills, awaiting his reaction.
“...prepare my horse.”
“Sire…?”
“I have a meeting to attend. Izuna!”
Stepping up beside his brother, the younger man replies, “Shall I hold the fort?”
“Yes. Await my orders. Until then...consider us at ease. But be ready at a moment’s notice.”
“Of course.” He eyes his brother thoughtfully. “...that must have been some letter.”
As he straps on his armor, a mischievous smirk curls Madara’s lips. “I may have just been handed victory on a silver platter.”
Izuna’s brows lift. “...that simply?”
“Oh, there will be obstacles. But none I cannot handle. Especially if it means avoiding this war altogether.”
“You? Eager to avoid bloodshed?”
“...as much as I enjoy the fire in my veins at a proper battle...I’m not so easily consumed as not to realize it costs the lives of my men. Besides...victory is what tastes sweetest. And one I can take single handedly will be ambrosia itself.”
“...then I wish you luck.”
“Luck will have nothing to do with it, brother. It’s all a matter of will.”
Watching Madara leave the chamber, Izuna folds his arms with a sigh. Curiosity burns at the letter’s contents, but he knows he’ll be made aware in due time. A meeting, and skipping a war…?
...that alone gives him some idea.
“...spread the word that our armies are to remain on alert. Until the king returns or sends word, we remain here at the ready.”
“Aye!”
Astride his Friesian, Madara wastes no time, digging heels to the beast’s sides and heading inland. Nor does he bother himself with escorts. They’ll only slow him down, and he wants to be prompt. The sooner he arrives, the sooner he’ll settle this matter himself.
So, the queen’s decided to take things into her own hands, has she? Allay war by holding a council that will serve in its stead. Let the kings, queens, and generals do the fighting themselves for once rather than hide behind their armies. Let one emerge a victor, claim the spoils...and put to rest this silly balancing act.
And Madara knows, in a contest of will and limits, none will stand in his way. The only thorn he can foresee is that bastard Tobirama now that Hashirama is gone. But he’ll handle that too when he must.
To lay claim to the holy lands of their continent will be to grip every heart that follows the gods. In his goals to make all equal and loyal to one ideal...such a position is paramount. No more wars. No more squabbling. He’ll make sure the lines drawn between men will finally fade into one unity.
No matter how far he must go.
Like any gods-fearing man, he’s made the pilgrimage himself more than once. The way is already familiar. But there’s still a moment taken upon cresting the lip of the valley to appreciate its majesty.
...it really is a beautiful place. No wonder the gods call it their cradle. In all his travels, he’s never seen a place more fitting for them to consider setting foot upon the soil. The thought of bringing war here is indeed distasteful.
No wonder she’s willing to bow her head to protect it.
Easily marked an outsider, he ignores the stares as he makes his way up to the castle. He understands and respects their suspicions. Besides, it won’t be long before he can put to rest their fears and earn their admiration. If he’s to be the first king of this reclusive land, he’ll do it the right way.
Presenting his letter, he allows his mount to be stabled as he’s led inside. The palace carved from the white stone of the cliff face has always impressed him, looking birthed from the mountain itself. With the forested lip crowning it and the waterfalls that curtain its face, it looks much like a fairy queen’s domain.
Speaking of which...he’s never individually spoken to the priestess queen of the valley. She who both rules and shepherds. Her sermons have always been impassioned, and he won’t deny her ethereal beauty: the ghostly-white countenance that’s said to be a mark of the gods’ blessings to her lineage. But until now, he’s had no reason to approach her directly. Almost like an idol herself, kept behind a wall no outsider could pass.
...but that’s all set to change.
To his annoyance, several of the other monarchs have already arrived. Though it can’t be helped, given proximities. The land of his people lies mostly along a coast compared to the valley at the heart of their landmass, pushed to the edges over time. They all give him the same sour, upturned-nose glances, clearly displeased at the presence of the warlord.
His reputation is no secret: willing to carve through anything to get what he wants. Spilling blood like others pour wine. Claimed to be a monster masquerading as human, more likely to kill a man than embrace him.
While his bloodlust is indeed true, born from a line used to fending for itself...he still remembers the talks of old with another princeling. Another soul that, in truth, wished for peace. While their methods were always different...Madara did - and still does - desire a stop to be brought to wars.
He’s just more willing to be...absolute.
But this might be just the break he’s looking for. A new angle to bring all men into line. Surely between the lady of faith and the lord of power, there will be little standing in their way of finally putting the marches of wars to rest.
...but first, he’ll have to take care of the competition.
“And here I thought this was to be a peace council. Yet here prowls the dog of war.”
