Ford v Ferrari | 2019
'Arguably the most memorable collaboration between Miles and Shelby, the Ford GT40 is an icon in its own class. Miles and Shelby worked tirelessly together to perfect the GT40’s design and capabilities. Their masterpiece led to the historic victory at the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, where they defeated Ferrari, surreptitiously dethroning his five-year victory streak.'

Woke up to the news of the cancellation this morning and have spent the day trying to swallow it. I was so looking forward to seeing our girls again and have my fingers crossed that we can see another miracle.
But for now, I offer the gretson playlist I made last year. It follows the spiritual beats of their story, circling themes of flight, making a mark, and finding your way home.
--
Seven - Sleeping At Last So I look to the future, and I book another fight / When everything feels heavy, I’ve learned to travel light
More to Give - Isabel Pless I keep burning my own bridge whether I lose or win / I’ll always wish I had more to give
if i were a friend - BLU EYES If I wasn't in my head / I could help me settle down / Make all of this make sense / Cuz it doesn't right now
Why Am I Like This? - Orla Gartland Oh, it's like I'm looking down from the ceiling above / Never in the moment, never giving enough
One - Sleeping At Last The list goes on forever / Of all the ways I could be better, in my mind / As if I could earn God's favor given time / Or at least congratulations
Twenty Something - Bre Kennedy Had my first kiss at the corner bar / Fell in love with a stranger in the dark
Everything Has Changed - Alex G, Jon D 'Cause all I know is we said, "Hello" / And your eyes look like comin' home / All I know is a simple name / And everything has changed
Apple Pie - Lizzy McAlpine I found you under an April sky / And you feel like / City life, apple pie baked just right / Home is wherever you are tonight
Ordinary Love - Nick Wilson Just for once / I want ordinary, ordinary love / No smoking gun
Maybe - Duce Williams Maybe, we should hope against the odds / Maybe, fate will place our cause
if i built my home from paper - Lexie Carroll Cause I may be getting older / But maybe I'm still scared / It's a trouble living in this world / But it's home when you are there
Magnificent - Oh Wonder In the sticky summer heat, I got grass stains on me knees / And I'm infinite / Couple lovers running free, eyes are looking straight at me / And I'm into it
hate to be lame - Lizzy McAlpine, FINNEAS If I love him, if I need him / Maybe that will make him stay / If I lie, will I still feel this way?
counting houses - Luz Let them cast their doubt / We can live without /All their thoughts around
If I Didn’t Love You - Ben Abraham How do you do it? You've got me in it and I can't explain / How you turn me with the fury of a hurricane
Walk Above the City - The Paper Kites, MARO Flowers underneath us now / Towers underneath us now / We walk above the city / You and I
Tonight (I Wish I Was Your Boy) - The 1975 And told her, "Some things have their time / How can I be yours if you're not mine?"
Talking to Myself (Stripped) - Gatlin What if I play pretend / You're holding me again / We're laughing in my head
Another Round - Elina Time always froze when I pulled you close / And we were fine, mhmm / I swear I would give anything for another round
please - Chelsea Cutler, Jeremy Zucker Please don't leave me here / I don't know where my heart is
Leave Your Lover - Sam Smith You'll never know the endless nights, the rhyming of the rain /Or how it feels to fall behind and watch you call his name

I Found You - Kina Grannis, Imaginary Future A sudden gust of wind /From nowhere, we begin / It's like I dreamed you up while I was sleeping
Last Time - Adam Melchor I'm takin' a picture of this in the back of my mind / ‘Cause every time I go I'm scared it's gonna be the last time

I made a Fancast for a Batman TV series in the 80s a while ago, but I only revisited it yesterday. It's almost fully complete (at least, I've filled nearly all the roles I added). Let me list them:
Batman: Pierce Brosnan
Robin I (Dick Grayson): maybe Matthew Broderick?
Robin II (Jason Todd): Not Sure Yet
Batgirl: Molly Ringwald
Alfred: Jon Pertwee
Commissioner Gordon: John Astin
Harvey Bullock: John Candy
Renee Montoya: Rachel Ticotin
Lucius Fox: Not Sure Yet
Leslie Thompkins: Betty White
Jack Ryder: Richard Belzer
Vicki Vale: Dana Delany
Jason Bard: Andrew McCarthy
Aunt Harriet: Doris Roberts or Rue McClanahan
Thomas & Martha Wayne: Adam West & Julie Newmar
The Joker: Willem Dafoe
The Penguin: Danny DeVito
The Riddler: Robin Williams
Catwoman: Mary Steenburgen
Two-Face: Not Sure Yet
Poison Ivy: Kathleen Turner
The Scarecrow: Christopher Lee
The Mad Hatter: Martin Short
Mr. Freeze: Patrick Stewart
Killer Croc: Not Sure Yet
Black Mask: Not Sure Yet
Rupert Thorne: Carroll O'Connor
Ra's Al Ghul: Ricardo Montalban
Talia Al Ghul: Demi Moore
I missed a few here, because the list was getting too long to put on one thing. But you get the picture. For all those I can't yet figure out, suggestions are currently open. I do desperately need help putting the rest of this together. I mean, I've only got 3-4 left. It'd be nice to say I'd completed a cast list (I usually never do). Here's the link if you want to help:

