Coming home and taking off your coat doesn’t hold the same relief as it used to lately. The weight of the day stays with you, coiled up around your ribcage like a snake that squeezes incrementally tighter every time you think of it. Still, it’s nice to come home to the smell of basil and the sound of Remus’ music playing from the kitchen. 

You set your bag down, going to find your boyfriends but spotting a plate of brownies on the table. You slow looking at it, and Sirius meets you halfway. He kisses you hello and wraps you up in a hug. 

“I’m so happy you’re home,” he murmurs conspiratorially. “Remus’ knee is hurting him, but he won’t say and he won’t get out of the kitchen. I need you to divert him.” You hum your assent, and he chuckles at your distraction, kissing beside your ear. “How was your day, beautiful?” 

“Fine,” you say. “Are those brownies?” 

“Yeah, Rem made them. The kind with the dark chocolate you like. Now, a real answer, please. How was your day?” 

“Oh, it was…it was okay.” 

Your voice sounds hesitant and melancholy even to your own ears. Sirius coos, hugging you tighter. He strokes up and down your spine, encouraging you to relax into him. “M’sorry, lovebug.” 

You shrug him off when he starts to sway you gently, shoving down on the emotion that rises in your throat. 

“Don’t be sorry,” you say, offering him a little smile. “It was fine.” 

Still, Sirius looks sad. “Okay,” he says. “Why don’t you go put on something more comfortable, and I’ll make sure our lovely boy is ready for you when you come back.” 

You huff a laugh. “Is that code?” 

He grins wickedly. “It is if you want it to be, gorgeous. Go on.” He turns you by the shoulders towards your bedroom, giving you a pat to your bum. “Go. Remus,” he calls towards the kitchen, “our angel just told me she really wants a cuddle from you. Sounds like you should join her on the couch.” 

It surprises you when Remus actually is waiting for you when you get back. He’s stretching his knee out, foot propped on the coffee table, but he smiles when he sees you. 

“Hi,” you say, your own lips tilting as you sit beside him. “Did you make me brownies?” 

“Well, I’d like to have at least one.” He takes your face in hand, kissing you with a grin on his lips. “But they’re mostly for you, yeah.” 

“That was sweet of you.” You take his hand in yours. The pads of your fingers rove the lines of his palm. “Thank you, you didn’t have to.” 

“I wanted to,” he says simply. His gaze is warm as he watches you, so knowing you have to look away. 

“Did you leave Sirius in the kitchen?” He nods. “What’s he making?” 

“Pasta for dinner. It’s nearly done.” 

“I should help.” You start to get up, but Remus holds onto your hand. 

“He’s got it, sweetheart. I wouldn’t normally trust him in the kitchen, but even Sirius can boil water.” 

“I know, but—” You extricate your hand from his gently, making it up with a smile. “—you’ve been doing stuff in there all day. It’s my turn to help.” 

Remus calls after you. Sirius must hear, because he apprehends you as soon as you enter the kitchen, keeping you from going further. 

“What do you think you’re doing?” 

“Stop,” you laugh, pushing against his hands. “I want to help.” 

“No one has any faith in me,” Sirius complains. “Remus has already done the hard work of chopping the basil and everything. I’m perfectly capable of boiling water.” 

“That’s what I told her,” Remus defends himself from the living room. 

You look behind Sirius for something that needs doing, but the collection of prepared ingredients gives you pause. You know this recipe. It’s your favorite pasta, your comfort food. 

“Why am I cursed with beautiful, stubborn partners who won’t have a rest when they need one?” Sirius laments. Now that you’ve stopped resisting, he’s able to bully you out of the kitchen, back towards the living room. 

“My knee doesn’t hurt,” you argue. 

He levels you with a look. “No. But that’s not the only thing that could cause someone to need a rest, is it?” 

You frown at him. The snake in your ribcage gives a malicious squeeze. “I’m fine. I don’t need to be coddled.” 

Sirius’ expression softens. “Sweetheart…” 

“No one is coddling you, lovely,” says Remus. “You’re going through a lot right now, and maybe you are fine, but it’s okay if you’re not, isn’t it?” He gives you a significant look. You press your lips together. “Either way, we only want to make things easier for you.” 

“I appreciate it,” you say, voice growing softer, “but I don’t need you to. I can manage it myself.” 

“Hey, who said you couldn’t?” Sirius asks. His eyebrows are bunched together, imploring. “You are managing it, gorgeous, and you’re doing a killer job. Really, it’s impressive, but we—” 

“We can still be there for you at the same time,” Remus finishes. 

You waver. Some of the playfulness comes back to Sirius’ expression. He cocks a brow at you. 