Dark eyes sliding to their corners, Madara aloofly considers one of the other land’s queens: a woman of flaming hair and even more flaming temper. “Dog or not, I was beckoned just as you were. Any other judgments, I’m sure, will be made by our hostess. Until then, I’ve little need or want of yours.”
Arms tucked into voluminous sleeves, Mei considers him with equal parts disdain and intrigue. “And are the rest of us supposed to accept your presence without hesitation, pretending you’ve not wounded us in the past?”
“Any I’ve wounded have done so to me in turn. Perhaps not as successfully,” he adds with a smirk, earning a glower, “but don’t paint yourselves as guiltless martyrs. Any who spill blood are equally guilty. Lost life is lost life, no matter what banner or slogan you hide behind. I protect my people as you do yours.”
“And yet none will deny your barbarity. Not even you.”
“I’ll not bother to call a rose by any other name in an attempt to hide its thorns. But my brutality is necessary. Nothing more or less. It is only with teeth I can bite back choking fingers.”
“They’d not choke if you didn’t bite first.”
Immediately, a flare of temper seems to climb Madara’s spine like a flame along a trail of tinder. But he doesn’t reveal his hatred, only turning to Tobirama with a mock air of surprise. “I think by now there’s little point in which came first...only that it continues. And must end.”
“A continuation in which you are just as guilty,” the Senju retorts without pause.
“Well, perhaps a second opinion is just what we need, then. Let the true neutral decide what will become of us warmongering heathens. Don’t act as if you’ve never wielded a blade out of spite, Tobirama. In the eyes of the gods, we are all guilty.”
“And yet, some more than others. I look forward to them striking you down at last.”
“...we’ll see about that.”
“Your majesties…?”
At the timid cut-in, the regals turn to an attendant who wastes no time in bowing under their gazes. “The last of the expected parties have arrived, and...her holiness will see you now. Please, follow me.”
After no small number of distrustful glances, the gathered royals follow in the young woman’s wake. While the display of weakness irks Madara slightly, he also can’t blame her. Surely there’s been no assembly like this in their land before, nor for such a purpose. Being exposed to so much power at once must be quite the shock for any below their rank. Anyone in her shoes would be hard-pressed not to panic.
But in this land, all who serve their lady are absolute. Fear is nothing in the face of their devotion. While the priestess queen may serve the gods, it’s the people who in turn serve her. Long have rumors circulated of the valley people being so blindly loyal as to throw themselves on pikes for their monarch. She is the vessel through which the gods speak. To allow her to come to harm is to commit the ultimate blasphemy.
Already, he thinks of how this will be useful.
A short walk later, the lot of them are led into an expansive sitting room. “Her ladyship wishes for you all to remain here, and to attend an audience with her individually. Her impressions are to be unbiased by the others and their opinions, so...while any of you are within her chamber, the rest are kindly asked to wait patiently here.”
“Is this simply to be a contest of our most tactical liars, then?” Tobirama dares to ask, teeth gritting. “Are we not allowed to vet one another?”
“Within each of you is inherent bias depending on friends or foes,” the little servant in turn refutes, and Madara can’t help a lift of his brow as she stares the king down. “Her ladyship, in line with our lands, wishes to remain neutral. The gods will guide her. Mortal opinions can never be pure.”
The Senju’s lip lifts in a snarl, but before he can refute, Mei steps in. “Please tell your ladyship we will be patient and obliging. We all wish to avoid war. If this is what it takes, so be it. The rest of us won’t let temper lead us astray.”
For that, she’s given a venomous look...but other leaders murmur in agreement, and Tobirama begrudgingly concedes.
Wordlessly, the woman nods, and turns into another room.
“...best make yourselves comfortable,” Mei then sniffs, finding herself a perch as others do the same.
Always pleased to see the Senju put in his place, Madara offers a hint of an appreciative smirk in her direction, lounging in a plush chair tucked in a corner. An elbow rests on its arm, chin braced along his knuckles.
A few minutes later, one of the monarchs is asked inside.
And so it begins.
“Have you need of anything, my lady?”
Pouring herself a goblet of water, Ryū gives the attendant a glance, and then a smile. “For now, no - thank you, dear. Twice over for bringing the others here. I trust they were obliging…?”
The tick of hesitation is telling. “M...mostly, my lady.”
“Tell me no more. We’ll see how their conduct fares. You may go.”
“Yes, my lady.”
Left to her own devices for a moment, the priestess draws a long, calming breath. Time to see if her plan will bear fruit...and not the sort to poison the starving masses. Another handmaid tends to the door, calling in each of the other monarchs to stand their trials.