I wasn't that asker but I agreed hard on condensing the cast, so now I have to ask: how would you, exactly? who's getting cut in the king james version of ST
Ough, a good question. I'm really waiting to see how the story ends before I make any concrete judgements, just in case there's something coming that cements certain characters as Necessary.
However.
I'd condense Eddie and Jonathan. We already had a town freak whose family carries a bad/creepy reputation. The only thing Eddie seems to do atp is deliver subtext, and it's subtext that could be delivered by the Byers family given all the fucked up things that have happened in association with them. Make Jonathan the snooty artsy guy, we'd see even more where Will gets it from.
I'm waiting to see what happens with ST5+TFS before I make any final judgements, but I even feel like the Munsons in general were very accessory. We already have a down-and-out "no one believes me" parent who knew the Creels (Wayne) in Joyce, we already have an absentee deadbeat dad (Alan) in Lonnie, and we already have a "creepy" high school senior making money on the side for his family in Jonathan. Jon and Lonnie were both suspected of killing Will right away, with varying degrees of seriousness. It wouldn't be a stretch to have people pin the ST4 deaths on him. It's in keeping with the "psycho older brother toooootally killed his younger sibling" Creel thing, so why not put the rest of Eddie's Creel subext into Jonathan? It would also pull the Byers family back into the center of the supernatural drama. Maybe then I could believe that ST5 is actually going to be "Will's season" 😂
Call him Eddie Byers instead of Jonathan, too, if you're an Edward Creel truther. [insert long tangent about the hypothetical Eddie Byers paralleling Edward Creel/the older brother version and Will paralleling Henry Creel/the younger brother version here]
I would also have kept the Byers family in Indiana, but w/e. That's my personal bone to pick until they give me a better reason why all that had to happen in Cali/Nevada.
Moving on:
I'm waiting to see what they end up doing with Vicki, but unless she's really important in some way that couldn't be fulfilled by Nancy...I'd remove her and make ronance a thing instead. Again, though: waiting to see what they do with her. She just feels very accessory at the moment. Fingers crossed she'll become more relevant.
I'm also very much waiting for them to all be congregated in Hawkins again so that we don't have a small army of minor antagonists that we have to deal with :// I get why it had to be like that, but it was also...A lot.
Also, I would have nixed Dottie in ST2. Everyone else in the Kali arc served, tbh, but she annoyed me and her subtext could have been reistributed 🤷🏼 (I hope we return to the situation with Ray Carroll, though, even in a small way. Like. Pleasepleasepleaseplease)
#this is it for now. Just Eddie and Vicki.#Holly needs to prove herself too but she's spared from my ire currently#asks

LOST TRUMAN CAPOTE STORY PUBLISHED AFTER DISCOVERY IN NOTEBOOK| CNN
________
Shared by Jean Jean-Pierre
Richard, Dane, Jon and Rat:
One day, between 1966 (when I was a freshman at Brooklyn Prep and beginning to devour American literature) and 1969 (when we moved from Carroll Street), your Grandma Lorraine comes home from work and asks me if the name "Capote" - which she pronounced "Kapòt" - meant anything to me. Taken aback, I hesitated. She read the hesitation and said, "No, a writer, I think. I just saw his photo on a magazine cover at the subway kiosk."
"Oui, Maman," I told her, "he is well-known author. Why do you ask?"
"Because I know him. Spent several months sleeping in his Oloffson Hotel room."
And she proceeded to recount the story below:
Capote was sickly. So circa 1947-50, his doctor in USA recommended that he go down to Haiti to get a lot of sun, with a Haiti doctor contact of his US doctor to follow Capote and pursue the treatment.
Your Grandma Lorraine was doing private practice - better money than the General Hospital - and had developed a nice list of doctors for referrals.
One day, one of the doctors contacted her, and told her that he had a very good patient for her. Better still, he was an American who would pay well, and it would be for a good length of time. She would sleep in his room every night.
Sounded like a great gig, but to the young, unmarried Lorraine, there was one hitch: How could she be expected to sleep in the guy's hotel room?
The doctor chuckles, then says, "Miss Vaval, you know me well enough to know I would never draw you into a compromising situation. You will go with me to the hotel this very day, and once you've met him, you will agree with me that you have absolutely nothing to worry about."
Grandma took the job, took great care of Truman for a couple of months, made serious money, and despite neither party speaking the other's language, developed a sort of friendship with him.
And as the doctor had so well understood, Grandma never had a problem with the openly-gay Truman Capote.