“So,” he drawls, “if you can handle all that by your lonesome, I don’t want to hear any more complaints about me boiling water without supervision. Got it?” 

You crack a grin. He mirrors it, giving you a shove so that you fall back onto the couch. 

“Good,” he says, turning around and starting back for the kitchen. “Take a rest, you freaks. Let me handle dinner for once.” 

“There’s a reason that doesn’t happen often,” Remus murmurs, drawing you into his side. He presses a kiss, soft and warm, to the bridge of your nose. “Are you going to be okay if your favorite pasta is al dente, lovely?” 

You laugh quietly, and he smiles for hearing it. “Yeah, I think I’ll live.” 

“Good. Because I’m afraid it’s all but guaranteed.”

Random Wolfstar Headcannons i just came up with cause im bored

Sirius hates reading, but Remus leaves little notes inside his favorite novels. Things like: "You looked unfairly good at breakfast. Stop it." or "Padfoot, stop leaving your socks everywhere. Love, Moony." Sirius keeps every single one, even the nagging ones.

Remus taps his fingers in Morse code under the table to communicate with Sirius. Mostly things like: "You’re being reckless, shut up." or "I love you, you idiot." Sirius, of course, ignores the first one and grins at the second.

When they fight, it’s bad—because neither will back down. But Remus has a secret weapon: the Disappointed Sigh™. Sirius can resist yelling, storming out, even crying—but the sigh breaks him every time.

Remus brings home a grumpy Kneazle named "Professor Whiskers." Sirius insists on dressing it in little leather jackets. The cat hates Sirius but tolerates Remus, which Sirius takes as a personal betrayal.

Sirius writes Remus letters during Summer Break (And they’re ridiculous) .They’re full of dramatic nonsense: "The sun is blinding without you here, Moony. I’m wasting away." Remus writes back in sarcastic academic prose: "Dear Sirius, your histrionics are noted. Please hydrate." (James intercepts one once and gags.)

Sirius is Obsessed with Remus’ Scars. He traces them with his fingers when he thinks Remus is asleep. Kisses them after full moons like it’ll "make them better." Remus pretends not to notice (but his heart is in his throat).

They Have a Stupid Fight Over Chocolate. Sirius eats the last piece of Remus’ emergency chocolate stash. Remus gives him the silent treatment for three days. Sirius replaces it with a giant Honeydukes hamper and a dramatic apology note.

Remus is the Worst Liar (Except When It Comes to Sirius). Can’t lie to save his life… unless it’s covering for Sirius. "No, Professor, I have no idea who set the Slytherin robes on fire. Must’ve been a mysterious draft." (He doesn’t even blink.)

They Both Cry at Their Wedding (But Sirius is Louder About It). Remus tears up silently; Sirius is sobbing into James’ shoulder before the vows even start. "Moony, you’re so beautiful—" [ugly crying] (Remus has to kiss him just to shut him up.)

How I added "instant translation" to the non-english text on my fic: a very easy 3 step guide

Hello!

I recently posted a Wolfstar fanfic called Instance of Happenstance and received a lot of compliments on a small piece of code I used. Both @marigold-hills and @leavesthatarebrown suggested I share how I did it, so here I am, finally explaining it in a Tumblr post!

Before diving into the details, I want to clarify that I didn't write this code myself.

Initially, I tried following this tutorial, but I stumbled upon a better solution in the comments of that post. The code on the tutorial itself does work, but a) it's harder to use and b) it doesn't work as well if you're planing to have multiple paragraphs that you need to show the translation on the same fic.

The solution someone presented on the comments, however, is very simple and easy to use for as many paragraphs as you need, but the explanation there wasn’t too clear, so I decided to expand on it to make it easier for others to implement.

What Does This Code Do?

This code adds an interactive feature to your fanfic, allowing readers to hover over a specific paragraph (or tap on it if they’re on mobile) to instantly change the text to something else — also set by you.

While this can be used for various purposes, I think it's particularly useful to display instant translations of non-English dialogue/text directly in the story. The code offers a much smoother alternative to the clunky “see end notes for translation” thing—which, let's be honest, can be a pain for readers, especially in long chapters.

For example, in instance of happenstance, Sirius discovers an old journal written entirely in French. I wanted to maintain the sense of mystery and intrigue that would be lost if I simply said the journal was in French, but wrote the text in English.

This solution let me keep the best of both worlds—retaining the authenticity and the immersion of the French, while still making the story easy to follow for the readers.

Now, I know this sounds complicated, but I assure you, it's not!