Her interviews are simple, yet extensive. All manner of aspects of their rule - their platoons, their policies, their positions and their people - are peered into with the highest scrutiny. And all throughout, Ryū places her trust in a sense that has never failed her. One she remains convinced comes from the insight of the gods.
Never has she been lied to and the falsehood gone unnoticed.
It’s a feeling that follows her always. And with varying intensity, it reveals to her just who is willing to be truthful...and who thinks it wise to lie to the mouthpiece of the gods. None of the remarks are challenged until each conversation is over, the priestess calmly laying out her accusations. All rebuke and fluster and give flashes of temper, but she cannot be convinced otherwise.
As each monarch reemerges with varying degrees of disgruntlement, the rest clearly become wary.
And she saves the best for last.
King Madara, of the Uchiha.”
Realizing his position and having done his best to remain patient, the Uchiha takes to his feet and makes his way toward the side chamber. He’d suspected he’d be reserved for the tail end given his reputation, but it was worth seeing Tobirama come out with a clenched jaw and scarlet neck of temper.
Well worth it.
Approaching the door, he gives yet another mousey serf a glance. Does she employ no one but nervous handmaids? Putting the thought aside (it’s hardly of any use), he steps inside and gives the room a curious once-over.
It’s a simple study, lined with shelves of scrolls and tomes. At the rear is a stained glass window, out which he can see one of the falls. Behind a desk of solid wood sits his hostess, and another moment is taken to observe her.
Her dress, unlike that worn for her sermons, is simple: plain white fabric with light hints of gold embroidery. Prim and modest, she looks far more the role of a priestess than a queen. Likely intentional.
“Would you care for some water?”
“...I would,” he replies shortly, accepting a goblet she pours him. Once quenched, he offers, “I must admit, it’s been too long since I’ve visited the valley. I hope that bears no weight on my qualifications?”
“Your lands are far, and your people often troubled. I cannot fault you for remaining where you are needed most by those that follow you. Though they may reside here, the gods can hear us no matter how distant our call.”
“Hm…” He considers her thoughtfully. “...may I also be frank in my surprise at this...decision. But in the same breath, I’ll put forth I think it wise.”
A hint of surprise lifts her brows. “...do you?”
“Relying on the wills of others for your safety puts your fate in their hands. While the other nations were willing, for a time, to be considerate of you...it seems the time has come where they put their own interests over the gods.”
“...do you do the same?”
“I concern myself foremost with my people. Whatever I can do for them to better their lives, I will do. No questions asked. I am their sword, and their shield. For them I will weather any storm, and I will cut down any threat.” His chin declines. “...I know this land’s distaste for violence. But I won’t attempt to hide what I have done. The gods may choose to smite me for it, but I will not stand idle and allow my people to come to harm rather than take any measure to protect them. Until I come to my judgment day, it is my people I answer to. Not gods.”
To his honest surprise, her lips curl into a coy smile. “...I commend you for your honesty and your dedication,” she murmurs. “Many have attempted to conceal their actions, seeking to tilt my favor. But there’s no hiding truth from the gods.” A knee lifts to crest the other, the long skirt of her gown rustling quietly. “Do you recognize the weight of the lives you take to protect another?”
“Of course. Any other man breathes and dreams as those under my banner do. Any life lost - no matter what side of a line - is one that should be mourned. If I could snap my fingers and draw all under one crest so that such lines could not be crossed, no reason given to kill what could in fact be a brother because of one loyalty over another, then I would do so. But until then...I protect what is entrusted to me. Nothing more, nothing less.”
“And if those within the valley were to be taken under that banner?”
“Then they would receive every ounce of my dedication as those born beneath it. An alliance is a promise. And I keep my promises. So long as I drew breath, it would be drawn for them all.”
A long moment passes of her silent consideration before continuing with her interview. Further and further she needles him, digging into the psychology and methodology of his leadership. And at each inquiry, he answers honestly, bearing all and refusing to feel shame for it.
Not once does she feel him lie.
By now, the day has begun to slip into evening, and a small respite is taken to light the sconces in the study. “We’re nearly finished. A supper is being prepared for you all.”
“How long are we expected to remain? I have a standing army to return to.”
“A few days at best, if my expectations are met. While my impressions are mostly made and there’s likely little else to glean...I am not one to rush important decisions. But so too do I respect the time and obligations of you and the others. I beg your patience.”
“And you’ll have it. I’m simply curious. My brother maintains the ranks in my stead, and I trust his judgment.”
“I didn’t know you had a brother.”