Parallels
I was working on this post and saw these Willel parallels. I took a couple of screenshots, because I noticed something.
Here. Axel mentions schizofrenia as he touches his neck, like Will and Henry (more at the end of the post (*)

In psychiatry, the name Soteria stands for "an alternative low-drug milieu-therapeutic approach to acute schizophrenia".

Also, interesting tattoos, Axel.
Brain damaged. I've talked about this one. I think it's not a coincidence that we only get a close up of it during the police chase in 2x01, because later Axel wears this mask. Same mask at Melvald's, and it's also a parallel to how Brenner Senior looks when he comes back from Dimension X (in S3 Mike says that using too much power could damage El's brain)

I could be wrong, but that little tattoo on his cheekbone reminds me of the blood stain on Henry's cheeckbone. The one that keeps changing, from an X to a Y
And then there's the claw scratching Axel's skin. They're definitely hinting at something, here.

More parallels

In S3, Steve and Robin are the "twins", Dustin calls them Tweedledee and Tweedledum, characters in an English nursery rhyme

And in Through the looking glass, the sequel to Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. The man who fries Terry's brain is Ray Carroll.
In the TV show Ray is watching, a kid wakes up from a nightmare, hugs his dog and tells his father that he dreamt that his doctor was giving him his shot in his arm. Will being drugged in S2, yes, but the mention of the dog also makes me think about Chester and the vanishing scene.

In fact, El opens the door of Ray's house, like the Demogorgon opens the chain lock in S1.

Another interesting thing is that Ray Carroll did three tours in Vietnam as a MSC officer, so there's also a connection to Hopper (here). And speaking of drugs, Carroll and Alice in Wonderland,
in the 60s and 70s, Alice became a slang term for LSD
There are many references to rabbits and Alice in the show. Alice Creel says that their new house is like a dream. Her brother kills a rabbit, in S1 Jon says that his father forced him to shoot a rabbit. I could go on (and talk about the cigarettes), but here I want to focus on Hopper, Ray, El and Terry.
Ray Carroll->Vietnam->Hopper
Carroll->Alice in Wonderland->Alice->slang for LSD (Kali's powers and her nickname K are also connected to drugs/mind control)
two white rabbits in Jane's room
All the times someone mentions LSD or the word psychedelic, they're talking to Hopper
Powell in 1x03: "LSD mind control experiments"

In 1x06 Becky talks about LSD and psychedelics and then says that Hopper and Terry would've gotten along

Owens in 2x02: "These patterns here are really pretty. I like the design. It's almost psychedelic."

I doubt this is a random line. Look at the orange books behind Owens. In S4 Hopper says that Uncle Sam wanted him to fight in some jungle, and in Vietnam he was exposed to Agent Orange. Yeah, it's all connected to Will, El, Terry, Hopper and Joyce.
(*) There's so much in this shot. The fire and the car make me think about an accident (here, here and here). And Axel touching his neck while mentioning dream circles seems to hint at powers and timeloops
Later in the episode we actually see a burnt car and, imo, a hint at One. No. Ace-> Number One.

Why is the common fanon interpretation of BTAS Mad Hatter a soft uwu polite baby who throws cute tea parties. No hate but why can't there be more love for canon Jervis who's horrible and manipulative and ruthless but also likes Lewis Carroll.
Also why's his BTAS design shorter than Jon in fanon
#hes horrible and we should like him for that! hes a villain!#also HES TALL CANONICALLY IN BTAS! i think as tall or even taller than Batman#i get that many versions of Jon are tall but Jon is quite short in BTAS#btas#batman#senja autismposting#i like villains a lot but they dont need to be made into uwu babies for you to like them!#im a bit indifferent to jervis tbh i think hes neat but hes not among my fav rogues. i still think he deserves better from the fandom lol