Down bellow is a quick, 3 steps tutorial on how to do it. I hope this is helpful! (:

(I'm doing this on the computer, if you're doing it on mobile, the layout of the website might be different from my printscreens)

Step 1 - Create The Work Skin

I'm gonna go right to the point here, but if you want to know about Work Skins in detail, I suggest this Ao3 Article.

On your Ao3 Dashboard, click on the fourth link on the sidebar, which is "Skins".

Then, on the page that opens up, click on "My Work Skins"

Then, on the top of the page, select "Create Work Skin"

Now, you'll see the form to create your skin, which looks like this:

Leave the "Type" as "Work Skin". On the Title, you can give any name you want to your skin, but I suggest you choose the same title as your fic or something like "instant translation", so you'll know what it's about later.

You don't have to worry about any of the other fields, except for the CSS one, where you should copy and paste exactly what I'll put bellow:

So, now, you'll have something like this...

... and you just have to click "save" on the bottom of the page, and this step is done.

Step 2 - Apply the Skin you created to your fic

For a new work, click on "New Work" as usual. If it's a fic you're already posting, you can add this as well, just click the "Edit" button.

Now, on the form of your fic, on the "Associations" tab, right under the menu where you select the language of your fic, you'll see a "select a work skin" option.

On this field, you should select the workskin you just created on the previous step, searching by the name you gave it on the "Title" field.

Step 3 - Insert the text

The code we're gonna use is this one:

<p class="change_on_hover"> <span class="off"> paragraph in foreing language </span> <span class="on"> paragraph in english </span> </p>

If you have no idea what this means, hold my hand, we're gonna get through it together!

First, copy your fic’s text into the AO3 text box as you normally would. Then, switch the text box to HTML mode so you can see the underlying code.

Now, scroll down until you find the paragraph you want to translate. After pasting, it will likely look something like this:

Note how each paragraph in HTML starts with <p> and ends with </p>. These tags indicate where a paragraph begins and ends.

Our goal is to modify that first <p> tag so it tells the browser, “Hey, this paragraph is different from those other ones. It should change when hovered over or clicked.”

To do this, we’ll change <p> to <p class="change_on_hover">. This marks the paragraph as special—one that should switch text when interacted with.

Now note how instead of having a single paragraph, we need two versions of the text:

In blue, the original (non-English) text, which will be shown by default.

In red, the translated (English) text, which will appear when the reader hovers over or clicks on it.

For the original text, wrap it inside a <span class="off"> tag, ending with </span> like this:

<span class="off"> insert here the whole text of the paragraph in the foreign language </span>

For the translated text, wrap it inside a <span class="on"> tag, also ending with </span>. This will replace the original text when hovered over or clicked:

<span class="off"> insert here the whole text of the paragraph in english </span>

And don't forget to end the whole thing again with </p>

Again, here's how it looks on my fic:

With the paragraphs that come before and after the translated text, just leave them as they are. They should still start with <p> and end with </p>. No changes needed!

You can use this method for as many paragraphs as you want, whether in the same chapter or across different chapters. As long as the Work Skin is active, the effect will work seamlessly throughout your fic.

How do Sparkclaw and Clearstorm feel about Wolfstar now? Would they still try to tease her if they were to meet her again?

I love these two, they don’t show up much in the story (yet) but they’re my fav lil background characters. They’re the classic twin coded bottom-tier bully characters you’d find in any kids show, think the twins from LPS or Veneer and Velvet or Glitz and Glam.

So Clearstorm is the more catty of the two, he kinda hates that Wolfstar is doing better than him but it’s more so the attention she gets. He was also trained by Greyclaw so he had to hear about how much his mentor missed his little sister etc. he thinks she’s over rated and boring. It’s a surface level amount of disdain, I wouldn’t call it hate, it could be any cat that he feels this way towards, not specifically Wolf. He really just loves to bitch and talk shit about someone, and talking trash about Wolf is always gonna make Spark feel better.

Sparkclaw however, oh she hates Wolf, it’s one of those deep seated insecurities. She’s envied Wolf for a long time, she doesn’t think she deserves any of the good that she has. She thinks Wolf’s lineage (which is distantly connected to the founder Duskstar) is wasted on her, she was angry that she didn’t get Jaggedstar as a mentor. Even after Wolf left she tried to switch but was denied. Sparkclaw has a thick layer of bravado, very few see just how much self hatred she has that she then projects onto others. She’s a talented cat and a good warrior, if she could learn to control her temper she’d be deputy one day. Her anger and impulses are self limiting her. Her mentor was Stoatfang (one of Jaggedstar’s closer friends), so she learned to bite her tongue a bit when it came to gatherings since Wolf is a leader now, but when her and Clear are alone? It’s non stop shit talking and gossip.