“...I once had four,” Madara eventually replies after a small pause. “But life is brutal, and war the paramount. Now...we are the two left of five. He is my right hand. I rely on him heavily.”
“I see…” Ryū lets her chin rest in a hand. “I’m without siblings. My father is unknown to me, my mother long dead. While I consider every person within my lands to be my family, my flock...I realize it is not the same. I envy you, in a way.”
“I’m sure he would be delighted to have a sister.”
The rather obvious nudge snaps her eyes to him, expression unreadable. “...I have one last question for you.”
“And I will do my best to answer.”
Silvers stare at him, unblinking. “...my intentions, I’m sure, are plain. To resist destruction by a flood of new war, I intend to ally myself with one of the other nations. That alliance will grant me an army, and hopefully give pause to the others before they consider bringing battles here. However...I know that, beyond my lands, the webs of friends and foes are complicated, and ever-changing. Depending on my choice, prior brothers in arms may be forced to become enemies. So my question is this: have you any reason - any at all - to possibly falter should this position become yours? Would you ever hesitate in raising your swords and your shields to defend this valley, and the people in it?”
“No.”
The blunt reply earns a blink, especially as no hint of a lie bleeds through his tone. “...just that easily?”
“Just that easily.” Shifting his posture, Madara leans inward, expression completely unwavering. “My people have been betrayed more times than I could count. We’ve not held an alliance since I was a boy...perhaps even longer. For generations we have been marked as nothing more than war-hungry dogs. And while we will never back down from a fight...it is not what we want. We fight for one reason only: necessity. Survival. The world has turned its back on us, declared us untrustworthy and forever drunk on blood. So perhaps that is something you should consider, priestess.”
Watching him warily, Ryū nonetheless holds her ground as he approaches, shrinking the gap between them to a breath.
“...is this what you want to anchor in your harbor? A man called a monster, a killer? Someone willing to go to any length, no matter what ire it will earn him?”
“...that’s precisely what I want.”
...it’s his turn to be taken aback.
She stares up at him, just as calm. “...I am all out of options, Madara,” she murmurs, dropping all other pretense. “My people face annihilation. We are sheep circled on all sides by wolves. Which is why I don’t want just a wolf. I want someone with nothing to lose. Because that is exactly what I have become. I want someone who, when the inevitable comes, will fight with no holds barred. Someone the other wolves fear. Because that fear will be what keeps us safe until the swords swing.”
Eyes flickering over her face, he lingers a long moment before conceding back to his seat. “...I see. Surely you already knew, then, what you were really looking for. These interviews weren’t to find who you wanted...but to gauge the standings of what will be left.”
She gives a grave nod. “To know who will be possible allies, who can be swayed...and who will see my declaration as one of war.”
“I’ve already a fair idea of those,” he assures her.
“I did not...but now I do. Which leaves only one last formality.” Reclining in her seat, Ryū crosses a knee, hands folding atop her lap. “...will you accept my proposal of an arranged marriage, Madara of the Uchiha? And with it, accept the position of army general, and the duty of protecting my people, my lands, and the cradle of the gods?”
“Is ‘king’ not one of my titles?”
“You are the king of your people. I am the queen of mine. I am unsure how either will view the other. And we have never had a king before.” Her lips flicker into a smile. “...both sides will surely need to do their own...adjusting. You will have every right and privilege that comes with a marriage to my line. Just, I’m sure, as I will inherit those of one to yours.”
...she’s avoiding the answer directly, he muses, considering her carefully. She doesn’t want foreign influence over her people...I can understand. Especially given the vast cultural differences. Surely such details will be determinable later. For now...best we settle the basics. I can whittle at the rest as we go. Leaning back with a sigh, he replies, “...then yes. I accept.”
“...good. We can discuss the rest tomorrow. For now...we have a dinner to attend.”
“Nothing works up an appetite like politics.”
All righty, day three! And I'm officially out of buffered posts :'D BUT I'm determined to do more, so hopefully I'll have some time between now and...tomorrow to get something else done. But for now, THIS post! So this is for Phoenix, the mun behind @uchiha-madara, and is our ship between her Madara and my OC Ryū. We've had a verse with her in the founders era and a concept...somewhat similar to this? But this setting is a bit different, and with far different context, so...hopefully it was still interesting to read xD I haven't gotten to write this verse much yet so a lot of it was experimental. But overall I really like how it turned out, and hopefully Phoenix does too! I love the dynamic between these two...there's almost always drama and tension and hhhhh I live for it xD Anyway, I've got irl things to handle now, so I best skedaddle. But I'll do my best to be back tomorrow with another piece for another ship! Until then, thanks for reading!