Together the pair is very gossipy and snarky, it’s mostly harmless and they aim it at the right cats, but they’re walking a thin line with this behavior. It may come back to bite them in the ass. A lot of their own clan thinks they’re dramatic and gossips. They’re not a couple, more like siblings but I could see them co-parenting or siring if one of them really wanted kits.

(What’s crazy is Sparkclaw and Mallowstripe are cousins and are more direct descendants of the second Duskclan leader Scorchstar. She has nothing to be jealous of)

My toxic trait is whenever I see someone saying that anything is (insert any mlm ship) coded, I will immediately counter with a wlw ship instead. ESPECIALLY if it’s a straight or wlw couple they’re being compared too. Like it’s not even bc I disagree or don’t like the ship it just subconsciously pisses me off and I need to bring girls back into the picture.

Conor starts a band to impress a girl, there is a cool older brother, costumes, a lot of music references and a severe catholic school. if you liked the cadence of part-time poets you will like this one, it’s less angsty but the vibe is here (dublin version instead of london). the band is very fun and eamon is cute and loves rabbits.

wolfstar vibe, very angsty but beautiful beautiful story. the character gives huge wolfstar vibe and their relationship too. it’s one of my favorite movie, it’s so beautiful, it’s shot on 16mm film so ot feels very authentic and it takes place in france, on the seaside in normandy during summer. alex meets david who has a motorbike and always got a comb on him for his hair. i love it so so much, if you love to read wolfstar angst you will love this one.

it’s a sitcom about correy and him growing up with his best friend shawn, his girlfriend topanga and his family. correy and shawn’s friendship is very prongsfoot coded : correy as james (and topanga is very lily coded and i feel like their relationship kinda feels like jilly) and shawn is sirius (he wears a leather jacket and flirt with every girl he sees). if you love prongsfoot dynamic (platonic but lowkey gay in a bestie way bc they’re also like brothers)

20. Eva and Celeste from It Goes Like This by Miel Moreland - I highly recommend this book it’s abt a queer sapphic band who get broken up and now they come back together to perform one last time. The main couple, Eva and Celeste have such a beautiful story I don’t want to spoil anything

21. Teo and Aurelio from The Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas - they got together too soon in the second book in my (very very biased towards excruciating slow burns) opinion but I loved them in the first book

22. Kit and Theo from The Pairing by Casey McQuiston - the fact that we have two Kits and two Teo/Theos on this list but in different ships (also two Wills) is kinda funny. I really loved their story and I want a love that’s so profound but also so fun like theirs.

there were so many scenes that just made me feel like i was reading a wolfstar fanfic. the way marshall listens to gary and tries to help him achieve his dreams, even though he doesn’t have many concrete ambitions of his own, and the way gary protects and comforts marshall lee screams wolfstar. additionally, the archetypes marshall and gary fall into are very similar to the archetypes that sirius and remus fall into, which consequently creates a similar relationship dynamic.

tldr: marshall lee and gary prince are a wolfstar variant because they’re literally AUs of each other.

Stoatfang! I remember her, she looked tense in the update when Wolfstar wanted to see Jaggedstar. Did she know about the attack form Heavybadger? What are her opinions on Thornstrike now?

We’re gonna learn more about the aftermath of the patrol in the next update, but Stoatfang is not a fan of Thornstrike and hasn’t been for a long time. She finds his loyalty to himself before his clan reprehensible and thinks he shouldn’t be deputy.

She’s always been a serious and focused warrior, it’s why Jagged likes her, but shes very honorable and loyal to Duskclan not just her friend. She was also Sparkclaw’s mentor and has a lot of respect as a code keeper. She’s a very good fighter despite her size, but Heavy is a care taker so she was pretty worried when they returned from a regular patrol all beat up. Care takers do fight and hunt like other warriors, but they’re not usually first pick for battle patrols.

Fun fact she’s aro/ace! She did still have a litter bc it’s kinda expected for skilled warriors to increase the clan’s numbers but she doesn’t want a mate or romance. She’s got mousefur vibes for sure.

She will feature prominently in the next update and we’ll see some more new faces too!

Funny, it’s like 1am and about 30 minutes ago I was listening to this song. And it just hit me that it’s SO Wolfstar coded!

So i wrote a thing :) I took a lot of the lines in the song, in order, and wrote this fic about Remus reminiscing over his time with Sirius now he knows he’s not the traitor.

I have no idea if the song is obvious, I tried to make it not? Or maybe this is pretty hard and i’m just tired?

Anyway I challenge you to see if you can figure out what the song is before you get to the end.

Reminiscing hurts Remus sometimes. Thinking back, he always just seems to run out of energy. He ran out of energy to fight the wolf his whole life. He even ran out of energy to fight for Sirius.

He should’ve known.

Back in fifth year, in Remus’ dumb vintage tee that looked so much better on Sirius than him, and high heels stolen from Marlene, balanced precariously on the Hogwarts paths ugly cobblestone, Sirius said that Lily gave him the courage to wear what he wanted.

He said he really hoped Lily would marry James. He wanted her as a sister in law.

Remus didn’t know much then. But he knew Sirius.

And when Sirius wore a ridiculous fake smile to a “family” event of murders in sequins, and then snuck out to smother on black lipstick and run to a muggle concert, Remus knew he’d leave that life soon. 

And the first night he agreed to meet Remus in muggle London, summer of fifth year, Sirius pulled Remus out under a streetlight, already drunk. He danced in his new Levi’s and pulled Remus closer with a hand from under his sweater, hellbent on kissing all his problems away.

That year wasn’t easy. He watched as his friends decided what they’d do after Hogwarts, knowing he could never have that many options. James brought up some war. That was the first time Remus ever heard of it. 

And when he felt useless, like old clothes rotting away under a breaking bed, Sirius always lifted him back up. 

But then it all broke. The first time things shifted between them.

Because it was then that Snape found out. And Sirius broke it all for the first time. Sirius tried to get Remus back. But he got so caught up chasing others who were mad at his actions he fell through when it came to the person who meant the most to him. 

And in a heart wrenching way, it’s funny really. How they all just assumed Remus didn’t know what this meant. They never truly accepted him. But he knew that now. And he’s be proved right years later when they’re all sure he’s the traitor. 

And yet Sirius and Remus made up. Played hide and seek with a magic map and crazy cloak over holidays. The moon trapped Remus at Hogwarts and Sirius couldn’t go home. So they spent their wasted time together. 

They went out again for the first time after that. And Sirius promised he’d always give every weekend of his life to spend Remus if he’d just believe that Sirius will never get bored or tired or fed up with him. 

But Remus will never forget the small moments. The rush of knowing that at least once in these lifetimes, Sirius would pick him. Even if it’d hurt. 

No matter how many times he felt old or useless, Sirius somehow loved it all. Always said Remus was his favourite. 

And no matter how many times Sirius dragged Remus on motorbike rides to downtown bars, he was always Remus’ favourite as well. 

Back in second year, when Sirius got bored, Remus let him doodled on his arm with a muggle pen he brought from home. It slowly became habit.

And quickly, after every full moon, it became a trend. Sirius would draw beautiful stars all around Remus’s newer scars. Once they were healed of course. Sirius said the stars were proof that he was always there.

When Sirius begun to suspect Remus was the mole, it all came crashing down. 

Remus waited for Sirius to leave. He never did. He stayed, as if waiting for a knife to be driven into his back.

As if he could never voluntarily leave Remus.

He drew stars just a few days before it all. Before they died. 

Remus ripped his face apart that moon. Bleeding.

Sirius didn’t see it until twelve years later. 

And now he’s here, he’s home. 

He’s doodling on the scars again but Remus won’t let Sirius near that one. Remus deserves that one. For ever believing Sirius would be the reason for James and Lily’s murder. 

But Remus knows despite it all, Sirius wants so bad to just trace that scar. To truly know him again. 

In the end, they don’t get time for that. But Remus doesn’t know that yet.

And last years Remus would be shocked he even successfully got on that train to Hogwarts that was scarred with bloodstains. Despite always knowing in his heart it wasn’t over, he wasn’t ready for it.

In another universe, maybe he could’ve changed the ending. 

It’s funny how Dumbledore thought he knew nothing. 

But Remus knew what mattered. 

Because Sirius lingered in all the spaces he used to be like a permanent tattoo he cannot erase. 

He stayed in every dream, every broken and screaming and begging version of what if. 

He smelt Sirius in every cigarette. That’s actually why he quit. 

Because honestly? Remus knew it all when he was young.

He knew Sirius would devastate him. He knew he’d curse him until he ran out of energy. He knew every shadow caught in the corner of Remus’ eye would always be Sirius. 

He knew he’d see him again. Remus somehow always knows when the last moment is the last moment. 

Sirius felt like someone who’d sort of always come back. As he has now.

And no matter how long he’s gone, Sirius always manages to take Remus’ battered and broken flaws and call him worthy. 

Like an old cardigan left under somebody’s bed, finally put on and called a favourite. 

(Okay if you don’t know the song by now i’m ashamed with you. Also if I wake up in the morning, read this and realise it makes no sense, I apologise for my writing failures)
